The mess hasn't exactly been tamed, but baby steps are still steps!

The biggest win from today is that I finally wrote down the character profiles for Daunte's mother and sister (who were initially just unnamed characters, but we know how it goes), after like 10 months of them being vague scrambled notes.

1.5k words between the two profiles, plus an unknown amount of edits elsewhere :D

Ahhh, I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, but I'm curious to know what changed Hajime/Izuru's mind in the universe your art takes place in? Like, what made him go from not caring about anything because everything was boring and meaningless, to trying to enjoy life?

I don't really remember what it was in the anime, but it was probably hope. And like, that makes sense if you think about it, considering that's the definition of hope, but hope doesn't usually just happen like that, you know? Especially not to someone who probably had never felt it since the whole Ultimate Hope thing (ironically). In my mind, it's hard to imagine what it could have been, considering nothing ever phased him. I know that whatever gave him hope doesn't have to be that deep, because that's how it is sometimes, but I was wondering what you think it could have been (or more importantly, what you consider it to be in your art)!

Also, this is kinda unrelated, but I find it so cool how much your art makes me really think about the characters. It's amazing how you're able to really see how you've fleshed out the characters through you art, and honestly, you are probably one of my favourite artists because of it.

But anyway, sorry about this long and random rant 😭 Idk why I spend my time analyzing the character and point of view of fictional characters, but I guess sometimes the ADHD brain goes brrrrrr.

depends on the universe! But I'll assume you mean my general post-game stuff.

I've said it somewhere before so if it's old bread to you bear with me, but basically, it was a genuine dedication to face the big horrible awful feelings that come with trauma and life in general, and also the brain boost of getting to skip the slow growing part even for just a while.

My idea is that Izuru and Hajime are not two separate identities, rather, an amnesiac and horribly traumatized boy was given a moniker he didn't care to accept or deny. It's not like he had any other name to go by. That was Izuru Kamukura.

The brain has these neural pathways of how it responds to things, and his all got burnt out so he could respond with an appropriate talent each time. As a very simplified example, someone might respon to threat with the Flight response, because it worked in a dire situation and the brain decided "that saved us, this is how we will respond from now on".

Hajime, in the game, gets a sudden bump out of those pathways, enabling him to feel things properly and be fully present in his life. Thematically, the big Super Sayian moment is him deciding to not fall into old, but true and tried, brain patterns, and instead taking on the horrific experience of being human, with all the messy Emotions and Failures that comes with it.

When he wakes up from the game, he still struggles, but the artificial boost from his old thinking as well as a conscious, strenuous, painful effort to not repress himself anymore but instead face the things that he did and were done to him, make him able to carve himself into a new Him.

Not the same, in the sense that WHO could say they're the same as they were before a simulated murder game that revealed that you were a killing machine terrorist and so were your friends. But the same as in, he's Hajime Hinata and he decides what exactly that means. To want is an emotion, and he wants to become someone who can experience life fully, and chasing that single feeling of Want opens up the doors to everything else. You might've heard this before but "before you change, you have to want to change".

So in short. What enabled him to get Hopeful so to speak was the combination of a brain kick (you could call that a metaphor for outside help), and a concrete decision to try to do the difficult but right thing. Sounds kind of boring maybe, but everything else comes later - like his interest and care for his friends, an enjoyment of philosophy and the arts, a pleasure from being useful and helpful, a serenity from accepting things as they are, and a thrill that comes with strong genuine emotion (from my own life, sometimes a single moment of !!!! can carry you on for months).

Yes the whole thing is a metaphor for getting better with mental health stuff. It's personal to me okay 😂

(also I like the idea from Miggys fic that his human connections override the apathy and distance so as long as he's around the people he loves he can hold onto what keeps him going)

I love thinking about and building on characters too! Spending tons of time inspecting them like a specimen 🤝 people (and therefore characters) are very interesting to me so I just like rolling them around my brain. Thank you for your interest and kind words!

ok. so. i saw these posts 1 2 and brain went brrrrrr so some quick trigun x splatoon thoughts. lwk thinking about writing a oneshot about it because yayayayay

quick note: im still reading through trimax, so the trigun stuff is more of a trigun soup grabbing from 98' and tristamp. if i decide to add in more trimax lore later, ill reblog this with some edits lmao

my idea is that instead of it just being trigun reskinned or just splatoon reskinned, the stories are happening simultaneously with trigun events occurring within the splatoon world. splatoon events would play out mostly as normal. however, all the trigun stuff would be happening far out in the outer splatlands desert rather than a different planet

while the rest of the world refers to it as the outer splatlands desert, the residents know it as no mans land! theyre cut off from inkadia for whatever reason. maybe it is too dangerous to cross the desert for most people, or maybe the people in no mans land and inkadia just arent aware of each other, or maybe both. for whatever reason, there isnt really much communication, and no mans land wasnt really involved in or aware of a lot of the big events of splatoon

so. more into the lore

prior to the great war, some people saw that the water levels starting to rise, and went: oh shit. this leads to the seeds project, but instead of going into space, they head out into the outer splatlands desert. it was a joint project, between the octarians and inklings before they descended into war, so no mans land is inhabited by both octarians and inklings without the influence of the octarian army

however, project seeds didnt have the same cryogenic chambers it does in canon--they werent travelling for years anyways. with the plants being the zapfish, rem ends up finding vash and knives near the zapfish chambers and shes like omg??? zapfishlings??? she keeps them hidden for a bit, then the rest of the crew inevitably find out and it becomes a similar situation to 98'. some people like the twins, some people dont, some people are neutral on them

due to being zapfish instead of plants, their powers tend to be more about producing electricity than the other things they make in canon. however knives isnt knives without his knives, so they both have spines like real life catfish. theyre not venomous, but i might change that. im not sure. instead of generating things, knives, vash, and the zapfish produce electricity that powers the machines that generate things. these machines can use other sources of electricity like windmills, but the zapfish are the best source to use. there are people that know how to take care of these machines, and are called zapfish engineers due to the association

during this time, with inklings and octolings being the way they are, the twins end up as basically being the ships idols in an attempt to win their affections. so they do stuff like normal idols do, doing the news, getting dressed up in cute outfits by ship inhabitants (mostly rem), and performing songs (they both sing, and knives definitely plays the piano and organ. id have to think on vash's instrument and look more at canon lmao. they might just play the piano together im not sure yet). theyre also being taught how to use weapons, because. splatoon

so everything inevitably falls apart, because of course it does. they find tesla. while exploring the ships science department storage, they find her body. tesla had appeared prior to the seeds project, got found by inkfish that arent as kind as rem, and was studied and then killed and dissected. she ended up being kept and put into storage, then being moved into the project seeds storage for future study

they both freak the fuck out, and everything is super tense after that. knives ends up sabotaging the ships, rigging the ships to overload on electricity and explode. he also changes the route so theyll crash. he makes it so the zapfish chambers are left undamaged, like maybe activating blast doors or smth. he also sabotages the emergency escape pods, changing the code to activate them. as only he knows the code, only his and vashs pod is able to shoot off and get away from the bigger ships? project seeds vehicles? eh just vehicles works i guess, because they wouldnt exactly be flying spaceships like canon, more like huge trucks. im still calling them ships though. the people cant just run out, as knives made it so everything happened during a sandstorm so they couldnt escape easily

rem manages to stop the explosions (except ship 5, the one shes on, ofc), but the rest of the ships still crash and get destroyed. the inkfish that lived through the event manage to get past the blast doors, and using the zapfish to survive no mans land gets established

the great cities each have a few zapfish, while smaller cities either have a few mini zapfish or a single zapfish. theres one great zapfish that flies between the different great cities depending on whichever one it feels like hanging out at. i feel like knives would probably have a side quest of trying to catch it, and vash would see it pass by and be like whaddup bro

So this fic started out as a tumblr game. The basic idea was “send me an idea for a fake AU and I’ll give you five facts about that AU.” And @tintagel-or-cockleshells sent me “An AU in which Henry and Alex are exes, also Alex is a rockstar who puts a lot of himself into his songwriting. And there’s a happy ending.”

And… here’s the thing. Up to this point, I’d never had a conversation with tintagel one on one. I’d commented on some of her stuff, she’d commented on some of mine, we’d reblog each others WIP snippets on tumblr. We didn’t know each other outside of that. But EVERY DAMN TIME I did games like this, she would ALWAYS come in with something that made me REALLY wanna game fail and actually write whatever it was. She was just impressively tapped in to the sorts of things that make my brain go brrrrrr 😂

The other thing about tintagel is that she’s on, effectively, an opposite timezone to me. So by the time I answered the ask, she was already in bed. I also hit post on the answer and then immediately went into an hour-long meeting…

And came out of said meeting to like 40 notifications and a DEEP sense of confusion until I actually opened them. It popped off, and I absolutely succumbed to the peer pressure. Which meant that by the time tintagel was back online in her morning, this fic had run the full gamut from “this is a fake AU” to “this has a google doc and oh my god I think I’m writing original songs send help”.

At first I thought it would be MOSTLY epistolary, because I was really attached to #3, and then I had a brainwave about how I could make that epistolary, so… now it’s fully epistolary. I’m gonna have to create MULTIPLE new skins for this sucker. As well as like… recording original songs, because I have never made a sensible decision in my life.

And if you think I can’t inflict immense emotional damage via epistolary, I have a lot of Schitt’s Creek pals who would be HAPPY to prepare you for the Suffering ™️😂

“I wanted to see you though!” You pouted as you looked up at the entrance to the broken temple place. “I got a vision!”

“Oh?” You clapped eagerly as the familiar teal eyes slowly blinked open in front of you. The big Bard pulled himself up a little so he could see you properly, ever so gently ruffling your hair with a single finger. “What element is it?”

“Anemo!” You exclaimed proudly. “Mama said Bardabatos gave me his blessing!”

Venti barely held back his laughter at the butchering of his Archon name. “I see, you must have impressed the Anemo God for sure.”

“I think he’s happy I made friends with you, Mister Bard!” You grinned, the wind gently playing around you, at your whim and Venti’s supervision. “Does that mean I get to see you stand up now?”

Venti bit back a groan. He had promised you that when you were older and gained a vision he would show you his entire form. He didn’t think it would come so soon, nor that you would remember the promise. 

“Alright little one, but we’ll have to be careful. If the wrong person sees me stand up they could hurt me.” He hummed softly, the noise causing you to giggle more as the air around you practically vibrated with the sound. “Come here, I need to make sure I don’t lose you now.”

You practically threw yourself into his open hand, the warmth of his hand was like the nicest bed in the world. You watched in awe from where you were laying on your back as he began to get up, your mind spinning like the windmills as he seemed to unfold. White fabric wrapped around him, but as you watched it slowly changed to green. Eventually he was sitting upright and you jumped up in indignation. 

“You’re not standing up!” You accused, pouting as he merely chuckled at you. 

“I can’t stand up here, I’ll break the rest of the Thousand Winds Temple little one.” Venti explained softly. “And I don’t want to scare anyone in Mondstadt that might see me from the city. They don’t know about me after all.”

“Oh right! Mister Bard is supposed to be a secret.” You sighed softly, playing with your vision. “I hope Bardabados keeps you safe from any mean people.”

“I’ll be fine, little one.” Venti smiled, slowly laying down again but on his back this time. “When you get much older, find the Dandelion Sea. I’ll show you my true height then, alright?”

“Okay!” Venti smiled at the eagerness in your voice. He watched as the sky began to burn with sunset and sent you off back to Mondstadt. He stared at the sky as the stars began to appear and smiled, tracing the new constellation in the sky.

So! I read the recent chapter anonymously, as I’ve been doing, but I couldn’t let myself forget an installment like this. I was a little nervous, given the subject of this one (secondhand embarrassment go brrrrrr) but it’s probably one of the best recent chapters! The descriptions were all so good. My favorites were the re-animator reference, as a mad science enjoyer I can’t overlook something that iconic, and the way Springtrap thinks about guts and organs is both gross and enticing. I’m actually way more curious about the anatomy going on with his new form now. My dude has guts! I also love the references to Nora and Issac. They may be in the past, but Springtrap still remembers them. And the part where Nolan is resting and Springtrap is thinking about his well-being? It’s amazing. This is some of your best stuff in a while! It’s domestic, but not exactly in a fluffy way. These are still killers. But there’s a humanity to their relationship, even when things get awkward. Speaking of awkward, or rather, speaking of stuff that wasn’t awkward, your POV change wasn’t bad at all! It was really smooth and easy to pick up on. I have a hard time changing perspectives in the middle of a chapter, but this one worked really well. Stuff like this is why I like MT. I don’t just read it because my tumblr mutual writes it, I read it because it’s fascinating! It’s definitely one of a kind. And lately it’s been so good. Writing every day has its benefits, because this series only improves with time. I can’t wait to see what happens next. (Good luck to Nolan with that conversation, though…)

to me it made sense that springtrap would harbor more strange topics about nolan's organics because springtrap has naturally forgotten plenty of realities about being human! which means. he's going to be weird about watching nolan eat food

Their story takes place in the municipality of Asalorez, which I recently found out is the Philippine equivalent of a town, you learn something new everyday. However, the main setting where all the stabby stabby things happen would be in Colegio de Santa Mariana, a private catholic school on the outskirts of the municipality that has a much more prestigous branch in Manila.

I'm still working on the lore of my worldbuilding because while Asalorez is a fictional mix of my surroundings the political scenario plays a heavy role in it, especially in the school, and I, like so many people out there, have a love-hate relationships with politics rn. ================================================ There's definitely more important stuff that need to be added, a lot of things have to be taken into considerations, but so far bear witness to what two to threeish years of daydreaming gets you to.
