the ebu is discussing jury reforms!! they really said if käärijä didn't win the whole system is fucked lmaooo
This ask has been sitting in my inbox for a couple of months now because I wasn't sure how to answer. I've been a defender of the 50/50 jury system and still am. Many eurofans change their stance on juries based on if they help their favourites to succeed on a certain year or don't, and I try to avoid being hypocritical like that.
As to Käärijä, what happened was to be expected from the beginning even if the predictability doesn't make it any less painful. His vocals were and are weak because he is a rapper, not a trained singer, and juries are expected to pay attention to that. It was also not a surprise that all juries won't go for funny, goofy and colourful performances when they are looking for something that ticks all the boxes of the best entry of the year.
I still do think that juries fill their role as the quality control of Esc. In my opinion 2006-2008 was the absolute worst era of the contest with all the cheap gimmicks, weak vocals and joke entries with the only purpose to gather televotes. What does bother me though is the certain bias juries tend to have against and for certain countries: favouring Sweden and Malta while treading Poland, Finland and Norway. I do not have any solution for that, but I really hope we won't return to the televote only era.
Because Sweden is hosting next year, there are most likely some changes coming to the contest again and I'm very much not looking forward to Esc getting more and more Swedified and Mellofied. If they make any changes in the voting sequence remains to be seen, but I really doubt SVT would suggest getting rid of juries considering Sweden's last two victories were thanks to jury vote.

ao3 version
-'🍷*.✧
John Walker’s morning had started kinda awesome.
His level of the tower had been uncharacteristically quiet when he woke up, a circumstance he didn’t know he appreciated this much. He had enjoyed the empty gym all for himself, relishing the pleasant burn in his muscles and then prepared himself a hearty breakfast without any interruptions by Ava sneaking up on him or Alexei waltzing through the kitchen like he was a human vacuum cleaner.
Then, he had watched a soccer match on TV until eventually, the first of the other residents of the tower shuffled into the kitchen, in search of some milk and cornflakes. He wasn’t surprised about seeing Bob – they were the only ones who hadn't gotten at least a little wasted last night.
They nodded to each other, a silent acknowledgement of their self-control.
“Is she up yet?” Bob asked with a twitch to the corner of his mouth.
It was close to being afternoon. The only indicator that someone else was awake was the sound of dumbbells getting placed on metal at the gym downstairs. John knew it was Bucky, most likely. There was no way Alexei had gotten out of bed yet.
“Nope.” John said, turning off the TV and rising. “Still in dreamland. She had some soup earlier though, so at least that soaked up all that remaining booze, I guess.” It barely had been an interaction between two functioning humans. You had been out of it and John fed you most of the time before you had kissed his cheek – he didn’t mind morning breath as long as it came from you – and passed out again.
Bob nodded in agreement, then paused. “Hold on…you made soup?”
John scoffed and grabbed a fresh pitcher of water from the countertop. “Yeah? It’s not that hard.”
“No, I know, it just surprises me that you…I don’t know.” He fumbled with the sleeves of his sweatshirt, awkwardly shifting in place. “You’re very different around her. S-softer.”
He took a moment to process Bob’s words, letting them sink in. Softer…God, he tried to be.
John cleared his throat, nodding to himself despite the plan in his mind that had been forming into shape all morning long. “Right. I’ll look after her. Do me a favor; if those children aren’t awake until dinner time, I’ll order pizza just for her and myself.”
“What about me?!” Bob called after him.
“Wake them and you’ll get a pizza too!” John called over his shoulder and began the short walk to his rooms.
A peaceful silence greeted him as he closed the door behind him.
Instantly, his eyes searched across the room for her and landed on the bed placed right in front of the big window front. It had a perfect panorama view into the city, ideal to come down from the day or to passionately fuck the love of his life into the mattress like she deserved. And ever since you had moved into his quarters, there had been a lot of that.
John willed his steps to quieten as he made his way over, his treacherous heart skipping a beat at the sight of you tangled in his sheets. You were just like he had left you earlier, asleep and sprawled out under the blankets. Your messy bedhead peeked out from underneath them and your soft mouth was slightly agape. It was fucking adorable.
He set down the water on the nightstand, the surface messy with each of your belongings. John spotted your earrings and bra – he had taken those off for you last night when you hadn’t been able to do it yourself anymore – and one of the few books he owned and actually read. His watch, his stack of condoms hidden in a small box behind the lamp, your favorite lip balm.
He smiled to himself, knowing that Bob was right.
He was softer around you and you were one of the very few people he fully let in. He worshipped the ground you walked on and he was protective of you, possessive even.
Which was exactly why he simply couldn’t let go of what had happened last night.
And as he slowly sat down at the edge of the bed, he knew he was going to make sure you didn’t forget either…
*
All morning – although your state had been an unconscious one for most of it – your boyfriend had been nothing but kind and caring to you. To be fair, despite his snarky streak and cockiness, John was sweet to you, always.
Before knowing him, really knowing him, you could’ve never imagined this man was going to make you feel so happy and special, but since day one of your relationship, he had been perfect.
Sure, last night had escalated a little, but you didn’t remember much and John had been fluffing your pillows, keeping you hydrated all morning and letting you sleep in later.
It was almost a little too good to be true.
(You should’ve known better.)
You awoke to a soft touch to your cheek and a rough thumb drawing circles over your sleep-warm skin. Your throat clicked as you tried to swallow and you heard the rippling of water on glass as the caress continued soothingly.
Blinking against the dim sunlight outside the tower, you murmured your favorite name: “John?”
“’morning, honey.” He was sitting down beside you, a lazy smile on his pretty face as you rolled onto your side and laid your hand on top of his, unwilling to let him go. “You feeling better?”
You did. To be fair, it hadn’t been exactly ideal to wake up with a raging headache this morning, but since then John had done everything to ease the hangover away and by now, you felt like a princess in her castle. “Mhmmm…”
The corner of John’s mouth curled upwards. “Yeah? That soup was good for your tummy, hm? You needed your strength back, didn’t you”?
“That soup was delicious.” You sighed dreamily. The fresh vegetables and clear broth had been heavenly on your stomach and by now, all unease had vanished, replaced by the intense need to cuddle with your boyfriend and waste the rest of the day away. “Thank you.”
“Oh, you’re welcome. I’m glad.” John’s eyes sparkled as you smiled at each other. “Can you sit up for me? I want you to have a whole glass of water, okay? Gotta keep my girl hydrated. It’s cool too.”
You shuffled towards him and let him help you sit up, the headache from earlier fully gone and out of your mind. He held on to the glass for now as you drank, watching him watch you over the edge of the rim.
Despite his watercolor eyes, you could always see the fire in them and when you were done, you couldn’t help but kick the blankets away from your legs, his silent gaze on you calm and intrigued.
You gasped at something behind him, quick to climb out of bed and pick up your disheveled dress from the floor. It must’ve landed there at some point last night when John had helped you undress and got you to bed. (In John’s versions, he needed to chase you through the entirety of the room before you had finally given up and collapsed against his chest, offering your laced up back to him while he had the boner of his life and couldn’t fucking act on it. In your version, you only remembered finally being enveloped by his scent on his shirt on your much smaller form.)
Suddenly, you were very aware of the fact that you were dressed in only a shirt, which you had stolen from him some months ago, and panties while John was fully dressed in a shirt that showed off a hint of his muscular stomach and some gray joggers that complimented his thighs. He sat on the bed in front of you, legs spread a little, the outline of his cock visible through the fabric.
“You looked so damn hot last night…” John mumbled, licking his lips as his eyes wandered over your naked thighs, up to the hem of his shirt on you, too big and yet not big enough to hide the baby pink lace panties you wore. “In that little black number of a dress? Fuck, you wanted to kill me, hm?”
His hand brushed down your arm, over your wrist until he rested it on your waist.
You bit down on your lip. “You liked it?”
He hummed non committedly, tugging you forward until you stood between his legs.
His inviting, predatory smile lured you closer, perhaps beckoning you into a kiss. But just as you wanted to sink down into his lap, he pulled and your breath hitched as you were suddenly draped across his lap over the bed, ass up and perfectly presented to him.
“John, what-“
“You truly didn’t think I’d forget, did you?” He wanted to know from you in a low tone. A sense of danger tingled in your stomach, a feeling you usually only got out on the battlefield.
You tried to look at him over your shoulder, the strain uncomfortable but quickly forgotten as his large hands ghosted over the back of your thighs. Up, up… “F-forget what?”
“Oh honey.” John chuckled darkly and to your embarrassment, the deep sound paired with one of his hands slowly lifting up your shirt was enough to get you wet for him. Your cheeks heated as you felt his eyes on your bum. “Don’t play stupid now. I know you’re not. Although last night, you could’ve fooled me.”
You gasped in protest, trying to wiggle around in his lap to face him, but he was having none of it. His hand on your waist held you in place, the other now travelling to brush through your hair, nails scratching seductively against your skull.
“C’mon, it’s not hard to remember, is it?” He encouraged you mockingly. “Use that pretty brain of yours. How many drinks did you have last night?”
Something in you went very still.
Oh fuck.
You were fucking screwed.
“It wasn’t that much.” You eventually said quietly.
When you heard his tongue clicking, you knew you had given him the wrong answer.
“Not much, huh?” John seemed to think about your words, all the while absently drawing circles into your skin, just barely underneath the delicate seam of your panties. “Seems like the night got a little away from you, love. Because I haven’t had a single drink and I remember you having ten.”
“What?!” You protested, shaking your head immediately. “No. It for sure wasn’t ten, John. I only had a beer with Yelena and a c-“
“Cocktail with Ava?” He completed for you, his famous know-it-all grin now on full display for you. And shit, you were still caught like this in his lap and it was starting to drive you mad- “Don’t move. Don’t make this any more complicated than it has to be, honey. So, you had a beer, a cocktail and at that point of the night, those sickeningly sweet shots had come out, remember? You said mint and berry was your favorite. Of course you could only come to such an insightful conclusion after tasting every single one in the box. That would make six. In total, eight. And as the cherry on top, Alexei had gotten some clear booze without a label on the flask from his room and you had ended the night with those.”
Your cheeks burned and for a moment, you opted to just bury your face in the sheets and die.
Is that what happened?
You certainly remembered having fun, but did you really escalate like this last night?
“Are you sorry?”
You gaped at him. “For what?”
Something in John’s eyes softened and hardened at once. “Wrong answer.”
In the next second, he had ripped your (his) shirt open and you gasped as the cool air hit your naked back. Your panties went up your body a notch, so the fabric barely covering your backside was now squeezed in your ass crack, the sudden friction against your sensitive center a shock.
As if he couldn’t help himself, John smoothed his hand down your back once more, your body a blank canvas right in front of him. You let out a surprised moan as you felt him harden against your side, his hips adjusting with you on the bed until he held you in the perfect position for what had been going through his mind all morning.
“Here’s what’s going to happen, honey.” He explained calmly, your nerves fluttering as he rested his palm on your ass. “I’m going to give you ten spanks. One for every drink you’ve had yesterday. And you’re going to take them like the good girl I know you can be and if you behave, you might get a reward, alright?”
Okay.
Okay.
You knew two things for certain.
Your boyfriend was the hottest guy on the planet.
And: if this was the mood he was in, you were unsure if you were going to make it through those ten spanks. You stared up at him, wide-eyed and more than turned on, yet something in his face shifted as you didn’t give him a verbal reply.
“Is this okay?” John swallowed, his hands ever so present on your body, not abandoning you.
“Yes.” You nodded at him, probably a little too enthusiastic. “Fuck, yeah, I mean- yes, John. I want this.”
John let out a deep breath and bent down, softly brushing your hair aside as he slid a pillow underneath your head and kissed your nape. Your mind drifted off a little further at his gentleness, preparing you for what was about to occur.
“Good. Count them for me, honey.” He whispered into your ear one last time, a violent shiver spreading down your spine right before he-
You gasped wetly into the pillow. The noise still echoed in your ear before your brain even processed the sting. It felt for a moment as if this hadn’t even happened to you. “One.”
You tilted your head back and laughed carefreely at Yelena’s story. The door of the elevator slid open just as you briefly dropped your forehead onto her shoulder, revealing your boyfriend as he entered with a sour expression on his face. The girls and you had been listening to some music before the other members had truly trickled into the broad living room after their day. Your beer bottle was on a good way to be empty soon and the night was still young.
“What’s going on here?” John asked briskly, setting down his shield as his gaze flickered over you. You were exquisite, wearing a new slim black dress you had gotten recently, a pretty little thing you knew he’d love.
“It’s a party, Walker.” Ava announced nonchalantly, lifting your legs to rest in her lap. He’d never admit it, but the sight of his girl between those two women did something very interesting to his mind…
John let out a shuddering breath above you as he instantly rubbed over the flesh he just hit, careful to take in every little micro reaction of your body. “Good, honey. The first one is always so surprising, isn’t it?”
Before the last word even left his mouth, his palm made contact again.
You jumped, your fingernails digging into the plush pillow as the sting now made itself known, slowly spreading through your flesh and doubling the first one. Did he just hit you harder the second time?
“Two…”
About half an hour later, John emerged from a much-needed shower, the crazed thoughts in his mind having led him to jerk off in the bathroom like he was a fucking teenager. By the time he got back to the living room, Ava and you had moved on to the fancy bar.
He grabbed himself a taco from the makeshift buffet on the counter, silently brooding and mad at himself. There was a beautiful woman that also miraculously happened to love him back and he was pouting.
“Baby, do you want a drink too?” Your sweet, addicting perfume enveloped his senses as you slid your arms around him and breathed a kiss on his neck. He caught Ava’s smirk as he shifted on the bar stool to face you. When he did, you purposefully popped a cocktail cherry between your red lips, your tongue chasing the sugar coating them seductively.
John swallowed hard as he noticed the glazed shimmer in your eyes. Unfocused, a little out of it. “No, thank you.”
You sighed dramatically, your embrace disappearing as you accepted the elegant glass Ava held up to you. “Fiiine…”
“I think you were trying to rile me up a little, am I right?” John considered thoughtfully as if your pussy wasn’t currently drooling onto his joggers, as if his hard length wasn’t poking your hip, as if it wasn’t becoming hard for you to stay still, needing any kind of friction besides the harsh impact soon before you’d lose it. “Making a show, being all cuddly with the girls. But that’s not even the worst part…”
“I don’t know what you mean.” You breathed, almost a sigh and he made a pitiful sound in the back of his throat as the next blow followed.
“Fuck! Three!”
“Hi guys!” You waved cheerfully as Alexei and Bucky came back from their nightly training sessions at the gym. Your expensive earrings were sparkling in the low lights behind the bar and John stiffened as he saw Bucky’s eyes briefly travelling over your body. “Look what we found, we got shots!”
A blinding jealousy suddenly surged through him and he couldn’t help the grunt that left him when he spanked you again.
“F-four.” You whispered, short of breath as the sting under your skin intensified, your body too hot, too loaded with whatever spell John was holding you under.
“Aaah, look at our printsessa.” Alexei beamed as you gave him a twirl, a few empty shot glasses splayed out on the counter between the four of you. John was staying on the sidelines, passive-aggressively biting his lip as someone else praised his girl. His! “Johnny, you are a lucky, lucky man.”
“I know.” He gritted out, white hot anger flashing through his veins as you giggled. “I’m the luckiest guy on the planet.”
At your next little kiss against his ear, he could smell a whiff of peppermint.
“Five!” You nearly shouted, sounding as if you had been underwater and were now longing for fresh air in your lungs. Your naked feet brushed over John’s legs, your own needing stimulation or soothing or any thought as the pain of his spanks finally got to you.
“God, look at you.” He smoothed his palm over your burning ass and you whimpered, burying your face in the mattress as a few tears escaped before his other hand squeezed your neck gently. I’m here. “Gotta even you out now, hm? You’re halfway there, but still so far to go, sweetie. Don’t worry. Daddy’s going to help you with the next ones.”
He rubbed your abused ass, adoring how red the skin had become through him before he slowly moved on to your other cheek. You were dragging in a wet breath, trying to steady yourself, but not quite succeeding.
“Sh sh, it’s alright.” John hushed you softly, leaning down once more and letting his lips and beard travel over your rippling back muscles as you laid there and took it, awaiting it. “Daddy’s gonna count now, okay?”
“Six.” His steady voice echoed through the bedroom and the first blow to your untouched cheek hit you full-force.
“I think you’ve had enough for tonight, honey.” John said underneath his breath, his smile undeniably tense as you stumbled over your own feet. The team had moved to the comfortable lounge by the windows, sharing stories and laughs and you just had wanted to get yourself something else to drink.
“Noo, I’m okay.” You freed yourself from his grip, pouting at him as his hand dropped lamely from your wrist. “We’re just having a little fun, John. I’m a Thunderbolt too, remember? A little alcohol won’t kill me!”
That was rewarded by a cheer from the two girls and an encouraging roar from Alexei. Bucky, John noticed, was staying quiet for the most part, giving him an understanding nod as John felt his eyes on him. (Bob had gone to bed right after he finished his plate of tacos, if anyone was wondering.)
You tried to adjust your position on John’s lap, the heat in your core liquid and overwhelming. The need to rub against him, against anything was becoming so strong, you were trying to grind against the material of his joggers – to no use.
When John realized what you were doing, he quickly grabbed both of your wrists and pinned them together behind your back, a frustrated groan leaving your lungs as he held you captive.
“Don’t make me tie you up.” He growled darkly. “I will fucking do it and then you won’t get to come at all-“
“No…” You whined, feeling your soaked core clench around nothing at the threat, the wet fabric of your pretty panties now ruined with your slick. “Please, I need to come, I need-“
Smack!
“Seven.”
John was sure by the time this night was over, he was going to have grinded his teeth so badly he needed a bite splint. The music had been turned up and there was a pretty bad liquor stain on the fluffy carpet beneath his feet, not that it mattered.
What mattered was that his girl was fucking wasted and currently dancing on top of the table.
He moved to grab you, haul you against his chest and carry you out if he’d have to, but just then, Yelena’s arm was suddenly on his shoulder, holding him back without force as Ava and Alexei cheered you on.
“Walker, come on…she’s just having fun.”
“She’s not in control anymore.” He spat out.
“So what?” She shrugged. “She’s with us, she’s safe. I can’t think of any better environment for her to lose control. Would you like her to be at some club instead right now?”
“Fuck no.”
“There, you got your answer.”
He looked down on his girl, your bottom writhing against his hand. Your abused skin was the same shade as your cheeks, rosy and devastated and so fucking beautiful. “Come on, sweetheart. Almost done. Eight.”
“Oh no.” John growled, having turned his back once and instantly regretting it at the sight greeting him when he walked back from the messy bar. “Absolutely fucking not.”
Bucky Barnes was dancing with his girl. Or rather, you were trying to dance with him, Bucky’s awkward stance half holding you upwards, half keeping you at a safe distance. There wasn’t anything sexual about it – earlier you had also danced with the girls and John had wanted to splash some cold water in his face – and he was not worried about losing your heart to Bucky.
But…he was supposed to be there for you like that.
Only him.
Flames roared in his chest as he marched forward and swiftly lifted you up and over his shoulder. You let out a squeal, not realizing what was happening for a second as he determinedly walked away with you, followed by the awws and booos! of his team members.
“Are you kidnapping me now, sir?” You giggled behind his back, drawing an upside-down heart on his spine. Shit, he was so ridiculously hard.
“Good fucking girl.” He purred, a dark obsession at your pitiful state in his eyes. You hiccupped, rubbing your wet thighs together, your nails digging little half moons into your palms. He smoothed his hands over you repeatedly, making sure to touch every inch of you, assuring you that you were doing good. “I think you earned those last two to be over quickly, don’t you think?”
“Mhmmm…”
“Aww, my pretty baby. Come on now, I’m here with you. Nine.”
That damn chase through his own bedroom, your drunk giggles echoing off the walls as you kept slipping through his fingers.
“Ten.”
The delirious kisses you had pressed against his jaw, his neck and cheek as he had helped undress you despite his frustration knowing he for sure was not going to act on these desires.
John instantly released your wrists and hoisted you up against his chest, careful of your raw flesh as he manhandled you into a comfortable position where you could lean your head on his shoulder and rely with your whole body on him.
The last two blows had followed in quick succession and you were breathing harshly into his ear, your limp arms wrapping themselves around his neck as you sniffled into his neck. His arms were not letting go of you, keeping you two pressed close as he mumbled soothing words into your ear.
“Shit…” You panted after a while, still getting his pants wet as you leaned heavily against him.
“You did so good, baby girl.” John cooed, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear as he tilted your head up to make you look him in the eyes. “You deserve a reward, don’t you agree?”
“I didn’t realize it was that many.” You gulped, eyes big and trusting and only reserved for him. “I didn’t want to upset you, I promise. It was just fun…”
“Shh, honey, it’s okay.” John’s thumb touched your bottom lip. “It’s already behind us. I’m not angry anymore. Shit, I don’t think I ever really was? I just get…possessive and sometimes I don’t know how to handle that. And I’ll work on that, promise. I want you to have fun. I love seeing you happy. And…you did look pretty hot last night.”
You laughed quietly and rubbed your nose against his. “C'mere. Kiss me, you idiot.”
He gladly did.
John surged forward like a man starved of his meal, connecting your lips in a messy, bruising kiss. The last remaining bits of his ripped shirt slid off you and with your current seat now, you finally had the chance to grind your clit against something solid which just happened to be the massive bulge in his pants.
You both moaned in unison, your panties not more than a sopping wet cloth at this point.
“How about this?” John said between kisses, his hands drifting from your shoulders to your aching boobs, large hands cupping their warmth and keeping them secure. “You’ll get ten fucks by my fingers, okay? Not more, not less. I know you can come just from that, you’re so close already, aren’t you?”
Your pupils were blown wide by the suggestion, yet you couldn’t help but bite down on his bottom lip. “I thought my punishment was over, sir?”
“Oh baby girl. This is the reward.” John’s arm reached around you, his skilled fingers quickly dragging your panties aside before they finally touched where you needed him most.
“God, you’re so gorgeous.” He groaned, his fingers dragging through the obscene amount of slick between your legs. “Look at you, you’re so wet for me, angel. All mine. Only I can do this to you, alright? Just me.”
“Just you.” You slurred against his arm, trying to press back into him.
“My good girl.” He praised, devouring your mouth with his one more time as his fingers finally, finally slid home.
John began and you descended just a little more into madness.
It shouldn’t have been possible.
It shouldn’t.
But with him, it was.
He slowly began to finger you with tortuously slow pumps. You were beyond counting; this was exactly what you needed to come down from the intensity he had given you and John seemed to know it.
You lost yourself in the slow strokes of his finger inside of you and at the filthily wet sound between your legs, another digit joined quickly, his knuckles ever so lightly brushing against your untouched, throbbing clit.
“Such a sweet little pussy.” John groaned and your head was spinning.
Too tired to help and reach down to toy with yourself, you slung his arms around him and trusted the process, the slowness of his motions expanding the feelings and sensations in your core even more. The orgasm you had been chasing was blossoming like a flower, not quite there yet but coming, coming…
“Are you even counting anymore?” You whispered to him breathlessly and he laughed, drunk on the beautiful woman in his arms.
“Nine…” He licked the side of your neck, his fingers pushing into you and slowly dragging out, your wetness ruining his pants as his other fingers finally paid attention to your clit. “Ten.”
At his final push in, you shuttered apart, your whole body freezing up and releasing the tension all at once. You moaned beautifully in his mouth as the two of you kissed and he grinned smugly against you. John kept his fingers inside of you, relishing the feel of your slick walls contracting around him.
You felt close to just passing out against your man, his warm body keeping you secure and sheltered as you recovered from your intense high. Little aftershocks, paired with the delicious pain on your backside, kept shooting through you and you weren’t sure you ever wanted to get up again.
“Thank you…” You breathed and gave him a soft, innocent kiss. “That was amazing. Fuck, John…”
You stayed like this for a while longer, him holding you and making sure you wouldn’t drop on him. For a moment, you thought your favorite thing on this earth was to simply co-exist with Jonathan Walker until the end of your days.
“I love you so fucking much, honey.” He kissed your cheek. “’m gonna make sure your ass won’t be sore later, okay?”
“Sounds good…” Your eyelids were drooping, your heart content to simply fall asleep, but John seemed to have other plans. “Love you.”
“Hold on, stay with me.” John mumbled before he kissed your sweaty temple and lifted you from the bed. He shushed you when you half-heartedly whimpered at his hand on your raw bottom. “’s alright. I’m gonna draw you a bath, hm? How does that sound to my good girl?”
You smiled blissfully, humming in agreement as he started to carry you towards the big bathroom. “Perfect.”
Who knew what ten drinks could lead to…

Before the Birds Sing
Christophe wakes on the morning of April 7th for the 273rd time.
It is 7:03, as it almost always is, and it is the snooze-delayed alarm that wakes him, as it almost always does. Christophe knows the pattern of bird song before they chirp, and he knows the exact cadence of cars that hum by on the street before they even crawl around the corner. Christophe listens to it, and he dawdles on his phone.
There is no practical reason to check his phone. He knows of course that it is 7:03 and he knows it’s 67 degrees outside—sunny—35% humidity—and he knows the contents of the 2 texts he received overnight. But Christophe makes motions with no practical reason. He does it to not upset anyone who, if paying close attention, could take issue with him knowing things before he’s learned them.
Christophe stows his phone into his pajama pocket at 7:06 and goes downstairs, which is the optimal time to go downstairs. Any earlier and Madeline’s pot of coffee would still be brewing, and she’d offer him first-cup with a touch of resentment over him getting first cup of the pot she’d been brewing. But if he refuses it would be a Thing, and Christophe hates starting a Thing.
But it is 7:06, and Madeline is starting to empty the dishwasher, steaming cup of coffee perched on the counter beside the sink. Christophe says, “Morning” and kisses her head and pours his own cup.
“Morning,” Madeline answers. Her hair is not damp anymore, but it could be in the two cases Christophe woke at 6:45. He hadn’t yet figured out what caused that. He’d never been able to recreate it on purpose.
“Oh,” Madeline always says. “My mom wants to come over for dinner tonight. Kinda late notice but is that okay?” she always asks.
“Yeah, sure,” Christophe sometimes answers. Because the sometimes when he sounds too neutral makes Madeline’s mouth tighten with worry. And the sometimes when he’s too enthusiastic makes Madeline stiff like she’s confused. “I hope she’s got more stories about Boki,” which is Madeline’s mom’s new dog, and is the optimal answer to give about her mom coming over for dinner.
“He’s gotten so big,” Madeline says with a smile.
This is optimal because Boki is an easy topic to interrupt when Beatrice from across the street slams into Christophe’s car.
“Christ!” Madeline reacts to the SLAM-RRCH, WHEEP WHEEP WHEEP WHEEP of collision and car alarm and woo woo woo of Bucky from the downstairs unit.
(“Hush, Bucky,” Peter from the downstairs unit says muffled.) Christophe is in the stairwell, heading out the door. (Peter is making hashbrowns. Christophe stopped at his door one morning, for no real reason. During the mid-100s of his loop, Christophe tried a few things “just because.”) So he thinks about the hashbrowns abandoned on the stove while Peter pulls Bucky away from the door. Christophe goes outside to Beatrice with her hands on her head.
“I didn’t see it!” Beatrice always says while Christophe opens the door. There is lipstick smeared from lip to hairline straight across her cheek. She wears an expression like she’s run over someone’s child.
Christophe goes through the motions of looking at his car, which is always identically dented in the fender, with the same red paint tucked in its scratches. “Hey hey, these things happen. Do you have your insurance information? We just need to call our insurances, and they’ll sort it out.”
This is the optimal answer. Beatrice calms down, as she takes comfort in being given actionable direction. Christophe knows a lot about Beatrice, who he’d never met before today. She has three sons: Jimmy who knows a mechanic from college, Kevin who is an insurance adjustor, but for a life insurance company, and Mikey, who is Beatrice’s favorite as most of the time, he’s the one she calls.
“Yes, yes okay. It’s in the glove box—yes, Mikey, yes that’s—the guy is here, his car. Mikey, I should get my insurance information, right? Yes,” Beatrice says into her earpiece. Christophe thinks to ask her what Mikey does for a living, but there’s no reason to detract today’s path, which so far is optimal.
Beatrice scuttles away, opening her passenger door and half leaning out of it while she finds her papers. There is no good way to prevent Beatrice from hitting his car—as it turns out, no one believes you if you preemptively try to tell them not to hit your car. And getting his own car out of the way doesn’t quite work. Getting to it in time requires cutting Madeline short on her question about her mother. And the interruption makes Madeline upset.
If he can figure out how the 6:45 wake-up loop works, maybe Christophe could move his car first, then talk to Madeline, then Beatrice wouldn’t hit his car—but it would be a lot of pressure, to get that lucky, and then try to do the whole day after that perfectly, lest he just wake up all over again, 7:03, hearing the birds before they chirp.
“This, I think. It’s this paper?” Beatrice asks.
“Yes yes, see this number? You’ll need to call that one.” Christophe just needs to be understanding, but firm. And not say anything like, “Sorry, maybe my car was too far out of the driveway!” because that will make Beatrice purse her lips and nod and say “Yeah, actually I think your car was too far out.”
Beatrice asks—maybe to Christophe, and maybe to Mikey—how long this whole thing with insurance will take. Christophe tells Beatrice insurance should handle it quickly. He’s not sure if that’s true. He’s never made it to tomorrow.
Christophe’s shoulders ease down a fraction once Beatrice is out of sight. The rest of the morning is easier. Madeline only needs to be told “Don’t worry, insurance is handling it.” And there’s no real wrong way to shower, and no real wrong way to get dressed. And as long as he avoids Summer Street on the way to work (someone hit a fire hydrant there) then there’s not many wrong ways to get to work.
Christophe reads all unread emails, which are memorized at this point. He accepts Frankie’s invite to grab lunch together in the cafeteria. He doesn’t start anything important while counting the minutes to 9:43. 9:43 comes, and their boss Bruce calls Christophe, and Frankie, and Arnold into his office.
Bruce wears the same olive shirt every day with the same unmatching plum tie—except for one day when he wore an orange tie. He orders everyone to sit the way he always does. And he gives the same rant, which Christophe puts on a face of surprise for, while Bruce reads out the scathing customer email received overnight over a massively delayed shipment. Bruce’s hand flies around in a rage, and there is a different watch on today.
The watch is unusual. It’s silver. Not the normal gold one, and kind of thinner. Christophe wonders why it’s different. Christophe wonders about the little things that are capable of changing, and whether that means Peter isn’t always cooking hashbrowns, or if one of these days Beatrice simply won’t hit his car.
“So tell me, Mahone, how does this happen?”
Christophe snaps from his thoughts about watches, experiencing the emotion of surprise for the first time in many days.
“If they’d gotten us the right shipping address from the start, we wouldn’t need to be jumping through all these hoops and taking the blame to fix their fuck-up.”
Bruce’s little eyes get about as big as they can on his red face, and Christophe immediately feels his ribcage drop down to his feet.
He’d given the optimal response… to offer to Frankie in the office space later, when Frankie would be sitting crouched and staring at his knees with an expression like he didn’t want to be staring at his knees. This is Frankie’s client, and every time today happens, Frankie shoulders the most blame. And it makes Frankie feel a little better when Christophe directs the blame back onto them.
Bruce’s answer, optimally, is, “It’s an oversight, you’re absolutely correct. I know our team can get this sorted out today. And we’ll craft an apology email to them immediately.”
“Mahone did you just say the word… ‘fuck-up’, to me?”
Bruce is having an affair. Christophe doesn’t technically know this today. But he does if he tries proactively to enter Bruce’s office and read the (quite positive) response email to his apology, and only if he times this between 1:19pm and 1:21pm. Maria from accounting is under the desk for reasons that cannot be explained away. He actually needs to come in at about 1:30pm to read the email, which Bruce will nod to and give a firm clap of approval to Christophe’s shoulder.
“Sorry, I completely misspoke. I meant to say ‘our’ fuck-up, and…” Christophe trails off, tired. He is long-since tired of finding brand new optimal paths off untrodden conversations. He is quickly losing the motivation to try. This is clearly unsalvageable.
Bruce has a wife and a 9-year-old daughter.
“Sorry, we'll try that again,” Christophe says, under the gawking stares of Frankie and Arnold.
“No, you don’t get to try that again, Mahone. Not to me,” Bruce says. “You can pack your desk and get out of here.”
Christophe does not pack his desk.
It is 7:03 am. Christophe hears the note of each bird before it chirps.
“Oh,” Madeline always says. “My mom wants to come over for dinner tonight. Kinda late notice but is that okay?” she always asks.
“Yeah, sure,” Christophe sometimes answers again. “I hope she’s got more stories about Boki.”
“He’s gotten so big,” Madeline says with a smile. SLAM-RRCH “Christ!” WHEEP WHEEP WHEEP WHEEP woo woo woo.
“I’ve got it,” Christophe says. He opens their unit door and rounds the stairs. (“Bucky, hush.”) He thinks about hashbrowns.
Bruce’s watch is gold again today.
“So tell me, Mahone, how does this happen?”
“It’s an oversight, you’re absolutely correct. I know our team can get this sorted out today. And we’ll craft an apology email to them immediately.”
Christophe is dismissed along with Frankie and Arnold, who bow lower than him and walk like they have tails tucked up. Christophe opens the door back into their office space, and Frankie takes his seat, staring at his knees with an expression like he doesn’t want to be staring at his knees.
Christophe squeezes a hand on Frankie’s shoulder. Performatively, he looks over his own shoulder, like he’s checking to ensure Bruce hasn’t followed. Bruce never does. “If they’d gotten us the right shipping address from the start, we wouldn’t need to be jumping through all these hoops and taking the blame to fix their fuck-up.”
Frankie straightens a little, until he only a little bit resembles a shrimp. He smiles a little at Christophe.
Christophe takes his own seat, and he begins crafting the optimal client apology email.
Christophe pulls into the grocery store parking lot. He has a text message open from Madeline, performatively.
“Hey, sorry I don’t think I can make the fish tonight. There’s not enough for three people. Can you pick these up on your way home? We can just do a taco night.”
Sometimes Madeline says this aloud to him in the morning, if he comes down at 7:03 and if he doesn’t turn the conversation to Boki. It’s more convenient to have the list as a text message, though it functionally stopped mattering after about the 10th loop when he’d memorized the ingredients.
Christophe’s path through the grocery store is optimized. Though that is another thing that functionally does not matter. It makes no true difference if he doubles back for the avocados, or combs the spice aisle twice, or even if he stands blankly in the produce section thinking about car insurance or workplace affairs. The grocery store doesn’t really count for anything. As long as he delivers the one good joke to the cashier, it’s a success.
“A lotta avocados,” Amanda with the nose piercing says. That her name is Amanda and that she has a nose-piercing are technically the only things Christophe knows about her today. But on other todays, he’s asked her about family and about school. She has three sisters and three cats. She goes to community college. She’s a Scorpio. There is a faint scar on the middle knuckle of her right hand.
“Yeah, I’m thinking of trying out avocado therapy.”
She gives him a quirked eyebrow. He waits a beat.
“Just start smashing them until I’m better or until I have guacamole, whichever comes first.”
Amanda snorts, and she scans the last item. It’s NOT even that funny. But he said the avocado therapy thing one loop for no real reason and, somehow, it was a hit. He’s tweaked the delivery just a bit, until it felt optimal.
Christophe folds himself back into the car with the avocados and the cilantro and the lime and the onion and the chips. He turns the car on, and the radio crackles to life with Sexyback on the throwback channel. He lets it play in its entirety before moving the car out of park. It’s easier than counting the minutes needed before he’s allowed to arrive home without Madeline remarking that he got home from the grocery store “really fast.” It’s also why optimizing the avocadoes doesn’t matter. Getting home from the grocery store too fast is weird, and Christophe optimally does not do anything weird today.
Lucinda is already in the kitchen when Christophe arrives home, smelling faintly of cloves, which Christophe figured out on about the 50th loop. She is parked on the barstool overlooking the island counter, hawkishly observing the bowls of cheese and sour cream and tomatoes and shredded lettuce.
“Ah, he’s back. Finally,” Lucinda says, and there’s never any real avoiding that. Even when Christophe comes home weirdly early, he’s come home late. “You should be helping Madeline prep. Not me.”
Lucinda takes the whisky glass with the one spherical ice cube and re-parks herself at the kitchen table. Christophe unpacks the guacamole ingredients, and he does not ask about Boki yet, because Boki needs to be the second topic tonight.
Christophe makes guacamole with the exactly ripe avocados, and the exact right proportions of lime and salt and onion—it is, if he’s honest, not enough onion—but it is optimized for Lucinda, who stopped criticizing his guacamole after about the 100th loop.
He uses the bowl Madeline likes and dumps in the chips that Madeline likes too. He offers her a single chip while she’s still frying the ground beef, and she takes it with a secret little smile. He gives her a secret little smile in return, which is enough to somehow say Lucinda is a mutual nuisance, but not enough to suggest he hates her.
The taco ingredient bowls all come to the table one by one. Lucinda is slopping a pile of guacamole onto her plate with the guacamole ladle. “Ethel’s cancer is back. Poor girl. Lopped off both her breasts already. What more can you do?”
“Oh no… Mom, that’s horrible,” Madeline says. She’s stopped mid-taco-bite, brow scrunched in worry. “When did she find out?”
“Today. She doesn’t wanna do chemo again. Poor girl. Probably on her way out at this point.”
Christophe knows from other todays that Ethel is 87. She’s a gardening friend of Lucinda. She used to be a world-class chef, when being both a woman and respected in the restaurant world was unheard of. She has 14 great-grandchildren. She’s taken a boat across the Atlantic Ocean. She beat cancer at age 75. She is probably going to die to it this time.
This is not the first time Christophe has thought about the fact that, as long as today is April 7th, Ethel will never die of cancer. He’s thought about all the people who would have died in the months after April 7th who, in some way, are still alive. And if or when the loop breaks, everyone who dies on April 7th does not get to wake up tomorrow.
But these are the sort of thoughts Christophe has had in depth since the very early days of his loop. He thinks, by and large, he’s settled on the answer that, for every person who doesn’t die today, there is someone else denied being born tomorrow. And whoever he’s holding to life today is offset by someone else who should get to live tomorrow.
There are people out there who are living the worst day of their lives every single day for the last 273 days, and there are, statistically, just as many people living the best day of their life every single day.
As Christophe figures it, this loop is morally neutral. And if he wakes up on April 8th tomorrow, there is no one he’s doomed, and there is no one he’s saved.
When there is nothing more to be said about Ethel, Christophe asks about Boki. Lucinda lights up, and she fumbles for her phone, squinting at its screen. “I have pictures. Oh I have so many pictures.” Lucinda turns the phone to Christophe. He sweeps until the 19th photo, and pauses there.
“What sort of feeder is this? It looks fancy. Nothing like what Pickle had when I was growing up.” It’s just an automatic feeder, but Lucinda loves the suggestion that it’s fancy. She explains it as if Christophe is learning about electronics for the first time, and it pads time.
Christophe has made sure to clear his plate while Lucinda talks. He does not reach for seconds on anything. He needs a clear path to excuse himself from the table, because he knows what Lucinda will bring up next, like he knows the bird notes before they sing.
“I did want to tell you something else, Madeline. And I didn’t want to just ‘text’ it to you, okay? I need you to see my face so you know I’m upset too and so you don’t accuse me of mean and hateful things.”
Christophe has no reaction. He sees the confusion, and the fear taking over Madeline’s face.
“John and I are getting a divorce.”
Madeline’s face is fully white. “Mom, no…”
John is not Madeline’s biological father. Her bio dad left when she was three. Christophe shouldn’t even know his name, but he blundered in comforting her one of these loops and she spat it like a curse.
There is John instead. John who came into Madeline’s life when she was four and treated her like his daughter ever since. John who married Madeline’s mother a year later and who’d been Madeline’s dad ever since. John, who had no blood tie nor name tie to Madeline, and who is about to lose his legal tie as well.
“Mom, you said you were doing therapy,” Madeline always says, whenever Christophe gets this far.
“I am! And I’ve realized that I deserve better than what John is doing to me.”
“Better than John? You deserve better than John, Mom?”
“Madeline this is MY life. Do not do this thing you do where you try to make it ALL about how hurt you are.”
The optimal thing for Christophe to say is nothing, he thinks. The optimal thing to do right now is nothing, he thinks. He guesses, as best he can guess. He doesn’t always get this far. He hasn’t had the chance to try as many things as he’s been able to try with Beatrice, and Bruce, and Amanda. But when he has tried to speak, it doesn’t work. Maybe, optimally, Christophe shouldn’t be here, but Lucinda forces it every time.
He lets Madeline speak. He lets Lucinda respond. He fades into a wallflower, until Madeline slams her chair back and throws her napkin down and says, “I think you should go home, Mom.” He lets her storm into the living room, and he gives a performative glance to Lucinda. She’s not really his concern anymore. Lucinda always leaves right after this.
Christophe stands at the doorway of the living room, which has gone dark since the sun set. Madeline is sobbing quietly on the couch, one pillow pulled into her lap. Christophe can’t see it, but she always has it. He knows it’s there.
He enters, and he sits on the couch with her, and he holds her gently.
He does not know the optimal thing to say.
He’s tried many things. But he says things that are insensitive, or too sensitive, or too optimistic, or too pessimistic. He says things that he has no business saying. He says hollow things. He says things that are too mean to Lucinda, or too apologetic to John.
So every day, he tries to say something new.
The darkness is resting on Christophe’s eyes. He’s staring into the darkness of the livingroom. There are plates of tacos in the dining room. There is unfinished guacamole going brown in Madeline’s favorite bowl.
“That won’t be us,” Christophe says, for the first time.
The pattern of Madeline’s crying breaks. He holds his breath, filing away yet another wrong response, when Madeline reaches her arms out and wraps him tight. She’s crying into her shoulder, but the tensing of her fingers against his ribs is so tender.
“I won’t ever do that to you,” she says into his work shirt. “I love you. Thank you for being here. Thank you. I love you.”
He rubs her back, and his heart is beating faster than it’s beat in 100 loops.
“I love you too,” he says, and it’s optimal.
Christophe washes plates. He packs away leftovers. He listens to the shhhh of the kitchen faucet nozzle as it blasts the sink basin and gurgles away down the drain.
The cicadas chirp outside. He doesn’t know this rhythm.
Christophe showers. He gets in bed. Madeline hugs his arm. He stares at the ceiling, and it is 9:00pm for the first time in the last 274 days.
… ... ...
274 days ago, Christophe woke up on April 7th for the first time .
He checked his phone. He read the text from his mom asking for money, and he read the text from his dad telling him to ignore his mom. He checked the weather. He got out of bed and carried himself down the stairs at 7:03.
Madeline was standing at the counter, hunched over a coffee pot huffing fragrant steam up to the ceiling. She caught him from the corner of her eye, and with a sort of veiled resentment Christophe recognized, she poured the first cup and handed it to him.
“My mom wants to come over for dinner tonight. Kinda late notice but is that okay?”
“Why?” Christophe answered, the word bubbling from the knee-jerk disdain pulling down on his rib cage. Madeline poured the second cup of coffee for herself. “We had her over last week.”
“I don’t know. But she wants to come over,” Madeline answered defensively. She pulled open the dishwasher, stacking plates with a clack, clack, clack.
“We don’t have enough fish.”
“We can just make tacos.”
“We had tacos last week.”
“Fine,” Madeline said, turning back around and leaving the dishwasher half-unloaded. “I’ll tell her no.”
“Come on,” Christophe said. “Don’t say that like I’m being unreasonable.”
“No no, I’ll just tell her no.”
“She’s just… a lot. Come on.”
“You don’t think I know that? I grew up with her.”
“Don’t talk like I’m the bad guy here.”
“Oh, you learned her favorite sentence.”
Christophe’s hands tensed against the hot porcelain of his mug. He had too many words that wanted to pour of out his lips. “You think you’re the only one who grew up with a difficult mom?” “You don’t see me subjecting YOU to MY mom.” “What about maybe a ‘Thank you, Honey, for putting up with my Mom who we both know is a lot.’”
None of those made it into the air. His whole line of thought was ground to a sudden halt by the SLAM-RRCH outside.
“Christ!” Maddie exclaimed, words drowned under the WHEEP WHEEP WHEEP woo woo woo.
Christophe moved with momentum, with adrenaline. He slammed open their unit door and rounded the hall with bare feet (“Hush, Bucky.”)
Outside, some woman was standing just outside her car, lipstick smeared across her cheek and holding her hands against either side of her head.
“What did you DO?” Christophe snapped, all but shoving her out of the way while his heart raced and he investigated the dent in his fender.
“I don’t know!! I didn’t see it! I didn’t see it!” the woman echoed in hysterics. She blinked tears that smeared down her mascara. “Let me call Mikey! He’ll know what to do!”
“Don’t call anyone, Christ. I have to leave for work soon! Just get your insurance documents out of your car, …Fucking Christ.”
The woman stood motionless. She’d been shocked quiet, but still blubbered mutely while the tears fell from her mascara. Great. Great. Another person making Christophe into the bad guy. He rubbed his finger over the red paint scratched into his fender, and he let out a noise that got Bucky barking again.
Christophe took his seat at the office, slinking in fifteen minutes late with the mantra-like hope that Bruce hadn’t seen him come in late. It wasn’t his fault his idiot neighbor had scraped his car. It wasn’t his fault that Summer Street was backed up all the way to Oak Road, which he’d screamed himself hoarse about in the car, leaning on his horn all the while.
“Your mom can come over for dinner. It’s fine,” Christophe texted to Madeline. He entertained the hope that it didn’t come across passive-aggressive, but he also couldn’t find the will to include a heart-emoji or an “I love you” that might have softened the tone.
“Okay. Thanks,” she answered.
Christophe’s blood boiled all over. He read emails and re-read them, again and again, because their contents would not stick in his mind.
“Mahone, Charles, Kim, my office. Now.”
Christophe snapped upright, heart stirred to a frenzy for the too-many’th time today. The ice trickle down his spine said “Fuck, you are in trouble for getting in late.” But the inclusion of Frankie and Arnold did not make sense for that. The realization sat like a brick in his stomach while he rose, and met eyes with Frankie and Arnold, and followed Bruce into his office.
Bruce was wearing an ugly olive green shirt with an uglier plum tie when he closed the office door behind them all, and his face was an even uglier scarlet.
“Can any of you three… fucking explain to me, why this email was in my inbox this morning?” Bruce shifted into theatrics, reading each scathing note with a pizzazz solely for the purpose of getting under Christophe’s skin, Christophe was sure. Arnold and Frankie seemed to wince in unison with each lunge Bruce made, but Christophe refused to break posture.
“So tell me, Mahone, how does this happen?”
“You should ask Kim,” Christophe said. Frankie winced again, and it made Christophe madder the way his mind likened Frankie to a scolded dog. “He was the one handling the client.”
“No, I am asking you, Mahone. This is your team. Do not make excuses and do not shift blame. That’s what a weak man does.”
(“Then explain what exactly you’re doing right now.”) Christophe thought to himself. But he did not say it out loud, because he too was a scolded dog.
Christophe muttered a curse through each blocking cart and each clueless shopper blocking his path. He got avocadoes, and later doubled-back for the onion, and then doubled-back again for the limes. The chips were in the wrong aisle, because some stupid fucking store manager had decided to move everything again. Christophe forgot the jalapenos.
“Ah, he’s back. Finally,” Madeline’s mother Lucinda said the moment Christophe opened the front door. She leered over her glass of whisky, which immediately set fire to Christophe’s ever-simmering disdain for her.
“I came from work, Lucinda. Because I have a job,” Christophe bit back.
“You people always have excuses,” and it is one ‘you people’ too many, so Christophe set the grocery bag down and disappeared into the living room to throw himself on the couch.
“Mom do not speak to him that way,” Madeline said.
“Well did you see the way he talked to me? Called me jobless.”
“Mom, we’re not doing this.”
“You always want to make me the bad guy.”
Twenty minutes passed, with the living room growing dark around Christophe while he seethed into his phone. He marinated in his spite. There was no reason to make him share a room with Lucinda, in his own apartment. It was his, after all. Madeline moved into his apartment.
Soft footsteps broke his train of thought. Someone stood blocking the bit of light leaking in from the dining room.
“Christophe, hey… That was really out of line of my mom. Sorry.”
“You think?” Christophe answered.
“She’s miserable, and she needs to make everyone else miserable.”
“She does not ‘need’ to. She chooses to. And you let her.”
“I don’t ‘let’ her, Christophe. Don’t make her actions my fault.”
“Her being here is your fault.”
“She…” Madeline breathed hard out of her nose, and she lowered her voice. “She insisted on it. Absolutely insisted.”
“My mom insists I send her money. I just don’t.”
“It’s different.”
Christophe let out a little snort. He let the silence linger.
“…Look, I’ll say thank you once she’s gone, okay. A really really big thank you. I’ll make you any dinner you want this weekend, as a thank you. Okay? Because… she’s a lot. I know she’s a lot. So… thank you.”
The anger boiling in Christophe ebbed a fraction, and he almost resented this more, because this whole day was so much easier if he let himself fester in it.
“Ethel’s cancer is back. Poor girl. Lopped off both her breasts already. What more can you do?”
“Oh no… Mom, that’s horrible.”
Christophe dipped his chips in the guacamole without jalapeno. He did his best to avoid looking at Lucinda without making it obvious he was avoiding her. He tuned in only long enough to hear ‘cancer’, and tuned back out when he was sure Ethel was no one he knew.
Ethel as a topic stuck. Lucinda seemed to revel in it, in that way she loved, to bring up something horrific and make it everyone else’s burden to indulge her on it. It sickened Christophe, the way she seemed to light up at every opportunity to tell you something horrible.
“Ethel has honestly made me realize something. And it’s that life is short. And one day you’re gonna wake up with breast cancer, thinking to yourself, ‘Why’d I waste all this life?’” Lucinda stuffed another bite of taco in her face. Through her food she spoke. “So I wanted to tell you this myself, Maddie. And I didn’t want to just ‘text’ it to you, okay? I need you to see my face so you know I’m upset too and so you don’t accuse me of mean and hateful things.”
Christophe stiffened, angry before he even knew what he was angry about, just certain of the fact that Lucinda was about to make something worse for him than it already was.
“John and I are getting a divorce.”
Madeline’s face was fully white. “Mom, no… Mom, you said you were doing therapy.”
“I am! And I’ve realized that I deserve better than what John is doing to me.”
“Better than John? You deserve better than John, Mom?”
“Madeline this is MY life. Do not do this thing you do where you try to make it ALL about how hurt you are.”
“Shut up! Jesus fucking Christ!” Christophe slammed his fork down. “Is this all you do? Show up to make everyone miserable? Come here to make Madeline cry?”
“Christophe, don’t," Madeline whispered.
“She’s a miserable fucking bat and she’s doing this to cause drama. What a happy day for John to finally be fucking rid of you!!” Christophe turned to Lucinda, his eyes wild, and he broke into emphatic applause. And each clap was for his mom. For his dad. For the woman who hit his car. For Bruce. For the morning traffic. For the brainless idiot blocking the limes in the grocery store. “YAY JOHN! YAY JOHN! FREE OF HIS FUCKING SHACKLES!! HOORAY JOHN!!”
And in front of him, Lucinda crumbled. Into sobs. Into hysterics that seized her whole body and shook it. Blubbering, to the point of wailing. She kicked her chair back, and on unsteady feet she rounded out of the dining room.
“Mom! Mom, come back. Christophe did NOT mean that.” Madeline gave him one scathing look before disappearing after her mother, the front door to the unit opening and clicking shut. Feet on the stairs. Below them, Bucky bellowed woo woo woo.
And then it was quiet.
And then Christophe was alone.
With all the makings of tacos scattered around him, with guacamole going brown in a too-small bowl, Christophe was entirely alone.
Alone, he sat. Alone, he thought. Alone, his righteous anger slipped away from him like the tide. He felt naked and cold as it left him. He felt his cheeks burn. He felt his own self-loathing nestle into the shape of where his anger used to be.
He spat a curse. He spat another. He stood. He kicked a chair. He shoved the table, unseating one glass of water which toppled and spilled its stream in a ppttititktikt to the floor. He grabbed his head like the woman who hit his car, and he dropped to a hunch.
And when staying like this felt unreasonable, Christophe unfolded himself. He rubbed his eyes. He stacked dishes, and popped Tupperware containers, and scrubbed down the counter, and set the dishwasher to its 4-hour delay.
He showered. He got in bed alone. He stewed on every kind of apology he thought of texting Madeline, but his pride burned against each one. He stewed until his phone buzzed, and some sick part of him held the hope that maybe it was an apology from Madeline.
“I don’t think this is the relationship I want. I’ll be by tomorrow morning to get my things.”
“…Fuck.” Christophe slammed his phone down. “Fuck!” He grabbed his phone back and he sat up, and with all the force he could muster he pitched it against the hardwood floor. Its case exploded off, screen shattering to magnificent spiderwebs. Tinkling bits of glass and plastic scattered unseen across the floor.
Christophe was breathing hard. He was seized by the absolute sheer unfairness of everything. He wanted a do over. He wanted a different today. He wanted one more chance to not let everything go to absolute shit.
Christophe woke up on April 7th for the second time.
… ... ...
It is 9:10pm on the 274th day of April 7th, and Madeline has fallen asleep against Christophe’s arm.
And this is optimal, surely.
He’d said the right thing. Hadn’t made it about Madeline’s parents or his own. Was it always that simple? That she wanted assurance she wasn’t going to end up like John. “That won’t be us.” That was all?
Christophe should be happy.
He did it right, finally.
This is the escape criteria, surely.
Well, "surely" is a silly word for Christophe to use. As if the criteria were ever a mystery. As is he himself hadn't been activating the loop every single time.
April 7th would last exactly as long as he decided to make it last. That had been the case since his very first loop.
He's found "optimal." He has a reason, finally, to stop activating the loop. He can stop making today perfect. He can let tomorrow be April 8th, for the first time.
And it is about time, isn’t it? To let those babies be born. To let those people die. To let the people having the worst day of their lives and the best day of their lives finally move on to just another day.
He’s been feeling guilty about it lately, every time he feels the day hasn’t been optimal, and he made the choice to activate that power that sprung up like a wellspring inside him while he’d screamed and smashed his phone on the ground.
Tomorrow is April 8th.
Tomorrow everything moves forward.
Christophe’s palms are clammy.
He thinks about waking up at a time he doesn’t know tomorrow. He thinks about birds singing to a tune he cannot already hear like a rehearsal in his head.
He thinks of everything Madeline might say, and he grows colder at the idea he won’t know what to say back.
He thinks about starting fresh, with a whole unoptimized day ahead of him.
It makes him cold. With Madeline snugged tight against him, Christophe feels so cold.
Christophe wakes up the next morning to an empty bed. He checks his phone, checks his text messages, checks the weather. He gets out of bed, and he heads down the stairs to the smell of brewed coffee.
“Morning,” he says, planting a kiss on Madeline’s head. She looks up from the dishwasher long enough to give him a “Morning,” back. Christophe pours his own cup of coffee.
“Oh,” Madeline says. “My mom wants to come over for dinner tonight. Kinda late notice but is that okay?” she always asks.
“Yeah, sure,” Christophe answers warmly, feeling like he’s fallen in love with life all over. “I hope she’s got more stories about Boki.”

The Danger Room was quieter than usual, with most of the team taking the rare free evening to relax or catch up on personal projects. Logan had been in there for a while, his gruff voice occasionally echoing out as he muttered to himself between sessions. The clang of metal on metal and the occasional snarl punctuated the stillness, but it wasn’t long before he stepped out, towel slung over his shoulder and a half-empty bottle of water in hand.
You were walking down the hall, carrying a box of supplies Hank had asked you to grab from the storage room. The box wasn’t heavy, but it was awkward, making it hard to see where you were going. You nearly bumped into Logan as he came around the corner.
“Whoa, easy there,” he said, steadying the box with one hand before it could topple.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, shifting it to your hip to get a better grip. “Hank needed these for his lab. Guess I should’ve watched where I was going.”
Logan smirked, leaning casually against the wall. “You’re always doin’ stuff for people, huh? Gotta learn to say no once in a while.”
“It’s fine,” you replied quickly. “It’s not a big deal.”
“Hmm,” Logan said, his tone somewhere between a grunt and genuine amusement. He stepped back to let you pass. “Well, don’t let McCoy bury ya in work. You’ve got your own stuff to handle too, y’know.”
You smiled faintly. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Logan watched as you disappeared around the corner, his brow furrowing slightly before he shook his head and headed off toward the kitchen. He wasn’t one to meddle in other people’s lives, but something about you always made him pay a little more attention.
---
“Hey, would you mind making 50 copies of this? I need it for my class in 2 hours but I have a meeting with the Professor.” Jean said, holding a single piece of paper, some activity for her class.
Even though you were cleaning the kitchen because Scott asked you to, and you had to fix the sprinkler system since Ororo couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it, you obliged. “Yeah, sure!” you replied, taking off your gloves you were using to clean to grab the paper from Jean to put in your small tote for later.
It was later in the evening when you finally got a moment to yourself. The mansion had settled into its usual rhythm of quiet chaos, and you found yourself in the rec room, curled up on one of the oversized chairs with a book. The soft hum of conversation and distant clatter of dishes in the kitchen made the space feel alive but not overwhelming.
Logan walked in, towel around his neck and hair damp from a shower. He gave you a quick nod before heading to the fridge to grab a beer. As he twisted off the cap, he turned to you, leaning back against the counter.
“You’re always workin’, doll. Don’t you ever sit down and let someone else handle it?”
You looked up from your book, smiling faintly. “I’m sitting now, aren’t I?”
He chuckled, taking a swig of his beer before sauntering over to the chair opposite you. “Guess that counts. What’re you readin’?”
You held up the book to show the cover. “Just something light. Needed a break.”
Logan raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical but not unkind. “You? Takin’ a break? That’s a first.”
“It happens,” you teased, marking your page and setting the book down on the armrest. “What about you? You’re always either in the Danger Room or off somewhere on your bike.”
“Gotta keep busy,” he said with a shrug. “Helps keep my head straight.”
You nodded, understanding the unspoken weight behind his words. Logan wasn’t one to open up easily, but you’d learned to read between the lines.
“Fair enough. I guess we’re both bad at just sitting still,” you said.
He smirked. “Yeah, but at least I don’t let people walk all over me while I’m at it.”
You rolled your eyes playfully. “Here we go.”
“I’m just sayin’, sweetheart. You’ve got a good heart, but it’s okay to say no once in a while.” His tone was softer this time, less teasing and more genuine.
You looked down, fiddling with the edge of your book. “I don’t mind helping. Besides, it’s not like I’ve got anything else pressing to do.”
Logan leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees as he looked at you. “That’s not the point. You deserve time for yourself, too. Don’t let these jokers make you forget that.”
You smiled, a warmth blooming in your chest at his concern. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
“You better,” he said, leaning back again and taking another sip of his beer. “‘Cause if I catch you runnin’ yourself ragged again, I might just have to step in.”
“Oh, really? And what would that look like?” you asked, amused.
“Let’s just say it’d involve you sittin’ in that chair for more than five minutes without someone askin’ you to fix somethin’.”
You laughed, the sound light and genuine. “Alright, deal. But only if you promise to do the same.”
He raised his beer in a mock toast. “Deal, doll.”
For a moment, the two of you sat in companionable silence, the noise of the mansion fading into the background. Logan’s presence was steady, grounding in a way you hadn’t quite expected when you first met him. It wasn’t hard to see why you’d grown to like him so much—even if he didn’t realize it.
As you picked up your book again, you caught him watching you out of the corner of your eye. When your eyes met, he just smirked and shook his head, muttering something under his breath before finishing his beer and heading out. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself, the moment lingering long after he was gone.
---
You and Ororo were making dinner, her stirring food on the stove while you cut up chicken at the counter. The kitchen smelled warm and inviting, the quiet hum of activity making it a relaxing space to chat.
“You’ve been spending a lot of time with Logan lately,” Ororo said, her tone light but curious.
You paused mid-slice, glancing at her with a small smile. “He’s been around, yeah. We just… talk sometimes.”
“Mmhmm,” she replied, stirring the pot without looking at you. “And you don’t think that means something?”
You shook your head, laughing softly. “No, Ro. Logan talks to everyone—well, kind of. It’s not like I’m special or anything.”
She turned to look at you, raising an eyebrow. “Are you sure about that? Because the way he looks at you sometimes…”
“What way?” you asked, feeling a warmth creep into your cheeks.
Ororo set down her spoon and crossed her arms, leaning back against the counter. “Like you’re the only person in the room. Like he actually wants to be around you—which, let’s be honest, is rare for Logan.”
You snorted, trying to brush off the comment. “He’s just… nice to me, that’s all. He probably feels sorry for me because I’m always running around doing things for everyone.”
“Nice? Logan?” Ororo gave you a pointed look. “That man growls at people for breathing wrong. He’s not just ‘nice.’”
You opened your mouth to respond, but the words caught in your throat. Could she be right? You’d always thought Logan’s kindness was just him looking out for you the way he did for everyone on the team, even if it seemed a little… different sometimes.
“Even if you’re right,” you said finally, “I don’t think he thinks about me like that. I’m not exactly his type.”
Ororo frowned, clearly unimpressed. “And what makes you think you’re not his type?”
You gestured to yourself vaguely. “Come on, ‘Ro. He’s this tough, no-nonsense guy, and I’m—”
“Amazing,” Ororo interrupted firmly. “You’re amazing. And if Logan doesn’t see that, then he’s a fool. But from where I’m standing, it seems like he does.”
You sighed, setting down the knife and leaning your elbows on the counter. “I don’t know. I just… I don’t want to make things awkward, you know? If I say something and I’m wrong, it could mess everything up.”
Ororo placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. “I get it. But sometimes, you’ve got to take a leap of faith. You deserve to be happy, and if Logan makes you happy, it’s worth the risk.”
Unbeknownst to either of you, Logan had wandered into the hall just in time to catch the tail end of the conversation. He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, his brow furrowed as he listened.
“I’ll think about it,” you said softly, returning to the chicken.
“You do that,” Ororo said with a knowing smile, turning back to the stove.
Logan cleared his throat as he stepped into the kitchen, startling both of you. “Smells good in here.”
“Oh!” You nearly dropped the knife, your heart racing. “Hey, Logan. Didn’t hear you come in.”
“Didn’t mean to sneak up on ya,” he said, his tone casual. His eyes lingered on you for a moment before flicking to Ororo. “You got room for one more?”
Ororo smirked, glancing between you and Logan. “Always. But only if you’re willing to set the table.”
Logan chuckled. “Fair enough.” He grabbed some plates from the cupboard, his movements unhurried but purposeful.
You tried to focus on the chicken, but your hands felt clumsier than usual under his gaze. Ororo shot you a sly look before turning her attention back to dinner, leaving you and Logan to fall into an easy, if slightly charged, silence.
---
Logan, for the first time in a long time, was clueless about what to do. He almost felt like a teenager, walking around with a secretperhaps not-so-secret—crush.
To make matters worse, in the following days when he thought he had gathered himself to tell you how he felt, you flashed him a smile and all his previous thoughts went out the window. Logan found himself retreating to the Danger Room more often, grumbling under his breath about how he wasn’t built for this kind of thing.
One evening, after a particularly long day of running errands and fixing half the mansion’s quirks, you were in the rec room folding towels that had piled up in the laundry. Logan walked in, pausing in the doorway when he saw you. He frowned, his grip tightening around the beer in his hand.
“You’re kiddin’ me. Again?”
You looked up, startled. “What?”
“That,” he said, gesturing to the stack of towels. “You’re always doin’ somethin’ for everyone else.”
“It’s not a big deal,” you said, shrugging. “It needed to get done.”
Logan let out a low growl of frustration and set his beer down on the coffee table. He crossed the room in a few strides and grabbed the towel you were folding out of your hands, tossing it onto the pile. “Enough.”
“Logan, what are you doing?” you asked, startled.
“Savin’ you from yourself,” he replied, his tone firm but not unkind. “Sit.”
You blinked at him, caught off guard by the sudden intensity. “What?”
“I said sit, doll,” he repeated, pointing to the couch. “You’re takin’ a break whether you like it or not.”
Reluctantly, you sank onto the couch, watching as he grabbed a towel and started folding it himself. “You don’t have to do that,” you said.
“Yeah, well, neither do you,” he shot back, not looking at you.
You crossed your arms, feeling both touched and mildly annoyed. “I don’t see what the big deal is. I like helping.”
“You like helpin’ so much you forget to take care of yourself,” he muttered, finishing one towel and moving onto the next.
“That’s not true,” you protested.
Logan finally looked at you, his hazel eyes piercing. “Yeah, it is. You’re runnin’ yourself into the ground, sweetheart. And for what? So McCoy doesn’t have to walk ten feet to grab his own damn supplies?”
You opened your mouth to argue but stopped. He wasn’t entirely wrong. “It’s just… easier to say yes than to make a fuss,” you admitted.
“Easier for them,” he countered. “Not for you.”
You sighed, sinking further into the couch. “Why do you care so much?”
Logan’s hands stilled, and for a moment, he didn’t answer. Then he set the towel down and turned to face you fully, his expression unreadable. “Because I like you, that’s why.”
Your breath hitched. “What?”
“You heard me,” he said, his voice quieter now but no less firm. “I like you. And it drives me nuts watchin’ you run yourself ragged for people who don’t appreciate it.”
You stared at him, your mind racing. “Logan…”
“Look, I ain’t good at this kinda thing,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “But I know what I feel. And what I feel is that you deserve better than this.”
You felt a warmth rise in your chest, a mix of disbelief and something else—hope. “I didn’t think… I mean, I thought you just saw me as some pushover,” you admitted.
He snorted. “A pushover? Nah. You’re tougher than you give yourself credit for. But that doesn’t mean you gotta carry everyone else’s weight all the time.”
You bit your lip, unsure of what to say. Logan took a step closer, crouching down in front of you so you were eye level. “You don’t gotta say anything, doll. Just… promise me you’ll start puttin’ yourself first for once.”
You nodded slowly. “Okay. I’ll try.”
He gave you a small smile, one that made your heart flutter. “Good.”
Before you could overthink it, you leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. Logan froze, his eyes widening slightly as he looked at you. “What was that for?”
You shrugged, feeling bold for the first time. “For caring.”
A slow grin spread across his face, and before you knew it, he was leaning in, his hand coming up to cup your cheek as he kissed you—gentle at first, then deeper, more sure. When he finally pulled back, you were both breathless.
“That… was overdue,” he said, his voice low and a little rough.
You laughed softly. “Yeah, maybe a little.”
Logan smirked, his thumb brushing over your cheek. “Guess I’ll have to stick around more. Make sure you’re takin’ those breaks.”
“Oh, is that what this is about?” you teased.
“Part of it,” he said with a wink. “The other part… well, we’ll figure it out.”
And for once, you let yourself believe that maybe, just maybe, you deserved to be taken care of too.

October Rain
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Will Lenney x Fem!Reader
Summary: Will forgets his two-year anniversary with the Reader Warnings: Sad then cheesy as FUCK Notes: Based on this ask! I got carried away on this one...Kinda has more angst than fluff I think, but I hope the end was fluffy enough. Reader is described to be wearing makeup and have hair that has their orignal roots peeking through (beiefly)
Tumblr media
You spend an hour picking out the dress.
It’s ridiculous, really—the closet yawns like a wound afterward, half your wardrobe strewn across the bed. Too formal, you’d hissed at the emerald gown. Too casual, you’d spat at the sundress, though summer died weeks ago. The silk slip you settle on is the colour of champagne, the one Will once said made you look like “a sunrise with legs”. You spin in front of the mirror, fabric swirling, and pretend the heat in your cheeks is from the hairdryer.
The bathroom sink becomes a warzone. Eyeliner wings sharp enough to draw blood. Blush blended to that “just-fucked” glow he’d teased you about last anniversary. You spritz the vanilla perfume he buys you every Christmas—‘So I can find you in a crowd,’ he’d said. Your phone buzzes on the counter.
A text from Will:
Will (7:43 PM): Emergency reshoot. Might be 20 mins late. Don’t eat my breadsticks, thief
You roll your eyes, smiling. Typical Will. You text back:
You (7:43 PM): If you’re late, I’m ordering TWO desserts. And I’ll tell the waiter you stood me up
You leave a note on the fridge in your loopy script—“Gone to claim my free pity cake. Catch up, slowpoke.” — And double-checked the contents of your clutch. Inside rests a small box with a silver ring, its band etched with tiny stars circling a moonstone—a mirror of the one you wear on your right hand. Under the stone was an engraving of the date of your first kiss hidden in tiny numerals.
Tumblr media
Rain whispers against the windows as you step outside, but you don’t mind. You imagine his face when he opens the box, the way he’ll fumble trying to slide it onto his finger mid-sentence, his laugh warm and sheepish as he says, ‘Should’ve known you’d out-romance me.’
The cab driver eyes you in the rearview. “Big date?”
“The biggest,” you say, thumb rubbing the moonstone. Two years. Two years of his chaotic schedules and your terrible puns, of long sleepless nights and his hands steadying yours when you cried during sad movies.
Tumblr media
The hostess leads you to the corner table, its surface gleaming under a halo of candlelight. Rain ticks softly against the windows, a muted rhythm beneath the murmur of violins and clinking crystal. You smooth your dress as you sit, the silk whispering against your thighs, and immediately reach to straighten the centrepiece—a single tulip, its petals curled at the edges like parchment. Wilted, you note, but it feels fitting. Romantic, in a vintage way.
You tug the tablecloth taut erasing imaginary wrinkles. The waiter materialises, his voice a velvet hum. “A drink to start while you wait?”
“A glass of Maker’s Mark and a Cabernet, please,” you say, fingertips drumming the menu. The waiter’s gaze flicks to the empty chair, then back to you. He nods, vanishing into the amber-lit haze of the restaurant.
When he returns, the whisky glows like molten gold in its glass, the Cabernet a deep ruby beside it. You take a sip of wine, the tannins bitter-sweet, and blurt, “Could we also start with the breadsticks? And—do you have any recommendations for the main course? We’re… celebrating.”
The waiter’s smile softens. “Anniversary?”
You nod, thumb brushing the moonstone on your ring. “Two years.”
“Congratulations,” he says, and you swear his tone dips. “The duck confit is exceptional. Crisp skin, pomegranate glaze. A favourite for… special occasions.”
“Perfect,” you say, voice bright as the candle flame. “And the breadsticks, please.”
They arrive warm, dusted with rosemary and sea salt. You pluck one, the crust crackling under your touch, and set it on Will’s bread plate. His ritual: stealing bites before the meal, grinning with a mouthful of carbs. The butter dish sits unopened—he’d argue it’s “sacrilege” to ruin good bread.
The waiter lingers. “Shall I wait to bring the duck?”
“Please wait a bit more.” You clear your throat. “He’ll be here any minute.”
He nods and walks off.
The couple beside you leans into a kiss, their shadows merging on the wall. You look away, smiling. That’ll be us in ten minutes, you think, adjusting the tulip one more time.
8:03 PM.
The ice cubes crackle in his untouched drink. You text him:
You (8:03 PM): Breadsticks are going quick. Hurry!
Outside, the rain thickens.
The restaurant’s candlelight pools like liquid gold on the tablecloth, but it can’t warm the chill creeping up your spine. Rain blurs the world beyond the glass into a smudge of greys and blues, and you fixate on it to avoid staring at the empty chair. Will’s whisky glints amber under the flickering flame, ice long melted, the glass sweating like your palms.
8:17 PM.
Your phone screen dims again. You tap it awake, thumb hovering over the latest text—sent seven minutes ago, still unanswered. The waiter glides over, his voice a gentle ripple in the silence. “Can I bring you anything else while you wait?”
You force a smile, brittle as the sugar crust on the crème brûlée at the next table. “Just the duck confit, please. And another Cabernet.” The please cracks, but he nods, retreating with a discretion that feels like mercy.
The duck arrives, its pomegranate glaze glistening. You slice into it with surgical precision, the knife barely whispering against the plate. Last year, Will stole a bite off your fork, grinning as juice dripped down his chin. Now, you chew slowly, each swallow a battle. The couple beside you clinks champagne flutes, their laughter a bright, foreign language. You glance at Will’s whisky, then slide it toward yourself, the glass leaving a damp ring on the linen. The first sip burns; the second tastes like regret.
9:03 PM.
The candle drowns in wax, its flame shrinking to a pitiful flame. A tulip petal drifts onto Will’s unused bread plate. You pluck it gently, its edges browning like a forgotten letter, and tuck it into your clutch beside the velvet box. The moonstone ring on your finger feels heavier now.
The waiter hesitates, his polished shoes shifting slightly against the hardwood floor. His fingers, long and graceful from years of balancing trays, hover near the table’s edge as if unsure whether to reach out or retreat. His gaze lingers on the empty glass of whisky.
“Dessert, perhaps?” He offers again, voice low, careful. “The chocolate torte is—”
You press your lips together, forcing a small, polite smile. “No, thank you,” you murmur, softer than you intended. Your fingers, stiff from clutching the sweating wine glass, fumble for your wallet. “Could I just have the receipt, please?”
He hesitates, then nods, pulling the leather folio from his apron. You pretend not to notice the way his brow furrows—the unspoken Are you sure? in the slight tilt of his head.
You open the bill, scanning the numbers without really seeing them. The candlelight flickers, casting wavering shadows over the ink. Duck confit. Cabernet Sauvignon. Breadsticks (2 orders). A bitter laugh threatens to rise in your throat—two orders, because you’d been so sure Will would devour them the second he arrived.
He watches, silent, as you count out the bills. Your hands don’t shake—not visibly, at least—but the edges of the notes crumple slightly under your grip. When you slide them across the table, he takes them with a practised nod, but then hesitates, thumbing through the stack.
“This is too much,” he says gently, extracting a few bills to return.
You shake your head, eyes fixed somewhere past his shoulder, where the candlelight catches the rain-streaked window. “Keep it. For the… the trouble.” The last word splinters, but you don’t let it crack further.
His mouth opens—maybe to protest, maybe to offer some other kindness—but you’re already standing, smoothing the ruined silk of your dress like it still matters.
At the door, the hostess—her delicate silver name tag glinting, Sophie—catches your arm with a touch so light it’s almost imperceptible. The warmth of her fingers is startling against your chilled skin.
“The rain’s gotten worse,” she says, her voice threaded with something that isn’t pity, but close. “Let me call you a cab.”
You turn your face just enough to meet her eyes, another practiced smile in place. “I’m alright, thank you.” Your voice is steady and pleasant, the same tone you’d use to decline an extra napkin. “Have a good night.”
You don’t wait for her reply. The door swings open, and the storm greets you like an old enemy—immediate, unrelenting. The silk dress, already ruined, clings to your skin as the rain seeps deeper, turning the fabric into a second, heavier skin. The cold is sharp, but you don’t shudder. You walk. One step, then another.
Behind you, the restaurant glows—golden, warm, a world still spinning without you in it. The violins hum on, the clink of glasses muffled by the downpour. Somewhere inside, the waiter is clearing the table, folding the unused napkin, and wiping away the water ring left by what should have been Will’s drink.
You walk faster.
The rain tastes like salt.
Tumblr media
The tube station swallows you whole, its fluorescent lights flickering like a dying heartbeat. Rain cascades down the steps, turning the floor into a mirrored maze. Your heels—strappy, delicate, stupid—stab into the tile with every step, blisters gnawing at your skin. The silk dress clings to your legs, its champagne hue now muddied to dishwater grey. You don’t flinch. Let the pain root you. Let it be real.
A digital board flickers: CIRCLE LINE DELAYED – 22 MINUTES. Commuters sigh, their breath fogging the air. You sink onto a cold metal bench, mascara bleeding down your cheeks in charcoal streaks. The moonstone ring on your finger feels like a lie. You twist it off, the silver band catching the light one last time before you bury it in your clutch beside the velvet box.
An old man lowers himself beside you, his trench coat smelling of mothballs and Earl Grey. His face is a map of wrinkles, eyes milky at the edges but kind. His hands, speckled with age spots, grip a weathered umbrella. “Nasty night,” he rasps, nodding at the storm outside.
You nod back, silent.
He thrusts a weathered umbrella toward you, its handle carved with faded floral patterns. “Take it, lass. You’ll catch your death.”
“I’m alright, thank you,” you say, voice fraying at the edges. Polite. Always polite.
He hesitates, squinting at your trembling hands. “Sure?”
“Yes.” The word cracks. You turn away, staring at the tracks until his shuffling footsteps fade.
The train arrives fifty minutes late, its doors wheezing open. You board, heels slipping on the grimy floor. A toddler points at your drowned-rat elegance, giggling. Rain drips from your hem, forming a puddle at your feet.
At your stop, you limp up the stairs. The storm hasn’t relented—it thrives, needling your skin, soaking through the clutch pressed to your chest. Let the rain scald. Let it strip you raw. Your heels click defiantly, blisters splitting open, blood mingling with rainwater. You don’t slow. The pain is an anchor. The pain is true.
Let it drown out the memory of Will’s empty chair.
The automatic doors shudder open with a sound like a dying breath, spilling you into the lobby’s arctic chill. Air conditioning razors down your rain-raw skin, and your dress—once liquid silk, now a translucent shroud—clings to every curve, the fabric plastered to your thighs like wet tissue paper. Water sluices from your hem, squelching against polished marble as you walk.
Dave, the night guard, freezes mid-yawn. His eyes dart from your bare shoulders to the puddle spreading at your feet, his Adam’s apple bobbing as if swallowing a scream. “Ev-evening, miss,” he stammers, fingers spasming over his keyboard like he’s forgotten how to type.
You smile. Polished. Automatic. The kind you’d give a stranger. “Evening, Dave.” Your voice doesn’t waver. “Enjoy your shift.”
Mascara bleeds down your cheeks in Rorschach trails, each swipe of your hand hours ago having smeared it into abstract art. Your hair, once sleek, hangs in Medusa tendrils, rainwater still glazing the strands. Your right hand drifts to your ring finger, bare now, the moonstone’s absence a phantom itch.
The elevator dings. You step in, shoulders grazing cold steel. Your reflection splinters across the mirrored walls—a dozen shattered versions of yourself, each more unrecognisable than the last. One version trembles. Another sneers. A third presses a fist to her mouth, stifling something raw.
You fixate on the numbers lighting up: 4… 5… 6… Each floor hums, the sound vibrating in your molars. The doors open to your hallway, its geometric carpet clashing violently with your waterlogged heels. You fumble the key, metal scraping the lock until it gives, your trembling hands betraying you.
When the door finally gives, the flat smells of vanilla and Thai food. Light spills from the kitchen, where Will’s voice rings out, bright and buoyant over the clatter of dishes.
“Welcome home! You’ll never believe the day I—”
You step inside, rainwater pattering onto the entryway tiles.
“—had to reshoot the entire bridge sequence because the damn drone malfunctioned. Nearly brained James when he suggested cutting the tracking shot, but then—”
You don’t move. Don’t speak. You place your clutch on the coffee table, a dark stain spreading beneath it. The sound of his voice - usually so comforting - feels like radio static now, all meaningless noise.
"Anyway, I've got this banger idea for the next main channel vid—"
A cabinet slams. Silverware jingles. He’s pouring wine, you realize—the clink of two glasses meeting.
“Hungry? I grabbed that Thai place you like on the way back. The Penang curry’s still…”
He trails off as he rounds the corner, two glasses of Malbec in hand, hair messy and shirtsleeves rolled up. His grin fades when he sees you—a drowned spectre in ruined silk, mascara bleeding down your cheeks.
“Jesus, why’re you soaked?” He sets the glasses down too hard, crimson sloshing onto the counter. “Didn’t you check the weather? I texted you about the storm before I left this morning—”
Your voice cuts through his, quiet and lethally calm. “What’s today’s date, Will?”
“What?”
“The. Date.”
His eyes dart reflexively to the fridge—to the takeout calendar stuck beneath a Star Wars magnet, October 12th circled in your lavender gel pen. A Post-it note hangs half-peeled beneath it: “Dress fancy. 7:00. Il Girasole. Don’t be late!!! ”
The blood drains from his face. “Fuck. The shoot ran late, and then the producer ambushed me with notes, and I—”
“Two years.” Your whisper fractures. “You forgot two years.”
A beat. Rain lashes the window above the sink.
He reaches for you, wine-stained fingers trembling. “Let me fix this. I’ll call the restaurant—we can go now, I’ll—”
You sidestep his touch, the motion sending water droplets arcing onto the plush rug. The bathroom door slams shut behind you.
Tumblr media
The bathroom tiles bite into your soles as you peel the dress from your skin. The silk clings, resisting until it finally slaps wetly against the floor. You ball it up, shove it into the rubbish bin beside the toilet. The champagne fabric wilts over the near empty bin.
The shower handle creaks as you crank it. Water hammers your hand before the heater catches up, icy needles sharpening to a scalding sheet. You step in, skin flushing red. Steam clots your lungs.
For a beat you stand there, staring blankly at the showerhead.
Then your breath hitches—sharp, shallow gulps that shudder through your ribs. You clamp a hand over your mouth, teeth sinking into the meat of your palm to stifle the sob climbing your throat. It works, but only briefly. A high, keening noise escapes through your nose, and you press your face into the crook of your elbow, smothering the sound against wet skin.
Tears come in silent, relentless waves. Your shoulders jerk forward with each suppressed gasp, muscles coiled so tight your back aches. Water streams down your face, mingling with snot and salt, but you keep your eyes screwed shut. When another sob threatens, you bite down harder on your hand, the pressure dull and grounding, but not enough to break skin.
Your free hand braces against the shower wall, fingers splayed white-knuckled on the tile. The urge to scream pulses in your throat, but you choke it back, swallowing until it burns. Your body rebels anyway: chest heaving, knees trembling, a strangled whimper slipping free. You slump against the wall, forehead pressed to cold ceramic, and let the water hammer the nape of your neck.
It’s messy. Uncontrolled. Snot drips onto your collarbone; tears pool in the divot of your pressed lips. You swipe at your face with a trembling fist, smearing rather than wiping, and suck in a ragged breath that catches like a hook in your windpipe. For a moment, you’re silent—then a fractured cry escapes, sharp as glass. You muffle it with both hands this time, breath hot and trapped against your palms, until the worst of the wave passes.
By the time the water runs cold, you’re hollowed out. Your breaths still hitch, but softer now—wet, exhausted sighs. You swipe your nose with the back of your wrist, eyes swollen to slits, and lean heavily on the wall to stand. Every muscle feels wrung-out, tender.
You reach for the soap with trembling hands. The bar slips twice before you manage to grip it, lathering mechanically between your palms. You scrub your arms again—not violently now, but with the dull precision of someone completing a chore. Bubbles slide over goose-bumped skin, your movements slow and leaden, like your bones are filled with wet sand.
Shampoo this time—squeezed directly onto your crown without measuring. You work it in with limp fingers, nails grazing your scalp without intent. Suds slither down your temples, stinging the corners of your bloodshot eyes. You don’t flinch. Just tilt your head back, let the spray rinse it away, your throat working silently as you swallow the last vestiges of tears.
A conditioner bottle clicks open. You apply too much, the excess dripping down your calves in pearlescent streaks. The scent—coconut, his favourite—makes your jaw clench. You rinse until the water runs clear, until your fingers prune and your skin feels scraped raw by nothing but time.
Beyond the door, Will’s breath hitches. He presses a palm to the wood, then balls up his hand, knuckles whitening, but doesn’t knock. “Fuck,” he mouths silently, raking a hand through his hair.
He counts each shuddering breath you take, his own syncing unevenly with yours. When the shower shuts off with a metallic squeal, he staggers back, suddenly aware he’s been holding his breath.
Silence.
Will hesitates, arm half-raised as if to knock. Then the rasp of a towel against skin sends him retreating down the hall, socked feet silent on hardwood. By the time you crack the door, he’s slumped on the living room sofa, staring blankly at his abandoned wine glass.
You dress in the sweatpants and shirt he left on the hook—his sweatpants, the ones he’d draped there this morning while whistling off-key, already late, already forgetting—and don’t look at the bin where your dress lies balled in the dark.
You crack open the door and step out, spotting Will with his back to the door, staring at something on the coffee table. You swallow and shuffle to the spare bedroom, closing the door softly and curling under the warm duvet, curling up and stare at the wall.
Tumblr media
Rain ticks its fingernails against the windowpane. The hoodie you claimed for yourself from Will at the start of your relationship drowns you in its fabric, the cuffs frayed from his restless worrying and your attempted messy repairs at stitching them back together. The elbows are thin from wear. It smells like him still—
The door creaks.
A sliver of hallway light fractures the darkness, then vanishes as Will slips inside. He’s haloed in the dim glow of your alarm clock, shadows pooling beneath bloodshot eyes. His socked feet whisper across the floorboards until he kneels beside the bed, a supplicant at an altar.
“You once said…” His voice splinters, raw as the blisters on your heels. He tries again, softer. “‘We should’t go to bed if we’re angry at each other’ Even if it’s 2 AM. And you’re rightfully angry at me.”
You curl tighter, hoodie fabric muffling your reply. “You remembered that?”
A beat. His exhale unravels, frayed and uneven, as if the truth weighs more than his lungs can hold. “I remember everything.” The mattress groans as he leans closer, his knuckle catching a damp strand of hair from your cheek—the touch featherlight, like he’s handling glass. “How you take your coffee. Your weird fear of pigeons.” His thumb skims your jaw, lingering where your pulse thrums. "The way your smile lingered after our first kiss, like you were still tasting it when I walked you to your door." A ragged inhale. "I remember us. Every moment. Just...not the date on the calendar.”
Your breath hitches, betrayal and hope warring in your ribs. But then his palm cups your cheek, calluses catching on tear-salted skin, and you feel it—the tremor in his touch, the way his gaze maps your face like he’s memorising it anew. This is the man who once spent an hour untangling your necklace with a paperclip, who still flushes peony-pink when you mimic the way he murmurs your name between snores—lips parted, brow smooth, utterly, infuriatingly beautiful.
The fist around your lungs unclenches finger by finger—air flooding in, sweet and sharp as the first gasp after drowning.
He removes his hand from your face and unlocks his phone, the screen’s blue glare sharpening the hollows of his face, and hands it to you. A reservation confirmation glows: Il Girasole. Tomorrow, 7:00 PM. Table for two. “They’re holding the same corner booth. The duck’s still on the menu. And—” His throat bobs. “—I’ll eat every fucking breadstick this time. Even if they’re cold.”
A teary laugh escapes you, brittle but real. “Your memory’s awful.”
“But yours isn’t. I may be pants at dates, but I remember the proper things.” He swipes open his notes' app, revealing a list titled THINGS TO NEVER FORGET (OR ELSE) in all caps. And in bullet points:
Hates cilantro
Hates roses (cliché)
Hums when she cooks (buy a home speaker)
Secretly loves my terrible puns (look up more)
Saves fortune cookie slips (Saves it in a cute box, give her yours too)
Order at the dodgy kebab shop near the station: lamb, extra garlic sauce, no onions (but she’ll steal sone of mine anyway, so get a large)
Loves the centre of sandwiches (make sure to offer it to her before you finish it all)
Keeps the foil from chocolate bars (folds them into tiny stars when she’s stressed, found 17 in her coat pocket last winter)
Her ring size (6.25)
You sit up, moonlight catching the tear tracks on your face. “You made a list?” Your thumb keeps swiping, the entries endless—tiny, obsessive details you hadn’t even realised he’d noticed.
Your breath hitches. “How long…?”
“Since our first date.” He rubs the back of his neck, sheepish. “You told me you hated cilantro. I wrote it down so I’d never put it in your food. Then… it sort of grew.”
His phone screen flickers—a photo of you, mid-laugh at a pub, tucked between reminders: Buy more of her weird sour cherry tea and She bites her lip when concentrating (don’t distract her, no matter how cute it is).
"I updated it at the studio during the reshoot." His smile flickers, vulnerable at the edges. "James caught me and said I'm 'whipped.'" He huffs a laugh, thumb brushing your knuckles. "Told him he's just jealous because his girlfriend's never looked at him the way you look at me when I'm half-asleep and making coffee in my pants."
The tension unravels like a frayed knot, leaving only the quiet pulse of rain against glass. You reach for him, and he surges forward—foreheads colliding, noses brushing, his hands cradling your face like you’re something fragile. His thumbs sweep beneath your eyes, smudging tears into the salt-stained hollows of your cheeks.
“I’ll set alarms,” he rasps, lips skating your temple. His breath hitches, warm and uneven. “A thousand of them. Buy a calendar that takes up the whole fucking kitchen wall. Tattoo the date—”
“Don’t.” You press two fingers to his mouth, trembling.
He kisses them anyway, teeth grazing your knuckles. “—on my ribs,” he finishes, voice rough. “I’ll hire a skywriter. Carve it into every birthday cake we ever eat. Make our future kids recite it before—”
“Will.”
“—school. Every. Morning.” He’s grinning now, wild and desperate, eyes glittering in the dark. “I’ll be the embarrassing dad with anniversary-themed socks. The one who—”
You kiss him quiet. He tastes of mint toothpaste, of apologies swallowed too late. When you pull back, his smile has softened—not a promise, but a plea.
“Just,” you breathed in, “be here,” ending in a whisper.
His forehead drops to yours. “Always.”
You hook two fingers into the waist of his joggers—a gesture from your early days, when you’d drag him into dive bar bathrooms for reckless, laughing kisses. He follows without resistance, knees bumping the mattress as you fall back onto sheets still smelling of rain and your abandoned perfume.
He folds around you like a prayer, all trembling hands and murmured sorrys into your hair. His stubble scrapes your temple as he nuzzles closer, one arm banded tight around your ribs, the other cradling the nape of your neck—possessive, penitent.
“Still stealing my hoodies,” he rasps, thumb brushing the frayed cuff around your wrist.
“Still leaving them where I can find them,” you counter, voice muffled against his collarbone.
His laugh rumbles through you, warm and wounded. You map the familiar landscape of his face-the faint constellation of freckles on his cheekbone, the delicate lines that etch the corners of his eyes and his eyes—god, his eyes—blue flecked with moss-green, his iris fractured by a sliver of grey hold yours like a vow.
The rain softens to a hushed patter as Will shifts, his chest becoming a pillow beneath your cheek. You trace the hem of his shirt where it rides up, fingertips skating over the warm plane of his stomach. He shivers, not from cold, but from the featherlight drag of your nails.
“Still ticklish?” you murmur, pressing a smile into his collarbone.
He huffs a laugh, catching your wandering hand. “Still a menace.” But he laces his fingers through yours, bringing your knuckles to his lips. His breath ghosts over them—a silent apology, a promise—before he kisses each ridge of bone.
You lift your head, finding his gaze. Moonlight spills through the blinds, striping his face in silver. His eyes are raw, red-rimmed, but soft as he tucks a damp strand of hair behind your ear. “Your roots are growing in,” he whispers, thumb brushing the faint line at your temple. “Like autumn creeping into summer.”
Your breath hitches. He notices. He always notices.
“I was going to dye it tomorrow,” you admit, voice still thick from tears.
“Don’t.” His palm cradles your jaw, calluses catching on salt-dried skin. “I want to watch the seasons change.”
You swallow, throat tight. He leans in, so close his lashes brush your cheek, and for a heartbeat, you think he’ll kiss you. Instead, he noses along your hairline, inhaling deeply.
“Vanilla,” he murmurs, lips grazing your earlobe. “And that shampoo you pretend to hate.”
You snort, swatting his shoulder. “It dries my scalp.”
“Liar. You keep buying it.” His smile curves against your neck. “Just like you ‘hate’ my puns, but laughed at the one about the scared pasta.”
“It was shell-shocked.” You groan, even as laughter bubbles up, bright and healing. “That’s not even a pun, it’s a crime—”
His lips meet yours not as an ending, but a beginning—slow, syrup-sweet, a confession pressed into flesh. The first brush is tentative, a question mark curved against your mouth. His thumb finds the frantic pulse at your wrist, a callused pad circling gently, as if polishing a relic. I’m here, it whispers. I’m not leaving.
You sigh into him, and the kiss deepens—no longer an apology, but a promise. His free hand cradles the nape of your neck, fingers threading through damp hair still chilled from the storm. His touch is summer-warm, grounding you as he tilts your head, lips parting yours with a reverence that makes your ribs ache. There’s a hitch in his breath when your teeth graze his bottom lip, a stuttered oh swallowed by your mouth as he pulls you closer. When you whimper, he gentles, tongue sweeping soft as a paintbrush over the seam of your lips. Let me in, it pleads. Let me fix this.
You open, and he moans low in his throat—a sound that vibrates through your sternum. His hands skate down your spine, bunching the stolen hoodie at your waist, kneading the tender hollows above your hips. You arch into him, fingers fisting in his shirt as he nips your jaw, then soothes the sting with a flick of his tongue.
His lips linger against yours, breath mingling in the scant centimetres between you. When he finally pulls back, it’s just far enough to let his thumb brush the fringe of your lashes. His own eyes are glassy, the joke hovering on his tongue not yet ready to land—not until he’s sure you’re both still here, still real.
You feel it—the tremor in his hands where they cradle your face, the rapid flutter of his pulse beneath your palm. He swallows hard, Adam’s apple bobbing against your knuckles, before managing a shaky grin.
“Still got it,” he whispers, voice frayed at the edges. His attempt at levity cracks mid-syllable, revealing the raw fear beneath—the terror that this might’ve broken you.
You huff a damp laugh into the hollow of his throat. “Got what?”
He nuzzles your temple, stubble catching on tender skin. “The magic touch.” A pause. His nose traces your temple, breath warm and uneven. “Made you laugh, didn’t I?”
It’s not the joke that undoes you, but the desperation in it—the way his arms tighten around your ribs like he’s clinging to driftwood. You press closer, lips brushing the frantic thrum at his jugular.
“Terrible puns aren’t a ‘magic touch,’” you mutter, teeth grazing his collarbone in reprimand.
He shivers, fingers skating up your spine. “Admit it.” His palm splays between your shoulder blades, pressing you flush against him until there’s no space for doubt, for anger, for anything but his next whispered plea: “You married a comedic genius.”
“We’re not married.”
“Yet.”
The word hangs, delicate as the cobwebs glinting in the window’s moonlit corners. Your heartbeat thrums against his, syncing as his hands slide beneath the stolen hoodie, palms searing trails up your spine.
“Will—”
“Not asking,” he breathes, forehead pressed to yours. “Just… storing the idea. Somewhere between your sandwich centres and chocolate foil stars.”
You fist your hands in his shirt, anchoring yourself as he shifts, rolling until you’re cocooned beneath him. His weight is a comfort, familiar as your own breath.
“Talk to me,” he whispers. “The quiet version. The one you only show at 3 AM.”
So you do—lips brushing his throat as you confess the ache of waiting, the terror of feeling forgotten. He listens, fingers combing through your hair, until your whispers dissolve into yawns.
“Sleep,” he murmurs, tugging the duvet over your tangled legs. “I’ll be here when you wake, I promise. Even if morning you is a sight.”
You snort, but curl closer, nose buried in the hollow of his throat. His heartbeat drums a lullaby against your lips—steady, alive, yours.

I hope this was okay! It took longer than expected, so sorry about that! And I hope you don't mind that I made it a female reader. Also, I'm thinking of possibly making a part two where they go on the date that Will booked...thoughts?

can you PLEASE do a husband!katsuki reacting to the reader and his son being disrespectful or and rude to the reader, maybe even pushing her lightly?
𝐵𝑎𝑘𝑢𝑔𝑜'𝑠 𝑅𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑠𝑡: 𝑆ℎ𝑒'𝑠 𝑀𝑦 𝑊𝑖𝑓𝑒, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑀𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟.
Thank you so much! It’s my first request, so I’m kinda excited haha. I hope it’s exactly what you wanted, feel free to ask for more anytime!
Kaito’s teenage years came fast, and no one was ready for the mess they brought. You looked at him with a mix of worry and sadness, wondering when the sweet boy who used to come to you for everything had turned into a teenager who barely looked at you.
That afternoon, you were pacing around the living room, turning the words over in your head. You had no idea how to bring up what you had found that morning in his room.
When you heard the front door open, your heart skipped a beat. You heard Kaito’s footsteps, and before he could disappear down the hallway, you broke the silence:
“Can you come here for a second, please?”
Kaito let out a long sigh, the one he’d been using lately like armor.
“What do you want now?”
That morning, while cleaning his room —with nothing but the intention of tidying up a bit— what you found under his bed froze you to the core: an almost empty pack of cigarettes, a half-finished bottle of alcohol, several failed exams… and other things you’d rather not name. You shut the box abruptly, hands trembling and your throat dry.
Kaito’s eyes fell on the box the moment he walked in. He didn’t say a word, but he knew exactly what it was. He took a deep breath, and then said:
"Did you seriously go through my stuff?"
“I swear I didn’t mean to invade your space,” you said, trying to find words that wouldn’t set him off. “It’s not about spying on you, Kaito. It’s just… there are things that worry me. That’s all.”
His eyes locked on yours, full of restrained anger.
"Just stay outta my life, okay? I'm not a little kid anymore!"
“I just want you to listen. Just for a moment.”
He got so close his breath brushed your face. And then it started. With every word, a shove. One after another, like he didn’t know how else to get his point across.
“You don’t get it!” Shove.
“You’ll never get what it’s like—carrying his name, his shadow, every damn day!” Shove.
“I didn’t ask for this!” Shove.
“I don’t need you watching my every move like I’m gonna explode or screw everything up!” Shove.
“Just stay out of my room, and out of my life!” Shove.
Bakugo slammed the door open with almost violent force, like some instinct had pushed him to come in without warning. His sharp, alert gaze swept the room, looking for any sign of danger—but what froze him in place was the sight of Kaito’s finger digging into Y/n’s shoulder, shoving her with a rage that couldn’t be ignored.
Bakugo’s expression darkened, and with a low growl, he stepped forward without hesitation. “Kaito, that’s enough!” His voice echoed through the room, firm and commanding, the kind of order you don’t argue with. He closed the distance fast and placed a strong hand on Kaito’s shoulder, stopping him in his tracks. “You don’t treat your mother like that. You hear me?”
Kaito didn’t back down, but his jaw clenched.
“Of course… just what I needed. Now you,” he muttered with scorn, trying to shake him off. He didn’t succeed.
Bakugo lowered his head slightly, face to face with him.
“Don’t. Move,” he said through gritted teeth. “And I’m not done with you. Not after what you just did.”
“I wasn’t going to hurt her,” Kaito muttered, like he needed to convince himself more than anyone else. “I was just… angry.”
Bakugo didn’t let go. His voice dropped low, tense like a threat:
"Listen to me, Kaito: no one, no one lays a hand on my wife! Not even a finger! I don’t care how angry you are, you don’t push your mother, you don’t raise your voice at her, and you sure as hell don’t look at her like that. Got it?"
Kaito closed his eyes. One second. He took a deep breath, like he was trying to swallow his own rage.
“I get it,” he said quietly.
Bakugo didn’t shout this time. He leaned in just slightly, his eyes locked on Kaito’s, voice low but solid as steel.
“No, you don’t. If you got it, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle between them.
“You’re angry? Fine. You think life’s unfair? Fine. But that doesn’t give you the right to hurt the people who love you. You don’t lash out at your mother. Ever. You hear me?”
His voice softened just enough, but the edge never left.
“You wanna be a man? Then start acting like one. Own your anger. Control it. Don’t let it control you.”
Kaito lowered his gaze, jaw tight.
“…Okay.”
Bakugo’s eyes narrowed as he stared Kaito down. In a low, dangerous tone he leaned in and snapped,
“I didn’t hear you. Louder.”
Before the tension could snap any tighter, you stepped forward and gently pressed your hand against Bakugo’s arm. Your voice was soft but firm:
“That’s enough. It’s okay, love.”
Bakugo clenched his jaw, but listened. He let go of his son’s shoulder, though his voice remained firm:
“Apologize to your mother. Now.”
Kaito blinked, his expression shifting in an instant, as if a bucket of cold water had just hit him.
“I… I’m really sorry, Mom,” he said, his voice cracking slightly. “I didn’t mean… I don’t know what I was thinking. I messed up. I’m so sorry.”
“I forgive you, Kaito,” you said gently, your voice steady despite the tightness in your chest. “I’m not angry. Just… scared. I need you to understand that you’re not alone, that I’m here to—”
“I know,” he cut in, barely above a whisper, eyes still avoiding yours. “Can I just… go to my room now, please?”
You nodded, though there was a sadness you couldn’t quite hide in your voice.
Bakugo was more direct:
“Yeah, go. But don’t forget what we said.”
Once Kaito left, the silence that filled the room was so thick it was hard to breathe. You stood still. Shaken.
And then, without saying a word, Bakugo wrapped you in his arms. Tight. Like he could hold everything together just by holding you. His warmth, the solid feel of his body, the steadiness in his breathing that was all that kept you grounded.
“It’s okay,” he murmured into your hair. “Kaito’s not a bad kid. He’s just lost. We’re gonna help him. You’re not alone in this. I swear.”
And in that embrace, everything broke. The tears started falling, one after another. Because even though the road ahead was long and hard, in that moment, one thing was crystal clear:
Even if the world fell apart, Bakugo was going to be there.
Holding you.

Moments with Karina: The Park
male reader x Yu Jimin/Karina
~6.9k words

Tumblr media
“So how does air taste like?”
“Funny, you should try it out for yourself.”
“You seemed like you were enjoying it.”
You weren’t exactly sure how it got to this point.
Meeting a K-pop idol wasn’t exactly on your bucket list, but here we are, with a K-pop idol, a pretty famous one at that, in the middle of the night, in an empty park, with her laughing and dragging you around like she wasn’t a famous K-pop idol.
It doesn’t help that she’s wearing a pretty explicit outfit. The top alone was driving you crazy. So much so that you just want to pin her down the nearest tree-wall-whatever and show her how much she’s affecting you by simply existing.
The dumbest thing? You didn’t even know she was a K-pop idol till she told you.
So how did you let it get to this point?
Well, it kinda started at a convenience store.
You got off work pretty late, your boss telling you to do a bit of overtime for a bridge call he wanted you to attend because someone decided to mess up a couple of accounts, on a Friday of all days. But you, not wanting to lose your work visa because you didn’t suck up to your boss and potentially lose your job, stayed.
I mean, you’ll still get paid regardless, but it sucks having to leave the office five hours later than you wanted to be.
So here you are, coming into the nearest convenience store to your apartment, still in your work clothes that you got from the discount stores you occasionally visit because if it fits and it looks good on you plus it’s cheap, then that’s good enough for you.
You round the corner to the food aisle to get whatever stops your stomach from being hangry with how you decided to work five more extra hours. But you remember that those five extra hours translates to more money so you think that your stomach will be fine, especially when you see a bento box that has tempura, some sushi, and a salad of some kind. Wasn’t your favorite meal but-
“Food’s still food.” You shrug, grab it, and head off to the drinks aisle for your favorite peach drink.
Then you see her.
At first glance she was pretty unassuming. With her back turned she looked like a regular old nobody like you that also wanted to buy a drink, so you thought that there’ll be no problem just going up next to her and opening up the beverage cooler to get your peach drink.
But she turns to face you when grab your drink, and by God was she beautiful. So much so that your brain short circuited and forgot that you were supposed to get your drink. And when she smiles, you’ve lagged out-
“You okay there?” She asks, and her voice sounds divine, unreal even. But she is, and she’s looking at you with a teasing glint in her eye and a slight smirk in her face as you come back to reality, shake your head a bit, and give a shaky laugh.
“Sorry, just a little tired from work.” You know it’s a very shitty excuse because you totally weren’t enchanted with her smile, but you did spend close to 15 hours in the office today. Although she doesn’t know that of course.
You quickly grab your drink and attempt to close the cooler, but she squeezes in between the door and your hand to grab the same drink you did, and straightens to give you another one of her smiles.
“Thanks for helping me choose my drink.” She says, like you two weren’t complete strangers and walks away to the counter, and you’re left shaking your head and trailing behind her after closing the cooler.
It takes you a teeny bit longer than her to pay but that also lets you subtly check her out and you swear she knows, because she saunters away with a little sway in her hips that just…fuck.
And when she sits down next to an empty table with a conveniently placed empty chair and looks at you, gives you a knowing smile, and pats the table while she goes about opening her drink, she definitely knows.
And so here you are, sitting across this beautiful stranger in the middle of the night while trying your best to focus at your bento box, which you begin munching down to avoid thinking about the fact that she wanted to sit next to a complete nobody who just so happens to be you while she takes a sip on her own drink, taking glances at you with a glint in her eye that makes you uneasy in a weirdly good way.
For the next few minutes, it was pretty silent between the both of you, you focused on your food and her scrolling on her phone, drink halfway empty. It wasn’t until you took a sip of your own drink that the silence gave way to conversation.
“You always ask strangers to sit next to you at convenience stores?” You begin, and she chuckles.
“You would be the first.” A sip of her drink.
“Then why ask me?” A stab of a fork hitting sushi.
“Because you looked like you needed company.” A ringtone plays out of her phone.
And that made you stop midway into having food into your mouth, placing down said food to give her a stare that screamed ‘doubt’.
“What, you a therapist now?” Your eyebrow raises, and your mouth goes upwards.
“Maybe, should I start asking for payment?” She side-eyes, and her mouth goes upwards.
“Depends, what kinda payment do you accept, miss…?” You ask, and she turns to face you.
“Jimin.” She leans towards you.
“And I accept payment in gossip, mister…?” She grins, a palm on her cheek.
You tell her your name, she repeats it, and you’ve never wanted to hear your name spoken out loud like that again so much your brain is activating neurons.
“Well then!” She claps her hands. “Start talking.” She beams, and that might actually get you killed.
You didn’t know how long you spent with Jimin talking, ranting, venting, everything. You just know that being with her felt nice.
Like it was okay just talking about anything with her.
You tell her about taking overtime just to make sure your boss and your boss’ boss is happy, she laughs and tells you that she’s doing overtime because she’s “in demand” at her job and she doesn’t get enough sleep.
You say that you work as an analyst at an electronics company and she says that she’s a model for a couple of brands out there that are too expensive for you to buy, let alone look at.
You’re annoyed that you lost your last 50/50 at the latest banner on this popular gacha game, having to angry pull another 70 or so tickets just to get your favorite purple-haired amnesiac and she brags that she’s “a little over 11,000” levels at some connect 3 game, showing you the game on her phone that clearly says “11,552” on the bottom right of the screen.
You two keep this back and forth until you realize that you’ve been taking sips out of an empty bottle for the last couple of minutes, and you hear a sweet little giggle that just sounds so fucking cu-
Stop.
You embarrassingly take a glance at her, and she’s grinning ear to ear. “And now he notices.” She brings up her own empty bottle of peach and dangles it in front of you. “So how does air taste like?”
“Funny.” You stand up, grumbling as you start to clean up your mess at the table. “You should try it out for yourself.” You tap her bottle as you stand up and head to the garbage can.
“Wanted your opinion on it Mister Analyst, you seemed like you were enjoying it.” she follows you to the garbage and throws it out her bottle as you soon follow.
“Peachy.” You step outside. “Really peachy.”
She bumps your shoulder with her own and smiles. “I’ll be sure to have a go at it next time.” She whips out her phone and hands it to you. “You should give me your number, just so we can compare notes when I try drinking air.”
You smile back. “Very smooth Jimin, sure it’s not because you want me to start playing that game of yours?” you hand it back to her after putting your number with your name as the contact, which she quickly changes to ‘Mister Analyst’ with a nerdy emoji.
“Totally because I don’t want you to start playing, no.” She’s laughing as she rings your number, and your phone lights up with hers. You were about to save it until she grabs your phone and starts typing away, probably saving her number for you and hands it back to you with the words ‘Jimin’ with a heart looking right back at you.
You ain’t gonna lie, but that made your heart skip a beat for a second.
“Nice heart.” Placing your phone back to your pocket, you look back at her smiling at you, hands behind her back which really accentuates her…chest.
That white top really was doing wonders for her. Doesn’t help that she unbuttoned one of her shoulder straps because it was a part of some fashion trend or whatever. You weren’t really listening on that part because, well, tits.
“Still up for a walk?” She tilts her head, smiling at you when she’s totally not shoving her tits in your face.
“Don’t you have curfew, Miss Model?” You notice it’s close to midnight.
“I told manager-unnie to pick me up at the park close by.” She points her thumb towards your right. “Be a gentleman and take me there, why don’t you?”
Before you could answer, she’s already walking like you agreed. You shake your head, still in disbelief that she could trust someone she’s met no more than an hour, maybe two, so easily,  before catching up.
“You trust me that much to walk you to a park?” You ask, finally wanting to get the answer to the conundrum that is Jimin.
She slows down her walk to look at you. An intense gaze that pierced straight into yours. And Jimin smiles, softly, “Yeah.” And moves on, pretending that nothing happened, like something didn’t change between the two of you, and she mutters something that you couldn’t pick up.
“You treat me as just Jimin.”
You two continue your banter all the way to the park, her talks about her work increasing in number as you found out that she wants to break into the acting industry, be more than just a face in a billboard, more than just someone part of a group, which sounded odd considering she’s a model and models usually work alone, but you let her continue on, letting her air out her frustrations and you unknowingly becoming her outlet.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love them like they’re my family.” Them being her co-workers, you think. “It’s just the job that’s tiring sometimes, you know?” You both continue your stroll, finally reaching the park, trees illuminated by all the lights making it feel peaceful. “Having to always keep up with appearances, having to do what the higher ups say,” She rambles on, taking a seat at a nearby bench, this tired look on her face like it’s her first time being able to say all these things.
“Sometimes, a girl’s gotta do her own thing.” She finishes, as you take up the spot next to her and lean back, taking in the lights, the trees, her face-
You blink. “And this is part of a girl doing her own thing?” Your hand stretches out to relax on the bench. “Talking to strangers, dragging them to a park?”
“First of all, you’re no longer a stranger. You’re Mister Analyst now.” She shoots back. “Second, you agreed to take me here, like a gentleman should.” And the swoon that she makes looks so fake you roll your eyes.
“Right.” You draw it out just enough to let her know that you’re smiling. “I should get paid for this.” You say it as an offhand comment, and she makes an exaggerated gasp.
“You totally should!” She stands up, and starts making small poses as if she’s in a photoshoot. “But you gotta take pics first!”
And so your impromptu life as a photographer begins, using your phone-
“Why is it my phone exactly? Your phone’s better.”
“Because it’s your job to take pictures of me, so you have to use your phone.”
Using your phone as the camera and her as the object of its obsession, you two begin taking pictures all over the park, starting off with a simple head tilt behind some trees, making her hair move just right to highlight her face, and she gives this stare that makes your heart stop for a second and you start-.

The both of you walk to the other side, smiling and laughing and having fun like it’s just the two of you left in the world before she leans back on the railing and gives you another look, her white top’s design now prominently seen in the lens of your phone.

You feel things shifting between the two of you, a couple lines crossed that ring a few alarm bells in your mind but at the same time, it makes you feel happy, content, making it feel so easy to forget all your problems and just live in the moment with Jimin.
And she feels it too, when you notice that her stares linger a little bit more than they should whenever you take a picture, or when her hands take a second longer before she lets you go. But no words are said, no more lines to be crossed right now when you both want some time away from responsibilities and relax for a couple of hours.
And that is how you got to this point.
“You okay there?” She’s right in front of you now, waving her hand across your face. A flicker of amusement passes by her eyes as she gives you a giggle. “You looked pretty focused on those pictures. Still can’t believe I’m that beautiful?”
You let out an embarrassed chuckle, glazing back down at your phone’s gallery, pictures of Jimin front and center, before your eyes go back right at her face which you gently give her forehead a flick. “Your ego’s showing, Miss Model.”
You hear a cute yelp. “Because that’s the same look you gave me back at the store!”
“What look?” You hand her your phone, one of her pictures on the screen, silently asking her to review your creations that were about this beautiful woman named Jimin.
“The look that made me feel like I’m the only thing that matters right now.” She starts scrolling through the pictures while you’re still processing what she just said, jaw a little dropped, chest pounding a bit more, mind rizzed up by Jimin and she’s just there, smiling at her own pictures as though she didn’t just cross another one of those invisible lines.
You blurt something out along the lines of “Maybe you are, Jimin” and her finger stops mid-scroll to focus on you, eyes looking straight into yours, as if she was peering into your soul.
“I never did tell you who I am, did I?” Her look on you softens, yet still searching for something that you can’t quite describe.
“Does it matter?” Your brows furrow. “You could be Jimin, Miss Model, whoever.” A smile crosses your lips. “All of that just makes you…you, and I think I’d like to know more about all of you, whoever that is.”
And now it’s her turn to have her jaw a little dropped, eyes still soft as she lets out a little laugh. “You say that to all the strangers you meet?”
“Nah, just the ones that make me follow them to a park in the middle of the night and call me ‘Mister Analyst’.” Air quotes are made with a smirk. “So lay it on me, Miss Model.”
She returns with a smile, a real one, and opens her mouth to say-
“Karina. Æspa’s Karina.” She gives a little bow. “Nice to meet you.” And she straightens up, like she’s suddenly become this ‘Karina’ in a split second, her real persona hidden underneath a layer of sophistication and grace, and yet, all you see is Jimin.
Wait. You’ve heard that word before.
“Dude, have you listened to the new song Æspa released?” One of your coworkers suddenly comes up to you while you’re busy fixing up last minute data errors on an excel sheet because somebody decided to use the wrong formula again.
You glance back at him. “What the fuck is an Æspa?” You weren’t really familiar with K-Pop, too focused on adjusting to Korea and all its nuances like actually speaking the language which took you almost 4 months to be somewhat fluent in it.
Eyes widen. “You don’t know who they are?” Suddenly a phone comes out of a pocket and fingers frantically start tapping. “You seriously gotta start listening to K-Pop, you’re missing out!”
And in the next few seconds you hear this synthy, dark, mesmerizing tune and-
“Yeah, yeah” A pause. “I’m the drama” It drags out before-
“Where the hell are those reports?” Your head snaps back to the monitor, quickly getting your head back to the task at hand-
You blink.
She’s still eyeing you, softness replaced with a weary guard, afraid that you’d look at her in a different light until-
“Huh.” You shrug. “One of my friends would freak out if he saw you.” You tease, and reach your hand out. “So how are they? Up to your standards?”
Then she blinks, and a laugh comes out of her mouth, disbelief written on her face. “Seriously? That’s it?” She’s shaking her head now. “I tell you that I’m this-” Her hands are flailing “-this K-Pop idol and you’re not even surprised?”
You give her another shrug. “I don’t listen to K-Pop, I listen to EDM.” You take the phone out of her hands and show her the last piece of music you were listening to, Lost in Mumbai by Apashe.
She gives you this exasperated stare when she grabs your phone and starts scrolling down your playlist, laser focused on all the song names and sure enough, it’s full of EDM, House, and the occasional Phonk.
“The only thing close to K-Pop here is K/DA.” Her arms are slump, defeated. “How have you not heard of us?” Another shake of the head. “No, how have you not heard of K-Pop when you’re literally in South Korea?”
“Too busy learning hangul and surviving the corporate world I guess?” You don’t really have a defense to that, since you’ve been in Korea for almost six months now and you somehow still managed to avoid K-Pop.
Can’t say you’ve avoided PC Bangs or Manhwas though.
“I told you, I want to know more about you, whoever that is.” You tilt your head. “Karina’s just another part of you that I’d like to figure out.” You lean closer to her, eyes drawn to your phone and your fingers tapping back to your gallery, where a picture of her leaning on a railway is center stage. “Seriously, how are the pics? Good enough for an idol?”
She lets out a huff, still not believing that this is happening to her right now, but her raven eyes showing a hint of something else now. Adoration, warmth, lov-“Yeah.” Her voice was low. “They were great.” But Jimin wasn’t looking at the pictures anymore, she was looking at you.
She takes a hand and brushes it over to your cheek, guiding your face up to hers and you feel her breasts press into your chest before she shifts, her lips brushing against yours in a soft kiss, her hand caressing your jawline as you slowly reciprocate.
And she pulls away, just enough for you to feel her breath on your face, and your mind is reeling when she says-
“I think I want to know more about you too.”
She takes you away to a darker area of the park, hidden from prying eyes with your hand on her hip and another on her cheek as you push forward, your mouth connecting with Jimin’s, lost in yourselves. She has both hands looped around your neck, kisses deepening, light moans in the air.
You didn’t know how long you two stayed like that, enjoying being with one another, but when she pulls away you’re both breathing heavily, lips burned from all the action as you let out a chuckle.
“Sure you should be doing this?” Your thumb, still on her cheek, starts to move to brush her red face. “Gonna be a hell of a scandal if we get caught.”
“I don’t care.” She bites her lip. “A girl’s gotta do her own thing.” She repeats what she told you earlier, and her eyes look back at yours.
“And I…” Her heart laid bare to you. ”I trust you.” Those three words carried so much weight, and the lines you were crossing began to blur into something more.
You didn’t have to say it back, not when you look at her like she’s your world, not when she already knows. So you do the next best thing you could have.
“Remember when you decided to play therapist earlier?” You start, and in an instant you spin her around, back facing you as you whisper. “Let me take care of you this time.”
The gasp that comes out of her mouth sounded angelic when you start kissing her neck so tenderly, the little sighs that come out of her mouth as you pepper small kisses, the breathy moan when she says not to leave marks on her neck as you smile under all those pecks on her neck, her jaw, her cheek, and you’re right back to where you started when her lips are already parted, arousal in her eyes as your mouths connect once more.
She brings a hand up to your cheek, another to your hand that was resting on her hip, and starts bringing it lower, deeper, into her jumpsuit that you could just pull down and she’d fucking let you.
It wasn’t until you felt your hand stop at her safety shorts where you separated from her. Her hand still resting on your cheek, eyes darker than what they were used to, lips wet as she takes deep breaths.
“Last chance to back out.” You didn’t know if you were asking her or yourself, because you both knew that this was a really bad idea. “Your manager might be close by.” Another excuse to stop this, to go back to running around the park taking pictures and pretending that there’s nothing happening between the two of you.
But when Jimin gives you this dangerous little smirk, like she knows what you’re trying to do, she’s already all in. Especially when she takes your other hand and brings it up to one of her breasts, still covered in that white top that you know that there’s no chance in hell she’s stopping.
“Honey.” Your brain blanks out when she whispers. “Stop talking and start touching.”
Now, all bets are off.
You give her breast a rough squeeze, her back arching, your cock throbbing at the way she starts to grind against you. You quickly leave the softness of her chest to steady her hips, stopping her, making her whine, until you pull her top and bra up in one go, exposing her tits to the cold air and you go back to groping all of that soft, firm flesh of hers. You tug at one of her buds, flicking it, rolling it, before you stop to gently slap her boobs, making them jiggle in front of you.
She lets out a soft whimper, grinding against the hand on her shorts instead and your hands starts moving, upwards to the edge of her shorts, slipping inside them, feeling her wet and hot and fucking gorgeous when you pull her panties aside and start to slowly circle around her clit, making her eyes roll back, mouth open in a silent scream, head leaning back towards you.
And once you bring a finger inside her, and she starts to break.
You were evil with her, when you’re pumping your finger so slowly yet playing with her tits so roughly or when you added another finger inside her tight pussy, upping your pace at the way you go in and out of her while gently massaging her tits and it was driving her absolutely insane.
“Please.” She’s biting her lip to stop herself from moaning out loud. “Don’t tease me.” She’s begging now, face pointed towards you, eyes wide as you let out a chuckle.
“Fast or slow, Ji?” You’re still teasing, fingers no longer moving inside her cunt and your other hand resting on one of her breasts.
She kisses you, raw, desperate, biting your lips with hers, and only a word is uttered.
“Rough.”
And your fingers start to push and pull inside of her, another thumbing her clit and she’s crying out, one of her hands quickly going up to her mouth to silence herself while one of yours continue to abuse her tits, slapping them harder now, leaving reddish marks on her perfect skin.
You don’t realize that she’s been cupping the tent in your pants for a while now when you’ve been so focused on Jimin that you move back just enough to let her unzip your pants to fish out your length.
“Dirty little girl, aren’t you?” Your mouth starts moving on its own. “Want my cock that bad?” She nods, her hand moving.
“You know you’ll be mine after this, right?” You bite her ear, and she moans, eyes closed, pleasure overriding her brain.
“Yours.” She says it like it's a fact, set in stone somewhere, and her eyes are wide now, full of this fondness towards you. “Yours now. Always yours.”
And she finally exposes your cock, she takes a hold of it, stroking it slowly, memorizing what it feels like. She was being so good with your length and yet you’re still punishing in your pace, a hand on her hip to keep her in place while your fingers are pumping so fast inside her pussy her knees are starting to give out.
The hand on her hip snaps up to her chin, forcing her to look at you, forcing her to let go of your shaft to hold on to you because she’s so close to getting ruined.
“Close?” You can hear the nods coming from her, the air a cacophony of moans, squelches, cries-
“Please, please, please-” She’s begging even more now. “Let me cum, fuck I need to cum-”
And when you put a third finger in, she’s ascending.
You’re slowing down now, letting her bask in her high, helping her stand straight as she cums, her chest shaking, legs turning to jelly, and you’re still there. Whispering all the  things that drive her mad.
“Let yourself go now baby, there you go.” She sighs, hands on your wrists.
“Yes-” She drags it out, leaning her entire body to you, chest heaving.
“Such a good girl for me, cumming all over my fingers like that.” Your fingers pull out and you start lazily circling her clit, making her let out a shaky laugh.
“Stop, Stop-” She pulls your hand up from her core and up to her face, where she takes one of your fingers, still wet from her, and she starts to suck.
She’s enjoying it, eyes closed, tasting your fingers, tasting herself, letting out these dirty moans that you can feel in your hand. She doesn’t stop, not until every last one of your fingers are clean from her mess, sucking them, licking them, worshipping them. All the while one of her hands come back to your cock, her hand rolling into your length and a thumb at the tip and she starts to run it down slowly, and you let out a small sigh, like you’re finally getting relief.
She lets go of your fingers, eyes fluttering open to gaze at you, and the only thing she says before kissing you is-
“Mine.”
Her hand is still jerking you off, twisting, soft, slow, fast, fuck, and she’s moving, facing you, giving out kisses from your lips downward, to your jaw, your neck, until she squats down, eyeing your cock for the first time, and the look she gives you sends a shiver down your spine.
A hand on your thigh, still clothed with your pants, and another still holding onto your dick while she nuzzles up to it, rubbing it against her face while she lets out these sighs that makes it throb harder, until she rests it on her face, and she speaks these utterly filthy words-
“Honey, can I suck your cock?” She’s still asking for permission, still being the good girl that she is, and all you do is take a hold of your cock, slap it a few times on her cheeks, on her lips before-
“Anything for you, Ji.” And her face lights up, her eyes locked onto yours, her head moving forward to give your tip a kiss, then another, and another, until she’s smothering your cock with kisses which makes you jerk your hips forward, hands on her hair and now you’re the one begging.
She’s grinning, enjoying what she’s doing to you, and gives you a small reprieve when her tongue stretches out to have a taste of you, and your head leans back at the sensation.
She’s licking everywhere, starting from the base, slowly sliding it up your length, swirling around your cockhead to get all the precum that’s been leaking out, and she goes back down to start it all over again.
She’s not trying to edge you so much as she is worshipping you, every inch of your cock lathered in her spit and all you can do is moan her name out.
And then she parts her lips and takes your cock into the her hot, wet mouth is when your mind blanks out and you’re gone-
“Fuck, Jimin-” Even now she’s smiling, your cock in her mouth as she hollows her cheeks, bobbing her head on your length slowly, savoring your taste like it’s going to be the last time she’ll ever have it, and she’s loving it.
Slurps are all you hear, her tongue flicking over and under your cock as she takes in more of you, one of her hands holding the base, moving in tandem with her mouth as she gives you this amazing blowjob that’s making your knees shake.
Then she puts both her hands on your thighs and slides down even more to take your entire length down her throat, her mouth in contact with your clothed pelvis and you feel her gag and pull back.
She’s still stroking your length, full of her drool like her chin is now, while she’s recovering from taking all of you, licking her lips from all the precum and all the strings of spit and she’s staring-”Am I doing good honey?”
“Fuck, you’re doing so well Ji-” A hand goes down to cup one of her tits, and you squeeze while she smacks your cock against her face before taking it all in once more.
She’s going faster now, sloppier, trying different things like moving her head to the side so your cock hits the inside of her cheek, or when she tries to throat your cock all the way back while she’s humming that makes your entire body feel the vibrations.
And everytime, her tongue is always moving, always getting a lick here and there, always twirling around your tip when she pulls back, always trying to get a taste of your balls when she takes your entire length down her throat.
You’re trying your damn best to hold back from cumming, to get more out of this moment with Jimin because you don’t know if you’ll ever experience this again until she takes your cock out of her mouth, tongue sliding over the side, and and it’s like she knows because-
“You know you can cum whenever, right?” Her tongue slides up the other side. “It’s not like this’ll be the last time, honey.” And she stops, resting your cock back on her face again and gives you this look of adoration or devotion or both-
“After all, I’m yours, aren’t I?”
And all self-control goes out the window when your hands get on her hair, forcing her on your length, pushing and pulling and she’s staring at you, letting you use her to get off.
Hands braced onto your thighs, lips wrapped around your cock, tongue moving under your length as you start getting rougher, thrusting your hips faster until-
“Shit, Jimin, cumming-” Hands still holding on to her hair as she pulls her head back all the way out except for the tip, her hand pumping so fast and her tongue still fucking twirling as the first spurts of your cum spilling right into her mouth, her tongue suddenly stopping to lay flat to catch all of it as she drains you of your load, eyes watching you go positively braindead from the pleasure that is Jimin, Karina, Her.
Just as when your orgasm was about to end, she takes your tip out of her mouth and lets the last of your cum land onto her face, messy little streaks on her cheeks, across her nose, and her mouth opens to show you all the cum she’s collected from you.
There’s an idea somewhere, at the back of your mind, something downright outrageous that would definitely get you both in even more trouble and yet, your hand is already moving on its own to collect your phone from your pocket, opening up your camera to-
A red dot starts to blink on your screen.
She’s still smiling against all the cum on her face, still smiling when she widens her mouth to give you a better view of the cum she wrung out of you, still smiling when she gargles it, relishing it, and she’s still smiling when she swallows it.
Her mouth opens one last time to show you well she did it too, and you’re brushing your thumb on a strand on her cheek, bringing it up to her lips to feed her more of your cum, and she’s gladly taking more.
“So good for me.” You keep giving her the strays that are left on her face, helping her clean herself up from your filth and as soon as she’s gotten all of it, she’s licking her lips, still looking at your phone and she winks.
The red dot stops.
You put your phone down, falling back into your pocket as she stands up and gives you a little peck, that smile still etched onto her face, your hands gravitating towards her tits, red from all the slaps you’ve given them and riddled with all the spit she’s let loose from sucking your cock, and you grab them like their yours.
“Thanks for all the cum honey.”
Her phone lights up and a ringtone blares out.
You both cleaned up fairly quickly, well, mostly her considering you fucked her with your fingers and came on her mouth-
“I’m seriously gonna need a change of panties when I get home.”
“Hey, you’re the one that wanted to do it in a park.”
She laughs, smacks your shoulder before spinning around to walk back to the main area of the park, and you’re shaking your head in amusement before catching up to her.
She’s still walking when she suddenly turns her head and-”Take another picture.”
And your life as a photographer continues on. Your phone on the ready, she has her hands on her hips and her head’s slightly towards you with a small smile for you to just-
Click.
“Thanks honey.” She gives this little whirl with this grin that just melts your heart-
“Karina!” Footsteps accompany the shout, and you turn and see this woman in all black running out from a car and stops- “Where have you been?!”
“With a friend, unnie.” And Jimin’s acting like she’s done nothing wrong, as if it wasn’t way past midnight and she’s just nudging your shoulder. “Say hi to manager-unnie.”
You give this timid wave and she’s ignoring you, too focused on Jimin-Karina to care about some nobody that was you. “We need to get back to your dorm, Karina. You still  have an early day tomorrow and it’s almost two in the morning! Do you know how-”
You stopped listening to give Jimin a glance and she’s back to being Karina with all the responsibilities that she wants to ignore coming back down on her, a smile that didn’t really come up to her eyes and a nod that felt too practiced when she’s being scolded for being up this late at night-
“And you.” Her manager points a finger at you, looking like she’s ready to give you a scolding before she lets out a tired groan. “Thank you for keeping an eye on her, she’s been a handful these last couple of months.”
Oh, she’s a handful alright-
Give a polite smile and tell her it’s no issue, and her manager’s back to ignoring you again for Karina who’s giving you a wave and a call me gesture as she’s heading into the car, yelling “See you later Mister Analyst!” before she’s taken away, returning to her modeling gigs and singing acts and you’re back to being an analyst that looks at numbers for a living.
Your brain was still processing all of the things you’ve just done with Jimin that you don’t notice that you’re already at the front door of your apartment.
The door opens and closes and you’re wrecked on the bed, where you see a couple of text messages from her.
“Thanks for listening, I enjoyed tonight.”
“And don’t forget to send the pics!” A heart emoji at the end.
“Here you are, Ji. I expect my payment in full.”  A few money emojis.
A laughing emoji. “I’ll treat you to coffee next time we meet”
“Oh so there is a next time?”
“There is now” A winky face.
“Lemme know when you’re free and I’ll take you to my fav cafe”
“Can’t wait!”
“And you forgot to send the video, honey” Three winky faces.
A laugh rings out of your apartment.
The weekend blurs by, having done nothing but have conversations with Jimin on the phone and look up who she is as Karina and you’re back to your life in the office, looking at numbers, suggesting actions, and pretending that you’re listening to company gossip.
Until you hear the words ‘Karina’s post’ and suddenly, you don't want to pretend anymore.
“What about Karina?” You couldn’t help yourself, and the words are already out loud before the same coworker who’s been telling you to start listening to K-Pop shoves his phone into your face to see your pictures in her Instagram with the caption-
‘To Mister Analyst’
The guy’s freaking out, asking everybody in the near vicinity who’s ‘Mister Analyst’ and ‘Is she dating someone’ and you’re sitting on your chair recording a short video of him before you open up your messages and-
“You see what you’ve done” The video attached.
“Absolutely mental”
An emoji of a hand over its mouth. “Like you’re not enjoying it”
A chuckle. “I’m more worried about you and your career with that post”
“Unnie’ll handle it, she always does”
“You still up for that cafe on Friday?”
And she’s already changing the topic, like this wasn’t a big deal, and here you are, smiling through the chaos, both in your office where your boss is trying to wrangle your friend back from causing more trouble for himself, and in the chaotic combinations of personas that is Jimin.
“Yeah. Pick you up at the park?”
“Can’t wait honey”

🌟 The holiday pretense by @mortallydeepestobservation (genre: fake-dating, friends to lovers/roommates to lovers au; crack, smut, fluff | ongoing)
summary: Namjoon has never been a fan of the holidays. In fact, he could list more things that sucked about ‘The most wonderful time of the year’, than things that brought him joy. Yet, beneath his cynicism, a flicker of hope appeared this year, as the faint scent of homesickness hung in the air. Unfortunately, there’s one tiny little thing that keeps him from calling home- his lack of a girlfriend. But fear not; this holiday season, Namjoon’s smart mouth gets him in a situation where he has no choice but to approach you- his longtime friend and roommate- with an unexpected request

okay, I had been thinking about but after you commented on my post it’s just— [explodes]
maybe a weaknesses post with the CoD men on your monthly? I’m begging on my knees, I’m sure they (König) could fix me❤️‍🩹✨also thinking about how König probably refers to it as “strawberry week” (German euphemism for it) [explodes pt 2]
Maybe? Machveil. For you? Anything. Also, please look at my favorite period euphemisms, found while researching for this post:
ペリー来航 - Arrival of Matthew Perry
Le petit clown qui saigne du nez - The little clown with a nose bleeding
Weaknesses part 9: the red death
cw: period play, breeding mention, exhibitionism mention
Gaz grew up with a sister— he is no stranger to the ill tidings that come with owning a uterus. He’s a man that probably already has pads and tampons at his place for guests. And Gaz is the kind of son of a bitch who kinda likes it when you’re sick, cause it means he gets to spend time nursing you— so he loves your period. Picking up comfort foods, doing a bit of extra laundry, making sure your vibrator is charged. He calls it “Lady time”.
Soap is not very sympathetic in this matter. He finds it kinda funny, to be honest. He’ll still do anything you ask, but he has a condescending little smile on his face. Calls you his little ketchup packet. Tickles you, knowing it makes you gush a little. That said, he will eat you out during it. His doglike nature knows no bounds. Refers to it as being “on the rag”.
Ghost is like a knight in your royal service when you’ve got a rough menstrual. At your command in any matter, no matter the inconvenience, with no complaint. While he will fuck you and make you cum, it’s purely for your benefit. Blood usually reminds him a bit too much of work for it to be a huge turn on. But he does melt under the praise of “none of my boyfriends before would do this for me— they all said it was gross :(“. Makes him feel like a real man. He calls it Shark Week.
Price feels, in just the tiniest way, like resources have been wasted when you get your period. Like… you’re paying rent on an empty apartment (your baby chamber) when it could be full (with a baby). He’ll never say that, but it’s in the back of his mind. And if you loudly complain about being on you’re period a lot he’ll be like “I know a way to make it stop for a while :{)” (the curly bracket is his mustache). Like man, shut up. Also, blame it on being English, but he’s constantly offering tea for every single symptom. He calls it “code red”.
König. This is a sick man. He feels a bit bad about it, but he does like that your period makes you so slick, and so sensitive— he doesn’t even have to do anything to get you going before he fucks you. Despite his career, he rather likes the look of your blood all over his cock and splashing up his pelvis. And he gets super proud if he’s the first man to ever fuck you on your period. He buys you a big, expensive box of imported chocolate truffles when you’re having a terrible period. Calls it “Erdbeerwoche” (strawberry week).
Nikolai… patron saint of your helplessness. Thinks of your period as a part of his responsibility as your man. Happy wife happy life type of thing. He does a lot of cooking. And he keeps you perched on his thigh at every opportunity for as long as you can stand it. He’s got a hand dipping into your panties and playing with you throughout the day (his non dominant, but that’s never stopped him) while he works, relaxes, entertains guests (Price). Makes you cum until you’re a boneless mess, your blood soaked clean through his jeans. Calls it “Красная шапочка (krasnaya shapochka)” (little red riding hood)

The proposal
After four grueling years of college, you were about to walk the stage, hand in hand with Azriel. Both of you were dressed in matching black gowns and caps. You’d begged for a pink gown, but had to settle for pink heels, nails, and gorgeous Alaïa dress.
Azriel looked sinful in the suit you picked out while you were out shopping together. It was honestly dangerous to shop for him, that changing room was practically begging you to drag Azriel in it.
He also thought about ditching his glasses and that made you kinda sad because you loved seeing him in his glasses, he was so painfully cute in them.
“Not the glasses, baby. Please—you gotta leave ‘em on.” Honestly, you would beg if you had to. But Azriel didn’t let you beg he just nodded and kept them on.
He didn’t have time to think too much of it.
Because he was busy sweating bullets, not just from the ceremony’s heat but because of the diamond ring hidden in his pocket. The ring he had been saving 2 years for. It was for sure the most expensive thing he had ever purchased but the exclusive internship had paid well and you were going to get a good fucking ring.
As you waited to walk across the stage, Professor Lawder, looking fabulous in her academically decorated scholar gown, approached you and Azriel with a warm smile. “So, what are your plans after college?”
Azriel shyly smiled before letting her know what he’d been up to. “I’ve been offered a position at a company, Professor.”
Professor Lawder’s eyes widened with admiration. “That’s fantastic, Azriel! I always knew you’d achieve great things.”
You’re heart was overflowing with pride and joy for him as you chimed in with your signature bubbly enthusiasm, “He’s being super modest! He’s going to Synergy Tech! Dunno what they do there, but Azriel loves it there and they’re lucky to have him.”
Professor Lawder’s jaw dropped in amazement, clearly impressed. Synergy Tech was one of the worlds most leading companies in technological innovation and getting offered a job was no easy task. Azriel’s cheeks flushed a cute shade of red as he shifted nervously, his hand discreetly brushing against the hidden ring box. You gave him a reassuring squeeze, your happiness bubbling over.
“That’s very, very impressive and I wish you nothing but luck! And what about you, Ms. L/N?” Professor Lawder asked with a gentle smile.
You shrugged and gave a dazzling, slightly clueless grin. “Oh, um, well, I haven’t really thought that far ahead. College was, like, super tough, and I’m just ready to, you know, have fun and see what happens! Maybe travel with my man a bit, find some cute hobby or, like, just live in the moment. Who knows?”
Professor Lawder’s smile grew more amused and approving. “Well, it sounds like you’re ready to enjoy whatever comes your way.” Professer Lawder hugged you both before wishing you good luck one last time before you walked the stage. It was a wonderful feeling and you were so glad it was finally over. You cheered loud as fuck when Azriel was awarded with several honors diplomas and got a medal for his stellar grades.
“Sweetheart, why don’t you come with me for a moment?” Azriel asked after taking pictures with your friends and family.
“Okay! Where are we going, baby?” asked with a bright smile, your eyes sparkling with excitement as you held your diploma in one hand.
Azriel’s smile grew more tender as he led you away from the crowd and into the quiet math building, the very first place you two met. The empty hallway seemed much smaller and more insignificant than it used to be.
He gently took your hand in his, guiding you to the old seats where you first bonded. As you both settled into the familiar space, Azriel took a deep breath, trying to steady his racing heart.
Okay, this was it. He was totally going to do it.
Azriel looked at you with an intense, tender gaze. “I’m insanely in love with you,” he said, his voice quivering with emotion.
You put a hand on his chest, your sparkly eyes lighting up with joy. “Awww, I love you too,” you smiled, your voice filled with warmth and affection.
Azriel took a deep, shaky breath, his eyes twinkling with a mix of nerves and adoration.
“You’ve completely changed my life,” he began, his voice wavering with emotion. “From the moment we met, I knew you were someone extraordinary. You’ve brought so much joy, love and laughter into my world, more than I ever thought possible for someone like me.”
He smiled at you, his cheeks flushed with a mix of boyish excitement and nervousness. “I want to make you as happy, forever. You deserve every bit of happiness, love and devotion in the world, and I want to be the one to give it to you.”
Azriel took a deep breath, his eyes full of tender love as he knelt down on one knee as best as he could while being stuck in the back of the classroom. With a trembling hand, he opened a black velvet box to reveal a stunning ring that sparkled with every color of his affection for you.
“Please, bless me by becoming my wife,” he asked softly, his voice filled with heartfelt sincerity. “I want to spend the rest of my life loving you and making you as happy as you’ve made me. I want to be your husband and the father of our kids, your rock, your trusted. Please, allow me be yours. Marry me, my love.”
You gasped, your hand flying to your mouth as your eyes filled with tears. In no time you started sobbing. You didn’t glance at the ring, just Azriel’s eyes that were so filled with love.
“Yes! Oh my god, yes! I’ll marry you!” you squealed, your voice high-pitched with excitement. Tears streamed down your face as you flung yourself into Azriel’s arms, knocking him back. He held firm, never letting you go.
You buried your face in his chest, sobbing uncontrollably. “Az,” you hiccupped between breaths, “I love you so much. Like, I can’t even—oh my god!”
Azriel’s chest vibrated with a quiet laugh, his dimples deepening as he pressed his cheek against your hair. “I know, sweetheart,” he murmured softly, his voice steady despite the overwhelming emotion tightening his throat. “I love you too.”
You sniffled, pulling back just enough to look up at him, your mascara smudged and your eyes sparkling. “We’re gonna be, like, the cutest married couple. We’ll have an amazing life and there’s so much we’ll do! We’re so perfect and hot and we can literally do whatever because we’re married.”
His lips curved into that rare, quiet smile reserved only for you. “Whatever you want,” he assured softly, brushing a tear from your cheek with his thumb. “I’m all in.”
You beamed through your tears, your voice bright despite the emotion clinging to it. “Duh, you kinda have to be now. I’m gonna be your wife. And I’m just gonna let you know now—I’m very high maintenance.”
Azriel’s heart flipped at the way you so confidently called yourself his wife already, and then he laughed, low and warm, because of course you were high maintenance. “So, no big changes there, huh?”
“Nope!” you said proudly, popping the p. “But I know you’ll take such good care of me and it means the world to me.” Your hand lifted, thumb gently brushing across his cheek, feeling the warmth of his skin beneath your touch. “God, Azzie, I couldn’t love someone more than I love you,” you whispered, your voice trembling slightly. ”You’re totally the love of my life.”
Azriel’s eyes softened as he gently took your hand. Slowly, he lifted the stunning light pink diamond ring from its velvet box and, with steady hands, slid it onto your finger. It fit perfectly, sparkling as though it had been made just for you.
You leaned in, pressing a sweet, lingering kiss to his lips. When you pulled back, your eyes drifted down to the ring resting perfectly on your finger. It sparkled brilliantly—a huge pink diamond that practically glowed in the light. Your eyes widened in awe, lips parting in delight.
“Oh my god,” you gasped, voice trembling with excitement. “It’s so perfect. I’m gonna cry, Azzie.” You blinked rapidly, trying to keep the tears at bay. “Are ya sure you want me as your wife? Like, forever?” you added softly, the last part coming out almost shy.
Azriel’s brows furrowed slightly in confusion. The mere thought of not wanting you made his chest ache. He would’ve married you right after your first tutoring session if you’d let him.
“Of course I do. Do you have any doubts, my love?” the thought made his stomach hurt. “Do you not want to do it?”
You shook your head vehemently. “No! I mean, yes, I wanna do it. But—what if you get bored of me?” You bit your lip nervously. “I mean, I can’t exactly have intellectual conversations with you or whatever. Ya know I’m not that smart, right?”
Azriel’s lips twitched as he fought back a smile. This was all coming from the girl who had trouble pronouncing colonel.
“You’re very smart, first of all. And I’m not marrying you for debates, sweetheart,” he said softly, brushing his thumb over your knuckles. “I’m marrying you because you’re my love and I don’t need anything else. Just you.”
Your heart melted as you softly kisses your future husband. “Okay, then. I wanna be your wife.”
————————————————————————
The wedding
Did anyone think your wedding would be small? Absolutely not. You hadn’t shut up about wanting a huge, fat Plaza wedding where everyone you knew would be invited, and you’d party all night with your insanely handsome husband while wearing a stunning Ellie Saab gown and sky-high Jimmy Choos. It had been your dream since you were a little girl.
You had all these plans, all these meticulously crafted visions for your perfect day, the flowers, the venue, the glitz, and glam but nothing, nothing, could have ever compared to the reality.
Nothing could have compared to Azriel.
Not the faceless groom who had always existed in your girlish dreams. Not the exclusivity of the prestigious venue or the shimmering of the evening.
Because it was him.
His steady hand holding yours as if he never intended to let go. The way his eyes never left you, not when you walked down the aisle, not when you exchanged vows, and certainly not as you danced in his arms under the soft glow of chandeliers.
Azriel made your dream wedding look trivial in comparison. He was the only part of the fantasy you’d never dared to dream up, and yet, he was better than anything you could’ve imagined.
At one point, you had actually wanted to elope. You literally couldn’t wait to marry him, pestering and prodding him every chance you got.
“Ya sure we shouldn’t just run away and get married? Wouldn’t it be sooo much fun, Azzie?” you’d asked, your eyes sparkling mischievously.
And yeah, Azriel totally wanted to marry you as soon as possible. The idea of waking up next to you as his wife was all he ever wanted. But he knew you better than you knew yourself sometimes. The way your eyes lit up when you talked about the wedding, how you dreamed of wearing a baby pink dress that wouldn’t be done justice in a courthouse was the only thing stopping him from saying yes.
“I would love to, sweetheart,” he had said, brushing his thumb gently over your knuckles. “But I know you want a beautiful wedding, and that’s exactly what we’ll have.”
And he’d made good on that promise. Because here you were, twirling on the dance floor in a stunning soft pink Ellie Saab gown that shimmered under the chandeliers, the air filled with laughter and love, all while Azriel’s gaze never left you, utterly captivated by the woman he was lucky enough to call his wife.
It was a small wedding, just your closest friends and family gathered intimately but it was still at the Plaza, still the fairytale wedding you had always dreamed of.
You beamed up at him, practically vibrating with excitement. “Can you believe we’re actually married? Like, you’re my husband. I can call you my husband now. That’s so hot, like, ‘Oh yeah, let me get my husband,’ or ‘My husband knows what to do.’”
Azriel’s lips quirked into that quiet smile reserved just for you. “I think you’ve said ‘husband’ more times in the past minute than most people do in a week.”
“And it’s only the beginning,” you giggled, leaning closer. “I’m never getting over this, husband.”
His hand found the small of your back, grounding you in that gentle, steady way only he could. “Good. Because neither am I, wife.”
Then he gave you the softest, most loving kiss ever. It was a kiss filled with the promise of your future, the one you’d spend together.
Sand. Palms. Warm weathers and the ocean.
You had been surrounded by your favorite things with your favorite person. It had been a few days since your wedding and you were now on your honeymoon.
The private island your father had gifted you as a married couple was absolutely perfect. It was completely magical and completely hidden away.
A single sprawling villa stood at the heart of it, with panoramic views of the turquoise ocean. Vibrant flowers bloomed in every imaginable color, their fragrance mingling with the salty breeze. Fruit trees, heavy with sweet, ripe fruit, dotted the landscape. And you were sharing it all with your husband.
That’s right, Azriel was officially your husband now, and you were his freaking wife. Sometimes it didn’t feel real, and other times it felt very real.
Like those times when Azriel made you ride him, begging you to call him nothing but husband. And he called you nothing but wife. His sweet wife, his beautiful wife, his sexy wife.
Azriel was unbelievably romantic, spoiling you left and right with thoughtful little gifts. Yesterday it was a jaw-dropping pair of diamond earrings; the day before that, a golden anklet etched with your initials intertwined. Every step you took made that anklet jingle softly, a reminder of how deeply he loved you.
It was also a cute reminder when he folded you in half, ankles in the air as the jewelry jingled. You had fucked just about everywhere. Outside, inside, on tables, in the hammock, on the beach chairs, and even right on the beach itself. That was the privilege of being utterly alone. You could do whatever the hell you wanted, scream and moan as loud as you pleased, without a single soul hearing or seeing Azriel slut you out.
That’s why you’d packed the sluttiest outfits imaginable — stringy bikinis, barely-there skirts, and see-through dresses. All scraps of fabric that Azriel would be tearing off anyway.
Your favorite ensemble was the white silk nightgown from Agent Provocateur that you’d worn on the first night. It was bridal, beautiful, and the match that lit this trip. The second Azriel saw it, he’d lost control and sanity. You’d ended up in so many positions that you couldn't walk without help the next day. He’d truly worn you out.
You still remembered the way his eyes had darkened when you stepped out of the bathroom and spun for him, showing off that sinful gown.
That was probably why you were now slipping into a baby pink lace bra and panties set — delicate and stunning. You tied it all together with a silk robe that wasn’t hiding anything, only highlighting everything. An open invitation, really.
“How’s dinner going, husband?” you asked, your freshly manicured hand grazing down his shirtless back.
“It’s coming along nicely, actually. Are you hungry, sweetheart?” he asked, pushing his glasses up his nose and scrunching it adorably as he stirred the sauce.
You smiled at the little quirk you loved so much. His glasses made your heart race every time. “Uh-huh, sure. I’m hungry. Actually, I’m reeeeally hungry.”
“Yeah? It’ll be done soon, and—”
His words faltered when he glanced down at you.
There was so much love and lust swirling in your gaze, your pupils dilated and locked on him. His throat went dry, forcing him to swallow once—then again.
“Everything okay, husband?” you asked innocently, voice soft and sweet, knowing damn well you were driving him crazy. There was nothing innocent or sweet about the way your hand dragged down his chest, all the way to his built abs and v-like that disappeared down his pants.
Azriel’s voice came out rough. “Oh, you’re not being fair, sweetheart.”
A slow, playful smile curled your lips. “Azzie, c’mon let’s fuck. Right here, right now.” you grabbed his hand and dragged him over to the kitchen island. There you looked up at him with those doe eyes, all innocent and sweet before you carefully let your robe drop.
“So, you gonna make me beg? i’ll totally do it,” you suggest with a little smile.
“Alright then, beg.”
“Wait—don’t hide your pretty face from me—fuck,” azriel reaches over and grabs both your hands in one of his.
God, you were being slutted out, whimpering mindlessly as you bounced in his lap. his ridiculously big dick was fittin’ just right, so snugly deep in your cunt.
“I want to see my wife’s face, so fucking pretty, might just cum from looking at it,” azriel was also a mumbling mess, groans and noises of pleasure escaping him whenever you lifted yourself and sat back down, your cunt sucking him in greedily.
The house was filled with so sinful noises, the noises were just sloppy, nasty, each ‘plop!’ and ‘pap!’ that echoed from both bodies was sending a wave of chills down azriel’s spine. The loud sounds echoing through the room only spurred him on more, making him fuck you harder, deeper, wanting to hear you cry louder.
“mm- az, there baby. righttttt there, fuck me good,” you’d weep out in a sweet whimper. he was in so fucking deep. A ring of cum had started to form around the base of his dick and dripped down his balls from how wet you were. you felt every delicious stroke, felt the way his tip kissed your cervix. fuck- you rolled your hips in circles, making his already fuzzy brain go more empty.
the combo of your sinful hips and the way your wet cunt was vacuuming each and every inch was just pushing him closer to the edge, turning him into a fucking mess. “o- oh fuck, ‘m gonna cum. keep ridin’ me, ride me good—shit, I-I think i’m gonna cum.” Azriel’s brows furrow in pleasure as he pushes the hair that fallen over his eyes back.
“ ‘s okay, azzie. you can c- cum inside,” you whisper breathlessly against the crook of his neck. he wraps his arms around you, holding you close as your hips rut into him quicker.
“god- ‘m cummin’ fuck- ‘m cumming,” he moans, and his entire body erupts. his hand snakes down between your perspiring bodies just as he rubs tight circles on your clit, the small move pushing you over the edge as your walls spasm around his leaking tip, still spurting out rope after rope as your fell against his chest.
Your eyes are glossed over in pleasure and you felt like bawling your eyes out. There was nothing more beautiful than post sex with Azriel. It was all so emotional and sweet and you didn’t miss the way he held you closer.
Your pulled away from him, just enough to see his face. Azriel was already staring at you with no less lust or love than before. You pouted a bit before kissing his swollen lips. He’s so pretty, god.
Azriel’s inside were swirling around and it didn’t help that you were looking up at him, freshly fucked with so much love and submission in your eyes. It was like your eyes were saying the words you couldn’t. Azriel’s hand carefully stroked your bottom lip from your between your teeth.
“These eyes, man. You keep looking at me like that and I might get you pregnant, sweetheart.”
Azriel as a dad? A DILF? Fuck yeah.
“Do it then, knock me up, Azzie.”
————————————————————————
The pregnancy
You stood in front of the mirror, frowning as you tried to zip up your cute, frilly mini skirt. It wasn’t fitting quite like it used to. “Hm, there must be something wrong with this skirt. It’s not fitting me anymore,” you muttered, tugging at it a little. You huffed in frustration but quickly brightened. “Oh well, I guess that means it’s time to go shopping!”
You slipped on your favorite pair of black Manolos, but as you tried to squeeze your feet into them, they didn’t quite cooperate. You wiggled your toes and huffed again, forcing them in. “No way are my Manolos not fitting. They have to. These are my favorite!” you said, your voice tinged with frustration as you took a few shaky steps, struggling to balance.
Azriel walked in, his brow furrowing in concern when he saw you wobbling. “Everything okay, love?” His gaze drifted down to your feet, then to your stomach. He couldn’t help but notice how your clothes didn’t seem to fit as they usually did.
You stumbled a little, catching yourself on the vanity. “I don’t get it, Azzie. This skirt and my shoes… why aren’t they fitting? I haven’t changed that much have I ?!” Your confusion was evident as you looked at him, a little panicked.
Honestly, it had been three years since you graduated college and two since getting married. Did you just put on some weight?
You turned your head to Azriel, hands clamped infront of you in all seriousness. God you were totally gonna die if he said yes. “Azzie, am i getting fat?”
“No, no, sweetheart,” Azriel said quickly, his hands gently brushing over your arms, his touch soothing as if to reassure you that everything was okay. “You look healthy. I promise.”
You raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. “But… Azzie,” you gestured at your shoes, “these are my Manolos, they should always fit!”
Azriel chuckled softly, his smile warm and affectionate. “Do you want to get new ones?” he asked, his voice light as he gently helped you out of your clothes, clearly more focused on making you comfortable than anything else.
You let out a sigh, the panic easing just a bit. “That sounds nice, Azzie. Thanks,” you said softly, your voice filled with gratitude, feeling the love in every small thing he did for you.
Not just the small things—but the big things too. Azriel’s job was stupidly well-paying, and he was loaded. It was a reward for all his hard work in school, and it made you so proud. He was the main provider and never expected a penny from you, spoiling you rotten and taking the promise of taking care of you very seriously.
He knew you’d lived a life of glamour and glitz, and lord knows he wasn’t about to mess that up. Azriel had even told your father that he’d step up and take care of you the second he landed his job as a very important something at a tech company…thingy. You never really knew what he did, but he was so hardworking and cool that it didn’t really matter.
Azriel noticed the changes in you immediately. You were moodier than usual, avoiding your favorite foods—especially your beloved strawberry sweets—and, to top it all off, you’d missed your period. He knew your cycle well and tracked it enough to know that a missed period was a rare occurrence. And you? Avoiding your favorite sour strawberry candy? That was unheard of.
Azriel couldn’t help but also notice how extra clingy you’d become, but he didn’t mind in the slightest. He loved you dearly, after all. You wrestled normally very clingy but not like this. For the past two weeks, you had been practically glued to his side.
You napped on top of him like you couldn’t bear to be apart for even a second. You wrapped yourself around him as if you were a koala bear, holding on tight while he read or worked. And when he left the house—even for just a few minutes, you’d become teary-eyed, giving him a sad pout as if he were leaving for an eternity.
It was both endearing and a bit concerning for him. Azriel couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but the sudden shift in your behavior made him wonder. Was something off? Was this just a phase? Or, as he suspected, was it something more?
Either way, he couldn’t deny that he secretly loved the extra closeness. He’d never seen you so needy, and God you were needy at times, but it made him feel needed in a way that was deeply comforting. He would brush your hair from your face and kiss your forehead, trying his best to reassure you when you would cry about the most random things—like when he’d gone to grab groceries for ten minutes, or when he had to step out to take a call.
“You okay, love?” he asked softly, brushing a few stray hairs behind your ear as you curled up next to him once again.
“I just missed you, Azzie,” you replied, your voice small but full of affection as you nuzzled into his side before you sobbed again.
Azriel chuckled lightly, his fingers tracing comforting patterns on your back. “I’m right here, sweetheart. It’s okay.”
It was a little intense, but it also made his heart swell to know just how much you needed him.
He had a strong hunch that you might be pregnant, but he couldn’t say for sure yet. So, being the overprepared and cautious person he was, he did what any sane person would do: he bought eight different pregnancy tests.
“Juuuust to be sure,” he muttered to himself as he set the tests down on the bathroom counter, glancing over at you. You were sitting on the bed, still unaware of his little purchase.
He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but he was seeing the changes in you. And it really didn’t help that you were fucking like bunnies everywhere, everyday for so long without any protection.
Azriel cleared his throat, looking far too calm for someone who had just bought eight pregnancy tests. “So, sweetheart, I think I know what’s going on with you. You might be pregnant. And I’ve bought you the market’s top-rated tests.” He said it with a certain air of professionalism, like he was pitching an idea, and it left you utterly confused.
You stared at him, blinking. “Huh? Eight tests? Ain’t that kind of… a bit much?”
Azriel, however, was completely unfazed. “You see, my love, you can never be too careful. And I also suggest we visit a doctor’s office.” He handed you a massive glass of water, like it was a peace offering. “Just to help smooth things over,” he added, his eyes darting away, a faint blush creeping across his face when you arched an eyebrow at the absurdly large glass of water.
You stared at the massive glass of water, then back at Azriel. “Azzie, this is, like, a lotta water. You trying to drown me or something?” you giggled, swirling the glass dramatically before gulping it down with determination.
Azriel’s lips twitched into a smile, but he stayed close, clearly taking this whole situation very seriously. His gentle instincts wouldn’t allow for anything less.
With all eight pregnancy tests clutched in your hands, you made your way to the bathroom. “You’re staying right outside, right?” you asked, pointing a manicured finger at him. “I need you with me, Azzie baby.”
Azriel nodded, leaning against the wall like the dutiful husband he was. “Yes, ma’am, I’ll be just outside.”
After a few tense minutes, you stepped out of the bathroom, wide-eyed, holding up the tests like some dramatic reveal on a reality show.
Each one displayed a positive result—two lines, a digital readout, even one that estimated how far along you were in weeks. No doubt about it. You were pregnant.
You blinked down at the assortment of tests, then back at Azriel, your voice trembling. “Azzie,” you whispered, tears welling up. “We’re having a baby.”
Azriel’s eyes softened, wonder filling his expression as he stepped closer, gently cupping your face. “My love,” he said, voice low and filled with awe. “We’re having a baby.”
You sniffled, overwhelmed, then suddenly let out a laugh through your tears. “Oh my god, I’m actually going to freak out! I already love her so much—I think I’m gonna be sick.”
Azriel’s lips curved into a soft laugh, his thumb brushing tenderly over your cheek. “Her? You think it’s a girl?”
You nodded lovingly. “Totally. I just know it, Azzie. You’re so a girl dad. And she’s gonna be adorable and for sure super smart, just like you.”
Azriel’s laugh deepened, warm and genuine. “Then she’ll be perfect, just like her mom,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
Pregnancy was unique, and Azriel found it endlessly charming. The way you waddled around in your third trimester never failed to make his heart swell. You didn’t think it was cute, but to Azriel, it was nothing short of endearing. And he made sure to let you know it every chance he got.
It hadn’t started out easy, though. Morning sickness had you in its grasp for weeks, and you couldn’t help but blame Azriel for it every time it hit. One day, after a particularly rough attempt at cooking chicken, you were hunched over the toilet, and when Azriel walked by, you just couldn’t help yourself.
“You did this to me!” you yelled, your voice a mix of frustration and nausea. “I’m sick, and it’s all your fault, Azriel. God, I can’t even eat chicken anymore and—”
But your rant was cut short when the reminder of the chicken hit you again, and you immediately had to empty your guts once more.
Azriel stood there, helpless but always ready to support you. He nodded in agreement, his face a mixture of amusement and sympathy. “It’s all my fault,” he agreed quickly, his voice full of mock guilt. “I’m so sorry for getting you pregnant. How irresponsable of me.”
You shot him a look, rolling your eyes. “Yeah, it’s totally your fault,” you said dramatically, sinking down onto the cool bathroom floor and leaning your head on his shoulder as he crouched next to you.
Azriel didn’t mind; he just wrapped an arm around you, offering comfort. Even as you faced the discomforts of pregnancy, you refused to wear anything you didn’t like. You weren’t about to settle for ugly maternity clothes, not when you could still squeeze into your regular outfits. And so what if your t-shirt was riding up your stomach? it was still cute and you’d wear just that. It was just you plus a bump.
Even with you sick and throwing up left and right, Azriel didn’t think he’d ever seen you so beautiful. You were glowing and had this ethereal beauty surrounding you at all times. It made no sense at times that someone as beautiful as you existed.
In these final weeks, the fear of giving birth and the reality of taking care of the baby were your biggest worries. Azriel, always attentive, made sure to check on you daily, asking if you had any pain, discomfort, or thoughts you needed to share.
You sighed deeply, looking over at him. “Well, I’m kinda scared, baby.”
Azriel scooted closer, rubbing your feet, and the second his hands made contact, it felt like a weight lifted from your shoulders. His touch was like magic, calming your racing thoughts.
“Yeah? Wanna talk about it?”
You bit your lip, hesitating for a moment before speaking. “I’m scared of giving birth, ya know? I watched some videos, and honestly, I’d rather not do it at all. Like, babies should be born painlessly, right? I know it’s gonna hurt like a bitch, and I’m just… terrified.”
Azriel leaned in, his hand still caressing your foot gently. “I won’t lie to you, honey, it’s gonna be scary,” he admitted, his voice soft but steady. “But listen to me: you’re not going to be alone. I’m going to be right there with you, every step of the way. I’ll hold your hand, I’ll be the one to remind you how strong you are. If anyone can do this, it’s you.”
You let out a shaky breath, leaning back into him, feeling his warmth and the sincerity of his words. The fear didn’t disappear entirely, but with him beside you, it seemed just a little more manageable. “I jus’ don’t wanna mess it up. I want to be a good mom, ya know?”
“You’ll be an amazing mom. The best,” Azriel said without hesitation, his voice full of certainty. “You’ve already proven that. And we’ll be doing this together, so you’ll never be alone.”
You smiled, feeling a little braver. “Thanks, Azzie. I really needed to hear that.”
“Always, sweetheart,” he murmured, his hand still holding yours with a tenderness that made you feel like you could take on anything. “I’m not going anywhere.”
You smirked, raising an eyebrow. “So, does this officially make you a dilf?”
Azriel chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. “Yeah, and just like that, you’re a milf,” he teased, his smile growing as he gave your belly a gentle rub.
You liked the sound of that, you and Azriel officially being hot parents.
“Okay, I need this baby to get the fuck out.”
Yes, that’s right. You were still very pregnant, and it was starting to drive you mad. Hot one second, cold the next, hungry then nauseous. Everything felt off, and you were so uncomfortable. You were too damn pregnant.
“Oh my god, just get out, get out, get outtttt!”
Azriel stood next to you, trying to be supportive as usual. He was breathing way too loud, and standing just a little too close. “Seriously, breathe louder, Az. That’s just great,” you snapped, throwing your hands up in frustration. Your pink diamond ring caught the light, and your eyes narrowed in irritation.
“Sorry, I’ll just stop,” he said casually, clearly not bothered by your outburst.
Great. Now you felt fucking awful. He wasn’t the one who’d been throwing up for the past few months but he’d been the one holding your hair back, rubbing your feet, and making sure you were comfortable 24/7. You definitely didn’t want to stop breathing because that would cause him to die and you just couldn’t have that.
“‘m sorry,” you said, your voice shaky as you reached for him, burying your face in his shoulder. “Didn’t mean to snap. I don’t want you to stop breathing. You’re not annoying, I’m just—” you sniffled, feeling like a mess. “I love you so much, but gods, I’m so over being pregnant. I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. Please don’t hate me.”
Azriel’s eyes softened as you broke down into his shoulder, his hand instinctively moving to soothe you. He wrapped you in his arms, pulling you closer as he gently rubbed your back, his presence steady and grounding.
“I know, sweetheart,” he murmured, his voice low and comforting. “I know you’re done. You’ve been so strong this whole time, and I’m proud of you. But we’re almost there. Just a little longer.”
You sniffled, your face buried in his shirt, feeling the warmth of his embrace despite the chaos swirling in your mind. “I just feel like I’m going to lose it. I’m too hot, then cold. I can’t eat without feeling sick, and everything aches. I just want her here already. I love her so much, but I can’t do this anymore.”
Azriel chuckled softly, trying to lighten the mood. He kissed the top of your head, his lips lingering for a moment as he whispered, “How about we get her out by going for a walk and eating something spicy? Heard that works wonders. And if that doesn’t, uh… I heard sex helps.”
The blush creeping up his neck was unmistakable, and your heart squeezed at how he still managed to get shy around you.
You grinned through your tears. “How about we skip all that and head straight to the part where you fuck me real good?”
Azriel’s lips curved into a slow smile, though his face was still red. “Y-Yeah—hell yeah. Let’s do that.”
And he did. One very good fuck fest and 7 hours of labor brought your beautiful baby girl into the world. She was perfect—so tiny, so sweet, and when she opened her eyes, they were unmistakably Azriel’s.
“You did it, sweetheart,” Azriel whispered as he held her close, his voice thick with emotion. “She’s here. Our babygirl is finally here. Thank you, my love. For blessing us. For your hard work. I’m so proud of you.”
Azriel kissed you deeply and as you looked at your baby girl and the love of your life, you knew every ache and tear had been worth it.
—————————————————————————
Life
You kissed the top of her head, her soft black hair looking just like her father’s. You sat on the couch with your 6-month-old baby girl nestled in your arms. When she was born, she looked just like you, but as she grew older, her sneaky little features started looking more and more like Azriel’s.
You loved her so freaking much, and sometimes you’d just start crying out of nowhere. She was a tiny part of you, someone you made with love. It was honestly wild.
“Oh, my sweetest baby angel. You’re all mine, and I love you sooo much, yes I do! Yes I do!” you cooed, nuzzling your nose against her tiny button one, making her giggle wildly. She was seriously a masterpiece. Like, such a cutie.
After feeding and rocking her, her soft snores filled the room, and you found yourself counting each adorable little breath. Pregnancy had been… a lot. You weren’t exactly the sharpest crayon in the box, and sometimes you worried about whether you’d be a good mom. But Azzie had always been there.
Carefully, you stood up and tiptoed to her bedroom, which was right next to yours and Azriel’s so you could get to her super quickly if she fussed. You gently laid her down and pulled out all the baby monitors you had stocked up on. No way were you taking chances with your baby girl.
And sure, maybe three monitors and an Owlet sock was a tiny bit much, but whatever. And Azriel totally agreed.
You found him standing next to the door, still clad in his handsome dress shirt and slacks. Your walked over to him as you slumped your body against his, melting against his chest and wrapping your arms around his waist. "Every day I thank the gods we didn't end up with a fussy baby. she goes to sleep so easy." he smiled, placing his chin on the top of your head.
Here’s a cleaned-up and polished version while keeping her adorable, slightly flustered tone intact:
“Right? She’s totally in sync with me, and I’m so happy she’s so calm.”
“I really missed you today. A lot.”
Your heart started beating faster. Azriel was so casual about stuff like that, and it made you blush every time. He used to be shy and reserved about sharing his feelings, but now he’d just say it right to your face without hesitation.
And, of course, it turned you into a blushing mess over a few simple words.
“Y-you did? I missed you too.”
His arms tightened around your waist, pulling you closer. His voice dropped to that low, heart-melting tone he knew drove you wild.
“I missed you very much. Very, very much. And I’m going to show you exactly how much.” You giggle and blush like crazy when be grabs your waist and carefully chucks you over his shoulder, giving your ass a loud smack.
God, you love your life.

Hi!! I saw your requests are open for fluff and I love your writing and have an idea currently plaguing my mind if you are interested (but no worries if not!) 🩵
There’s this girl on tiktok who does rejection therapy where she makes little requests to strangers with the expectation of being denied, but sometimes the outcome is super sweet. I think it would be cute for a kinda shy reader to be doing rejection therapy and ask Spencer (or any of the BAU) to like play rock paper scissors or hold their badge or something with the expectation of being rejected, only to be pleasantly surprised when she isn’t rejected
Spencer Reid x Fem! Reader Trope: Fluff! Just fluff w.c: 1.33k A/N: Slowly defrosting my request box purely for fluff. I do feel a bit rusty in writing again, it's a muscle I've forgotten to exercise on the daily. I am no chess player so I honestly don't know how to write a game. Anon, I hope this still lives up to your imagination! Main masterlist

Hushed adult chatter and boisterous children’s laughter filled the greening park, once cold and barren from the winter past. The sun, as if still shy to take center stage, peeked behind a cloud of white curtains. Vibrant hues of picnic blankets scattered all over the green grass, books and wicker baskets keeping them from going with the windy breeze.
Over the past few weeks, you’ve gotten comfortable in the new city you now call home. Bringing the tumbler of coffee against your moistened lips, the corners of your mouth lifted to form a soft smile, marveling from how far you’ve come. This city now contained your coffee shop down the block, your bookstore tucked between alleyways, and your park nestled in the middle of the bustling city.
Your therapist was excited for this new chapter of your life, coaxing you to take baby steps away from your cocoon and enjoy what it had to offer. Filled with slight trepidation a few weeks ago, you sat on the exact same bench, back rod straight and hands wringing from the unknown when a group of men, ages of all varying degrees, had caught your eye. They were gathered under the shade from two great trees, seated and hunched over, playing various states of chess.
Fascinating.
They kept to themselves, something you could relate to. As Saturdays and Sundays passed on, you found yourself wondering why there seemed to be no women or any newcomers, to be exact, that join in the fray. Do people not feel the draw? Is it only you who found them intriguing?
Movement caught the corner of your eye.
A new face walking towards the gaggle of men—or to be exact, hobbling towards with crutches under his armpits, to an unoccupied chess table. His eyes scanning along the throng of players before briefly looking down and tapping his uninjured foot to an inconspicuous beat.
You observed him with fascination and anticipation, wanting to see if any of the usual faces would join in on his table, allowing him to be absorbed into the otherwise impenetrable group.
Five minutes.
Then ten, the seat in front of him remained empty.
You briefly wondered if you could do it—you weren’t after all bad at chess, being a past player in high school. Not that you won more than three competitions, joining the team was purely an excuse for extra credits and to get out of physical education.
Could you do it?
Could you walk up to a complete male stranger and ask for a game?
Could you take the rejection that may come with it?
Gnawing on your lip, you found yourself moving closer and closer, steps quiet and hesitant but each shuffle ringing in your ear. His eyes, feeling the change in the wind and your upcoming presence, met yours—both wide-eyed and unsure.
He seemed to be just like you, a doe-eyed deer stepping out of their hiding for predators lying in the wait. A gust of breath escaped your lips, a measly amount of strength returning to your tightly strung body.
“H-hi,” you whispered.
He blinked before clearing his throat. “Hi, how can I—” his gaze tracking the path of your gaze, the opposite black pieces on the chess board. “Do you, do you want to play?”
You timidly smiled. “If you’d have me, yes.”
“Yes,” a smile forming on his face, hands fighting to push the wayward curls behind his pinking ears. “Of course, please.”
Gingerly seating on the marbled seat, you muttered a ‘thank you’ under your breath, one you were sure he didn’t hear.
No words were exchanged further as he moved his white pieces with grace. It was a complete contrast to yours, rusty and unsure even to that moment as to what you were actually doing seating in front of a chess genius. That was who he was, you realized, as he ate another of your pawn. Perhaps this was why no one dared to occupy the seat. He was no outsider or meek prey, he was the king (or prince) and the predators of all chess enthusiasts in the group.
You could feel the heat from the gazes of the spectators, other tables long abandoned to view and scrutinize the eventual downfall of the challenger. Whispers of strategies under their breaths and shakes of their head as they predict the next thirty-seventh move.
Briefly you wondered if you should just call it quits, wanting to hide from the pressure. But isn’t this a prime opportunity to take further steps away from your comfort zone? Isn’t that was your therapist would have wanted? Perhaps, you were expecting rejection in the beginning and now that you were in the thick of it, you wished that it had come instead. The sweet ‘no’ from his handsome stranger’s lips rather than feeling your nerves fray from the trap laid in front of you—a pawn in perfect position to take his queen on c1.
“Would you like to take a break?” he asked, expecting his voice to be filled with mockery and superiority, but rather was coated with the sweet, worrying tone you’d expect from a doting grandmother.
Shaking your head no, moving your king away from endangerment—g8 to h7.
Your opponent smiled before quickly taking his turn with a pawn.
The game continued on in such manner, give and take, between two strangers turned opponents. You could feel the end coming as his moves further stalled, now requiring the handsome stranger to assess the remaining pieces on the board to his gain. In turn, you studied him.
The ends of his hair brushing against the middle of his long neck. Its’ roots sticking to his forehead, shiny from perspiration. Sleeves of his button down haphazardly folded to expose his forearm and one subtle vein that disappears and appears as he moves. You doubted he was any older but the underlying confidence brimming underneath his humility made you think he’d been exposed to the underbelly of the world, long before you did.
Seven moves later, he flashed you another smile—bigger and more joyous than you’ve seen. “Draw.”
The spectators stilled into silence. A rarity, one of the older gentlemen whispered under their breath before everyone brought into an applause.
It happened in a flash causing breath to be caught in your throat. You’ve done it. The game was over. You’ve gone above and beyond from what your therapist had asked you to do—her “rejection therapy” leading you to an unknown you couldn’t wait to explain.
“Good game,” he breathed out.
You nodded, watching as his right hand reached out in between, casting a shadow on his knocked over king. “Oh—” lifting your hands in front of you to act as a barrier. “I’m not much of a—the number of pathogens passed during a handshake—”
“Is staggering. It’s actually safer to kiss,” he continued on before chuckling to himself, hand still extended out regardless of the trivia being shared between you two. “Not that I’m saying we should but yeah, I’m not much of a ‘handshake-r’ myself.”
Giggling, you slowly reached for his awaiting hand, giving him a way out before both palms met and fingers locked around it.
It was warm, like the sun that was no longer hiding behind the curtain of clouds, like a tumbler of freshly brewed coffee made by your favorite barista.
“I’m Spencer. Spencer Reid.”
Your cheeks heated. “Nice to meet you, Spencer Reid. I’m Y/N.”
Hands still firmly connected across the chess game long forgotten, both of you seemingly unwilling to let go of the physical connection.
He cleared his throat. “Would you like to play again sometime?”
“If you’d have me again, yes.” Briefly biting your lip before taking another brave step, creating another ‘rejection therapy’ moment. “Or we could have coffee or tea sometime?”
You waited with bated breath.
The corners of his eyes crinkled and another breathtaking smile painted his face.
“I’d like that. I’d really like that.”

Valentine’s Day. Fact: One of the most dreaded holidays in the world. Fact: Your most dreaded holiday in the world.
The argument was always the same. The holiday was consumeristic and materialistic at best, honing the potential to be one of capitalism’s best schemes. The holiday was also endearing, allowing couples, throuples, or any other romantic grouping, for that matter, to be celebrated and cherish. Love was love. And all love wins.
In this argument, however, you were right smack bang in the middle.
If you saw another stuffed teddy bear with its beady eyes and heart in hands, yes, you could throw up. But as much as you wanted to bleach your eyes out at the levels of PDA you had seen, a small part of you fawned over it.
Truth be told, the only thing you hated was the fact that you weren’t experiencing any of it. Sure, there were times where you went on the occasional Valentine’s date (not that you recommended it) but nothing ever lasted. And to be honest, your heart wasn’t in it. Your heart, with a mind of its own, had decided it belonged with a certain friend of yours.
You sighed, falling back first into your couch. You held your desk calendar high, eyeing the ‘14’ circled numerous times by you. Here you were, alone on Valentine’s Day, for the fourth year in a row, again.
“Fucking hell,” you murmured, tossing the harbinger of devastation to the side.
You looked around your apartment, only just holding in another sigh. It looked barren. Even though it was filled with paintings, books, and colourful furniture, nothing about it looked like someone was in love. It was as though it lacked soul.
It was decided. You were having an absolutely miserable morning. Even more so when you could hear your doorbell ring. The static of your intercom buzzed, capturing your attention. “Hello? Is a certain girl obsessed with chocolate home?” A familiar voice sung.
Pushing down the small flutter in your stomach, you dramatically groaned to the empty air in your apartment as you stood up. Walking over to your intercom, you eyed the video feedback of Oscar smiling and patiently waiting for you to let him in. You pressed the button on your intercom. “You better be coming bearing gifts.”
You could see Oscar feign a gasp. “I can’t believe you even asked,” he stated, arm dangling a mystery bag in the air.
You rolled your eyes, small smile playing on your lips. With your finger moving to a nearby button, you let him come up. Stalking back to your couch, you turned on your television, idly channel surfing. You weren’t quite sure why you were still playing for your TV box, but ever so occasionally, it brought you something charming.
Your eyes moved to the open door of your apartment, watching Oscar come in from your peripheral. “What is it you want, you absolute cretin?”
“That is not a kind thing to say on such a lovely day,” Oscar commented sarcastically, walking over to your kitchen to place his bag down.
You rested your cheek on your hand, laying on your side as you moved your eyes between Oscar and the television. “Well... to be fair, I wasn’t expecting your face on what you call such a ‘lovely’ day,” you retorted, thumb still clicking on the remote.
You weren’t exactly lying. Oscar was the last person you wanted to see on Valentine’s Day. He was another sore reminder of what you should be doing on a day like this. There was nothing more dangerous than having the person who makes your heart race in your kitchen. A recipe for disaster, one might say.
It was Oscar’s turn to sigh. He stood in your kitchen, hands on his hips. “Well, aren’t you a ray of sunshine?” Oscar queried. “Sue me for wanting to spend time with my best friend on the loneliest day of the year.”
You sucked in a sharp breath at his words. Best friend. Ugh, you hated it. You hated that term. You didn’t want to be just his best friend. Risking this friendship, however, was not one you were willing to take.
You sighed dramatically once again, closing the television. Standing up from the couch, you joined Oscar to peer in his mystery bag. Carefully, you were able to quickly recognise the blocks of butter, eggs, icing sugar, chocolate, sprinkles, brown sugar...
“Are these baking ingredients?” You asked, looking over to Oscar.
Oscar grinned. “I know you don’t really like Valentine’s, so... I thought we could do some baking. Well, more like if you could teach me. I’ve been craving your chocolate cupcakes anyways.”
You blinked blankly. You weren’t sure how but your body felt warm all of a sudden. Your heart was beating just that bit faster.
Oscar knew you loved baking. It was one of your love languages. When you were happy, when you were sad, when you were overthinking and stressed... baking was always the answer.
“Oscar...” you started, “you know you don’t need an excuse to spend time with me, right?”
“Come on! Like I need an excuse to spend time with you,” Oscar said, gently nudging his arm with yours.
He laughed softly like the notion of your idea was crazy. Like your heart wasn’t beating uncontrollably. Like you weren’t forgetting the ability to breathe, let alone speak. And God, you hated it.
You cleared your throat, taking out the ingredients he brought from the bag. “Well, it seems like you brought at least half of the ingredients so well done,” you complimented with a small grin.
Laying out the items he brought, you began grabbing the rest from your pantry, collecting all the equipment needed on the way.
Oscar smiled, cheeks slightly reddening. “Thanks,” he mumbled, scratching the back of his neck as he watched you set out everything, clearly taking his idea on board. He silently took in the sight of you quietly getting into your element.
You looked so focused. He couldn’t hear what you were saying, probably something about the steps of making your cupcakes. And while he really should’ve been listening, he couldn’t help but fixate on your smile. The corners of your mouth upturned as you raved on about how your recipe was supposed to be a secret for a reason. He could see your smile in your eyes. You were happy. And God, he loved it.
“Oscar? Helloooo... earth to Oscar?” You waved your hand in front of his face, your soft laugh slowly dying out as he came back to reality, meeting your eyes. You swallowed hard. Why was he looking at you like that? Did you have something on your face?
Instinctively you reached out to find something but was met with relieving disappointment. “Uh, so as I was saying, the most important thing is to fill the cupcake liners halfway, okay? Not full. Halfway.”
“Halfway,” Oscar affirmed with a small nod. He clasped his hands and placed them on your benchtop. “Shall we get started?”
Time always seemed to fly by with Oscar. And yet it always felt slow in the best possible way. That was just the nature of spending time with him.
You couldn’t help but laugh to yourself as he took every single one of your instructions with careful attention. And although earnest in his endeavours, Oscar was absolutely useless in a kitchen.
“I said fold the mixture,” you complained, wincing at the lumpy brown goop of a mess, “That is not folding!”
Oscar looked up from the bowl, narrowing his eyes at you. “This is folding,” he retorted, proceeding to mix the cupcake mixture aggressively.
Before you knew it, bits of unbaked chocolate cupcake were flying in the air and over your face. The silence in your kitchen was deafening as the sound of Oscar resting the wooden spatula was resounding.
With your eyes shut, you sighed in defeat. Your fingers reached out to smear the cake batter across your lips and into your mouth. “Well, at least I know it tastes good.”
In the blink of an eye, Oscar grabbed the nearby tea towel, running it under some water. He stepped a bit too close to you for your liking. “I am so so sorry,” he apologised, gently propping your face in his hand as he slowly rubbed away the splotches of cupcake on your skin.
You kept quiet. You silently watched him cautiously clean your face meticulously. You weren’t sure if you could trust yourself to speak. Especially not if Oscar was barely a few centimetres away from you.
There were many things you admired about Oscar. His care for others. Or his detail to attention. Perhaps his smile that always seemed to brighten your day no matter what. Or the way he put others before himself. But one thing you always found yourself coming back to was his freckles. There weren’t many of them. They were sparsely spread out in such a way that you often found yourself playing connect the dots with them. And when you finished, it was all but inevitable to lose yourself in his eyes. To you, they were always these puppy brown eyes. But looking at him the way you were now...
“Your eyes have a little green in them,” you whispered.
Oscar paused, eyes flickering to meet yours. He stared at you what felt like forever. Every second that passed only increased your nerves. “Yeah?” He quietly quipped, voice soft as his eyes fell to your lips for a mere second.
Your breath hitched. God, he was beautiful.
“I–um, is the batter gone?” You asked, forcing yourself to avert your eyes. You let out a quick exhale as Oscar took a step back.
“Oh yeah, sorry,” he mumbled, giving you a tight smile.
Blowing some air into your cheeks, you eyed the cupcake-lined tray. “Should we fill these up and put them in the oven?”
“Halfway,” Oscar reminded, agreeing nonetheless.
━━━━━━━━━━━
You eyed Oscar comfortably lying on your couch, also participating in your channel surfing till how found some old cricket highlights of Australia vs Sri Lanka. You had already given him a cup of juice, some chips, and fruit to busy yourself and prevent yourself from overthinking about what happened earlier. However, you were beginning to find it very difficult.
Even as you sat on the floor horizontal to Oscar and did your laundry like you often did, you couldn’t help but replay the moment in your head.
You must’ve imagined Oscar looking at your lips. But you could’ve sworn... no. It must’ve been your mind playing tricks on you. The inescapable curse of Valentine’s Day. Fuck. Why did you even have to go and say he had green in his eyes? Stupid mouth.
You internally sighed, placing your folded sweater on the pile next to you. Your ears perked at the mention of your name. “Hmm?” You queried, grabbing a pair of jeans to fold.
Oscar looked over to you, leaning on his elbow. “I thought you were going out with Jake today?”
Ah yes. The actual truth of why you were boarded up in your apartment on Valentine’s Day. You had come close to breaking your lonely streak but you ended up backing out after having a mid-life crisis. From your experience, any relationship formed on a day bounded to cupids was bound to be short-lived.
“He cancelled and I agreed,” you shrugged, putting the jeans aside.
Now this peaked Oscar’s interest, having him sit up fully on the couch. “What? Why? What happened?” He asked a little too happily, brows mended to express his confusion.
Your mouth dried. What were you supposed to say? I just think Valentine’s Day brings perpetual doom?
You chewed on your bottom lip before releasing a small sigh. “I just wasn’t interested anymore,” you told him truthfully, resting your back on the front side of your chair comfortably.
“Why? You said he was nice and you had a lot in common?” Oscar reminded, now fully ignoring the cricket highlights.
You hated the small lump in your throat, a reminder of how much you hated when Oscar was invested in your love life. It was like he wanted you to date anyone but him. And it sucked.
“Yeah,” you agreed, “But he’s not...”
“He’s not...?” Oscar repeated.
He’s not you. That’s what you wanted to say.
Instead, you looked at him silently, taking in how intently he was listening to you. It made your heart flutter with a warmness and constrict with a sadness simultaneously. He cared for you. Just not in the way you wanted.
Oscar took your silence as a sign of not wanting to speak about it anymore. He sighed, sitting back into the couch. “Well, whatever. His loss. I’m glad you didn’t go.”
And there it was again. Oscar was always going around saying things that made you think and feel otherwise. He was glad? That on the loneliest day of the year, you were here alone, baking with your best friend which you also happened to be a little in love with?
"Oscar, why are you even here?” You asked, exasperation heavy in your voice as you looked at him tired eyes.
Oscar furrowed his brows, leaning up at your tone. “What do you mean?”
His tone wasn’t angry or humorous. It sounded like genuine confusion and that only irritated you that bit more.
“I mean here. In my apartment on Valentine’s Day?” You stressed. “I mean, has it ever occurred to you that we’ve spent more Valentine’s Days together than actually being with the people we’ve dated?”
Oscar pursed his lips together, mulling over your words. You were right. He couldn’t count the amount of Valentine’s or any other holiday he had spent with you on both hands let alone one. “What are you trying to say? You don’t like it?”
Yes. In fact, you hated it. Every year, it always meant it was another day you spent being just friends with him.
You let your head fall back onto the cushion of the couch. You stared hard at the ceiling, growing uncomfortable with the silence with every passing second. “I hate this,” you admitted after some time.
“Hate what?” Oscar asked with a frown making its way onto his face. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to hear what he was about to hear.
You swallowed hard. “I hate that I like you. A lot. I hate that I have to pretend not to like you every day.”
The silence only grew louder and it was almost deafening. You felt sick. You regretted saying anything at all.
“Same.”
“What?” You jerked your head to Oscar with an incredulous expression and kneaded brows. “What type of shitty response is that?”
Oscar looked at you with a flabbergasted look. “I...I–I feel the same way.”
You blinked blankly at him, making him sigh. He stood up from the couch, taking a seat next to you on the floor.
The hard yet soft look of Oscar’s puppy brown eyes made you want to look away and yet you found yourself staring back. He called your name softly, grabbing your hand gently with his. “I like you. More than you could ever imagine. I always just thought it would be stupid to risk our friendship so I tried pretending not to like you. That didn’t work. I actually think it made me fall in love with you. A little bit... or a lot.”
You weren't quite sure how to respond. You seemed to have lost the ability to speak. All you could think about was how flushed and sweaty you felt... and that Oscar freaking Piastri was in love with you.
“Can I kiss you?” Oscar murmured, leaning in ever so slowly.
You nodded silently, not trusting yourself to speak yet again.
You could feel his lips press against yours and God were they soft. You had thought about it more times than you probably should’ve. But the real thing was so much better.
You moved your lips, returning his kiss as his hands travelled up your jaw to your cheek. Fire. Your skin was on fire. You were melting into his grasp upon the feel of his touch. And yet, goosebumps littered every inch of your skin, making you shudder.
Hesitantly and unwillingly, you pulled apart from each other, letting your foreheads rest on each other. Your cheeks burned as you looked at Oscar, eyes flickering to each freckle before resting on the green in his eyes. “Osc,” you whispered.
“Mmm?” He queried, playing with your hands softly as he watched you process everything.
You planted a brief kiss to the corner of his lips. “I love you too.”
Oscar smiled widely, shoulders falling as though all the weight on them had been relieved. “I’m glad,” he commented.
“Sorry for being an asshole,” you mumbled sheepishly, a wave of embarrassment travelling over your body. You found it hard to believe you were even annoyed a couple minutes ago.
He laughed softly, shaking his head. “It’s okay.”
"I mean... for the record, I definitely wasn’t folding the batter,” Oscar admitted.
“Ha! I knew it!” You exclaimed, hitting him lightly on the arm. “You mix like Basil digging up dirt.”
Oscar’s small smile turned into a dramatic gasp. Preparing himself to attack you, he jokingly warned you, “Take that back.”
Timed perfectly, you heard the timer on your phone ring throughout your apartment. The smell of chocolate muffins wafted in the air. You stood up from the floor and turned to Oscar with a wide grin. “Ready to decorate?”
“As long as you let me decorate one cupcake,” he bargained, looking up at you as he held his hand out.
You smiled, clasping his hand to pull him up. “Deal.”

Quantico is buzzing.
Phones ringing off the hook, agents shuffling out early, everyone murmuring about the incoming snowstorm barreling towards Virginia, the warnings coming in fast.
Hotch left just minutes ago, reminding the team to head home before the storm hits.
Morgan followed, same with Garcia and Emily and JJ and Rossi hours ago.
And now… Spencer’s alone. He blinks at the clock on the wall. 7:12pm.
The office is nearly empty, just two agents still packing up at their desks, but he knows they’ll probably be gone soon.
And then he frowns. Because he knows you probably left before the rush of the evening crowd, you hate the crowds. But you’ve lost track of time before—many times, in fact, and instead waited for the end of the evening rush to head out.
But today he just has a… a weird feeling. Like something’s wrong, a tugging low in his gut that just won’t settle.
So he grabs his scarf and his messenger bag and heads onto the elevator, pressing B3 instead of G.
He watches the numbers drop on the screen as he descends three levels below the rest of the FBI.
As soon as the doors open—cold. Dry, stinging cold.
Like, actual, literal basement air-conditioning-in-February cold. The kind of cold that bites at your skin, sinks into your very bones and stays there.
And the hallway here is always cold but this- this makes Spencer tug his coat a little closer to himself.
He walks to the only door, peeking into the room labeled Records Archive like he has before.
“Hello?” he calls out. “Dewey? Are you still here?”
No answer.
Just the faint hum of the vents and the shuffling of paper and the clicking of the long-busted space heater.
Wait… shuffling of paper?
He steps in further, about to call out again when—
A sneeze.
He rounds the corner of a hulking shelf to find you curled up on the floor, huddled under three thick blankets with a coat on, boxes of files scattered around you like a little fort.
You look frozen—your poor nose. He’s half-convinced it’s about to chip like glass. Your lips are trembling, your fingers, gloveless and shivering, grip the folder in your hands tightly.
You’re actually shaking.
Spencer gapes at you, all shock and worry. “Oh my god,” he drops to a crouch, panicked and furrowing his brows tightly. “What are you still doing here? Why didn’t you go home?” There’s something not far off from horror in his voice. “It’s freezing down here.”
You blink at him, tired, a little hazy. Dazed, in a way. You look at him blearily, like you’ve just woken up from a nap. “Metro’s shut down.”
His brows don’t relax from their tightly knitted form. “Why didn’t you take a cab?” he asks, taking the folder out of your hands and setting it on a box nearby.
You shrug lamely. “…I don’t trust taxis.”
There’s a pregnant pause, Spencer eyeing you carefully. There’s a glint in your eye, one he doesn’t recognize. He sighs, fully dropping to a kneel now. His coat is wrapped tightly around him, and it’s really fucking cold in here, but he shrugs it off and drapes it over your shoulders anyway.
His hands rub gently up and down your upper arms, bringing some warmth to your body. “Do you trust me?” he asks softly, warm brown eyes peering into yours.
And it’s that that breaks you. Not the cold, not the incoming snow, not even this cold, dark, underground room.
It’s him. Just that look on his face, kind and earnest and concerned and—god, you don’t know if anyone’s ever asked you that before.
So you nod. Slowly, softly, hesitant, perhaps. But no less sure.
And he smiles, this soft, warm little thing that curls gently at his lips.
He moves to a crouch again, taking your trembling hands into his as he helps you stand from the ground. “Okay.”
You follow him out of the records room slowly, quietly, his hand hovering just over your back. You’re wearing your own coat with his still draped overtop, having shrugged off the blankets and left them in a heap on the floor. You’re going to have to clean up tomorrow.
You feel warm, though. For the first time, perhaps, in this frigid hallway of sublevel three.
His hand brushes yours gently in the elevator, just once. Just enough.
You don’t pull away.
You’re walking out of the lobby and towards the parking lot when he speaks up. “You don’t trust cabs?” he asks softly, curiously. There’s no interrogation in his voice, just genuine wonder.
You shake your head silently. You haven’t for a long time. Too risky. Too personal. Too dangerous.
He smiles warmly, opening the passenger side door of his car for you. “I’d like it if you would tell me, one day. Why, I mean.”
You blink up at him, seating yourself in the car. “You want to hear?”
Spencer just looks at you like you’ve said something ridiculous, preposterous, like you shouldn’t have had to ask. “Of course. It’s you.”
You’re silent as he rounds the car and starts the engine.
He drives you home in his little beat up Volvo, heater on full blast, the softest tones of Bob Dylan’s Shelter from the Storm coming from the radio.
You almost laugh at the irony of it all, but he’s already pulling into an empty spot in your building’s parking lot, and you’re about to get out when he’s turning off the ignition and getting out of the car himself.
You blink in confusion as he rounds the front of the car, opening your door for you. He helps you out with a warm, gentle hand in yours and you just… stare up at him.
Spencer simply shrugs. “I’d like to walk you up, if that’s alright,” he says plainly. “Just make sure you get inside okay.”
The snow’s falling a little heavier now, the big white flakes landing in his fluffy hair and on his shoulders and, oh.
He looks pretty like this.
You just nod, pushing the thought away as a tiny hint of a smile tugs at your lips as you lead him upstairs.
You unlock and open your apartment door and he looks around.
It’s… sparse. Empty. Quiet.
Bare walls, but cozy corners. There’s a thick blanket on the back of the couch and stacks of books on the floor. Historical prints, file boxes used as bookshelves, a cup of tea half-drunk on the coffee table, a mahogany throw pillow on the chair.
He stares for a moment. Then smiles. “It’s nice,” he says, hands nervously wringing at the strap of his messenger bag.
You blink at him, turning around to face him. “Really?” you ask, brows furrowing in veritable confusion.
“Mhm,” he nods, still smiling. That kind of soft, shy, sideways smile that reaches his eyes and nowhere else. The kind he gets when he’s being totally genuine. “I don’t know. It feels like you.”
And really- it should be an insult. This place is barren.
But… it is you, isn’t it? Little else but papers and history and warmth? Browns and greys and all comfort and home?
You smile up at him, shy and a little nervous. “Thank you, Dr. Reid. For the ride.”
He nods. “I wanted to, honestly.” He huffs a laugh. “I can’t believe you were going to stay in the records room.”
You wince. “Yeah, maybe a bad idea in hindsight.”
“It was really cold down there.”
“I know. Thank you again,” you smile.
He backs up a step. “Anytime, really.” His eyes glance to the elevator. “I’ll um,” he clears his throat. “I’ll see you tomorrow?”
You nod shakily. “For sure. I’ll see you then.”
And when you close the door, your little apartment feels just a tad warmer than it did last night, even as the weather rages outside.
But you pause as you’re toeing off your shoes.
Spencer’s coat still rests on your shoulders.
You fling the door back open and peek down the hallway but- he’s gone.
You sigh. You really will have to see him tomorrow.
And somehow, the thought makes you smile.
