Well, I just realized how much I love Barry and Hal's Saint and Sinner dynamic (not a big surprise, to tell you the truth), but I just find it to be a very simple way to encompass and understand their dynamics.

Hal is the sinner.

An ordinary man, similar to everyone else who has so many flaws that we can all point out.

Hal is a very ordinary person, who you can relate to because of his selfish and human attitudes.

It can be cruel, but it can also be fair.

He can be heroic, but he can also be a villain.

Hal can play any role.

He has that exquisite duality that makes him feel so real and human that it even hurts and uncomfortable to see how much he fails.

Barry, on the other hand, is the most idealistic model. Just like Clark.

A good man who acts based on principles, values and logic.

A man who would be able to put his life at risk to be able to take care of the rest.

A selfless, altruistic and nice man, the kind of person that anyone aspires to be. However, I can still understand why Barry appreciates Hal so much and deep down aspires to be a little more like him.

First Barry believes in the goodness of everyone, no matter how hard Hal tries to pose as a villain and a terrible man, he will never convince Barry of that vision; Because under his "vision" of a saint, he believes that everyone can get a second chance. Everyone has the right to rectify their lives.

He also admires him for being who he is.

All those "bad" characteristics that others see, Barry can't help but find somewhat positive.

Hal is willing to talk openly regardless of what others think.

Hal could put himself first over the rest when he thought it was necessary.

Hal could refuse and be cruel to protect himself, things that Barry often wants to do, but it is not until his limit is exceeded that he does them.

Then he realizes how much he'd really like to be like Hal and that rectifies his idea that Hal isn't that bad.

And Hal wants to be like Barry, kinder and smarter.

Able to inspire others and have a hope that can fill others with that feeling. Hal would like to be more like that ideal that Barry is, but he knows he can't be.

So he just observes it and tries to take care of him.

What other purpose does a sinner have if not to protect the purity and truth of a saint?

Hal hates himself wishing he was a little more like his friend's saint.

And Barry wants to be a little more sinful and free, like his mundane friend.

From there, born their admiration and mutual appreciation.

They can see and admire qualities that perhaps the rest cannot or are interested in seeing.

a taz headcanon I've really grown fond of is that during the preparation for the lich ceremony, Barry was given multiple Best Days Ever just like Lup was, but one of Barry's first actually came from Magnus.

and not even because Magnus knew exactly what Barry and Lup planning, but because Magnus canonically pays a lot of attention to when his crewmates are spending a lot of time in their room or their lab, working themself to the bone on some top-secret project. and when he notices this, he always tries to plan something to cheer them up!

I think that Magnus would've taken some time to get Barry to relax, and get outside away from evil necromantic tomes to have some fun, and that in doing so, he inadvertently gave Barry exactly what he needed to make his plan work :)

Do you think baby trans barry allen would play with lps?

i just wanted to let you know that i started kicking my feet in joy when i saw this ask

despite that, my 1st thought was “no” LMAO i’ve been reading tBatB and forgot that he’s like a 90s baby now. and lps were invented in ‘92, so the timeline matches up!

the question is just if he’d WANT to play with them, and i think my new answer would be… kinda? a lot of barry’s interests were introduced to him by his mom which they bonded over together; comics, sci-fi, those were the things that stuck with him. toys like lps naturally ask for creativity, and barry strikes me as less of the imaginative type when it comes to roleplay/storytelling. dgmw, he’s absolutely creative, but that’s mostly for things he’s already interested in, plus his creativity comes more in the form of problem-solving. barry just feels like the kind of kid that’d prefer reading abt superheroes than playing them

but kids roleplay to process/explore their curiosities, and you’ve seen how my baby barry would “play detective” and “make science potions.” and i tend to portray him as a reserved, introverted kid, so a lot of these roleplay games would be solo. it’s a recipe for playing w lps, but the thing that keeps tripping me up is that he’d grow up with the kenner era, and those things were just animals. the lps most ppl think of didn’t come out until he would be 15, and by then, he’d have outgrown toys in general (rip barry you would’ve loved the special edition 2009 comic con cat 😔)

personally, i think barry got lps as a gift once (maybe from his dad, i imagine he’d try to bond with barry too but they didn’t rly connect as much as with his mom bc he initially just went for whatever was in the girls’ aisle rather than inviting him into his own interests as well-meaning but oblivious dads tend to do). barry probably would’ve reacted as he would for anything that wasn’t related to his interests: politely indifferent. maybe he’d try to incorporate them into stuff he already liked bc he’d feel bad abt letting them go to waste, but it was never abt the lps themselves. if he had action figures, they’d be the action figure’s pets, yk? but i think lps could be a bit nostalgic for him, and when he’d come across the hasbro rebrand of 2005, he’d look at them the way we look at gen 3 lps now lmao

My Interpretation of the Justice League Pt. 1:

Part 1: The Original Justice League: My Justice League reinterpretation is canon to DC comics up until like 1980. The team was founded by seven members, and continued adding new ones later. The Founders were Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Aquaman. Although those were the 7 original founders. Other members came later. Members like: Green Arrow, The Atom, Hawkman, Black Canary, Red Tornado, Elongated Man, Hawkgirl, Zatanna and Firestorm.

Originally based out of Happy Harbour, Rhode Island, the Justice League eventually moved to a space based watchtower. That's where they stayed for at least 5-10 years, before it all came crumbling down around them. And that's where my story goes off the canon rails and becomes it's own special thing.

At some point, Batman begins suffering a breakdown in his mental health (possibly a supervillian is manipulating him from behind the scenes, idk). In any case, batman begins to feel the entire league is conspiring against him. Particularly, he feels all the alien members of the team are a threat to society, and must be destroyed. This leads to batman's attempted coup on the league, which caused a civil war on the team.

This civil war led to the destruction of the watchtower in a giant explosion. Batman manages to subdue every member of the league, even betraying the members of the team fighting on his side. Martian Manhunter is the only member of the team who isn't captured by Batman (he's been off in space doing his own thing since 1971), so he's the only person who can save the day. The JLA Loyalists managed to send him a signal right before they were captured, so he knows something's wrong. So he comes back to earth and takes batman down. Thus settling the question of who's the better detective (it's Martian Manhunter).

After this civil war is ended, Batman is permanently expelled from the team, and his coup attempt supporters are temporarily suspended (at least until they can prove themselves again). But around a month or two after this, the league is so thoroughly demoralized and humiliated on the world stage that the Justice League formally disbands. All the heroes choose to go their seperate ways, thinking it's for the good of everyone.

Only one person doesn't quit the team: The Martian Manhunter. He recognizes that earth still needs a team to protect them from threats both mortal and cosmic in nature. So he comes back from his vigil on Mars (dragging his brother ma'alefa'ak along with him) to return to earth and lead a new Justice League.

I'm back to rambling about a Hal with depression.

I had a really long car ride today, which gave me a lot of time to ramble and out of nowhere "Nothing's New" started playing and the first thing that came to my mind again was Hal. As a person who was diagnosed with depression, I imagined how horrible it must have felt to be alone in that process. I thought about how he knew he was sinking, that he was slowly dying, that he was no longer the cocky hero he claimed to be. And he had no one to talk to, because his "friends" had abandoned him, Carol wasn't by his side at the time either, and Barry, probably the only person who would be willing to listen to him and help him; was no longer alive. He was left dying alone, not knowing what to do or where to go, but still remaining the stubborn and brave idiot he always was. He kept looking ahead still not knowing where he was going.

And then when he died, I thought maybe his last thought must have been something like: "Someone go clean Barry's grave and tell him what's going on in the world?"

I feel like even in his last moments he would have been more concerned about whether anyone would remember to bring Barry his favorite flowers on his birthday, rather than thinking about whether anyone would even remember to build him a grave. Maybe because he already knew the answer.

Sally's apology to John really struck me as a raw, meaningful parent-to-child apology. She didn't dumb anything down, she didn't lie to soften anything, she claimed all of her actions... he was so young, and Sally reacted to his age not by talking down to him, but by finding a way to describe the whole truth so he could understand

Most importantly I think is how she kept saying that John is a good person. Like...she thought she was about to die. And she didn't spend that time asking John for forgiveness or to remember her in a good light. She dedicated her words to making John feel loved. She spent that precious time giving him something to make sense of it all, to heal somewhere down the line even when she's not there
