Lan Qiren looked around, his gaze stuck somewhere above Wei Wuxian’s head, most likely the half-ruined summoning array behind him – fucking stupid, Wei Wuxian should’ve gotten rid of it immediately. Just why did it have to be a Lan summoning him, why Lan Qiren his visitor at the door? Wasn’t death enough punishment? “Wei Wuxian?” Lan Qiren asked wearily. Or, Wei Wuxian is summoned back to life in the Cloud Recesses. Unfortunately, the person to find him is Lan Qiren, forcing the unlikely duo to work together to keep the circumstances Wei Wuxian's return undiscovered.

Then Sirius gets a word that his brother Regulus is back in town and is really upset about it and refuses to make contact when Regulus passes on his phone number. BUT SURPRISE SURPRISE REGULUS IS THE BALLET INSTRUCTOR IN THE DANCE CLASS THEY SIGNED HARRY FOR! And James just can't see the monster Sirius made Regulus to be. (We learn all that Black Brothers Backstory in like chapter 23.) And they start talking, and James catches feelings, and he battles with the guilt of betraying Lily's memory as well as betraying Sirius and it's just really interesting, I love it.

While I love the idea of Lao Nie crushing the Wen who attack the CR and telling them to take a message back to "Hanhan" I'm mostly stuck on the possibilities for: a) A Lao Nie/Wingheng Jun temp. reconciliation while they chop up Wens and then immediately yell at each other (i hope QHJ would come out) b) WRH going nuts and coming to burn CR down himself because you did say that he was very, "If I can't have him then no one should," and now LN was ALIVE, and WITH that weakling LQR for YEARS?

That would ALSO be fascinating, both of them! This fic has so many interesting AU possibilities :D especially the second one. I mean, if WRH knew he was there...it’s possible. He would not react well!

He feels the gazes of his fellow Blades on him, feels the uncomfortable itch of the uniform that is required for the leader of the Blade of Marmora. He still doesn’t know how to feel about that.

“Go, go, go!” Thace’s distorted voice rings out, and he looks on as Blades jump down, watching them leave one by one. He doesn’t jump until Thace does, his second-in-command meeting him in the eyes before dropping. Takes a breath to steady himself.

Oh, if you are still looking for prompts (sorry you're bored at work, though!) could you write a fic where Huaisang finds out somehow (at or before Cloud Recesses, I think) that Meng Yao is the one who would kill NMJ? I love the intensity of NHS' love for NMJ in 'I am what I am...' but that one's so tragic. I'd love to see NHS scheming to actually save him!

So yeah. Here’s an AU for ‘I am what I am’ where I things went more along my original plan (and story canon), with LXC still struggling to believe jgy really could have killed nmj, and thus being very shocked when nhs pushes him to stab jgy, leading to lxc going to seclusion in Cloud Recesses. And then... welp, just read I guess. It’s not happy for nhs but I’m mildly tempted to add to it in the future ahah orz

Huaisang had found the book among the belongings of Mo Xuanyu. Something he had stolen from Carp Tower before leaving, and which in turn his cousin had stolen from him. Huaisang had only wanted to make sure Mo Xuanyu had left nothing that would compromise him, nothing that Wei Wuxian could use to prove his implication, should the mood strike him.

That book contained a number of dangerous rituals from ages past, curses, and all manners of demonic cultivation of the worst sort. Not something that interested Huaisang, but too dangerous to be left where anyone might find it. He’d brought it back to the Unclean Realm, and forgotten it for a few months. He’d been busy. Without Lan Xichen to help him, running his sect had become a much harder task. But his husband was in Cloud Recesses, hiding in seclusion to atone for his role in Jin Guangyao’s death and… Huaisang held no illusions. He knew Lan Xichen would not come back to him.

That was fine. He’d had years to get used to the idea. What they had shared for a while had been pleasant, yes, but… Huaisang knew what sort of a man he was. He did not deserve happiness, no more than Jin Guangyao had.

He did not miss Lan Xichen, because he had no right to miss him. Not after making him a murderer. Not after destroying the only truly good person he’d ever met.

It was boredom that led him back to Mo Xuanyu’s book, as well as some degree of curiosity. He’d never held much interest in cultivation, let alone in that of the unlawful sort but… it was winter. Things were slow in the Unclean Realm, and everywhere he looked, he saw reminders of what he should never have had in the first place. Compared to the loneliness of a cold bed, a book of curses felt almost pleasant.

That was how he found one particular ritual. One that promised to give a chance to correct mistakes of the past, if one was willing to make the necessary sacrifices. The requirements were rather gory, several animals needed to die and so would the caster but the promised reward was enticing: to send one’s consciousness back in time and inhabit once more the body of their youth.

Ridiculous.

And yet, night after night, Huaisang found himself coming back to the book, to that page. The things that ritual demanded would make him a full monster, one beyond redemption… although perhaps he’d crossed that line already. But if it worked, if it were real, it could save Mingjue. If he could prevent his brother from taking Meng Yao as his second… or perhaps not that, since that line of event had helped toward a shorter war. Then, at least, if he could stop Meng Yao from provoking that Qi deviation… then Mingjue could live.

A fanciful notion, and one that amused Huaisang for a while.

Until one day, it hit him that it wouldn’t be only Mingjue’s fate he would change.

If he were to do this, he would alter Lan Xichen’s life too. His husband wouldn’t go through heartbreak, he would get to marry the man he loved, he would get to be happy.

There were few things Huaisang wouldn’t have done for his brother.

Those things, he realised with mild horror, he would gladly do just to see Xichen smile again, even if it would never be at him.

Huaisang did not want to think about what that said about him, about the way he felt for the man who had stood at his side for a decade. He had lost Xichen in this life and, as he gathered the required elements for the ritual, he knew he was preparing to lose him in another one too.

It was fine, he reminded himself as his blade cut through his skin in complicated patterns, letting his blood join that of a number of animals. Lan Xichen had never been his to have.

He collapsed soon after, unsure what might happen.

It was a surprise when he opened his eyes and found himself in a room both foreign and familiar, bathed in the pale light of early morning as a bell rang in the distance. Cloud Recesses. The ritual had worked.

Huaisang smirked to himself.

So he’d really been given a second chance. He’d make it count.

Mingjue and Xichen would be happy, no matter what it cost him.

Punishment and A Break are SO SO BEAUTIFUL. I love them so much, thank you for writing them! Every sect basically sets the stage for its own destruction in canon, and for some reason the Lans get away without facing the full consequences of their actions, and you made that happen here. It's beautiful! (And tragic, and sad, but beautiful)

I really don’t know how even Wei Wuxian could see the scars on Lan Wangji’s back and then be like “Oh, yeah, I guess that makes sense,” when Lan Xichen explained to him what happened. Where the fuck does that even make sense. I’m so happy you’re enjoying this

B, I have to ask: in my language theres a popular saying: just as lotus flowers stretch to the surface in any flood, so men's greatness/abilities depend on the expanse/heights of their minds. It always struck me as the reason YunmengJiang's motto is the one that's "attempt the impossible", because that's what lotuses symbolize to us. Knowing that, and assuming it's similar in Chinese, any idea what the other clans' symbols and mottos represent?

I believe the Lanling Jin’s sect motto is “illuminate the world with vermilion light”, which, according to the EXR scanlations, is in reference to the vermilion mark they have on their foreheads. Apparently this used to be a practice in parts of China (as well as India, South East Asia etc.) to symbolise the opening of the third eye?

Gusu Lan’s motto is “be righteous”, which is pretty self-explanatory lol

I’m not sure about Qinghe Nie or Qishan Wen’s motto?? I can’t find any mention of it. Does anyone else know?

Oh hey! Do you have any monsters/ghosts/demons/fae/yao etc. references for mdzs and/or tgcf? I... am writing a somewhat crossover between the two, and I need to know how all of these things work. Like... Hua Cheng after he died was like that tiny spirit thing. What gives him the power to turn solid and have a shape? How does a dead person's eyeball become a sword? Could anyone do that? How is he different from Jian Lan? Qi Rong? Wen Ning? Nie Mingjue? (What should NMJ have done to level up?)

I think even though TGCF and MDZS have similar elements of magic and cultivation, etc. the rules probably work quite differently between the two verses! I have no idea at all how Hua Cheng works... like, any of it. I know he’s different from Jian Lan and Qi Rong because of his time in TongLu mountain and being a supreme and all that. As for the MDZS people since the same rules don’t apply, (i.e. there aren’t any supremes or ghost kings or differently ranked ghosts) I don’t know how Wen Ning or NMJ could have become anything close to Hua Cheng! (Also, NMJ’s soul was split into pieces along with his body so I’m assuming even if ghosts can get more powerful, that’s why he didn’t) 

I know the above ^ is not helpful at all... If you’re doing a crossover, then I guess you can just make things up? Sorry I couldn’t be of more help! I haven’t read tgcf in forever (it is so. long.) good luck with your story! i’m always up to listen if you wanna talk about it, even if i can’t help!!

You know what, I think the reason why the Snitch is worth 150 points is rooted in siblings bullshittery.

It was originally worth 15 points, and then playing in the backyard some eldest sibling was a sore loser and said it was fifty not fifteen, which later changed to hundred and fifty when somebody was updating the official rule book. Then Sirius gets a word that his brother Regulus is back in town and is really upset about it and refuses to make contact when Regulus passes on his phone number. BUT SURPRISE SURPRISE REGULUS IS THE BALLET INSTRUCTOR IN THE DANCE CLASS THEY SIGNED HARRY FOR! And James just can't see the monster Sirius made Regulus to be. (We learn all that Black Brothers Backstory in like chapter 23.) And they start talking, and James catches feelings, and he battles with the guilt of betraying Lily's memory as well as betraying Sirius and it's just really interesting, I love it.

(And did Professor Hatake really deflect that curse with his sword? Kakashi’s dad is so cool! And has a face! Naruto might never get over this.)

Since I can't quit writing new WIPs, I'm trying to stay strong and not post them because that just makes everyone else irritated when waiting for me to post the updates. However, I really want to post my current WIP, featuring Hanguang Jun who died from the 33 lashes, and ends up haunting Jiang Cheng, because he was looking for Wei Ying, and Jiang Cheng has his core. It also has LXC breaking into pieces because his brother is dead, and NMJ and JGY getting along better to try to keep LXC safe. Gahhh I REALLY REALLY want to post, I've finished three chapters I have so little self control.

MDZS Language Fest is officially a go!

This is the official post to announce the beginning of MDZS fandom’s multilingual fest that we did an interest check for a while ago. Back then the feedback we got was overwhelmingly positive, so we are hoping that as many as possible join and enjoy this event! To achieve this, we also appreciate signal boosts through reblogging this post ^^ 

What is happening?

This is a fan fest aimed to celebrate the linguistic diversity of the Mo Dao Zu Shi fandom here on tumblr

The point is to create original content in a form of your own choice: gifs, graphics, edits, fanart, fanfic, video edits - your pick! All types of content are welcomed! 

Tie your creation to a language you feel connected to. It can be your native tongue but it can also be a language you studied or a language you just feel calling for you! (Any language is welcome, including and especially Mandarin and Cantonese! English isn’t excluded but we wish it to not be the focus here)

The event runs for a week from November 22nd to 28th so prepare to be ready then! 

How do I join? 

Follow the event blog and reblog this post so that as many as possible may take part in on the fun 

Use the tag #mdzsmultilingual21 preferably amongst the first five tags of your post so that we can catch your creation and reblog it to this blog

Mention the language(s) you used in the caption of your post and preferably provide an English translation for everyone to enjoy

You may post as many creations as you want for each day! We are not going to limit your creativity

What if I don’t have any ideas? 

We offer you daily prompts that you can use as inspiration! Here you go:

Monday 22nd: red, mythology, rich and poor

Tuesday 23rd: orange, family, slow and fast

Wednesday 24th: yellow, grief, exciting and boring

Thursday 25th: green, friendship, old and young 

Friday 26th: blue, joy, dead and alive 

Saturday 27th: purple, romance, steady and unsteady

Sunday 28th: black & white, flowers, deep and shallow

Using these prompts isn’t required. You can use as many or as few of these prompts as you like for each day; we would only be happy if you let us know in the caption of your post what prompts you used if you decided to use them at all! Also, schedule your post to be posted on the date of the corresponding prompt so that it’s easy to connect.  

Feel free to also mix and match prompts between different days etc. and then post accordingly. These are merely ideas that we wanted to throw at people to see what might happen.
