Glance: At first glance, what stands out most about your OC’s appearance? What’s their distinguishing features?

Dhaveira is albino so her pale skin, white hair and red eyes tend to grab people’s attention almost immediately. Her eyes especially tend to draw attention because of the contrast between red eyes and pale skin. Can i say that her distinguishing feature is that she kind of looks like a ghost?

Stature: What’s your OC’s body type? How tall are they? Do they wear clothing to accentuate their look or do they try to mask it?

Girly is 4’9”, birdboned and wispy as fuck. You could pick her up and put her in your pocket if you wanted to. I don’t think she really intentionally wears clothes to hide or accentuate her stature. She is pretty neutral about her stature most of time and doesn’t really mind if her wardrobe happens to accentuate it(unless someone is specifically poking fun at her about it)

Stillness: How does your OC act while still? Are they fidgety? Do they have any common gestures or tics? Does their clothing affect how they hold themselves?

She fidgets a lot, she spends alot of her time with the dead trying to claw their way back to the world through her and it leaves her restless and unable to relax. Because of this she wears a lot of little charms and bracelets that she can fidget with when her restlessness is particularly intense. Her clothes also have quite a lot of embroidery from her brother that she likes to trace over mindlessly. Her clothes and the additions she has made to them make it alot easier for her to stand still without feeling like she’s going to jump out of her own skin.

Night: What does your OC wear to sleep? Do they have a favorite pair of PJs, or are they more the birthday suit type?

She tends to wear nightgowns to bed, as i mentioned above most of her clothes have embroidery done by her brother and that includes her PJs. She also definitely steals articles of clothing from her loved ones to use as PJs sometimes because it makes her feel safe.

Texture: Does your OC favor any specific kinds of cloth or textures? Is there anything they can’t wear or don’t like? What sort of fabrics do they prefer?

Dhaveira has a very strong preference for fabrics with soft texture. She’s really sensitive to different textures and absolutely despises rough or scratchy textures, it makes her feel all itchy and makes her want to take off her skin (surprise surprise the weirdgirl is autistic and has sensory issues)

Makeup: Does your OC wear makeup? How often? What kind? Why do they wear makeup, do they like it?

I don’t think she wears makeup often, and when she does she really doesn’t wear much maybe a little bit of eyeshadow to draw more attention to her eyes and maybe some red or pink lip tint. Her cheeks are always really rosy so she has no need for blush. I think she likes accentuating her features, especially her eyes so she genuinely enjoys the rare occasions that she gets to do makeup.

Change: Has your OC drastically changed their appearance? Significant haircuts, big tattoos, complete wardrobe swap, etc? Why? How do they feel about the change?

Her appearance hasn’t changed much over the years, beyond her hair being significantly longer and the addition of more valaslin to her body. Besides the valaslin on her face she now has some on her hands, forearms, chest and back and she will likely continue to add more to it as time goes on. She is very proud of this change, because each valaslin marks a milestone in her life and her efforts to honor Falon’din. Her wardrobe has also changed slightly, mostly out of necessity because she was previously used to a much colder climate and now has had to adapt her wardrobe to a wider variety of climates.

she faced off with Death and he told her to live. this Death, who was much older than the Death she was supposed to meet, stared off with Yilfa for days until she succumbed to hunger and ate him alive. other iterations of death apologized to her for the story she was forced to suffer through, for the punishment she had to endure over an unrealistic and unabidable rule she was destined to break. her corrupted story turned her into the big bad wolf, into death itself. she sacrificed the beloved memory of her grandma, her namesake, so that her friends would be able to save their world. even though she gained it back in the end, she was willing to live the rest of her life as the wolf, a harbinger of death, and when she was reminded that she was just a child, that it wasn’t her responsibility to guide the dead, she cried, and separated from the wolf. she was able to grow up normal and happy after suffering from the looming presence of death. i’m gonna make me friend also submit yilfa bc they’re smarter than me and can make better propaganda

Monster based on human subconscious aka an Abnormality based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood (duh). In this story, she was mauled by the wolf (Big And Might Be Bad Wolf) who is based on all fairy tale wolf villains. Little Red then got to work plotting her revenge and making Bloodborne-esque gear for herself and the two Abnos are locked in eternal combat of hatred for one another

She's literally the coolest, just look at her. For people who might not be so familiar with her: She's one of the abnormalities that remain locked in the Lobotomy Corporation. Her past is somewhat unclear, but she has some horrid scars on her face due to the Big Bad Wolf and she swore vengeance upon him because of that incident. This lead her to become a mercenary and she looks 1000% scarier and more badass than the wolf lol. Also, asides from the fact that she may kill half of your team if she escapes containment, she is quite chill and will even help you take care of your problems if you pay her.

She is a very introspective and anxious person, she spends a lot of time silently worrying about things like mortality and social rules. So whenever she's freaking out about people cooking monsters, she doesn't actually have any personal objections to it, she's just watching people break the rules she has fixated on and is unsure what to do about it. Likewise, she fell in love with her girlfriend after watching her openly being a weirdo who scampers around in the wilderness to look for cool bugs.

And yet, for all of her worrying about fitting in, she never quite manages it. At the wizard school she was seen as a weirdo half-elf who does unusual experiments and gets too excited. Over the course of the manga, she travels in an adventuring party with a few other openly autistic people (and a chronically divorced hobbit), and she slowly opens up to them over time and becomes more okay with the idea of coming across as weird.

Anon you have no idea how long I've wanted to ramble on this crackship ❤️

Ok so it started as a joke between me and my friends where we were talking about Olivia doing blunt rotation and who from the termina cast should be invited for it, i said Samarie and one of them added like "for once her anxiety lessens" and i was like huh fun.

And i thought, hey with Samarie needing to be saved and brought back to the train on morning day 1 and Olivia (if she isn't the mc) not being able to leave the train area until day 2 that makes day 1 evening the prime time for them to meet because they're both in there and i doubt there's many others to talk with when the majority has left to explore the town. Which then made me realize that in this scenario Samarie gets to develop a real connection with someone that doesn't start with mind reading and stalking from her part but instead with a conversation, like a normal relationship.

This isn't to say that Samarie wouldn't mind read Olivia or become clingy, nah this is Samarie, she would absolutely still do that. Tho perhaps (emphasis on perhaps) to a lesser extent or at least trying to go about it differently? Since she saw how her ways of trying to show Marina that she cared seemed to have the opposite effect i like to think that when seing Olivia's toughts on her sister Samarie would try to stop herself from assuming that she hates her like how she assumed Marina hated her father and wanted him dead from using mind read on her.

There's also the fact that amongst the character interaction you can have after you've been tied up killing someone Olivia's is arguably the nicest one of them and she even seems conflicted about deeming the player character a monster or considering them beyond redemption after what they did, which in turn makes me think she could act in a similar manner to Samarie.

Is this accurate to canon? Most likely not, if i recal correctly Samarie tends to be less open to anyone who isn't Marina. But this is my beloved weirdgirl x weirdgirl ship and i like to imagine Samarie not ruining her relationship with a girl before it even starts

What about Terezi thoughts?

the thing with terezi, for me, is that she is quite possibly the only character to rival the level of unease and distrust i have for interpretations as i do with gamzee, in all the opposite ways. she was really important to me in the early days, because for all of the gripe i have about how it was ultimately handled, her story was always about her own guilt and attempts to reconstruct her own worldview because of that guilt, struggling with her own inability to justify herself because in ways she understands her own behaviors are rooted not in reality but in a position and expectation and place of power which she was born into. its so hard to talk about her, and really i feel like i am even more willing to go into the vriska stuff than i am the terezi stuff because as much as vriska conversations are complicated by the fandoms past (on either side of that debate) there is just an even more intense air of refusal to engage with terezis character assassination than anybody else....... which i guess makes sense, shes one of if not arguably the most frontal character, shes beloved weirdgirl, (mostly) unapologetic in her convictions. all i guess admirable traits if you are not like..... from my specific sphere of homestuck fans who have been worn down for all of those reasons. and yknow, a lot of vriska fans will disregard my opinions as inherently unserious and bad faith upon realization i like the clown, which sucks, but its mostly the terezi circles that have treated me like im personally committing some kind of violence by trying to discuss gamzees agency and the problems i have surrounding. what the comic did to these two together.

i guess that isnt really all that much About terezi but really i do think i have said most of the sweeping things i have to say about her as an actual character before. we are given this character who clearly does not have much awareness for the systems which lead her to her worldview, has little to no interest in being actually Fair (i mean come on even for the mess homestuck is her introductory interests in justice and murderstuck investigations are Meant to be read as her being clueless and on board with alternias laughably unjust judicial system. thats textual!) until she and people she knows are hurt by the actions shes up to then encouraged and taken part in. and that itself isnt an issue it is a pretty fascinating position for a child whos then being placed(/placing herself) into a role of an arbiter amongst an increasingly unstable group of isolated children, all of whom including her are very much products of the social conditions which they have been raised. the problem is that any real attempts to reckon with this stuff got shoved aside in preference of a shoehorned narrative about abuse that, if you were around and in the right places at the time, you KNOW how bad faith that shit was from inception. all of the interest in her guilt and insecurity about her own ability to think beyond that instinct that has been instilled into her that hinged on her own decisions and regrets are instead reconstructed to be all about shitting all over the plot device character who already didnt get to Be somebody, and was the subject of so so so many harassment campaigns that we know damn well hussie and the people working with him at the time were well aware of. to me the only way you can see any of that as a genuine attempt to touch on toxic relationships or domestic abuse are if you had no idea what kind of shit he (and the fans turned friends turned contributors) was doing, actively, at the time and it doesnt help that in releasing psycholonials he kind of just got to rewrite the narrative about how the fandom vitriol was spreading (and his extremely direct hand in that) or what was actually being said a lot of the time at all.

and like, yes i have an inherent distrust of people who arent going to examine all of the biases that go into presenting the character who is an amalgamation of all of hussies terrible biases wrt blackness and mental illness and addiction as the only of the kids who is somehow not just as much a victim of the antagonism of the narrative they exist within (while literally working under the child abuse demon!!!! i will say it again i will say it forever), duh, we know this, but i dont think you have to like or sympathize with gamzee to admit that shit was contrived and BAD. it isnt that strong, smart characters, especially girls, can never get abused or manipulated, or whateverrrr, but the second the story decides to reveal this detail is the start of a refusal to engage terezi as the intelligent and hyper-competent character we were initially presented with. her dialogue for literally the rest of the comic from that point on is a hollow, horrifying ghost of what she was before, any attempts to write her as unaware due to her emotional state more often just come across as a caricature of an emotional woman and the fact that it literally gets so bad that people were analyzing that shit at the time wondering if she wasnt also literally being psychically manipulated or barred from information in the same ways is, to me, proof enough of that. homestucks got this very very potent kind of misogyny going on with certain characters where they are allowed to be smart, often smarter than any of the men in the room, but not smart enough that theyre actually allowed to be right, and if they are right its usually as a result of the universe kind of.... dropping the info into their lap, moreso than deducing shit. and part of that is for sure i think that hussie is just better at telling than showing, but if you have READ any of their past works you also know that the idea of women being just generally stupider and flatter and lesser agents in their own stories is something he has always kind of had an issue with. im tired of stepping around it, im tired of stepping around the cop character having an investment in lynching imagery and then getting to be victimized by the manifesations of hussies discomfort and perception of black men! and being told im crazy by people who didnt have insight into how insidious so much of this all was at the time it was happening!!!! tired of not letting her BE flawed because people would rather avoid all of the discomfortttt. aaaand ok this is where im cutting it

1) Ghoulia Yelps

this might be surprising since my pfp is quite literally frankie stein but ghoulia is actually my #1 bbygirl beloved. which is interesting, because she was actually my least favourite as a kid and i was actively terrified of her (i had a serious fear of zombies). ghoulia is also extremely aromantic and no i will not be taking notes but if prompted (or even without. because i am nothing if not annoying) i can and will explain at length exactly why ghoulia is the #1 aro coded monster high character. also she’s just cool (ZOMBIE SCENE QUEEN AUGHHHH)

2) Robecca Steam

SHE IS A VICTORIAN STEAMPUNK ROBOT. need i say more. i don’t, but i will just bc i love her and want to share. if you don’t know her doll comes with spinnable cogs on her legs! and she travels around in canon with steam powered rocket boots. sick right, yes. her design is so over the top and cool in every way. i love her dorky polite personality and her inability to use any piece of technology invented after the year 1900. hashtag alive in the wrong era, but literal. bc she actually is, someone help this girl

3) Draculaura

who doesn’t love drac!!! she’s literally the sweetest girl alive. she was my absolute fave as a kid. draculaura on top (㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ)

4) Abbey Bominable

ABBEY!!!!! i love her. literal ice queen and actual menace (complimentary). she is literally everyone’s favourite mean friend except she’s not really mean at all she’s just too real for some people. forever iconic, abbey ilysm

I was really debating giving this spot to Operetta (Operetta apologist for life btw) but the thing that broke the tie for me was down to character design. i love them both but omg. scarah is on another level she is literally freaky weirdgirl personified i think she is so cool y’all

OK I KNOW THIS IS A TOP 5 LIST… but this is a g1 list so far so it doesn’t count technically. g3 frankie is honestly the best thing about the reboot to me so far; i like some of the other reboot designs but personality wise, g3 frankie is absolutely my fave of the new cast. i genuinely adore them so so immensely everytime they’re on screen they make me smile :)

Charlie was definitely there at the conception of Klavier’s music career. She heard his terrible high school soundcloud mixes and was his biggest fan regardless.

Since she’s a couple years behind him in age, he graduated and moved abroad while she was still in high school, and though they kept in contact at first, they eventually grew apart and lost touch as Klavier’s career blossomed and university monopolized Charlie’s time and attention.

She definitely saw his picture on magazines and his posters on her uni friends walls (“Ah, i know him! Oui, one time when we were kids, he played a song for me and head-banged so hard he hit his nose on the head of his guitar and bled all over my shirt”) and thought fondly of him, but figured his dual careers were keeping him busy and didn’t want to bother him.

She had already been toying with the idea of moving to the states to put her new degree to work, but seeing the news stories about Daryan and then Kristoph was the nail in the coffin, and what prompted her to reach out.

She’d held a grudge against Kristoph since childhood, when their parents would force him to babysit the two of them. She and Klavier would come up with elaborate pranks to surprise him with, until he snapped one day and stomped on a bunch of frogs they had caught. She never forgave and never forgot, and spent the rest of her childhood noticing how manipulative he was to Klavier, who idolized him, and she and Klavier had several fights about him during their teenage years, with Charlie being very protective and trying to talk sense into him, and Klavier being insistent that his brother didn’t mean him any harm.

She finally reached out, they reconnected, and Klavier invited her to come stay with him while she looked for work, which she agreed to, mostly for the purpose of being his support system while he worked through everything.

He was able to call in some favors and get her an internship at the prosecutor’s office, which turned into a Personal Assistant position when Edgeworth became Chief Prosecutor. AND NOW THEY’RE BEST BUDS AGAIN AND NOTHING BAD HAPPENS EVER THE END <3

Best Underrated Anime Group E Round 1: #E2 vs #E7

#E2: Psychic girl is adopted by Yakuza. Hijinks ensue.

While reveling in the successful clinching of a prized vase for his collection, Yoshifumi Nitta, a yakuza member, is rudely interrupted when a large, peculiar capsule suddenly materializes and falls on his head. He opens the capsule to reveal a young, blue-haired girl, who doesn't divulge anything about herself but her name—Hina—and the fact that she possesses immense powers. As if things couldn't get any worse, she loses control and unleashes an explosion if her powers remain unused. Faced with no other choice, Nitta finds himself becoming her caregiver.

#E7: Teenage boys use empathy to solve problems for youkai.

Without realizing it, a high schooler named Ashiya Hanae shows kindness to a youkai and is subsequently possessed by it on the first day of class. The spirit clings to his shoulder, making him progressively sicker each day. After a week of collapsing on his way into school, Ashiya notices a “Help Wanted” flyer for an exorcism service in the nurse’s office. Desperate, he calls the service, only to find that it is run by his grumpy classmate.

Abeno Haruitsuki prefers youkai to humans, sleeps through class, and is the master of a sentient tea room called the Mononokean, where youkai come for help with their problems. It turns out that they’re mostly benign, and exorcising them to the Underworld is safer for them. Ashiya convinces Abeno to exorcise the spirit possessing him, but Abeno demands he work part-time for the Mononokean as repayment. Abeno’s intimate knowledge of the spirit world and Ashiya’s empathetic nature form a great contrast as they work together.

Hinamatsuri is about…

Hina, who is a psychic metaphor for autism ala Mob but imo better. She’s not only a weirdgirl who’s friends are almost all other strange girls, but she’s also into stuff that is just so either unfitting for her age or she’s just really intense about.

Nitta, who deserves all the fangirls and husbando-ing that every other random guy in anime gets. He’s a bachelor who loves pottery and can cook so well that Hina convinces her friends they have a gourmet chef working for them. He’s also a yakuza and is beloved by the aniki for being incredibly tough and scary. (He is gentle as hell with Hina.)

Propaganda 2:

Hinamatsuri is an absolutely hilarious anime with some of the best comic timing I’ve ever seen. It’s so funny, the various girls are such nonsense.

Hina starts as a violent blank slate and develops into a lazy greedy horrible little gremlin. Anzu starts as a prideful edgy rival but eventually becomes a wholesome overly grateful insecure mess. Hitomi is forced to become more and more competent, independent, and adult because she can't stand up for herself and say no to people asking her for favors.

Nitta is a fantastic viewpoint character because he outwardly takes so much in stride that it’s easy to forget how annoyed and stressed everything makes him until he snaps.

Trigger Warnings: There is child nudity, but only for a Terminator reference. There is some comedic child neglect and slapstick. There is a child who is homeless, but it’s treated very sensitively.

#E7: The Morose Mononokean (Fukigen na Mononokean)

[Admin: Submitter had linked the season 2 trailer—which also happens to be blocked in my country. I’m replacing it with the s1 trailer, but it sadly does not have any subs. But if you’ve read the summary, then the trailer is easy to understand.]

Propaganda:

The Morose Mononokean is a beautifully written and animated coming-of-age story— with youkai, which can only ever make a piece of media better. The characters, both human and youkai, are fully three-dimensional, and although there isn’t much of an overarching plot in the first season/early manga chapters, the episodic stories contribute to the growth of both Ashiya and Abeno; their juxtaposed methods of problem-solving, and the way they affect and learn from each other’s perspectives as they become closer, are very satisfying both to analyze and to experience on an emotional level. Beyond the writing, the art is outstanding as well. The designs for the youkai characters are frequently adorable, occasionally terrifying, and always quite original, brilliantly incorporating characteristics of existing creatures in novel ways. The occasional visits to the Underworld are always a visual treat, with vibrant colors and a unique animation style painting the backdrop. Both the art and the characters are delightful and moving, and the OP is a banger. As a connoisseur of urban fantasy, Fukigen na Mononokean’s focus on emotion over action has made it my all-time favorite anime in the genre.

Great depiction of a teenager by Emily Axford. A lot of scenes get really emotional with her being a symbol of the cycle of life and death and eventually she will always become the Big Bad Wolf.

she faced off with Death and he told her to live. this Death, who was much older than the Death she was supposed to meet, stared off with Yilfa for days until she succumbed to hunger and ate him alive. other iterations of death apologized to her for the story she was forced to suffer through, for the punishment she had to endure over an unrealistic and unabidable rule she was destined to break. her corrupted story turned her into the big bad wolf, into death itself. she sacrificed the beloved memory of her grandma, her namesake, so that her friends would be able to save their world. even though she gained it back in the end, she was willing to live the rest of her life as the wolf, a harbinger of death, and when she was reminded that she was just a child, that it wasn’t her responsibility to guide the dead, she cried, and separated from the wolf. she was able to grow up normal and happy after suffering from the looming presence of death. i’m gonna make me friend also submit yilfa bc they’re smarter than me and can make better propaganda

Her narrative arc about growing up and life and death is so beautiful and her being a werewolf is so cool. Emily Axford gets girlhood like nobody else.

Not only did she have to lose her grandmother, but she also nearly dies of starvation and exhaustion until The Big Bad Wolf, aka Death, convinced her to live, by her killing him and eating his flesh, therefore making her Death

Ylfa has a snazzy orange top hat given to her by a very attractive fairy. Three Blind Mice is her favorite story. She brought her grandma lollipopcorn and threw the broth in the river halfway there. She first developed a crush on Pinocchio when she saw him use his nose as a stripper pole and didn't kiss him until they were twenty-one and having an awkward conversation about her grandma's death and Toy Island. She fought a baron with a spoon. She wants a bra. She jumped into The Terrible Dogfish’s stomach to save her friend. She has pinkeye and grandma hobbies. She fought off a shit ton of homicidal tables at once. She is pals with Little Miss Muffet. She killed her family. She sacrificed the memory of her grandmother to become Death. She was basically adopted by Mother Goose (who is a cool old gay dude). She Wildshapes by horribly contorting her body into animalistic forms. She is a Barbarian who acts as a support character. She is the bravest little girl in the whole world.

Ylfa Propaganda: [Link]

Ylfa turns Little Red Riding Hood into a metaphor for not just puberty but grief and death and the inevitability of loss--of innocence, of childhood, of who you had and who you were. The Wolf is the End of All Things, and Ylfa met Death and Death wanted her to live. She gave up the memory of her grandmother--her namesake, her humanity--and became Death, and she was there to be the end of her grandmother's grandmother's story, because there always has been and always will be a wolf. But in the end, she is just a little girl, and she doesn't have to take this burden. There is a wolf-that-is-not-a-wolf waiting for everyone with a snazzy orange top hat, and there is a strange girl playing cards with witches and kissing a boy who used to be a puppet, and they all lived happily.

Vote Ylfa cause she pulled through when it came to the Riding Hooded Mercenary and I know a worthy opponent when I see one.

Yuyuko:

She's related to Red Riding Hood, has costumes of Red Riding Hood, and she has ten hoodies in various shades of red. She's sapphic. She's autistic. She's a dog person. She's little beepo.

Technically this might be stretching it because she was casted into this play exactly once (though she has two cards dedicated to it due to the Encore cards). Anyways she always wears around a big red hood outside of this play but that's not directly based off of Little Red Riding hood from my knowledge so it doesn't matter much. What does matter is that Yuyuko keeps up her pattern of being casted in roles where her character either dies or suffers a lot (this one being the latter) in this play, though thankfully I'm not sure that she wrote herself into this narrative this time
