You’ve had quite the entrepreneurial journey, starting STAK in college and going on to be acquired by Carvertise. How did those early experiences shape your product mindset?
This was a really interesting time in my life. My roommate and I started STAK because we were bored with our coursework and wanted real-world experience. We never imagined it would lead to us getting acquired by what became Delaware’s poster startup. That experience really shaped my product mindset because I naturally gravitated toward talking to businesses, asking them about their problems, and building solutions. I didn’t even know what a product manager was back then—I was just doing the job.
At Carvertise, I started doing the same thing: working with their customers to understand pain points and develop solutions—again, well before I had the PM title. As an engineer, your job is to solve problems with technology. As a product manager, your job shifts to finding the right problems—the ones that are worth solving because they also drive business value. As an entrepreneur, especially without funding, your mindset becomes: how do I solve someone’s problem in a way that helps me put food on the table? That early scrappiness and hustle taught me to always look through different lenses. Whether you’re at a self-funded startup, a VC-backed company, or a healthcare giant, Maslow’s “basic need” mentality will always be the foundation.
You talk about your passion for coaching aspiring product managers. What advice do you wish you had when you were breaking into product?
The best advice I ever got—and the advice I give to aspiring PMs—is: “If you always argue from the customer’s perspective, you’ll never lose an argument.” That line is deceptively simple but incredibly powerful. It means you need to truly understand your customer—their needs, pain points, behavior, and context—so you’re not just showing up to meetings with opinions, but with insights. Without that, everything becomes HIPPO (highest paid person’s opinion), a battle of who has more power or louder opinions. With it, you become the person people turn to for clarity.
You’ve previously stated that every employee will soon work alongside a dozen AI agents. What does this AI-augmented future look like in a day-to-day workflow?
What may be interesting is that we are already in a reality where people are working with multiple AI agents – we’ve helped our customers like DCU plan, build, test, safeguard, and put dozens of agents to help their workforce. What’s fascinating is companies are building out organization charts of AI coworkers for each employee, based on their needs. For example, employees will have their own AI agents dedicated to certain use cases—such as an agent for drafting epics/user stories, one that assists with coding or prototyping or issues pull requests, and another that analyzes customer feedback – all sanctioned and orchestrated by IT because there’s a lot on the backend determining who has access to which data, which agents need to adhere to governance guidelines, etc. I don’t believe agents will replace humans, yet. There will be a human in the loop for the foreseeable future but they will remove the repetitive, low-value tasks so people can focus on higher-level thinking. In five years, I expect most teams will rely on agents the same way we rely on Slack or Google Docs today.
How do you recommend companies bridge the AI literacy gap between technical and non-technical teams?
Start small, have a clear plan of how this fits in with your data and application integration strategy, keep it hands-on to catch any surprises, and be open to iterating from the original goals and approach. Find problems by getting curious about the mundane tasks in your business. The highest-value problems to solve are often the boring ones that the unsung heroes are solving every day. We learned a lot of these best practices firsthand as we built agents to assist our SnapLogic finance department. The most important approach is to make sure you have secure guardrails on what types of data and applications certain employees or departments have access to.
Then companies should treat it like a college course: explain key terms simply, give people a chance to try tools themselves in controlled environments, and then follow up with deeper dives. We also make it known that it is okay not to know everything. AI is evolving fast, and no one’s an expert in every area. The key is helping teams understand what’s possible and giving them the confidence to ask the right questions.
What are some effective strategies you’ve seen for AI upskilling that go beyond generic training modules?
The best approach I’ve seen is letting people get their hands on it. Training is a great start—you need to show them how AI actually helps with the work they’re already doing. From there, treat this as a sanctioned approach to shadow IT, or shadow agents, as employees are creative to find solutions that may solve super particular problems only they have. We gave our field team and non-technical teams access to AgentCreator, SnapLogic’s agentic AI technology that eliminates the complexity of enterprise AI adoption, and empowered them to try building something and to report back with questions. This exercise led to real learning experiences because it was tied to their day-to-day work.
Do you see a risk in companies adopting AI tools without proper upskilling—what are some of the most common pitfalls?
The biggest risks I’ve seen are substantial governance and/or data security violations, which can lead to costly regulatory fines and the potential of putting customers’ data at risk. However, some of the most frequent risks I see are companies adopting AI tools without fully understanding what they are and are not capable of. AI isn’t magic. If your data is a mess or your teams don’t know how to use the tools, you’re not going to see value. Another issue is when organizations push adoption from the top down and don’t take into consideration the people actually executing the work. You can’t just roll something out and expect it to stick. You need champions to educate and guide folks, teams need a strong data strategy, time, and context to put up guardrails, and space to learn.
At SnapLogic, you’re working on new product development. How does AI factor into your product strategy today?
AI and customer feedback are at the heart of our product innovation strategy. It’s not just about adding AI features, it’s about rethinking how we can continually deliver more efficient and easy-to-use solutions for our customers that simplify how they interact with integrations and automation. We’re building products with both power users and non-technical users in mind—and AI helps bridge that gap.

Instead of just listening to their proposed solutions, we could co-create with them and uncover better ways to solve their problems. This shift will make the product development process dramatically more collaborative, creative, and aligned. And that excites me because my favorite part of the job is building alongside others to solve meaningful problems.

Nintendo is removing twitter integration next week, here's what to do to share screenshots instead
So in case you missed it, Nintendo announced last month that they're removing the Switch's twitter integration on Jun 10/11 (depending on your time zone) as a result of twitter jacking up their API fees to absolutely ridiculous degrees. This will not affect making posts in the plaza (at least in Splatoon 3) but it does mean you will not be able to upload screenshots and videos to twitter for easy access.
If you're like me and do this a lot, then you've got two alternatives.
One of these methods is significantly easier than the others, but requires a computer that runs Windows and a USB cable. With your Switch in portable mode, go into your System Settings and find the Data Management section:

Click it and scroll down to the "Copy to PC via USB Connection" option.

Click it and you'll be prompted to connect your Switch to your PC via USB. When you do, a folder containing all your Switch screenshots and videos will pop up on your PC. From there, you can copy as many videos and screenshots as you'd like to a location of your choosing, at which point you can disconnect your Switch.

And now you're done!
The other option is a bit more finicky (and also I can't take screenshots to show you the process), but can be done with any smart device. Go into your Album and pick a video or screenshot you would like to share. Select Send to smart device, after which you'll be prompted to scan a QR code. Scan it with your smart device and you'll be given a link to connect to a Wifi, which sounds weird but is just how the console and smart device connects. Once they have, you'll be able to send your images and video to your phone.

Welp, I've been using external methods of auto-backing up my tumblr but it seems like it doesn't do static pages, only posts.
So I guess I'll have some manual backing up to do later
Still, it's better than nothing and I'm using the official tumblr backup process for my smaller blogs so hopefully that'll net the static pages and direct messages too. But. My main - starstruckpurpledragon - 'backed up' officially but was undownloadable; either it failed or it'd download a broken, unusable, 'empty' zip. So *shrugs* I'm sure I'm not the only one who is trying to back up everything at once. Wouldn't be shocked if the rest of the backups are borked too when I try to download their zips.
There are two diff ways I've been externally backing up my tumblr.
TumblThree - This one is relatively straight forward in that you can download it and start backing up immediately. It's not pretty, but it gets the job done. Does not get static pages or your direct message conversations, but your posts, gifs, jpegs, etc are all there. You can back up more than just your own blog(s) if you want to as well.
That said, it dumps all your posts into one of three text files which makes them hard to find. That's why I say it's 'not pretty'. It does have a lot of options in there that are useful for tweaking your download experience and it's not bad for if you're unfamiliar with command line solutions and don't have an interest in learning them. (Which is fair, command line can be annoying if you're not used to it.) There are options for converting the output into nicer html files for each post but I haven't tried them and I suspect they require command line anyway.
I got my blogs backed up using this method as of yesterday but wasn't thrilled with the output. Decided that hey, I'm a software engineer, command line doesn't scare me, I'll try this back up thing another way. Leading to today's successful adventures with:
TumblrUtils - This one does take more work to set up but once it's working it'll back up all your posts in pretty html files by default. It does take some additional doing for video/audio but so does TumblThree so I'll probably look into it more later.
First, you have to download and install python. I promise, the code snake isn't dangerous, it's an incredibly useful scripting language. If you have an interest in learning computer languages, it's not a bad one to know. Installing python should go pretty fast and when it's completed, you'll now be able to run python scripts from the command line/terminal.
Next, you'll want to actually download the TumblrUtils zip file and unzip that somewhere. I stuck mine on an external drive, but basically put it where you've got space and can access it easily.
You'll want to open up the tumblr_backup.py file with a text editor and find line 105, which should look like: ''' API_KEY = '' '''
So here's the hard part. Getting a key to stick in there. Go to the tumblr apps page to 'register' an application - which is the fancy way of saying request an API. Hit the register an application button and, oh joy. A form. With required fields. *sigh* All the url fields can be the same url. It just needs to be a valid one. Ostensibly something that interfaces with tumblr fairly nicely. I have an old wordpress blog, so I used it. The rest of the fields should be pretty self explanatory. Only fill in the required ones. It should be approved instantly if everything is filled in right.
And maybe I'll start figuring out wordpress integration if tumblr doesn't die this year, that'd be interesting. *shrug* I've got too many projects to start a new one now, but I like learning things for the sake of learning them sometimes. So it's on my maybe to do list now.
Anywho, all goes well, you should now have an 'OAuth Consumer Key' which is the API key you want. Copy that, put in between the empty single quotes in the python script, and hit save.
Command line time!
It's fairly simple to do. Open your command line (or terminal), navigate to where the script lives, and then run: ''' tumblr_backup.py <blog_name_here> '''
You can also include options before the blog name but after the script filename if you want to get fancy about things. But just let it sit there running until it backs the whole blog up. It can also handle multiple blogs at once if you want. Big blogs will take hours, small blogs will take a few minutes. Which is about on par with TumblThree too, tbh.
The final result is pretty. Individual html files for every post (backdated to the original post date) and anything you reblogged, theme information, a shiny index file organizing everything. It's really quite nice to dig through. Much like TumbleThree, it does not seem to grab direct message conversations or static pages (non-posts) but again it's better than nothing.
And you can back up other blogs too, so if there are fandom blogs you follow and don't want to lose or friends whose blogs you'd like to hang on to for your own re-reading purposes, that's doable with either of these backup options.
I've backed up basically everything all over again today using this method (my main is still backing up, slow going) and it does appear to take less memory than official backups do. So that's a plus.
Anyway, this was me tossing my hat into the 'how to back up your tumblr' ring. Hope it's useful. :D

BTW I think the "Grok is stealing code from OpenAI" thing is bullshit, shared by people who do not understand how OpenAI works.
I believe it's way more likely that Grok is simply a finetuned version of gpt-3.5 they're paying OpenAI to actually run.

Creating and running your own LLM is VERY expensive, and takes way more time than Grok had put into it. Fine-tuning a model by using a bunch of twitter data and getting an API from OpenAI to integrate into your app is a lot more doable, especially if then you make the twitter assholes who want to use Grok pay for the tokens they're using. Hell, you could even attempt to turn a bit of a profit that way.
It is no coincidence that Grok happened when the price per token of gpt-3.5 went down due to the availability of gpt-4, in my opinion.

One of my pet peeves in robot fiction is AIs using HUDs or GUIs to interact with its own systems. Those are graphical user interfaces. They're for humans. Robots aren't users; they are the computer. They don't need that. Even if the AI is purely software and has no native integration with the hardware, it would use an API (application program interface), which is still just straight code.
A robot wouldn't get a pop-up saying low battery, nor would it have to close it. They would experience it like a human. The robot would be alerted in the same way a human just becomes aware of the sensation of itching or hunger: you're always processing data and now there's a new type of data which is different. And the way it would dismiss the alert would be to just decide to do nothing about it.
Problems can occur when 1) the signal interrupts other processes and the error must be addressed before other processes can continue, but for whatever reason the error can't be fixed, or 2) the signal is non interrupting, but it's being sent so repeatedly/frequently that it floods the incoming data queue.
