It’s dark by the time you feel the strength of The Pull reaching its peak, and you know what that means. You look around into the darkness. In the wastes there isn’t much besides stretches of empty barren land and mountains in the distance. You know you’re not yet at your destination which can only mean one thing; the boy with the flag was headed toward you too.
You see twin lights in the distance. A car headed toward you. Eventually you stop in the middle of the road and just wait. The lights get closer until they shine on your windscreen and you both sit, unmoving, just waiting for the other to make the first move.
You cut the truck’s engine and step out.
The boy does the same. The light of your vehicles illuminate the night just enough that you can make each other out in the darkness.
The boy steps forward enough so that he is thrown into view and you can see the warm brown of his eyes, his features which are so different from Troy’s, softer but still strong.
You hesitate. Your gun is tucked in the back of your jeans and your fingers twitch.
The boy speaks.
“Hi… I’m Nick.”
You don’t say anything, you just keep watching until he clears his throat as if a little unsure of himself.
“You came alone?” he asks.
You could have kicked yourself. Coming alone had been a risk but now that he was here, in the middle of nowhere, and no one knew where you’d gone, you realised how vulnerable you’d left yourself.
“For now,” you answered him flatly. At least if you were vague about whether you had people with you it might make him have second thoughts if he was planning anything…
The boy waits a beat before trying again.
“I guess you felt it too then…”
You don’t want to say the words out loud so you simply nod your head. The boy, Nick, continues.
“I thought I was going crazy at first. I never thought I’d find my… find you. Feel it, you know?”
You frown at this. Everyone worries they’ll never find their soulmate but something in his voice captures your attention. It’s less that he’s worried about the odds and more… something you can’t quite distinguish.
“Why?” you ask.
Nick hesitated before shrugging a little.
“That’s a… it doesn’t matter. What matters now is that I found you. It feels… weird. Don’t you think?”
Perhaps if you hadn’t already had the experience with Troy you would agree. But you didn’t want him to know that Troy was your soulmate and so you don’t answer his question.
“Look I came here to warn you. Some of the people from my community are coming back tonight to finish what they started. You need to tell your people to run.”
Nick frowns at this information.
“We agreed to a truce-“
You shake your head in annoyance. You don’t want to explain all this. You want him to just listen to your warning and leave so you can forget about whatever this mistake is between you both and go home, go back to Troy.
“They’re acting of their own accord. Some of the men have certain… loyalties. This isn’t about protecting their home, it’s about revenge.”
Nick is watching you closely now and you don’t like the way his eyes are roaming over you. You freeze. You wonder if he can feel your emotions just like you can with Troy. You reach out in the same way you do with Troy and try to find Nick, to feel what he feels… there’s nothing. Just the regular sense of The Pull.
“You’re warning me because of this feeling between us? You came looking for me because of it.”
You shake your head growing more frustrated as all you want to do is head back before Mike and the others see you out here.
“I don’t have time to explain myself. You have to get your people and go far away from here. Don’t come back.”
Nick’s eyes widen as he realises you have no intention of staying with him.
“But… you have to come with me. When I left earlier, after I saw you, it felt like my heart was being-“
“It doesn’t matter.” You say quickly, all too familiar with that pain. “I can’t come. I won’t go with you. But I don’t want you to die either so, please, leave.”
Nick is staring at you incredulously.
“I can’t do that.”
You actually growl from your frustration with him.
“Why!?”
“Because,” Nick says as he steps closer. You take a large step away from him. You can’t risk him getting too close, having him touch you. You don’t know what will happen.
“I just found you. I can’t walk away!” he continues.
“Then run! Drive! Fucking skip for all I care! If you stay, you die. Not that I care-“
“That’s a lie.” Nick cuts you off quickly. “Soulmates need each other. Hearts literally break when they lose one another. So why… why are you denying this?”
You swallow nervously and look at the truck. You could just get back in and drive away, but what if he follows? You have a feeling he would. He seems the type. Reckless and stubborn.
“I… it’s complicated.”
You say, and you hate how pathetic that sounds.
“‘It’s Complicated’ used to be a Facebook status.” Nick quips. “Tell me the truth. Why run from me?”
“I’m not!”
“Then what are you running from!? Or… wait… what are you going back to?”
You clench your jaw as Nick slowly starts to put the pieces together in his head.
“You have someone-“
“No.”
“A boyfriend? Fiancé?”
“No! No one!”
“Your home then, your community. You’re worried this would cause a problem. Conflict? But maybe it could help solve the bad blood between us! Two soulmates who find each other on opposites sides-“
“This isn’t bloody Romeo and Juliet, Nick!”
He grins and it makes you want to slap the beautiful smile off his face.
“You’re hardly Juliet sweetheart.”
You snarl, your anger beginning to erupt. Why won’t he just listen! Why make this so complicated!
“Whatever! Just get in your car and drive away Romeo!”
Nick laughs and it’s almost like he’s enjoying this.
“Oh the universe is truly a bitch. I didn’t think I’d find my soulmate because I didn’t deserve one. But maybe I do. It’s ironic that she would hate me, a poetic kind of punishment I guess…”
Your expression eases but doesn’t soften as you listen to him ramble. Hate? You didn’t hate him…
“Why would you be punished?” you ask, your senses on alert in case this was the part where he confesses to being a serial killer or something.
Nick shrugs again.
“If you got to know me, you’d understand.”
You shake your head again with a weary sigh.
“You don’t listen do you.”
Nick steps forward again and this time the light moves so he’s back in the shadows with you.
“I could… but you’d need to actually tell me something for me to hear it. Something besides “run away” because that isn’t happening.”
You swear at him and he smirks.
“We don’t have time. Your people will be killed.”
Nick rubs his hand over the back of his neck and it finally seems to dawn on him, he has other responsibilities. Other people to protect.
“When are your people attacking?”
“They’re leaving the ranch around midnight, so probably by the early hours of the morning. Before sunrise though.”
“Element of surprise, cover of darkness. They’re smart.”
“And well armed. So will you listen to me now?”
Nick stares at you for a few seconds and you almost believe he’d let his people risk being slaughtered instead of going back to warn them.
“Fine.”
You blink at him.
“Fine?”
“That’s what I said. I’ll go back. I’ll warn them.”
“And you’ll run? You can’t fight back, it’ll be a bloodbath.”
“Look I can’t promise anything… we have some stubborn members of our group and they might not take the truce being broken well-“
“The truce isn’t broken. It’s just a small group-“
“Still breaking the truce. Still disobeying your leader, right?”
You bite your tongue. Jeremiah wasn’t their “leader” officially but he was as good as.
“Yeah. Yeah, I guess. So what? You’ll go back and they’ll try to defend themselves?”
Nick shrugs again.
“If they think it’s more beneficial than running.”
You pinch the bridge of your nose.
“I’m getting a damn headache.”
For some reason this amuses Nick.
“Head rub?”
Your look at him is deadly and he sniggers.
“Joking. Lighten up. Look, I’ll go back and do what I can to stop anymore death. But I can’t promise anything. We lost people. The guy who was in charge came at us like a demon. We didn’t stand a chance…”
Your stomach twists as Nick talks about Troy.
“You want revenge?”
Nick’s expression blanks out and you recognise the perfectly controlled mask on his face. You’d used it yourself before.
“Me? No. But there are those who do.”
“Then convince them their lives aren’t worth it. Tonight is not their night to die. Please… no more death.”
Your voice breaks as you finish your sentence and Nick tilts his head at you. You look away, hating that you’d let some vulnerability slip through.
“Who’d you lose?”
You take a slow breath and shake your head.
“Doesn’t matter. Just… do what you can. And if you can’t save them… save yourself at least.”
Nick looks like he wants to say more. He looks pained.
“Can I… see you again?”
It’s almost laughable. Like a schoolboy asking out his crush. You place your hand on the door of the truck and grip it tight as you give him a firm “no” and turn away before you can see the look on his face.
You slide into your truck and slam the door, locking it before turning in the engine. This was for the best. You didn’t know what else to do. There had been some mistake and maybe Nick had another soulmate out there somewhere too? You hoped so… you didn’t want him to be in pain.
You hear a tap at the window and you look over to see Nick still standing there, motioning for you to wind it down. You do, only a few inches so you can hear him speak.
Nick pauses as he looks you over before speaking.
“It’s him, isn’t it.”
You frown and Nick elaborates.
“The guy who attacked us. The one who was hurt. He’s why you won’t stay with me.”
You feel your stomach drop. Your hands clench on the wheel as you grit your teeth.
“His name is Troy.”
“Troy…” Nick repeats and you hear the sadness and disappointment in his voice. “Well, you must love him a lot to choose him over your soulmate.”
You avoid his eyes still and stare straight ahead until the light from his car burns your eyes.
Nick continues.
“… I hope he makes it, for your sake. And… I want you to know it wasn’t me. I didn’t hurt him.”
You nod, not that it would have mattered. As much as you loved Troy you could understand he’d made a choice that led to his own injuries. Even if he’d done it to protect you… you hated that the blood that had been spilt was on your hands too now.
“I have to go,” you say emptily and put the truck into reverse.
Nick steps back just in time to save his foot being run over as you reverse and turn, glancing back to see his shadow in the headlights as you drive back home. Back to Troy. Back to where your heart felt complete as you tried to ignore how it felt as if you’d just left a piece of it in the darkness behind you…

The Cinderella Moment
Pairing: reader x (you choose)
Summary: You are a broke college student who works for a very stuck up, arrogant and rude rich family. They give you food and shelter and so you always accept their impossible orders with a nod. But their order to go to a ball, disguised as their daughter might just flip your world upside down.
Tumblr media
Warnings: Riches being shitty, reader's broke, verbal abuse.
A/n: This is an experiment and I dunno how it's gonna turn out, but if you like it then please do reblog.
"8 weeks? Can't it heal faster? The ball is just around the corner." The shrill voice of madam Abigail pierced your ears as you discreetly rubbed them.
The doctor who was sitting at the injured Rose's side shook his head and said. "No, Mrs. Thompson. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for a broken arm to fully heal."
Madam Abigail fall down on one of the chairs dramatically and you rolled your eyes as you took in the scene from a secluded corner of the room.
You were a college student. Well, a broke college student to be exact. You did get into a prestigious college on scholarship but the other bills were crippling down on you. You didn't want to burden your parents as your financial background was not favorable. After working in cafes and fast food chains, living in crappy apartments and skipping breakfast everyday. When you saw the job posting for a house keeper with housing and food, you jumped on it like a cat jumping on a ball.
You were finally able to move out of your shitty apartment with not so nice company into a decent maid's room and the food was also better than the leftovers at your previous jobs.
However, not everything was rainbows and sunshines. Your employer was horrible, condescending, rude and overall the epitome of rich, stuck-up assholes. You now worked almost 24/7, having to be present on a whim and maintaining everything into perfection.
It was like retail job, just no off time with Karens screaming at you all the time. But you didn't give a fuck. Every insult hurled at you would fall on deaf ears because you learnt long time ago that detachment really annoyed people with superiority complex.
Mr. Thompson was rarely home so it was only Abigail and her ducklings following her around. The only person who was nice to you was laying on the bed with a broken arm. The only one eligible for the grand ball.
Oh, the grand ball? It was a masquerade party, the most hyped upcoming event, organized by one of the richest man in the country, so he could find someone to settle down with. People called him prince because he was the youngest in the bunch of old billionaires.
Of course it was nothing but arranged marriage and someone actually meeting the prince and catching his eyes would be like finding a needle in a haystack. But there would be many other wealthy suitors than just him. So, needless to say, the ball was a gold mine for potential catches.
Abigail and many of her tea time friends were so furious that only girls above 18 were allowed. They would send their nine year old if it meant snatching a good deal.
And so seeing the only candidate from their family injured and unattractive. Abigail was devasted to say the least.
"Is there really no way for a speedy recovery? Can she not wear her cast on the night of the ball? It's really important." She Shrieked.
The doctor was agitated but contained it well and answered in a balanced voice. "Unfortunately, no. We cannot dictate when the recovery would happen and she needs to wear the cast all the time for the arm to heal properly and effectively. You should take care of your daughter."
Abigail scoffed at that and sobbed into her handkerchief, not even sparing Rose a glance. She was visibly upset by it but probably did not want any drama as she whispered out. "Mom, it's going to be alright. It okay."
Abigail's head snapped towards Rose as she scowled at her daughter. "How is it going to be alright? You're going to miss such a great opportunity. And you're so stupid. How did you fall from the stairs? Do you not have eyes? I'm so unfortunate to have an useless child like you..." Abigail continued to berate her daughter and you sneakily went to the doctor to escort him out as the scene was about to turn ugly and he didn't sign up for a reality TV show.
The doctor thanked you and handed you a prescription. You nodded and went back. Sure enough, they were both shouting at each other now. Rose tried to shot back but since she was injured, she lacked her usual ferocity as Abigail managed to dominated her.
You shook your head in exasperation and opened your mouth to interrupt. You might get into trouble for this but you couldn't watch Abigail scold a sick and fragile Rose, when she did nothing to deserve it.
"Madam, I think you should let miss Rose rest and it might help with a quicker recovery." You said and braced yourself to get chewed out.
Abigail spun on her heels, her whale-like face flushed with rage as she pointed a harsh finger at you and started. "You don't need to meddle-" She cut herself off as a look of awe dawned on her face, like she had an epiphany.
She rushed towards you. Grabbing you by the arm and dragged you beside Rose. What is this woman doing? You didn't want to get yelled at so you remained there with a bewildered frown as Abigail's assessing gaze flicked between you and Rose, her smile widening with each gaze.
After the tenth gaze, Abigail clapped her hands in glee and exclaimed. "Perfect. You are perfect." And stared at you.
"I'm perfect for what?" You asked with a raised eyebrow.
"You are perfect to go to the ball as Rose. Just look at you two both, look like pretty twins." Abigail gushed, her eyes twinkling with hope.
You gawked at her, applaud. "Are you shitting me?"
Abigail snapped her eyes at you and barked. "Mind your language, servant."
You put up your hand. "Ma'am, I won't. I have done everything you asked me to do. From cleaning the deepest corner of the mansion by myself to entertaining pervy men. I have done everything, but I won't do this. I won't go in place of Rose. I don't want to deceit anyone." You ranted.
This woman had asked you to do so many egregious things and you did them without any complaint. However, this is where you draw the line. It was alright when you were the only one taking the brunt of her deviousness but if she wants you to deceive other people, you wouldn't do it.
Considering you had just been lied to yourself. The man who claimed to love you, got engaged with someone else without a peep of protest. You were just his play thing.
Abigail looked like she wanted to slap you as her face flushed red and her eyes twitched. "You ungrateful, brat. I gave you a roof, food, safety and that's how you repay me? By counting all the bare minimum you have done? I thought that maybe you had some sense of integrity but I should have known better," She scoffed wryly and looked you dead in the eye. "Tell me, how much you want me to pay you to go to this ball?"
To all the insults you have been subjected to, this genuinely offended you. "Ma'am, you could sell your morals for money but I can't. Even if you give me a billion dollar I won't go. I don't want to trick someone into believing I'm somebody else. This is my boundary I won't cross."
Abigail sneered. "Just drop your act already-"
"Mom, let me talk to her." Rose interjected and you flashed her a determined look. You weren't going to budge on this one.
"What would you talk to her? You are just as dumb as her." Abigail yelled.
"If I didn't convince her then you can call me as many insults as you'd like. Now please, get out." She responded, softy but firmly.
Abigail huffed and whined but left the room nonetheless, the door clicking shut but you knew she was right outside the door, listening to everything and so did Rose as she beckoned you to the bed. You sighed and sat down beside her.
"Listen, you should go. Have fun, eat expensive food and rob my mother of as much money as you need to get out of here. And before you start about deceit and all that. You don't need to meet anyone, just imagine what are your chances of meeting the prince and catching his eye? Maybe one percent. Every women would be busy fawning over him, you won't even get an opportunity." Rose explained in a hushed voice.
When she put it like that it didn't sound bad but you were still apprehensive. "But I have already said no to the money, if I demand it now then she would be proven correct and what about the other suitors?" You countered.
"Who cares what my mother thinks of you? She already thinks you are inferior and nothing would change that, then why not use the opportunity and get out of her claws? And as for the other suitors, as I said you don't need to meet anyone there. My mother won't be there to make sure you are putting in the efforts or not." She argued.
"You sure you are Abigail's bio daughter? You doesn't seem to like her much." You half joked, half lamented. Now the idea of going to the ball wasn't looking bad or deceitful. Just a solace night in a pretty dress.
Rose let out a bitter laugh. "Unfortunately, I'm. And I don't like the way you are treated but that's the only thing I can do. Plus, the event may cheer you up, since you're going through a lot right now..." She trailed off, probably not wanting to open your fresh wound.
You hummed quietly and let the room get silent. After some hesitation, you whispered. "You did it intentionally." It wasn't a question, it was a statement. Rose was far from being clumsy or reckless so for her to fall from the stairs she could navigate blindly. It was rather suspicious.
"I let my love go once y/n. I can't let it go again." She whispered back.
You gulped due to the tension. "So, shall I call your mother?" You asked to lighten the mood and it worked as Rose beamed at you and nodded her head.
"So, you'd go?" She asked hopefully.
"Yes, I'd go." You said with a grin, image be damned Rose was right. Scam Abigail and get the fuck out of there.
You opened the door and a very annoyed and impatient Abigail stomped inside. She glowered at you expectantly and you cleared your throat.
"After Rose's arguments, I have decided to go to the ball. If you give me my desired price." You said monotonously.
A look of smugness crossed her face as she scoffed and said. "I knew it. So much for morals. Now spit your price."
And so you did.
You asked for an amount that would keep you afloat for a year. You had initially asked for 4 years worth of money, yes greedy. But you knew it would not make a dent in their bank balance and you really wanted to get back for all the obnoxious and unreasonable things she had made you do it.
However, Abigail wasn't pleased with this offer as she shouted that she would only give you that amount if you managed to woo the prince. You had no plans for doing that so you let go of that notion.
It gave you the much needed vacation from your work but the practice that came afterwards almost made you take back your offer and go back to scrubbing the floors.
The process to become Rose was strenuous. From how you walked to how you talked, everything needed to be exactly like Rose. Cursing was thrown out the window. You had to walk slowly with small steps with a sway of your hips, no long strides were allowed. Heck, you couldn't even slouch. Although you didn't receive a scathing hit by wooden stick, Abigail's earbiting voice and insults were not any pleasant either.
You had to speak like you were talking to crickets, poised and low. Cracking Rose's accent and voice was the toughest task but you pulled it off. Everything was so meticulous, from clothing to manners to behavior. These effluent women had to be perfect, not human. But it was all useless as you wouldn't be behaving like the perfect little doll at the ball. Maybe it would help you further down the line to snatch a rich man if you turned out to be a failure.
Rose also got some relief from her banshee of a mother as she mostly helped you and took care of herself, her mother didn't give two fucks about her daughter's health.
That was how the days passed and here you were now, sitting ahead of Rose's vanity as Abigail dolled you up for the ball. She didn't hire any stylist or artist as it could risk her scheme getting out, no matter how much she paid them.
"You must secure a man for my daughter or you will not be getting any money." Abigail hissed as she zipped up your dress.
"That is not the terms we agreed on. You are paying me to go to the ball as Rose, not to woo a man. I'll try to do my best but you can't hold back my payment." You bit back. You weren't an idiot, you had made her sign a contract and this bit wasn't in it.
Abigail scowled at you and muttered under her breath. "Little wicked tramp." And stepped back as you were ready.
You rolled your eyes, the comment sliding off of your consciousness like butter as you glanced up to assess your reflection.
And you were awestruck to say the least.
Your makeup was minimal as it would get overshadowed by the dim lights and mask anyways. However, it brought out your features to the fullest, making you look like a princess.
The dress was even more mesmerizing. It was a dusty blue fluffy gown with a heart neckline and white embroidery shattered throughout. It flowed like ichor on your body, making you look ethereal.
Tumblr media
You hummed in admiration and grabbed the same coloured mask from the vanity, you tied it behind your head as Rose came near you.
"You look so beautiful, even with the mask. I think you would have a hard time dodging men." She teased.
You swatted her forearm and whirled around to glare at her. "Don't say stuff like that, Rose. I'm already a nervous wreck inside." You whined. It was true, going or doing something for the first time always felt daunting but this time you felt like an intruder as you didn't belong in that party at all. Thankfully, the anonymity of the mask was a sigh of relief to you.
Rose chuckled and bobbed your nose. "No, I'm serious. You look really pretty-"
She was cut off by a yell from Abigail. "Come on, you'll be late. Do you want people to think that we are late arrivers?"
You sighed deeply as Rose shook her head. "Okay, have fun and stay away from boys. Bye." She said and hugged you.
You hugged her back and said hastily. "Okay, bye." And jogged out of the room and into the car as Abigail's insults played in the background.
👑👠💃
"Miss, we have arrived." The unassuming driver said and pulled open the car door.
The respect was peculiar as you gingerly stepped outside. Your dusty blue pumps stark against the grey pavement. Abigail wanted you to wear heels but you'd be damned if you risked blisters or a twisted ankle on your precious feet.
You smoothed down your dress and started walking forward, your breath catching in your throat upon gazing at the banquet. The venue appeared heavenly, with white gates and staircase like golden glass, leading to the paradise of the elite. It was bustling with people who had enough money to buy your soul. All hidden behind their customized mask and clothes, some were extravagant, some were elegant.
Their expensive scent mingled in the air, creating a tantalizing and mystical aura. It was amplified by the dim lights of the hall, leaving the mind tranquil and intrigued for the suitors behind the veils.
Although the low light made it hard to decipher the interior of the hall. It definitely was of Victorian style as it was opulent and eloquent at the same time.
You looked around like a curious child as you observed and admired the beauty, upper class deemed normal.
You rushed to the food first, eating every of those stupidly expensive yet tasty dishes from all around the world. They were a lot so you ate small portions but your favorite had to be the chocolate fountain where you may or may not have coated your fingers with chocolate and licked them clean. No, classy ladies like you didn't do such things.
You tried to talk to some other girls as well but they were more interested in finding their future husbands. Hence, all your conversations died shortly after some begrudging small talk.
Those also attracted unwanted male attention so you quickly noped out of there and began exploring the venue however it was way bigger than you expected. Though mostly consisting of bedrooms and suites, you had squealed in surprise when you had found a small library tucked away in the lounge. You wanted to read there so badly, but you had come here to mess around not hide in a corner and read Jane Austen like your usual self.
However your enthusiasm had mellowed down as you now stared out the large bay window, in a secluded corner, chewing on fruits and silently observing the party.
"How come there's no fountain in the garden?" You mused to yourself. You had even gone to the garden and found no fountain and now gazing at it again reminded you of that smidge of flaw again.
"Because it's in the balcony." A deep voice said from behind.
You gasped, one hand flying to your racing heart as the other clutched onto the fruit plate for dear life, your body slightly trembling from the unexpected adrenaline surging to your veins.
You whipped your head to look at the perpetrator as he gave you a sheepish and apologetic look. You couldn't clearly make out his face but the golden light coming from the oil lamp above you and the white moonlight casted an unique glow on his porcelain face, his stark blue eyes twinkling in the lights.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. You looked lonely so I thought to give you some company." He said, his black suit and mask made him blend into the surroundings like the devil lurking in the shadows, patiently waiting for an opportunity.
"So, you were stalking me?" You said sharply before you could even comprehend your words. You instantly regretted it as dread filled your stomach. Fuck, he wasn't some random man you could sass around. He was definitely a very powerful man, he dripped from it.
He chuckled, the sound soothing to your ears. "I was not stalking. I was... Observing." He said playfully.
You relaxed at his nonchalance and smirked at him. "So, you were definitely stalking." You teased back.
"Oh, come on. I'm trying to be romantic here. Plus, a little birdie like you, standing alone in a corner while everybody danced? You'd definitely stick out like a sore thumb." He said.
You snapped your gaze back to the main area and sure enough, everyone was twirling on the melody flowing in the air, while you stares out a window like a werido.
"I didn't know people were dancing." You whispered, more to yourself but he heard it.
"Since we are the only loners left, might you enjoy some company?" He suggested with a charming smirk and extended his hand for you, his sapphire blue eyes flickering towards the dance floor.
Rejection must be as clear as day on your face as he retrieved his hand with a pout and walked closer to you. You stepped backwards, your back hitting the window.
"Just one dance with you, pretty please?" He pleaded and gently brought his hand over his heart like it would get wounded by your denial.
It was so coy that it made you chuckle. "Hmmm, I'll dance with you but only on one condition. You'll have to show me the balcony." You offered and he nodded ecstatically.
He stretched out his hand once again and this time you took it. Your skirt twirled as he held your waist and whisked you to the dance floor. No one noticed your presence, too engrossed in their own world. However, you did.
You took notice how in the light of the chandelier, his face was more visible, how sharp his jaw was. You noticed how his muscular arms felt beneath your hands as you clutched onto them. How his body enveloped yours, a cocoon you never wanted to leave.
"You are so beautiful. " He murmured, close to your face. His gaze piercing as his voice sent shivers down your spine.
"But not as Beautiful as you. " You whispered and huffed out a breathy chuckle. You wanted to see him without his mask.
He beamed at you but swiftly grabbed your hand that was gliding behind his head, near his mask string. "Don't do that, darling." He husked out, bringing your hand to his lips, he kissed your palm. Heat rose to your cheeks as you looked away, making him chuckle. He was devilishly charming.
"Your palms are not, soft. Why?" He asked inquisitively. He was observant for sure or had kissed many women's palms.
"I-uh, like to do some manual labour. Some for fun, some for skills." You stuttered out, hoping it wouldn't blow your cover.
"That's nice. But I totally forgot to ask, what's your name?" He asked softly.
"What's your name?" You countered, anxiety brewing inside you.
He shook his head with a chuckle. "What's in the name?" And winked at you.
"Exactly." You gasped when he spun you around, your back hitting his muscular chest.
"So, what are you looking for?" He asked in your ear.
It took you a moment to process his question. "Fun." You replied.
"No, in terms of love. Don't you wanna love someone?"
You didn't like where this conversation was heading as you turned in his arms and wrapped your hands around his neck. 'Don't you?"
"I don't have time for love?" He said honestly.
"It's overrated anyways."
He let out a throaty laugh. "No, it's not overrated," He said and pulled you closer, his earthy scent hypnotizing you. "It's painfully sweet."
"Mhm, you're really poetic." You teased.
"So, you want to see the fountain?" He asked with a smirk.
"Yes, why not?" You instantly replied.
He chuckled and twirled you around, leading to the staircase parallel to the entrance. He led you up and gradually the lighting intensified as as you both left the main floor and entered into a stairway. It was illuminated by enormous chandeliers with wide bronze steps and Victorian style walls. You both stopped ahead of a golden door and he pushed it open.
Suddenly, the glow surrounding you changed as the ceiling was now replaced by the starry sky. You glanced at him as he smiled at you sweetly.
"You wanted to see the fountain and I'm a man of my word, darling." He said, intertwining your hand with his he guided you through the hallway, the balcony coming into your sight as you came to a halt.
You were stunned as you walked deeper into the balcony. The fountain was set in the middle of it, made with white marbles and on top was a skillfully crafted statue of cupid as water sprinkle down from his arrow. The water glinted in the moonlight as you rushed towards it and sat on the edge of the fountain. Looking to your side, the entire garden was in front of your eyes. The balcony was large, but deserted, no one was there beside you and him. You also weren't able to find it when you traversed the venue. It felt like a secret.
You glanced at him as he gazed at you with affection. "How do you know about this? It feels like something only the prince would know." Since it was one of many hotels the prince's family owned for generations.
"Because I'm the prince." He said and your heart stopped. No, that can't be. But to your absolute horror, he removed his mask and yes, it was him as he walked towards you. He sat beside you and covered your hands with his but you were frozen in place. The shock had paralyzed your body, mind and soul.
"I like you, I hosted a masquerade party to let people be themselves behind their mask. And you're the most authentic girl I've met this night. Your shyness didn't feel forced and your boldness wasn't fake. It's like you had no qualms for impressing anyone and that's what I wanted. You're witty, you seem hard working, you're beautiful. I know it's just one interaction but you are everything I was looking for and I promise to put effort into our relationship. So, will you marry me?"
His last words pounded in your ears. No, you couldn't do this. You couldn't trick someone but you couldn't refuse him either. What if he became angry and came after you? What if he came after Rose? You should have never danced with him.
"I-I need to go." You stumbled away from him, your hands trembling over the railing. You needed to get out of there, fast.
"But why?" He asked, bewildered and stood up.
The balcony was big enough that you could rush past him and he wouldn't be able to catch you. Hopefully, his size wouldn't ruin your escape plan. You took a deep breath and braced yourself for a run. "Because my mother told me to come before midnight and I think I'm already late. I should be get going. Thank you for the good time." You blabbered and marched past him and into the hallway.
"No, wait." He shouted and the thumping of his shoes reverberated in the hallway.
You gulped as you ran along the hallway. You breathed a sigh of relief when the golden door emerged ahead of you. You shoved it open and sprinted down the wide and umber colored stairs. The unusually well-lit staircase helped you skid down faster as your dress bellowed behind you.
However, he wasn't far away as his yells for you to stop made you heave in panic and he felt much closer than he actually was.
Thankfully, the lights reduced as you entered the main hall. You quickly darted into the crowd, making him loose you.
"Excuse me."
"please, let me go."
"I'm sorry, can you step aside?"
You said hundreds of times as you weaved through the crowd, checking your surroundings for him once in a while.
Soon, the crowd cleared out as the entrance door appeared in front of you. You dashed out the door and climbed down the golden steps. Your pace had slowed down, assuming you were out of danger when:
"Close the gates." His thunderous command boomed in your ears, making your blood ran cold.
Your eyes widened in fear as the guards began shutting the gates. You regained your ferocity and even pushed your body's limits as you scurried towards the exit, heart in your throat as the gates came inward by each passing second.
You yelped as you slide outside from a small spacing left before the gates fully closed. You stumbled forward as the gates thudded shut behind you just after a moment you got out.
You pulled open the car door and fall inside it. Your body shaking due to adrenaline as the driver wordlessly started the car and you sighed in relief.
However, just before the car sped off, you caught a glimpse of him staring at the recouping car.
He saw the car. He knows the name. He would come for Rose, thinking it was you. The exact thing you didn't want to happen. SHIT.

Part 7: Dance with me
Tumblr media
In all your life, you’ve had your heart broken by three naval aviators.
The first had happened without you even knowing, the consequences only really effecting you till you were older. Nick hadn’t meant to break your heart. If he could, he’s be with you today. Holding you, protecting you from the world and all the heartache, like a dad does.
The second one left you shattered. Bradley’s abandonment had ripped out your heart and shred it to pieces. Losing your brother was like losing a part of you.
The third had simply numbed everything. Pete had been the only father you knew. When he left after Bradley, it hadn’t hurt as much. Everything was just numb and bland afterwards.
Oh God, was Jake going to break your heart to? No, was he going to further shatter what was already being held together with glue? You were already heartbroken long before you’d met him, so if he did hurt you, you could survive it. At least, you think you would.
Your were biting down so hard on your lip that it was close to drawing blood. The strap of your purse seemed to weigh almost as much as your tactical armor. Doubts about Jake started to swarm your head as you walked to the front of the Ruiz family restaurant.
He had been the first thing you saw outside. Leaning against the wall with a small bouquet of flowers, he turned to look at you and his jaw dropped momentarily before a wide, charming smile overtook his face. In response, you smiled and your cheeks started to burn.
He wouldn’t, you conclude. Jake wouldn’t break your heart. Not now, not ever.
“You look stunning,” Jake whispers as he delicately hands you the flowers. Giggling, you take them and thank him before wrapping your arm around his.
“You don’t look to bad yourself, cowboy.”
“I think gorgeous dirty blonde, green-eyed, southern babe is a better way to describe me.” Your face twists in embarrassment as you pinch the bridge of your nose.
“You heard that?”
“Clarke’s a little loud.”
“Imagine working with her.” Jake chuckles at your words and holds the door open for you. The restaurant is lively when you walk in. Many people sit at tables and waiters rush from table to table, writing down orders or handing out plates of delicious food. Jason's the first one to notice you and Jake, and when he does, a wide smile overcomes his face as he comes over.
"Well, well, what do we have here? Brought a date, (y/n)?" he asks, a playful look in his eyes. At the sight of him, you giggle at him and nod. You gesture to Jason as you hold onto Jake's arm.
"This is Jake. Jake, this is Jason. He's Carlos's older brother." Jake's eyebrows raise in amusement as he shakes Jason's hand.
"You ambushing me?"
"No! I just like the food here," you say not looking at Jake. You didn't want him to know that you had brought him here because if anyone was a good judge of character, it's Carlos's family, more specifically his mom and dad.
"Just the food? I'm hurt, soldada." Jason pouts as you roll your eyes. "Just for that comment, I'm putting you two at the worst seat." You gently pull Jake along as you two follow Jason towards your seat. It's a table near close enough to see the dance floor but far enough were the people dancing won't bother you while you eat. The windows are open and a nice breeze fills the restaurant as you thank you Jason. He'd never seat you at the worst table, at least not while you're on a date.
Jason gives you a wink as he walks away and you and Jake sit down. "So, Carlos's family own this place?" Jake asks, his eyes taking in every detail about the restaurant.
"More like his mom and dad. His siblings work here sometimes. His whole family wanted to be close when we got permanently stationed at Pendleton."
"Must be nice. Having family close to home," Jake says, a tad of sorrow poking through. You purse your lips slightly.
"Your family's in Texas, right?" Jake's eyes practically light up at the mention of his family.
"Austin, doll. My mom's the best cook in the goddamn world. She's the best person out there, heart of gold. Then there's my two sisters, Ashley and Savannah. Trouble they are, but I wouldn't change it for anything." Jake goes on about his family and you feel yourself practically melt. A gentle smile overcomes your face as you lay your chin in the palm of your hand.
Jake's stories are cut by Sophie's squeals as rushes to your table. Her bright, brown eyes are wide as she looks at you and then Jake. "When Jason told me you were here on a date, I totally didn't believe it!" She leans down to whisper in your ear. "And, he's super cute!" You chuckle at her comment before introducing her to Jake.
"Jake, Sophie. Sophie, Jake." Jake presses a kiss to her hand and she giggles behind her notepad.
"Did you guys decide what you wanted to eat? You know what! I'll just get you two (y/n)'s regular! Don't worry, you'll totally love it, Jake." Before either one of you could say anything, Sophie rushes off and you both look at each other and laugh.
"Sorry about her. She's very, uh, eccentric." Jake waves off your comment as he watches Sophie serve other customers with a wide smile.
"You've got a lot of good people looking you for you," he says and you let out a breathy chuckle.
"Wouldn't trade them anything."
Jake's face shifts and you can already tell what he wants to say. You look down for a moment before a certain song catches your ear. You spot Maria and Pedro watching you and shake your head.
"Something wrong?" Jake asks, his face worried before you smile at him.
"No, I just love this song." He smirks before standing and offering you a hand. Panicked you try to get him to sit back down.
"Dance with me!"
You laugh and tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, "I don't dance." Jake laughs at your response, his green eyes meeting yours.
"You sing."
"That doesn't mean I dance!" He rolls his eyes at your response.
"Grant me the pleasure of one dance, doll?" He asks again and you groan in fake annoyance as you take his hand.
"Only because you begged me," you say and he winks at you before dragging you to the dance floor. Soft piano plays as Jake gently places your arm around his shoulders and his on your hips.
You laugh as you let Jake lead the two of you. His green eyes fill with joy watch you as you smile up at him. He's glad you can't hear how fast his heart is beating over the music and your laughter. Oh God, your laugh. He could listen to it all day.
Tampoco pienses que soy como aquel que burló tu inocencia Sé que siempre lastimó, no hablemos más del tema Pero algo aquí falló Y para eso estoy yo Para hablarte del amor
Your dress sway as Jake swings you around and a bubbly laugh falls from your lips. You can't help but think of Jake as you listen to words of the song.
Ahora entrégate Si lloro o tiemblo es por ti, amor Es que Dios me mandó para ti Adorarte para toda la vida
Siénteme Soy el hombre que muere contigo, amor Te respeta y nació para ti Niña de mi vida
Jason and Sophie cheer from the side as you wink at them from over Jake shoulder. Jake looks back and gives them a smile before he twirls you. You gasp lightly before you're pulled back into his chest and he laughs at your shocked face.
Other couples join you two on the dance floor and you laugh again as Jake dips you. You grin up at him and run a hand along his jaw as he pulls you up. As the instrumental plays, you let yourself loosen up more and Jake grins as he watches you spin and sway your hips to the music.
Adolescentes
The song comes to an end and restaurant erupts in cheers as Jake holds you close. You're both breathing a little heavy and your eyes watch his flicker down to your lips momentarily. Sophie's voice pulls you out of trance as you both make your way towards you table. Hot plates are waiting for you and Sophie tugs on your arm to whisper into your ear.
"Mama and Papa say if you don't marry him, they'll never cook for you again."
Tumblr media
"No way! You didn't know Pete was your instructor when you threw him out of the Hard Deck?!" you laugh as Jake rubs the back of his neck, his face a little flushed in embarrassment. You struggle to keep your giggles in as he stumbles to answer.
"How was I supposed to?!" You shake your head as you take a deep breath of air. Taking a sip of your drink, you shrug.
"I don't know! How do you not know what one of the best naval aviators to exist looks like?" Jake playfully rolls his eyes at your response.
"One of the best? Doll, I'm the best aviator you'll ever meet." Raising your eyebrows in amusement, you bit your lip to keep your laughter in.
"Is that so, Hangman?" you say, the pronunciation of his callsign much lower and drawn out. Jake smugly nods his head as you shake your head and laugh.
"You never thought about it? Being a pilot?" he asks as a waiter takes both your empty plates away. You shake your head as you lean forward.
"I never really thought about it. After Bradley went to the academy, I just never saw myself following. I didn't know what I wanted to do until I was graduating high school when I heard about the raiders."
"And now, you're one of the best there is."
"Oh, I wouldn't say one of the best. More like, the best," you joke and Jake nearly chokes on his drink as he shakes his head at your words. Always quick with a response, you are. Comfortable conversation flows between you two as Sophie approaches with your bill. You're pulling out your card when Sophie tells you there's no need. Confusion spreads your face as you watch Jake sign the bill.
"I put my card down before you got here," he says and Sophie shoots you a thumbs up. "I was the one who invited you out. Only right that I pay, doll." Jake says as he offers you his hand again. Smiling, you take his hand and bid everyone goodbye before you two are walking hand and hand on the sidewalk.
You're telling Jake about this book you read recently when he excuses himself for a moment. You watch as he lightly jogs up to the man selling ice cream and buys two. He shoots you a grin as he hands you one.
"A strawberry for the pretty girl and a coconut for me."
"Strawberry? How'd you know I like strawberry?" you question as you both sit on the bench facing the sea. Waves crash on the shore and you cross your legs as Jake drapes an arm around the back of the bench.
"I may or may not have asked Jensen," he confesses. You make a mental note to ask Jensen about it later as you eat your icy treat. A peaceful silence falls as you watch the water and Jake watches you.
His heart feels about as if it'll burst and he wishes he could stay here forever, eating ice cream with you and watching the sea. This single moment makes every mission he's flown worth it if it means he'd be here with you now. Bradley's words from earlier replay in his head and he can't be bothered with the repercussions he'll face when he gets back to base, because all he can think about is kissing you right now. How your lips would taste like mix of barbacoa and strawberry and how that should taste awful, but it wouldn't matter because he'd be kissing you.
You turn to him and see he's already watching you and smile. Jake gives you a sense of comfort that's different from the one your family and friends give you. His presence along makes you forget about all the horrible nights you spent in that cold, disgusting cell and the torture you suffered. You wanna kiss him so bad.
It isn't a surprise when your lips meet his and his hand is cradling the side of your face. A soft warmth spreads in both your chest and Jake's and everything feels perfect. Everything is perfect. Well, except for both your fallen ice creams, that are now creating a puddle on the pavement below you.

*Nick’s POV*
Y/N and I were at her pace alone. I was staying the night since we were dating for a year now. My mom was happy that I was with someone that wasn’t into drugs. We were on her couch and cuddling. We were watching a movie and the guy was currently fucking his girlfrend who was dead asleep. My eyes widened and I glanced at Y/N who looked almost excited about the scene. I watched for a few more moments and glanced back at her. She was rubbing her thighs together and I looked at her shocked.
“I-Is this turning you on?” I asked and she jumped slightly. She blushed and looked up at me.
“Uh… N-No…” She stuttered, blushing deeper.
“Babe, are you into the idea of someone fucking you while you sleep?” I asked and she turned away from me.
“What? No! That’s crazy!” She laughed, unconvicingly.
“Hey, there’s no reason to be embarrassed.” I said and pulled her into my lap.
“Are you into this?” I asked. She shyly nodded and looked up at me through her lashes.
“So… if you were ever dead asleep, I could play with you? You give me permission?” I asked and she nodded.
“Yes I give you permission.” She smiled and I smiled.
“Do you wanna try tonight?” I asked and her eyes widened slightly, but she nodded. She quickly got up and ran to her room. I looked at her confused, but she came back quickly with two melatonin tabs.
“Aren’t you supposed to just take one?” I asked and she nodded.
“Yeah, but I wanna make sure I’m asleep.” She answered.
“Y/N, I don’t want you to get hurt.” I said worriedly.
“Nicky, I’ll be fine. Trust me.” She said and downed the two tabs. We continued watching the movie, but I couldn’t focus. I was so hard thinking about fucking my girlfriend while she was sleeping. I never even thought about something like this before, but I was into it.
Y/N’s head lulled onto my shoulder after maybe ten minutes. Her eyes slowly closed and I took a deep breath. I lifted her up after I turned off the movie, and took her to her room. I laid her on the bed, she was completely dead weight. I took off her shirt and looked at her full breasts and hardening nipples. I touched her breast and felt myself hardening more. I caught her nipple between my two fingers and stoked my cock. I was very horny. She was uncoscious and oblivious to the world around her. I was suddenly aware that I could do anything. She was in my power. I pulled her shorts off along with her underwear. I reached over to her drawer and pulled out the lube. I squirted a little on the end of my dick. The thought of what I was about to do ecited me more than I thought it would. I spread her legs and ran my hand up her smooth thighs. I brushed against her pussy and she didn’t even move. I slipped one lubricated finger into her and pushed up to find her g-spot. I rubbed the area slightly and she started moving against me. I thought she was waking up, but she wasn’t. She moaned a little and seemed to be dreaming. I could feel that she was getting aroused. I knelt between her legs and brought it to the point where my tip was nudging into her, easily slipping inside. We’ve done this before, but it felt new and exciting. I was taking my time, watching her sleep and be unaware that I was inside her. I was sliding rhythmically in and out of her. At first I was putting most of my weight on my arms above her head, but gradually my weight shifted and I was laying on top of her. She moved under me, but still not waking up. It was almost like she was dreaming of being fucked. I pulled out of her and turned her over. I pulled her hips ip so that she was sort of on her knees. I had to support her and it wasn’t easy, she kept falling to one side. I knelt behind her and pushed my cock into her again. That’s when I had an idea. I grabbed the lube and squirted a good amount onto her puckered up asshole. I pulled my cock from her and put it against her ass. I pushed inside her and her ass stretched to acomidate my size. She started moaning a little in her sleep so I stopped. I pushed a little more, but the tight feeling was too much and I came hard. I pumped into her before pulling out. I settled her in a more comfortable position on her side for sleeping and got off the bed to go wash up. I threw some cold water on my face and just sat in the bathroom thinning about what I just did. I quickly got a wash cloth and did my best to clean Y/N up, then laid down next to her. I pulled her close to me and kissed her head.
“God I love you.” I murmured and fell asleep alongside her.

Certainty
If there was something y/n had always known, was the fact that Nicholas Clark was one of the most important person of her life. With the outbreak of the zombies epidemic she had lost her mother and Nick officially became her whole world. He was a certainty.
Getting used to the fact that her mother was gone was the worst part, but having the chance to live with the Clarks and being treated as part of their family was a blessing. She had been Nick's best friend since they were kids and Madison ended up considering her as a daughter too.
There was nothing y/n and Nick had not shared while growing up together, so when Alicia told y/n that Nick needed her, she immediately ran to him.
Y/n knocked at his door and he didn't answer, so she sighed. "Nick, it's me." She whispered from the other side of the door. It took Nick just a second to stand up, he walked to the door and slowly opened it. Y/n widened her eyes: Nick's eyes were watery and his cheek was purple. She immediately stepped inside and closed the door at her back. "Let me look at you." She commanded while raising his face and staring at it, he shook his head. "I'm okay, y/n." He lied and looked away.
Y/n tilted her head. "Who did this?" She asked and he sighed, his hand massaging his forehead. "My mum." He answered. Y/n widened her eyes, a gasp escaping her lips. "Madison?! But why..." She asked, her voice a whisper.
Nick bit his lower lip and shook his head. "It doesn't matter." He said and took her hand in his, a gesture that was pretty familiar to y/n: he used to do it when he needed comfort. Nick was in love with her and he had been for years, he just never managed to summon up enough courage to tell her; then he became an addict and he started to think that she deserved so much better by her side.
Y/n looked at him. "It matters to me." She insisted and caressed his hand, he nervously chuckled. "If I tell you, you're going to think that I'm a disaster." He joked and she shook her head. "Nick, I've never judged you." She reminded him, at it was true. Even though she had suffered immensely for his addiction, she never even once made him feel like a failure. He looked at her in shame, his eyes filled with regret. "I was stealing morphine from one of Liza's patients, Hector. She slapped me. He is dying and I was stealing his morphine, how noble, uhm?" He nervously joked but y/n knew him: he was deeply sorry. She squeezed his hand with hers and put the other under his chin to raise his head. "Hey, look at me," she said and he finally looked at her. "You're suffering, you just wanted some relief. Was it a good thing to do? No. Does this make you a bad person? Also no." She said and he shook his head, a frustrated chuckle escaping his lips. "How do you do this?" He asked. She frowned. "Do what?" She said and he shrugged. "Always seeing the best in me." He concluded. For a moment, y/n didn't know what to say. She did not have an answer, then she realized: in that moment, standing right there in front of him, after years of emotional confusion, she finally knew it.
"Because I love you, Nick Clark." She whispered, her voice shaking and her eyes stuck into his. Nick froze, his body in tension and his hand stop caressing hers. He looked at her in total shock, his lips parted. Y/n widened her eyes, realising what she had done, and she shook her head in panic. "I mean, I... Oh my... I just--" she tried to say but he interrupted her. "You love me?" He asked, finally saying something.
Tumblr media
Y/n hesitated and thought that she could have lied and could have told him that she meant in a friendly way or something like that, but there was no point anymore in pretending. She took a deep breath. "This is a weird world, Nick, and maybe there is no time for love, but I love you. I could die tomorrow, I could turn into a zombie, as my mother did..." She paused, tears pinching her eyes. "I could lose you and lose my mind and I don't want to think about this moment in the future and regret the fact that I haven't been honest. I do, I love you, and even if you see me as your best friend, I--" he stepped closer to her. "I love you too, I've loved you since we were kids." He spit it out, all at once, without even taking a breath.
It was her time to freeze in shock. She looked at him while opening her mouth. "W-why haven't you told me?" She asked, her arms automatically crossing over his shoulders. He looked at her, eyes filled with tears. "Because I'm a mess and you deserve the world. I'm an addict, I'm egoistic, I'm impulsive, I'm carelessness, I'm--" he tried to say but she put a finger on his lips. "Nick, you are my best friend and I know you since forever. I know your heart, I know you're kind, thoughtful, protective, sensitive." She said, her lips closer to his. He put his hands on her waist and stared at her, he looked torn. "What about the fact that we could die, turn into zombies, lose our minds?" He asked and she shook her head, her fingers tracing his cheekbone. "I want you." She said and he slightly smiled, his hands pulling her closer. "What about the fact that there is no time for love in this world?" He asked, his lips barely touching hers while his eyes kept travelling from her eyes to her lips and vice versa. She held her breath and looked at him. "Fuck everything, I just want to be with you!" She finally said and he crushed his lips on hers.
She gasped at the contact, it was totally new for her. Y/n was kissing her lifetime best friend and it couldn't be better: she parted her lips to let his tongue in while he squeezed her hips, his fingers digging into the fabric of her shirt. She ran her fingers through his long hair and smiled on his lips, her body attached to his and their heartbeats one against the other. He took a breath. "You can't imagine how long I've been waiting for this, how many times I had to force myself not to kiss you. I've been watching you growing up next to me, I've shared so much with you, I've been dating girls to try not to think about you and I've been tearing myself apart every time you dated someone. I've hated myself for letting you down when you found out about my addiction and every time I went to rehab, it was just because I had you. All of this for this moment and I would do it again for you, because I love you." He whispered out of breath, she smiled while sweetly caressing his cheek, careful on his bruise. "Never again. I'm yours, Nick, I've always been." She reassured him, her voice soft. He smiled as if he had just realized and kissed her again.

NICK CLARK — stupid hair tie
fluff
summary: just a short nick drabble :)
era: the ranch
author note: i miss nick sm so i’m happy to write for him and alicia too. also the ending is so bad i’m sorry
warnings !! swearing, thats all.
Tumblr media
“Nick!” You gasped in between laughs, “Stop with the fucking hair tie!”
You couldn’t stop laughing, making Nick in turn, laugh too. The boy had attacked you midway through braiding your hair, smothering you with gentle kisses and stealing your hair tie.
Now, the pain inflicted on you was minimal, but ticklish as he flicked the hair tie on your arm and it bouncing straight back to where he could catch it again.
Luckily for you, the next time he tried to flick it, it missed you completely, landing just behind you. You got it before Nick could, and flicked it right back at him so it bounced back to you.
“Ouch! That hurt!” He pouted, feigning the dramatics. You laughed at the cute pout on his face, and he took the opportunity to tackle you back onto the bed you were sitting on.
You couldn’t help but yelp, but the landing was soft and the weight above you was already so natural to you, this happening many times before.
“Well that was unnecessary.” You spoke softly, looking into his beautiful brown eyes.
“No, I just want a kiss.” You could feel his warm breath against your face, and lifted your head to attempt to catch his lips with your own.
It worked, and within seconds the two of you were deep in a passionate kiss.
“Nick, I’m coming in!” His mothers voice rang out through the house, as a faint door opening could be heard from the main room.
The two of you scrambled off of each other, completely aware of the fact that Madison did not yet know of you two dating. A minute later, Madison came into the bedroom, seeing the two of you sat on the bed together.
“Oh, Y/N, I didn’t know you were here!” She spoke with a surprised smile on her face, and curiosity lacing her voice.
“Hi Madison.” You spoke rather shyly, before Nick spoke up, “Mom whats up?”
Madison tilted her head, and sighed, “I came to check on you, you were meant to be meeting me 20 minutes ago!”
“Ah shit I forgot…Sorry Mom I’ll be out in a second.”
Madison left then, after giving Nick a quick wink and offering you an innocent smile. The older women now wanting to find out what was happening between you and her son.

Chapter 16.
Summary: Soulmates find each other through what is known as The Pull. A sense within a persons body that their soulmate is within reach that guides them to find them. You find yourself following this Pull, guided by vague dreams of a man you can't quite see, until you collapse in the wild and are found by Troy, your soulmate, who has been following the same feeling toward you for days.
Once connected soulmates are able to share emotions through their bond, as well as being able to sense where the other is. But how this force works is very much a mystery still, it can vary from soulmate to soulmate, and just sometimes a connection too deep can lead twist a bond from something beautiful to, well...
Warnings: Dark themes, sexual content, violence, non-graphic description/implications of SA, child abuse and domestic violence. References to addiction. Unhealthy love/obsession/relationships. Soulmate AU. Eventual smut. Love triangle/polyamory… eventually.
Tumblr media
You had paced the bunkhouse for so long that you were surprised you hadn't worn down the wood. Your nails were bitten down on one hand as you pondered over Jake’s revelation that it was not typical for soulmates to share emotions.
What were you supposed to do with this information? More importantly, did Troy already know?
Or was Jake mistaken? Perhaps that was just his own experience but the only way to find out would be to ask more people. And that could arouse suspicion…
You try and take your mind off things by tidying up the bunkhouse, and you’re in the middle of sweeping the dust out the front door when a sudden feeling hits you directly in the chest. It hits you hard enough to make you stagger on your feet for a few seconds.
You pause as panic overcomes you. You reach for your bond, for the pull… you find it empty.
“No!”
You're already out the door and running across the ranch when you see the trucks approaching in the distance. They're driving much faster than they usually would, which could only mean something was very, very wrong.
“Radio for Jake!”
You shout at the guard at the gate. He frowns at you but doesn't hesitate, also seeing the urgency in the way the trucks are driving along the road kicking up dust that floats into the air like smoke. Your eyes scan each of the drivers, looking for Troy as they pull into the gateway but he isn't behind any of the wheels.
Your eyes lock with Cooper as he jumps from the truck. Something is already behind hauled from the back and your heart drops when you see it’s Troy. Limp and pale with blood coating his face and neck.
“Is he bit?”
Are your first words as you chase after them rushing toward the medical tent. You see Cooper shake his head and you sigh with relief.
Jake is there and you don't even remember how or when he arrived. Getting Troy on the bed was a blur. Cooper pulling you out of the way as Jake checks him over was like a dream once Jake goes quiet and intently stares at Troy’s eyes as he flashes a small light in each one.
Your stomach churns. You know enough to realise what Jake is checking for, the responses he needs to know that the blood coating Troy’s head would not prevent him from waking up.
“… too slow…”
Jake mutters.
Your heart stops.
“But he’s responding, right?”
You say shakily. Jake nods but he doesn't look any happier about this than he did before the test.
You can't watch when Jake starts to examine the wound. You feel sick at the sight. You let Cooper lead you outside as he says something about getting air. You're in a daze and all you can do is keep tugging at the bond between you, urging Troy to tug back.
“What the hell happened?”
You say eventually, shaking as you look to Cooper for an explanation.
Cooper doesn't owe you anything, but he gives you a quick summary of events. They came across survivors. They were hostile. They engaged and Troy was injured by one of them who struck him from behind.
You shake your head slowly.
“And the survivors?”
“Took some out. Some escaped.”
Cooper says bluntly.
You clench your fists and your jaw sets when you speak again.
“And the one who hurt Troy?”
Cooper looks away, actually looking a little ashamed.
“… escaped.”
You feel rage. How? Why?
Before you could ask for more information you hear Jeremiah calling for Cooper. You keep your back turned. You don't have the patience for Troy’s father today.
Jeremiah demands an explanation as he leads Cooper back into the tent. You're left alone outside it and your knees buckle. You hit the grass hard and your fingers dig into the dirt.
This can't be it. Troy’s presence in her heart was like a gaping hole. Just empty and filled with cold, yearning darkness. You reach for him again but the lack of connection steals your breath away. That was when Cooper and Jeremiah burst from the tent and start running back toward the gate.
Without a second thought you follow, and neither man seems to care or notice. You can see the militia gathering at the outer edge of the ranch, taking up defensive positions you'd seen Troy scribbling notes about in his book.
You’re at Cooper’s side when you hear the words you already knew.
“They followed us.”
Jeremiah is shouting curses and yelling instructions. You see Mike limping toward the gate. He hadn’t been out with the others, but duty calls. He sees you and frowns.
“Get in the house.”
You scowl at him.
“Don’t tell me what to-”
Mike cuts you off.
“Troy would want you safe. Get in the house!”
You’re about to argue again when Jeremiah pipes up.
“You’ll do as you’re told. We don’t need civilians out here making things more complicated. So unless you’re gonna pick up a weapon missy, get outta the line o’ fire.”
You clench your fists and look to Cooper for support. Unfortunately he just shrugs and looks away with an apologetic look in his eyes.
“Fine!”
You huff. You run back to the main house, the closest shelter to the gate, and take the steps two at a time to Troy’s bedroom. You burst through the door and toward the window where you know you’ll be able to see everything.
Your fingers grip the window frame. You see a car approaching with a pole and a white rag handing from it. You feel a burst of anger.
So these people almost kill Troy and they dare approach his home seeking peace? You can see Jeremiah and Cooper taking the lead, stepping out to meet the vehicle whilst the militia keep their weapons pointed at the people inside.
You squint as you see someone step out, their hands are raised and you can make out a woman with shoulder length blonde hair. You can’t hear what’s being said, but Jeremiah is actually listening… and that makes you furious.
Your eyes are drawn to the opposite side of the car. Another set of raised hands, another figure emerging…
A man. Or a boy, he looks young. Messy hair down to his shoulders and even from here you can see the scowl on his features. Your heart beats hard.
Do something.
It tells you.
These people hurt Troy.
Do something!
Your fingers lose their grip on the window frame and your feet are carrying you back down the steps and outside faster than you can think. Your breathing is hard and your heart pounds. Your feet land on dirt and you run toward the gate.
You’re almost there, you can hear the woman’s voice but you can’t hear her words. But Jeremiah seems to be listening, and that infuriates you.
Do something!
Your heart screams again.
You’re almost at them when your glare switches from the woman to the boy. He is the first to see you, his narrowed eyes slide from the woman to you and they widen with surprise, with recognition. With shock.
It’s like someone has reached into your chest and torn your heart in two. You stop running and it takes all of your strength not to fall to your knees in the dirt.
The boy’s mouth opens. He goes to say something, his hand comes up as if reaching for you but you’re shaking your head and backing away with a hand pressed over your chest.
This… couldn’t be right. Be real. This feeling…
This sudden intense need to close the gap between you both and…
Jeremiah spots you and you hear him shout, but you’re already turning on your heel to flee. Because it couldn’t be right. This feeling in your chest… this… Pull.
Your feet carry you back to the medical tent where you burst through, frightening Jake who is sitting beside Troy, his head in his hands.
“He’s not…?”
You choke out as Jake meets your eyes.
“He woke. Briefly.”
Your legs almost collapse again.
Jake has a small, half-smile on his face. It’s still tinged with sadness and worry, but he doesn’t look like a man about to lose his brother.
“He said your name and lost consciousness again. But I think he’ll be okay, eventually.”
You let out a strangled sob of relief and your legs finally give way. Jake is with you immediately, pulling you up, setting you on the bed beside Troy.
“You’re still not fully recovered. The shock… you need to rest…” Jake is muttering.
You just nod and let him lay you down. You turn your head toward your soulmate and you reach out with your heart. A sense of warmth and happiness spreads through you when you finally find him, he’s there, as if at a distance even though you could reach out and touch him physically. But he is still in your heart.
But then you feel something else. A pulsing throb in your chest that makes you want to get off the bed and run back to the gate to give it some relief, to ease the pressure as it wills you to get off the bed and move.
Jake mistakes your sudden change in pallor and gently rubs your arm, uttering reassuring words that everything will be okay. But he doesn’t know. How could he? Nothing will ever be okay again… not when your heart is suddenly torn in half between two soulmates.

What about 13 with Nick? 🥺
ooooh i had so much fun with this one!! thank you for sending my love 🥺💛
#13: You and your soulmate have matching tattoos that become clear once you meet.
You’ve been in politics for a few years now, but New York is foreign territory for you.
Even though Yonkers isn’t the big city, it’s the second biggest. And it’s entirely nerve wracking to start such an important new job in a city where no one knows you.
There’s the usual push back against a female district attorney in the late 80’s, but for the most part everyone is nice and helpful to you.
You make instant friends with Vinni, who makes it her personal mission to check the little ink blot on the side of your neck everyday.
“Not yet,” she sighs wistfully.
Even though she’s married and has a few kids, her own tattoo hasn’t clarified. You suppose she lives vicariously through you.
“Maybe not ever,” you chuckle—not entirely sad. You’ve made your peace with the fact that some people never find their soulmate; that they have to find their own happiness. If that has to be you, you’re not going to fight it. Fate is a fickle mistress.
“Oh, have you met Nick yet?”
“Nick?”
“Councilman Wasicsko,” Vinni clarifies with a smile. “Young guy, only a couple years older than you. He’s pretty handsome.”
“Considering the fact that all of the councilmen I’ve met have been my dad’s age, I’ll say no,” you giggle.
“His tattoo hasn’t clarified yet, either.” There’s a suggestive hint in her tone, but you merely scoff. What are the odds that your soulmate would work in the very building you do? “And he’s coming this way right now.”
You want to roll your eyes at how excited she gets, but you bite your tongue when you see him. He’s incredibly handsome. Soft features and sharp jaw and he’s so gorgeous with a mustache that looks horrid on everyone else that it makes you want to cry.
“Nicky!” Vinni grins, jumping to her feet so she can pull him over to you. “Let me introduce you to our new district attorney.”
A blush paints Nick’s cheeks as he extends his hand towards you to shake.
“H-hi,” he grins. “Nick. Wasicsko. Councilman.”
You giggle and give your name in return, and Nick’s smile only widens.
Vinni stares expectantly at you, and then her jaw drops as she breathes your name.
“You... your tattoo...”
Your stomach twists violently, and for a moment it doesn’t feel real. There’s no way it’s clarified. There’s no way that this moment is happening as simply as it is.
But you know it is. When Nick walked over, the small spot of ink at the base of his neck was still a shapeless blob. Now it’s clarified, twisted and cleaned itself into the form of a small eagle.
And even though this is the most unceremonious moment, you don’t think it could be any more perfect.
“Hi, soulmate,” he gasps—his face burns from his wide his smile is.
“Hi,” you grin back.
And even though you’ve only just met, you feel complete for the first time.

No One Like You - Nick Clark
Tumblr media
Requested by @heyitsreece44
Pairing: Nick Clark x Reader
Summary: After almost losing her best friend to a drug overdose, Y/n finally reveals her feelings for Nick.
Warnings: Fluff, friends to lovers, mention of drug use, slight angst if you squint
MASTERLIST -- REQUESTING INFO
Tumblr media
The hospital hallway was like something out of Star Trek. Everything that could shine, did shine. The floor was made from sleek stainless steel and the art on the walls were paintings of all-natural images in colours as bright as glacier melt-water or spring flowers. The air had a pure fragrance, not sterile, just clean. Music played in the background, at just the right level to give the patients and staff an emotional lift.
Your knee bounced in anticipation as you sat in the waiting room outside Nick's ward. Your mouth stung from the countless times you had gnawed down on your lower lip, almost drawing blood. You didn't know how long you had waited, it could have been five minutes or five hours, all you knew was that your best friend had almost died from an overdose and was in critical condition in the room next to you.
It was around eight o'clock when you got the news. You were preparing for a busy night serving at a popular local restaurant when the phone rang. It took you a while to calm down Alicia who was in a mess over the line before you got a straight answer from her. Dropping everything at your feet, you rushed straight to the hospital and just prayed that Nick would pull through.
The road to the Hospital was a familiar one - you had travelled it many times, during the day and late at night. It wasn't the first time Nick had overdosed, he had survived at least three times, but you knew it was only a matter of time before his luck ran out. If you were honest, you didn't know what you would do if Nick died. You had been best friends through thick and thin and always seemed to get each other out of every bad situation you both would inevitably wind up in.
And through it all, you began to develop feelings for your best friend, though you had vowed to never tell him because you were sure he would not reciprocate those feelings. You convinced yourself that he thought of you as just a friend and nothing else. Before you fall deeper into the rabbit hole of your thoughts, a door squeaked open and a nurse, followed by a blonde woman stepped out into the hall. You quickly stood up and made your way over to Madison and the nurse lady.
"How is he?" You asked, skipping the formalities.
"He's a little shaken but he is stable." The nurse said as she scribbled something on her clipboard. A sigh of relief escaped your lips and you turned to Madison.
"Can I go in?" You asked (even though you were pretty sure that if she said no, you would find a way to barge in any way).
"Yes, of course, you were the first person he asked for when he woke up." Madison gave you a wink before nodding her head to the vending machine. "I'm going to grab a snack, so you go ahead in. Just don't get up to any mischief."
You wasted no time and swung the door to Nick’s ward open, revealing a familiar room room that was dimly lit by the gentle glow of a lamp on his bedside table. By the window lay Nick, who looked pale and tired and was hooked up to multiple machines.
“What took ya’ so long?” Nick grinned, looking up from the book that laid on his lap.
“Oh be quiet, or I’ll unplug your...whatever the hell that is.” You huffed and pointed to the beeping machine that conected to Nick’s arm through an IV.
“That would probably put me in a coma.” Nick smirked, waving his arm at the stool beside his bed. “Take a seat.”
“So,” You said, perched on the wobbly stool. “How are you feeling.”
“Better now you’re here.” Nick flashed you a bright smile which you did not return. You could read Nick like an open book, no matter who he managed to fool with his humour and charm, you could always see right through it. You could tell he was hurting inside, and his witty bravado was all an act.
“I’m being serious, Nick.”
“So am I!”
“Nick.” You fought off the smile that was creeping onto your face and folded your arms. “You don’t have to pretend around me. You can tell me what’s going on.”
“There really isn’t anything I can say.” This time Nick’s smile faltered and his eyes flicked down to his hands that lay fidgeting in his lap.
“Did you OD on... purpose?” Your voice wavered a little. It would kill you inside if that was true and he tried to take his own life.
“No,” Nick grabbed one of your hands. “It was nothing like that - it was an accident. I don’t want to die. Besides, who would I hang about with in the afterlife? My chess-obsessed grandpa?”
A faint smile graced your lips as you looked down at your hand in his. It was a habit Nick had formed a few years back - whenever you were upset he would hold your hand in his as a form of comfort.
"There it is, the smile I love to see!" Nick laughed, giving your hand a squeeze.
"Shut up, you idiot." You tried go fight off the heat that rose to your cheeks. "I don't know what I would do if you were gone."
"You'd find someone else." Nick trailed his thumb over your knuckles. "There are plenty of low life crack-heads out there."
"Don't talk about yourself like that." You scolded. Lowering your gaze, you mumbled. "There is no one else like you."
You expected a sarcastic reply in return, but you were greeted by silence. You pulled your gaze back up to meet brown his eyes, and found that he was staring at you with an unreadable expression.
"Do you mean that?"
"Yes," You started to worry if you said the wrong thing or somehow offended him. "What I meant was that you-"
Before you could finish your sentence, a pair of warm lips pressed against yours. Breath caught in your throat and your eyes widened as you processed what was happening. Nick was kissing you. Nick Clark, your best friend, was actually kissing you.
Your eyes fluttered shut and you began to reciprocate the kiss, moving your lips gently against his. Just when Nick wrapped his hand around your neck to pull you closer, the door swung open and you jumped back as if Nick had burned you.
"I got you two some coffee - oh."
Your head whipped around to see Madison standing in the doorway, clutching two cups of coffee with a smirk etched onto her face.
"I'll just leave this here," Madison said, placing the coffee on the table. "I'll be out in the waiting room if you need me." She quickly cast you a wink before shutting the door.
"Well that was awkward." You turned back to face Nick with burning cheeks. But he seemed unabashed and was grinning from ear to ear.
"There is no one like you either, Y/n'

A/N: Never written for Pope before, so I thought I'd go ahead and give a shot. He is by far one of my favorite characters on Outer Banks. Requests are still open, so feel free to leave a request!
Summary: Working at a Kook infested restaurant is not always something to look forward to, but it pays well so that's a plus. All of the Kooks seem to get on your nerves during one shift. After getting home from work, Pope makes a visit before leaving to hangout with others.
Notes:
Y/N/N: Your Nick-Name
Y/E/C: Your Eye Color
The Pier -> place you work
Your parents own a mechanic shop

Pope Heyward x-reader
"Excuse me, miss! Excuse me!" a woman called after me, keeping an arm raised. Today had been one of the worst shifts I have ever had: some kid spilled his drink on my shoes, I almost burned my hand, and a couple cursed me out over something stupid. Usually, I could bare snotty and rude customers; but today just was an off day. '
"Miss! Hey, excuse me!" the customer repeated.
I apologized the family of three I was currently serving. The nice man reassured me, motioning for me to answer the nagging women's question. The Kook sat at the table wearing a bright pink dress with white high heels, a pearl necklace around her neck matched with pearl earrings.
Her husband sat beside her sporting a yellow polo and green khaki pants. "What can I-" I started. "I ordered a Virgin Bloody Mary, but I can't taste any of the alcohol. I thought I ordered a Virgin Bloody Mary not a Bloody Mary," she interrupted, pushing the drink my way.
Her husband didn't even bother to join in. I withheld a sarcastic remark. "Ma'am, you did order a Virgin Bloody Mary which doesn't have any alcohol in it whereas a regular Bloody Mary does have alcohol," I corrected, "If you would like a Bloody Mary, I can go get that for you."
The women shook her head in disagreement. She huffed in annoyance, pushing her hair away from her face. "No, I want a Virgin Bloody Mary, not what you said," she repeated. "Okay, so you want the one that doesn't have alcohol in it?" I questioned, starting to loose my patience.
She glanced at her husband and rolled her eyes, commenting about how I'm underclass and don't know shit. "Sweetheart, how many times do I need to tell you for it to go through that foggy brain of yours?" she retorted, "I. want. a. Virgin. Bloody. Marry. with. alcohol." The 'Karen' said her last statement slowly, as if I couldn't understand English.
"Ma'am, a Virgin Bloody Mary doesn't have alcohol but a Bloody Mary does. That's the difference, the one you are asking for is a Bloody Mary."
"Oh, honey," she chuckled, "I don't think you understand."
"I understand perfectly, I'm just trying to get you the drink that you desire," I said, "If you would just hear me you, I bet we can come to an understanding." My manager happened to hear the whole conversation. He walked over and set a hand on my shoulder. "What seems to the problem?" Daniel questioned the couple.
"My wife ordered a Virgin Bloody Mary, and she would like a Virgin Bloody Mary with alcohol; but this-this ignorant and brainless Pogue doesn't seem to know what she was talking about," the husband said, "Sir, Daniel I presume, I expect you hire Pogues who are intelligent, not disrespectful and unorganized."
He spoke with venom with his eyes focused on my boss. Daniel nodded his head. "I am deeply sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Clarke. I will get that Virgin Bloody Mary straight away," he said. "Thank you, Daniel, and you better set high expectations for your serves. Don't want this place infested with Pogues," the women said.
Daniel motioned me to the back of the restaurant before ordering another server to give the snobby couple their 'correct' drinks. My boss led me over to his office. "Y/N, why don't you clock out early?" he offered.
"I've got two more hours left of my shift," I said, "You know how much I need this money." My boss shook his head and sat down at his desk, pulling out a sheet of paper. "I suggest you find another job that can meet your needs. Preferably one that doesn't require you to boss around customers," Daniel said, handing the sheet of paper.
I grabbed the sheet of paper from him, making my way towards my cubby. I stuffed my apron into the cubby and slipped my arms through my backpack. Was I seriously just fired over something that was easily fixed if the shitty woman just understood? I unlocked my car and drove home in silence, not bothering to even put my seatbelt on.
Luckily, I got home before my parents did. I put my car into park and hopped out, locking the door behind me. Fortunately, I was hanging out with my friends later which meant I could just relax until then. I wasn't prepared to tell my parents about losing my job. I already knew that they'd take out their stress from work on me.
I changed into my favorite one piece and a pair of blue jean shorts before walking down to the dock. I set my phone beside me, leaning up against one of the wooden pillars with my Y/E/C eyes watching the white clouds fly by with the golden sun being covered every once and awhile.
My sky gazing was interrupted by the sound of tires brushing against the pebbled driveway of my house. I looked up to find Pope leaning his red and blue bike against a thick oak tree that was across the side of my house. He turned to look at me and smiled. "There's my favorite Y/E/C eyed girl," Pope greeted, sitting down beside me. I smiled as he lightly kissed me on the forehead.
"How was work?" he questioned, slipping his sandals off to dip his feet in the cold water. I scoffed and shook my head. I sat beside my boyfriend with my fingers fiddling with a loose thread from my shorts. "That bad, huh?" he said. I swallowed the lump in my throat, nodding my head in response.
Pope looked away from my reflection in the water to see a slight tear slide down the side of my face. My boyfriend reached over and wiped the tear away. "I got fired from my job today," I informed, "All because of a fucking Kook didn't know the difference between a Virgin Bloody Mary and a regular Bloody Mary."
Pope's brows raised at the sound of my statement. He fixed the strap of my swimsuit that had somehow fallen. "Your boss really fired you because of that?" he inquired.
"Well, that was just the cherry on top. Earlier, I had a kid spill his red punch on my sneakers. Then, almost burned my hand from a chicken pot pie. Oh, and got cussed out by an old couple who didn't appreciate the way my parents fixed their son's car," I added, "So, my reaction to the Bloody Mary fiasco ended it all. Daniel didn't like my attitude, so he told me, to find another job, and I quote, 'Preferably one that doesn't require you to boss around customers'."
"He's an idiot," Pope commented, looking out at the water (GIF Above). I nodded in agreement and wiped my tears away with the back of my hand. Pope draped an arm around my shoulders, bringing me to his side. He kissed the top of my head. "Wanna stay in tonight? I heard there's a pretty cool documentary about dolphins tonight," Pope offered.
I smiled and looked up at him, my spirits immediately lifting. My wonderful boyfriend looked down at me to see my expression suddenly change. "I would love that," I agreed with a large joyous grin. "Great, because you wouldn't have a choice whatever you said," Pope replied. He got up from the dock and extended a hand, motioning me to the house.

Greg Sanders x Reader!
Tumblr media
A/N: Hi everyone! Have you ever noticed that there are not enough Greg Sanders fanfiction in the world? I have looked for some for a while, but nothing. Now, stop complaining and let's have fun togheter, this is my first Greg Sanders x Reader! I hope you will like it! Besos!
 Couple: Greg Sanders/Female!Reader
Category: Fluff
Content Warning: //
Summary:  this is the first time Greg tries to find love with an app. Who knows whohe  is gonna meet with a cyber matching?
  ***
Las Vegas, October 5th 2015
The last month was rough for him. Many things had changed forever. Nick had resigned from the team, Sarah decided to take a break after a big promotion in order to restore her relationship with Grissom, Catherine is back to her position as the leader of the night shift.
Russell is moving on with his life and Finn is gone. Forever. No matter how much his tried to save her life or they prayed for her, she is gone.
Greg is not confortable with big changes. For the first time in forever he is feeling like he is flooting. Dr Robbins said that is normal, in a moment like this one, in which he has escaped the death again, to feel this way.
«Maybe you need a fresh new start.»
Everyone is starting something, whatever. Nick is a boss now, Sarah is happy with her ex husband and former director of the lab. Even Hodges is living the moment, with a new girlfriend.
«He met her on a website», Henry said to Greg during a coffee break.
He laughted, then he used this information against Hodges.
«It isnt a website... I am not dating a russian wife!»
Greg smirked, «No more girls interested in your Visa after the italian one?»
«Shut the fuck up, Sanders. Nowdays is normal using dating app. You should try and stop wasting my time!»
****
He didnt download Tinder only because Hodges suggested it.
Of course.
He decided to try the app only to dimostrate that is a poor life choice.
But the amounth of time he have spent in looking at girls profiles is already too much to look credible. Furthermore, Lindsay have noticed him swapping girls away and she giggled amused. «You should try to go on a date. Dont tell my mom, but I met a guy once, on Tinder. He was really awsome, but he was a tourist. An advice, always take a loool if she is a resident!»
And he followed her suggestion, making the opposite. Just to have some fun.
There are many people who only are in Vegas for having fun and even if was cool, meeting girls who only want a one night stand, after three or four date started to make him feel bored.
He always talk a little about is job, fake interesting in the girl’s plan for her vacation and everything ending in the morning.
So he decided to try something else.
A serious date, for once.
***
He is exploring your profile since the moment you two matched. He is fascinating by your (y/e/c) eyes in the profile picture. You look smart but gentle at the same time. No mention to the fact that even if you are linving in Vegas, you are from (you hometown/nation) and you are a PhD candidate in Archaelogy.
You dont look like the other girls he met in the last period. You are a student, a really good one. You have a picture in front of Columbia University, which you attended for your MSc and graduated.
So you are not only smart, but really intelligent.
You have those beautiful (y/h/c) hair and a gentle smile.
So he picks all his courage and writes you a simple ‘hi’.
You dont answer immediatly, even if you have read the message. So Greg closes the app with disappointed. Well. It’s proved. You cant find love in one of this app.
He decides that is far better to start with the awfull pile of documents on the desk, before is too late. Or to early, depends by the point of view.
***
He had finished with paperwork around 7 am and so he decided to go home.
In the moment he enters the living room, he feels so lonely. It’s happening quite often in the last period. He kicks his shoes away and sits on the sofa, taking a deep breath. With his eyes close, he starts to thing about the last serious date and its look like a century ago.
And it was a complete failure.
Everytime he fell for a girl is always the same old story. Firstly, amazing. Then a mess because of his job.
But he doesn't have to change is life only because he feels the emptiness of his house. He has worked so much to achieve this results and now...
Now? What he has? A good position in an horrible schedule shift. An amazing group of team mates - unfortunately Hodges is still working in the materials lab, but who cares- but no social life. No family. He is 40 now and he was looking for a 25 years girl.
So silly.
So stupid.
But what's is even silliest? Losing himself in those throughs instead of sleep. He has his shift starting at 11 pm, but he has the laudary to do. And he need to clean the apartment. Is full of dust.
****
After seven hours sleeping, he feels himself far more positive. It's around 2 pm when he wakes up and start with the laudary. He gets a look on the phone and answer to Morgan under a pic on facebook, than he notices that he has a new notification on Tinder.
He is so surprise when he realises that is you.
-who wrote 'hi' at 4.30 in the morning?-
He blushes a little, thinking about it. It was really early and he hasnt realised it.
-someone who is working at night...?-
The answer is not the best. But you are smart and you bring a good observation.
-like a hooker?-
He laught a little, rising his elbow.
-sorta. But not so well paid.-
Making fun of the hookers is not a good way to start a conversation, but someway, it works. You two share some messages and then you give your phone number to him.
You are free tomorrow for lunch, even if is unusual meeting someone with the sun in the sky, in Vegas.
And he is totaly down.
***
Is strange for you to go on a date with someone you don't know. But it is even strangest go for a lunch date. It's look so formal to you, but the guy in the profile pic looks potentially awsome. You have read from his description that he works for the Clark Country Police Department and this is a hot detail: you have a thing for cops.
You dressed nicely for the lunch inside The Venice's restaurant. Classy choice by the way. But not elegant because is 12 am. You also decide to go easy on your make up, because after this date you have to help in teaching a bacherlo class and you are hoping that you won't have enough time to change, after the meal.
So here we go.
In front of the restaurant.
You look around and see a figure a couple of meters away from you. He is pretty tall and with dark blonde hair. He is also well dressed, better then you, but not formal.
Your glazes meet in the middle of the atrium and you both smile embarrassed. He is the first one to move some steps near to you.
《Hi. You are (y/n)?》
《Yes. And you must be Greg.》
You shake his hand and then catch his invitation to enter in the restaurant first. The waiter reserved you a nice place on the balcony. The cannel is fake, not even similar to the Italian one, but is romantic.
One score for Greg.
《What would you like to eat?》, he asked so politely that you can't help yourself, but smile back.
《I thing I'll go with a sandwich for lunch》
《Nice choice, I am down. Wine?》
《Sorry, but I have a class in the afternoon...》
This time he is smiling. 《Then water for two.》
He is so kind. He decides to drink water because you can't drink wine. This is another score.
After you two have made your orders, it's time for questions.
《Do you usually meet people this way?》, je asks, nicely. Even if there is no accusation in the tune of his voice, you blush a little.
《It's not the first time, but I am still a skeptical, by the way.》
《Why?》
《Because I've met only morons on Tinder. 》 You try your best smile. 《Hope you are not one of them.》
《I share this hope with you》, he jokes. 《I am looking for your verdict at the end of the meal, so.》
You both laught. Is a nice company and the tension is going away.
《So you are a cop?》
《Not exactly. I work for the crime like as a crime scene investigator.》
You looked impressed. 《Sounds amazing but hard at the same time. I am asking to my self you an awsome guy like you is still single.... is for your job?》
This time is Greg the one who blushes. 《Yes is really... It takes most of my time. Someday all of my time.》
《I can relate》, you say. 《I am not cool as you are, I don't save people for live, neither I am good in puzzle but... I work on field so I spend several weeks abroad. Sometimes even a month or two and when I come back...》
《...You have the feeling that everyone is carries on with his life but you are static》 he ends your statement. 《Yes, you can relate, totaly.》
You two share a smile and then he starts to ask you some questiom about your job, your position at the UNLV and stuffs.
In the end, after a sweet fight, he insists to pay the meal, but you put on the table the tips.
《It was really nice 》, you say and he agrees. 《We should do that again. What's your spare night?》
《Monday》 he aswers, immediately 《If my boss wont tell me otherwise.》
《If you are agree, you can see eachother again on Monday, so.》
《It will be amazing.》
Another smile and a little silence. You have no idea of what to do now. Is too soon for a kiss, but an hand shake would be awful. So you decide to come closer to him and kiss his cheek. Is so cute the way he blushes again. Greg is near now and you can feel his breath on your lips. For him, is not too soon. He gently puts a hands on you hip and drag you into a soft kiss.
The best way to end a good date.
****
《So how is she?》
After two weeks dating, Greg decides to tell the guys about you.
Terrible idea.
《She is so nice!》 He starts excited, while Catherine is laught, shaking is head and look at David Philips in the classical 'told ya' way. 《She is beautiful and gentle. She is also tremendously determinate. More than anything, she is so intelligent and her smell is amazing.》
《She can cook?》, Super Dave asks, joking.
《Everything you can say, she can do it. Is incredible. She speaks like five languages and is so sexy in bed.》
《This information is not necessary 》 is Catherine's comment.
But Dave wants to prove a point now. 《....She speaks five languages in bed or it was not correlated?》
《Guys, we are on a crime scene.》
The two boys share a small smile and wait for Russell to be far enough. So Dave asks one last question. 《Are you only fancy her... or maybe you are already in love?》
Greg thinks about it for a couple of second. 《I am already fucked.》
Dave laughs, 《of couse you are.》
