And the 5 year thing seems to be the first time Narinder meets the kids, does that have to do with the 10 years apart? And if so how the fuck did Nour get “pregnant”? 3. Conflicts across the globe

While this blog focuses on Palestine, there are other conflicts that deserve our attention. Please consider donating what you can to one or more of the charities below, or share the links with friends and family.

Democratic Republic of the Congo 🇨🇩

7 million people have been displaced due to violence between armed groups and government. Millions more face disease, starvation, and continued violence.

Focus Congo - founded in 2016 by a Congolese refugee Pappy Orion who escaped the Congo during the first and second Congo Wars of the late 1990s.

Help Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo- This effort, organized and run by Women for Women International, supports Congolese women escape violence and recover through education, job training, access to doctors, and cash assistance.

Sudan 🇸🇩

Violence between opposing factions of the Sudanese security forces have resulted in over 8.5 million people being displaced and millions more struggling to access food, medicine, and safety.

CARE International Switzerland - CARE has been in Sudan before the current conflict and runs programs helping refugees.

International Rescue Committee - IRC has increased their ongoing efforts in Sudan and have launched new programs to address water and sanitation.

Malk and Ahmed Al Zaeem (@malkzaim): Malk is 14 years old. His grandfather suffers a spinal injury but there is limited meidcal resources in Gaza. Malk and is family is trying to evacuate and ensure his grandfather receives essential medical care abroad. Suad Ahmad (@suad-ahmad): Suad and her husband have an infant son Khaled who is born during the current war. Her infant son developed a severe fever due to a chest infection. They, along with her family, are stranded in the streets of Al-Bureij, where a bombing attack and ground invasion is imminent according to multiple sources (!) If you think that the only way of helping Palestine is going to a protest, then you're not thinking big enough. While protests are amazing, and we need to keep the pressure on Biden and the other world leaders, here's some things you can do in your daily life that also help.

🍉 Follow the BDS list. I'll link some resources of what not to buy and what is safe. I know this gets confusing, but I'll try to give you all the resources you need to make informed decisions.

🍉 Give money to Palestinian organizations. Just like the BDS list, I'll link all the resources I have. Lots of them are helping on the ground to provide aid and give Palestinians a chance to tell the world whats going on.

🍉 Follow Palestinian journalists. I'll link a lot of them down below, but they are the best way to see what's going on right now.

🍉 Listen to Palestinian people. I'm white, so I only want to use my voice to uplift Palestinian ones in this issue. I will stand hand in hand with them and use my privilege to push them to the forefront, but I never want to to take the spotlight away from them.

🍉 Learn Palestinian History. I'll link some great resources I found that helped me learn the history of the Nakba, the constant degradation of Palestinians by Israel, and why this issue needs to be talked about until Palestine is free.

update: state of this blog

hi everyone. i’ve been kinda on a slight hiatus, and haven’t been on here a lot to interact or post. most of my posts have been queued.

frankly, life is seriously catching up to me. between life things and mental health running this blog has become less of a priority. but i’ve come to really miss this community and the little space i created for myself, and im finding myself wanting to come back more and more as time passes.

so that’s what i’ll try to do. writing and fics will still be pretty inconsistent but i do have some things in the works, including FINALLY getting done a bunch of requests.

besides all this, i have some fun life updates i feel like sharing:

firstly, in late december, i got engaged! although there’s no wedding date or any plans for a ceremony yet, im very happy and truly am so content with my relationship.

when it comes to my family in palestine, they are still essentially on house arrest in worry of settler violence, but have been able to leave more to get things like groceries. being there for them has become difficult with all my occupations at home right now but thankfully my sister has stepped up to that role.

and in general, despite being very busy, life is beginning to settle again. i’m feeling much more confident and relaxed in my skin and definitely feel that i have more space in my life to run this blog. hopefully you’ll all be seeing me more.

Attacks against human rights defenders and obliteration of civic space in Gaza unacceptable, says UN expert

Israeli Defence Forces continue to intentionally starve and kill civilians, while human rights defenders face enormous challenges conducting their peaceful work, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Mary Lawlor said today.

In recent months the oldest human rights organisation in Gaza, the Palestinian Human Rights Centre (PCHR), has seen staff members killed and its offices damaged beyond repair in air strikes and ground attacks by the Israeli Defence Forces.

“There is literally no place left for human rights defenders and civil society actors to continue documenting the litany of human rights violations to which Israel is subjecting the people of the Gaza Strip,” the Special Rapporteur said.

Two women lawyers from the PCHR were killed in February 2024. Nour Abu al-Nour died along with her two-year-old daughter, her parents, and four siblings in an air raid on her house in Rafah on 20 February 2024. Two days later, Dana Yaghi and 37 family members were wiped out in an Israeli air raid on a house to which they had relocated for safety in Deir el-Balah, 14 km south of Gaza City.

“It is a terrible tragedy that justice for these two women human rights defenders, their family members and their children, seems so far away. Human rights defenders keep hope alive for justice through their work but are becoming victims themselves. This is why Israeli authorities seem so intent on targeting and silencing them,” she said.

The PCHR headquarters in Gaza City and branch offices in Jabalya, Khan Younis, and Rafah have all been severely damaged in air raids and ground attacks, forcing staff to relocate and rent office space and logistical support at skyrocketing prices, while some international funding has been suspended. They have also been subjected to a vitriolic online smear campaign by the Israeli group, NGO Monitor, which has falsely accused PCHR of being linked to terrorists.

“Human rights defenders have told me that they will continue their work despite this online defamation, which is targeted at drying up their international support and intimidating them,” Lawlor said.

“This organisation continues to bear witness, document and record gross human rights violations and war crimes. Many Palestinians have spoken to them on condition of anonymity. Such is their fear of Israeli repercussions if they are to be publicly identified.”

Recent media reports have highlighted Israeli surveillance of PCHR, and other Palestinian human rights organisations, including Al-Haq and Addameer in the Occupied West Bank, for much of the past decade, in relation to information they were submitting on Israeli human rights violations to the International Criminal Court.

“I repeat my call for human rights defenders to be recognised as essential in times of armed conflict, and to be protected. As independent observers, lawyers and researchers, they document and preserve evidence of violations of international humanitarian and human rights law and ensure the possibility of accountability and justice,” Lawlor said.

The physical integrity of Human Rights Defenders should be protected against attacks and harassment, unlawful killings should be promptly and independently investigated in accordance with international law, and measures adopted to protect them against future serious violations, she said.

The expert has previously raised these concerns with authorities in Israel and in the occupied Palestinian territory.
