idk I guess I'm tired of this attitude that if you're not constantly reading 9,000 page books or publicly critically analyzing the shows you're watching with huge essays, it means you don't actually engage deeply with material or you're somehow vapid and something something "consume product"
like man, stuff exists besides Media To Consume. Art is great and it's awesome. It's very cool to read books and like TV shows and movies. And not all of those need to be fuckin Citizen Kane. But it's awesome to like intense stuff too. But like yeah. You gotta have other stuff you do. I have lots of other stuff I do! Sometimes I don't even post on the internet about it!
So when I come online and post a bunch of Transformers or Gundam screencaps of some beautiful boy with the caption GOD I HATE HIS FUCKING FACE I'M GONNA CHEW HIS SKIN OFF GRRRR I AM SO IN LOVE it doesn't actually mean I don't have deeper thoughts than that. I'm just posting because I'm in my 30s and work 40 hours a week and just wanna watch a fun cartoon sometimes man.

Katniss is such an unreliable narrator. She says "Then something unexpected happens. At least, I don't expect it because I don't think of District 12 as a place that cares about me" girl you deliver strawberries to the Mayor, you hunt and trade for the district, when you fell at Prim being chosen someone caught you, when you went to Prim people parted for you, when you volunteered EVERYONE stopped. Idk how to tell you but I think you're a pillar of the community.
#katniss everdeen#the hunger games trilogy#the hunger games#primrose everdeen#hunger games#batcavescolony reads the hunger games#suzanne collins#'now it seems i have become someone precious' NOW? GIRL BFFR you're their hunter girl#and this isn't negative just bffr girl#your WHOLE DISTRICT did the three finger salute that you yourself says means admiration thanks and goodbye to someone you love and on top is#old a rarely used. your WHOLE DISTRICT decided in that moment that they needed to bring back this sign of respect for YOU#...................................................................#idk why some people are thinking i mean this as negative i don't she is unreliable but its not intentional. like when Peeta heart stoped in#CF she doesn't know what Finnick is doing at first cus she doesn't know off the top of her head what cpr is. she also thinks Peeta after the#reaping is acting for the cameras. he isnt we dind out later his mom basically told him Katniss was gonna win and he would die. obviously#shes not doing it on purpose shes just for lack of better words uneducated? as in she doesn't know everything shes not omnipotent#so when Plutarch (? second games guy) shows her his mokingjay hiden watch shes like *wtf that's weird?* then the people traveling to#district 13 show her the mockingjay cookie and explains it and she then goes on the difference between his watch and their cookie#and why does eveyone act as if district 12 is as bad as the capital? they CANT help Katniss and Prim in the way you want. they cant give#them food. none of them have any! and im not putting iton Katniss but they hid they needed food so they could stay together. it sounds like#some of you are in this our world mentally of what people do after a loved one dies (brings food constantly checks on them etc) district 12#cant do that. they dont have food and they're all suffering. you cant give someone food when you have none to give. then theirs the fact#that peeta DID help. Peeta buring the bread and tossing some to her then taking a beating from his mom is a HUGE thing in the books.#he used his resources to help her like you all said someone should.#district 12 DID (rip) care about Katniss before the hunger games. why do you think she was allowed to hunt? or how her trades were good#these are the little ways 12 can shows Katniss they love her. but again Katniss doesn't see this and YES its because she had ptsd before the#hunger games as well. i swear some of you make it seem like d12 was all living a life of luxury and glaring down at Katniss.#other things that show Katniss is in hight standing with at least her people of d12 is her dad was known enough through d12 for peeta dad to#comment on his singing along with his commenting on her mom. also her mom is a healer in the community. yeah her parents arnt the top but#of d12 but they are/were definitely high staning in the Seam.

Early in their time at Scoops Ahoy, Robin forgets that she’s decided to hate Steve forever and starts telling him a funny story about the time her family went to camping. Steve’s laughing along and afterwards is like, “That’s so funny. I stopped telling people stories about my childhood.”
Robin thinking that Steve must’ve went on all these extravagant trips and did a lot of cool stuff, is like, “Why, all your friends jealous?”
“No,” Steve says, distractedly restocking sprinkles. “Everybody kept being like, ‘ that’s messed up. Are you okay? You should tell an adult about that.’ It was really annoying so I stopped saying stuff.”
Robin just stares at him because, what?
After a second goes by, and then another, and then another… Steve looks up and frowns, “Hey, space cadet. You with me?”
Robin blinks.
She decides he’s joking. He has to be. No one is that casual about shit and he doesn’t even look serious so she tells him as she walks back out to help a customer, “It’s messed up to say things like that.”
“That’s exactly what I was talking about,” Steve tells the empty room.

I love that everyone in TMA is just. Unremarkable. Jon isnt a heroic character; he's self-loathing and depressed and he exhibits the same self-pity as I do when I'm self-loathing and depressed. He doesn't stand out for his strength of will or quick-thinking or virtue. He's a good person but he stops trying to stay human when it gets uncomfortable. He's everything that a regular person is when theyre trapped in a horrible situation and it's ugly and insufferable and Real.

I love that the villain of Mouthwashing is not some outer space monster, it's not a science experiment broken free from a lab, it's not even a man with an obvious stereotypical mental illness.
It's a man with self esteem problems. A selfish cowardly man who so badly wanted to be praised for doing the bare minimum. A man who let envy bite through the hand that fed him. Cause sometimes the worst monsters are the ones that are the most human. And everyone died and suffered because one man (Curly this time) kept making excuses for that one weak link (Jimmy).
I also love that the crew in Mouthwashing didn't die because Jimmy went around hacking them up. They died because of his poor leadership decisions. The leadership that he so badly believed that he could do better than Curly.
- Anya was already stressed out from the assault and she was on the edge of a mental breakdown, Jimmy responded to that by shouting at her. 💀 Girl chugged down that pill bottle like it was water.
- Daisuke was an intern, he just did whatever he was told, eager to impress Jimmy. Jimmy says climb the vents, Daisuke climbed the vents. The vents collapsed on Daisuke.
Jimmy then tries to disinfect the wound with Mouthwashing, mind you Anya had earlier mentioned that using the chemical would only make wounds worse. Swansea reminded him of this. Jimmy ignores him. Proceeds to aggravate Daisuke's wounds so bad they Swansea has to mercy kill him.
- Swansea is an old man and 'life in prison' does not mean so much to him anymore. Plus, Jimmy has stepped on his last nerve. Swansea tries to kill Jimmy. Jimmy shoots him.
A domino of events that look like accidents, all avoidable if Jimmy listened, if Jimmy calmed down, if Jimmy did not act so darned arrogant and demanding all the darn time. And now he's left in a ship of corpses, but Curly is still there........
So Jimmy does what he does best.
He blames Curly (and then Jimmy finally has a mental breakdown).

Man. If I had a nickel for every time Zac Oyama and Lou Wilson had to rp a breakup-coded fight between their “platonic besties” characters because Zac’s character was experiencing a hard personal internal struggle and decided to leave a group/cause that he wasn’t actually invested in and mostly just joined because Lou’s character was passionate about it and Lou’s character was canonically very charismatic and good at garnering followers/admirers but Zac’s character was one of his only true friends that he fully trusted and was loyal to and Lou’s character was really hurt when Zac’s character left, less by the actual action of leaving and more by the implication that he didn’t care about Lou’s character enough to stay I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s fucking RUDE that it’s happened twice.

imagine creating a show that consistently shows a group of very damaged people who struggle to fit in with “normal” society, the consistent message of which is that life is worth EVERYTHING, that pushing forward in the face of unspeakable horrors and against seemingly impossible fates is worth it BECAUSE life and love and peace are priceless. and then ending that show by saying “the problem was actually that these weirdo fuckups Exist. and actually they cosmically deserve to be murdered and never should have been allowed to experience joy and happiness and peace or to move forward because they are fundamentally Bad.” imagine.

Minthara's Underdark ending, although far from her worst ending, is quite the tragic one. And I'm talking about when she goes to the Underdark by herself and this is considered her "default" ending.
The entire game, when she speaks of home, it's with heavy grief and sadness. She says she will miss home until the day she dies, accepting that she will never go back. To return is to beget death as she would be returning as a traitor to Lolth. And as a former paladin of Lolth, she knows better than anyone what is in store for her. She knows she will be hunted down and has a target on her back.
So it is especially tragic that when left to herself, she goes back to the Underdark anyway. Danger and treachery is all she has ever known, but her dialogue at the party almost hints that she isn't enjoying it this time around.
In her Baldur's Gate ending, she seems so much happier. Ruling the city from the shadows isn't without its dangers, but it most certainly is not as dangerous as the Underdark is. If you romance her, this is what she actually wants to do. She wants to stay on the surface with you and slowly but surely take over Baldur's Gate. She only returns to the Underdark because you propose it. If you never mention it, she embraces and welcomes the biggest change of her life and learns to live on the surface, something she had never once considered before in her life. Your presence gives her the courage to do things she has never done before and embrace change.
But without you, she returns to the only thing she has ever known because she is too afraid to embrace the change, too afraid to walk a different path. Where staying on the surface is so much more terrifying than returning to the Underdark where she will constantly be looking over her shoulder. Shunned by Lolth, she feels lost and doesn't know what to do with herself. Up until 6 months ago, she had a purpose, destroy the Absolute. Then that quickly changed to claim the Absolute. The idea of claiming the Absolute, she saw a future that already fit her world view and details everything she needed to do because it wasn't so different that what she would of otherwise done. She already imagined a world of conquest, and she preemptively gave herself a long term purpose.
Without the Absolute, without you, she has no purpose, and no real reason to stay on the surface, and does not know what else to do with herself. At least in the Underdark she has a purpose and it's the same one that any noble female drow would have: kill mom and become matron. But I don't know if Minthara has really thought of what to do beyond that because she's not particularly good at straying from preset courses on her own. There is this potential risk of regression here. Of turning back into that prideful woman that the Absolute was able to easily lure into a trap. To return to the person who was lost in blood and madness, and Minthara already sees herself as being mad for even returning to the Underdark to begin with. Even though she has every intent to piss off Lolth, I can't help but wonder if Minthara who is left completely alone and lost would return to Lolth if she made Minthara a sweet sweet promise, throwing Minthara into the same damned cycle all over again.

The two-year anniversary of an event which shall not be named sounds like a good enough excuse to post this CX-2 Tech portrait that I drew back when season 3 was airing and all the CX theories were at their peak (I was so disappointed by the lack of a reveal that I never posted it back then 😔)
BONUS: for something happier, here's a post-canon TechPhee sketch that I'd still like to finish someday 💕

one really big life lesson I am still learning is how to recognize the differences between three separate, but highly interactive and confusable, things that can be happening:
1) Someone is mad at you
2) Someone has revised their opinion of you downwards
3) Something bad is going to happen to you

Random thought/question: what would your Tavs/Durge and their significant others like... legit fight about? Not bicker, not argue, but actually get mad and say things they don't mean and have to cool off and talk about it later when calmer heads prevail and they're able to apologize without it sounding forced?
this is such a great question that i needed a whole 24 hours to think about it akdhdjhd
i think gale and cyra probably have small things blow out of proportion (because honestly. kids and work and Tired) and then a Lot of stuff they haven't talked about comes up and it ends with 'how the fuck did forgetting to change the bedsheets turn into This'
i actually feel like dorian and astarion are pretty good 90% of the time but sometimes one of them is in a bad place and is like 'i actually really need to be left alone with this thing right now and i don't want to talk about it' and maybe they're not always great at taking the hint
ashe and halsin have never had a fight ever

tbh I think Calypso views herself as Odysseus's rest and reward. like, she's the comfort in a hurt/comfort fic. she's the therapy saga. and honestly, a lot of her actions make sense when you look at it like that.
Odysseus is traumatised and scared and hurting. and she understands that. she's so understanding that she doesn't take it personally when he yells or screams or begs -- trauma makes it hard to regulate emotions, after all. he'll calm down in a little bit.
she's so understanding that she's not even hurt when he rejects her advances. he's been alone for so long that he's scared of intimacy now. but she doesn't let that discourage her. he'll get used to the idea eventually.
she's so understanding that she doesn't give up on him, even when he talks and talks and talks about his wife and son. obviously he wants to go back to them, but what he wants isn't what's good for him. that's fine, he doesn't need to know what's good for him yet. that's what she's for.
she's so understanding that she doesn't even let it upset her too much when Ody stands too close to the edge and stares out at sea below like its calling to him. it's okay. she can catch him if he falls.
sure, they're relationship isn't what she's dreamed about for centuries -- real relationships never are that perfect. her Ody has a lot of healing to do. and she'll make sure she's with him through it all.
