Tables by the door (2)

Rogue’s Practice Kit

This is canon, but feels necessary. Healing potions, lightning elixirs etc. Sometimes she and Harding work together in the infirmary or elsewhere, but the kit always ends up back in her room. Sometimes she mixes when she can’t sleep.

Neatly Stacked Sheet music

When Cyri starts using the music room, the Lighthouse sometimes provides the odd page of a piece of music she remembers (a la Lucanis’s joyous Wyvern) and she starts collecting them in stacks. Also occasionally Emmrich gifts her music which she’s always very embarrassed about.

Pitcher & Washbasin

Cyri doesn’t mind getting dirty but likes to wash up. Good for a short scrub down in the morning/before bed when a full bath isn’t necessary and/or practical

Whetstone

Like the above, very practical. Always making sure those throwing knives are sharp. Often does this before bed, Cyri finds it oddly soothing.

Asorted Tomes

Most from Tevinter but some picked up on her travels. All are history/war strategy based. Some written in old tevene and practically falling apart. Others are in common, collected from some of the other factions, and one from the crossroads that seems to have been originally penned by ancient elves

Wood-Carved Rook

Presumably made by familiar hands (it was) Manfred brought it to her with tea one night. She was too embarrassed to bring it up to Davrin but it’s always displayed where she can see it.

Wall Hangings (2)

Tevinter Mirror

Hangs above the washbasin for practical reasons. Also reminds her of home. But because i can’t resist it is also an ouroboros, which is representative of the cyclical nature of birth/death and also a load of other things that all feel relevant. First time Harding sees it she does her cute little disgusted face and tells Cyri that it's super creepy.

Tapestry of a cliffside Beach, Ventus

Its a really nice tapestry she stole out off an Altus family when raiding their house to free their slaves. Ventus pre-invasion is really nostalgic for her because she spent her younger years there. So she’s kept it with her. Makes her a little melancholy to look at but also hopeful. I like to think that everyone else thinks its weird she has a fancy beach pic up in her room when she literally cannot swim, but no one asks about it.

Bonsai Tree

This is kind of canon, but I’ve incorporated it into my canon via the Rook’s Birthday fic i wrote. At some point in her travels with Harding and Varric they came across one of these and Rook found it cute, but remarked to Harding that she’s never be able to keep one alive because she’s never really settled down and couldn’t take it with her. For her birthday, Harding gets her one which is special both bc she remembered and because Rook has a permanent place to be for a while so she can finally have one :')

Disused Thurible

Usually used to distribute incense at mass, this one sits untouched and still smelling faintly of frankincense and citrus. Stolen from a Chantry in Marothius. It's scratched and slightly dented from being hauled around thoughtlessly in a rucksack for many years.

Oh, I meant to post this earlier in the week. Someone who works in my building (and loves Black Butler) left this on my locker last week, using the Strontium magnet that I randomly keep there.

When she found out I wasn't going to do a Sebby costume for Halloween this year, she was bummed, and I invited her to my recent tea party, but she wasn't able to attend.

Calypso de Riva – Fear demon

They mimic forms they see in the nightmares of mortals, hoping to elicit the response they crave. I debated for a while; should it be fear or despair? Despair demons felt fitting too, but in the end, I went with my first instinct, because at her core, Calypso is built on fear and shaped by it.

As a child, she lived in fear. She feared the ever looming Harrowing, the silence of Tranquility, the cold eyes of the Templars watching every flicker of her hands. She feared that this gilded cage of caution would be all she'd ever know.

As a Crow, it wasn't death that haunted her, but Viago's disappointment. The possibility that he'd change his mind, that he'd stop teaching her, stop seeing something worthy in her. That she'd find a place to belong only to lose it all again.

As the leader of the Veilguard, there's no room left for fear anymore; not when every gaze turns toward her, hungry for direction, full of hope or doubt or both. But her fear doesn't leave – it simply hides better. And what better disguise than running headfirst into danger, grinning like it's all just a game? Than becoming larger than life, so no one notices how small you feel underneath?

Still, the fear stays. Still, it lingers like a shadow behind every triumph.

Still, she learns. Perhaps slowly, definitely painfully, but she learns: fear only wins if she lets it.

(And if she were a spirit, I think she'd be one of Courage or Valor, which, when twisted, would make her a Fear demon (I assume?), and that makes it doubly fitting.)

Terrarium

Sabriel needs nature around when she can get it, and collecting bones is not out of the ordinary for a Nevarran. She can't always care for the plants so a self-contained system is best for her.

Wash Basin and Pitcher

A nice set, a gift from one of her guardians once she became an adult. She likes to be clean and in fact is very focused on it because of medical practices.

Tables by the Aquarium:

Carved Dog

A gift from Davrin, after she told him a few stories about church grims (which I've decided are a story in Thedas, fight me)

Elven Lantern

Needs light in the room! She got this one from Bellara, who told her that the light from the aquarium wasn't enough.

Plethora of Books

She loves to read, and her collection of books is everything from bad murder mysteries to Hard in Hightown to textbooks to religious texts.

Skeleton Hand

A hand that was gifted to her.

Carved Crow

Another gift from Davrin, a very not-subtle hint. She appreciated it anyway :)

Drawing supplies

She's not an incredibly talented artist but she loves studying plants and their shapes, including in art. Much like Davrin is trying to make a proper monster manual, she's trying to make a very detailed compendium for the libraries of Nevarra, for the other Watchers that rarely ever leave.

Dried funeral flowers

Drying the flowers keeps them viable longer, and also reminds her that even death can be beautiful in its own way.

Forest tapestry

This is something she picks up in Treviso at some point during the game. She falls in love with the woods throughout the course of their adventures. If she can't always be in Harding's greenhouse, she can have some shapes and colors of nature to help keep her rooted while in the Lighthouse.

Qatesh's nice little things might be a little boring in this regard, but here goes..!

Tables by the Door:

Sewing Kit

Used to wearing hand-me-down tunics, Qatesh is super mindful of keeping her clothes in good condition, which means darning and mending everything- both for her and her team. She won't leave the house without her sewing kit!

Jar of Vitaar

Part of her outside persona, and how she covers up some of her scars. She prefers the water-soluble cake type that won't dry out as quickly, for when she's out and about. She chose dark blue and silver as "her" colours: Silver sky for the swallows she loves so much, and dark blue sea because that's where the Lords found her. It also matches her eyes.

Cross spindle and wool

After finding a spinning wheel in one of the Lighthouse's storage rooms, Qatesh decided she wants to reconnect with her past, because spinning is a very good way of calming her down. To save on space and have something portable for when they're out adventuring, Taash got her a Rivaini-style cross-arm spindle with colourful rolags to work on, which will hopefully soon be transformed into...

Half-knitted sock

Lucanis is teaching her how to knit! It's a long hard road because Qatesh was never taught anything else than spinning, so she gets easily frustrated. But it's a great way of connecting with the team and hey, you get a sock, too! :)

Bookshelf:

Stuffed Sheep Plush

A present for her by Danya Laidir when she found out little Qatesh never had a plushie growing up. By now the little sheep has turned grey and is is all matted and scruffy, but when she can't sleep, Qatesh will reach over and hug it tight.

Inkle-loom hair band

Also a gift from her "Ma" Laidir who hoped Qatesh could maybe use it to play around and experiment a bit to find her own style. Spoiler: it didn't happen. As the hairband was the prettiest thing Qatesh ever possessed, she didn't dare use it. She does take it out from time to time to remember her Ma. And she vowed to wear the hairband one day, woven into a braid, if ever she got invited to a party.

Notebook and quill pen

Qatesh is barely literate. With the first gold she got from the Lords, she went to the market and bought herself a beautiful quill pen and a notebook, telling herself she'd properly learn to write and read now. Obviously it never happened, but hope persists.

Beauty and Haircare Kit

Ever since she was little, it was drummed into her that she needs to keep her hair long and in perfect condition (not of her own volition, but here we are). Since becoming part of the Lords, some of her income always goes into either hair- or skincare supplies such as lotions, scented oils and soaps. Now that the worst days of her cystic acne are over, she tries to make sure her skin is always well cared for.

Swallow Tapestry

Qatesh found a little tapestry in a market during her travels with Varric and Harding. Of course the swallow from Seheron needed something cute that reminded her of how far she'd come!

Embroidered lace chemise

Another thing she got "for later" she never got around to wearing or using. Although Qatesh feels she isn't the type for lacy clothes, she couldn't resist this one. The chemise usually sits at the bottom of her pack, carefully folded, but at the Lighthouse, Qatesh decided to hang it on a peg on the wall so she could look at it and dream about a fitting situation when she could finally wear it.

Tables (2 items)

Elven Bass (in game item)

Much like Antivan Sprig's Lisel, Alana is a bass player. Viago wanted them to learn an instrument as part of their Crow training, in case they needed to go undercover as a musician for an assassination contract. After trying and getting frustrated with the more obvious choices of piano and violin, Teia gave Alana this elven bass that she got from a Dalish contact. Alana picked it up quickly and learned some traditional Antivan and elven tunes. They play it when they need to think, but have never performed with it in front of others.

Vanity Kit

Alana never goes anywhere without their makeup. They favour dramatic purple eyeshadow, smoky eyeliner, and dark black lips. It may not be subtle, it may not be traditionally beautiful, but it makes Alana feel like a badass Crow. For certain battles or contracts, they paint their face with streaks of black and purple, obscuring their features or shading their eyes even further. The kit also contains various perfumes from the Treviso market, another part of Alana's regular preparations to face the day.

Bookcases (4 items)

Novels and Serials

Borrowed from Bellara, mostly, though Alana has taken to buying their own whenever they pass through Minrathous. Reading "trashy" books helps them unwind after a long day. Alana enjoys sapphic romances and whodunnit mysteries. They can't stand books about assassins, though - they always get the details wrong.

Azure Crow Mask (in game item)

Given to Alana on the night they became a fully fledged Crow. This was a deeply significant moment in their life and they keep the mask on display as a reminder of who they are, even when the world seems spiralling out of their control.

Decanter of Antivan Brandy

With two glasses for sharing with a certain detective who may have reason to spend the evening in Alana's room. This is a rare vintage, which Alana stole from Viago's personal collection (after checking for poison of course). It is mellow and sweet, with hints of exotic fruit. A drink for sipping while telling stories long into the night.

Medical and Poison Kit

As a mage, Alana doesn't tend to use poisons as a weapon, but every de Riva fledgling received extensive poison training, to build up immunity and to know how to make antidotes out of common ingredients, as well as basic field medic training to tend to injuries on the job. Alana keeps a medical kit in a small case, in easy reach just in case they ever need it.

Walls (2 items)

Weapons Rack

Alana is meticulously organised. Keeping your weapons clean, polished, sharp and ready was drilled into them in their training. One wall features a number of mageknives, from the first basic blade they were given as a Crow through to ornate enchanted knives with jewels and crystals embedded in their hilts, and carved filigree running down their curving blades. You can tell the ones Alana uses in combat the most from their more worn handles and scuffed metal. Others are purely decorative, or taken as trophies from contracts.

Painting of the Drowned District

A reminder of where they came from - not the gilded spires of Treviso's wealthy core, painted in so many classical landscapes, but the humble poverty of the city's Drowned District, where dockhands and fishermen eke out a living on the edges of the city and the sea.

I chose Van Gogh's lesser-known "starry night" painting, Starry Night over the Rhone (1888) to represent this image. Alana is more drawn to impressionism and the emotional play of light and brushstrokes than the technical accuracy of the classical Antivan Masters.

Aquarium Tables (2 items)

Chess Board

Alana enjoys chess and played it with Viago a lot as a fledgling. He used it as a way of teaching Alana how to read their opponents, getting to know their strategies, their tells, their approach to battle. In the lighthouse, they play mostly with Emmrich who is something of a master, at least when Manfred isn't knocking the pieces off the board.

Vase of Lilacs

Alana keeps this in a position where they can see it when they are sitting on the sofa or meditating. The magic of the Fade keeps the flowers fresh for far longer than they would normally last.

Tables by the doors

1. Poison/Potion making kit.

A gift from Teia when Kalias went back to Treviso for the first time since his exile. While technically portable, its unruly size keeps it at the lighthouse most of the time. It’s much more organized than his previous method of tossing it into his leather bag and hoping nothing spilled.

2. Poorly made stuffed rats (x2)

While not as well made as the photo above, Kalias sports two stuffed Rats. They resemble his two pet rats (Bellini and Rico) that he left at home when he was exiled, putting them into the care of Tina (oc of mine), A middle-late aged Antivian woman who is the de Riva housekeeper/groundskeeper. One can tell they were made by someone in distress as they were made extremely quickly and uncarefully.

3. Chantry necklace with a stack of Chantry books under it

Given to him by the Mother of the Sele Chantry. She was in awe that he attended every week, despite his harsh training and his background as a Dalish elf. He was always polite and when they heard that he and Viago were moving to Treviso, they came together and bought him several chantry books wrapped in a necklace with a holy symbol on it. He cherishes these gifts like his faith.

4. A stack of old books.

Old books, worn by time and well used. It includes books such as “Antivian Primary”, “Antivian manners and social graces”, and “Antivian history”, There’s also just a book labeled “puns”. It can be safely assumed that these were books given to him by Viago when he first began his training 20 years ago. Except the pun book. How’d that get there? :3

5. A deck of cards, the Ace of spades flipped up.

“The Ace is the most versatile card in the deck. It can make or break a game.” This is what Viago told him as he gave the nickname of “Ace” to Kalias. He gave him this nickname very early on in Kalias’ training when Viago realized he picked up a prodigy. The current deck is stolen from Teia’s casino.

6. An envelope with a completed contract inside

He has his first completed contract in an envelope on his bookshelf. He received it at 14, the talon assigning it assuming he would fail. He shot one arrow and took out the target. Viago was very smug for quite some time (although he never directly told Kalias how proud of him he was)

7. A coffee cup that says “You’ve been poisoned” on the inside of the cup.

A gift from Lucanis. Thought it was cute since Kalias loves coffee, especially fancy coffees. He is also aware that Kalias is a poisons master (and drinks poison daily. Still doesn’t get that but figures it’s a de Riva thing. It’s not. Just a Kalias and Viago thing). Spite thinks it’s funny

8. Empty testosterone bottles

Oops, looks like someone needs a refill! Kalias puts all of his testosterone bottles together so he doesn't mix them up with his poison bottles! Plus, he's always adding to the collection since he'll buy glass vials if they're pretty or shiny.

9. A picture of a Vhenadahl, drawn by an elven artist.

A picture of a Vhenadahl, but specifically the one in Denerim. It's not certain how Kalias obtained this art, since he hasn't been to Ferelden since his kidnapping at 6. The artist note states that it was a local elven artist, so the art was bought in Ferelden somewhere. Also, he's a Dalish Ferelden elf, so why does he even have this?

10. A periodic table of sorts (Or whatever the Thedas equivalent would be)

It has alchemical notes all over the bottom of the poster, with notes on effects of several different chemicals and their neutralizers. It's also got little notes pinned on the sides with notes from several of the Veilguard (Emmerich, Bellara, Davrin, Harding and Lucanis) plus some other notes from other Crows (Teia, but Viago mostly) about Poisons, herbs, and other such matters!
