Yeah, I know "not all aro/aces" and all, but please don't use "not all aro/aces" as an excuse to not explore anything exclusively aro/ace ever. Otherwise any trace of aro/aceness might end up effectively lost to fandom osmosis.
To sum up... If you wouldn't be homophobic that way, please don't be aphobic that way.

NONBURGER
NON-bur-gur ( N.) Word to use for a meatless hamburger that tastes and looks (pretty much) like a hamburger made of beef, but contains no animal proteins. Also may be used as adj. to describe the ground product used in cooking, available in grocery stores (and in Impossible Tacos and Bowls at Qdoba and Taco Bell.)  Usage: Joel ate a nonburger and fries at Burger King (the Impossible Whopper, they called it) and wondered when McDonald’s would start serving its version, the P.L.T. That night, at home, he made nonburger chili for dinner.

What is a burger?
Not every sandwich served on a round bun is a “burger.”
A sandwich with a ground beef patty is a hamburger.  That’s a burger.  That’s the origin of the term “burger.”  All other burgers are, by definition, some variation on the original hamburger -- a cheeseburger is a hamburger with cheese, a bacon cheeseburger adds bacon, and so on.
Any other sandwich with a ground meat (or vegetarian substitute) patty made in imitation of a hamburger is also considered a type of burger, as it’s a variation on a hamburger that swaps out the beef for some other meat (or veggie substitute.)  It’s made in the style of a hamburger but with a different patty, thus it is a burger.  Not a full fledged hamburger, mind you, but still definitely close enough to earn the title of “burger.”
I’ll even tentatively grant mushroom-burgers the title of “burger” (despite them using a huge slab of solid mushroom rather than any sort of ground patty), mostly because every single restaurant I’ve been to that served a sandwich with a single huge slab of portobello mushroom in place of meat called it a mushroom-burger.  It’s a similar case to veggie-burger patties: the intent is to have a “burger” for someone who wouldn’t eat a beef-based burger.  If there’s evidence that the first person to make such a sandwich didn’t call it a burger, however, then its burger status will be revoked.  Only when burger intent is present can a not-quite-burgoid-but-close sandwich be considered a burger.
Other sandwiches which do not feature a ground meat patty (or meat-substitute) are not burgers.
For example, a chicken sandwich is not a “chicken burger” unless it’s actually made with a grilled (broiled, etc.) patty of ground chicken -- a hamburger but with chicken in place of beef.  Most chicken sandwiches are not that -- they typically use a breaded and fried piece of chicken, or use a whole grilled chicken breast fillet.  So they are nonburgers.  Hardee’s Hot Ham & Cheese sandwich is not a burger, it is a ham and cheese sandwich that happens to be served on a round sesame-seed topped bun.  A roast beef sandwich is not a burger.  A pulled-pork barbecue sandwich is not a burger.  A fish sandwich is not a burger.  Subs are not burgers, unless you’re some kind of weirdo who makes a sub with a bunch of burger patties instead of sliced meats... then I guess you can call your sandwich abomination a Burger Sub or a Longburger or something along those lines.  If you make a grilled cheese sandwich using hamburger buns for some reason, it is not a burger.
Do not call nonburgers “burgers.”
You’ll look silly, and not in a good way.

I dunno, sometimes it feels much better to have a neutral word to describe a neutral reality rather than being defaulted to "gay" at best and "frigid bitch" at worst

Quick reminder since apparently it bears reminding in both directions: if bigoted people, closed-minded people overall, or your own internalized insecurities misinterpret a queer person’s message in a way that hurts/endangers you, yeah, it sucks, but it’s not the fault of the queer person in question, nor should it be a reason for them to silence themselves. They’re probably as hurt/pissed as you are that someone misinterpreted and misused their message to do harm.
Of course sadly there’ll still be queer people that actually DO mean harm and dismissal to other queer people – I ain’t speaking for those and it’s not the best way to ensure their and others’ wellbeing imo. I’m just saying – not all people will be like that. That’s what I want to believe. So hopefully let’s not put everyone in the same bag, keep supporting each other, WHILE allowing each other to advocate for our own visibility, without having to self-erase or self-censor to accomodate to what haters might say.
It’ll be tougher this way, maybe, because humans seem to like to draw extreme conclusions very quick, but I don’t believe there’s any better way for us all to be alright and stay alright on the long run.

Bottomline is – of course I want to be loved. Luckily for me, I AM loved, too. So don't you go worrying about me "not being loved".

This one is arguably very personal because I have no idea if other aros feel the same – but I've seen too many stories about a character being rejected where the person doing the rejecting is (accidentally or not) implied to be some sort of "bad guy" or "the one who has it easier", so I guess I had an itch to show my side.
Aromantic people and alloromantic people have such different views on what "true love" is that it's not about one or the other being "in the wrong" – it's just one big compatibility issue. All I can say is – as an aromantic, being confessed to romantically IS what leaves me heartbroken, for such reasons. Hopefully there will be a broader understanding of this in the future.

Lately I've read one defense of casual/systemic/accidental aphobia too many and I let it get to my head.
Just because people "don't mean to hurt you", that doesn't mean they don't hurt you. That shouldn't justify hurtful dismissal. Especially after you make it clear over and over again that you don't wanna be dismissed and that it hurts.
I'm all for giving people time to get educated and open their mind to things but... Yeah typically that ain't that.
Bleh.
PS: The saddest part is that despite deciding "we should be past that" the fight ain't over for anybody anyway really. But yeah, the "they just want you to be happy" excuse helps nowhere, is my point.
