Losing my shit about this article in which a transphobic Tory was so busy panicking about existing in the vicinity of a Trans that she almost certainly misheard "jeans" as "penis" and decided that not only was this a problem with the other woman, but also that the world must be informed of this pressing danger.

my pieces got accepted to the local museum ! i was quite sure they'd been rejected because i was supposed to hear back over 2 weeks ago, but i guess there were just time issues. am very happy about this !
#found out this morning that my work account was hacked and my last paycheck was diverted to somebody else's bank account#which ate up my entire morning figuring out and has been incredibly stressful. it sounds like whether they can recover the money or not#i will still get my paycheck but the person i spoke to couldnt tell me when bc it has to be looked at by specialists#its also rent paying time so that was the worst possible timing for this to happen and sucks so bad.#so finding out my pieces were accepted and at least im getting a paycheck from that is very relieving#i also realized last night that the colors on the blanket are scaring me#in that i dont know if they actually work or not after all... i just made a little pin loom square with them to see it with the weft#its drying rn ill take a picture soon for comments if i can get the colors right#anyway. yeah so some good news is very appreciated right now for sure

i just found my discord account and scrounged around for the servers I never left and said goodbye to all my old rp partners and internet friends and everyone who made me me. and I may be sobbing but i am so happy I got myself to say goodbye. these people were a bug part of me. Ruminating on the possibility that a few weeks ago I shelved some books that hadn't been returned in the system yet and I'm gonna be panicking about this all fucking weekend
#IF i did that. it was before i knew anything about how to put the books back in the system so they're not on loan anymore#and i always ask before i shelf books#so i must have asked. and whoever it was must have said something like 'those need to be returned'#or something similar. and i must have taken that as they need to be returned to the SHELVES.#im freaking out bc we got a call today from a student who had returned a book 2 weeks ago but her account still had it loaned#and lo and behold i found the book on the shelf and corrected the mistake#but what if that was me. what if i did that two weeks ago#because i think i recognized the book?????? maybe?#i have no fucking idea how to fix this or how to bring it up with my supervisor#lol i keep thinking im going to get fired over the tiniest things but they literally cant fire me#im there on a bursary lol. but really that dry cleaners i worked at once really severely fucked me up i guess#but back to the issue at hand WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO

the boys' first commentary on keating's lessons being cameron and neil saying 'that was weird' / 'but different' is getting to me like the entire film is a narrative on the suffocation of heavy academia and how it prioritises certain subjects (medicine, law, business, engineering) while condemning creativity and passion and how institutions are promoting conformity and grades-over-wellbeing teaching methods more and more as you both move up the elitism scale and as time goes on, and how that was okay for these kids and like so many generations before them they were going to let it happen to them, but one teacher was different. one single teacher told them to seize the day and make their lives extraordinary and he made them look directly at the state of things, and for a little while it was beautiful but they're just kids; how could they ever change things? and sure enough it catches up to them and the institution wins because it always does and suddenly the suffocating thought of what neil is so sure his life is going to be is so daunting and terrifying that he cant even face it
#he's just like me fr just without the gun#like yeah the world is actually a harrowing monotonous place and my generation is the last one to play outside as children#and if you dont chase a certain career path or excel in certain subjects then you're deemed inherently lesser#and your success is measured by your bank account and there is no warmth#like damn this film realeased in the 80s and set in the 50s had no business capturing the terror of being young in our society so perfectly#the ONLY saving grace is the 'o captain my captain' scene at the end#it's proof that the beautiful passion-filled independent lives the boys dreamed about#dont just become food for worms and we dont just go right back to the beginning#there's hope at least even if half the time im too busy BAWLING MY FUCKING EYES OUT to even see the screen at that point#godddd girl watching this doing an 'academic subject' that you despise and on bad days think might be the thing to beat you#but you do it anyway bc you're stuck now and besides your parents kinda made you do it when all you ever wanted to do was write#but that cant happen bc writing isnt 'good' the way economics is 'good' and maybe#maybe all that'll happen is i'll lose and start a career in business and work an office job for two decades#in a world that's melting and owned by corporations that want to bleed me dry#maybe that's all there is#i need a fucking cigarette#dps

this a small part of why i got so incredibly riled up watching this the other day
#the big short#hamish linklater#rafe spall#don't know if they're actually on location at miami international airport but i have spent a fair amount of time there#and they definitely used a sound from that particular airport and again i was transported back to a very unpleasant period of my life#okay so now i'm looking it up and it appears there's only the little grab and go style versailles...#i am ... 85% certain there was a full fledged restaurant in the airport at the time depicted (2007)#because i worked for a company that supported their accounting software LOL (now i'm doubting myself)#honestly this movie is incredibly good at taking an extremely complex and confusing and dry situation that led to the 2008 housing crash#and making it punchy and fun (of a sort) but still packed to the brim with actual details about how it went down#and i think by the end steve carell captured how fucking horrifyingly awful batshit enraging this whole thing was#it was soothing how mad he was lol#i was meryl streep clapping and pointing by the end. say it brother!!!#also the food and coffee is the top of the list of things i miss about miami
