You looked at your daughter, she peeked up at you from beneath long, dark lashes. She sat across from you at the breakfast table, picking at her pancakes with a fork, you could see the worry etched on her beautiful face.

"Pearl, what's wrong, sweetheart?" you asked setting your own fork down and giving her your full attention. Your heart clenched at the sight of her little face scrunched up.

Pearl shrugged one small shoulder, she stabbed another piece of syrupy pancake and poked it around her plate before finally speaking. "Daddy was mad at you last night...because of the wet bed," she mumbled, her bottom lip trembling slightly.

"What do you mean baby?"

The little girl looked down at her plate, still fiddling with the cooling pancake. After a moment of hesitation, she glanced back up at you with wide, innocent eyes.

"Well... last night... I heard Daddy....he said... he said you made a big mess and were being a dirty girl for wetting the bed" she explained, her little brows pinching together.

You felt the heat of embarrassment rising up your neck, flaring across your cheeks as you heard Rafayel choke and sputter on his breakfast. Quickly, you raised a hand to cover your burning face, rubbing at it as if you could somehow erase the awkwardness of the moment.

"Oh, sweetie... it wasn't like that at all. I just accidentally dropped a glass of water on the bed last night, that's all. It was a silly mistake, daddy was just being a bit dramatic"

As you spoke, you glanced over at Rafayel, expecting him to chime in and back up your explanation to your daughter. However, you quickly realized that he must have slipped away from the kitchen table while you were distracted, leaving you to handle this conversation alone.

Frowning slightly, you listened as his muffled laughter filtered in from somewhere else in the apartment.

Under your breath, you muttered, "That damn fish..."

"Mommy, when can I meet grandpa?"

You blinked in confusion at your daughter's words, your attention focused on the little girl standing before you. She was the spitting image of Caleb, with the same deep purple eyes and messy brown hair.

"Piper, sweetheart, I think you might be confused, your grandparents are in heaven remember?"

But mommy I heard you last night in your room when you were with daddy, you said... Yes daddy I missed you and it sounded like you were crying"

"Did she...?" you stammered, turning to face Caleb with shock.

He draped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer. "Looks like we've got a little eavesdropper on our hands," he teased, nodding towards Piper.

You couldn't help but let out a nervous giggle, burying your burning face against Caleb's chest. Leave it to your daughter to catch you in a compromising moment with her father.

"Oh, um, Piper sweetie, I think I might have been dreaming," you stammered, feeling mortified. "Mommy was just... just talking in her sleep. You know how sometimes our minds play tricks on us?"

Caleb couldn't hold it in any longer. He turned to you, his face splitting into a wide grin. "Maybe you were just having a very vivid dream."

"Daddy, were you having a vi...vidid dream too?" Piper asked looking between the two of you with curious eyes.

"..."

"How about we have a family movie night?" Caleb suggested as he reached out to scoop Piper up into his arms "We can make popcorn and everything. Whaddya say, squirt?"

Piper's face lit up with a huge grin, her earlier confusion forgotten. "Yay! Can I have a big bucket?"

"Mommy, you said we're not supposed to run inside the house, right?"

You glanced down at your youngest child, agreeing with him. "That's correct, sweetie. Running inside can be very dangerous"

However, before you could elaborate further on the importance of this house rule, Eira's next question caught you completely off guard. The little boy's brows furrowed slightly as he processed his next thought.

Then, with all the blunt honesty of a 5-year-old, Eira asked, "But then why were you and Daddy running inside the bathroom? I heard you scream, Mommy."

You couldn't help but blush as you heard Eira's innocent yet incredibly embarrassing question. Your mind raced, trying to come up with a suitable explanation, but before you could say another word, Alba's, your teenage daughter, drink went flying out of her mouth, drenching a surprised Zayne's face with lemonade.

Zayne blinked, lemonade dripping down his chin as he turned to you. He wiped his face with the back of his hand, leaving a sticky trail on his cheek. Alba looked mortified, her eyes wide and her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.

Zayne, ever the helpful husband, chuckled and gave you a small, encouraging nod, leaving you to handle this situation.

Trying to keep a straight face, you turned to Eira and explained, "Well sweetie, sometimes... sometimes grown ups have special reasons for breaking the rules. Like when it's an emergency, or..." You paused, searching for the right words. "Or when they're just feeling really... enthusiastic." You couldn't help but sneak another glance at Zayne, who was now trying really hard not to laugh.

Alba, meanwhile, had her hand over her mouth, her eyes wide with shock and a hint of disgust. "Ew, Mom! I don't need to know about your and Dad's 'special reasons'!"

"Perhaps we should have a more... private discussion about the birds and bees later, hmm?" Zayne said.

"Alright, alright, no more questions! Let's go get some ice cream and forget this ever happened, deal?" you said, hoping to steer the conversation and your children's imagination back to safer territory.

"Sy, can you come with me? The twins seem to be up to something and I'm not sure what it is."

"Alright, you two little troublemakers. What are you whispering about over here, hmm?" Sylus asks, his deep voice tinged with a playful edge. He crouches down to their level, studying their guilty expressions.

Esme and Jasper exchange a glance, knowing they've been caught. Eventually Esme speaks up "Well, we want to know if you can eat other animals besides cows, fish and chicken."

Crouching down next to Sylus, you tilt your head questioningly. "Why do you ask, baby?"

Jasper chimes in "Well, we don't like that daddy is eating cats."

Sylus raises an eyebrow, glancing at you with surprise before turning his attention back to the twins. He keeps his tone light and gentle as he explains. "Daddy doesn't eat cats or any other pets. That's not a type of food."

"But daddy", Esme say, her small face scrunched in confusion. "Last night you said you were going to eat a whoooole kitten."

Jasper nods eagerly in agreement "Yes, you said... 'I'm gonna eat you whole kitten" the way he mocks Sylus's voice is amazing.

You and Sylus exchange a quick glance, realizing the humorous but inaccurate context your innocent twins have taken from his comment. Sylus clears his throat, trying to suppress a smirk as he addresses their misunderstanding. "Oh, my little gems, I think there might be a tiny mix up. When I said that, I didn't mean I was going to eat a real kitten. Mommy, could you help me explain it to them better? I don't want my two little darlings worrying about kittens being harmed."

You nod, trying desperately to hold back the fit of laughter threatening to spill from your lips at the absurd and humorous misunderstanding your twins have created. Sylus, sensing you won't be able to help, decides to take a different approach to set their young minds at ease.

"How about you both help me fix Mephisto?" Sylus suggests, his voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "He needs new batteries and I could really use your help."

Esme and Jasper's eyes widen with excitement at the prospect of assisting their father. They nod eagerly, the worry about kittens being eaten already forgotten.

"Can we really help, Daddy?" Esme asks, her earlier distress replaced with childlike enthusiasm.

"Yes, of course you can!" Sylus says with a warm smile. "But first, let's make sure we all understand that Daddy doesn't eat kittens or any other pets, okay?

"Mommy were you training with daddy last night?"

The living room fell silent for a moment, even Fatso, the fat cat lounging on the windowsill, paused his grooming to twitch an ear in your direction.

Aster looked up at you with those big, innocent blue eyes that were so much like his father's. He swung his little legs back and forth, his tiny sneakers dangling above the plush carpet as he perched on the armchair. The toy rocket ship he had been playing with seconds before now lay forgotten in his lap

"No honey, why do you ask?"

"Well, Mommy..." Aster began, his little voice taking on a tone of confidentiality. "I heard some weird noises coming from your room last night. Like, uh..." He paused, scrunched up his button nose, and then blurted out, "Like Daddy was hurting you and then you asked him to do it harder."

Xavier felt the color drain from his face, his fair skin turning a shade paler than usual. He sat up straight, all traces of his earlier languidness vanishing. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it again, seemingly at a loss for words.

Meanwhile, Aster just looked back and forth between you and his father. He didn't understand the sudden tension in the room, the way his parents had both gone still and quiet at his words. He tilted his head to the side, his blonde curls falling over one shoulder as he studied your face.

"Did I say something wrong, Mommy?" Aster asked, his voice small and uncertain.

"No sweetie...Sometimes, when Daddy and I are playing a new video game together at night, we get so excited and into it that we make loud noises. It's not because Daddy is hurting me, but because we're both having so much fun and cheering on our characters."

"Ok"

"And when I said for Daddy to do it harder, I just meant I wanted him to help his character win the game faster. It's like when you're playing with your toys and you want to make them run really fast or jump really high."

Xavier couldn't help but smile as he watched his little boy nod in understanding, his earlier confusion and worry melting away as he went back to playing with his toy rocket ship, blasting off imaginary enemies with a joyful "Pew pew!"

Feeling emboldened by your quick thinking, Xavier leaned in close to you and lowered his voice to a stage whisper, not wanting Aster to overhear, and said, "I have a few more new video games we can play tonight"

He let out a soft, playful chuckle, his eyes lingering on your face as he waited for your reaction. Just as he was about to say something else, he felt a sharp sting on his upper arm and looked down to see your hand connected to it.

"Ow!" he yelped, rubbing the reddening skin where you had slapped him. "What was that for?"

After wiping your mouth and rinsing it out with mouthwash from your sudden episode of morning sickness, you made your way back into the bedroom where your husband was still peacefully sleeping.

You attempted to climb back into the bed without waking him up, but feeling the weight shift made him flutter his eyes open. Joe had never been a really deep sleeper, but since he found out you were pregnant, usually he wakes up at the smallest noise and it left you surprised this morning when he didn’t feel you get out of bed the first time.

“Baby, you okay?” He asked as he pulled you towards him so he could wrap his arms around you and kissed the top of your head.

“Your children won't let me be great and made me throw up again.” You quietly answered and you had now grown frustrated since it seemed like the morning sickness wasn't only happening in the morning, but throughout the day.

“You want me to make you some tea?”

“Yes, please. I'm miserable.”

Joe then placed his hand on your belly and began to rub small circles on it as he noticed that your bump was actually starting to show.

“Babies, stop making mommy sick so she can sleep. Daddy’s orders.”

“Hopefully they'll listen to you because clearly they pay me no attention.”

“When they hear ‘the voice’ for the first time, they're going to be running for their lives.” Joe said, referring to the first time he heard it and made sure to stay out of your way for the rest of the day.

“I still to this day have no idea what you are talking about when you say that.”

“It's a voice you make when you get really annoyed. Ask Ja'Marr, he'll back me up.”

“I just think you two are being dramatic.”

“Says the most dramatic person in the room….”

“Husband! Take it back!”

“Nope, it's facts and I'm not going to lie to you.”

All you did was roll your eyes in response as Joe raised his eyebrows at you.

“Don't catch an attitude with me because it's something you didn't want to hear. Fix your face.”

“I'll fix mine if you let me ride yours.”

“I… These pregnancy hormones are giving me a run for my money and got me fighting for my damn life. One thing at a time and let's get your nausea under control first.”

Later on in the day, when Joe was sitting at the island in the kitchen, you went and sat next to him while setting up your phone. He quickly noticed and looked over at you.

“Whatever it is, no.”

“But baby! Pleaseeee?!”

You knew Joe hated being in front of a camera, but you loved doing TikTok challenges with him from time to time.

Sighing and finally giving in, he put his phone down to give you his undivided attention.

“Okay, what are we doing?”

“We listen and we don't judge challenge. I sent you a few so you would have an example to know what to do.”

“Only because it's you. Let's get this over with.”

“Yay! And I want you to go first.” You told him as you pressed record.

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“When I feel like I'm getting sick, I act like I'm so drained so I can't do anything so you'll baby me.” Joe was the first one up and smiled at you when he was finished.

“What the? I baby you anyway! Like 98% of the time.”

“AHT! No judging. You just take it to a different level. Moving on.”

“You are literally MY baby though. My 6’4 baby and I'm 4'11, but who's to say anything about that? I love you bad and I see you're using it to your advantage.”

“To get endless cuddles from my wife? Hell yeah I'm taking advantage of it.”

“Okay, next.”

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“So after you fall asleep since your bedtime is like 6 pm.. like a grandpa…” You started to say, but was immediately interrupted.

“9 during the season!”

“Stop interrupting me, husband! After you fall asleep, I go and buy things on your phone and make sure to delete the notifications so you don't find out.”

“BABY!”

“HEY! I BUY YOU THINGS TOO!”

“And you hide the packages too because I literally never see any of them.”

“Hmm, maybe.”

“Fine. Keep your secrets.”

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“When we were at LSU and we were just friends, I memorized your schedule and knew you had a lot of late classes and I would purposely wait for you if it was dark outside to walk you to your car to make sure you were safe. And it gave me a chance to spend more time with you.”

“So, that's why it seemed like you were always around? Aww, you love me!” You told him as you pinched his cheek.

“And don't you ever forget it.”

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“During last season when I saw you wore THOSE PANTS, yes you know the ones I'm talking about, after I specifically told you not to because they looked crazy and you wore them anyway, you kept asking if I've seen them but I hid them somewhere in our house and they have been hidden for so long that I forgot their location.”

“I LOVE THOSE PANTS, BABE!”

“THEY ARE HIDEOUS, BABY. NO!”

“I'm making it my mission later to find my pants.”

“I know Ja'Marr probably bought you those ugly ass pants.”

“AHT! You're judging!”

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“When you're mad at me, I purposely go into the cabinet and make all of the jar lids tighter so you have to come and talk to me.” Joe confessed and you rolled your eyes and crossed your arms at the same time.

“SERIOUSLY? And here I am thinking I'm a weak bitch! I can lift almost as heavy as you can! And a jar lid is what does me in?!?”

“Works every time.”

“I'm going to have to do it myself next time.”

“Like that will ever happen…” Joe said and you playfully rolled your eyes.

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“Okay, so….” You started to say as you glanced at Joe and he sighed knowing that something crazy and out of pocket was about to come out of your mouth.

“Oh shit, here we go.”

“Sometimes, I purposely piss you off and I don't know that you know you do this but your voice gets deeper and it turns me on so bad. Like your voice by itself turns me on, but when you get mad, whew. Sign me up for EVERY position. It's happening now and I'm just thinking about it. Gets your girl all hot and bothered.” You quietly said as Joe stared at you since you were now squirming in your chair and trying to keep your legs as tight as possible.

“Are you seriously squirming over there? And I’m not surprised by this in the slightest. Just wait until we're finished with this, I'm about to turn you every way but loose. And hold on! I thought we were keeping this PG!?” He asked as he leaned over and kissed you.

“Don't threaten me with a good time and when are the videos we do ever PG? Especially when it's something like this? And don't get me started because I will literally rip off your clothes at this very moment.”

“Good point and see? And that's why you're pregnant now.”

“Because my husband is fine as hell and I'll fu-” Joe's eyes went wide as he promptly covered your mouth with his hand and in protest, you licked it, making him look at you dumbfounded.

“No! Do not finish that sentence. This is really about to turn into something else if you don't stop. And did you just lick my hand!?”

“I wanna lick something else too, but I'll save that for when we turn the camera off.” You tried to whisper, but failed miserably.

“BABY QUIT IT!” Joe pleaded and all you did was shrug.

“I was like this before you married me and you should have known that once this ring was on my finger, I was about to be ten times worse.”

“Hmm, that's putting it lightly.”

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“I hide some of your perfumes so that you'll only use my favorite ones that I've bought for you.”

“Babe! How many have you hidden!? And here I am thinking that I've lost them!”

“Hmm, not telling.”

“You're annoying.”

“I'm cute and you love me.”

“Survey says that both of those responses are correct.”

“So, when you got hurt during your rookie year, I was watching the game and saw it happen and my heart immediately dropped. Because we literally had an argument hours before that game and we weren't talking and now I think back on it, I had no idea what the argument was about. But, I low-key felt that you getting hurt was somehow my fault. I remember packing my things and getting on a plane and crying the entire way there and I honestly didn't know if you wanted to see me at that point. Because I had sent you a text right before the game and you didn't respond. And to this day, I still feel like that.”

It was quiet for a few seconds before Joe said anything.

“That… baby that wasn't your fault. It was a bad hit. And of course I wanted to see you. You were actually the first person I asked for. I never knew you felt like that.”

“I hate seeing you in pain and I…. I'm about to cry again.”

“I can tell, hormones.” Joe replied as he wiped your eyes for you.

“But I came back from it because of you and how you helped me. You being there was enough. You love me bad, don't you?” He asked as he was trying to get you to smile.

“So much, and you know it.”

“We listen and we don't judge.”

“Ever since you told me you were pregnant, I watch you until you fall asleep to make sure you’re okay. Doesn't matter how long it takes or if I have to get up early. You're my priority.”

“And, I'm about to cry again. Damn these hormones.”

“You are literally MY person and I don't know what I'd do without you.”

“Ladies, get you a husband who treats you like the queen you are every day because….. shoutout to Jimmy and Robin because the two of them gave me one of the best things that ever happened to me.”

“Wait… ONE of the best things? I'm not THE best thing!?”

“Hmm, you're top five.” You replied as you shrugged.

“Uh? You mean number one?”

“If it makes you feel better, the top five things all have to do with you.”

“That sounds suspicious, but I'll let it slide for now.”

“I love you Joseph Lee Burrow!” You exclaimed as you kissed his cheek and wrapped your arms around him.

“Stop trying to change the subject and I know for a damn fact you didn't just call me by my full name. I get anxious when you do that.”

Could you do one where like Rafe brings his pogue gf home for Christmas and it’s really awkward for her and she has anxiety but he’s there to comfort her and even stands up to his parents or something cuz they don’t like him dating a pogue? Just a thought 🫶🏼

Rafe’s POV:

Festive lights twinkle in the dim night, candles lit on all the windows. The balmy heat of the North Carolina summers exchanged for the chilly bite of winter.

We roll up the cobblestone drive, my hand resting on her upper thigh; the other twisted around the leather wheel. She hums along with the song, velvety and sweet, trying to distract herself from the inevitable. She looks beautiful, as always, a little more at peace than usual when she stops by my parent's place…

I know why, I'm not stupid… This dress helped, as did the shoes and the jewelry. Just simple gifts— nothing out of the ordinary. I love spoiling her.

Sure, it made her a little uncomfortable at first, but she settled into the fact that this was my love language. I wasn't buying her things to change her. I would never want to change her…

She lifts her hand, resting it in mine, her emerald dress catching the winter wind as she steps out of the car. I smile down at her, wrapping her tight in my arms as we take the last few steps up the walk.

I open the door, stepping inside watching her eyes glimmer, just a sliver of unease lingering that she’s trying her best to shrug away. She didn't come from this side of the island… But she belongs here with me, and that’s all that matters.

“You alright, princess?” I ask as I help her out of her fur coat.

She smiles at me, the kind that doesn't quite reach those pretty eyes of hers as she smoothes out the front of her dress. “Just nervous, baby. You know how I get.”

I lean in, kissing her forehead, lingering as I wrap my arms around her waist. “You got nothin’ to be nervous about, sweetheart.”

And I’m hoping that’s true.

Dinner was set like a scene from a Christmas movie. Their formal dining table’s arranged with crisp white linens and ruby centerpieces; Rose’s fine china is placed perfectly alongside delicate gold-trimmed plates.

I look down at the table, catching my old man's eye. His dark gaze flickers to her as she talks to Rose and Wheezie; the weight of his judgment is heavy, as usual. But even with that weight, conversation flows around him—the hum and laughter of the three women filling the dining room, regardless, somehow making him angrier.

She smiles at me, taking my breath away in a glance; my perfect girl. Graceful, kind, everything I ever wanted, but nothing I deserve. And then…

“So,” I simple word. His first utterance all night. Like nails on a goddamn chalkboard. His tone is smooth, spiked with a familiar edge that I’ve unfortunately become far too accustomed to myself. “Was that a gift?” He asks as he gestures lazily to the Cartier necklace around her throat. “N’that dress too, huh? Stunning.”

The table falls silent, and my stomach drops fast. I feel her hand tense in mine under the table, putting me on edge.

“Yeah, anniversary, I believe…” I smile, recalling the necklace. “And the dress, well, can you blame me? It was made for you, sweetheart,” I lower my voice. Lifting her hand to my lips, kissing the top, feeling her tremble with adrenaline.

Ward chuckles, swirling his Old Fashioned in his rocks glass; his laugh low, condescending. “Thought so. She looks well taken care of.” He drawls, talking about her like she’s not even there… Like she’s some kind of pet.

She bites her cheek, eyes shifting to the plate in front of her, confidence shrinking under Ward’s sharp stare.

“It always interests me when I see a fellow Pogue on this side of the island. Well, former Pogue,” he gestures to himself, giving us that old money laugh before taking a sip. Ward sucks his teeth, the dark liquor burning on it’s way down. “I was once in your shoes… Seems a Pogue turns Kook for two reasons: hard work or, well, what do you call it, sweetheart?”

“Dad,” I level my voice, cold and sharp enough to cut through the tension. “That’s enough. Yeah?”

He cocks an eyebrow in my direction, clearly amused. “Just a question, son.”

“Hmm… Yeah,” I chuckle back, borrowing his tone. “A cruel and classless question. Seems about right for you.”

The table falls deathly quiet, all eyes on her and I. Heat rises in my chest; my pulse pounding in my ears. I glance down at her, the hurt in her eyes all but breaking me.

“She’s here because I love her,” I continue, my voice steady but firm. “Not because of what I can give her. And if you can’t respect that, we’re gone.”

My dad finishes the rest of his drink before setting the empty glass on the table. Rose goes to speak, but I’m already pushing my chair back, helping her to her feet. I don't care about the gifts waiting under the tree or Rose’s carefully planned evening. None of this shit matters if she feels unwelcome.

“We’re goin’,” I say sharply, leaving it all behind.

The two of us leave, pulling out of the driveway faster than we came; her cheek shifted slightly to avoid my gaze. She doesn’t want to talk about it. I know her… She’s overwhelmed —her emotion boiling, threatening to spill over if I even utter the words, ‘Are you okay.’ She’s not… How could she be? She needs a minute. She just needs me to be close. I reach down, resting my hand on top of hers.

She looks down at the contact between us, the tears building on her waterline falling on her dress.

“Thank you, baby,” she mumbles hastily, like the words had been on the tip of her tongue for too long. “You didn't have to do that.”

“Of course I did, princess. Are you joking?” I ask as I steal a quick glance. “Nobody talks bad about my girl. Alright? No expectations,” I assure. “My dad… My dad’s an asshole. He’s got to understand that it’s a privilege to be around you.”

Her pretty lips tug to the side, fighting back more tears. “I don't care if he’s family or not, sweetheart. You're the most important thing to me. Okay?”

She looks up at me, eyes glassy. “I love you, Rafe,” she whispers as he lifts my hand, kissing my fingers one by one.

”I love you too, princess.”

“Where are we going?” She smiles softy at me from the passenger's seat as we pass our road, headed north.

“Change of plans. I just wanna go for a ride, princess. That alright?” I ask as I squeeze her thigh. She nods, turning up the music before relaxing into her seat.

She smiles as we roll into The Cut, gliding into a familiar parking lot. “Shells Diner?” She beams brightly, basking in the nostalgia of it all.

“Mhmm…” I hum as I lean over the center council. She grabs my cheeks, kissing me gently. “Met the prettiest little waitress here…” I whisper against her lips, feeling her smile against mine.

I trot around the car, helping her out just like I had at Tanneyhill, looking down at her beautiful eyes, that sliver of unease long gone.

The diner is a staple— nothing fancy, just a cozy, hole-in-the-wall place with peeling paint and a flickering neon sign. But it’s special.

The diner glows with a warm retro charm. It’s the kind of place that never changes; the scent of coffee and griddle-cooked meals clings to the walls. Christmas lights dangle messily along the ceiling. Dusty garland frames the windows; its shelf, cluttered with decorations.

The booths are well-worn, their red vinyl cushions cracked but familiar. A small Christmas tree stands in the corner by the jukebox, its ornaments mismatched but lovingly placed. The faint hum of holiday music filters through the speakers, blending with the occasional clatter of dishes from the back and the people scattered around.

Eyes shift nervously in my direction as they always do. My girl sees the good in me and might be the only one. I don’t blame the old waitresses for looking at me uneasily from time to time. But, when I’m with her, their judgment seems to fade away… If she’s happy, they're happy. And that’s the way it should be.

They greet her like they haven’t seen her in years, eyes wide as they take in her beauty, making her give them a little twirl in her fancy dress, chuckling about how they wanna hug her, but they’re afraid they’ll get her all dirty.

When we slide into the booth, she leans back, a soft smile playing on her lips as she watches me, and I’m hit with the most beautiful deja vu of the first time I saw her… The only thing that changed is that she’s mine.

I throw my coat off my shoulders, rolling up my sleeves, adjusting my Breitling watch, getting a taste for how out of place she must have felt tonight. Not even scratching the surface.

The waitress sets down our coffees and pie, the two of us alternating bites, our hands occasionally brushing ‘til I'm shifting out of the table, nestling myself next to her.

She cuddles into me as I feed her and myself, and she feeds me, the two of us chuckling every time our forks clash. The waitress comes over, drawing two fresh cups of coffee, steaming curling together.

After a while, she reaches into her purse and pulls out a small wrapped box from her bag. Her hand is a little shaky as she slides it over to me with a nervous smile. “Merry Christmas, baby,” she whispers.

“You didn't have to, sweetheart,” I smile as my heart swells.

Inside is a pendant—simple but elegant. The band was made from her late grandfather’s gold bracelet, and I recognized the ruby right away. The name embossed on the velvet box lets me know it’s custom. She shaped into something timeless for me… something she knew I’d love. The metal glows softly in the diner’s dim light. I flip over the pendant, our initials looped in cursive, perfectly intertwined.

I stare at it for a moment, my fingers running over the smooth surface. “This—this is perfect, baby,” I breathe. “Thank you. I love it.”

“I’m glad... I love you,” she whispers, and I feel that in every fiber of my being.

“I love you too, princess.”

“Can you help me?” I smiles as I reach around my neck, fiddling awkwardly with the gold clasp, battling against my blunt nails. I turn slightly, the tight booth making it impossible for me to twist.

“Come here, baby,” she coos as she moves out of the booth. I push out and stand up, smiling down at her before turning around. She unclasps it easily, sliding on the pendant before clipping it again.

Her fingers run across my chest, my heart banging underneath, and I drop on one knee— the ring burning a hole in my pocket all night, lifting a weight off my chest when I show it to her.

“I’ve been waiting for the right moment…” My lips spread in a trembling, awkward smile. “I told you it’s a privilege to be around you. And I meant that. I want you to know that I’ve always known how lucky I got with you, princess. You have shown me love for the first time—real love. I want to take care of you like you take care of me. I hope you need me just a fraction of how much I need you. So, sweetheart, will you let me spend the rest of my life showin’ you just how much you mean to me?”

She smiles and nods happily as her hand meets mine, sniffling and holding back tears.

“Will you marry me?”

I slip the ring on her finger, and before I know it, her lips are on mine, pulling me closer, and everything and everyone else fades away.

You jumped before covering your table with your body and clutching onto it as if some unknown entity would drag you away from it.

“No! Shoo!”

“Kicking me out? By my lover uwaa~ How mean~”

“Don’t you ‘uwaa’ me, you’re going to distract me from my work!”

“You don’t want me to bite you?”

“Not the point! This is important.”

Lilia looked at the paperwork splayed across, eyebrow raising at what he found.

“Is your history homework is that important?”

You groaned and slumped over.

“More like I don’t want to see his disappointed ‘grandpa’ face. Do you know how that makes you feel? Like I kicked Lucius!”

He bent over laughing.

Spending time with you always brought him surprises he’s never prepared for.

“Kufu~ Want my help?”

“No, keep me company?”

“Of course.”

Lilia hummed before an idea has him smirking.

“Beware, though, precious,” he tapped on your lips, “I’ll be counting the number of times you bite your glasses. Expect me to return just as many when you’re done.”

The hint of possessiveness in his eyes has you almost caving into him and giving up on homework before he turns you back to your desk with a kiss on the cheek.

You do end up biting your glasses. Some of it is done unconsciously, and some are done on purpose.

You didn’t regret it one bit the next day, especially the ones on your thighs.

Feeling a little silly and needed a pick-me-up, so I wrote this 💕💕💚💚💚

I don't know if it's only a me thing, but I tend to put the stem of my glasses between my lips subconsciously when I'm focused lol 😂💕

Of course, I wash them, but I think it's a bit funny that I do it at times.
