Welcome to my blog!
Tumblr media
Hello!! Welcome to murruspins :3!
This is a special interest blog, however it also kind of acts like a diary. I write down what I’m thinking or hyperfixating on, same goes with my regular interests! This blog will also have alot of alterhuman content, as it’s a big part of my identity!
Tumblr media
About the owner of this blog…
My name is Murruyu! I’m a transfem enby, and would prefer if you used they/it/xe on me aswell as fem + neutral terms! If you don’t respect my pronouns, I’ll simply block you, no biggie! 🤍
My special interests are mcyt (hermitcraft & life series specifically), horror, metal music and bio! When I say bio and horror, I mean all aspects. I love horror games, movies, shows, etc. And I love all biology paths/subtypes! (Eg: wildlife bio, botany, palaeontology, and more!)
I’m the host of a minor bodied DID system, however I won’t get into that much on this blog, as this is my personal blog! However, I will talk about our physical disabilities because they impact my everyday life, and this is a diary blog after all! [I will mainly talk about my EDS and CFS]
As I said before.. I am an alterhuman! More specifically, here is a link to all my kintypes!
This list may be updated/edited in the future, but for now, these are all of my (known) kintypes! Some stronger than others. More specifically, I have a super strong connection to the feline clade, more so than my other kintypes. Obviously, due to being alterhuman, I do not identify as human. I instead identify as my kintypes, I may post about my alter-humanity frequently 🫶
I am ALWAYS looking for moots/friends!! Click here to see my interests + adult mutuals are okay, just no dms!
Tumblr media
DNI/BYI
DNI:
• People who hate on ANY of my special interests. No offence, but you’re not welcome here, this is my safe space! [PS: being afraid of horror or animals is not the same as hating on them, if you have a phobia of something that’s completely fine! Just don’t insult my spintrest on my page 🤍]
• Anti alterhuman, Anti Age regression, Anti pet regression
• Endogenic systems, Profic/Proship/Darkship/anything that fits into that category.
• FURBY BLOGS!!!!! Furby centred blogs/Blogs with furbys as their theme/pfp dni. Moots r okay but please add a warning whenever you post them 😭🫶. I’m terrified of those little things.
BYI:
• I’m autistic, I need tonetags! If you’re going to ask anything, I’d appreciate you using tonetags so I can understand you better! :3
• Adults may not ask to be my friends, No offence, just for boundary and comfort reasons, I am a minor after all. Mutuals are fine!
• I generally do not engage in discourse, if that’s something you’d like to know before following! This blog is focused on being diary, alterhuman and interest themed!!
• This is my main blog! If I’m active, it’s probably here. But my side blogs are…
> @liostims , my stim blog
> @lovesicksyndicate , our sys blog
> @faunafeature , my animal info dump blog
> @kiyoscove , my agere blog
> @murrupurrs , my petre blog
… Please keep in mind many of these blogs may be inactive, as this is my main!

🐈 , song of the day! ask and I’ll give you a song that’s been stuck in my mind recently, or just a random song off my playlist!
🐍 , daily check in! I’ll give you a small rant about my day so far, and tell you how I’ve been recently! (I’ll try to keep it positive.)
"(Therian/biology/metal/anything related to my blog) culture is…" asks are also always appreciated!! I love seeing them, and I love interacting with people!!

I thought Johnny Yong Bosch would be great as Dearka, given his voice acting as Firion in Dissidia Final Fantasy, but after reading posts on your blog on how terrible the new English dub is, I was like "On second thought, I'll just stick to the original English and Japanese dub."
EDIT: Fun fact, Tumblr mobile cut 90 per cent of this off so I’m editing the below a bit because I got all heated over “Bosch would be great as Dearka.”
//It's hard to beat Brad Swaile - he does these little inflections and effort noises with his voice that few other voice actors have mastered that just take his characters to a whole new level in terms of believability, so no one will ever replace him as Dearka for me.
In all due honesty, they could have done worse then Johnny Yong Bosch in the role of Dearka. I don’t love him in everything, but I can see where they might think he’d be good in the role, and he seems to be the de-facto “replacement” for Brad Swaile’s voice whenever his characters get re-dubbed in the U.S.
My main issue is I find he isn't great at changing his voice to make it believable coming out of all the characters he does. He was great as Ichigo back in the golden age of dubbing where anime wasn't approached like kids cartoons (sans Castlevania. I can't get over just how good that series is voice-acting wise, ESPECIALLY from on-camera actors), but Lelouch? His voice was really jarring coming out of that character. I felt he was too deep or speaking too much like an adult for a teenager on the show, and idk. It just didn't fit. Same with Dearka. From what I've seen, he's just a tad (ha) too deep to make him believable as 16/17 year-old - and I live with a couple. Conversely, he's not deep ENOUGH for his Iron Blooded Orphans character.
This isn't necessarily his fault. I strongly believe it's casting directors and directors.
Again, what I’m finding with L.A.-based voice actors is they do a stellar job with video games - like Dissidia, Persona 5 etc. - , but when it comes to anime, they really struggle to get believability down and never seem to fit their roles, and I think it’s the above that’s the cause.
The really high-end voice directors and casting directors are placed on the video game projects because they need to have consistency often throughout multiple video games, and the games reach a larger audience. What seems to happen is that with anime they just throw whoever puts their hand up on to direct, and don’t care about those projects because they hit a smaller market.
The director of the Gundam SEED reflub/re-dub, Carrie Keranen, should NOT have been given a project of this magnitude to be a rookie on - it was her debut as a director - because she's already proven in the clips released that she doesn't have a clue what she's doing.
Having met her personally, I can say she doesn’t even know much about her own characters. Went to a Tales panel with her once and she spent the whole time playing a trivia game with people that attended giving out timbits for prizes as if timbits are a luxury to Canadians.
The people cast in all of these roles, save maybe Yzak (Daman Mills from what I've heard seems to be the only one trying, and he's come pretty close to sitting where Michael Adamthwaite sat with him pitch-wise. He came up short with the blood-curdling scream when he gets injured by Strike, but then Michael has on-camera creds and Daman is strictly voice, but I digress), don't sound right at all. Murrue and Natarle are too high-pitched (Japanese women generally speak at a higher pitch than North American women, so in Japanese, the high pitch voices are believable as military, in English, the high-pitched voices for military don't work, and I come from a HUGE line of Military people, and there's not a woman that speaks that high). Miriallia sounds like a 10-year-old boy, Waltfeld sounds like a drunk perv, Mu sounds like a seedy creep instead of the Han Solo type, Andrew Neumann also sounds like he's ready to grope the next woman he sees, Cagalli speaks too cool and too modern - and too fast. Flay sounds too...mature. Kira sounds shaky and high pitched, like they've stripped him of all his subtle 'tude. And Athrun is like....gruff. He's straight-up a no and hard pass.
Not to mention the dialogue and bastardization of the English language, and the flagrant dismissal of the original English dub by the new people involved. I will never get over "Dirka" Elsman. Ever. And Johnny Yong Bosch clearly didn't fight for the correct pronunciation...

I went through a really big phase in High School where that’s all I was into but then it just kinda peetred out once I hit college (fun fact this blog was originally created as a Sting Oakley from Gundam Seed Destiny RP blog but once the RP community surrounding GSD died down it transitioned in to more of a personal blog)

I was tagged by @breakfast-at-bateses!!
Favourite colour/s: Pink, purple, red
Top 3 Ships:
1. Anna x Bates (Downton Abbey): my OTP of OTPs, the loves of my life, the ultimate relationship goals.
Picking the next two are hard for me, because for me, I always have a pairing that is my One True Pairing and ships that do slay me but juuuust not quite as much. (also is this Of All Time or At the Moment? - lets one of each for the other two!)
2. Murrue x Mwu (Gundam SEED): going with Of All Time, and the 40th Anniversary of Gundam, though is my favorite Gundam and anime pairing.
3. Louisa x Spiros (The Durrells): and at the moment, a pairing that’s probably going to end horribly and break my heart into a million little pieces.
Last Song: "Light Me Up” by Gromee feat. Lukas Meijer. It’s Eurovision season and I was listening to a mix I made last year ;)
Last Movie: In theaters, Captain Marvel!
Currently reading: The Poppy Girls, Margaret Dickinson. I read a lot of historical fiction, and a lot of ones that take place during WWI.

Insigne and Immobile Warming Up
Round 8 - October 5, 2018
Tumblr media
Insigne suggests going for burgers after the Sassuolo game, or maybe for panini? After his wonder strike he’s more than earned it. - Image courtesy of gazzetta.it
Lorenzo Insigne can’t stop scoring, even when he doesn’t start. The diminutive Neapolitan came off the bench to kill off Sassuolo with a sensational top corner curler. Last time he was this prolific was when he was at Pescara under the tutelage of the pyrotechnic Zeman. His former Pescara strike partner, Ciro Immobile, was also on target with one of his trademark goals, nipping in at the far post for the winner at home to Fiorentina. Roberto Mancini will be pleased with abundant attacking options ahead of the do-or-die Nations League clash away at Poland.
For Fiorentina, Cristiano Biraghi put in a another workman-like performance and should reprise his role at left-back for Italy next week. Federico Chiesa did his best to try and put dive-gate behind him, while Benassi had a quieter game. Youngster Riccardo Sottil, son of former defender Andrea Sottil, was offered the last 10mins by coach Stefano Pioli.
Daniele Baselli was on the scoresheet in Torino’s more-laborious-than-expected win over Frosinone. Simone Zaza played well, while Andrea Belotti continues the search for his former self, the one that was able to take games by the scruff of the neck and score at a canter. Under 21 international, Vittorio Parigini, did quite well when coming on, but for Sirigu in goal this wasn’t one of his better showings.
In Cagliari’s 2-0 win over Bologna, Alessio Cragno followed up his strong showing last week with a clean sheet and a fine save on Dzemaili’s low drive. He’ll be hoping to again be called into Mancini’s keeper quartet. Filippo Romagna and Nicolo Barella were also excellent for the Isolani, with many calling for the latter to have a more prominent role for Italy. Riccardo Orsolini could do little to alter the result when he came on, only managing an effort from distance which sailed over the crossbar.
Azzurrini shot-stopper Simone Scuffet’s heroics weren’t enough to keep Juventus out; the champions running out 2-0 winners at the Dacia Arena. Rolando Mandragora unfortunately couldn’t do much against his former employers. Bonucci and Chiellini bossed and bullied any Udinese danger, while Bernardeschi was again lively when introduced from the bench.
Lorenzo Pellegrini seems to have a new impetus about him since his influential derby display. He provided the assist for Nzonzi in Roma’s win away at Empoli, as El Shaarawy assisted Edin Dzeko. Davide Santon was another impressive performer, while Cristante and Florenzi did okay to relieve teammates with their introduction from the bench.
Promising Alessandro Bastoni made his Parma debut and played well in the 30mins he was granted as a second-half sub. Young Genoa striker Andrea Favilli was brought on at half-time, but could do little to stop the home side’s defeat to Parma. Criscito was far from his best for the Grifoni. Atalanta were also beaten at home, as Audero kept another clean sheet in the Sampdoria goal, accompanied by some impressive saves. Gollini had some saves to match his counterpart, but not the clean sheet as Tonelli headed the winner for the Blucerchiati. Nicola Murru was also excellent in defence, playing his part in securing the 3 points.
Bonaventura made his mark in Milan’s 3-1 win over Chievo; before scoring with a deflected effort, the midfielder saw his daisy cutter brilliantly saved by Sorrentino and then watched as Depaoli miraculously blocked Calhanoglu’s follow up. Cutrone came on with just over 10mins to go but couldn’t make Milan’s score more emphatic. In goal, Donnarumma still goes in search of his first clean sheet of the season, but could do nothing to keep out Pellissier’s expert strike.
SPAL fought gallantly at home to Inter, but came away empty handed. Manuel Lazzari has been doing well to prove that he deserved his Italy cap at the last international break and this game was no exception. Andrea Petagna is still struggling to find the net with the regularity required for him to make the jump in quality. Inter disappointingly didn’t start with a single Italian, but introduced Gagliardini and Politano in the second half.

A self-publisher’s design journey
Thought you guys might be interested in the design journey it took to reach the final cover for The Scissors and the Sword, because it was anything but linear, and it might help some of you who are also looking into cover design.
To get started, I wasn’t a complete amateur at this. I actually have a background in design, having worked as a graphic designer in the past. However, my work was in an industrial capacity, not the entertainment or publishing industry, so although I know my way around the tools, I’m not the most artistically inclined person.
Taking the approach I guess most people would take, I started off thinking about the book’s inspirations and themes.
Tumblr media
One of the biggest inspirations for the World of Orochi was the world of anime, particularly some shows that I loved a number of years ago, such as Rurouni Kenshin and Inuyasha. I really wanted the cover to reflect this, if possible.
I pulled together a mood-board of covers and images that had elements I liked; compositions, logo styles, colour schemes; this ended up being hundreds of files in many different folders:
Tumblr media
... and from that, I settled on a few ideas. I really wanted Jessica front-and-centre, with Hikaru’s appearance being more enigmatic. I also wanted something in the backdrop which brought in both the London and fantasy elements. I also would’ve loved to get something which, in cover form, evoked something like the intro to Psychic Force, one of my favourite PS1 games with an anime feel:
youtube
So I went online, downloaded a bunch of images, and produced a rough idea for the composition. Quick note to say I don’t own any of these images; this was never meant to be a public thing - so I’ll keep this low-res:
Tumblr media
That’s a collage of about 8 images. The foreground stuff is obvious; Murrue Ramius would be Jessica, the facing-away character in the tabi boots would be Hikaru, but the background actually took some compositing to get the serpent to look as though it was coiled around Big Ben.
I went online to seek advice about this, both because I needed to find an artist to commission, and also to get some feedback on the general idea. The response I got was extremely negative; not because of the art (like I said, it was just a composition sketch) but the idea itself.
The main response I received was that this wouldn’t be workable because customers would expect the book to be a graphic novel, and be disappointed upon looking into it, even buying it. The overwhelming advice I received was to keep this sort of thing for promo materials, and not to use it for the cover. This seems obvious in retrospect, but part of me really wanted my anime tankobon style cover regardless, so it was a difficult idea of which to let go.
What do you guys think? Tag a comment on a reblog or reply if you want. Do you think I should’ve stuck with this? I do think about it sometimes. Still, I moved on.
The very first cover I produced was never meant to be final, but it looked like this:
Tumblr media
As the cover states, this was a “sample edition” which I produced for promotional reasons. At the time, I wasn’t completely sold on going with self-publishing, and was still shopping around to agents, some of whom requested more material before the eventual rejection. Only two copies still exist (as far as I’m aware), one in my possession and one in the hands of a beta reader.
After this, I started to explore the ideas that would lead onto the cover of the first run.
Tumblr media
This was where I eventually landed. I liked a few elements of this cover, such as the textures and clear text.
However, it had a few problems. Firstly, it lacks focus; I crammed so many elements in; crime, scissors, blood, characters, backdrops... It was busy.
Then it got rejected from Amazon, and later Google ads, because it features blood as a motif. Google reviewed it and said the implied “improvised weapon” of scissors was a problem for their service. I removed the blood, but that reduced the effectiveness of the cover, and I started to realise it was probably going to need to change.
The second came from an early reader. They bought it and said they enjoyed the book, but from the cover they had expected something of a horror-crime-thriller, as opposed to an urban fantasy. This was a much bigger problem; I walked down to my local Waterstones and looked through the shelves, and quickly saw how they could’ve reached this conclusion.
I realised I had to go back to the drawing board and have another try, making an effort to get the fantasy element front-and-centre. That led to these explorations:
Tumblr media
Now, all three of these are somewhat hideous. That’s kinda the point. I spent a couple of days just throwing work at the problem, not taking much care about the result, to see if any good ideas emerged. There were actually 20 or so variants of these ideas.
However, none of them resonated with me. I kinda felt as though they just had the same problem as the previous design, with a less polished appearance.
It was around this time I knew that I was going to need professional help. I went onto the Self-publishing subreddit and sought out a cover designer; as it happens, one was advertising at the time, and we got talking.
Jim, at Jelzoo.com, took the time to go through all of this with me, and to get an idea of what the book was about, and he suggested something I hadn’t considered much up until now: If the book is part of a series, the design must take into account that we would need to make covers for future books of this series in a similar style. This meant we needed ideas and concepts which would be preserved, along with elements that would be swapped in and out for each book.
He also helped me understand something that was totally beyond me at this point; obviously everybody judges a book by its cover, but a good image is not necessarily a good cover. Many books have covers which are not particularly good images; like you wouldn’t frame them and put them on your wall. Some readers, when confronted with a new book, are attracted by the cover, but the thought is that most are picking up on the visual language of covers; what they say by the imagery they use. These images imply genre, tone, style, authorial intent... And this is more important than commissioning an artist to paint you a fantastic image to put on your book. You need to speak to these sensibilities.
This was the process that led us to the cover that my readers will be more familiar with:
Tumblr media
I feel that Jim did a great job at the time, but it wasn’t until I actually wrote the sequel that I truly understood what he meant. He was able to preserve the core idea while bringing in the elements book 2 needed, which gave us this:
Tumblr media
... and right away, I could see how we could start to construct a brand around the covers; something which I hadn’t considered at the start.
So suffice to say, it was quite a journey! The above summarises several months of back-and-forths between Jim and I, so it was an incremental process, but the end result was worth the effortt! I hope this has been useful to you guys who are considering self-publishing.

His covers are designed by Jim, at Jelzoo.com.

nyt kuule. lehto/lammio ja rahikainen/riitaoja. :-))))
Nyt kuule!! Sitä Pahaa. Kiitos! Riitis/Rahikseen ehdin vastata täällä, mutta Vihaisia Poikia tulee nyt.
Who hogs the duvet - Lammio vohkii sen ja Lehto raastaa sen hyvin väkivaltaisesti takaisin. Who texts/rings to check how their day is going - Ei näistä kyllä kumpikaan. Lammio saattaa pistää silloin tällöin jotain. “Olisi nuo lumet voinut pihalta poiskin lapioida”. “Tuo maitoa, kun tulet”. “Siellä on liukasta, aja varovasti”.Who’s the most creative when it comes to gifts - No siis näistä se on Lammio, Lehto ei ole hyvä tällaisissa hommissa, eikä se ainakaan ihan alkuun jaksaisi Lammion tähden vaivautua. Who gets up first in the morning - Riippuu vähän niiden työaikatauluista ja muista. Lammiolla on hyvin säännöllinen ja kurinalainen heräämisrytmi, kun taas Lehto nukkuu mahdollisimman pitkään, kun se vain on mahdollista. Who suggests new things in bed - (haron hiuksiani ja mietin korrektia tapaa ilmaista ensimmäinen päähän tullut ruma ajatus) Jos jompikumpi näistä jotain uutta ehdottaisi, se olisi Lammio. Lehto on todella, todella huono tällaisessa.Who cries at movies - Aina vaan tekee mieli sanoa Lehto. Mutta. Näistä se olisi kyllä Lammio. Mutta ei se kyllä kauhean helposti murru, ja jos murtuu, se ei myönnä.Who gives unprompted messages - Näistä? Ei kyllä kumpikaan. Lammio voisi joskus ehkä yrittää, mutta Lehto vain murisisi, joten se vetäisi kätensä pois. How they are when they’re sick - Nää on kyllä molemmat varmasti sellaisia, jotka ei myönnä olevansa kipeitä, vaikka olisivat pyörtymisen kynnyksellä ja kurkku riekaleilla liiasta yskimisestä. Who gets jealous easiest - Lehto on edelleen se mustasukkainen, hylkäyskammoinen ressukka. Who collects something unusual - Lehto kerää huonoja lapsuusmuistoja, pettymyksiä ja hylkäyskokemuksia, Lammio kerää pyöreitä kiviäWho takes the longest to get ready - Lammio. Sen täytyy aina laittautua ja näyttää moitteettomalta. Lehto ei niin välitä. Jos parranajohaavoista ei tule liikaa verta ja housut on jalassa, se jätkä on valmis lähtöön.Who is the tidiest and organized - Lammio, helposti.Who gets most excited about the holidays - Ei kyllä kumpikaan. Who is the big spoon/little spoon - Hurrurrurrurgh. Jotenkin tää on niin vaikeeta kuvitella. No mutta. Who gets most competitive when playing games and/or sports - Lehto. Aina Lehto.Who starts the most arguments - Aikalailla tasainen tilanne varmaan. What are their nicknames for each other - Lasketaanko kaikki kuovit, kekkulit, Kekkuli-Heikit, Keikka-Heikit ja muut tähän? Koska sitten ne. Plus sukunimittely.Who suggests that they buy a pet - Lammio. Tai no, se ottaa koiran. Lehdon on vain pärjättävä asian kanssa. What couple traditions they have - Kerran vuodessa Lammio pistää Lehdon seisomaan kovennettua eiku. Hmm. En mä kyllä usko, että näillä olisi oikein perinteitä. Lammio voisi yrittää ehdottaa jotain vuosipäivän juhlallisuuksia, mutta Lehdon kommentti olisi lähinnä “älä nyt jumalauta jaksa”.What tv shows they watch together - Hyvin vaikeaa uskoa, että näillä olisi samanlainen tv-sarjamaku. Jos Lammio katsoo jotain, Lehto saattaa unohtua TV:n ääreen, ei muuta.Another couple they hang out with - Voi luoja, nää kaksi jossain tuplatreffeillä, ihanaa. Hmm. How they spend time together as a couple - mmmiten ihmeessä nää… No, kai ne löytäisi jotain yhteisiä kiinnostuksenkohteita. Ajan kanssa. Joiden kanssa ne sitten voisi puuhata. Who made the first move - Lammio, ihan saletisti Lammio. Who is the best cook - Näistä Lammio. Jos heidän syömisensä olisi Lehdosta kiinni, he eläisivät makaronilaatikolla ja raejuustolla.Who snores - Lehto kuorsaisi ainakin vähän ollessaan kipeänä, eikä Lammio voisi sietää sitä. Hetken Lehtoa läpsittyään se joutuis aina siirtymään sohvalle nukkumaan.

^ the above isn’t mine, but I will be answering some of these as a fun little game!!
1, “do you have a ‘main’ or ‘primary’ theriotype” yes! I do! my “main” theriotype is feline calado!
2, “what is your species? what do you know about it?” I have a lot of theriotypes, too many to describe, I’d recommend checking out my blog introduction as I talk about it there 🤍
3, “do you live in an area similar to your kintype’s habitat?” Same as the answer above!
4, “do you prefer to be seen as your kintype or as a human?” Kintype 100%. I dislike being called human. Well, obviously, because I’m not human!
5, “how much of your life/identity would you consider affected by being alterhuman” Well, my entire identity is affected. I’m not human, and that’s part of my identity. I’m an animal. And I’d say it affects my life quite a bit too, just like the rest of my identity does!
6, “are you a wild or domestic animal?” Both!! 🤍
7, “do you own any gear?” Sadly not, I’m too broke atm 😅🙏. I do own a fursuit though!
8, “do you experience species dysphoria” yes.
9, “does your kintype go by a different identity?” Interesting question tbh. But no, my kintypes are me. I am a nonhuman, I am my kintypes!
10, “how do you feel about others in the community with the same kintype” I think they’re all epic !! Continue being yourselves
11, “have you told any of your loved ones about being alterhuman? If so, how did they react?” Most of my close friends know, or atleast I don’t hide it from them 😅. My friend group knows, but we don’t really talk about it or bring it up as they don’t know much about it. My family has no idea. However, both of my partners are 100% aware, and supportive! + they even know this blog <3
12, “what candle scent do you believe would describe your theriotype?” I want to say chlorine, because it’s my favourite scent, but I have to say Forrest!!
I missed some out due to personal reasons, or I didn’t know what to answer!! Thank you for reading my little game 🤍

Napoli 3-0 Sampdoria: Callejon the star as Napoli deny Quagliarella
Napoli (4-4-2): Meret; Hysaj, Maksimovic, Koulibaly, Rui; Callejon, Allan, Hamsik, Zielinski; Insigne; Milik.
Sampdoria (4-3-1-2): Audero; Berezynski, Andersen, Colley, Murru; Linetty, Ekdal, Jankto; Ramirez; Defrel, Quagliarella.
Tumblr media
Both sides came into the match in very good form, each with 4 wins from their last 6 games. In the league it’s a pity that the title race is as good as over and Napoli cant catch Juventus, but Sampdoria have a real shot of getting into the Champions League, as sides like Roma and Milan are yet to find enough consistency to claim those places on a regular basis. Napoli without Mertens
Fabio Quagliarella last week matched Gabriel Batistuta’s record for scoring in eleven consecutive Serie A matches, and there was a lot of interest in his performance today to see if he could reach 12 and hold the record in his own right. As a former Napoli player the home fans would have been happy to see him do so (so long as he was not on the winning side!) and in recent weeks he has even been recalled to the Italy squad by Roberto Mancini at 37 years of age, highlighting what a terrific season he is having. His best chance to score in this match was at the 30 minute mark when Gregoire Defrel played him through, but he was unable to get his shot away before an excellent sliding tackle by Kalidou Koulibaly - he couldnt have wished for a more difficult opponent to face when desperate to score,  Koulibaly was typically excellent in this match. Quagliarella had some half chances, but it felt like he snatched at the ones he got, possibly worrying a little too much about the potential record he could have held.
Samp played a narrow formation and pressed Napoli high up the pitch - they were quite fluid in their shape to allow them to press Napoli’s much wider formation, more of a basic 4-4-2. Quagliarella and Defrel have both played as wide forwards before, which helped. Napoli played simple shape and a general possession game -they possess two excellent central midfielders in Allan and Hamsik, but neither were key players in the match as they were outnumbered against Samp’s 4 central midfielders. It made sense for Napoli to spread the play and keep it in the wide positions, where they had an advantage of their own.
Napoli’s formation uses natural wingers, while Samp have a more traditional Italian shape, with full backs providing most of the width. Napoli are strong in the wide positions, particularly on the right with Elseid Hysaj at full back and Jose Callejon, who is a real classic winger, and very well rounded in his skillset. Their opening goal came from Callejon being released into space down the right and providing an excellent, curving low cross which left a simple finish for Arkadiusz Milik. It looked like Samp were unsure if the mezzalas in the side were supposed to be helping out wide, or more worried about Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne finding space between the lines.
The latter scored to make it 2-0 just 1 minute and 10 second later - Insigne was essentially playing as a centre forward despite developing as a winger. He would prove difficult for defenders to pick up as he doesnt make the typical movements a striker might make, but was very good in this game. He took advantage of a brief moment of chaos in defence for Samp for his goal, a good finish from a player who has developed a lot in the past few years and now is versatile enough to be used in this position. His lightning pace almost led to a third goal on the counter attack, showing again how dangerous he can be in a central role.
Napoli scored a third goal just before half time, which was ruled out for offside, but it did come from a corner which was won by Napoli left back Rui running from deep and being able to shoot as Samp had no obvious player to close him down. Napoli’s width was a huge problem for Samp, especially Callejon and Rui.
Samp’s front two with Gaston Ramirez in support caused some problems, but it felt like they lacked a focal point in attack, someone who could occupy Koulibaly and co while they worked around him. Riccardo Saponara was introduced in place of Ramirez in a relatively like-for-like change. Saponara was on the verge of a big move a couple of seasons ago - it’s slightly odd to see him not even a regular starter for Samp. He did offer a different threat to Ramirez though, immediately threading a nice through pass for Defrel which was ever so slightly underhit, but gave Napoli something to worry about as Samp now had someone who could release their pacy forwards, and a goal threat himself.
New signing Manolo Gabbiadini replaced Defrel, which meant Samp had two former Napoli strikers on the pitch. Gabbiadini was another goal threat but did not change the team shape or their tactics, which was the underlying issue rather than necessarily the personnel. A couple of long range efforts was all the away could muster as game went on. Utimately Napoli were too strong for them, with Calljon and Insigne constantly threatening, and Samp did not make any changes to help their full backs deal with the problems from Napoli doubling up on them. Napoli were able to take their foot off the pedal a little in the second half and preserve energy. Diawara replaced Hamsik late on to solidify a bit and help see out the game. Napoli were correctly awarded a last minute penalty by VAR which allowed them kill the game, and was comfortably dispatched by their final sub Simone Verdi.
Callejon was the best player on the pitch and man of the match in my opinion. His crossing was outstanding, he set up both goals and was a menace whenever he had the ball at his feet. Carlo Ancelotti has done some interesting things with this Napoli side, and it’s interesting to see Insigne as (an effective) centre forward. They have had to change their style completely a couple of times over the past few years due to losing key players, and more recently managers in Maurizio Sarri. It was a shame for Fabio Quagliarella not to break Batistuta’s record at his old stomping ground, but he can be proud to match the legendary Argentine and take his place in the history books.

100 Days of Writing: the List
Tumblr media
Since it seems there is some interest, why not? List of works (nominally) in progress, old unfinished fics, and Stuff I Want To Write below the cut. Feel free to ask about any of these.
Works (nominally) In Progress
Fanfic
"Reason or Rhyme" (Time Princess - Gotham Memoirs). The Vittorio expansion/fix-fic, because I will be forever disgruntled at how little romance content was actually included in the Mafia romance route.
Galactic Date Night Shenanigans aka "The one where everything is Balkar's fault." (SWTOR - Theron Shan/Jedi Knight). Theron "disaster spy" Shan is goaded into trying to take his wife out for a nice date for once, and it goes like every other plan these two have ever had anything to do with.
#3: [I] trusted [you] (SWTOR - Theron Shan / Jedi Knight). A post-Nathema prompt fic I swear I will finish one of these days.
Original
super secret short story/novella project - Okay it's not that super secret, but it is something I'm mostly keeping under my hat for now as I work on it because of reasons, and is actually (inconveniently, for 100 Days of Writing purposes) the main thing I've been working on lately. I expect to be able to say more about it later. Maybe even within the 100 days! We'll see.
southern gothic urban fantasy procedural romance - Faerie Animal Control Warden meets FBI Elf during investigation of a suspicious death out in the kudzu. A little bit of Bright, a bit Mushi-Shi, a drop of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Stuff I Want to Write
Distinct from works in progress in that I have not actually gotten past the planning stage on any of these - if that. A few of these have been rattling around in concept for long enough to have gone through several distinct evolutions without ever getting any writing done on them. Still, hope springs eternal and ideas are never wasted.
Fanfic
the rival bands AU / the rock opera playlist fic (Sailor Moon - Makoto Kino/Nephrite). Currently exists entirely as an incomplete playlist.
space opera Pride and Prejudice retelling - exactly what it sounds like on the tin. Do y'all know I have yet to encounter a futuristic/space AU? Surely there's one out there somewhere, but I have yet to see it. If you know of one, for the love of God don't tell me.
"Ten of Swords" - (Archer EMIYA/Minako Arisato). fate/stay night + Persona 3 Portable crossover what's even wrong with my brain.
Original
the Regency fae story - a Regency-era fantasy in which a lot of the needlessly complicated and restrictive social rules followed by the upper classes are actually an attempt at defending against the Fair Folk. Sort of Pride and Prejudice vs Changeling: the Lost vs Labyrinth. Could turn into a whole Pride and Prejudice retelling, I guess?
drinking games - fantasy imperial court intrigues involving a romance between a court poison taster and a master spy/assassin.
untitled - East/southeast Asian-inspired Beauty and the Beast retelling in which the Beast is a mountain god whose appearance is based on a tiger. I'm probably too white to write this.
untitled - Private investigator hired to investigate local bad-boy-made-good for insurance fraud, turns out it was actually an ill-advised teenage deal with the devil coming due. Might fit in with that other southern gothic urban fantasy idea, I am not sure.
the ciphered letter - This one started off as a combination of a Mage: the Awakening campaign and a really, really weird spam email I got one time. Orphan gets mysterious ciphered letter, meets snarky Welsh mage, awakens to magic and maybe almost gets made a human sacrifice to an eldritch abomination.
Forfeit - Regency/Victorian-esque fantasy involving reincarnation, a race of immortals, and a half-immortal teaming up with a mortal who sacrificed his future reincarnations for pseudo-immortality to uncover and stop the sinister secrets that power a colonizing empire. It makes more sense in my head... probably?
untitled - Slow burn enemies to lovers between the world-conquering emperor and the rebel leader who's opposing him, over the course of a time loop. AKA Lord of Heroes Kartis/Monarch with the serials filed off. Or I guess I could just write Lord of Heroes fanfic?
low fantasy Magnificent Seven Samurai - Farming village scrapes together a group of starving mercs to protect them from marauders, drama ensues. That's it, that's the whole idea.
Unfinished Fics
Distinct from works in progress in that these are all old enough I can no longer claim I intend to finish them. Some of them I may come back to, especially the few that had substantial progress made before they fell by the wayside. Most will probably be left abandoned, either because I have lost interest in continuing to work on them or I have just plain forgotten what I was planning to do with them.
dreameater - A very old, loosely Forgotten Realms-inspired concept involving an aging half-elf, his fully elven partner, and a mysterious magical threat that's devouring people's dreams.
"Fortune Favors the Brave" (Baccano! - Luck Gandor/Eve Genoard). The Luck/Eve shipping fic.
"Intermezzo" (Blood+ City of Nightwalkers). Follow-up fic to an obscure manga prequel/side story for the vampire anime Blood+, involving Hagi and the Hong Kong cop who semi-adopted him that one time.
"The Art of Losing Everything" (Dragon Age: Origins - Alistair Theirin/f!Cousland). An Alistair/f!Warden fic with themes of loss, duty, and sacrifice.
"In Pieces" (Dragon Age II - Fenris/f!Hawke). A terrible horrible no good very bad AU where Hawke actually turned Fenris over to Danarius and then came back to try to fix her mistake, which I can never finish because I can't make that initial decision make internal sense no matter how hard I try.
"Pas de Deux" (Final Fantasy VIII - Squall Leonhart/Rinoa Heartilly). Exploration of how Squall and Rinoa's relationship could develop after the events of the game.
"With Good Intentions" (Final Fantasy VIII - Squall Leonhart/Rinoa Heartilly). An AU in which Rinoa discovers that technically you can change the past, it's just that if Squall has an actual decent childhood the world ends. Way too ambitious for me to ever actually finish, probably, but I can't quite give up on the idea.
"I've Loved These Days" (Gundam SEED - Mu la Flaga/Murrue Ramius). One of several partly-written Gundam SEED fics kicking around in my files.
"The Last Night of the World" (Gundam SEED - Mu la Flaga/Murrue Ramius). Another Gundam SEED fic, one that began as a prompt in ye olde LiveJournal days. "I've Loved These Days" might have been a prototype, though they don't appear to have any text in common. Could in theory still get finished, maybe.
Valentine's ghosts (Gundam SEED Destiny - Andrew Waltfeld/Murrue Ramius). I'm just saying, Andy/Murrue would have been so much more interesting than the whole Neo thing in Destiny.
"Lion Passant" (Kingdom Hearts). Something something Leon as a failed Keyblade Bearer. The Kingdom Hearts franchise has rewritten its own lore at least three times since I originally had the idea, I can't imagine I'll ever continue it now.
"Vigil" (KotOR - Carth Onasi/f!Revan). Carth/Revan retrospective somewhere around the tomb of Naga Sadow on Korriban.
"Semper Fidelis" (KotOR/KotOR II - Carth Onasi/f!Revan). Post-Sith Lords Carth/Revan resolution fic.
"Clarity" (KotOR II). Atton Rand backstory study from the POV of that one nameless Jedi.
"A Simple Game of Cards" (KotOR II - Atton Rand/Jedi Exile). Spoilers: it is never a simple game of cards. Turns out someone already did it with more or less the same twist I had in mind.
the besieged base fic (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). A fic rendition of the "Besieged Base" mission from the first Mass Effect.
"Get Up, Jonah" (Mass Effect). I woke up thinking about Turkish drummers. Didn't take long; I don't know much about Turkish drummers. Virmire, before the other shoe drops.
"Long Night" (Mass Effect). Ashley on Virmire.
"My Heart Dances" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). Liara POV of Shepard/Kaidan.
"No Way Out" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). Heading up the Citadel during the ME1 endgame.
"Right Here, Right Now" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). An ME1 epilogue / pre-ME2 sort of fic.
"While the Night is Still Young" (Mass Effect - f!Shepard/Kaidan Alenko). Shepard/Kaidan en route to Ilos.
Apparently I had approximately a million little Mass Effect shortfic ideas I never finished and in some cases never started. Apparently they're all for the first game. (I think there was a Thane idea or two for ME2 that I just never started on at all. RIP.)
"To Absent Friends" (Tiger and Bunny). Sad, sad futurefic of an elderly Pao-Lin reflecting on the deaths of all the other heroes over the years.

Juric: ‘Verona points at last’
Hellas Verona Coach Ivan Juric praised his team for a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria. “In recent weeks we had only good performances and no points.”
Marash Kumbulla scored with a free header, then Nicola Murru turned Miguel Veloso’s free kick into his own net.
“The team put in a good, professional and focused performance, pressing when needed, defending when required,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“It was important to get the three points today, as in recent weeks we had only good performances and no points to show for it.”
Kumbulla scored his debut Serie A goal today, but had been expected to leave Verona on loan. Why did Juric decide to keep the 19-year-old defender?
“When we had games between ranks, nobody ever scored past Kumbulla. He is really focused, he learns quickly, is fast and has good stamina, so he’s doing very well.
“Sofiane Amrabat is physically strong and can battle it out with anyone. It’s the kind of strength I wish I had when I was a player!
“The defenders and midfielders are getting to know each other, they are balanced with one a little more aggressive, another more of a thinker.
“In attack, we still have choices to make week by week, as we’ll see who is in better form or suited to that game.”
Mariusz Stepinski arrived from Chievo on transfer deadline day, but is struggling to make his mark.
“I’ve seen few strikers work as hard as he does throughout the week. He stays behind for hours and hours to work on his technique, his shooting and everything. I am sure with all that work, he inevitably will improve.”

Fans Celebrate Kotono Mitsuishi's Birthday by Choosing Her Top Anime Roles
At the age of 51, voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi is still playing some of the most iconic characters in anime, from magical teenagers from beloved parents. But which of her roles are fans' favorites?
For her birthday this year, fans were asked to choose which of her roles they liked best. Time to find out if your fave is in the top 3!
Coming in at #1 is Misato Katsuragi of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series and films. Mitsuishi has recently come back to reprise the role in the Rebuild series. She received high marks for playing a character who's dignified and competent in public, but an exhausted hot mess in private. And, of course, fans remember her next episode announcements from the end of each episode.
At #2 is Usagi Tsukino of the Sailor Moon franchise. Mitsuishi has played the role of the internationally popular magical girl in both the first and latest series, as well as in multiple films and video games. Usagi ranked high among female fans, especially those who grew up with the series. There was also no surprise among fans when she returned to the role for Sailor Moon Crystal.
And at #3 is the legendary Tae Yamada of the currently-airing Zombie Land Saga. For a few weeks, Tae's voice actress was left a mystery, with the revelation that she was played by the Saga-born Mitsuishi coming after the third episode. The extremely zombie-like Tae tends to only communicate through grunts, animal noises, and an occasional almost-word, but the fact that she hasn't had any especially meaningful lines yet just adds to how impressed fans are with the portrayal. There's also a theory that the final two episodes will see her waking up and doing more.
Filling out the top 10 are:
  4. Murrue Ramius, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
5. Boa Hancock, One Piece
6 (tie). Juri Arisugawa, Revolutionary Girl Utena
6 (tie). Nobita's Mom, Doraemon
8. Excel, Excel Saga
9. Rena Mizunashi/Kir, Case Closed
10. Asuka Sugo, Future GPX Cyber Formula

Quagliarella - The Man of Impossible Goals Lights Up Week 3
Round 3 - 6 September, 2018
Azzurri, old and new, were on target in the lead-up to Italy’s debut in the Nations League.
Tumblr media
Who even attempts such things? That man right there; number 27. Meanwhile Defrel (#92) has the demeanor of a man who’s about to lose the spotlight from scoring a brace. - Image courtesy of gazzetta.it
Patrick Cutrone missed out on a call-up to the senior team despite being Milan’s match-winner against Roma. Davide Calabria, who again played well, will join him in the Under 21s. Of those who did make Roberto Mancini’s list, Giacomo Bonaventura and Alessio Romagnoli both put in strong performances and Gigio Donnarumma was not called upon to do anything extraordinary. Roma dropped both Pellegrini and Cristante (the latter coming off the bench) after last week’s draw against Atalanta, but Di Francesco’s fortunes did the opposite of improve. It was a toothless display from a foreign heavy Roma, although they did bring El Shaarawy on who did better than most of his teammates.
Inter got their first win of the season away to Bologna including a goal from Candreva. Gagliardini had a strong game, coming in for Vecino’s shortcomings in the opening 2 rounds. It didn’t prevent Gaglia being excluded from the Champions League list instead of the Uruguayan. Matteo Politano continues his rapid adjustment to life at Inter with another excellent showing, laying on a sharp assist for Nainggolan that was similar to Higuain’s for Milan (similar in execution, but not in praise). Young hopeful, Riccardo Orsolini, continues having a torrid time coming off the bench for a sterile Bologna side that is yet to score.
Juventus ground out another win away at Parma in a fixture that inspires memories of mid-nineties title battles. Bonucci and Chiellini did what was needed in defense and Bernardeschi started again to confirm some extra faith on behalf of Allegri; even if he was taken off after 55mins of playing well.
Fiorentina found themselves an unlikely bomber in the shape of midfielder Marco Benassi, running onto a classy assist from Federico Chiesa who went on a gallop after picking the ball up in his own half. Left-back Biraghi will join his 2 Fiorentina friends in Mancio’s Italy squad. Scuffet had a better time between the Udinese posts compared to his recent outings as he gets ready to join up with the Under 21s.
Atalanta, possibly still dejected from their Europa League exit, fell at home to Cagliari. Their only Italian of note was Gianluca Mancini, who played about as well (or unwell) as his teammates. Cagliari’s Cragno did well and kept a clean sheet on the eve of his maiden senior Italy call-up. He’ll go along with highly-rated Barella who dominated the midfield and scored a match-winning free-kick from an awkward angle. Youngster Filippo Romagna did well in the center of defense and he’ll again accept the call of Di Biagio for the Azzurrini.
Chievo and Empoli traded blows, but not goals on their 0-0 draw. Depaoli started on the bench this time, but did enough during the 20mins conceded to him. La Gumina will still need more time to adapt to his new team and life in Serie A, but he’ll need to do more while Andreazzoli still has faith to start him. Capezzi worked hard in the Empoli engine room again.
Lazio edged out Frosinone, but it was a quiet day for bomber Immobile who’s still yet to double-down on his impressive goal from week 1. Acerbi has settled well in the capital and had a strong game, less so Parolo who was (some would say finally) left out of the Azzurri squad. Murgia made his first appearance of the new season as a late sub; the youth team product needs and deserves more playing time despite Lazio’s competitive midfield. For the regional rivals, Sportiello was OK in goal, but there was a positive note in Francesco Cassata’s good performance. The 21yo is currently on loan from Sassuolo after coming through the Juventus academy. Youngster Paolo Ghiglione came off the bench, whereas Pinamonti did not.
Napoli’s capitulation to Sampdoria was overshadowed by yet another Quagliarella wonder goal. Just add it to his already intense highlight reel which, as far as spectacular goals are concerned, rivals some of the best players in the game - refer to YouTube. That he didn’t even celebrate such skillful ingenuity, as a Neapolitan, made the whole event seem surreal. Fans seemed to question themselves on whether it really happened, thankfully it’s been immortalized on film.
As for the other Italians on the park, Audero kept a clean sheet on the eve of his Under 21 get together and Tonelli proved to his former employers that it was a grave mistake keeping him on the bench for 2 years. Interestingly, the defender still managed 3 goals from 7 appearances over that time, that’s the same amount mustered up by Michu, de Guzman, and Pavoletti combined and from far more appearances.
Also for Samp, Nicola Murru was particularly impressive at left-back and seems to be growing under Giampaolo. Speaking of, Saponara was brilliant under the orders of his old coach. Verdi and Insigne were both dismal for Ancelotti’s Napoli.
Sassuolo and Genoa slugged out an 8 goal thriller, however Gianmarco Ferrari was the sole Italian goalscorer. Locatelli and Berardi both played well from the start for the Neroverdi. Federico Marchetti shipped in 5 goals for Genoa with form that brought back painful memories of the 2010 World Cup, along with Criscito who was also in that ill-fated squad. The only Italian bright spark Genoa was the brace of assists from Favilli who came off the bench.
Torino ended SPAL’s short-lived run at the top of the table, but Sirigu had to do his part to ensure they came away with the 3 points. Soriano looks to be getting back into physical shape and Belotti worked hard up front. Baselli also did well off the bench and Zaza made his debut. Fresh from his debut Azzurri call-up, Manuel Lazzari was one of SPAL’s best performers, Petagna was just OK.
