Stargazing with Timothy for the first time has been one of the most peaceful experiences that Micah rarely receives nowadays. It’s lovely being able to find a time to find only ease, now being when they were having exchanges about themselves and Micah would ramble about the outer space while Timothy would listen attentively. Then there’s a certain point when he complimented xyr freckles. ( His kind words still linger at the back of Micah’s mind, xyr cheeks burning occasionally the longer xe dwells over the compliments. )
The moon reaches at the highest in another hour later. Usually, Micah wouldn’t feel as drained even at this time from insomnia, although after a long day and the deep comfort xe feels from being with Timothy, the lulling sense of serenity brings xem to a sleepy state, not realizing that xyr arm is slowly meeting against Timothy’s side. Micah blinks tiredly at the warm contact and finds xe’s touching him. Part of xem should be alarmed, knowing how restless Timothy can be with physical contacts, but the exhaustion is falling deeper in xem to be as responsive.
“S-sorry, Timostar,” Micah mumbles, yawning. Xe plans to move away from Timothy to respect his space, but xe realizes how deeply touch starved xe is when xyr heart sinks at the thought of moving. Micah glances up at Timothy, xyr gaze all gentle. “Um, actually, is it okay if I can lean on you for a bit before we call it for the night?” xe asks quietly, fiddling with xyr hands, “From tonight, you just make me feel very safe and comfy...” It is a soft given honesty that makes Micah see just how much Timothy matters to xem. ( He is the stars that the moon cares and cherishes forever. )
@solarisgod || and thus i die (´•̥̥̥ ‸ •̥̥̥`✿)
Listen, folks . . . Micah's not the only one still reeling after an unexpected compliment.
Big shocker, right? You tell a guy he looks nice, great. You tell him his smile is . . . what was it, lovely—? Awesome. You tell that same guy already down for the count from the positive attention not to lose his light, because apparently it fits him . . . for some freakin' reason? Yeah, okay: Timothy didn't take Micah for a violent type, but he was really beginning to think they were doing their best to destroy him. In, like . . . a weirdly . . . good way? Does that make sen— No, it probably doesn't. Whatevs. The real point here is that at least both of them are dealing with some semblance of a recovery period after that, not that Timothy really understands why Micah needs it.
Didn't most people tell them things like that? He had a hard time believing he was anywhere near the first, and if he was, he wanted to very badly grab everyone who ever interacted with Micah by the shoulders and just shake them like Are you blind?! (Unless they . . . literally were blind, and then, hey, okay, free pass, but—)
They were silent after some time, still keeping their eyes on the sky, on the stars winking almost cheekily down at them. Timmy hadn't been oblivious to the gradual weight falling against him, starting with that tiny brush of an arm that solidified and became heavier as Micah sunk further down. He's not bothered. Not even slightly. If he was asked to describe the feeling, he'd not really know the right word, but honestly . . . It's nice. It's nice that they trust him enough to let their guard down, to let themselves relax without any reservations, and Timothy decides somewhere in there to remain as still as possible: to not disturb them.
Until, ya know, they catch themselves like some idiot falling asleep on the job—or in a less safe environment—and quickly apologize—
“Ah-tut-tut—!” he interrupts their drowsy words in the space of that breath, no hesitation. “Hey, no, you don't . . . have anything to be sorry about. What are you—? No, it's cool. I mean, it's—” Tim picks up on the slurred speech, on the confession of what his presence does for them. Which, okay, yeah, he probably could have connected those dots himself, but actually hearing them say it is . . . yeah, we're just gonna keep going with that “nice.”
He shuffles, finally. Now that they're awake enough he won't fully bother them. Timothy adjusts his position equally for his own comfort and theirs, moving just slightly enough that his arm is now behind Micah, and their weight can fall against his side. “Sure, I . . . Yeah.” He pauses, thoughtful, then: “Guess you could say we have that in common. I'm glad.”

Manhattan on the rocks 🥃
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: This is dedicated to a good friend of mine. She’s not on tumblr. But she is attracted to Dabi. I tried to make it as ‘nice’ as possible, but I assumed Dabi would be the one with the reins. RATED XXX, NSFW, 18+ ONLY
Pairing: Dabi x Fem!Reader (she/her)
Featuring: League of Villains
Word Count: 2.4k
Synopsis: Before the LOV found their hideout, you used to work there. It was full of life, but then Dabi entered the bar and changed your life.
Quirk: Telekinesis. The ability to lift anything up to 300 lbs (136 kg)
Warnings: Smut, orgasm denial, fingering, smacking, blow job, cock worshiping, teasing, choking
I was a bartender working my shift in Kamino Ward. It was a lively town full of lights and life. Tourists would often come by. The other bartender, Kenji, I worked with has a quirk to speak all languages to communicate with the guests out of town. A lot of people thought I was a lazy bartender, but I would use my telekinetic quirk to make drinks effectively, accurately, and full of spirit.
I was on my closing shift and I locked the door. With overconfidence, I took the short way home to my apartment through an alleyway. I’m pretty sure that if I encounter a villain that I can beat them. I’m not a hero, but I can defend myself. I think. When I walked down, I heard echoes of raindrops and then faint footsteps behind me, following me. I turn around and no one was to be found. I look up the walls. Nothing. When I turn back around, I was face to face with a man with hands all over his body. His palms went around my arms with four fingers.
“Well hello there,” he said, “You know you probably shouldn’t go this way. There is a lot of danger.”
“I appreciate the warning, but I live this way,” I continued.
“I don’t think you understand,” he went on, “Once all my fingers touch your skin, you will merely turn to dust. So let me tell you again. Don’t take another step this way, otherwise my friends and I have plans for you.”
The League of Villains surrounded me, all poking at me with their quirk. “Tell us when, Shigaraki. I think she would be a great friend,” a high school girl with blonde hair said holding a syringe.
There was no way that I was going to win this fight, but what are they hiding from me? Is something happening down this alleyway where I can’t even access my apartment this route? I didn’t want to get involved, but my curiosity was still sparked. “Okay, I’ll go,” I said.
“There’s a good girl. Now run along,” Shigaraki said. He let go of me and when I started to walk, the girl tried to stab me with her syringe. When I dodged, I used my quirk to hold one of his members from his neck against the brick wall. He was a lengthy man with a scarred-up face, staples on his ears, eyes, chin, and face with dark hair. He begins to laugh.
“And to think you were a hero. I don’t know, this one seems more like a villain to me,” he said with a smirk. The girl injects me with her syringe, and I drop the stapled man. I dodge before she plunged for my blood and ran the other way.
“A drop. That’s all I need,” Toga said looking at her syringe.
The next day, I had off. I was just exhausted from the closing shift. I slept in, watched some shows, and read. It started to rain. I just looked out the window with all the bright lights. It was soothing. I cuddled my cat as I napped on and off throughout the day.
...................................................................................
I arrive for my long double shift at the bar. No one would make eye contact with me. “Hey,” I said to Kenji. “Hey, it’s nice to know you can speak in complete sentences,” he scoffed. I immediately got confused.
“What are you talking about,” I asked. The owner called me into his office. Usually when someone gets called in the office, it’s bad, but I don’t remember doing anything that horrible. I sat down in the chair across from him.
“(Y/N), after last night, I was really disappointed in you, but since you work hard and you’re one of my good employees, I will give you a warning,” he said professionally.
“Last night? I was at home all day,” I said.
“I’m sure that’s all you remember,” he said concerned. He showed me camera footage from the bar. The camera footage showed that I was drunk all over the bar flirting with guests and being obnoxious.
“Sir, I was at home all day. That was not me. Someone must have had a quirk—”
“Enough,” he cut me off. “This is a warning. The next warning, I have to let you go.”
I bowed my head and exited his office. Kenji looked at me to know what happened. “Kenji, someone used their quirk to look like me. I can assure you; I was at home.” He shook his head, but I know he wanted to believe me. “(Y/N),” he began, “Just out of all the bars, you or they had to pick this one? I believe you, but I’m not saving your butt next time.” We laughed as we continued the shift.
Kenji said goodbye as the crowd dies down. I only had one guest and they closed their check. So I was at the bar by myself.
I finished cleaning the bar at close and put on my jacket. A guest barges in the back door and locks it behind him.  “Are you open,” he asks. He revealed his face to be the stapled man that I encountered in the alleyway. He didn’t seem like he recognized me, so I tried to stay as calm as possible.
I calmly take off my jacket and offer him a seat at the bar top. “You have cameras,” he pointed out.  I created a makeshift table and chair in storage. He sits down and orders a Manhattan. I make the drink for him with my quirk. He lights a cigarette with his blue flame. I knew my boss would kill me if I let someone smoke inside his place, but I knew he would understand if he saw that there was a villain here. Where are the heroes?
I set the drink in front of him. He chugs it and continues to take drags out of his cigarette. “Long day,” I asked him. He smirks and chuckles. “Yeah, I guess you could say that. May I have another, please?” I make him another Manhattan.
“Your quirk. How do you do that,” he asks.
“I use my thoughts to control what I would like to lift. I can lift up to a high weight.”
“How about a cruise ship,” he asked.
“Maybe not.”
He laughs. “I go by Dabi. It’s nice to see there are some cordial people in this world.”
I nod as he finishes his second drink. I go back to the bar to clean up. Storage was hidden by a curtain for some citrus. I come back to him still there with an empty glass and his burnt-out cigarette. “Care for another,” I asked.
“No thank you, uh—”
“(Y/N),” I finished.
He nodded and paid for his drinks. I go back to the bartop and wait until he leaves. He just wanted to destress. Am I now responsible if he kills someone tonight? Am I going to witness him killing someone? I take a peek through the curtain and he is gone. I take a sigh of relief and went back into storage, but then I am pushed up against a wall by my neck. By Dabi. I panic and start to breathe heavy.
“I remember you. You were the one that choked me in the alleyway. Well now that I see you up close, you are stunning. I just wish the world can see how beautiful you are,” he said. His hands light up with blue flames. Is going to kill me?
“I—I’m not afraid to die,” the words escaped my mouth as I gasp for air. “You may be a villain, but there is so much more to people. They have stories that can be similar to yours. We’re not all perfect, but we strive to be.”
He tied my hands to an upper shelf. He laughed. “The people who think they are perfect deserve a special spot in hell. In a way, we are pretty similar. I’m not afraid to die. I just see others to die as an incentive. There’s a lot of wanna-be heroes. My job is to weed out the weak. I like a challenge.”
I use my quirk to raise the objects around me as weapons against him as I am restrained.
“I’ll admit, your quirk is cool, but I won’t use mine on you.” He puts out his blue flames and lifts my shirt and bra up. He starts lightly twisting my nipples. “This is what I really came here for.”
I tilt my head back as he moves his hands down my torso, to my waist, down to my clit. “What a pretty flower,” he said, smiling. He grabs my face and forces his face into mine. He’s scarred tissue was rough, but there was something sweet about his touch. He was forceful, yet gentle at the same time. I felt comfortable as he was touching me. Why? He’s a villain, against anything that was good.
As I ease into his touch, I slowly drop the objects. He pulls away from my face. He smirks as he grabs my neck and I crack a smile back. “You’re a freak. Who would smile with someone choking them? A villain, maybe. Or a slut,” he said.
He slides down his jeans to reveal his throbbing cock. Spun me around with my hands still restrained and slid down my skirt. “You’re mine tonight,” he whispered into my ear as he injects two fingers into me. I tilt back my head with pleasure. Every breath I took paraded in ecstasy.
“Fuck, you’re so tight,” he said. I started to breathe heavier and moan into his hands. He grabbed my hair to intensify his domination. He pumps his fingers at a faster pace. “I’m—I’m gonna,” I said.
He pulls his fingers out of me, turns me around, and slides up my skirt. “No,” he said, “Bad girls don’t cum.” He takes my restrained hands off the shelf and throws me to the ground. “Suck it,” he said softly. I begin to tease the tip and bottom of his shaft. As I look up, he has a permanent smirk on his face. “You are bad,” he said. He smacked my face and forced my head, taking him all in. I choked as he held my head. “This is how you choke someone properly. You look so beautiful drooling all over me,” he said. Thrusting faster, he tilted his head up in pleasure as he held my face to the bottom. “Fuck,” he pulsed in my mouth, his taste hitting the back of my throat. He slowly pulls out of my mouth, helps me up, and undid the restraints on my hands.
“Hello, anyone there,” a booming voice came from the front door. The voice sounded loud and bold. Must be a hero. Dabi quickly gets dressed and takes my face close to his and whispers, “I’m not here”. He kissed me softly, helped clean up my makeup, and pushed me out to open the door.
“Good evening, miss. I heard there were villains in the area, is there anything that you have seen that could help me,” the hero said entering the bar. Would there be a fight in the bar if I said yes? Would the owner blame me for everything? I was so conflicted on what to tell the hero. I had thoughts of how good Dabi would feel inside me.
“No, sir,” I replied to the hero, “I was just about to close shop.”
“Very well, citizen. Keep your eyes peeled,” he said as he left. Some bar stools fell over when he left. I went over to the door and locked it.
“Heroes. It’s always about them--” Dabi said coming out of the storage room.
“Stay in there to avoid the cameras. I can’t believe I lied to a hero to save you,” I said regretfully.
“Like I said, I’m not afraid to die. But you were a good girl, looking after me. Come here,” he said deep and slow. I followed his request. He cupped my face, kissed me, and picked me up from my butt onto a table. I felt a pool inside me as his kisses deepened. He slides down my skirt and feels my damp clit. “You’ve been thinking about me,” he smirked flicking my flower. He takes off his pants, revealing himself, and teases his tip against my entrance. I tilt my head back with pleasure. I slowly adjusted to his size when he pumped in and out me. I dug my nails into his back and ran my fingers through his hair. He kept hitting the spot perfectly and I couldn’t control myself. “Cum for me,” Dabi said, between breaths. My thighs twitch around his waist as he kept going. I exploded with fireworks, hitting the spot as he watched me, and felt my walls clamp against him. He pulled out, but I could still feel him. He watched me twitch and approached my face. He smiled a little and pecked me on the lips.
“Is there anything else I can do for you,” he said softly.
“Just stay out of trouble,” I smirked. Dabi helped me clean up and straighten out before he left. He used his quirk to light some tables on fire. “What are you doing,” I yelled.
“I’m covering for you,” he said. He stopped in his tracks before he exited out the front door.
“Who knows, maybe you’ll join me. See you on the other side,” he said and disappeared without a trace.
The owner came in the next day panicking about his bar catching fire. “What happened, (Y/N)? Are you alright,” he cried. The police and firefighters surrounded the bar. “I saw on the cameras that a hero came in, asked (Y/N) if there was a villain, then the villain showed up and destroyed the bar,” the owner told police. The hero was also there. “I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you,” the hero said. The police brought me in for questioning. I lied about his description. I lied to police that I didn’t know anything.
After a few weeks, the owner sold the bar to someone who remained anonymous. I snuck into the bar. The tables were removed. It was just the bar stools and booths. A warp guy in a suit was at the bar, his name tag said Kurogiri. “Ah (Y/N), I heard your curiosity would be intrigued.” Dabi comes out from the shadows.
“Are you ready to join the League of Villains?”

I write sometimes so here's something I wrote like... really quickly
I needed a bit of characterisation for Zero, mostly.
I'll probably make this into a small collection that I'll probably call, surprise surprise, Silver and Gold.
Title: Napalm Skies
Words: 884
Characters: Zero, Chamber
Summary: While on a business venture in Kazakhstan, Zero is suddenly rung up by an Unknow Caller ID. While she'd usually ignore private numbers, her guts tell her she might have an old friend at the other side of the line.
The phone went over and she immediately knew who her unknown caller was.
Once, Twice-
Before the third ring, she snatched the device off her desk and answered. No greeting, just a single sentence spoken with a devilish tinge. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
He was ready to retaliate to her cocky address when his words were completely overshadowed by an ear deafening noise that came from his speaker all of a sudden.
“Ah, sorry. Did you say something?”
“I’m almost afraid to ask but what was that loud noise just now?” He asked, evoking a dark chuckle from the other side of the line.
“I’m glad you asked.” She started, pausing before she finally revealed what was going on in the background. The darkness in her voice quickly made room for a more lighthearted tone. “We’re showcasing a prototype ALCM to the Russians.”
A new type of missile, huh? And to the Russians, too? His investors weren’t going to like the sound of that. That woman really knew how to get in the way of things. He groaned a little, moving his fingers underneath his glasses to pinch the bridge of his nose.
“I’m not even surprised. Let me guess, voice control?” His sardonic reaction made her roll her eyes so far back that she could swear she was seeing stars. She wouldn’t let his tone ruin her good mood.
“Almost right. You know how modern cruise missiles are self-navigating to a good extent. Well, they’re quite accurate even without my improvements but-”
“Regina, okay, I get it.” He stated, stopping her from continuing her explanation. “As much as I enjoy hearing your excitement about your newest toy, now is not the time. Let’s keep it brief today.” His voice switched from playful to serious and she could tell something was going on. Unfortunately, as much as she wanted to ignore it, his snide, condescending remark didn’t go unnoticed.
He was probably just upset to hear about her negotiations with the Russians as his investors were mostly based in the US.
Well, that was his problem, not hers.
They were business partners but… It’s not as if she had to play by his rules all the time. The Russians were simply paying her better. She thought to herself, restlessly tapping the holoboard in her hand with the tips of her fingers. Her patience with his tiptoeing was quickly running out, especially while she was in the middle of a business deal.
“You’re the one who asked. If you’re in such a hurry, I suggest you choose your words more carefully next time, Vincent.” Regina cooed in response, her threat hidden under an overly sweet, syrupy tone. “Now, be a dear and tell me your true intentions or I’m hanging up on you right now.”
A soft sigh passed through the speaker. A sigh of defeat, Regina retconned. Or was it a sigh of disappointment. Either way, he was finally ready to speak. “We need to meet as soon as possible. I’ll send you the coordinates.”
And just like that, the coordinates were sent to her by a cryptic message from an unknown number.
So mysterious, she laughed, tapping and swiping a few times to open his message as well as a map and her browser.
The coordinates he sent lead her to a seemingly desolate place in the south of the United States. After checking the surrounding area on the satellite map for a bit, she quickly found a point of interest. And with almost certainty, she could tell this place had a main role in whatever play Vincent was orchestrating behind her back.
Only time would tell but she couldn’t help but be interested in whatever he wanted to ask her. It was very unusual to ask her to get out of her way to meet him and he knew she wouldn’t do it for free. So, that begged the question? What was really going on, hm?
Regina reopened the missile’s manual override panel on her holopad and closed the other tabs with a swift flick of her index finger, saving them for later.
She needed some privacy first.
With a click of her tongue, she took to the phone again. “You ask too much of me.” She said followed by an exaggerated huff. “ I’m in Kazakhstan for business right now so travelling all the way to you is going to take me at least a day or two.”
“That’s fine. I can wait but we don’t have much time. Make sure to come over as soon as possible.” He stated. His voice serious and without play or tease. So much so, it sent a shiver down her spine. Ah, she could get used to this.
With a satisfied smile, Regina leaned back in her chair. A soft hum left her before she spoke her final words. “I’d hope you have something special prepared for me because I don’t clear my schedule for just anyone. I like you, Vincent, so don’t disappoint me.” And with that, she hung up the phone.
After turning her palm up to look at the time on her watch, she turned her chair around to stare through the large window column behind her.
Almost sunset.
Good, she decided.
There was much to go over today.

danny phantom season 2, eps 1-5 thoughts! opening the new season with episodes like these kinda blew me away. we had multiple serious episodes INCLUDING a two parter!! also, valerie :)
see prev episode thoughts in this tag <3
-I don't know what I expected s2 to open with. but danny portal incident in more detail was not it. (also, I hate to break it to you, sam, but danny's parent's bigass ghost hunting rv def chugs more gas than those vehicles, lmao. unless it runs on ectoplasm or something...)
-WHY WAS DESIREE IN THE SEWER? HAVING TEA WITH IT DOWN THERE?? Her making the giant cow come alive is a boss move, we've almost had all of my fav animals as ghosts now <3 I also don't like how sam was expecting danny to just, haunt the place so the cars wouldn't get sold? I KNOWWW I know she's 14 (and I had a very annoying phase like this, I think I mentioned in a previous post, I GET IT) but they're HIS powers, and messing with (1) dealership will not really put a dent in sales overall because they can just move the cars to another sales lot, and it certainly wont change the industry anyway, it's more of a minor annoyance for (1) location. Also, usually people who work at car sales places work on commission, so if they dont make a sale, they don't have money to pay bills, or eat. sam baby if u wanna be an activist you need to like, actually look into these things. with as much money as her parents have, she could be doing a lot..more useful things for causes she cares about? it's frustrating to see someone with resources who doesn't know how to use them. but shes 14 so again. cannot be really upset :/
Tumblr media
-IS THIS A PREDATOR VS TERMINATOR VS FREDDY KRUEGER MOVIE BUT THEYRE ALL WOMEN?? you know, sam is so right to be excited about this. /I/ want to see this movie. that rules
-paulina inviting danny and friends to her quinceañera, aw! even if it is just to get phantom to show up :') and there'll be a meteor shower, and we KNOW danny wants to be an astronaut!! there's not a meteor shower every night!! the tickets are non-refundable, but..she's rich? like. gotta agree with danny, they never get invited!! I KNOW it's the principle of keeping promises, but if she was that upset, she should've said something. directly. I hated how she was like, passive aggressive about it through the episode, like you SAID IT WAS FINE, THAT YOU'D GO TO THE PARTY TOO. MOVIES SHOW FOR A FEW WEEKS IN THEATERS. IF YOU HAD A REAL PROBLEM YOU NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT. WE'VE HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, SAM. YOUR FRIENDS. ARE NOT. MIND READERS.
-MR. LANCER GOING AFTER THE GHOST WITH THE FIRE EXTINGISHER LMAO
Tumblr media
-this outfit is everything . anytime the show does an over the top cutesty pink outfit i WANT IT. it looks like shit I wear JKASDHF I HAVE a bow like that and a pink sweater. I need leg warmers </3
-SAMS GOTTA RE-HALF-KILL HIM??? thats fucked up. but also, he finally got his logo!! it took until s2!!! this episode was lowkey very fucked and I felt like it glossed over a lot. does sam have guilt about like. kinda KILLING HIM?? I know, he also agreed and walked into the portal. but. she made the choice to redo it SO quickly (even if it was because someone had to beat desiree) and danny, during their fight, brought up a lot of stuff sam's done in the past, meaning he was holding onto those memories and resentment was building. (I KEEP SAYING HE LOWKEY NEEDS THERAPY, BUT I THINK MOST EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW KINDA DOES) which...is a red flag? and then they didnt even GO to the party URGH I know she tried to make up for it, but it really felt like Sam fucked up and barely faced any consequences and got everything she wanted in the end. I KNOW it's a kids show obv they aren't going to go too in depth, and she undid the damage, kinda, but...I DUNNO how to articulate it but it rubbed me the wrong way.
-but on a note about desiree, her powers of wishes were STRONG ENOUGH TO ERASE NOT JUST THEIR MEMORIES, BUT DANNY'S POWERS?! fuck, if I was danny I'd be like, trying to make friends with her. I know they always have horrible side effects as most genie-granted wishes do, but...c'mon, I'd at least TRY to be like 'I wish no ghosts would hurt anyone in my town' or 'I wish vlad would lose his ghost powers forever no matter What and also forget about my mom' LIKE. SHIT DESIREE IS SO POWERFUL. rewriting reality powerful, basically!! appreciate her. respect her.
-aww, sam helping tucker pass the nurse's office so he wouldn't see because he's afraid of medical stuff? very sweet. I also don't like medical stuff, I've gotten a lot better at handling it tho. but seeing blood and needles still makes me feel lightheaded x_x
-FOLEY, BY TUCKER FOLEY. I want to make my own perfume, that's so cool. even if his first attempt isn't good, he's pretty consistently shown to have an inventor/entrepreneur streak in the show, so like. I can see him inventing or making something (or several somethings) that make him $$$ when he grows up :) proud of my creative son
-I know the 'creepy abandoned hospital on the edge of town' is a joke and the creepy hospital trope is so Worn Out, but in my town we actually DO have a hospital like that! my dad was born in it, but its not in use and hasn't been for, like, 20 years! it needs to be torn down but I think the city doesn't wanna pay the money. the inside is horrible, spray painted and broken glass and shit everywhere. but there's still like, rusty equipment and fucking DOLLS all over the place. the cops drive by it pretty frequently to make sure no one is like, breaking in. (because of water damage, some of the areas really aren't safe. also, asbestos, but people still go in anyway) but also, some of my town was used in a filming for a stephen king show. So it's lowkey spooky all over. just a fun personal tidbit :) to lead into saying, any hospital abandoned for any period of time is NOT safe to quarantine these kids in JKSAHDKF like I KNOW it's a ghost trying to do this, but NONE of these parents are even like, 'well, why dont we keep them in the regular, working hospital'....YIKES. this hospital looks pretty accurate to the one in town. grungy and spooky.
-fentons are tax evaders confirmed by jack's fear of being audited, lol no one is surprised
-ghost sickness via ghost bugs. horrifying concept. I actually expected it to be a new villain, not dr. spectra again! this is a very elaborate scheme. her new form rules, love the new costume. the way none of the bg kids seem to recognize her as their old school councilor. did we just forget about that completely?
-dash watching romance movies in the fucked up ghost hospital. same.
-'oh please, you're ghosts, do you have any idea what YOU smell like?' no, tucker, what DO ghosts smell like? I genuinely didn't know they would even have a smell, I actually want to know now.
-it feels like a while since we've seen jazz!! i was happy to see her again, even if she was a head in a jar for most the episode. I want another jazz-focused ep!!
-we finally see danny doing space-related stuff!! him and his friends stargazing to open ep 3 of s2. cute :) until, GHOST PIRATES!!!!! ...ghost pirate captain is a small child?? VOICED BY TAYLOR LAUTNER???
-oh, the easy listening is ember's song instrumental slowed. 'vapor drone' THEY VAPORWAVED HER!!! ember in a pirate outfit tho >>>>. and the cruise being called m.bersback JKASDHJK. ember adopting a little pirate brother is also pretty cute. concerning this teen and little kid have such bad opinions of adults, like, who hurt you?? (how did you DIE ALSO?? im always lowkey curious about that. we know desiree died at an old age, but her ghost form is young, probably mid-20s, so I wonder how that sort of thing works...its a more mental thing, isn't it?) but ghost team-ups are always cool to see, even if ember bailed after danny took her guitar. I guess she probably thinks youngblood can handle it (which, he's been owning danny this far in the ep, so...fair)
-tucker got that sponsorship from nasty burger for their radio!!! again, opportunistic money maker king, love to see it!!!
-danny taking control of the kids SO FAST. he makes a pretty great leader. no one is surprised, im pretty sure I said I think he's the most mature of the trio, once again, correct, because he's taken on so much responsibility already. all the teens suiting up in the jumpsuits to go save the adults and taking the ship over with a BLIMP. OKAY LETS GO. this feels like it should be a mid finale or straight up finale.
-...speaking of finales. why is ep 4-5 of s2 combined into a 50 minute episode? I havent even clicked play and im concerned. weird placement, like, this season JUST started and we're getting a two parter? okay...why are the episodes placed like this? why not put this at episode 10 or something, for a mid-season thing?
Tumblr media
-this is also a cute dress. possibly my fav dress so far. can her parents give ME cute dresses, I'LL wear them.
-it turns out the castle fright knight was in is called pariah's keep and there's something worse than fright knight in there! lovely! fuck off vlad wtf are you doing <3 your hubris <3 is going to literally get you killed <3 'ring of rage' and 'crown of fire' are great names tho. ...vlad turning into a super polite guy when he was scared of mr. pariah was hilarious. and fright knight doing the same...I mean, it makes sense, he's a knight, he serves a king? happy to see fright knight again either way :) vlad telling him to call him tho, lmfao. you WISH HE WOULD. (I wish hed call me, too. 😔)
-so...jack being genuinely concerned about vlad...maddie really didn't tell him what happened at the cabin, did she. damn. if I was her id immediately come home and be like 'YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS SHITTTT THIS CREEPY GUY--' like, I feel like that stuff you need to tell your partner!!! I know she didnt want Jack to think she was an irresponsible parent putting danny in danger at that time, but STILLLL. maddie spilling boiling tea on him. get his ass. how is jack this oblivious to his wife's discomfort with vlad!! ughhh
-fenton wipe (tm). trademarked toilet paper.
-DANNY AND VALERIE BEING FRIENDS??? :D that was a cute moment. 'hey val <3' and 'if you like him like him, make a move, or someone else will ;)' at sam...damn!! I love her. valerie go for it girl!!! I hate how sam and tucker treat val also, like I GET IT YOURE PROTECTIVE AND DONT TRUST but if anything him befriending valerie will help when she finds out or he tells her like I feel like she'll be more understanding that they think! ALSO I feel like her reason for not liking ghosts is valid, like you haven't really explained the full story to her anyway! she doesn't seem to have any other friends after being booted from the a-listers so im like :( but seeing them kick butt together again was nice <3
-the ghosts all RUNNING FROM PARIAH DARK IS NOT GOOD, I thought he sent them to attack or something, but no. why doesn't someone just tell desiree 'hey i wish pariah dark would die' lol. once again I think she can solve every problem <3 but seeing all the enemies in one place, being civil and hiding together? love it.
-you just know danny's gonna have to clean up vlad's stupid mess. also, jack being willing to put on the ectoskeleton pants to help maddie, as soon as vlad heard it could kill him, he suggested jack do it instead of helping maddie himself? this is why jack got the girl, my man.
-ghost skeletons. how do you end up as a skeleton ghost in your afterlife instead of a humanoid like most the ones we've seen? lmao
-the ghosts just making new homes in various stores. I'd totally be setting up in an expensive clothing store if I was a ghost.
-valerie's dad is possibly the most useful adult so far, with that ghost shield expansion!!! and valerie saving vlad and danny, even tho shes been thru it already, shes still so good!!! this family rules.
Tumblr media
-danny: *gently caresses valerie* :)
-*then he immediately TELLS HER DAD ON HER. and his first response is 'are you okay?' :'( such a good dad...
-*me every time fright knight breathes* youre doing SO great sweetie :)
-the fenton suit thing is so silly looking. does anyone take this thing seriously
-ALL THE GHOSTS FIGHTING WITH DANNY <3 AAAAA. and the fact that pariah isn't perma-defeated, but just locked away again. yikes. he'll probably get out again, won't he? it wasn't too clear, but if vlad DID make a pact with fright knight, I am rabid. I will beat vlad to death with the fenton bat (tm). YOU DONT DESERVE A COOL KNIGHT.
-valerie being direct with sam and challenging her? kinda love that, even tho I normally don't like 'catfight' type situations. because sam has been very passive aggressive about it which is annoying. valerie knows wtf she wants and wasn't even embarrassed to tell sam, but she did tell her, giving sam time to make her own move! and sam denied it and got embarrassed/mad! and sam did have a chance when danny was about to go off and fight, and she hesitated and didn't tell him. I feel like she's hesitating because they're friends and it might make it weird between the trio (poor tucker would be third-wheeling) but if u snooze u lose, u gotta GO after what u WANT girl. smh this is a No Tsundere Zone. 😤

Anyone who got up and at em’ on the first day of vacation had something to prove, and you hated them. You had nothing to prove, so you kept your ass in your room and utilized the “to cabin” service. You don’t know if it was the sound of the waves from the balcony, the lull of the ship as it pushed through the water, you being physically exhausted, or if it was your emotional exhaustion that did you in. Whatever it was, you slept until it was damn near dinner time. Even then, leaving your room was not an option.
So you called for a meal to be brought to you, snuggled into the covers, and watched the available tv channels. Not wanting to watch any movies, you decided on a channel that seemed to be a mix of the animal planet, discovery channel, and a survivalist’s dream. The program that was on was something about figuring out the difference between good food and bad food. Things like this you found interesting and always watched. It wasn’t that you planned on ever needing the information but why the hell wouldn’t you be prepared for a never possibility.
When the food arrived, you were well into another program about common dangers on Caribbean islands that tourists would never know. Once you accepted the three reusable food bags, you buried yourself right back into the bed and surrounded yourself with everything you’d requested. You bet whoever prepared it thought it was for at least three people, but nope it was all yours. Vacation was about overindulging, right?
A few hours later, your phone rang. Knowing your sister’s ringtone, you answered without looking at the ID.
“You know better than not to send a message to mom before you disappear, Lulu.”
“Disappear? Lali, I am on a huge ass ship. Where am I disappearing to?”
“You know what I mean. You know if she hasn’t heard from you, then that’s just as good as disappearing,” Atali countered.
Sighing, you rubbed your forehead. Your mother was a bit much sometimes.
 “I slept in.”
 “All day?”
 “All day,” you repeated.
 “Alone?”
Kissing your teeth, you rolled your eyes and leaned back on the headboard.
“Lali, you do know it’s me you’re talking to, right?”
Atali giggled. “It is a vacation; excuse me for thinking you’d live a little.”
“There is living a little and living recklessly,” you dryly responded.
“Recklessly? Lulu, you’re the one who is sleeping with--.”
You loudly cleared your throat, interrupting what you knew she was going to say. Atali was always good for bringing up everything you wanted to forget.
 “Jeez, Atali.”
 “Sorry, sorry.”
You put another piece of cake into your mouth and moaned, savoring the strawberry and the smoothness of the cheesecake. You bit your bottom lip, and for some reason, your mind ran to the stranger you still had yet to get the name of.
 “Met anyone on board?”
“Lali, I didn’t come here to meet anyone.”
“I know, but you still could have—in passing.”
You sighed and went over the details of his face. You really didn’t like men with that much facial hair, but it fit him well and easily made him look younger than he quite possibly was.
 “What’s his name?”
“I don’t know his name, and he doesn’t matter. I did meet a woman.”
“Woman? You’ve been gone a day and already experimenting?”
You smiled and shook your head. “Shut up. Listen, she’s really cool. Her stories are classic, and she does her makeup like a goddess. You would like her, Lali.”
“She’s an older woman, isn’t she?”
 “Yeah, so what?”
“You always attract these old-young souls.”
The two of you giggled together, but it went on for longer than just a few seconds. When you sighed out and leaned back against the headboard, you again thought of him.
 “What’s your first port?”
“Dominican Republic, then Turks & Caicos, the British Virgin Islands after that then Aruba and Jamaica.”
“Jeez, you’re living life,” Atali commented.
“You have no idea. You should see this ship. They went all out times two with it. It’s just absolute luxury everywhere. I said pick me a ship. I didn’t say give me the Cleopatra treatment.”
“You knew what you were getting into when you asked me to do it,” Atali replied. “By the way, isn’t BVI and Turks and Caicos pretty close to Bermuda?”
Taking a moment to think about it, you responded, “Yeah. So?”
 “So? Lulu, Bermuda,” Atali repeated.
When you didn’t speak immediately, she continued. “The Bermuda Triangle, dummy.”
Kissing your teeth, you rolled your eyes, “Oh god, you cannot be serious.”
“I am. Have you never heard that ships get lost and disappear in that area?”
“Lali, I’m sure there is a scientific explanation, and I am also sure that no one would charter a course near somewhere that they’d get lost, especially with hundreds of passengers,” you finished, confidant in your response.
The two of you talked for almost an hour before she was urging you to get out of your room and go to one of the clubs on the ship. You protested, but you knew she would not shut up about it, so you gave in though you had no interest in actually going. You spent the next hour going back and forth with your options. Most of you wanted to stay in bed or sit on the balcony and just get lost in the view, while the other knew that you’d only think of Javii if you did that.
Following a shower, you scanned your clothes. Once you found a cute dress, then applied a lite layer of makeup and did your hair, choosing to leave it down rather than putting it in a cute bun. Five or ten minutes later, you were standing in front of the entrance to one of the clubs—Jewel. The music from inside was lively, and you could imagine the number of young bodies pressing against each other, seeking a cheap thrill. Glancing from left to right, you decided to bite the bullet.
Tumblr media
As soon as you stepped inside, you didn’t feel like you were on a ship in the middle of the ocean. It felt like it was a well established nightclub on solid ground. Whoever the DJ was, they were doing their thing, and it was evident from the bodies that littered the floor. It looked like this was where the parents came when their kids were tucked away in bed cuddling Tiana and Jasmine close. You walked through the crowds and saw plenty of couples making out and sharing drinks. Never again would you think to sleep on a Disney cruise. You thought it would be a chill time, but damn this was like parents gone wild.
After a few minutes of walking around and scoping things out, you found a place at one of the three bars.
 “First Disney cruise?”
Snapping your head around, you looked at a smiling bartender with long hair that was piled on top of his head in a neat man bun.
 “That obvious?”
“Let me guess, you expected tame, princess sing-a-longs, virgin pina coladas, and plenty of mickey mouse.”
The look on your face must have given you away because he was laughing a few seconds after he said it. You snorted and shook your head as you rearranged your dress and recrossed your legs.
 “Fine, you got me.”
“It’s okay. I get how you’d think it was a tame little adventure. Why do you think we get so many reservations?”
“I thought it was for the kids,” you blurted out. It was his turn to laugh.
“Silly rabbit, while Disney is for kids, what happens after those kids lay their pretty little heads is a whole other story.”
Glancing around once more, you made a mental note never to make the mistake again. Disney cruises were probably as raunchy as Carnival or those geared toward singles. At that thought, you began to wonder how many swingers were on board, and if this was a swinger’s playground.
 “What can I get you?”
“Something strong so my innocent mind can adjust.”
The bartender chuckled to himself as he walked around, preparing your drink. You bopped to the music and looked around again. Now it made sense to you when the mom of two who was preggo with her third said these cruises always gave her just what she needed. You bet they did—three fucking kids. Your mind was blown.
When the bartender slid your drink to you, he smiled and slipped away to serve the others. That was when you turned back around to people watch. There was no way you were going to dance with any of them. after a few sips of your drink, you saw him across the way. He was sitting at one of the other bars watching the dancefloor as you were. His hat was gone, and it showed you that his hair was long. The lights were too dim to make out much else, but what you couldn’t make out, you quickly filled in from your other encounter.
Before you realized your glass was empty, your eyes met and lingered on each other for several long moments. The only reason you looked away was because of the passing people who got in the way. When you looked back, his eyes weren’t on yours anymore, they were looking lower, but it was unclear if he was looking at you or someone on the dancefloor. Shaking it off, you spun around and requested another drink.
As you waited, you scrolled through your phone and did your best to fight the urge to check his social media. Javii wasn’t huge on social media. He preferred to have his team handle his brand's social side, but he did have a secret one that not many knew about. There he posted things that interested him, showed his lifestyle and his passions. It was also where he posted his “thirst traps.” You knew that if you went on, you’d find one or two, and you knew the caption was going to be code for you. You doubted you were mentally prepared enough for that psychological minefield.
“What can I get you, sir?”
 “Another beer, please.”
Tumblr media
The deep voice beside you had your finger pausing before you tapped the circle with Javii’s picture that indicated he’d made a new story. When you looked next to you there, he was again. The dim and colored lights in the room gave you a new appreciation of his eyes. It was at this moment you knew he got a lot of attention from women. With eyes like those, how could he not? He looked at you and smiled, and that sold it for you. His teeth were perfect, and though his smile made the wrinkles at the sides of his eyes more prominent, it also made his face light up. He looked like a kind man--a gentle one perhaps.
“Either you’re following me around, or we’d call this fate.”
You couldn’t help but smile. The cocky on him was so strong. It was a familiar cocky.
“Or you’re following me around. You’re the one who bumped into me twice,” you countered.
“Eh, I was the one doing the catching, so it’s more feasible that you’re following me.”
He wore a soft grin, one that you mirrored.
“Maybe if you weren’t like a brick wall, you wouldn’t have to catch me.”
“I’m not complaining,” he responded. You stared at him and quickly got his meaning. Again, you couldn’t help but smile. Not only was he cocky, but he was charming, you thought.
You finished your drink with one raise of your hand. When you lowered your glass, you watched as he raked his fingers through his hair, bringing it full out of his face. It was then you recognized him.
 “Oh my god.”
 “What?”
“Now I know where I’ve seen you from.”
He looked confused. “Now? You didn’t know this whole time?”
“No. You looked familiar, but I couldn’t place you.”
The look on his face was a lite one. He softly scoffed and raised his bottle to his head, and took a few gulps of his beer. When he lowered it, he spoke again.
“That’s refreshing. I’m not used to people not recognizing me.”
“That must suck. I couldn’t imagine living my life under suck a microscope,” you said without thinking. When you realized what you’d said, you glanced at him and tried to backtrack.
 “Uh—what I mean is--.”
He smiled and shook his head. “It’s okay. I know what you mean. I’m Chris,” he replied, holding out his hand to you. When you touched his hand, you were surprised by how soft they were. He’d never used them for manual labor a day in his life, you thought.
 “Ajali,” you responded.
“Aja—li, he slowly repeated, trying to mirror how you said it.
 “Yes.”
“Wow, that’s a beautiful name, very unique,” Chris noted.
 “Thank you.”
“What do your friends call you, Aja?”
You looked at him after raising your hand to the bartender, signaling you’d like another.
 “Why? Are we friends?”
Chris smiled and dipped his head down, making his hair fall into his face. He looked good with long hair and this grizzly beard combo. Again, he raked his fingers through his hair before he looked at you.
“We can be. We can be good friends if you like.”
Searching his eyes, you tried to find evidence in there to match the flirtatious tone of his voice.
“What if my husband isn’t into that?”
Chris smiled and turned his body to you. “You don’t have a husband. From the first time we bumped into each other, I noticed you’re not wearing a wedding ring, nor do you have any tan lines to signify you’re hiding one.”
Raising your eyebrow, you allowed his words to sink in. “I could have--,” you began.
“—Kids? Nah, you were alone the first time outside and again on the deck when I passed you and the night in the dining room and even at the show.”
 He’d been watching you.
“No, I’m not stalking you, I promise,” Chris quickly spoke up. “Plus, even if you had kids, it wouldn’t matter. I like kids—they like me.”
The two of you sat in silence for a few moments. When you got your drink, you took a long sip.
“So you’re alone here on this family Disney cruise. That alone deserves a question,” Chris continued.
“It does. You’re also alone on this same family Disney cruise,” you countered. Chris nodded and took another sip of his beer before he leaned closer to you.
“I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours,” he whispered.
There was no way you were going to divulge personal information to a stranger, no matter if he were Captain America. You spun to face him, then uncrossed your legs to recross them. His eyes dropped to your thighs, and that told you what you needed to know. He was on this cruise for hookups. Scoffing, you finished your drink.
“Your eyes just told me yours.” You slipped off the barstool and stood before him, leaning in just a little. “I hear Disney cruises are the place to be for after dark entanglements, and you’re in the right place. Have a good night.”
You walked away, not giving him a chance to respond. Instead of moving to another bar, you decided to leave. You’d heard plenty of rumors and stories of Chris Evans and his booty calls, and you were not impressed. He was clearly here for easy, strings free sex. You’d heard more than you needed to about how he met his hook up buddies and just not was textbook. You were not here to be another notch in his bedpost.
  -The Next Day-
-The Dominican Republic, 11:10 am
Tumblr media
As you walked through the ship, everyone was abuzz with excitement for the first port. You were also excited but not to disembark like everyone else. You’d been to the Dominican Republic plenty of times and had no intention of going out today. You had a plan, and it was to soak up the quiet and empty ship. You wanted to get a spa treatment, a massage, and soak in the hot tub or the steam room and allow the essential oils to work their magic on the tension coursing through your body.
“Attention passengers, we are officially docked. I’d like to be the first to welcome you to the beautiful Dominican Republic. As you disembark, a reminder that we will be leaving port promptly at ten o'clock. Please be on time, ladies and gentlemen, and enjoy your days.”
While everyone was walking in one direction, you were walking in the opposite. Everyone was decked out in their beachwear and sunscreen, and you could tell these kids planned on swimming every inch of that beach. The ride on the elevator was a quick one because you were going lower than everyone else. The spa was on the first level below water. The pamphlet advertised it as being one with the sea thanks to the unmatched view of the ocean and life under the sea. You were excited.
Once you got to the spa entrance, you smiled, seeing that it was completely empty.
“Welcome to Aqua Spa. My name is Vikki.”
“Hi. Am I the only one?”
“You are the first here. Between you and me, I don’t expect many guests being the first port and all,” the blond wearing a sea blue uniform said.
 “Excellent.”
 “Have you reserved?”
 “Yes, Ajali Rambaue.”
You watched her scan the computer screen before her. It didn’t take her long to smile again.
“Ms. Rambaue, welcome. I see you’ve booked the clearing treatment, a gold facial followed by the milk and rose oil bath,” Nikki listed.
Just her listing off your treats had you even more excited. Nodding, you confirmed. She returned your smile and ushered you through the spa. You could already see the blue hue from the portholes, and it bathed the entire spa in the same blue. It felt as if you were gliding underwater, completely immersed with the other creatures.
“Right this way.” You followed her into the room and gasped. The entire room was completely blue, and the sight before you through the clear window was breathtaking.
“Incredible, isn’t it? I guess you can see why they named her Enchantment.”
Maybe Lali’s splurge wasn’t so bad, you thought.
“So, the clearing treatment is an intricate one. You can change behind this screen as I prepare the room for you and your therapist,” Nikki explained.
You stepped behind the glass screen that immediately frosted once you were behind it, then began undressing and listened to her explain the treatment.
“Not only is it an incredible treatment, but it stretches to about three hours from start to finish. World-renowned masseuses and acupuncturist Jadenna Sole designed it. He aimed for it to restore the body’s balance. It does this through a mixture of Eastern and European techniques.”
When you stepped out, you were wrapped in the towel and sighed, seeing the newly lit candles that warmed the room. If you were doing a couple’s massage, this would have been the perfect atmosphere.
“It begins with a full-body exfoliation with sea salt and Indian Kama oil. After your therapist will perform a lymph system massage, and that will prep the body for your Swedish massage. After that, then your body will be wrapped in neem black clay, and you’ll sit and allow it to seep into your pores. Then you’ll rinse and sit in your milk and rose oil bath to then rinse again, and the finishing touch would be an intricate blend of oils and herbs rubbed into your skin that will help your chakras realign,” Nikki finished.
You were impressed as hell. You’d never expect a treatment like this on a cruise. It was more something for Manhattan among the rich. As you got comfortable on the table, you could hardly contain your excitement. When your massage therapist arrived and introduced herself as Marta, you prepared yourself to be shot into space. Massages were your thing. Lali joked that massages were your love language.
When Marta began the exfoliation process, it was relaxing enough for you to nearly fall asleep. You hadn’t realized how tense you were these last few days. You blamed Javii. It was all his fault. After twenty or so minutes, Marta rinsed you then really got started with the massage, all the while putting her back into it. She was a lot stronger than she looked. The pressure was perfect, and the scents from the oils were sublime. In no time, you were drifting from the ground into the sky.
After an hour, your mind was completely blank, and the knot between your shoulder blades was nearly gone. Marta made a few comments on how tense your muscles were and gave pointers on how to prevent locked muscles. You listened as she spoke and tried to retain the information, but you were too distracted with how relaxed you felt. By the time two hours had passed, your muscles were putty, and Marta was now on your gold facial.
This wasn’t the first time you’d gotten one. You and Lali often got them together as part of your sisters day. They were good for your complexion and elasticity. Your mother often stressed that collagen loved you when you were young but liked to play hide and seek the older you got and that you should cherish it and do all you could to maintain your healthy skin. You and Lali listened. After Marta finished applying the mask, you laid back and listened to the sounds of the classical music playing and drifted off to sleep.
When you awoke, it was time to wipe the concoction off and dip into your milk and rose oil bath. The warmth of the mixture had you moaning. There was something so luxurious about lounging in milk like you were an Egyptian queen that had you feeling like a boss. The mask that was applied to your hair was slowly hardening, so you fought the urge to dip your head back. Instead, you leaned back onto the cushions and sighed again.
Tumblr media
The silence in the room was just what you needed. Any stress you’d been feeling was a distant memory now. This was just what you needed, you thought.
“Who knew milk and rose oil could be so relaxing.”
Your eyes snapped open as you looked from side to side, trying to see if someone was beside you. The tub pods were empty, and from what you could see, you were alone.
“I’m glad I took Nikki’s recommendation for this over the peppermint soak,” the voice spoke again. You recognized it. Spinning around, you saw a bare back behind yours. He was close enough to touch.
Chris turned around to face you. His face was painted with a mask, only keeping his eyes and lips visible. You quickly forgot your state of undress, but you somehow knew of his. Your eyes dipped down to his bare shoulders and the hair that laid across his chest. You saw a peek of two and a possible third tattoo, and your curiosity piqued.
“Fancy seeing you here, Ajali,” Chris said as his eyes dropped lower. You looked lower on yourself to see your breasts almost out of the milk enough for him to see some nipple. Quickly you sunk down and turned back around, facing your back to him.
 “What’re you doing here?”
“Same as you.” You sighed and hugged your legs to your body.
“Shouldn’t they have men in a separate room or something?”
“I’ve seen a naked woman before,” Chris informed with a scoff. You turned around from the tone of his voice.
“I bet you have. You’ve seen plenty naked women.”
Chris turned to face you with his brows knitted together as if he fully got your meaning.
Tumblr media
“Just what are you insinuating?”
 “It doesn’t matter.”
“It does. Are you suggesting that I came on this cruise to sleep with unassuming women?”
You shrugged and turned back around, keeping your back straight.
“Wow, that’s insulting. Where do you get off?”
You remained quiet. He must have taken your silence as more judgment because he spoke again.
“I didn’t come on this cruise to snake myself into someone’s bed. I came because I needed a change of pace, some breathing room. Hollywood gets confining, and the more confining it gets, the more I feel like I’m—suffocating.”
Slowly you turned to look at him. His back was turned so you trailed your eyes over the exposed skin of his back and saw peeks of more tattoos. The man was getting sexier with each passing minute. His shoulders were broad and looked incredibly strong. The low light in the room didn’t help you see anything else, but you could more than imagine everything else.
“So, the confines of a ship wouldn’t feel suffocating?”
Chris turned to look at you.
“There is Hollywood confinement and this. This is not confinement. I have freedom here; I’m not watched like a hawk. Yeah, someone will recognize me here or there, but they are so respectful. For the most part, it is always quick. Plus, I don’t mind talking to the kids.”
This was the second time he brought up kids, you thought.
“Plus, now I’ve met someone who seems to have no problem telling me I’m a whore.”
Immediately you snorted loudly then laughed. “I never called you that.”
“Hinted at it is just the same as saying the words,” Chris accused.
You smiled and sighed, and your eyes lingered on his.
“It’s refreshing again. A lot of women will say what they think I want to hear or be how they think I want them to be.
 “Not me.”
 “Not you.”
It was said in unison. Once both of you realized what you’d said, you laughed together.
“It must be something having women fawn all over you.”
Chris shrugged, and again your eyes fell to his shoulders, and that is where they remained.
“Something is the word. It gets old, though—real quick.”
When your eyes met again, he held your gaze. “I’m sure men fawn all over you too.”
You took a deep breath and sighed out. “I’m sure they don’t.”
Chris snorted and gave you a “yeah right” look.
“I’m sure you’re full of shit. You’re a beautiful woman.” His eyes dropped below your face again, but they quickly came back up.
You turned your back to him again and stared into the milk and oil concoction. He wasn’t wrong, though he wasn’t right either. Men didn’t fawn over you. Yeah, you got attention from men a lot but to go as far as saying they fawned over you was a stretch. You didn’t notice any man besides Javii for the last three years.
“This is supposed to be a relaxing spa day for me. Maybe we should cut the talking out and just enjoy the rest of it,” you suggested, a little salty he’d reminded you of what you’d come to forget.
 “Sure thing,” Chris softly answered.
The two of you remained in your separate bath pods without speaking one more word. However, you were aware of his body and every move he made. His body gave off this energy that felt like your body reached out for. So instead of fully relaxing, you’d spent the time fighting the sway of your body or the urge to slink closer.
An hour later, you were in your clothes again and feeling ten times better than when you’d walked in. You thanked the staff and gave a generous tip, then left. When you got into the elevator, you leaned on the wall and sighed. As the doors closed, a hand stretched out, preventing it from closing. Chris then stepped onto the elevator with that stupid grin.
“We’ve got to stop meeting like this,” he joked as he pressed the six that was already lit up.
 “Is six your floor too?”
“Maybe.” He nodded and leaned on the wall beside you.
The two of you rode the elevator and looked outside the glass enclosure to the ship and even the ocean outside.
“They did a fantastic job with the ship. Even though you’re not on an island right now, you feel like it’s still a tropical vacation.”
 You nodded, agreeing with him.
“Do you come on Disney cruises often?”
You shook your head. “No. This is a first.”
Chris lit up and smiled widely. “Wow. It’s been a while since I’ve met a first-timer.”
 “I take it you’re not.”
“Nope, veteran. I come on a cruise at least once a year and go to Disneyworld and land twice a year,” Chris excitedly bragged.
“Oh, a little boy trapped in a grown man’s body,” you teased.
Chris chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Eh, nothing wrong with being a little boy.”
“Only if you aren’t that way because you refuse to grow up,” you responded. Chris looked at you and kept his eyes there. The ding of the elevator brought your attention back to the dial.
 “Six.”
You walked out the door, then turned left and proceeded to your room, wondering the whole way if that was a bitch thing to say. You had to learn to censor, you thought as you scanned your wrist and stepped into your room. Peeping back, you saw Chris still walking to his room with his head dipped low as if he’d lost his best friend.

Stevie’s Lil’ Sis (Part 2)
(Part 1)
Y/N's POV
As much as this whole ordeal has saddened me, it's also brought me much needed peace. Finding me has been nice, going from a girl in the 40's who would've most likely been an army man's wife, to a woman free to love whomever was exciting. It was also terrifying as well. Having always lived in a world without much freedom, to have all this choice was intimidating.
So as you're sat here contemplating your progress as you've reached the end of your treatment, you can't help but think of the beautiful redhead. This is a normal occurrence for you, she's almost always on your mind. You've heard from many, about how tough, and reserved she is, but you've never experienced that side of her. You start to wonder if the feelings are mutual, why else would she be so relaxed with you? You then begin to realize she's probably just pitying you, which begins to sadden you. Before you can continue to fall into the pit of overthinking you're brought out of your thoughts.
"Oi! Better looking Rogers, you ready to start your new life?" Shuri calls out to you
You giggle, standing up and patting yourself down.
"Ready as I'll ever be I guess... I will miss your flirty banter though, not so much your intellectual though as it just confuses me." You reply with a smirk
She laughs and drags you away to gather your minimal belongings and takes you to Natasha, who's waiting at the quinjet for you.
Nat's POV
I'm waiting for Y/N and boy am I nervous. SO many reasons why, for once I'm terrified of how I feel for her and vice versa. Secondly, I've had to keep her a secret, missions orders, and I'm worried Cap & Buck will be furious with me. Let's not get started on her love of nicknames like, "Natty," and "Tasha." The moment she says one in front of the team I'm doomed. She's just so precious though, I couldn't imagine being mad at her over anything. Doesn't mean I won't be embarrassed. Also, did I mention the feelings???
Oh there she is...
Y/N's POV
I'm approaching my farewell jet and see Natty smiling, while simultaneously fidgeting - she seems nervous, I can relate. I'm far more excited though. I'm going to see my family again!!! I also can't help how excited I am to be with Nat on a regular basis.
"Y/N!!! You ready to get going?" she enthusiastically greets me
"Y-Yeah!!!" I stutter out but with a wide smile on my face
"Goodbye better looking Rogers, don't hestitate to call or visit" Shuri playfully states
"I won't! I'll probably call you the moment I arrive. I'll have some sort of separation anxiety, I'm sure. Goodbye for now my favorite flirty nerdy.." You say as you avoid the slap to come and jump on the jet.
Nat's POV
Ouch! I know it's harmless flirting, but I can't help but feel jealous as I watch their goodbye...
"Alright, let's go Y/N!" I assert, she just looks up with a quirked eyebrow and follows me aboard.
As we're an hour into the flight I can't help but notice how sad she suddenly got. I quickly realized my abrupt response earlier must've confused her and possibly hurt her feelings. Part of me wants to leave her in this state to avoid any "Natty' remarks back home. However, seeing her sad, caused by me, is absolutely heartbreaking. So, I put us in cruise control and slowly approach her. As I sit by her she scoots over one, all but confirming by suspicions.
"Hey... is everything okay?" Is all I can get out.
She proceeds to keep her gaze down, but I see the tear fall. I immediately scoot over and pull her into me. She wants to fight it but she instantly falls into the hug.
"I-I'm f-fine" she stutters through her sobs...
"I'm just nervous and if I'm being honest your tone earlier threw me off. It's okay though, I'm sure you're tired of being my babysitter and secret keeper. Today must be a blessing in your eyes. I'm free, and I guess now you are too... huh?" she sadly replies as she goes to get up and walk away.
Y/N's POV
As I go to walk away after that embarrassing display, Nat grips my wrist and tugs me back in
"Y/n/n, I'm sorry if I came off harshly, or if I hurt your feelings. I'm just nervous is all. Yeah, I am your secret keeper, and I'm just afraid Cap and Buck will be furious with me. I've known you were back, and even though I'm just following orders, they might take it the wrong way. I'm sorry this isn't your fault, and I didn't mean to be harsh with you, I would never intentionally hurt you." She rambles on quickly as she tightens her embrace on me
"I'm sorry too, I should've realized sooner how hard this is on you too. It's okay, all is forgiven Natty." I reply in a hushed tone.
Nat's POV
Hearing the Natty put me at ease. As I went to release her she gently grabbed my arms and asked
"Can you just keep holding me? It's nice ... I feel calm and safe"
This causes butterflies to erupt in my stomach because her feeling safe with me means the world to me. Keeping her safe sounds like a lifetime goal for me. I say nothing, and instead just hold her tighter and pull her into my chest.
As we were about to reach the compound I looked down to find her in the most peaceful sleep I've ever seen, and I can't fight the smile forming on my face.
Fury's POV
"Friday! Alert the team to meet in the conference room in 15." He commands
"Of course, Director Fury." The AI replies
—————————————————————
As everyone begins to trickle in, I text Agent Romanoff to meet us here for the introduction.
"Welcome everyone, I've brought you here because we have a new recruit..."
Y/N's POV
"... Y/N Rogers" Fury announces, and that's my cue to be escorted in by Natty, or well I guess Agent Romanoff
As I walk in the room goes silent, everyone's clearly confused by the similarities between Stevie and I.. They probably think I'm some love child of his, little do they know I'm his long lost sister
"No..." I hear Bucky whisper and I start to get really nervous
"Is this some sick joke? ... Who are you really?" Stevie retorts and I flinch into Nat
"This isn't a joke... Shield found her a little over two years ago. She had been under Hydra's control and we found her upon her escape..." Fury replies
"AND YOU KEPT HER A SECRET FOR THIS LONG? HOW DARE YOU?" Stevie interrupts
"Rogers..." Fury and Nat both say in an attempt to reason with him and calm him down.
"NO! How dare you ... Fury, I at least expect this, but Nat ... really?" Steve whisper shouts
"Stevie.." I reply on the verge of tears. "... Please, don't be mad, it was for the best! I had to be free before I could see you again. I would've never focused if I was able to be with you.. Don't blame them."
He looks up at me with such confused eyes full of sorrow, guilt, love and a little bit of hope
He sighs, "I - I need some air" and with that him and Bucky walk out with sad expressions.

slip 'n sliding
hi! this is ay :D i wrote a silly lil six!broadway fic about bo sliding around the house as a dupe for heelys HAHAH so i hope y'all enjoy it!
-
Anne’s white Heelys, which she customized with mint and forest green acrylic paint, are her most prized possessions. The online algorithm randomly showed her the shoes one day, and before she knew it, the fun-loving queen had fallen down a rabbit hole of videos, different tricks, and the available styles on the website. But from the first day she got them, Jane had been unwavering on the sentiment that they are never to be worn in the house. Never.
Of course, she’d tried to fight her (in Anne’s opinion, sometimes overly) cautious friend on this new “rule.”
“You’ll hurt yourself, Bo!” Jane exclaimed, fidgeting with a random hair tie that was on her wrist.
Anne smiled in response, “No, I won’t. I’ve got perfect control over my fine motor skills like any adult would.”
“Yeah, but your abilities change when you’re on wheels!”
“Which is exactly why I should be able to practice, Jane. It’s the only way to get better,” she replied cheekily.
“Yes, I know and I agree. Just not in the house.”
“Why?”
Jane shook her head in disbelief, “I literally just said because you’d hurt yourself.”
“To which I replied I wouldn’t.”
“Fine. But you’re clumsy and might break something, Bo, and I do not want to have to deal with repairs.”
“Alright, alright,” Anne laughed, “I got it.”
Therefore, for a couple of weeks now, Anne has been walking around the house like an absolute plebeian. How boring, just taking one step after another! Not to mention how slow walking felt after having tasted the thrill of Heelys. Why anyone would opt to do that instead of (kind of) gracefully gliding around will forever be beyond Anne’s comprehension.
One day, while walking back to her bedroom after a day out with her cousin, Anne slipped slightly on the hardwood floor. Okay, maybe it seems obvious, but it suddenly clicked with Anne how smooth hardwood floors can be. The smoother a surface is, the less friction is produced when another surface rubs against it. Ding! Anne had an epiphany.
She quickly deposited all the belongings she’d brought out with her onto her bedroom floor and rushed back down the stairs, keeping only her phone and AirPods on her. To make sure the coast was clear, Anne checked the living room, the kitchen, any weird nooks, everywhere. When she was content in her checks, it was show time.
From her back jean pockets, the mischievous queen pulled out her phone and AirPods, pressing shuffle on her playlist of songs aptly titled “songs that make me feel like a professional dancer…oh wait, duh, i do dance professionally!” Once the music started playing, Anne mouthed along to the lyrics, losing herself in the rhythms. To get herself comfortable with the wood floors, Anne did a couple of test slides down the hallway downstairs.
“I got this!” she declared with a whisper. The music was turned up a little louder, and Anne tossed her phone onto the couch. Now it’s time, time to go to town surfing the hardwood floors and performing her own dance routines. There were a handful of times where she lost her balance and slipped, but it was never anything she couldn’t smoothly recover from with an extra twirl or bounce in her step.
However, after a little too long getting lost in her music, Anne got a little too cocky. For no rational reason, she decided to get a long running start and see how long she could surf the floor in a straight line. So, with Levitating by Dua Lipa flowing through her headphones, she sprinted for a couple of paces before placing her right foot in front of her left and cruising…until she stopped abruptly with a thud.
“What was that?” someone yelled. Anne continued to rub the part of her head that made contact with the wall whilst turning around to see her housemates rush down the stairs.
“Don’t tell me you walked into the wall, Bo,” giggled Kitty, covering her mouth with her hand to try and hide her amusement.
Cleves plopped down onto the couch, “How can someone walk into a wall so hard that it shakes the whole house.”
“Nuh uh,” Aragon chimed in, “that doesn’t seem possible for someone of Anne’s stature.” Both Cleves and Anne responded with a slightly offended, “Hey!” to which the other four laughed at playfully.
“I didn’t walk into a wall, alright! I’m not daft,” Anne sat down as well.
“Then, why are you rubbing your head like you hurt yourself?” Parr asked.
Jane scoffed in disbelief, “Were you wearing Heelys in the house?”
“Um, look at my feet. No, I wasn’t,” everyone glanced down at Anne’s feet just to make sure.
“Girl, don’t tell me you skated into the wall with socks on!” Cleves exclaimed. When Anne’s cheeks started to color, her friends bursted into laughter again. Except Jane.
“I cannot believe you, Bo. I try an prevent injury in this house, and you just have to find away around it,” chastised Jane, though Anne could tell by the smile on her friend’s face that Jane wasn’t actually as mad as she let on.
“You can’t ban socks from the house too, Jane!”
“Oh baby, just try me. I don’t want to see you covered in bruises,” her blonde friend called out as she walked into the kitchen. She returned an icepack for the queen who’d gotten herself injured, and held it against Anne’s forehead.
“I got it,” Anne placed her hand on the icepack, signaling for Jane to remove hers, “I’ll be more careful, I swear.”
Kitty picked up Anne’s phone from the couch cushion, “I don’t blame you for getting carried away, Bo. Levitating is laced with crack!”
“Could one get arrested for Heely-ing while being intoxicated?” Anne teased.
Jane immediately shot back, “Don’t you dare try!”
“Fine, but only because I love you too much to borrow bail money from you.”
Their house mom rubbed her temples, feigning a headache, “You’re lucky I love you too, Bo.”

 CHAPTER MASTERLIST
Maybe she should've stayed on the Cruise Ship after all. Without Peter. And his damn endless supply of seventies hits. But, it was too late for that now — days having passed from the week-long event and the Milano being far off from its territory. She just had to deal with him and his rather musical mood today; regardless of their previous , "we have no money," conversation earlier on. What on earth possessed her to stay after that clear sign was beyond her. She loved him too much. Narrowing her brown eyes in his direction with resentment as the song Magic by Pilot played, Malia folded her arms over her chest and groaned loud enough to catch Peter's attention —  which he ignored giving her, too immersed in his personal song and dance. Why did she fall in love with this man again?
Peter moved in sync with the music, even while limited by the confines of his seat. Malia's displeasure with his music choices wasn't something he turned out, just something that he'd grown accustomed to. She never really got too upset about it, just a weary look and a comment about his 'hippie music' here and there. Maybe it was because she knew what the music meant to him. Maybe, but Peter had other suspicions. Once in a while he'd catch her getting into a song, swaying and mouthing the words presumably so he wouldn't hear her. She'd immediately stop if she so much as suspected he was looking. He kinda wished she would just cut loose.
He'd seen her worry and get lost in thought so much in the past that seeing her just be happy in the moment and let the music be all that was on her mind made him happy for her. Not to mention it was one of those things she did that made him think he couldn't love her any more then he already did.
The song faded out, leaving Peter with a combination of satisfaction and excitement for the next track. He glanced at Malia who rolled her eyes and looked out the window at the stars. Peter chuckled, glancing at the controls. "Hey, don't worry about the money thing. We're making a stop that'll have some chances for cash. I got this." She gave him a smirk that faded after a few moments before giving a small nod.
The next track started to play and a smile crossed Peter's face. 'Stumblin' by Suzi Quatro', a favorite of his and a song he knew for a fact Malia enjoyed. He looked at Malia, putting on a look of shock. "Oh shit, Mal! It's a duet. Come on, don't leave me hanging."
"Someone has to worry," Malia huffed in response as the familiar song she would never admit she loved to him started to fill her ears. She knew that he knew some of his tracks had pierced through her modern heart, but — she pretended more often than not, like they didn't; for fun. And for the adorable face he made whenever she did. It had grown into a habit of hers. Pursing her lips into a forced line amidst the head bopping beat, she turned her face away from him before he could catch her change in expression and chewed the inside of her cheek. Maybe she did want to sing along, just a little, since it was her favorite song.
"Wherever you go, whatever you do...," As Peter directed the lyrics he sang, rather loudly, in her direction with a smile that reflected off the windshield mirror for her to see, Malia felt the corners of her mouth lift into a genuine grin of her own as he continued to belt out the rest of his part and playfully reach out for her. "You know these reckless thoughts of mine are following you."
She softly slapped his hand away, in between a giggle and allowed herself to move to the rhythm of the beat. "I've fallen for you, whatever you do," She harmonized in her part. "Cause, baby, you've shown me so many things that I never knew!"
Malia swayed to the music, extended out her hand to Peter and continued to carol her parts of the duet in glee, putting her worries behind her for the remainder of the song. She felt pleased seeing him like this with her, happy, when before it was a rare occurence to come by, knowing the undisclosed pain she knew he held. Of course, he shared sweet moments she forever would remember, the smiles and laughs he allowed himself to have. But, they were different. This was different. So, she'd cherish the moment and make it last longer.
"Our love is alive, and so we begin!" In unison, she sang along with Peter the chorus,  dancing in the co-pilot seat beside him and looked in his direction to catch his loving gaze. She admired the heavenly feeling he gave her as she continued to harmonize the track, squeezing his hand. "Foolishly laying our hearts on the table, stumblin in." Malia smiled, never taking her attention from him and swayed blissfully. If singing to his music made him this happy, she'd sing with him all the time. To have her heart swell, explode in millions of butterflies that tickled her inside. What could she say? She loved him.
Peter let Malia's hand go and shook his head as the closing notes of the song began to play. It was still so weird to think that this woman who had grown to be so important to him had just wandered into his ship at random one night. He looked at her, catching the beaming smile she was giving as she watched him, unable to help smiling back. "What?"
Malia shook her head, the smile never leaving her face. "Nothing." The song ended and a few seconds later the opening notes to Queen's rendition of ' The Great Pretender' began to play. "So, where are we  stopping this time?"
Peter adjusted the controls before returning his full attention to Malia. "Sakarr. Never been there myself, but it's supposed to be filled with all kinds of chances to make a little deniro."
Malia nodded, even though she had that adorable clueless look on her face. "How long?"
Peter shrugged. "Not long with these private trading routes at our disposal."
Malia shifted in her seat, pulling one of her knees up to her chest. "They are helpful. This 'Sakarr', what's it supposed to be like?"
Peter made a slight adjustment in the ship's course before answering. "Kinda tough from what I've heard, but don't worry. You've got superpowers after all."
"Yeah, I'll go in there blazing while you hide behind me and scream like a girl." Malia lifted her hands in an exaggerated gesture and laughed as the hysterical image of Peter freaking out while she kicked some random alien's butt filled her mind. It made her a bit excited over the possibility of her using her, 'gifts,' to fight and discover more about them. He being so accepting of her weird, glowy hands, had given her the confidence boost she needed over them. Her powers were no longer a pending secret she shared; it’s burden having become weightless.
Drifting her attention toward the colorful constellation in front of her, she remained silent for a few minutes, listening to Freddie Mercury’s ballad before speaking again. “If only there was a death star that needed blowing up,” She flatly chimed, remembering the fondness Peter had for the sci-fi classic. Unlike Captain America, she was certain he caught her not-so vague reference to a galaxy far, far away. After all, she was the Leia to his Han Solo. Their paired figurines on the dash of the Milano proved half of that claim, along with everything else.
“I forgot I glued those there,” Malia pointed to the small statuettes with a blissful expression painted over her face and smiled as she tried to reach out for them briefly and then relax herself back into her seat when the awkward attempt failed. Instead, she flicked her fingers, like a witch would amidst chanting a spell, and created a circular veil over the stilled dolls. “I will be Space’s Mightiest…,” She paused to think of a catchy enough alias to go with the known saying and bit her bottom lip. “Hero?” She said in the form of a question, glancing over at Peter for any suggestions.
She stared at him as another track began to play, then followed his gaze toward the shields she had placed over their figurines. “I can make them go away,” Waving her hand effortlessly in a dismissive motion, the blueish bubbles vanishing from the plastic toys. Maybe, she should’ve warned him a bit first? Malia stifled in a laugh at his lack of response, bewildered into rare silence again and leaned toward his chair. “Peter, sweetie?” She placed a hand on his arm, feeling light butterflies tickle her stomach over her first usage of a pet name and smiled playfully as she made her index and middle fingers into legs to walk along his arm. “I know where your candy is,” She whispered with an added gasp, hoping that would snap him out of his dazed state.
Peter quickly snapped his gaze from the figurines to Malia, noting the mischievous grin on her face. "Hold the phone. You mean I didn't lose it?" Malia let her hand brush his arm as she returned to her seat. "Mal? You better tell me where my candy is." Peter furrowed his brow as Malia mimed zipping her lips and throwing away the key. "Oh, that's how it's gonna be then?" Malia shrugged her shoulders, a pleased smile on her face. Peter nodded, a smile of his own creeping across his face. "One of these days, when you're looking out at space, don't be surprised if you see a certain bunch of wizard related movies floating by."
That got her. Malia sat up straight, her eyes widening a bit. "You wouldn't."
Peter gave a small shrug. "A man does crazy things when he doesn't get candy, Mal. I may not be able to stop myself."
Malia sat back in her seat with a huff. "Your precious candy is under the cushion of the bench."
 Peter smirked. "Alright. Crisis averted."
Malia glanced at him and smiled. "You're booze on the other hand..."
Peter threw up his brow. "Oh, that's even worse. Not sure what'll happen if I get sober all at once."
Malia slapped both of her hands over the sides of her face in a dramatized expression of shock and turned her attention toward Peter. "I don't know. Maybe, you'll clean your room?" She suggested with widened brown eyes for emphasis. Over their six month course on the Milano she'd cleaned his room about twice, opting the third time to leave his pigpen alone for him to roll over in. It wasn’t dirty in terms of trash laying around, but rather an accumulation of scattered clothes, unmentionables, and candy wrappers. She was lucky he at least showered.
“By the way, I found something the other day.” While she was on the subject of cleaning, she remembered the disc she found in one of the guest bedrooms. “I know I shouldn’t really go into those rooms…,” She admitted as she unbuckled the safety-straps from her torso and carefully walked toward the back of the flight deck. “But, I was looking for some tape and found it in one of the bins, tucked away.” Malia rummaged through the knapsack she usually left hanging near the ship’s blasters and retrieved the circular-like chip Tochi told her was actually a video.
Unhooking one of the pads from the armrest of an empty chair, she inserted the micro disk into its side and made her way back to her seat, trying to contain her excitement over the footage she had already seen of him and his team the night before. There were so many questions she wanted to ask him over it. Like where had they all gone? It was clear as day to her they were no longer together or in contact, but why? She paused in her train of thought, hoping what she was about to show him didn’t count as crossing the line with her overzealous curiosity.
“It’s some old footage,” Malia looked up at Peter once the video loaded on the pocket sized computer in her hand and smiled sheepishly as his blue eyes wandered onto the pad itself. She studied his muddled expression, her hand blocking him from seeing the screen and gave him an affectionate gaze, before hitting the play button. “It’s you and the Guardians…,” She mumbled, the sounds of the captured battle he at the time led, shouting out orders being displayed. He was nothing like the man she knew. “Look at you!” She beamed, smiling from ear to ear.
She averted her eyes from his face to look down at the moving images on the pad she held up for him, pointed at his figure on the screen and took in the footage with him. Besides the clip of The Guardians of the Galaxy, there were more mashed up tidbits recorded that she loved. “The cameraman is awful at his job,” Giggling  over the shaky shots and the very angry Raccoon who scolded someone named, “Groot,” Malia returned her attention back to Peter. Her gleeful smile slowly wavered from her lips when she caught sight of his somber expression. “Peter?”
Peter had heard Malia say something, but it hadn't registered. Nothing she'd said after the footage started had his full attention on that. Everything else around him felt like it'd been drained of its warmth and color as the old footage pulled him deeper in. Thoughts and feelings he'd tried for so long to keep buried bubbled to the surface. There was a reason he'd cleared the ship of almost every trace of his old teammates, and this was it. Because thinking of them meant thinking of when they left, and thinking of that meant thinking of why.
He was far into thinking that as the footage switched to a more candid moment of the team together. Peter felt sick as he recognized the location and knew it was just hours before his greatest failure. Just hours before and he'd had everything. His team, his family. He'd finally grown into more of the leader he tried so hard to be. He'd been happy. A few hours later he'd destroyed it all. Everything he'd done and gone through that day was still so fresh in his mind that sometimes it still felt like he was living it. He was living it now as the feeling of utter devastation he'd felt ever since came to the forefront.
He furrowed his brow, anger mixing in with the sadness, all of it directed at himself. He and his team continued to laugh as they made their way around the streets, oblivious to the coming event that would tear them apart. Peter was stuck in that event as he sat frozen in place, all of it written on his face plain as day as he stared at the screen. The fear, confusion, sadness, hatred, hopelessness, all of it felt like it was pushing to burst out of him. He tried to at least hold it together on the outside, having never much cared for feeling vulnerable. It was a battle he was quickly losing.
The camera turned and Peter saw himself at the front of the group, closely followed by a kid who'd taken a liking to him and the others. Her face and voice was forever scorched into Peter's mind as they both embodied everything that's happened that day. She was the last thing he could handle seeing. Peter broke his eyes away from the screen and set them forward on the stars. "Turn it off.
“Okay.” Malia lowered the pad from his line of view and turned off the electronic device without saying another word. She deeply regretted her decision over the footage and remained silent, knowing their lighthearted mood had drastically shifted into something she wanted to avoid. Something she expected yet, wished would’ve gone a different way. The subject over his team was indeed the puzzle piece she connected to the undisclosed pain she knew he felt. It was apparent by the waves of emotions she witnessed his face have in the span of the video.
Biting her lower lip, she squeezed the sides of the tablet gently, at a loss as the crippling silence started to take hold over her. ‘Should she excuse herself and leave?’ She thought to herself, unsure of the proper action to take. She wanted him to face whatever it was he desperately was trying to run away from. “Peter?” Malia turned her attention toward him, having kept her eyes trained on the dashboard for the long minutes that passed, and exhaled a deep breath in response to his stillness. “You can’t keep doing this to yourself…,” She flatly stated. “I won’t let you.”
She carefully moved the pad off her lap to twist her body into a more comfortable position and leaned as much as her seat restraints could allow her over to him, reaching out for his arm. “I know I’ve told you plenty of times you don’t have to tell me anything, but,” She paused to flick on the autopilot option of the Milano and continued in a stern tone. “It’s okay to talk about things and let them out.” That’s all she wanted, hating seeing him like this. She unbuckled her seatbelt with a desolate smile and stood beside his chair, hoping some of her words broke through. “And please don’t tell me you're okay cause I know you're not.”
Peter took a deep breath, letting her words sink in while the contents of the footage still swirled in his mind. He wasn't surprised that Mal had taken note of all of this. She was perceptive, it was one of the things he admired in her. A part of him really did want to tell her, let it out, but a bigger part was scared of how she'd take it. His hand wandered over his pocket, the picture he'd kept with him since that day coming to mind. Telling her would mean facing all that again. "Nothing gets by you, huh?"
He let the statement lighten the mood for the brief moment it did before the heaviness returned. He wasn't sure he could talk about it, but he owed Mal something more than silence. Peter took another deep breath, trying to keep the emotions out of his voice. "My team." The words hung in the air for a few moments before he continued. "We broke up about a year before I met you." His mind again wandered to the 'why', but he tried to ignore it. "It was bad, really bad." He slid a hand into his pocket, touching the picture housed there. It hurt him just knowing it was there despite his avoidance to look at it, but he couldn't bring himself to get rid of it. Maybe he should just tell her. It couldn't feel worse than this, right? He gingerly grasped the polaroid, keeping his eyes trained on the stars ahead. "It was my fault, all of it."
Malia let out a heavy sigh as his unexpected words sunk into her head and laid there. Particularly, the — 'all my fault,' part of his somber statement. She was unsure of how to take it. She could never imagine Peter doing anything spiteful on purpose to anyone or his team. He didn't have it in him. "I'm sure you tried your best." Gingerly touching the back of his metal chair, she leaned herself a little closer to him and hovered over his form with a soft expression. "Even if it was all your fault," She added cautiously. "Some bad things happen so we can learn from them sometimes." Malia ran her hand over his hair, before sitting herself on his lap. He had told her what he was willing to disclose, which was a lot to her, even if it was another puzzle piece to fit in.
"And, you can't learn from Peter if you're still stuck in that place." Lifting her brown eyes up to him, she gave him a heartfelt smile and grabbed the sides of his face playfully. "I told you I was going to need a reward for putting up with you," She chuckled, trying to lighten the heavy mood she felt was enough for the start of their day. There wasn't anything, but one part she hadn't already assumed over the absence of his team. The rest, the full story without any carefully placed words she would have to chisel slowly away for and wait or hope all the words she said helped him find his way. Pecking him on the lips, she wrapped one of his arms around her waist and laid her head on his shoulder. "Let's stay like this for a while, okay?" She mumbled, wanting to give him comfort.
Peter let go of the photograph in his pocket, taking the arm and wrapping it around Malia. He held her as tightly as he could without causing her discomfort. A deep sigh escaped him as the weight of the topic began to dissipate. "Yeah, that sounds like a plan."
He'd let the topic go as best he could for now, but it was never fully gone. There was more that he felt needed said, but he wasn't sure he was ready. He knew Mal would try and understand and help, but he wasn't sure if it was something that could be helped. If she were to know and look at him differently for it, he knew it'd kill him. But, she deserved to know, and so he'd try and tell her. He didn't know when, but he'd try. He'd just have to deal with whatever came of it.
There was one thing she'd said that he disagreed with though. He had learned from the whole mess. He'd learned that he had never been the hero he thought he was, and that he likely never would be at all.
Tumblr media
The cargo bay door lowered and Peter was immediately hit with the stench of garbage. They'd touched down in a landing bay on the outskirts of a city once they reached Sakarr Beings dressed like vagabonds hustled about, none really noting Peter and Mal's arrival. Malia joined him at his side, having changed into the usual garb of her space suit and his jacket. She'd claimed his only spare jacket as hers after his had been shredded during a tangle with that symbiote. This left Peter with just his trench coat for trips away from the Milano.
Malia wrinkled her nose as she took in the trashy landscape. "It's no Contraxia."
Peter drew his attention up from her outfit when she spoke. "No it is not."
Malia glanced at him, no doubt noticing the very conscious effort he was making to not constantly gawk at her in her outfit. "Every time I wear it, huh?"
Peter smiled, looking back out at the planet. "I'm not apologizing." He wasn't completely sure where to start, having only heard scattered facts about the planet. There was an arena, he knew that . Maybe they could get some units and bet on some matches. Their best bet would probably be to hit a bar and ask around. Someplace not too good looking, so that it would have more locals than travellers. Peter instinctively held out his arm for Malia to take, it having become a habit. "Let's go."
“Yeah.” Malia shifted her attention from the junkyard scenery around her and looped her small arms around Peter’s forearm for their stroll along the cluttered outskirts of Sakaar. For a planet built on assorted scraps of metal, 'it sure was colorful,’ she noted as she continued to take in the new environment and keep an eye out for possible job opportunities. With their need for money, or units as space currency was called, any doable task was up for grabs in her mind. If only she knew how to read the alien calligraphy written on some signs to help narrow them down.
Peter could with the implanted translators in his neck, but she avoided asking him once a daunting thought hit her. What if they weren’t ‘help wanted,’ signs after all? Drifting her brown eyes along the plethora of merchants up ahead, Malia unhooked one of her arms to point at one masked seller and their stand. “Are those cookies?” She wondered out loud, pulling Peter toward the vendor without hesitation. There weren’t many space cuisines she enjoyed eating, let alone snacks like he had, so part of her wanted to find something she liked.
“Can we taste them? Like, have a sample.” She looked over the selection of baked goods that were wrapped in vibrant plastic bags and sheepishly smiled up at the merchant, unable to see their facial expression hidden behind the steampunk visor they wore. “Um…,” She pulled Peter softly by the sleeve of his coat, feeling a bit self conscious and took a step back away from the stand — deciding on which bag of mixed pastries she would take. In the case the merchant said no to her sampling, she’d go on a wim and pick one that looked good enough.
“That one kinda looks like it’s fudge, right?” Pointing cautiously at one of the rosy colored bags near the far end of the table, Malia lifted her gaze up to Peter who seemed to be pondering a choice of his own and snorted. “Oh no!” She playfully wagged a finger in front of his face. “You're not getting any cookies. These are for me. Not you.” She chuckled. As if his candy diet wasn’t bad enough, he now wanted to add more sweets to its mix. “Do you want your baby muscles to turn into chubby ones?” She asked with an amused grin. “We’re going to have to get you an ab-roller then.”
Peter scoffed at the comment, taking a step back from Mal. "I'll have you know that the side of me that isn't you makes sure that this," He gestured towards his torso in a sweeping motion. "isn't going anywhere." Peter gave a flirtatious smile, throwing up his brow. "Lucky you."
Malia shook her head, her eyes wandering around the market. "Oh, I'm a lucky girl. Picking up candy wrappers all over the place."
Peter reached into his pocket, feeling around for some units. They were low, but food Mal liked was a rarity. Besides, they were going to make some more soon, hopefully. He pointed out a bag of pastries and handed over the units. "Nobody asked you to clean up."
Mal watched the bag as Peter took it. "Somebody has to, Star-Lard."
Peter paused, his mouth dropping open slightly at the jab. "You know what? These were for you, and now they're not. Think about that next time you wanna be hurtful."
Malia watched as the bag disappeared into his satchel. "Oh, come on. Don't be a baby."
Peter shook his head, looking at Mal. "Nope. Not gonna..." He caught her eyes as she innocently looked at him, and immediately averted the gaze by looking just above them. "Not happening."
"Please?” Malia drew herself closer to Peter and pushed her lips forward into a persuasive pout as she placed both her hands over his chest and batted her eyelashes at him. "I'll give you one of my cookies and a kiss?" She offered, inching her face closer to his to tease the intimate action he loved to engage in with her. It was his sort of kryptonite, or maybe she was? His sort of ultimate weakness. She smiled at the comic book thought and continued her childish pleas for her kidnapped goods. “You know you want to give me my cookies back so, give em.”
Peter kept his eyes straight ahead, debating his commitment to withholding the cookies. "What kind of kiss are we talking about?"
Malia shrugged. "Why? Do you have a preference?"
Peter threw up his brow, thinking back over the few times they'd shared a kiss in the past... two days? They'd only been together two days? Still felt so weird, but completely normal too. He paused on a thought, giving Malia a small smile. "One like that time on Kalara's rig. When we were in the hall."
Malia laughed, dropping her head a bit, but keeping her eyes on his. "You liked that one, huh?"
Peter gave an enthusiastic nod. "I did."
Malia straightened up, holding out her hand to Peter. "Alright. It's a deal."
Peter nodded, shaking the outstretched hand and holding out the bag in the other. "Alright."
Malia took the bag, giving Peter a wink before walking off. "You should've specified 'when'."
Peter watched her move ahead of him, a bit dumbstruck by the con she'd just pulled. After a few seconds a chuckle escaped him. " My God, I love you."
He started after her, remembering she didn't know anymore where they were going then he did. His eyes scanned the outside of the market, looking for a bar or something like it. He finally caught sight of a dingy looking entrance way with no windows. The sign above was mostly destroyed from what looked like an explosion, judging by the scorch marks. Really the only indication that the place was a bar came from the vagabond passed out on the ground in front of it surrounded by bottles. He tapped Mal on the shoulder and gestured towards the place. "Come on. We'll see about finding a lead there."
Malia nodded her head in response and followed Peter into the unkempt tavern, opening her vibrant bag of cookies in anticipation. "Do you want one?" She asked in a hushed tone as the disreputable environment of the bar settled itself around them and caused her to rethink her premature offer. "Nevermind...," She placed the plastic bag inside his satchel, not wanting to draw any attention and pulled on the flaps of her oversized jacket. ‘What kind of lead were they looking for exactly?’ She wondered. The place seemed to be crawling with so many questionable options already. None which she was too enthusiastic to comb over.
“Why can't we get jobs like normal people?” Malia drifted her brown eyes over the bustling crowd of colorful Sakaarans, going about their business, drinking and briefly touched Peter’s arm once one of the patrons suspiciously eyed them from across the room. That was enough motivation for her to move herself along and avoid ever going in that particular direction. She didn’t want to be mysteriously taken and auctioned off somewhere. Space was a dangerous place ,she learned, the public establishments only adding to it’s laundry list of things to be mindful of. They were like minefields to her, filled with countless booby-traps.
Looking over at Peter, who had shuffled his way toward the bar counter, Malia squeezed herself beside him and the very large individual sitting beside him. “You better be asking the bartender for a lead and not a drink,” She folded her arms as best she could over her chest and glared in his direction. “I don’t care what you say about your genes keeping this,” She moved one of her hands in a circular motion over his figure. “—together. Alcohol makes your human side get fat.” She expressed, not really knowing if her statement held any merit at all. Peter was indeed half-human, right? So, that meant something, she assumed.
“We’re going to get you that ab-roller and , oh, start doing yoga! It’ll be fun.” Malia lifted both of her hands excitedly at the idea of helping him get back into shape, or rather toned up a bit and started to list off the various activities he’d have to do and foods he’d have to cut, like the alcohol and his candy, forgetting about their task at hand. “Oh my god, we’ll even wear matching workout clothes. I’m sure we can find those somewhere. Aren’t you excited?” She gave him a gentle push, accidentally bumping into the customer behind her and quickly apologized, before bringing a smile to her face. “I’ll be like Jane Fonda.”
Peter had had a comeback in mind, but Malia's last statement had sent his mind wandering to Jane Fonda's wardrobe in Barbarella. This inevitably led to him imagining Malia in a spacey bikini of her own, an image he knew wasn't going away anytime soon. Malia shoved his arm, snapping him back to the situation at hand. "Hey? I said, ``What kind of lead?"
Peter shrugged as he turned around to face the room. "You know, odd jobs. Anything that would net us some cash. We just have to ask around." He scanned the room, not knowing where to start. "Just gotta ask around."
Malia grabbed his hand and pointed across the room. "What about them?"
Peter let his eyes roam over the group Malia had pointed out, shaking his head. "Not quite shady enough. We need at least kinda shady, but not completely shady."
Malia gave him a light pat on the arm. "So, you? "
Peter considered the words for a moment before nodding. "Pretty much." His eyes continued to wander around the room, stopping when he thought he saw a familiar face. He focused on the dark corner of the bar, hoping he'd been mistaken. The woman moved slightly, enough for the light to hit her blue face and reflect off the cybernetic eye. Peter tightened his grip on Malia's hand, immediately turning towards the door. "Time to go."
"But, what about the leads?" Malia looked over her shoulder in the direction Peter had stared off to and caught sight of the scowling woman she assumed caused his sudden panic and change in tune. “Who…,” She blinked at the cybernetic individual, receiving a glared response in return as she did and turned her head away, the crowded streets of Sakaar coming back into view. "Frenemy?" She asked once the tavern was far from their line of sight, surprisingly not considering the blue colored woman an ex of his. She just didn’t look like one.
Her cybernetic death glare made her believe she was a friend or frenemy like she mentioned. There was a look of familiarity there, not filled with too much animosity she might add. “You know, a person who's sorta a friend, but also kinda an enemy too?” She felt inclined to explain, digging into the back of Peter Satchel for her cookies while they followed a sea of residents down the street. “She looked like an assassin.” Malia took a small pause after her statement to bite into the cookie she held in her hand and smiled, savoring it’s taste.
“It is chocolate!” She beamed. “Or something like it?” She added, pleased to have found a snack she could finally ask for at the market. She ran her finger across the plastic’s label, curious of its name and hummed at the alien writing, slightly annoyed she was met with the usual language barrier. “I feel like a handicap person,” She groaned, before handing the bag over to Peter. She didn’t want creepy implanted translators. “Read this, please.” She asked, catching sight of a growing line not too far from them. ‘That seemed shady enough,’ she thought to herself.
Peter glanced at the bag for a moment and sighed. "You know the translator only works with talking, right?"
Malia furrowed her brow as he handed the cookies back to her. "What?"
Peter nodded, eyeing the gathering crowd. "Yeah. I use my helmet for reading alien stuff, but the translator makes me able to understand and communicate in any language."
Malia continued to stare at him, wearing the adorably perplexed look she often had when encountering new things. "How?"
Peter shrugged, having long since accepted it as normal. "Not sure. Brainwaves and such. I might not even know English anymore, but with the implant it's what you hear from me."
Malia glanced down, absorbing all the new information. "Space is weird."
Peter chuckled. "Yeah, it can be. Maybe you should get one? An implant, I mean. Just in case you run across an alien who doesn't if I'm not around."
Malia shook her head, covering her neck with her hand. "No way."
Peter looked over his shoulder, just to be sure Nebula hadn't followed him. 'Frenemy ' was what Mal had described her as, and Peter kind of agreed. Nebula always seemed to dislike him, but not outright hate him. There'd been a time or two where they'd even had a friendly enough conversation. Like that time he'd tried to get her and Gamora to make up. Peter sighed as he thought of his old teammate and looked back at Malia. "Looked like an assassin, huh?"
 Malia shrugged. "She did."
Peter started towards the gathering crowd, deciding to see what all the fuss was about. Maybe there'd be a lead in there somewhere. He glanced back at Malia, feeling like he'd dropped the Nebula thing a bit too abruptly. "She's not a very good assassin if you picked her out that quickly."
Malia gave a small laugh. "All those mystery shows came in handy."
Peter held out his arm for her to take as they entered the crowd. "Seriously though. That's exactly what she is and she's grumpy, so I don't recommend saying 'hi'."
"Well, if she pops up and tries to kill you, I'll be sure to remember that." Malia let out a slight laugh with her response and wrapped her arms around his forearm again, drifting her attention toward the bustling crowd up ahead. "You know what this kinda reminds me of?" She asked as she took in the various Sakaarians in line ahead of them and smiled at the recent memory that filled her head. "When we waited for the lift in the garden," She clarified, looking up at him with a brief sentimental look of nostalgia. It was strange, how two whole days felt ancient.
Not too long ago, they were aboard a cruise ship, before then trying to figure out what their feelings meant for them going forward. And now? They just were, everything prior to that seeming like a year had gone and went, when merely days had passed. She squeezed Peter’s arm softly as she drew her thoughts back to the present and held up a finger when she recalled their deal. “I almost forgot,” She admitted, unhooking one of her arms from his to retrieve a cookie from her coat pocket. “Since you’ll be going on a diet, here you go.”
Handing him one of her baked goods, Malia playfully stuck out her tongue as he took a bite of his cookie, grumbling something incoherent she couldn’t quite make out between chews. She figured it was about her diet comment and wrinkled her nose with a funny expression, then moved along the line, before turning to Peter confused. “Why are we in line? And for what exactly? What if this is leading us to be sold for parts?” She started to think of a dozen possibilities for the growing line they were in and tried to peer over the sea of heads with the help of her own feet.
She stood on her toes, using Peter for balance and craned her neck out in hopes of spotting any clues as to what the line was actually for. “There's a ticket booth…,” She announced, seeing the customers near an entrance of sorts, stop at the worn out structure near it. A crooked sign hung up above it with a drawing of an object she couldn’t put into detail. From their distance it looked like a misshapen vehicle. “I think this line is for a race?” Moaning a bit over her sprained toes, Malia snaked her arms around Peter’s neck and giggled as she let her feet lay normally on the ground again.
‘She should make him carry her,’ She thought to herself, leaning her head on his shoulders and maneuvering her hands back around his forearm. She closed her brown eyes for a minute or two amidst the alien chatter about her and spoke once the line started to move forward again. “Before, when we were in Karla's closet, why did you ask when we were going to kiss again?” She wondered. “You do know, and I know you know, that you can just kiss me whenever, right?” She added, curious to know his answer. Sometimes she felt a little self conscious putting the moves on the Legendary Star Lord.
Peter had to think to recall his flirtatious question from that night, and then think even harder to give a suitable answer to Malia's question. That whole night was really just a jumbled mess of happy memories in his head, so focusing on one thing he barely remembered saying was a task, let alone why he'd said it. He couldn't help but chuckle at the expectant look Mal was giving him over her out of the blue inquiry. "Geez, Mal. Way to put me on the spot." Peter cocked his head, piecing his reply together. "I guess I was just still adjusting to the fact that we were a thing. I'd wanted that for so long that when it happened I could barely wrap my head around it."
Peter moved forward as the line progressed, making sure Mal stayed with him so as not to lose her in the crowd. "There was so much I felt like I needed to and wanted to say to make up for all that time I hadn't said anything. But, I couldn't get any of those thoughts straight, so I just asked you that." Peter caught her eyes and gave her a small smile. "Still feels like there's a lot I should tell you." He racked his brain, trying to grab one of those restless thoughts he'd mentioned. Of course, the first to come up was embarrassing, but he figured he'd share it anyway. "Way back when I was taking you back to earth and thought you were staying there, I used to get drunk and listen to crappy love songs while thinking about you. This one time I actually made-'' Peter cut himself off, remembering the long lost and forgotten mixtape he'd made her during one such drunken stupor. He shook his head, deciding to save that embarrassing story for another time. "Nevermind."
Malia lifted her head up to Peter and raised the corners of her mouth into a smile with a look of realization settling across her face. She remembered the said tape, tucked away in her underwear drawer. 'So, that's what it was,' She quietly confirmed to herself as the line advanced forward, causing her to take a momentary pause. He was thinking of her even way back then? Like she was. Holding her gaze forward while she savored the heartwarming thought, she continued to grin, feeling the light flutter of her stomach. "You, Peter Quill," She gushed amidst the unexpected chatter of the crowd, "are a certified dork."
Turning her attention once more toward him with an expression of glee, Malia tapped the side of his face with her lips and stared at him. She found it strange how much she wanted to say, 'I love you,' with each passing conversation and cover his face with kisses whenever she could. To make up for lost time, for the many occasions she in the past wanted to show him her genuine affection. "My Space man, or better yet, my Star-Lord?" She suggested, taking in his adorable expression of bewilderment with the smile that never left her. She liked the sound of that. Her Star-Lord. As she opened her mouth to speak, an abrupt bang shifted her attention over to the line.
"I said, fifty units, each." Marked with an irritated scowl plastered across his tainted yellow skin, sat the ticket master in his booth, awaiting his pay. He lowered the metal pipe he held from the barred window and leaned forward in his chair. "Or are you two just here to give us a show?" He grudgingly asked, maneuvering his red eyes over them to his customers behind, who seemed just as agitated when Malia glanced in their direction. ‘Since when had they gotten to the front of the line?’ She wondered in a daze as she sheepishly bowed her head toward the crowd and approached the window alongside Peter. “Sorry,” She mumbled.
“Fifty units, each, people,” The ticketer repeated, ignoring her apology. He pointed a finger at the both of them, pretending to be a clock and locked eyes with Peter as he dug around his pocket for the payment and practically slammed the coins against the booth’s small window desk once found. “Thank you! NEXT.” Dispensing two casino styled tokens from a hatch that opened beneath the barred glass, Malia quickly scooped up the metal and shuffled herself forward. “What a douche,” She blurted out, moving the ripped curtains out of the way as she walked down the entrance. And she thought New York was riddled with mannerless pricks. She hadn’t met not one nice alien yet.
Peter nodded in agreement with Malia's assessment of the alien running the ticket booth. His mind soon wandered to the miniscule amount of units he had left. What was on him was all they had. He glanced at the chip in his hand, turning it over. A race, huh? Maybe he could place a bet or two. He looked up as the crowd dispersed to makeshift stands built from what looked to be scrap metal. Ahead of them some floating wrecks of vehicles hovered above the cracked stone of the ground. "I think we found that shadiness we needed. "
Malia nodded as she leaned closer to him to allow a large alien to lumber past. "This looks like Mad Max... or that Death Race movie. You know, with..." Her voice trailed off as she continued to take in their decrepit surroundings. "You know, I kinda forget just how not normal my life is most of the time. But then at times like these it really just hits me," She looked up at Peter, an amused smile across her face. "I'm not in Kansas anymore."
Peter threw up his brow, actually recognizing one of her references for a change. "No, you're a far cry from your kind of normal. You miss it?"
Malia wrinkled her nose. "Not for a second." She once again turned her attention to the area around them. " So, what's the plan? "
Peter furrowed his brow as he scanned the crowd. "Look for leads on work, place a careful bet or two. We only need enough units to restock on food for now... unless we see something fun to buy, obviously. " He glanced at Malia, a thought crossing his mind. All the times he'd called her his partner without ever really showing her he believed in her. That'd been a shift between them he was still adjusting to, having been more or less her protector for so long. She'd asked him a few times to trust her more to help, and this seemed like a good time to show her he did. Peter reached into his pocket, pulling out half of their remaining units and holding them out to Malia. "Here. We'll find something quicker if we split up. You have a communicator, right?"
“Yes,” Malia dug inside her pocket to retrieve the earpiece Peter mentioned and gingerly placed it behind her ear with a firm nod as the crescent shaped metal beeped in confirmation. She trickled half of the units he held out for her in its place and patted the leather area to hear the coins. “Um,” She paused to look up at him in thought over what to say and pointed to her communicator when only the obvious was left. “If anything goes wrong, let me know.” She advised, remembering the time when she saved him from the Nova Cell.
“Or don’t,” She added with a playful chuckle, “So, I have enough time to run away.”
She leaned herself into him for a bit, placing her hands above his chest and kissed his cheek for personal good luck. Giving him a soft push forward afterward, Malia turned on her heels and randomly picked a direction while she stood next him. “I’m going to go that way,” She pointed to the left section of the stadium-esque arena and started to tread in the decided direction with exaggerated confidence. Midway, she glanced over her shoulder and winked at Peter, before blending in with the passing crowd, a smile forming on her lips.
‘Place a bet, make a killing, not literally — and earn some money.’ That was their goal, one she hoped was smoothly accomplished. But, judging by the brow-raising citizens of Saakar around the race track, that could prove to be a bit difficult. So, she had to…? Test the murky alien waters. Drifting her brown eyes over the various groups of sellers, gamblers and vagabonds that roamed the metal assorted stadium, Malia pulled her hair into a high ponytail, catching the unexpected attention of a man wearing a bandana.
He stared at her from the herd of individuals he was part of, a white furred woman and cybernetic looking man, with a suggestive smirk placed across his moustached lips. It alone sent a shiver down her spine as the strip of hair above his mouth reminded her of Peter’s short-lived stache-lord persona. 'What was with this Tom Selleck facial hair infatuation?’ She wondered, not fully understanding the craze. She furrowed her brows once she noticed the stranger’s continued gaze and cautiously slipped her hands inside her pockets.
As he approached her, going in the opposite direction, she gripped the handle of her engraved barbecue fork, grateful she brought it along. She never did leave the Milano without it, the gift sort of becoming an odd weapon of choice of hers. She knew a two pointed piece of cutlery couldn’t lethally harm anyone, but it'd injure them at least. Shifting herself closer to one side as his figure drew closer to pass, Malia looked directly into his eyes and pursed her lips into a tight line. She furrowed her brows downward then narrowed her own eyes.
There was just something about this guy she didn’t quite like. His whole aura gave off too many shady vibes. And not the kind her and Peter were looking for. More of the ones you stay away from. Once he came to pass, his smirk changed to a small smile at the suspicious expression she held for him to catch, turning his head forward with an amused laugh. ‘What's so funny?’ She threw him a daggered glare as he slowly blended himself within a mixed crowd, making her come to a stop. He was heading in Peter’s direction.
Touching the back of her ear to activate her communicator, Malia continued her stalled walk and puffed up her cheeks for a minute, before releasing the air in them. Whoever that stranger was irked her. It was like he knew what she was up to by the way he looked at her. “Peter?” She called out, careful not to draw too much attention to herself. “There’s a real shady guy heading your way. Has a bandana on.” She expressed, hoping he heard her amidst the roaring noise of the ongoing race and attendees around her. She at least had to warn him. Especially with the gut wrenching feeling she felt.
Tumblr media
Peter put a finger in one ear and cupped a hand over the other. "I didn't quite catch that, babe. What did you say?" He shot an annoyed look at the noisy crowd and even noisier race before making his way to an isolated corner. "Hey, can you hear me?" Peter tapped his communicator a few times for good measure, somewhat regretting his choice to show Mal his confidence in her. His eyes scanned the crowd in the direction she'd walked off in, trying to at least catch a glimpse of her. Hopefully the communicators were in working order and it was just the noise. Maybe she'd gotten distracted? That wasn't unusual for her. Peter tried to think of something that would get her attention if that was the case. "Hey, Mal. You remember that time when you were in that vent and I touched your butt by accident? Not an accident. "
There was a few seconds of silence before Mal's voice answered. "What? I could barely hear you."
Peter breathed a sigh of relief before letting out a chuckle. "Nothing important. I'll tell you later."
Malia grunted on the other end before letting out a soft curse. "Okay, but did you catch what I said about the shady looking guy headed your way? Something didn't feel right about him, Peter."
Peter glanced around momentarily, not really sure what he was looking for. "Gonna need some more details then 'shady looking', babe. Everyone here fits that bill."
"Do my eyes deceive me, or is that the legendary Star-Lord?"
Peter paused as the unfamiliar voice behind him practically sang the question. He turned around to look at the man before him. The man's shoulder length black hair was tied up in a ratty looking blue bandana. He wore a red jumpsuit with various pouches and other such items strapped about here and there. On one hip he had a blaster, and in the other was, bafflingly, a cutlass. "Mal, I'll talk to you in a minute." Peter lowered his finger from his ear, keeping his eyes on the man's own and not his enviable mustache. "Depends on who's asking."
The man raised his brow, a smirk crossing his face. "I'm Corsair."
Peter threw up his brow as he recognized the name. "Corsair? The pirate?"
Corsair nodded, obviously pleased with the recognition. "The very same. What brings an outlaw such as yourself to Sakarr, Star-Lord?"
Peter didn't want to give this guy much information. He was, after all, a pirate. Peter knew better than to trust anyone that shared a line of work similar to his own. Corsair studied Peter with a close eye that made Peter uncomfortable. It felt like he was being sized up. Peter gave a nonchalant shrug. "Just a quick stop. No real reason."
Corsair nodded, looking around at the crowd. "Well, you picked a pretty dangerous place to stop considering your wanted status." The privateer locked eyes with Peter on that last word, narrowing him just a bit. "Somebody might just wanna grab that reward."
Peter's hand instinctively moved to hover above his blaster. While he was willing to do it, he didn't want to kill this guy and throw the place into chaos with Malia still in the crowd somewhere. She could handle herself, but finding her and getting away may prove difficult after. "Listen, Cap'n, I'd rather not do this."
Corsair held his arms open. "Go ahead. It'll make things more fun. But, don't forget that unlike you..." Some motion behind Peter drew his attention for just a moment. It was only long enough to note the two armed individuals that stood behind Peter on either side of him. Peter returned his attention to Corsair, his heart rate quickening in the familiar way it did before a fight. "I still have a team."

Multivoid: Prologue
A fanfiction revolving around 2K, Palindrome and the alternate Zims in the aftermath of the Battlevoid arc.
Based on Invader Zim comic issues 46-49.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bright green light of the Zapper can be seen from the distance, standing tall and mighty for six months, while the green vortexes are shown in the sky. Distant explosions can be heard growing louder and louder. A highly advanced voot cruiser zooms by, tumbling about with smoke coming out from one of the engines. Within the voot cruiser, sirens were going off, the monitor blinking a sign that said “ENGINE FAILURE: ENGAGE NEW ENGINE”. Palindrome frantically looks about all the complicated buttons that were barely ever in his original cruiser.
“Come on, come on, which one! If that Zib really is half of me, where would he put that stupid button-?!”
Just as he was searching, the voot’s communicator turned on.
“Pal...PAL! Can you hear me?!”
There was no doubt on mistaking that loud child-like voice. Palindrome immediately turned on the speaker,
“I’m going down! There’s a monitor telling me to engage a new engine, but I don’t know how!”
“Well I don’t know, try anything! Maybe try the big yellow one on the right corner of the controls!”
He knew that he shouldn’t hesitate and hope for the best. He slammed his fist down on the big yellow button, and heard a bam sound at the back of the ship. For a moment, he thought that he would explode to bits until he saw the sirens go off, indicating that the damaged engine ejected out and was replace with the new engines that was within the ship. He gripped on the pilot handles and yanked it back.
The voot cruiser flicked back to its normal position and the ships’s fall softened to a stop right before it can even hit the ground. Palindrome took a moment to rest against the seat and sigh in relief.
“Ok,” he told the speaker, “I’m good.”
A sigh of relief can also be heard from the child-like voice.
“Well that’s good. Yeesh, you almost gave me a heart attack...”
“Heh...now you know the feeling I get every time you run into danger.”
Palindrome took a moment to calm and then looked out from the horizon. Thousands of voot cruisers can be seen swarming the now damaged castle, with a huge mechanical Zib looking robot standing on top of it. He watches as the robot keeps shooting down the cruisers and knocked out any that tried to charge towards him, making them tumble down into the ground. Each Zims were able to eject themselves out of the ship safely before it hits the ground and exploded. With nothing else for them to do, they look up at the remaining ships still flying and started rooting for them to win.
At this point however, Palindrome know that Zib will win unless they try forming a battle plan.
“He’s stronger than expected, 2K. If we’re going to win this, we have to find a way on getting to him without being blown to bits-“
“Yes yes, I’m aware of that, let me think!”
“Well try not getting yourself killed while you’re thinking.”
The communicator remained quiet. Not wanting to do anything else unless the smeet forms a plan that he might take part in, he looks out again at the battle field. Even though there were thousands of ships flying about, he was able to easily detect 2K’s ship. It was like his normal cruiser, but with two missiles on each side of the ship. Although it did not look as powerful as the other ships, it did not stop the smeet from sharply steering the ships through each of Zib’s attacks and even attempting to shoot back on the gigantic robot.
It was a great reminder that this is what his best friend really is. Someone who is willing to strive forward no matter what obstacle. Not even the fact that his body was de-aging little by little didn’t stop him. He may not be as strong as Palindrome, but his determination and confidence is something that can never be beaten down. The fish hybrid’s smile crept again. As long as he’s like this, then Palindrome, not even the others who have spent months in this asteroid planet, are going to give up. They are so close to going home.
Palindrome’s attention to 2K’s ship however was distracted when he noticed something off about the vortexes. Within the center of them, a red color  swirled out until the green vortexes were now completely seen with a sort of reddish and pinkish color. Palindrome blankly gazed at them.
“....Thats new.”
He spoke through the speaker again.
“Hey 2K, the vortexes just turned red all of a sudden. Do you know what going on with them?”
“Red vortexes?” 2K asked before having a moment of pause, indicating that he was possibly looking at them.
“...Huh,” the smeet responded with a tone of wonder, “that’s new.”
“Exactly what I said,” Palindrome looked back up at them. As he’s doing so, he can hear 2K hum as he ponders about it.
“...Wait!” His tone lits up, “maybe the Elder was able to successfully alter the vortexes. We should be able to get back to our timeline!”
Palindrome blinked,
“You really think he was able to do it?”
“Why not?! He’s a Zim, so he should accomplish anything! Well not as much as me and you, but you get what I mean.”
Palindrome’s ear fins raised up a bit in interest, remembering the time before they left the Elder, he told them that he would find a way to go to the Zapper and try altering the vortexes that should give the Zims access back to their home timeline. He did however say that he was going to try releasing the captive Zims first. And given that there are two thousands of them, he  would be surprised with the fact that he was able to do it that fast.
Though there can be a chance that as he was freeing them, more helped out. Palindrome glanced at the huge glowing device, his eyebrows furrowing.
Altering the Zapper’s device was a task that I was completely against. Given the fact that we barely know how to use it and what available functions it may have, was he really able to do it? Will these altered vortexes really take us back home? And more importantly, how will the Zims that lost their ships be able to travel back?
“....Wait!” 2K spoke you again, “I think I have an idea!”
“You do?” He looks back at the speaker.
“Yeah! It’s kind of crazy but then again, that what makes me so awesome!”
Palindrome knew what he meant by this and narrowed,
“You better not get yourself killed.”
“Well were all gonna get killed anyways if we can’t think of anything else!” 2K argued.
The fish hybrid went silent. At this point, he can’t convince him not to do whatever he was going to do. They might die either way by this fused creature. There is no other option but to do whatever must be done to win.
“Oh! And Pal?”
Palindrome took a moment to snap out of his pause,
“Yeah?”
“I am very very certain I will make it out of it. But just in case that extremely rare occurrence does happen, I want you to take my place. You got that?”
He already had an idea on what he meant by that too. He took a deep breath.
“Alright. But come back alive, ok?”
“Got it! Alright, I’m going in!”
He watches 2K’s ship make another sharp turn, heading straight towards the mouth of the robot. However, right before 2K entered the mouth, Palindrome far off saw Zib, sitting on top of the head of the robot, took notice of the a boot cruise charging in. Without hesitation, Zib quickly controlled the arm to quickly grab the ship and crush it. His heart sank, his body feeling cold.
No...no no no no....
He quickly turned on the speaker again.
“2K. 2K!”
There was no response.
His body started to quiver, his eyes glued on the crushing boot cruiser that his partner is in. His teeth clenched.
“2K!!”
The communicator remained silent. His sat there quietly. Grief was starting to set in. And so did grudge. His eyes flared deadly at the creature that was controlling the robot.
“I want you to take my place.” The voice of his friend echoed in his mind.
His hand slowly and shakily grabbed unto the control handle. He was about to be the one to charge in next.
However, a sound of broken glass can be heard from the crushed voot cruiser, along with a small being flying right out of it and then falling onto the the mouth of the robot. He was hanging onto the edge, his body quivering and struggling, until he built up strength to climb inside of it and disappearing. Zib can then be seen looking in shock and anger before shouting something that was too hard to hear from far off. He turned and was about to hit another button when something caught him off guard. His eyes immediately turned to the monitor with shock and confusion. He took a moment to hit a button that caused a force field to surround the robot, preventing itself from getting damaged by any of the cruiser’s attacks. Zib then glued his eyes back at the monitor, pressing many buttons that didn’t do anything.
Even though the force field was on, the robot was no longer moving.
A new communication picked up,
“You! Scuba Diver! I cannot pick up signals from from the baby! Where is he?” One of the Zims asked.
“I saw him go inside Zib’s robot,” he answered.
“Why did he go inside the robot?!”
Another Zim joined the communication.
“BIG ZIM CANNOT SHOOT FAKE NUMBER 1!” Another voice spoke, “BIG FAKE NUMBER 1 ROBOT WONT GO DOWN!”
“There’s a force field in the way,” another voice spoke, “and I can’t communicate with the baby on what we should do next!”
More and more voices chimed in. Wow. How can he even go through here? He never expected to take a solo leadership duty.
Collecting his thoughts on what to say, he turned the speaker on again.
“Listen, Zims! Hover over the head. You can try to continue shooting the force field to see if it could break. But I think we should also let 2K handle this. I think he might be onto something.”
“Did he tell you what it is?” One of them asked.
“He didn’t tell me,” his eyes traced back at Zib. “But something tells me he’s going to confront him in person. Maybe the weaker Dib can join if he sets him free.”
He looked out, seeing Zims within the cruisers glance about each other. Possibly uncertain. But they looked back into their controls.
“Sounds good.”
“If theres only one Zim here that can get to him, we’re gonna have to rely on him.”
“Hmph. I would have charged in that mouth first.”
Palindrome sighed in relief. Maybe this leadership thing is not as bad as he thought.
“Wait! I see him!”
His eyes opened again,
“Who?”
“The Zim Baby! He’s right over there!”
Palindrome looked to see. There, 2K was seen climbing out of the mouth again, his head raising up to look at the head. Glancing about for few seconds, he found an area he can climb on as he hopped right onto the wall and started climbing.
Palindrome gazed at his friend for a short while. He turned to the speaker again,
“Start hovering over the head.”
Just as told, the ships hovered up before positioning and aiming right at the distracted Zimvoid leader. Palindrome was the last to join the army and aimed as well. Despite his aiming, his eyes still focused on the small Zim. His climbing showed to be weaker than usual, most likely because of how much his stamina was easily running out. Even so, it did not make the child give in. Palindrome sat there silently.
Come on. Come on. We trained all these months for this. Come on.
2K finally manages to get on top of the head, holding onto one of the giant antennae to keep him standing after such an exhaustive climbing. He can see him communicate with the captive Dib, the kid looking at him in confusion when responding back. Zib has now turned his head to look at the alternate version of his enemy. 2K spoked something to him. Palindrome grabbed his handle again, his finger resting on his trigger for the right moment.
2K looks back at the Dib. He speaks to him again while he walks fast paced towards-
A harsh groan escapes from the fish hybrids when an unexpected and heavy uncomfortable sensation quickly raced throughout his body. It was a feeling he never felt to the point that he couldn’t even describe it. Was it pain? He didn’t even know if he can describe it as pain. But it was as though his entire body was beginning to weigh down and grow numb inside and out. He almost lost control of the ship and it was about to make a nose dive to the ground, but Palindrome still felt conscious enough to pull the handle back, stabilizing the cruiser from falling. At least for now. But it did not stop the feeling that he was experience and it almost immediately got to the point where it felt like his mind was starting to get distracted by something else, yet he can’t remember what it is that he should think about.
Whatever it was, the awareness of his surroundings were starting to deteriorate. He groaned again, his eyes squeezing shut, and placed his hand on his bowl,
“Why do I feel...more...stupider...?”
His eyes opened, feeling the numbness on his hand getting stronger. He pulled it away and looked to see why he was having trouble feeling his hand.
He noticed that something looked strange about it. Then something came out of his hand that looked what appeared to be floating goo as he watched it turn into a darkish green color. More and more came out and he realized that his hand was look thinner. Wait....is his hand-?
Screams and shoutings were suddenly heard outside, causing him to flinch and snap his gaze away from his disappearing. He looked out. What he saw was something he did not ever expect to see.
All the ships were falling. No. They’re not just falling. They’re dissolving. Their dissolving. The screams and shoutings were so loud that he can actually hear them:
“BIG ZIMS DOES NOT FEEL LIKE BIG ZIM SELF! BIG ZIM QUESTION BIG ZIM’S INDIVIDUALITY!”
“What’s happening?! Why am I....?”
“Make them stop!”
“Everything I am is a lie!”
It didn’t even take long before he saw green goo shoot out of each of the ships, getting sucked on by the vortex that were getting stronger. His breathing grew heavy in horror, eyes tracing about everything he was seeing. It’s not just him.
The ships. Everyone. But.....why?
He looked at the Zapper. He realized something looked off about it. It looked brighter then....
He froze up in realization.
Oh no.
He was caught off guard by his body growing heavy again, each of them being worse than the last to the point where he feels like he can barely sit up straight or even concentrate on driving the ship. He tried to catch his breath again, fighting to keep his mind as much as he could as he can feel it deteriorate even more. There were even moments where he almost forgotten why he was here. Wait...where was he? What is he doing? He’s doing this for somebody. Someone...
Something urged him to shakily look up, doing his best to ignore the dizziness. His eyes finally trailed back to the head of the robot. He can only see a Dib who is captive until he saw  some small being nearly fly past him and started to grip onto his hair strand. At this point, the smeet’s body was already starting to dissipate.
His mind sprung back to life for that moment. His eyes widening to gaze at him. He quickly grabbed the handle and started dashing right towards him. Along the way, he needed to dodge anything that would stop him from reaching him. With every ships that soared passed by. Every ships that almost hit him. Every sharp turns he need to make in order to avoid getting hit. The debris of the robot. Everything.
His dissipating eyes never let go of the child, his ship continuing to speed right close to to where he was at, despite it shutting down on him. The ship’s glass dissipated, making him feel the strong wind and yet could no longer feel the coolness of it. The kid was only using one hand to hold onto the hair strand, his other hand already completely gone and his dissipation worsening. He did not have any time. His mind thought of the name he last wanted to think of. The very last thing he could remember besides all the other new memories that was that was replacing his original memories. He sharply filled in to what now felt like his lungs instead of his gills, almost as if he was regaining them.
“2K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
The child froze. He instantly turned to the source of the voice. The alternate Zim stiffened in horror.
His face. His face is almost gone. The child nonetheless still saw him, gazing at him with a dead expression. Even though there was barely any expression on his face, Palindrome can sense him trying to comprehend what was happening. But that he knew that whatever was happening, he knew that he should terrified. It had to keep hitting the fish hybrid with the conclusion that he never want any of them to believe. But it seems the worst really was happening.
They failed. They failed to defeat Zib. They failed to go back home. They failed to continue living their normal lives on their timeline. They failed to survive this void. They failed...They failed....
I failed....
He started to feel choked up, not sure if he was even able to produce tears.
I failed you.
“2K!!!!!!!”
He screamed out again, quickly climbing out and leaping out of the ship at the right moment, his arm reaching out and hoping his body can get to him on time. 2K however remained frozen. His mouth moved, seeing how they formed to say his friend’s name, even if it was just a whisper. His eyes grew heavy. Palindrome’s consciousnesses started to rapidly deteriorate.
He just needs to get to him. Just to be with him for just a...
2K lost complete grip and flew off, his body fully coming apart. Palindrome instantly lost conscious the moment it happened.

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 9 Review – Chapter 85: Destroyer
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The mundane mingles with the supernatural in a enjoyably goofy episode.
Riverdale Season 5 Episode 8
“It is better to know the truth and make peace with it.”
In a bit of selfless wisdom, Cheryl states the above words to Betty in tonight’s bonkers installment. The context being that Betty doesn’t want to tell her mother that it looks like Polly is a goner. So she goes to Cheryl basically to inquire whether she feels that her cousin’s life would have been better had she not known Jason’s true fate.
The from-the-heart response that Cheryl gives her is quickly ignored, and Betty hides the truth from Alice. Since this is an episode of Riverdale, Betty’s deception immediately backfires on her when her FBI superior Glen arrives at the Cooper household to reveal Polly’s probable fate and kick Betty off the case. (Somewhere in the night, Veronica does a breathy cover of The Thompson Twins’ “Lies”).
Anyway, let’s get back to that quote for a second: It is better to know the truth and be at peace with it. That’s going to be the mantra for this entire review, as there are fundamental truths I’ve touched upon in the past that demand to be recognized before the healing can be reached. They are:
1- Archie’s football storyline is a total snooze.
Riverdale may have leaped seven years into the future, but Archie remains as doltish as ever. Granted, K.J. Apa is killing it this season as a grizzled version of the character, but the problem of Archie’s messiah complex still drags on. There are a lot of fascinating things happening on this series right now, and all the Bulldogs stuff does is slow down the breakneck pace that those interesting storylines are moving in. Aliens are in Riverdale, nobody cares about high school football right now. C’mon.
All that said, Britta rules.
2 – Any time that this series isn’t focusing on Mothmen Aliens is wasted time.
The show is taking serious liberties by mashing up Mothman and alien abduction mythologies, which really upends my In Search Of-influenced ideology about how the world works. I’ll forgive this because putting “aliens” on Riverdale is a work of stupid genius but also because I love watching Cole Sprouse and his starter goatee running around looking totally frantic.
3 – Hiram Lodge should be eaten by Mothmen Aliens.
Am I alone in thinking this could actually happen? What a coup for the series that would be! We know that Hiram is involved in some shady business, and all his SoDale shenanigans are a cover for some big secret. Therefore the mystery of the Lonely Highway is directly traced back to Hiram. Is he working for the government? Did aliens cure his mystery illness of last year and in turn is he feeding them Riverdale’s castoffs? Nothing is off the table here. Hiram’s machinations have been the same since he first appeared, but what if he really was working for aliens THE WHOLE TIME? Wouldn’t that be insane/amazing? No other show could pull that kind of shit off.
What I’m saying here is that Riverdale has been dancing with insanity since day one and it’s time to consummate the relationship.
4 – Betty Cooper, Alien Hunter needs to happen.
She fights werewolves in the comics, so is this really that crazy?
The ultimate mystery of whatever is happening this season will likely have a logic-based answer. That’s disappointing, as the Archieverse can be shown to handle witches, so are extraterrestrials that far off? (I’m still burned by the conclusion of the Gargoyle King saga, so I’m not expecting much here). Imagine though, the writing staff wants you to think that everything will wrap up with a plausible explanation and then, boom, it gives you bona fide aliens! A dream is a wish the heart makes…
This episode did give us clarity on a few things. We learned that both Jughead’s and Betty’s investigations lead back to the Lonely Highway and the mysteries — either terrestrial or otherworldly — unfolding there. Additionally, we were reminded that even though he’s ostensibly the lead character of this series, Archie is straight-up boring when he isn’t being attacked by bears or escaping from prison. With only one more episode before an extended hiatus, I hope next week brings us some resolution even though deep down I know that it won’t.
Riverdale Rundown
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
• Jughead’s student who writes the troubling story about Mothman abduction is Lerman Logan, a reference to The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Percy Jackson franchise star.
• Old Man Dreyfus’ name is clearly inspired by Close Encounters of the Third Kind star Richard Dreyfuss, which is fitting as the supernatural elements of this season are riffing on the sci-fi blockbusters of the 1970s and ’80s. Further proof of this can be seen by Drefyus telling Betty and Jughead about how Riverdale was a hotbed of Mothmen activity in the summers of 1977 and 1982, ones in which Star Wars and E.T. respectively ruled at the box office.
• Mr. Weatherbee threatens to fire Jughead if he doesn’t stay out of Lerman’s problems, apparently forgetting that Jughead isn’t really even a teacher and is only volunteering.
• Even objectively, Archie is a terrible coach. Can we please fold him into the Jughead/Betty storyline somehow? It’s great to see him and Veronica back together but damn do they need better plots to work with.
• One of the teams that defeats the Bulldogs is the Baxter High Ravens. In case you forgot already, Baxter High was one of the schools that Sabrina attended in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
• One has to wonder how the Vixens must feel about Cheryl, a woman in her twenties who graduated seven years ago, returning to her alma mater to steal the thunder of teenagers who live in Murdersville, U.S.A. and have no other outlet besides cheerleading by performing a self-aggrandizing Lady Gaga cover. Cheryl does a lot of messed up stuff on this show, but this act struck me as especially cruel.
• There’s no Toni and very little Tabitha Tate tonight. Boo.
• I still think they should sell the Pop Tate bobbleheads they keep showing.
• Kevin gets put through the emotional and physical ringer this episode. We learn that disparaging remarks from his mother impacted his self-image so much that he turned to cruising in Fox Forest. (The fate of Mrs. Keller is unknown, so it is possible that she will make an appearance in an upcoming episode). The assault that Kevin endured was brutal to watch, but the scene between Kevin and his father was powerful and cathartic. It will be interesting to see where the character of Kevin goes from here, because it is absurdly beyond time the writers give him a personality trait other than chronic thirst.
• Someone on the Riverdale production staff must really love Friday Night Lights.
• I don’t believe for a second that Polly is actually dead. There’s more of a chance of Hiram being eaten by Mothmen Aliens or Archie getting a compelling A-plot.
• I hate on the football storyline a lot in this review, but I do find all the talk about tainting the podunk town’s football league’s prestige to be weirdly funny.
• Pop’s sells take out cold cuts too? Helluva business, that Chok’lit Shoppe.
• “I’m saying that things happen, especially in Riverdale,” declares Jughead, in the most obvious statement in the episode.
• Please let them do a Mulder and Scully thing with Jughead and Betty.
• I think there’s more Mr. Weatherbee in tonight’s episode than there has been in the entire series to date. That’s a fantastic thing.
• So is Reggie done with Hiram for good now? He is such a key figure in the comics that it would be fantastic if the series figured out what the hell to do with him.
• Having reviewed this show from the first episode, I’ve learned a thing or two about how Riverdale storylines work. Therefore I’m calling it now: Glen is the Trash Bag Killer. You think so too, I know it.
• So far this season has drawn influence from everything from cryptozoological monsters to the real-life crimes of Patrick Kearney. Next week marks the mid-season finale, and the promise of everything from aliens to Pop’s possibly being blown up by Hiram? Whatever happens, cherish it, as the show then won’t return until July.

A Ninja Warrior Love Story - Part 1
Welcome back to the world of Lily and Henry! Honestly, I have no idea how I ended up deleting my old account, but I’m genuinely more upset that I had no backups of my original work. That aside, I am beginning the slow process of rewriting my original series, A Ninja Warrior Love Story. I hope you enjoy it!
Let me know of any other imagines or one-shots you’d like to see! Also, if you’d like to be added to the tag list, just send me a message!
CW: none
Word Count: 2,230
The Story: Lily is a single woman working at a parkour gym when she meets Henry Cavill. Are they meant to fall in love or is it just a one-time thing?
At 4:30 in the morning, Lily’s alarm went off. She rolled over in her small bed and smacked her alarm to turn it off. Groaning, Lily pushed herself out of bed. With two steps, she cleared the small apartment bedroom and entered the even smaller bathroom. With the efficiency of a well-known routine, Lily got dressed in simple workout clothes. She glanced in the mirror to see a tired face looking back. For the past six months, she had been working hard to earn extra income so she could afford time off and a plane ticket to see her best friend at college. So far, it wasn’t really working out, but she had been able to save some money.
Once dressed, Lily dashed out to her beat-up old truck right outside her apartment. At 4:45 am, no one was out on the roads, so she wasn’t concerned about being late for one of her three jobs. Lily worked at a gym - not just any gym though. This was a Ninja Warrior gym. About four years ago, Lily met the gym owner, Donovan, who offered her a chance to work out at his gym. He remembered her from her track days and wanted someone to open his gym in the mornings since he was, in his words, allergic to any time before nine am. Lily quickly and easily agreed and almost immediately found herself in a world of her wildest dreams. She loved working out and training on the courses there and even considered applying to be on the show one day.
Five minutes to 5 am, Lily pulled up to the Hustler Ninja gym in Taylor, Texas. Taylor was about 45 minutes outside of the DFW area. It was basically the middle of nowhere with one good Walmart, a ghosted - albeit historic - downtown square, and surprisingly a very fancy looking Hilton resort. The keys jangling in the lock, Lily opened the gym and began turning on the lights. Donovan rented the building which was incredible in size. Large enough to house two ninja warrior obstacle courses, a half rock wall in the back, a decent-sized free-weight section, and even an outdoor mini-course. The whole place was huge and everything Lily wanted in a gym. Within two months of working there, she’d been promoted to assistant manager. She was here every Monday through Friday from 5-9, then Monday through Thursday, she went to work at her uncle's barbershop. Finally, on Fridays and Saturdays, she worked at one of the three bars in town to earn as much extra income as possible.
After dropping her gym bag in the locker room, Lily stepped out into the gym and looked around. Donovan and Daniel, or The Dude, did a good job cleaning up last night. It was actually a little surprising considering they rarely did any cleaning. Lily usually spent most of her time cleaning up after everyone. Weird. Regardless, she enjoyed the reprieve and made her way to the free-weights to start a warm-up. After 15 minutes, she was ready to begin her real training. It started with the salmon ladder followed by a few balance obstacles and finally ending with a grip training on the waving board. She was enjoying herself and almost didn’t hear the front door open again. Glancing over, she saw a tall, long-haired figure striding past her towards the locker rooms.
“Morning, Dude,” she called out. The Dude smiled and waved at her and continued on to the locker rooms. A few minutes later, The Dude appeared ready to go in long shorts, a fitted t-shirt and his long hair pulled back in a low ponytail. The Dude was the only guy Lily could think that could pull off the man-tail well. He saddled up to her and watched her jump down from the wave board.
“Morning Luck,” The Dude said to her. Lily groaned and rolled her eyes.
“Can’t anyone forget about that?!” she asked, jumping down off the raised platform and stood next to him. In comparison, Lily looked relatively tiny. Where she was about 5’5” of lean muscle, The Dude was 6’4” of muscle and weight. He got his nickname from his long hair and easy-going attitude. The Dude laughed, throwing his head back a little.
“Nope, it was too adorable,” he replied, making Lily roll her eyes even harder. “So you excited about tomorrow?” he asked when he finally stopped laughing. Lily looked at him confused.
“What’s happening tomorrow?” she asked in response to his question. The Dude looked down at her stunned.
“Tomorrow? The big celebrities are coming by the gym to check it out?” he said as if she should know already. Lily continued to look surprised by his information. “It was in the email that Donovan sent like, two weeks ago.” Lily scoffed.
“You are aware I haven’t actually checked my email since probably about 2016, right?” This time The Dude rolled his eyes at her.
“Aren’t you a manager here or something?” he asked. Lily laughed.
“Or something,” she replied. The Dude laughed with her.
“Girl, get it together,” he said, gently pushing her shoulder. “Tom Cruise and that guy that played Super Man are coming by to check out the gym. They need parkour training and Donovan is going to teach them.” Lily’s eyebrows shot up.
“Are you serious?” she asked. Tom Cruise was major. She remembered watching some of his old movies with her dad. Suddenly a pain gripped her chest and she forced herself back into the present.
“100% serious,” he replied. Lily was shocked. She definitely needed to check her email more often. They stood there talking about their favorite Tom Cruise movies for a few minutes when the opening of the front door caught their attention. Much to Lily’s surprise, her old “friend” Celeste walked in the door. Celeste was a tall beauty with olive skin, long brown hair, and stunning green eyes. She had on a matching navy blue sports bra and leggings which showcased her olive skin perfectly. Her brown hair was pulled back into a tight, clean ponytail and even from the distance she was at, Lily could tell the woman was wearing makeup.
“Well I’ll be damned,” The Dude said under his breath. Lily watched incredulously as Celeste found them and made her way across the room to them.
“Hey guys!” she said awkwardly breathlessly as she stopped just short of the two of them. The Dude and Lily exchanged a look before turning back to Celeste.
“Hey Celeste,” The Dude said cautiously. Celeste gave him a wide, fake smile that made Lily’s intestines turn. “What brings you back to the gym? We figured you didn’t have a membership anymore.” He didn’t have to look at Lily to know what she was thinking. Celeste waved her hand dismissively.
“No, silly,” she started. “I just took a few months off; went back to Cali for a few weeks; saw my brother in New York,” she made a point to look directly at Lily. Lily immediately dropped her gaze and felt her ears grow warm with embarrassment. The Dude cleared his throat.
“Sounds fun,” he said, disdain evident in his voice. Celeste picked up on it and smiled warmly.
“I just wanted to come back and get back into my routines,” she said. A thought occurred to Lily and her eyes shot up.
“You were hoping to see one of those celebrities,” Lily said, more accusation in her tone than she meant. It didn’t matter because she was right. It was evident on Celeste’s face. Celeste shifted in her spot.
“No, of course not, why would I be excited to meet a celebrity? I’ve met dozens of them already,” Celeste replied. Lily smirked realizing she’d made her uncomfortable.
“They’re not here,” Lily said, causing Celeste to look her in the eyes. “They won’t be here until later.” Lily glanced over at The Dude to see if he would correct her. He didn’t.
“Oh, okay,” Celeste said, glancing around the empty gym. “Well, I guess I’ll go get ready to work out then. It’s been great catching up with you two,” and with a small smile and shoulder shrug, Celeste bounced off to the women’s locker rooms. The Dude and Lily watched her leave and once she was safely away in the locker rooms, Lily looked directly at The Dude who shared a similar look.
“Fuck,” she sighed.
At around 8:30, Lily dashed from the gym floor to the locker rooms. She quickly showered and dressed in her usual barbershop attire: dark jeans, a blue or gray t-shirt, and her black and white Converse. Her general wardrobe consisted of these same pieces, with a few variations in the mix. She walked out of the gym to find The Dude helping another regular, Megan, on the rock wall. Though he was tall, The Dude was nimble and able to understand situations that required a certain skill. She walked over to them.
“Watch your heels, Rapunzel,” Lily called out to Megan. Her nickname came from the fact that Megan had insanely long blonde hair. It was beautiful and well-kept, but extremely long. Lily loved it. Megan grunted in response and did her best to heed Lily’s advice, but unfortunately couldn’t quite get it. She stumbled backward and landing on her feet on the mat. Groaning, she turned around to Lily and The Dude.
“I’m never going to get it,” she said with pained certainty. Lily smiled at her.
“You’ll get it,” she said. “You just have to stop pushing it and start feeling it,” she looked over at The Dude who was rolling his eyes at her.
“Haha, very funny,” he said, making Lily and Megan laugh. Lily smiled at The Dude.
“Well, I’m out y’all,” she said waving at both of them. Megan and The Dude waved back and Lily headed out to her truck. It was a very old, very beaten blue Chevy Silverado. It was actually her dad’s, but he had no need for it any more, so Lily got it. One of the few good things her dad did for her. She climbed in, started the loud engine, and puttered off into town.
The barbershop where she worked was in the historic downtown square of Taylor. Her uncle Ray owned the shop and had for several decades. Ray was an older, stout man of 60. He had a decent sized beer belly, a handlebar mustache, and piercing blue eyes. Ray wasn’t actually Lily’s uncle, but he was as close to one as she could get. He took care of her during her senior year of high school and later on when she returned from college to find nothing and no one waiting for her.
Parking her car just outside the shop, Lily got out and darted across the empty street to the diner. Inside, she ordered four cups of coffee to go and a few donuts for everyone. When she got her order, she once again crossed the empty street and walked into Ray’s shop. A few regulars were sitting in their respective stylists' chairs. Lily’s station was towards the front. She pulled a cup of coffee out for herself placing on her station, then went around the room handing the other cups of coffee out. Everyone greeted her with kindness and respect. They knew what she had been through with her parents.
Once everyone had their coffee, Lily settled in at her station and waited for her first customer, Mr. Ortiz. At 9:15, Mr. Ortiz hobbled into the shop and straight to Lily’s station. She jumped up and vacated her chair for him. He sat down and told her he wanted the usual, which for him meant a general trim of his hair and beard. Lily immediately got to work and 45 minutes later she was done and checking Mr. Ortiz out at the register. She sat back in her chair after cleaning up the area and decided to check her email. It was overflowing with spam and other junk, so she specifically searched for the email from Donovan. It was there postmarked two weeks ago. She opened it.
Hello team,
I hope this email finds you well. I want you to be the first to know that I have accepted the chance to teach and train two actors for an upcoming movie. They’ll be filming the majority of it in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, but we are one of the best-rated ninja warrior/parkour gyms in the country (go figure!). That means they will be here for a while getting the hang of certain moves and choreography.
The two actors in question are Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill. They are going to be here on Wednesday, the 17th at 7 am. We all know Lucky doesn’t read any of these, so someone please tell her. Other than that, you are all amazing!
Best,
Donovan Troy
Lily rolled her eyes at the line that she wouldn’t read the email. Though it was true, she hated how easy it was for him to read her. Anyway, she easily recognized Tom Cruise and could think of several movies she had seen him in. But, who the hell was Henry Cavill?

A Rose’s Stolen Heart
Summary: It has been three days since Audrey was kidnapped, and since that handsome thief had released her. It had also been three days since he had given her his number. Audrey desperately wants to call, but is it even appropriate to get involved with one’s captor? Jaudrey or Jay x Audrey, and it’s a sequel to “A Stolen Rose.”
Audrey had waited as long as she could possibly wait. It had been three days. Three whole days, and all that she had been thinking of was that stubbornly handsome, frustratingly cute, infuriatingly charming boy that had stolen her away from her castle the other night.
It was preposterous. The entire ordeal was absolutely insane. After all, it was most certainly not considered normal for a thief to release his target and more than that, to flirt and offer the target his number and name.
Audrey had spent her entire three days waiting anxiously, debating with herself about whether she should call him or not. She couldn’t get him out of her head, and she hadn’t even begun to think about Ben for the past three days. He had even almost ran into her, and tried to make small-talk, but unlike her old self that would have absorbed the attention eagerly, she was now preoccupied. She had more important things to think about than Ben. She now was thinking about Jay.
Jay. It was such a daring, short, and devilish name that rolled out of her mouth almost like something that was forbidden to her. But it was deliciously and tantalizingly forbidden. It was similar to stealing a cookie from the jar before dinner.
But was it appropriate to call him? Goodness, was it even appropriate to like the boy? After all, he had kidnapped her, but he had also done a very good deed.
And this great dilemma is what was keeping Audrey sitting there at her vanity, staring at her smartphone as her heart and mind furiously debated against one another.
At this moment, her mind had a mostly sound argument. Audrey didn’t know this boy. She was weak after losing Ben, and she was not at her strongest where she could easily see right through Jay. He was just some random thief that happened to be exceedingly attractive and did one good thing for her. It was nothing more and nothing less, and her treacherous heart was getting too caught up in fantasies that it shouldn’t be entertaining.
However, her heart was beating a very convincing tune as well. This boy had done a great deed. He had put aside the chance of presumably great payment, he had not harmed her once, and when she was at her weakest, he didn’t take advantage of her. He was dreamy, charming, and seemed to have a heart of gold.
The more that she thought about it with her mind, the more insane the idea sounded. But when she didn’t think, and instead let her heart rule over her, it felt like the rightest thing that she could possibly do.
Almost unconsciously, she reached over to her phone, her hand grasping the cool plastic of her phone case as she lifted the device so that she could tap the screen.
  Was she really doing this?
Audrey’s fingers hovered over the number-pad hesitantly. The phone number immediately returned to her mind. She had memorized it the night that he had given it to her, and every moment afterward, it had been chanting itself repeatedly in her mind.
Audrey’s fingers swiftly typed the number, her mind recalling the combination easily and quickly. She held her breath slightly as she stared at the call button.
Audrey was crazy. She was about to call her abductor. She was seriously beginning to wonder if she had Stockholm Syndrome. After all, that was what had been rumored to have happened to Ben’s mother, but it was never official.
Before she could control herself, she tapped the call button. Audrey sucked in a breath quickly.
Oh. Oh… She had really done it now.
Audrey sat there, anxiously awaiting anything on the other side of the line.
“Hello?” his voice came in over the phone, and Audrey swallowed, her throat suddenly quite dry as she heard the sound of his voice once again. It was as if time had stopped, and her breath was caught in her throat as she almost felt like she might suffocate from her pure amazement and the sudden swell of something in her chest.
“Umm… Hello?” he spoke again, and she started a bit, realizing that she hadn’t said anything as of yet. She wracked her brain for something intelligent to greet him with, knowing that she needed to speak soon. Amazingly, in the midst of all of her dreaming and thinking about calling him, she had never actually considered what she was going to say when she contacted him.
“Hello, is anyone there?” he questioned, and she shook her head quickly, pulling the phone away from her ear and quickly hanging up on an impulse.
As soon as she did, she realized what she had done, and she slapped herself in the forehead.
“Stupid, stupid, stupid!” she berated herself quickly, immensely irritated at the fact that she had but chickened out and hung up last minute.
She felt like beating her head against her vanity, but she instead simply groaned deeply, placing her head in her hands as she threaded her fingers through her hair.
“Nice work, Audrey. Truly amazing job,” she sarcastically told herself in the midst of her frustration.
However, she nearly fell out of her chair when her phone started to ring. She looked over at the number that appeared on the screen, and her eyes went ridiculously wide as she realized it was him.
Audrey swallowed hard, nearly panicking as she tried to figure out what to do. She hadn’t had time to plan what she was going to say, and she was completely unprepared.
“Oh, my gosh! What do I do?!” she whisper-yelled in a panic, gaping at the phone in terror.
It kept ringing, and she finally decided that, ready or not, she had to answer it. Audrey picked it up swiftly, fumbling with the device before finally managing to press the answer button.
“Hello?” she squeaked, and mentally slapped herself for how silly that sounded.
“Oh, is this Foxy?” he asked, and she felt her stomach flutter as she giggled a bit against her will. However, she quickly reigned in her emotions, regaining control of herself as she placed a somewhat sweaty hand against a burning cheek.
“Is this the Thief of the Night?”
“Oh, yeah. This is definitely Foxy,” he chuckled, and Audrey felt her knees grow a little weak at the sound. She was suddenly very thankful that she was sitting in a chair.
“Yeah, and this is definitely you,” Audrey replied, miraculously managing to keep the grin out of her voice as she attempted to muster her usual sass.
“Well, that’s kind of to be expected. I gave you my number after all,” he wittily turned it around on her, and Audrey scoffed, finding herself completely uncertain of what to say.
“So… What’re you doing?” Audrey asked, and immediately regretted the question. Of course she knew what he was doing. He was probably taking some target away to some hirer, and she definitely did not want to know about that.
“Oh, nothing much. Cruising down the road,” he answered easily, and her suspicions were practically confirmed at that moment. She couldn’t help but wonder who he had with him now.
Against her will, she strongly wondered if it might have been another princess.
“Not with a target, though, like you’re definitely thinking,” Jay added, pulling her from her thoughts, and Audrey’s jaw slackened. After a moment, Audrey couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that he had so accurately assumed what she was thinking.
“What are you doing?” he asked, a smile in his voice, and inevitably her smile grew a bit bigger as she realized where she was at and the irony of it all.
“Just sitting here in the exact spot that you kidnapped me the other night,” she told him, proud of herself for actually coming back with a good response.
“Huh. Waiting for another dashing thief to come and whisk you away?” Jay inquired, and she almost choked, despite the fact that there was absolutely nothing in her mouth. Her mind immediately wandered to the possibility that he could come back again, but she pushed away the giddy, ridiculously excited feelings that went along with that in favor of steeling herself to reply with something that hopefully sounded effortlessly calm.
“I don’t know… My window’s not open for just any thief,” Audrey pointed out playfully before widening her eyes and face-palming after realizing how embarrassing that statement was.
“Well, Princess, I don’t think that your window is quite as locked as you think. After all, I got in easy,” Jay told her with a slight laugh, and before she could quite control her mouth, her next words fell from between her lips.
“Maybe the window was just waiting for the right one,” Audrey said, and she closed her eyes in pure mortification as she dreaded what he would think of her response.
What was wrong with her? This dumb boy was bringing things out of her that she never thought would come out of her mouth. She had never told Ben these sorts of things, and she had been with him for much longer. What kind of magic did Jay have that just pulled these words as if she were a puppet on a string?
Either way, she was humiliating herself terribly at this moment, and she felt as if her face would practically melt away if she hadn’t already been turned to a puddle.
“So… Would you be interested in a thief coming to whisk you away?” Jay finally asked, and Audrey’s eyes widened as she realized that she really hadn’t scared him off. She couldn’t help but look at herself in the mirror, trying to ensure that she was perfect. She hadn’t removed her makeup, fortunately, and she gladly noted that she was fortunately not in her nightgown like last time. However, she swiftly shook her head, pulling herself out of her ridiculousness.
What was she thinking? She was getting much too involved. This was starting to go way further than just an enjoyable phone call.
But she wasn’t sure she exactly minded.
“Where would he take me?” she asked, hoping her voice didn’t sound as shaky as she felt on the inside.
“Anywhere you wanted to go,” he replied easily and immediately, and she sucked in a breath, not really knowing what to say to that.
“Okay… I guess the thief would know where to find me,” Audrey spoke, and she heard him chuckle a bit.
“I guess so. Well, be on the lookout. Word on the street is that there’s a thief lurking around your castle,” Jay told her, that wicked mischief in his voice, and her eyes widened as she realized that he must be right outside. She opened her mouth, starting to say something, but he hung up before she could even begin to address that fact.
Audrey furrowed her brow, pulling the phone away from her ear as she looked down at it. She rolled her eyes and huffed before it suddenly dawned upon her the significance of this.
He must be right outside. Waiting on her to call. Watching her.
Audrey shook her head carefully, shocked at this realization. She couldn’t help but wonder if he had been doing this every night since he had returned her to the castle. As weird as it might have been, she couldn’t deny that it did bring a certain flutter to her stomach.
Suddenly, she heard her window click as it had just the other night, and she turned quickly, seeing him standing there on the bay window once again. Audrey blinked, and he just watched her with an easy smirk.
Audrey gaped at him, realizing that he wasn’t wearing those black clothes and was actually wearing leather. It was still an odd choice of dress, but it suited him well. Of course, she was a princess, and wasn’t accustomed to much outside of pastel and soft fabrics, so anything other than that would be somewhat of a shock to her.
“What? I’m still coming in through the window without knocking. If I didn’t, it’d ruin my reputation,” Jay told her, winking with a wide grin as he stood there. Audrey suddenly shook her head, pulling herself from her thoughts in favor of standing up hesitantly as she leaned against the vanity carefully.
“I’m just shocked at your clothes,” she pointed out, and he looked down at himself.
“Hey, I do have a life outside of stealing, you know,” he quipped, and she giggled in spite of herself.
“So, you ready to go?” Jay asked after a moment, and she looked at him strangely before remembering the entire purpose that he had come. Honestly, she had ben so distracted by his choice of dress that she had completely forgotten almost all else.
“Oh… Well, I don’t really know where we could go,” Audrey told him as she strode forward, coming a bit closer. Jay looked at her for a moment before shrugging. He opened the window and turned to her.
“I’ve never been on a castle roof before. And I hear the view up there is beautiful,” Jay suggested winningly, and Audrey stared at him for a long moment before laughing shortly. She swallowed hard, watching him, and he shrugged, extending a hand to her as he faked a bow.
“Shall we?” he questioned, putting on a gentlemanly voice, but it was entirely too goofy to be realistic. Audrey smiled widely, looking down somewhat sheepishly as she stepped nearer to him. She contemplated for a moment about taking his hand, but ultimately decided to simply step onto the bay window with him. Audrey was a bit nervous to take his hand, because despite how she would have loved it, she still was just a bit hesitant.
He raised an eyebrow at her, seeming slightly impressed, and he stepped out so that he was on the ledge of stone lining just underneath her window.
Audrey’s eyes widened as she looked at the far down drop to the ground, and she swallowed hard, not sure how she was going to get out.
“You coming, Princess?” he asked, and she bit her bottom lip before hesitantly stepping out, hoping desperately that her flats didn’t slip from the ledge.
He grinned at her approvingly before starting to wedge his feet around stones jutting out of the castle and he grabbed onto the top of her window. Audrey furrowed her brow but started mimicking his actions with ease.
Jay gazed down at her and smiled widely.
“So what? You’re a princess that can climb like the best of thieves?” With the compliment, Audrey immediately felt her cheeks flare with a heat unrivalled.
“I rock-climb at school,” she replied, and he nodded easily.
“You just have it all, don’t you?” he questioned as he hoisted himself up a bit further, getting to another ledge where he could stand with just a bit of wiggle room. Audrey giggled just a bit, her giddiness getting the better of her.
“Not all,” she told him stubbornly, but her smile was affecting her impact. Jay finally reached the top of the castle, and he looked down at her, watching her climb. Audrey tried hard not to focus on the fact that he was staring at her and attempted desperately to center her thoughts on climbing.
She was almost to the top when her foot suddenly slipped when she was reaching with her hand and her eyes went wide as she screeched, about to fall to her certain death.
But before she knew it, Jay had locked his arm with her own, grabbing her arm tightly. She returned his grip swiftly, and he pulled her up. She grabbed onto his arm with her other hand and climbed the rock with her shoes as he pulled her up the rest of the way.
Between the both of them, she finally was at the top of the wall. But when she stepped down from the stone railing along the edge of the guard’s walkway, she tripped and fell into him.
Jay quickly wrapped his arms around her, placing his hands on her waist as he steadied her. They just stood there gaping at one another for a moment before he smirked.
“Didn’t think you’d fall for me that fast,” Jay quipped, raising an eyebrow, and she clung to his arms carefully, her eyes wide as she found that she almost didn’t have any breath left in her.
“You’re just awfully forward, aren’t you?” she finally shot back at him, but her effect was a bit dulled by her breathlessness as she gazed into his eyes from her position against his chest. Those eyes were even more gorgeous up close with all of those sparkles and beautiful
“I just thought that since I just rescued you from messy death, we know each other on a level that surpasses the typical acquaintanceship,” he replied smoothly, and she pulled away from him, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear as she tried to keep her butterflies under control.
“Shut up,” she muttered with a grin much too large to really mean it, and she knew he could see it easily. He had to have seen it. He looked entirely too smug as he looked at the nearby guard tower.
“C’mon, Princess, let’s go to the top,” Jay told her, pointing to the short tower, and they both started toward it, climbing the stairs as they approached the base of it.
They entered the tower, and there was a ladder leading up to the top of it where there was a clear view of the sky, and she looked to him, expecting him to take the lead. However, he just shook his head, raising his hands up as he looked at her.
“You’ve got it. You go on up,” he told her, and she nodded as she started up the ladder.
“Besides, I’ve gotta be down here in case you try to fall to your death again,” he teased, and she rolled her eyes at him, groaning.
“I was not that close to dying,” she told him.
“Oh, yeah? I think that scream told otherwise,” he pointed out, and she scoffed, a playful smirk gracing her features as she climbed.
“That is, unless you were just trying to get me caught,” Jay continued after a moment of quiet. Audrey simply laughed at that comment as she finally reached the top of the ladder. He effortlessly pulled himself up and stood next to her.
Audrey turned away from him for a moment and she felt her jaw slacken as she gazed at the beauty of it all.
Audrey’s eyes widened as she looked up at the stars and the lonely full moon in the sky. It was like the finest of inky black fabric with millions of small speckles across it. She had never really seen the stars with this limitless of a view.
“Wow… You’re right… The view is… amazing,” Audrey expressed wondrously.
“It really is,” he agreed, and she glanced at him, realizing he wasn’t looking at the sky at all and was instead just staring at her face. As ridiculous as the line was, she undeniably felt a rush of something overcoming her as she rolled her eyes at him.
“That was terribly, horribly cheesy,” she informed him, and he sighed dramatically.
“Oh, come on. I worked hard on that one,” he joked, nudging her shoulder, and she tried to fight the smile she felt coming on as she pushed back against him in equal measure.
“You did not! That’s the oldest trick in the book,” Audrey laughed as he pushed against her a little harder.
“It is not! The ‘did it hurt when you fell’ is the oldest one,” Jay insisted, and she pushed a bit, but he had moved slightly, and she suddenly found that she was pressed against him with their faces much, much closer together than last time.
Audrey swallowed as she looked into his eyes, unable to rip her gaze away as she felt his warm breaths against her face. She felt his hands gently touching her waist once again, and she took in a sharp breath as she tried to pull herself together.
He was looking down at her so intently, and she suddenly felt very weak in the knees. She put her hand on his forearm. She insisted to herself that it was just to provide additional support, but she knew the real truth. She suspected that they both knew the real truth.
“You know, you’re really pretty when you’re not tied up in my car with a nice pair of raccoon eyes from all of your makeup running amok,” he murmured, and she couldn’t even find it in her to snap back with something sarcastic.
“And you’re kind of handsome when you’re not driving me to my death,” she commented, and she noticed swiftly how they were each leaning in closer to one another.
Her eyelids started to droop a bit as he leaned in, her lips parted as he hesitated. However, after only a moment of waiting, his lips finally grazed her own and they met softly. Audrey felt as if her heart might jump out of her very chest as she took in the feel of it all.
It was almost as if she had been kissed for the first time. At least, she knew for sure that any kiss that came before this one certainly didn’t matter anymore.
However, interrupting them from their moment, there was suddenly the voice of a guard yelling, and they pulled away swiftly. She looked at him, and she realized that he was already starting to climb down the tower.
Her eyes went wide as she gaped at him. Jay’s eyes met hers, and after a moment, he smirked, winking at her slyly.
  “Give me another call later?”
“Yeah,” she breathlessly nodded, swallowing hard as she giggled.
He nodded back to her before making his way down the tower. Audrey spun around quickly as she realized that the guard was in the bottom of the tower now.
“Who’s up the--- Princess Audrey?! Your Highness, what are you doing up there?” the old man questioned, suddenly looking very respectful as he offered a bow.
“Oh, I just thought I’d look at the stars for a little,” Audrey informed him easily, starting down the ladder as she got ready to accompany the older man.
“Oh. Of course, of course. Umm, forgive me if I’m mistaken, Princess Audrey, but I thought I saw someone up there with you,” he pointed out worriedly, and she smiled secretively as she reached the bottom swiftly, dropping down.
“No, no. It was just me,” she assured him, and he nodded, offering to escort her back to her room. She agreed easily, and they began their journey to lower levels of the castle.
While she walked, she tentatively touched her lips, feeling their intense tingling. They seemed almost as if they had been electrocuted, little zaps of voltage scattering across her lips as she grinned ridiculously widely. She turned her head, hoping that the guard wouldn’t spot her expression.
And as she walked down the stairs, she couldn’t help but think that if this was Stockholm Syndrome, they needed to call the doctor because she had it bad.

By the time morning broke a few hours later, (Y/N) had learnt the entire setlist for Queen. Brian was an incredible teacher, more so than she admittedly thought he would be, and had been extremely patient as she fumbled with the fretboard and the strings. But he was hesitant to get too close to her after she had pulled his mask off. Strangely, (Y/N) had started to feel bad about it, the guilt monster clawing at her insides. Brian had tried his very best to forgive and forget the situation, but how could he? That mask was his shelter from the outside world. His shield from the venomous words of humankind. And she'd yanked it off, without a second thought of how exposing it would be for him. How hurtful. How terrifying it was. But despite it all, he still agreed to teach her, and teach her he did. Her shaky, insecure playing had slowly ebbed into something more confident, even if she didn't necessarily feel that way herself. After Brian's pushing and prodding, her fingers slowly started to glide along the fretboard, instead of stopping and starting as they had before. Her playing was pure, in tune and practically perfect in all ways it could be. Well, for a beginner, that is. To say he was impressed with the techie was an understatement, and he knew that she was already miles and leaps ahead of Adam. Brian had to get the others to see it. To see how incredible she was compared to that repulsive gargoyle with a much too heavy hand. If he could find a way for Freddie to see her in action. While she ran through the songs and covers that Queen performed on stage, Brian flicked through his brain for ideas, when it struck him. Adam wouldn't go down without a fight, he knew that much. So, maybe Brian would have to make him.
"Bri?" (Y/N)'s gentle voice pulled him from his train of thought, wordlessly glancing up at her. She gave him a wide smile "What was that song you were playing earlier? On the stage?"
"Just something I wrote myself, my dear. Nothing interesting, I'm afraid," Brian chuckled, his hair bobbing as he strolled over to her, still holding his Red Special. She looked up at him, admiration shining in her eyes.
"Can you play it for me?" She requested, shyly, instantly looking down afterwards, slightly embarrassed by her request, however, Brian just shot her a soft smile, even though she couldn't quite see it, she could make out the squinting of his eyes. He nudged her over and sat beside her, taking his guitar from her softly. Their fingers brushed in the exchange, causing a blush to rise to (Y/N)'s cheeks. Brian positioned his Red Special before placing his fingers onto the strings and beginning to strum. His technique was so much better than hers, and she couldn't help but watch him in wonder, his fingers dancing across the fretboard like it was nothing. But the song lasted a few minutes before coming to a close, much sooner than she would've liked herself.
"It's been finished for a while. I've tried placing lyrics to it but nothing I write seems to quite work with it, especially with that solo," Brian confessed, frustration lacing his words. (Y/N) pondered for a second, running over the tune in her before looking back to the curly-haired man.
"I think I might have just the thing. But they're on a piece of paper in Deaks' dressing room," She offered timidly, ducking her head as Brian tilted his head to look at her.
"Fantastic, you can bring them tomorrow. Or later tonight, I should probably say," (Y/N) face contorted in confusion at his response, watching as he passed her the Red Special back and got up from the couch that she found had been hidden behind one of the black veils.
"L-Later?" She asked, but Brian continued forward, towards his paper theatre and waxwork figures. He took the Adam shaped one and snapped it in half, looking down at it in disgust. Slowly, (Y/N) got up, propping the Red Special against the couch, and approached him while his back was still turned. He was tense and she was worried for him.
And for herself.
"Yes, unless my company has been so appalling that you no longer wish to return, "Brian sent an arched eyebrow in her direction, but stopped abruptly, breath hitching in his throat at how close she had gotten to him. So close that she could feel her breath on his face.
Oh, how he missed breathing. A part of him wished he hadn't taken it for granted. The warmth of her breath sent him reeling, practically giving her heart eyes. Brian couldn't drag his eyes away, and neither could (Y/N). He spotted a ghost of a smile on her lips and knew his heart would be pounding now. If it could. Against his will, his eyes dragged down to her lips quickly. Almost impossible to pull them away. Her lips looked so warm and inviting. But he snapped back to his senses and looked over to the boat, occasionally rocking in the water. (Y/N) noticed the way he seemed to back away suddenly and frowned a little. She couldn't place what he was thinking. He had placed a barrier beyond his orbs. Obstructed anyone from being able to tell how he felt. She couldn't exactly say that she blamed him. The behaviour he exhibited when she pulled the mask off told her all she needed to know. The girl only wished that she was able to pull all the pain, that he had maintained over the years, away. But he would never let her close enough to heal him, she understood that.
"Your company is far from appalling," Was all (Y/N) could utter, entranced by Brian, like a child meeting their favourite superhero.  Brian glanced down at her, smiling sweetly, but instantly regretted it and looked away again. He couldn't afford to get lost in her eyes. He had to take her back. He had to.
"Come, your friends and that idiot will arrive soon. Wouldn't want them thinking something dreadful had happened to you, now would we?" Brian's words were perfectly innocent but the hungry look he'd given her last time they'd met haunted her, and caused a shiver to run up her spine. Once again feeling small. Brian realised her sudden uncomfortableness and motioned to the boat, still fastened to the wooden peg. Reluctantly, (Y/N) walked over to the boat and climbed into it, sitting down silently as Brian unhooked the rope. He waded through the water, though it barely reached his knees,  and clambered into the vessel. And without another word, he cruised off, the metal gating opening with a loud rhythmic clanging.
When (Y/N) arrived back in the theatre, it was nearing 6 AM. The boys would be there at 11, knowing how Roger tended to oversleep and how Freddie would fret over his appearance for at least an hour. Deaky would fuss over everything, like a dad about to go on holiday, and Adam, well, fuck knows what Adam did that made him so late. He probably wouldn't arrive until 2 PM, 1, if they were lucky. She wandered around the theatre, eyeing the empty seats, knowing they'd be almost full later. Because, despite Adam's tasteless playing, Freddie's intriguing stage persona pulled everyone back. Roger's charming playing and golden locks. Deaky's bopping and dancing on stage. They triumphed over everything.
As she looked around, she allowed herself to look up at box five. Something told her that he'd be standing there tonight. What would Deaky say if he found out? He would be furious. No, he wouldn't. Deaky never got mad. Not at her. He was too gentle for that.  He would be devastated. A creak from behind her caused (Y/N) spin around, terribly paranoid all of a sudden. Lucille observed her with curious eyes, a small, slightly guilty, glint in them.
"Good morning, I wasn't expecting you here so early," Something in the way Lucille spoke made it very clear that she was very aware of why she was there so early. She knew more about the theatre ghost than she let on.
"Oh-oh yeah I  just needed to set some stuff up, so I came early. Y'know, to avoid Adam's shouting," (Y/N) attempted to lie, but the way she fiddled with her fingers and glanced around anxiously gave her away.  Lucille raised an eyebrow at her response before silently brushing past her, going to check one of the wires, tucking it out of the way of the stage. Something (Y/N) had failed to notice.
"You must tread carefully. He sees everything and knows everything that happens in this place," Lucille stated as she taped the wire back. (Y/N)'s head whipped around to look at the older woman, eyes narrowed slightly.
"How do you know that? How do you know him?" She asked, almost demanding Lucille for an answer, walking as close to her as possible. Lucille gave her no response, instead, waltzing over to (Y/N), who took two steps back.
"Because I've seen this before. I know what he's like, you don't. As much as you think you do, you don't, I assure you of that," Lucille replied sharply, staring down at her. Without another word, (Y/N) nodded, eyes wide and fearful, and hiked back to the backstage area. The girl took comfort in Deaky's dressing room, curling up on the couch. It was only then that she realised how drained she was, eyes slowly slipping shut. But she hardly slept, haunted by the thought of the theatre ghost.
"Adam? Is everything alright?" (Y/N) knocked lightly on the bathroom door. All she heard was a groan from behind the door. "Can I come in?"
The door clicked, unlocking, and the girl slowly pushed the door open. Adam was sat beside the toilet, eyes sunken and skin pale. Reluctantly, she placed the back of her hand to Adam's forehead. Fuck, he was burning up. Immediately, (Y/N) rushed back to Roger's dressing room, grabbing one of the hand towels he kept in there, to mop his sweat after a show. She sprinted back to the bathroom, running the rowel under cold water. The cold towel was pressed to his forehead, tenderly. Just as she pushed it against his forehead, he turned his head into the toilet bowl and spilt his insides. (Y/N) winced at the smell and noise, but wiped his mouth with some toilet paper when he came back up. Adam weakly flushed the toilet and turned back to her.
"Thanks, at least you have the common sense to help me," Adam groaned, and (Y/N) couldn't help but glare at him. God, he was a dick. He turned his face away, to look out of the opened bathroom door and her glare turned to widened eyes. On his neck, there were two small circular wounds, a tiny trail of blood leaking from them both. There was only one place they could have come from. And now she feared for her life.
"(Y/N), have you seen my- oh shit," Roger came stumbling to the doorway, dressed ready for the show. Fuck! The show! It was meant to take place in ten minutes! Roger raced inside, crouching beside the pair. "Adam, are you okay?"
"Of course, I'm fine, I'm fine. I'll be better when we've just gotten the show over and done with," Adam answered, but Roger scrunched his face up.
"There's no way you can play. You're too sick," (Y/N) interrupted, removing the cold cloth from his forehead for a moment to check if his temperature had gone up or down.
"I'm fine, you dumb bi-" Adam didn't get to finish his sentence before he was curling over the toilet again. Roger and (Y/N) exchanged a look behind his back. He wasn't playing. No matter how much he argued.
"Stay here, mate, we'll be back in a minute," Roger told Adam before grasping (Y/N)'s hand and pulling her out of the room and shutting the bathroom door behind him "We're gonna have to cancel the show."
"I know, he can't play. He'll vomit on stage," (Y/N) agreed, just as Freddie and Deaky wandered over, chatting animatedly.  However, the boys soon noticed the look of disappointment on Roger and (Y/N)'s face.
"Everything alright, dears?" Freddie asked hesitantly. Deaky looked at his girlfriend in concern, noticing the worry in her eyes.
"Adam can't play, he's sick," Roger sighed "We have to cancel the show."
"For fuck's sake! Please tell me that you're pulling my leg, Rog, please," Freddie exclaimed, running a hand through his hair, a deep frown finding its way to his face. Deaky swore under his breath, instantly beginning to pace.
"We wish we were," (Y/N) responded, shooting the band a sympathetic look.
"Is there anyone who can play the guitar just for tonight?" Deaky asked, racking his brain for other solutions, playing with the bottom of his shirt nervously.
"No, unless there's a ghost here that just so happens to know how to play the guitar," Roger snapped sarcastically, stress evident on his face. (Y/N) walked over to her boyfriend, who looked panicked and damn near tears. She took his hand into her own and brought it to her lips, kissing the skin fondly. He gave her a miniscule smile, kissing her cheek quickly.
"(Y/N) could play tonight, Mr Mercury," Lucille's voice made the group jump, startled, and turn to look at her. (Y/N)'s breath hitched in her throat. She couldn't play, she'd only just started! She may be a natural talent, but that didn't mean she could perform in front of tons of people!
"You play the guitar?" Roger's head tilted in confusion, as did the rest of the band. Deaky squeezed her hand.
"I mean, yeah, I do, but I-" (Y/N) started tensely, looking down to her shoes.
"Fantastic! You must play for us tonight, dear!" Freddie commanded, a gleeful smile returning. Roger grinned, silently cheering in delight.
"Fred-"
"(Y/N)," She looked up at the softness of Deaky's voice. His gentle touch on her skin "Please. We need you."
A sigh escaped (Y/N)'s lips and after a second of tense silence, she nodded, resulting in cheering from the three boys and a nod of approval from Lucille.
The lights on the stage dimmed, and applause echoed into the theatre. The boys made their way onstage with their instruments, but (Y/N) couldn't help but hold back, pausing before she ran on stage. The lights came on and everyone sat in the audience screamed, but there were confusing murmurs upon the lack of a guitarist. Deaky looked over at her and shot her a reassuring smile. So with a deep breath, she ran on stage, waving awkwardly at the audience. Immediately, (Y/N) was pulled into the music, playing the beginning chords of the first song on the setlist. Her fingers dashed along the fretboard, somehow managing to keep in time with the rest of the band. There was a surge of adrenaline that ran through her, filling her with joy and excitement and before she knew it, the song came to a close.
"Okay, my darlings, are you enjoying yourselves?" Freddie nearly yelled into the microphone and the audience cheered. "Good! We are too! However, I'd like to introduce you to a lovely friend of mine. Our guitarist for tonight! (Y/N) (L/N)"
The audience nearly deafened her with their screams. Everyone was clapping and hollering. (Y/N) grinned and bowed playfully, earning a laugh from the boys on stage, though she could barely hear them over the audience.
"Isn't she fabulous, lovies? I knew you'd love her, almost as much as we do!" Freddie chuckled "Alright, dears, time for a new little number, written by yours truly, liar!"
She barely realised that the show had finished until Roger was leading her off stage. As soon as everyone was out of sight, the boys laughed joyously, pulling her into a tight hug.
"(Y/N) you were brilliant!"
"Absolutely fantastic!"
"Perfect, my love!" (Y/N) could barely think over all of the compliments and the rush of performing. She swayed slightly, beginning to feel dizzy. That was until Adam wobbled over, looking dishevelled.
"She was fucking shit!" He mumbled, a bit of vomit hanging on the corner of his mouth. (Y/N) just shook her head, knowing she'd never be able to please him. Lucille made her way over, each step calculated and sure.
"Alright gentlemen, come on, let the girl have her space. (Y/N) I'd think it best if you were to be alone for a while. Just to catch your breath," Lucille suggested and the girl merely nodded, tired from her first show and, if Adam had anything to do with it, which he had to do with everything, her last. Roger suddenly tensed a little, giving Lucille a wary look.
"I'll come with you. I need to talk to her," Roger said, leaving no room for argument. Lucille only let out an annoyed breath of air, before beginning to walk to Deaky's dressing room. Where (Y/N) spent most of her time. When they reached the room, Lucille walked in with Roger and (Y/N) close behind. She picked up a rose, a black ribbon tied to it, and handed it to (Y/N).
"He's pleased with you," She whispered in the girl's ear, then leaving the room and closing it behind her.
"Something isn't right with that woman. I don't trust her," Roger grumbled, using his shirt to wipe the sweat off his face. But (Y/N) wasn't listening. She only examined the flower in her hand, admiring the black silk tied to the green stem and blood red petals. "Are you alright, love? You look as if you've seen a ghost."
"The crowd frightened me. But I loved it. I'm just exhausted- I need some time to myself, just like Lucille said," (Y/N) concluded, snapping back to her senses.
"Well, okay. Don't let the crowd's frighten you, (Y/N/N), they loved you, and I could tell you loved them. I'll leave you alone for a bit, yeah?" Roger asked gently, kissing her forehead.
"Yes, please, Rog. Thank you. I'll talk to you later," She smiled, tiredly, and Roger gave her forehead another kiss before walking out, closing the door. The rose spun between (Y/N)'s fingertips. And she found herself thinking of Brian. The more she thought about him, the more he scared her. He injured Adam, made him sick. Just so she could perform. He was sick. Twisted.
The lights flickered for a moment. Then they shut off.
And (Y/N) felt her blood run cold.

Edd and Flow, The First Night Of Summer
The air smelled of summer. Earth and ozone were heavy in the humid air, intermittent storms making their way to torment the mountains to the west. Dogs yipped at fireflies as they rose from the tall grass near the swollen creek and fluttered about like wild embers in the creeping dusk. In the cul-de-sac, dinners were being eaten, chores were being done, plans were being made. This was the last summer of childhood, the gateway to Senior Year, to college tours and military recruiters roaming the halls, to future success or the pit of immediate mediocrity.
Kevin Barr worried that he was at the edge of the pit rather than on any path to a different, rosier outcome. He had cruised through high school on the bare minimum, lettering in any sport that involved a ball and some measure of physical violence. But Peach Creek isn't scouted like Boston or D.C. or Rhode Island, and so while the bare minimum was enough to allow his athletic career to go uninterrupted, his prospects were slim. His father's voice was stuck in his head saying, 'There's always the Army.' He shrugged it off, shuddering at the prospect of getting yelled at for a living by legions of men who reminded him of his father, minus the warmth and intelligence to cushion their authority and judgement.
This was the year to pull out the stops, make every Hail Mary he could think of, even if it were Lemon Brook Junior College. Last resort. 'There's always the Army.' Last of last resorts. But that was for another day, another time. Tonight, here and now, there was a party to attend, and worries to drown.
The party started to take shape around 7. Nate's family was in California on business and wouldn't be back till the day before graduation, so he naturally became the host and organizer. The first to arrive and help set up the well-loved speaker system was Johnny, with Plank's help of course. Then came Nazz with Kevin, Rolf following with a wagon full of various types of meats in plastic and metal containers. The Kankers arrived together bearing peace offerings of several cases of beer obtained through dubious means. Nate sanctioned the deal and declared his house neutral ground.
As a dozen or so other kids from Peach Creek High arrived and took advantage of Nate's luxurious home, the question arose, 'Where are the Eds?'
"Well I mean, I invited them." Nate said offhandedly as he thumbed through the playlist on his phone, settling on an EDM song who's only lyrics were, 'feed me your love'.
Kevin groaned and grabbed a beer from the rapidly draining supply in the fridge. "Eddy's gonna say something to someone and it'll all go South."
Nazz pinched his arm and stole the beer from his hand, topping off her solo cup before handing it back, "You're just worried he'll say something to YOU and YOU'LL make a big scene."
"I thought you were all buddy-buddy with the short one now, ever since that whole cross-country chase y'all went on in Junior High?" Nate also snatched Kevin's beer and took a sip.
"Eddy's Eddy, he's always out for another scam, something to make him money or make him look good."
"Well good, because I can only play my Spoofy playlist for so long before people get bored." Nate handed back the nearly empty beer to Kevin and turned to walk out to the pool. "We need a little excitement and scandal every now and again."
Kevin huffed and turned to Nazz, "He just doesn't know the Eds like we do."
Nazz shook her head and sipped at her drink, "Maybe just Ed or Double-Dee will show up, Eddy's supposed to be moving to The City right after graduation so for all we know he's apartment shopping right now."
"Yeah, maybe just Double-Dork…"
The lights in the house all cut out abruptly. People yelped and cursed, phone screens and flashlights piercing the darkness. The speaker system shrieked, causing even more chaos.
"The Germans!" someone cried out, causing nervous laughter and breaking a bit of the tension.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, and of course Kevin…"
"I knew it, Shorty had to make an entrance!" Kevin saw a pulsing neon glow approaching the rear fence near the pool and tried to make his way out of the house, tripping on Plank en route.
"I, Eddy Reese, your facilitator, your entertainer, your guy in the know, present for you an entertainment extravaganza unlike any you've ever seen!"
A stage adorned with stadium-quality lights that pulsed and flashed along to a heavy, percussive beat with what can only be described as a crystalline hissing sound rose over Nate's rear fence. It was emerging from the lane, slowly and deliberately, billowing thick grey smoke that flowed into the yard and even spilled onto the surface of the pool, obscuring a couple that was involved in some heavy petting. It was about 8 feet tall, 10 feet wide, and 6 feet deep, with a drawn, pitch-black curtain swaying slightly as the entire traveled through the air on barely visible supports.
"Whatever this is, I'm sold." Nate had stripped down to just his boxer briefs and had managed to adorn himself with glow bracelets and necklaces, as well as what looked like a military-grade chemlight that was clenched in his teeth.
"I knew the dorks would pull something!" Kevin had emerged from the house, Plank in one hand, a pocket flashlight in the other, which he used to scan the crowd for the usual suspects.
"Chill out Kev, this looks fun." Nazz had taken off her shirt and was also covered in glowing jewelry, her bra patterned with various amorous emojis.
"Yes hot of the collar Kevin, join in the merriment and cease your sour face making!" Rolf was wearing tube socks, a jock strap and not much else.
Everyone barely had a moment to take in the sight before the stage finally settled with a crescendo of electronic insanity, punctuated by the stage-lights all fading out and back in as a deep, dark red.
"People of Peach Creek!" A single floodlight snapped on and aimed skyward, revealing Eddy standing at the uppermost level of the stage, the light making him seem villainous. "I give you, Edstravaganza!"
The lights on stage began to strobe as the curtain parted, revealing none other than Ed, standing alone and wearing a billowing robe as well as a vacant but pleasant look on his face. The lights flashed brilliantly, like a chain of precise lighting strikes that dazzled and awed the rapt audience. They slowly diminished, easing into a weak but steady pulse. Ed stared out into the crowd and the crowd stared back. The crowd stared at Ed and Ed stared back. Ed stood upon the stage, a mysterious figure cloaked in magnificence and showmanship, and those gathered were in the palm of his hand. And that was it, he just stood there. The lights suddenly snapped to their full brilliance; Ed still unmoving.
"Hey, Lumpy, you're on!" Eddy's shoe dropped down and bounced off Ed's head, eliciting no response. Kevin began to laugh.
Suddenly, Ed threw off the robe, revealing that he was stripped to the waist with an intricate network of what looked like EKG nodes and wires crisscrossing his torso and arms.
"You Got it Eddy!" Ed threw out his arms and the lights turned a mossy, aquatic turquois, the strobes speeding up as he fluttered his fingers. As he raised his arms above his head the percussive beat rose in tempo as well, a slight whining pitch emerging from the depths of the stage. He clapped his hands and the lights all shifted to violet and indigo, bathing everything in color.
A woman's voice cut through all the sound and implored no one in particular, 'Trap for me!'
And so the party raged, guided by the kinesics of Ed and the occasional, orgasmic words of unseen men and women begging the audience to perform various vaguely musical actions. The party had grown, kids that weren't even from Peach Creek were arriving with more alcohol and more than a little drama. Word had gotten out, and Eddy quickly capitalized, charging admission and harassing people that tried to cheat the house by clambering over the fence.
Kevin escaped the borderline riot by climbing onto the roof, discovering that other exhausted party goers had gotten the same idea. He was soaked in sweat, and was splattered with the contents of several chemlights, looking almost radioactive. Even after stripping off his shirt he felt like he was running hot, and a few splotches of the glowing fluid were visible on his skin. "Damnit Nate…"
"Mix a solution of one teaspoon liquid dishwashing detergent, one-fourth cup distilled white vinegar, and one cup of cool water."
Kevin was startled and looked to the far end of the roof. Edd was sitting comfortably on a padded camping stool, with what looked like a control panel balanced on his knees. He was dressed casually, possibly owing to the humidity, wearing a tank-top with a design of the solar system across the chest, a fanny pack, and a pair of vintage men's athletic shorts that looked more at home on a beach in Florida than in a Peach Creek cul de sac.
"Oh, hey Double-Dee… uhm… what?"
"The recipe I gave was for a simple mixture that will clean the luminescent fluid from your clothing without ruining the color." He looked Kevin over and giggled.
"What's so funny?" Kevin felt his face get warm, though not in anger, more embarrassment, like he'd been caught with his, well, his shirt off on a rooftop in the dead of night.
"Oh, nothing, just having a laugh over the small amount on your skin, it's quite amusing."
"Yeah, Nate decided he wanted to write his name on his 'property' and went around trying to write 'NKG' on me and a few others." Kevin wiped at the fluid, smearing it more and transferring it to his palm.
"Well I see you escaped the branding, though not wholly unscathed." Double-Dee set down the control panel and walked over to Kevin, taking the glowing hand in his own. "Luckily this chemical is both non-toxic and simple to clean off."
Kevin watched Double-Dee consider his hand like some kind of specimen, a wave of prickly, cold needles washing over him at the coolness of the raven-haired teen's fingers played across his skin. Kevin felt warm, unusually warm, and while he could chalk some of it up to the rave going on just past the lip of the roof, he felt the odd sensation that it had something to do with the boy holding his hand. His other hand moved to his stomach and likewise smeared and stained itself, Kevin watching it with detached confusion.
"Oh my, now both your hands are glowing." Double-Dee lightly took hold of the other hand as well, making a flustered face that bordered on the maternally annoyed. "What are we going to do with you?"
Kevin didn't know why but his hands closed around the other boy's fingers, not harshly, not menacingly, but just enough to press them fully to against his own. Again, the difference in temperature between the two stirred up some bubbly, anxious humor in his belly and further south. Was that it, was it just that he was slightly colder, and his body was reacting to it? These thoughts and more came to a halt as he felt Double-Dee's hands squeeze back.
"Is something wrong, Kevin?"
The redhead instantly released the boy's hands and set about neurotically searching for something to do with his own; stuffing them in his pockets, wiping his forehead, scratching his belly, sliding under his very sweaty armpits, and finally hanging uselessly at his side. "Ah, no, just, your hands are cold, is all."
"I have poor circulation, Father ties it to my lack of physical exertion but Mother attributes it to an old Vincent family malady, we're all slaves to our genetics in the end." Double-Dee smiled pleasantly at Kevin, totally nonplussed.
Kevin nodded and nodded and grunted something akin to "uh huh, uh huh" without truly understanding a single word he'd said. It would seem impossible but a quiet settled between the two while the impromptu concert dominated the soundwaves all around.
"You two are cute."
The pair jumped, Double-Dee letting out a small squeak and Kevin throwing his cap at the now glowing Nate laying luxuriously on the roof nearby.
"Don't do that!" Kevin shouted.
"Do what, lay on MY roof watching MY friends get… friendly?" Nate flung Kevin's cap back at him.
"Nathaniel, you startled me." Double-Dee tugged at the front of his shirt, airing himself out.
"I have that effect on people." He stood and walked over to Double-Dee, putting him in a very intimate hug, soaked in sweat and chemlight fluid, still dressed in only his boxer briefs. "You really outdid yourself with the light show, makes Eddy's promoter shtick almost tolerable."
Double-Dee, clearly dismayed by the physical contact and the unsanitary state of Nate, nodded and tried his best to escape the teen's embrace. "Y-y-yes, ah, Eddy can be rather overbearing where profits are involved, I hope you won't hold it against him."
"No, but I'm fine with this situation as far as holding things against other people goes."
"While I appreciate the levity you're approaching the situation with I think I should go and try to calm Eddy down, as well as check on Ed, he must be parched."
"Yeah, Nate, I think Double-Dweeb has better things to do than get dry humped by you." Kevin knew his hands were balled into fists but for the life of him he couldn't explain why.
Nate nodded and released Double-Dee with a cartoonish, meaty, sucking sound as they came unstuck from one another. "Very well, please see to the evening's festivities."
A loud thud and a sudden burst of shrieking feedback came from the stage, the lights all snapping back onto flood-mode. Dismayed boos and surprised shouts came from the sizeable crowd below. The trio looked out and saw that Ed had collapsed to the floor in an inhuman puddle of sweat.
"All Done!" Ed wheezed from his place on stage.
Eddy fought his way to the stage, pockets and a backpack bursting with bills. He climbed on stage and began trying to revive the larger Ed, using entreaties and threats in equal measure.
"Oh dear, Ed must be absolutely exhausted, curse my curiosity!" Double-Dee started as though to leave but paused and turned to look at Kevin, biting his lip.
Kevin was frozen to the spot, his knees locking up and leaving him vulnerable to a stiff breeze. Double-Dee approached and removed a sky-blue bandanna from his fanny pack, using it to lightly scrub at Kevin's palm, lifting some of the glowing fluid.
"There, see, nothing drastic, just a little elbow grease, which I'm sure you have no shortage of." Double-Dee squeezed Kevin's bicep, pausing in appreciation, then hurried off, bidding Nate a brief farewell in passing. Kevin noticed a large letter 'K' written on his back in chemlight fluid.
"I couldn't help myself, after your Saved By The Bell moment I had to."
Kevin, unable to respond, walked towards the edge of the roof, Nate standing beside him. "Nate… not a word."
"What about a tasteful nude drawing?"
Kevin put his hand to Nate's back and gave a firm shove, sending him flying out into the crowd. As Nate surfed the rowdy sea of teens and the Eds alternatingly argued and tended to their friend, Kevin looked at the unremarkable blue bandanna and felt the unfamiliar cool needles attack him all over.

I have tagged this fic “possible eventual smut” and that’s because right now I don’t have any planned buuuuut… I'm going to leave that option up to you guys! Between the readers here and AO3, if you're still with me by the end of this fic, leave a comment and let me know if you would be interested in an epilogue or end scene with smut. I’ll post a reminder at the end, but keep it in mind while reading.

Chapter 1:
    “Jim, no!”
Two words Jim had become most accustomed to hearing in their now almost four years in space. Also, the two words Jim had gotten very good at weaselling his way around.
As their fellow crew mates piled into the loading bay around them, Jim laid a gentle hand on his best friends shoulder, giving it a light squeeze before saying, “Bones, I don’t know what you're so worried about. We’re going from the ship to the planet’s surface, nothing is going to happen.”
“I already hate these flying metal death traps as it is, Jim, I don’t need the added headache of you on one of them alone.” Bones was near tomato red at the distress he felt in this argument, but Jim insisted it had to be this way. Didn’t mean bones had to like it.
“I won’t be alone, Bones,” he smiled at his friend, “I’ll have fourteen other cadets on board with me.”
Bones scoffed, turning away from Jim for a second before rounding on him again, “You mean fourteen fresh out of the academy cadets, who have no idea what they are doing, let alone what protocol is if something should happen! And I don’t see any of them in medical blues, so what good’ll that do ya?!”
“Bones!” Jim exclaimed, chuckling a little, “I don’t know what you're so worried about? What could possibly happen in the short distance from here to there?”
“Anything, Jim!” he threw his arms up, slapping them hard against his thighs, “Anything could happen in this god forsaken black nightmare! And if I'm not there to help you, who will?!”
Jim couldn’t help but laugh, “Bones, why did you ever apply for Starfleet?”
The doctor shook his head, he knew why, but it was the “who” that mattered in that equation. The “who” that kept him in line, that kept him focused, and who forced him to remain in the academy rather them turning tail and running for the hills like he had wanted to after his first flight simulation training. It was Jim, he was the reason why Leonard had made it this far. “Kid, I think you know exactly why I dragged my sorry ass all the way up here. Had a lot to do with an over adventurous and dangerously impulsive, sandy blond.”
“Awe, Bones, you're making me blush.”
He ignored Jim's comment as he continued, “Not to mention cocky, clumsy, accident prone-”
“Alright, alright, I get it,” he shook the doctors shoulder lightly, bringing his eyes back to look at his own, “even though nothing is going to happen, I promise to be careful. Now, you just get on the smaller ship with Spock, Ny, Sulu, and Chekov, and I’ll take the new cadets and meet you down there, okay?”
Bones furrowed his brows, still not happy with the outcome, but Jim was giving him no other option. “I don’t like this, Jim. I should be with you on that shuttle, just in case.” Jim only huffed a small sigh in response, “And why do you always have to be Mr. Fantastic? Let someone else take the kids alone, or at least let me come with you.”
Jim turned his best friend, then pulled him into his side with an arm around his shoulder, “Because it would be nice to have some words of wisdom and guidance coming from their captain. Going on your first ground mission is scary, Bones, I want to make sure that they know they can trust me and come to me for help if they are scared. And I can’t bring you along anyways. There’s a rumour going around amongst the younger cadets about a certain grumpy doctor with an arm full of hypos ready to attack. They’re afraid of you, Bones, having you there staring them down wont help their nerves.”
“My hypos are only for you.” Jim smiled at that. “But I guess you have a point.”
Jim walked Bones to the door of the smaller shuttle, waiting outside for Bones to step in before he turned back to look him in the eyes once again, “Don’t worry, Bones, we’ll be right beside you, it’ll be fine.”
“It better be,” he grumbled in typical Bones fashion, before clasping Jim on the shoulder, allowing his hand to linger for just a moment, then letting go as the door to the shuttle closed between them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    When the door to Bones’s shuttle were fully closed and sealed, Jim turned and made way for the larger shuttle to his left. The shuttle that held fourteen fresh and nervous cadets, probably not ready for their first ever ground mission.
    Jim entered the shuttle, it was dead quiet, and every single cadet sat wide eyed and slightly pale in their seats. He knew it would be like this. Though the original crew of the enterprise was not given the luxury of a small and harmless field test, and were instead thrown into the crisis on Vulcan head first, he still expected nothing more then this.
  “Cadet Velnium,” he announced as he made his way to the front of the shuttle.
    “Aye, Captain!” A sharp looking young man stood quickly from his seat in a stiff salute to Jim, who smiled and shook him off.
    “Take us down to the surface, Cadet, follow behind Commander Spock's shuttle to our right.”
    “Aye, Captain!” the dark haired young man bounced past Jim and towards the helm, powering up the shuttle and waiting for the others to lead the way before following them out.
    As the shuttle cruised out of the belly of the Enterprise, Jim stood before the rest of the cadets, they needed something to get them through and ease their minds.
    “Cadets,” he began, all eyes instantly whipped up to meet his, “this is your first away mission, and I know you're all very nervous, but I have chosen one of the easiest missions the Enterprise has ever been sent on. So there is no need to be nervous. This planet has been previously visited by other federation ships in the past. If you’ve all read your mission statements, which I hope you have, you will have noted that the planets surface is non-hostile, with breathable oxygen, and no noted threats in the other ships logs. We are landing on the surface for approximately one hour to retrieve a handful of flora requested by the academy’s research department. Once we have acquired what we need, we will be returning to the Enterprise, mission completed. Any questions?”
    The shuttle remained silent, all eyes still fixed on him at the front of the group.
    He let go his most charming smile, making sure to give the cadets a second to take a breath and soak it all in before continuing, “Now, I know I'm your captain, but I don’t want that to intimidate you. Should you come into any trouble or have any questions at any time, I want you to feel comfortable enough to come to me with your concerns or suggestions. Here on the Enterprise we work as a team, as a family, and you are now a part of that. So, before we land, I would like you all to-”
    Before he could finish the shuttle was violently jerked to the left and Jim was sent flying into the opposite wall. Alarms started going off all around them, the shuttle suddenly being covered in a glow of red, and the screams of the cadets filling his ears.
    Jim instantly sprang into action, launching himself off the ground and planting himself in the seat beside his young pilot. He strapped himself in and commed the Enterprise, connecting Spock's shuttle to the call, “Kirk to Enterprise, we’re under attack, repeat, we are under attack and require immediate assistance. Do you copy?!”
    Scotty’s voice rang clear through the shuttle, “Aye, Captain! We see ya!”
    Spock's voice was the next to hit Jim's ears, before it was abruptly cut off by Bones screaming into the comm, “Jim, what the hell is going on?! Are you alright?!”
    “I'm fine, Bones… for now.”
    Jim's shuttle was hit again, this time hard enough to jostle them off path and away from the planets surface, “Shit!” he muttered as they took a third hit.
    “Jim!” Bones was still screaming into the comm, Spock clearly having given up, “You're way off course, we’re coming around for you!”
  “No!” Jim shouted this time, “You're close enough to the surface now and their ships are backing off your shuttle. Land on the surface and keep the crew safe, that’s an order.”
    Jim rarely pulled the captain card with Bones, he hated to do it, but he knew if he didn’t Bones would make sure that shuttle was turned around and the entire crew would be in danger. It was bad enough that Jim's shuttle was taking fire, he didn’t need two shuttles caught in the middle.
    “Jim-”
    “Bones, listen to me, please,” the channel went silent, the cadets behind him went silent, but he didn’t care and continued pleading his case to his CMO, to his best friend, “Please keep the crew safe. Get them to the surface and when the Enterprise tells you its safe then head back to the ship. After that, when it’s all clear and you’re safe on the Enterprise, then you can come get me, Bones, but not until you’re safe.”
    Jim felt like he was only talking to Bones now, not the rest of the crew, but Bones. Of course he cared about every single member of his crew, but he needed Bones to be safe, he needed him to be alive and well inside the walls of the ship. If he didn’t have at least that peace of mind, he wouldn’t make it through whatever he was about to face.
    “Jim, I…”
    “Spock!” If anyone would listen, it would be him.
    “Aye, Captain,” came the oddly comforting monotone of the Vulcan, “I will assure that the Doctor is returned to the ship safely, you have my word, Jim.”
    “Thank-you, Spock,” Jim’s shuttle was hit for a fourth time, sending them even further away from their ship, and with no where else to turn, they had no choice but to keep travelling in that exact direction, “Bones…”
    “I'm here, Jim!” The two of them sounded almost hysterical now, but Jim knew he had to hold it together as best he could for the cadets behind him.
    “Bones-”
    “Jim!”
    That was the last Jim heard from Bones or the Enterprise as their last hit knocked out all their comms. The only thing they could do was continue tying to outrun their attackers and hopefully find a safe planet to land on between here and there. The Enterprise was too far gone to help them now, and Jim had already made it clear that the shuttle containing the bridge crew and Bones was to be brought back on board before anything else was attempted.
    Jim took a subtle, but calming breath, and plastered on a brave face for the young pilot beside him as he continued to try and get comms back up, “Cadet Velnium.”
    “Aye, C-Captain,” came the shaky response.
    “We’re going to try to out run them, or at least stay in front of them until I can find us a safe planet to land on. You can do this, you were top of your class in flight training, so if anyone can get us to safety it’s you. Just stay calm and focus on your task.”
    The cadet gave Jim a brief nod, the shake in his hands becoming less visible as Jim's words of encouragement sunk in. Jim returned the nod and continued to work on the ships comms. Hopefully he could get something back up and running or else, if worse came to worse, the Enterprise would never find them, and Bones… he would never know what happened to him, and Jim wasn’t sure he could live with that guilt, even in death.
