Surprise us🌹
Hmmm 🤔...Let’s see...I have a few Jay Halstead fic's waiting to be finished. So, let's show him some love today.
Tumblr media
This fic is untitled at the moment, but here it goes, lovely:
(this one is pretty spicy 👀)
“Be my good little mistress and take me to your place right now. I Want to fuck you stupid.”
This is from a Halstead fic titled, "Peaked Interest."
“It’s fine baby. I know you love me. There is no need for me to be jealous. Forgive me if this comes off as arrogant, but I'm confident enough to know that I do my job both in and outside of the bedroom as a husband. Knowing that my tongue or fingers alone can bring you to tears is more than enough proof,” he groaned as he traced patterns on the outside of your panties.
Hope you enjoy them🥰💓! Be sure to let me know how you liked them. Reblogs and comments are greatly appreciated! If anyone else is interested leave a 🌹 in my inbox and I’ll share a line from a WIP.

Low Effort
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Y/N gets a surprise visit, which triggers some unpleasant symptoms
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1k+
Tags/Warnings: mentions of stomach cramps, slight allusion to anxiety, negative emotions
A/N: Long time no see! This is a thing I needed to get off my chest and needed to get the emotions out, so it’s just some Jay comfort/fluff. Also, a warning that I haven’t written in so long, this kind of feels a bit meh, so I hope I haven’t lost too much of my writing touch LOL
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You closed your laptop shut, just as your phone lit up with a notification about a new message from Jay.
Sorry, got held up. 10 minutes. Tops.
You smiled, typing a quick response of acknowledgment to tell him not to hurry before you got up, grabbing your bag. You were too fried to continue anything else so you figured you would just go and wait for him. Fresh air was better than whatever was coming through the office vents.
As the glass doors of the main entrance on the first floor slid open and you felt the chill of the Chicago winds hit your face, you sighed. Fresh air was definitely better.
“Y/N.”
You glanced up, your eyebrows naturally bunching together at the sound of a woman’s voice.
As your eyes met hers, you froze for a moment, your brain still processing the fact that she was here.
“Amy?” Her name slipped past your lips before you could stop yourself, even though the only emotion you were feeling at this moment was surprise. There was nothing positive or negative about it.
Amy could feel it in your voice as well. “Can we talk? I’ve missed you.”
You frowned as a cramp shot through your lower abdomen.
“I thought we were better friends than this. Low-maintenance, remember?” Amy said, and you could hear the tone in her voice, the one she used when she was upset or disappointed.
The feeling of indignation shot through you once again.
“Yeah, low maintenance, not low effort.”
Your voice was low but you didn’t let the emotion sway it. You spent years telling yourself that it was just a low-maintenance friendship, that you were both just busy, but you couldn’t ignore the way she’d reappear in front of you only when she needed your support, or when the guy she was seeing was out of town.
You glanced up at the street but hadn’t seen Jay’s car yet.
You exhaled. “Look, Amy. You have your priorities, I get it. Just don’t expect me to drop mine when you blow back into town or when your boyfriend doesn’t have time for you. It doesn’t work that way.”
You felt the cramps intensify and knew what it was. You called it “emotional cramps” with Jay, joking that as long as he kept you happy you’d be fine. Yet, here they were again. Maybe it was because you hadn’t had them in a while, you felt them more intensely now.
You put a hand on your stomach as you looked up at Amy. As expected, she had an indignant look on her face.
“How could you say that, Y/N? I know the fact that I was seeing Trevor was a sore spot with you because you weren’t seeing anyone so I didn’t want to make things harder for you. But now…”
You couldn't even respond as the pain ripped through you once again and you bent forward slightly, your knees buckling a little. You braced yourself for the impact of your knees hitting the concrete sidewalk when you felt his arms around you.
“Babe, what’s wrong?”
Jay.
Amy seemed stunned for a moment before she spoke again, “It must be her…”
“Why’s it acting up?” Jay asked, his entire focus on you as you glanced up at him and quietly shook your head.
Jay glanced up at Amy. They didn’t know each other since you’d met Jay sometime after contact between you and Amy had dwindled to almost nothing. By the time you and Jay had started dating, you’d made up your mind to let go of Amy and this friendship, and it had merely nagged at you a little at the back of your mind from time to time so you hadn’t brought her up.
“Come on, we’re going to Med,” Jay said quietly, pulling you upright.
You glanced at him. “Don’t you dare carry me,” You warned.
Despite the worried look in his eyes, Jay smiled. “We’re going to Will.” He repeated, almost like he was daring you to argue.
You didn’t argue. Partly because all you wanted to do was get out of there but partly because you knew it was useless. Besides, the pain was more intense than you remembered.
Without a second glance back, Jay helped you into the car and drove off, both of you leaving Amy still standing on the sidewalk.
Tumblr media
You knew what had triggered the attack, so after getting medication for the pain and cramping, you’d been feeling much better.
“You know I’d be feeling even better if you would stop hovering, Detective.” You said, directing the comment at your boyfriend.
Will smiled as he tapped on the iPad in his hand and glanced at his brother. “She’s fine. Her tests are normal, and it was probably just a one-off stress-related attack.”
You nodded. “I’ll follow up with my therapist, I promise.”
Will ruffled your hair affectionately and you growled because he knew you hated it.
“I’ll get the discharge started.”
Jay was quiet as he leaned over you, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead. “You sure you’re okay?”
You nodded, before you glanced back down.
“Amy’s an old friend.” You said, after a while. "At least, she was."
Jay didn’t say anything, so you continued, telling him about how Amy was when she started dating anyone, and it only progressively got worse. “And it’s not about seeing her often, you know? It’s just…”
Jay nodded. “You didn’t feel like she cared.”
You sighed quietly. “I just… it got to a point where I realized she didn’t care. I was a friend when she needed me, and when she didn’t, I just… didn’t exist. And apparently, to her, that’s me being sore.”
Jay just took your hand in his, gently stroking your fingers.
“But I just realized it was better to have no one than to be treated that way, so I just…”
“You don’t have to explain anything to me,” Jay said quietly. “Listen, someone who gives you low effort doesn’t deserve you. I don’t care who they are. Anyone who makes you feel this way doesn’t deserve even one percent of you.”
You looked up at him and smiled, a little sadness hidden behind it.
“I guess seeing her today just brought it all back, you know? And then it triggered all those emotions and then my stomach cramps decided to join the party.” You made a face.
Jay smiled quietly back at you. “But you know what? You’re not alone. At least not anymore.”
You smiled and leaned forward for a hug. Jay perched by the edge of the bed, pulling you gently into his arms and you buried your face into his shoulders, feeling his arms encircle your entire body.
“I know.” You whispered.
Jay kissed the top of your head. “Good.”

“Baby I’m home!”.
Jay’s voice caught your attention and raised your head, immediately directing your gaze towards him. You were lying on the couch, your hand caressing your baby bump as you watched a stupid show on the TV. You almost jumped for joy when you heard your husband’s voice, happy to no longer be alone and joyful to finally see his face after such a long day.
You tried to lift yourself up and sit on the sofa but with your belly now as big as a hot air balloon it was quite difficult. You let out a sound of frustration at the same moment you saw Jay appear in front of you, a bright smile on his lips.
“Here let me help you sweetheart,” he said, holding out both of his hands to you and helping you sit up. He sat down next to you, and you smiled at him before giving him a kiss on the lips.
“Hi baby,” you whispered into the kiss as his arm wrapped around your shoulders. “I missed you so much.”
“God, I missed you so much more mama,” he smiled into the kiss before placing a hand on your bump and caressing it, turning his attention to his unborn child. “And I missed you too, little one,” he continued, leaving a tender kiss on it “You were a good boy to mom, right?”
You – while trying to maintain a sense of decorum and not burst into tears at that sweet scene – stroked Jay’s hair, making him turn his head towards you. You were used to hearing him talk to your belly but that didn’t make your heart burst with joy any less every time. “He was a little pest, he didn’t stop kicking for a moment.”
He chuckled before turning his attention back to your baby bump again. “What did dada tell you? Let mom rest and then when you get out of there you can take it all on me.”
“How are you feeling love? How was your day?” He asked, settling back on the couch and wrapping his arm around your shoulders, his fingers playing with strands of your hair.
You sighed, a little distressed. “It was boring as you could see from all the texts I sent you, I did nothing but lay here on the couch. God, I can’t wait to give birth.”
He left a kiss on your temple, and you rested your head on his shoulder. “I know baby, but it’s only a few weeks away. I wish I could do something to make you feel better,” he spoke tenderly. He tried to be present as much as possible, to do everything in his power to make you happy and make the pregnancy less burdensome but the truth was that he couldn’t do anything to fill the sense of helplessness you felt.
You and Jay had been working together in Intelligence for years now and never in your life you thought you’d miss the job so much, chasing criminals and catching them. Being pregnant was truly an indescribable experience and you never thought you’d feel so much love for a little being growing inside you and that hadn’t even been born yet, a love so deep you thought your heart would explode.
But you couldn’t deny the other side of the coin either: the sleepless nights, the back pain, the nausea, the hormones and, above all, having to constantly rest. You tried to do some office work, but Voight had forbidden you to even do that, with obviously Jay’s support.
You felt like you were going crazy.
“How was your day?” You asked your husband, playing with his fingers as he continued to stroke your hair and cuddle you.
“It was hectic.” He sighed. “We didn’t stay in the unit for even ten minutes, we worked on a case of an armed robbery with a deceased victim as I already told you…” He continued to speak but the sudden sound of your sobs made him stop in the middle of the sentence. “Babe oh my God, you okay?”
You covered your face with both of your hands, no longer able to keep the tears at bay that continued to pour out of your eyes. You didn’t know what came over you at that moment, which is why you blamed the crazy hormones.
“Baby, talk to me please,” Jay continued in an urgent and concerned tone. “Did I say something wrong? Look at me.”
“I-I’m fine,” you murmured with shaky breaths. He grabbed your hands and pulled them away from your face, but you refused to look at him, continuing to cry and sob.
“Love please look at me,” he said urgently. “You’re make me worry to death.”
“I-It’s nothing…”
He gently grabbed your chin, forcing you to turn your face towards him and look at him. His heart sank as he saw your eyes so shiny, although it was a sight he had reluctantly become used to due to the hormones and your mood changes.
He wiped away the tears with his thumb, gently and lovingly caressing your skin, making you cry even more.
God, you hated this.
“It’s okay mama, I’m here with you. Talk to me, what’s bothering you?”
You sighed. “I feel so useless…”
A confused and bewildered expression appeared on his face. “What you mean useless?”
“I sit here all day doing nothing…” Another sob escaped your lips. “I can’t go to work, I can barely cook anything without getting out of breath… I can’t even do house chores without having to sit down after five fucking minutes and you’re forced to do everything when you come home from work tired…”
“Stop, stop,” he interrupted you. “I won’t hear anything else about this nonsense love. You’re the mother of my child, you’re growing our little baby, there is nothing more important than this.”
“But…”
“No, no ‘buts’. You have no idea how much I admire you princess, how much I envy your strength. You’re growing a whole human being inside you; you have any idea how fucking wonderful and awesome this is? You’re creating a new life and along with this, mine too because, believe me baby, I have never felt so alive in my entire life. You have no idea the gift you’re giving me and nothing, and I mean nothing I can do will ever be enough to repay you for everything you’re going, damn baby you’re growing our family.”
His fingers caressed your face, continuing to wipe away your tears and smiling at you with so much warmth and sweetness you felt your heart was about to stop.
“You’re not useless, you’ll never be. I can’t even imagine how hard it is, or how you feel but I will always be here to help you, I will be with you every step of the way.” He kissed you, tasting your salty tears. “Do you have any idea how much I love you?”
You shrugged playfully trying to hold back a smile and he chuckled at the way you were crying a minute ago and now you were smiling. He hugged you, wrapping his arms around your shoulders and letting you rest your head on his chest.
“But I love you so much more,” you murmured, eyes closed as you breathed in deeply that scent made you feel like home.
“Mmh I don’t think so.”
“There are two of us so you can’t win this one,” you replied, “Thank you so much love, I wouldn’t know what to do without you.”
“Shh don’t even say it.” He caressed your hair, smiling even though you couldn’t even see him. “How are you feeling now?”
The moment he asked you this question, your baby gave a particularly hard kick in your womb, making you immediately sit up straight and put a hand on that spot where you felt it.
“Woah woah baby you okay? Is he okay? What happened? You need something?” Jay began peppering you with questions in his overprotective way, his expression instantly twisted with anxiety and worry.
“I’m fine, he’s just kicking,” you replied, taking a few deep breaths. You took Jay’s hand and placed it on your baby bump seeing the way his tight features visibly relaxed and a huge smile grew on his lips.
No matter how many times he felt his baby kick, every single time was more emotional than the previous one. Jay leaned towards your belly again, pressing a kiss on it. “Hey buddy it’s dad here, how about you let mommy rest for a bit? She had a bit of a rough day… But don’t worry I’m always here, dada is waiting for you so eagerly and he loves you more than his own life,” he whispered, talking to his unborn son as he used to do every night since he found out you were pregnant.
You smiled, struggling to hold back the tears again as you caressed his hair and imagined the moment when you’d finally become a family.
You imagined the moment you’d see Jay pick up your son for the first time, how much he’d be loved by his mom and dad and the more you looked at your husband – the love of your life, you everything, your safe haven – the more you thought you could’ve never chosen a better father for your child.

alive | j. halstead
summary: chasing down an offender doesn't go quite as planned (dw it ends fluffy)
pairing: established (married) fem!reader x jay halstead, platonic!reader x adam ruzek
word count: 1.75k
warnings: canon-level violence, gunshot, hospitals, medical inaccuracies
a/n: meet a seasoned fanfic writer's first fic about jay <3 please let me know what you think of this !! also it was originally written in 3rd pov so if you see anything wrong, no you didn't ---- You followed Adam down the alley, weapons drawn. "Chicago PD! Stop!"
You felt your lungs burn as you raced down the alley, nodding when you saw Adam silently gesture to enter through the front door, and he would take the back.
Noticing the door was already open, you walked in, eyes alert for any sign of a victim or offender.
Hearing Adam call out a "clear!" you opened your mouth to do the same, but didn't make it that far as you heard three shots ring out, feeling two sharp pains tear through your body.
Adam, having seen the offender shoot you, quickly fired a round of his own weapon, pressing a button on his radio. "5021 Ida, shots fired by offender and police! We need an ambo to our location, plain-clothed officers at the scene, one in need of urgent medical care!"
Near the end of the block that you and Adam were on, Jay's head shot up to meet Hailey's, hearing their coworker's distraught call into the radio.
The two sprinted out of their location, and down to the abandoned house, hearing the sirens grow louder.
"Ruz! Where are you guys?!" Jay called, stomping through the house.
He felt his heart plummet when he saw his wife on the floor, bullet hole in your shoulder and belly, Adam holding his jacket over the wounds.
"Y/N!" He fell to his knees next to you, letting out a breath when you looked at him.
"J-Jay, I didn't see him coming." You mumbled, breaths shaky.
"Shh, it's okay, hon. You're going to be alright." Jay reassured you, his hands trembling as he reached out to stroke her the back from your face. He shot a panicked look at Adam, who was still pressing down on the bullet wounds.
"Ambo's en route, Jay," Adam said, his voice tight with worry. "She's strong, she's gonna pull through this."
Jay didn't answer, his attention solely focused on his wife. He held onto your hand, willing his strength into you. "Hang in there, baby."
"I'm trying," you answered weakly.
Just then Voight and Kevin Atwater stormed into the room. The sight of you on the floor left them momentarily stunned before they sprung into action. Voight acknowledged Ruzek with a curt nod and Atwater immediately moved to Jay's side, helping apply pressure to your wounds.
The sirens outside grew louder as the ambulance neared their location. It wasn't long before the paramedics came rushing in with a stretcher, immediately getting to work on stabilizing you for transport to Med.
As they carried you out of the house, Jay followed closely behind, fear etched on his face but determination in his eyes. He watched as they loaded yoiu into the ambulance before climbing in right after them.
The team was left in the eerily quiet house -- a stark contrast to the chaos moments ago. Voight looked around at his team, each one wearing an expression of concern and fear for their colleague.
"Everyone alright?" he asked gruffly, though there was a hint of concern in his tone.
Ruzek and Atwater both nodded, and soon the team made their way to Chicago Med, making home in the waiting room, wanting to be there for both you and Jay.
Jay, having hopped out of the ambulance as you were unloaded and ushered into a trauma room, a few nurses stopping him from going in. "Jay, Jay stop!"
The detective pulled a hand through his hair, looking at his older brother, Will. "Will, you gotta help her, man."
Shaking his head, he nodded to where his coworkers Dr. Marcel and Dr. Choi were working on you, who had since lost consciousness. "I can't, bro. She's family, against hospital policy."
Jay hit the wall, tears coming to his eyes. "I can't lose her, man. We just got married, this can't be the end."
Will clapped his brother on the back, jaw tense. "They got her, Jay. She'll be good, she's a strong one."
The two brothers watched as you were rushed into emergency surgery, being told to wait in the waiting room for any updates.
------
Jay stared at the clock on the wall across from him, watching the hands move as time passed. It had been two hours since you were taken to the O.R., and as much as Will tried, he wasn't able to get any more information out of his coworkers.
"Hey, man." Adam walked over to Jay, handing him a coffee.
"Thanks." Jay spoke, voice raw. "You saved her life, Ruz."
Adam shook his head, sitting next to Jay. "It was my idea to split up. If we stuck together, maybe she wouldn't have gotten hit."
Jay looked at his friend. "Don't blame yourself, Ruz."
The two detectives sat in silence, only perking up when Will and Dr. Marcel walked out into the waiting room.
"Is she-" Jay cut himself off, unable to finish the question.
"She's alive. We got both the bullets out, there was some damage to her shoulder, but we were able to repair it all."
Jay let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, grateful smile on his face. "Can I see her?"
Dr. Marcel shook his head. "Not right now. She's being moved to a recovery room in the I.C.U., a nurse will come out to bring you to her when she's settled."
"Will she still be able to be a cop?" Adam asked, the question plaguing him ever since he saw you hit the ground.
"With physical therapy and rest, Y/N should get full function and mobility of her shoulder. It won't be fast, she'll need lots of rest."
Jay thanked the surgeon, shaking his hand before he walked away.
------
Once the team had all heard that you made it through surgery, they headed back to the district to close up the case, the offender in CPD's morgue.
Jay sat up when a nurse walked over to him, smile on her face. Maggie, he recalled, from when Will introduced them a while ago. "She’s awake, she's asking for you."
Rising from the uncomfortable seat, Jay groaned as his back cracked, following Maggie down the halls to the I.C.U.
He smiled when he finally laid eyes on you, blinking blearily as the door opened and you saw your husband.
"Jay," you sighed in relief, her voice barely a whisper.
His breath hitched in his throat as he approached the bed. Your face was paler than he remembered, hair fanned out on the white hospital pillow. The sight of seeing you awake, those sparkling eyes looking at him despite being clouded by painkillers and fatigue, was enough to bring tears prickling in his eyes.
"Hey, baby," he murmured, carefully taking your hand and pressing a kiss to it. "How are you feeling?"
You gave a small wry smile. "Like I’ve been shot twice."
He chuckled weakly, stroking your hand with his thumb. "They said you did great in surgery."
You shrugged slightly, wincing after. "I don't remember much."
"They also said you’ll need a lot of rest and physical therapy for your shoulder."
You nodded slowly. “That’s okay. I can handle it.”
Jay looked at you, admiration clear in his eyes. Despite having just woken up from surgery and being shot twice, you were still trying to put up a brave face.
"There's my soldier," he said softly, brushing a loose strand of your hair from her your-drenched forehead.
Just then there was a soft knock on the door and Will walked in followed Dr. Marcel.
Dr. Marcel greeted you two with a warm smile as he approached your bed. He checked on your vitals before turning to Will and Jay.
"She's doing well considering the circumstances," Dr. Marcel reported.
Will nodded, sending you a comforting smile. "Should be able to get discharged in a few day’s time."
You nodded, looking at the sling your arm was in. "How long do I need to wear this?"
Dr. Marcel smirked, Will had warned him that his sister-in-law wasn't one to sit around and do nothing. "At least a month, but it depends on how your physical therapy goes. But, for a couple weeks, you can't move your arm. We had to repair some muscles in your shoulder, so it'll be sore."
You nodded, thanking the doctor as he left, Will following.
Jay looked at you, sad smile on his face. "Ruz is blaming himself."
You frowned, trying to sit up, wincing as your abdomen throbbed.
"Hey, hey, take it easy." Jay helped you sit up, making sure you were comfortable.
"Can I see the team? At least Adam, I want him to know it wasn't his fault." You looked at your husband, who nodded and pressed a kiss to your forehead, heading down to grab the team.
------
After a few days, you were finally able to leave the hospital. You had signed the discharge paperwork, and Jay walked back into the room after pulling the car around, soft smile on his face when he saw you struggling to get her coat on, one arm still in the sling.
"Here, let me help," he offered, walking over to you. He helped you put on the coat, paying extra attention to not disturb your injured shoulder.
You met his eyes and offered him a soft smile. "Thanks, babe."
Jay just nodded, his throat choked with emotion. He was relieved that you were okay but knew you had a long way to go for your complete recovery. He gently took your hand, gave it a squeeze, and lead out of the room.
As they walked through the silent corridors, you leaned into him slightly. It was subtle but Jay noticed it immediately. He wrapped his arm around you, offering her comfort and support. The worry lines on his face seemed to deepen as they moved towards the exit of the hospital.
Outside, the city was bustling as usual. The harsh city lights reflected off Jay's face as he helped you into their car before moving around to sit in the driver's seat.
The ride home was quiet. The only sound was the low hum of the engine and the occasional honk from nearby traffic. You were staring out of the window, mind lost in thoughts while Jay focused on driving, occasionally glancing over at his wife.
“Hey, Jay?” You looked over at him, voice quiet.
Jay hummed, glancing at you while he pressed on the gas petal when the light turned green.
“Just,” you paused, feeling a teenager in love again. “I love you.” ---- a/n: did u like it? also please don't expect good titles ever titles always make me wanna punch a brick wall

You had just gotten out of your car across the street from the side of Med and, as you were making your way through the bit of road that led to the hospital, a car comes into the driveway — screeching tires, in full speed — and runs you over long before you could even see anything and, there, in the matter of a few seconds, everything goes black and you’re left bleeding out in the street.
Almost an hour later, after you had regained consciousness and had begun dragging yourself, very slowly, towards the hospital, Will and Ethan, about to go inside Med, spot you and run your way eager to help you out — even if they hadn’t known it was you at first.
“Oh man, it’s Dr. (y/n) (y/l/n)!” Ethan exclaimed.
“(y/n), can you hear me?!?” You sort of heard Will ask through your dizziness haze.
“Wow, you’re actually shorter this up close than I had imagined at first.” You attempted a joke with your friend, momentarily gaining some clarity.
Ignoring you, Will just asked no one specifically, “oh Lord, how long has she been bleeding out here?”
Decisive as always, you heard as Dr. Choi commanded, “I don’t know but, come on, Will, let’s carry her to the ED!”
As soon as your friends get inside the hospital with you, everybody stays in shock for a moment until Maggie yells: "get her in treatment 4, now!"
Following her lead, Will and Ethan get started on treating you, who has a few broken ribs, and free fluid in your belly besides from a punctured spleen. Having done their best in the ED, they decide to send your upstairs for surgery with Crocket.
Once you're going to surgery, Miss Goodwin tells Maggie and the doctors to call PD and specifically ask for Intelligence, since you were friends with the unit. As the cops get there, one stands out: Jay Halstead. He's frantic, devastated-looking, just completely lost, and desperate to hear more news about your condition. No one really understands why he is reacting like that, but all of them do share the fear of losing a great friend. Voight's giving out assignments to the team, so Jay knows that that's when he needs to speak up.
"Um, sarge?" All eyes are on him. "If you and the team don't mind running one man short today... I was hoping that I could, um, stay here with- with her?" Hank just stares at him, unlike everyone else — who are shocked — the older man's focus is on his detective's eyes, on the way he was so distraught from the moment they got the call about (y/l/n). That was the behavior, the look, of a terrified man. And, as everyone there knew, Jay Halstead — the freaking war vet — wasn't one to get scared easily. "(y/n) and I-"
"It's fine. No need to explain. You should stay here, Jay. Let us know, in case anything changes. And we'll catch the son of a bitch." He said firmly, making Jay feel as appreciative as ever, and, also, sending an implicit message to all the other members of the unit, one that said: we work this with all we got right now, for (y/n), and for Jay, no questions asked.
After the officers left the hospital, there was still a big commotion from everyone who stayed, because it was one of their own up there in the or. But, surpassing everyone else's, was Will's surprise by how distraught Jay looked, especially considering how his little brother wanted to stay at the hospital, instead of going to find who hurt you. So he comes to confront the detective about it. "So... You and (y/n) are a thing?" Will asked, trying to understand. Since Jay just nodded his head, he decided to push a little further: "And... Were you ever planning to tell me? What the hell, man?"
"Will, I-"
"She's one of my best friends, Jay! Not to mention the fact that I'm the doctor who oversees her work here!"
"Will you put it down?" Jay pleaded with his brother, motioning him to a more reserved corner of the waiting room. "I know, okay? I know. And I'm sorry if it upsets you, man, I really am. But this could've blown her career. That's why we hadn't told you yet." It was clear that Will didn't exactly like his brother's explanation, but he knew it was true.
"Just... How long?"
"Um, about six months?"
"Six months?!" The doctor yelled in shock, then repeated it in a lower tone. "But, six months?"
"Yeah, I know it's a lot of time keeping you in the dark, Will. But, trust me, we weren't thrilled about it. And we were hoping to tell you soon. I swear." Jay said, and his brother could, once again, see it was the truth.
"So, that means that when you started seeing each other she was still finishing med school?"
"Yeah, that's right. Which was, like, the main reason for us to keep it under wraps. An intern dating the attending doctor's little brother? Wouldn't look good."
"That's true..." At that point, Will took another look at his brother. Jay looked so worried and scared, even while trying to hide it. "So, uh, you guys are serious?" That question got a little smile out of the detective.
"Yes, we are. I know that it is new for you... But, I love her, Will. I really do." He took a moment to breathe, not being able to hold back some tears this time. “And, I can’t lose her. I just can’t.”
“Jay…” Will started saying but didn’t quite know how to continue. What could he possibly say to comfort his brother right now? “We just… We just gotta stay hopeful, okay? (y/n) is a really tough person and Dr. Marcel is a great surgeon, you know it. She is gonna pull through.”
A lot of disquieting hours later Crocket finally comes out of the surgery, just to be met by a very worried hospital staff and an on-edge Jay Halstead.
"Where is sh- How is she? Is (y/n) okay? Can I see her?" The detective hovers, not even taking a breath.
"Wow! Uh, you gotta calm down a little, buddy."
"Don't give me that crap! Just- just tell me how she is!" Jay shouts again, not giving a damn about what anyone was thinking. You were the only thing on his mind right now.
"Alright. But try to keep breathing, okay?" To that, the other man didn't even bother to answer. "Okay, um, it was a very complicated surgery, I had to do a lot of cleaning and moving around to get to the worst parts and-"
"Can you please just cut to the part where you tell me if she's okay? No offense, but you can fill me in on the details later." Jay stated nervously. It wasn't just that he wanted to know what was the result of all those hours in the or, but, also, because Jay knew he wouldn't understand half of what Connor was saying, even with the simplified language. You would. But not him.
"Right. Okay. She's, um, she's okay for now. We'll need to monitor her on an hourly basis, though." By that point, the surgeon could already see the relief on both Halsteads' faces, so he went on. "We controlled the bleeding, but, with all the blood loss," he stopped to take another look at the detective, "I'm afraid," another pause, because, sure he had delivered this kind of news before, but this time it was a lot harder, because those people were his friends. And, what they had just lost, he had just lost too, in a way, "we couldn't save the baby."
"The baby?" This time he got an answer from both brothers.
"Uh, uh... You, uh, you didn't know she was pregnant?" Crocket asked, kind of already guessing the answer while sharing a look with Will.
"Oh my God..." It was all the youngest Halstead managed to let out. Seeing how his brother was unable to react any further, Will decided to step up and ask the tough questions.
"So, um,  if everything goes well from now on, you think that (y/n/n) will make a full recovery?"
"Ahhh, yes, actually. She was in great health, so, after making it through, uh, through the night, she shouldn't have any major issues." At that point, Marcel himself was trying to be as objective and as doctorish as possible, in order not to make things worse for the man who had just heard that he lost a child he didn't even have a chance to wait for.
"So, is it, um- is it possible that she didn't know about the pregnancy yet?" But, damn it, Will just kept asking all the impossible questions.
"Uh... It is, actually. Very possible." Hearing that, the detective immediately glued his eyes on him. "We estimate that the fetus was about seven weeks. It's very common that women on birth control haven't found out about it at that point." As neither Halstead said anything, Marcel continued, "well, she's up in the ICU now and in and out of consciousness but, if you want, you can see her for a few minutes."
Hearing that, the detective came out of his haze and said: "Yeah, I wanna see her!"
A few hours later, as Will Halstead gathered his things after finishing his shift, he decided to go check on you but got surprised when he realized that his brother was still there, in the waiting room. "Jay, what are you still doing here?"
"I'm waiting," he said simply.
"Jay." Will called again, "you can't do this, you need to go home, get some sleep, eat…"
"I'm not leaving her alone."
"She's not gonna be alone, Jay." Not getting any response, Will decided to lead with something else. "You know, Voight called Goodwin and said that they're hitting a lot of walls in the (y/l/n) investigation…" Measuring his brother's reaction, Will continued: "Maybe they'd have better luck working with the whole team…"
"Yeah, you're probably right. Tomorrow I'll tell Voight that I want in on the investigation." Jay said, not making any sign of wanting to leave.
"Jay, you can't work tomorrow after staying here the whole night!" Seeing his little brother still not intending to leave, he threatened, "if you don't go home right now, I'll call Voight myself and tell him that you're in no shape to work-"
"Oh, c'mon! You're gonna do that!"
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you," Will said, looking as serious as they get. "Look, Jay, you know she's in good hands here. And, whatever happens, you'll be the first to know, I've made sure of it."
"But-"
"But nothing, Jay! It's time to go, come on!" Will pressed so much that Jay resigned himself to do as his brother told him.
For almost a week, you stayed in the ICU. For almost a week, Jay Halstead passed by Med on his way to work and on his way home from work.
Once you were moved to a room, Jay started feeling like he could finally breathe again, even though there was now the baby that someone had still to tell you. And, after chatting with Will and Crockett, Jay had already decided he was gonna be the one to deliver the news to you. So, one day, after Intelligence had already caught the drug dealers that were running away when they hit you, Jay asked Voight for the afternoon off to take you home from the hospital.
When you were at your place, you asked Jay what was going on: "Hey, you didn't say a word on the way here, is anything besides the fact that I just spent almost two weeks in the hospital and that everyone found out about us wrong?"
"Let's sit down for a minute, babe."
The minute he said that, you knew there was something really wrong.
"Okay, you're scaring me…" You said while sitting down on the couch.
"I just- I have something important to tell you," and, like that, Jay proceeded to tell you the worst thing you ever heard. It's not like you'd been planning on becoming a mother or anything like that anytime soon but it was still a possibility that was brutally taken away… You and Jay cried together for the first time and, consoling each other, you felt your relationship growing stronger.
So much so that after some time you could start talking about the future that both of you foresaw with one another and, even though nothing was completely decided, there was one thing you knew for sure: as long as you were together, you could face anything.

How Many Detectives Are Needed To Sleep A Baby? || Jay Halstead x reader!
Cute and fluffy Jay, wife and baby + babysitter detectives
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Tumblr media
Summary: Intelligence unit takes care of Jay's newborn baby while he and his wife are in court. Turns out it is the most difficult case they have worked on.
-"You can't go in there". Platt muttered in a scolding tone to Adam, who wanted to go into the coffee room.
-"Why not?" He asked strangely.
-"Shhhhhh". Kim gave him a punch on his arm. -"Keep it quiet, you're gonna wake her up".
-"Ok, alright". Ruzek kept his voice low. -"What the hell is going on, girls?"
-"Halstead's baby is sleeping in there. Don't you dare to interrupt her sweet dreams, bro". Kevin said from his desk.
-"Look at her. You can see her smile even from here". Hailey said, peeking through the window.
Trudy and Kim followed her.
-"She's so lucky she didn't get her father's mad face". The Sergeant enquired.
-"What do you think she's dreaming about? She looks so peaceful".
-"What's going on? Where's Jay? Where's her mom? What is she doing here all alone?" Adam was losing it, increasing his voice volume once more.
-"She's not alone. We're taking care of her!". Hailey frowned.
-"Adam, please". Voigh silently got out of his office and rushed towards him whispering. -"Would you keep it down? I can hear your voice even with my door closed. Let the baby rest, she's only weeks old and already has seen too much".
The detective opened his arms in a defeated gesture. He had just arrived and didn't understand anything.
-"Y/N is testifying right now, we couldn't avoid it. She and her colleagues published the investigation under their names, so...I couldn't stop it. Jay is by her side. The baby is here for protection".
-"She really is a hell of a journalist". Upton mentioned with admiration.
-"And a very brave woman. We owe her a lot in this case". Hank stated.
-"You know? You would have known about this if you had arrived in time to work". Burgess teases Adam.
-"Is there any news about the trial?" Platt wanted to know, worried about you.
-"Not yet, but Jay said he'll be in touch". The boss stated. -"You know these trials take time".
They weren't conscious about it, but the whole Intelligence squad looked hilarious talking with whispers and walking in tiptoes as they went back to their workplaces.
Time passed and the girl was still sleeping safe and sound, until Adam decided to stand up to stretch a bit and stumbled with some cables on the floor. Naturally, the clatter woke up the little baby.
-"It had to be you, right?" Kim mocked her husband as she helped him stand up.
Hailey and Kevin ran to the coffee room as if they were running a race. It was him who got there first and held the baby girl.
-"There, there. Uncle Kev is right here". He tried to reassure her. -"I had siblings and took care of them when they were babies. I can manage another one".
But after a few minutes, she was still uncontrollable.
-"Ok, it's my turn". Burgess got into the game and took the baby off his partner's arms. -"I'm the only mom here, the only one who has a real daughter. I know how to do it".
-"What are you talking about?" Trudy Platt laughed. -"Makayla was already a grown up when you adopted her!" And she grabbed the baby to accommodate her in her chest. But the crying did not stop.
-"Oh, no. What are they doing to you, sweetie?" Upton grabbed her and laid her in her arms. -"I am her godmother, she knows me better".
The baby Halstead slowed down her crying, but she was still restless.
-"Well, how many detectives do you need to sleep a baby, hum? You don't know anything". Hank Voight gasped. -"Give her to me, I'll show you all". But as soon as she was in the arms of the boss, her crying increased. -"Oh. I've lost touch!"
Jay and Y/N were already at the bullpen, waiting in the stairs. They got in time to witness the fluffy scene.
-"Hey, guys? She's not a rag doll, you know?" Jay said laughing at the scene and his friends turned around with surprise. -"She just needs her daddy's arms''. He took his daughter to stroke her and almost immediately she calmed down.
-"That's not fair". Platt crossed her arms.
-"We brought you coffee". You smiled, leaving the box you were carrying on one of the desks. -"There's not enough caffeine when you take care of a newborn. There's one for each of you, just as each of you like it. Look for your name in the tags".
-"Geez, thanks!" Adam said gladly and balanced the table. -"I was denied entrance to the coffee room the whole morning".
-"I'm sorry". You turned red.
-"Don't listen to him". A chorus of detectives said.
-"She's really calm, it was no problem". Kevin asserted and everyone else agreed.
You approached your husband and as soon as you were in your daughter's sight, the baby started to smile and giggle, throwing little kicks into the air.
-"What? Why are you laughing so much, baby?" You raised your hands and freed Jay's arms. -"Come with mommy, sweetie".
Everyone stared at the scene with tenderness, especially Kim, whose eyes started watering.
-"You wanna hold her?"
She just nodded and took the opportunity.
-"How was the trial? Are you alright?" Platt inquiered.
-"Yeah, I mean it was really scary, but I think it went fine". Y/N hands started to shake a little bit, but she was fast enough to hide them in her pockets. Nobody noticed, except for Jay.
-"She did a great job". He hugged you by the waist, trying to secretly ease you.
-"I have no doubt about it, she already showed us how much of a badass she is". Hank smirked.
-"I will just be more comfortable if you stay in here at least until the Jury deliberates, or as soon as I can go home with you. It's just a precaution, I'm not being paranoid or something".
-"Yes, I agree". Voight followed the idea.
-"Sure. Whatever you think is better".
The baby yawned and stretched herself so adorably, that she caught everyone's attention again.
-"I should put her down to sleep".
-"Alright. Take my seat, Y/N. We don't know how much we're staying here". Jay pointed out.
-"C'me on, Kim. Give the baby back to her mommy".
-"If you need help with the baby or you get bored of these people around, I'll be downstairs". The desk Sergeant winked at you and you smiled back at her back.
-"She won't be bored. She has me here". Hailey pulled a face.
-"I'll take provisions just in case the little one takes the coffee room again". Ruzek rushed to the kitchen.
Everyone else rolled their eyes in a funny way.

Jay Halstead: Sensory Overload
I’m not sure how I feel about this one...But I spent the time writing it so you might as well get the option to read it. It was definitely better in my head.
Warnings- Mentions of sensory overload, minor violence
There is now a part two To Be Continued
You continued tugging Jay down the hallway of the police department. He and Adam had just gotten into a loud and unnecessary fight. Jay had been irritable for the last few weeks from the pressure of this case that involved an old military buddy of his and Mouse weighing heavily on him. He had crossed the line when he had swung at Ruzek connecting firm with a well-aimed hook that had knocked the other officer flat on his ass.
Jay hadn’t protested when you had grabbed him by the arm and dragged him out of intelligence and down to the locker rooms. But he did when you pulled him through the room and into a smaller hallway out the back. “I know, I know I shouldn’t have hit Ruzek-” You snort at that. “I said I know I fucked up.” You open a half-empty supply closet, and the lights flick on automatically. You pull Jay into the room and the door slams closed behind you. “What the hell. If you're looking for a hook up all you had to do was-”
“Shut up Jay,” His eyes meet yours before you reach back and flip off the light switch. He expects a forceful kiss and you to start tearing at his clothes. Why else would you possibly take him into a secluded room and turn off the lights? Jay wasn’t complaining. You were an attractive woman, and he would have to be blind not to notice. He is taken aback when instead you release your grip on his forearm, and he feels you shift back a step. “Just take a few breaths,”
“I’m not having an anxiety attack.” Jay shoots back his voice bouncing harshly off the walls. His skin crawled when he thought others viewed him as vulnerable.
“I know,” You soothe, “Just for once listen to me. Take a minute.”
Jay scoffs, muttering to himself as he shifts on his feet before reluctantly doing as you say. He is already here, standing in the dark, feeling more than a little bit ridiculous. He might as well oblige you. It takes almost a full minute before he understands. He can feel his body reacting to the change in stimuli.
When he had been up in the intelligence bullpen it had been stiflingly hot with the air conditioner being broken down. His clothes had clung to him making his skin feel too tight and like his nerves were trying to crawl their way out of his flesh. The florescent lights had been making his eyes burn and he swore the hum from them was echoing through the room. Everything was loud in that room. It seemed like everyone was yelling instead of talking, the noise reverberating through his head and making his head and behind his eyes throb.
This room is cold and dark. The only sound is the two of you breathing and the hum of the air coming through the vent. He could feel his irritation calm. His body was relaxing, the throbbing in his head dulling. It was as if a dial had been spun down to the lowest setting on everything. Jay sunk into the feeling.
When his thoughts returned to him, he wasn’t sure how long you had both been standing in the dark room. “How did you know to do that?” He had whispered but it sounded louder, breaking through the silence.
“It helps me, I was hoping it would help you too.” You whispered back. “Sensory overload can be completely consuming.”
“Sensory overload,” Jay repeats trying to think if he had ever heard anything about it when he had done his mandatory counseling in the army. It sounded vaguely familiar but nothing concrete when it came to information. That's when it occurred to him. “Is this where you sneak off all the time?”
You hum in agreement, “It helps when I’m having a hard time. When I need a minute to myself before I get back to it. I hope it helped you too.” You feel slightly awkward. You had been so sure that it was what Jay had needed when you had drug him down here. He sounded better but you couldn’t be sure. The two of you weren’t close. It was mostly your fault. You were on the shyer side, not a detective but a forensic scientist for the department.
Jay was cocky and sassy, always sure of what he was saying. It was intimidating. Not to mention you found him just a few degrees too high in the looks department. Despite that, he was a sweet guy. He had, on more than one occasion, stopped people from talking over you or butting in when you were laying out forensic information. At first, it had been awkward knowing you had everyone's full attention on you when giving your reports. In the end, it gave you a confidence boost.
You hadn’t been thinking when you had grabbed his forearm and yanked him to follow you after he had laid out Adam.
“It did,” Jay rasped, “Thank you.” He was closer to you now. You could feel his body heat like a walking furnace burning next to you. You trembled as you thought of the implications of the two of you being locked in this room together. His own words about hooking up ring back through your ears. You had flushed brightly with embarrassment that he had blissfully missed because of the darkness you had blanketed the two of you in.
“We should probably get back,” It had been a significant period, and you were starting to lose your rationality of the relationship you two had.
Barely friends, maybe not even friends.
You heard his agreement, his focus returning to the case at hand, and felt him take a few steps to the door. He was reaching for the light switch when the impulse overtook you. You grabbed his forearm again to stop him from turning on the light. You pressed up on your toes and pressed a full but gentle peck on his lips. It was quick and chaste. Your confidence had died off quickly leaving you feeling embarrassed.
Your heels had barely touched the floor again when Jay’s body was wrapped around you. His lips captured yours in a heated, lingering kiss. It was the only thing you could focus on. The intensity was wild and burned through you singeing all your senses.
When he pulled back, he traced your bottom lip with his calloused thumb, “To be continued.” He promised.

Friend of the Captain (pt.2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Edward "Eddie" Horniman x afab!Reader
Summary: Years had past since you had last seen Eddie. Doctor, CEO and soon to be girlfriend of another man. You end up seeing him at Freddy and Tammy's wedding yet other forces keep pulling your both away from admitting to your feelings. What will it take for one of you to see the truth?- as Charlotte ever so indelicately puts it.
Warnings: 3755 words, utter jealousy, language, and light teasing, angst to potential fluff and lots and lots of pining.
A/N: I have watched an unhealthy amount of edits while on dinner break- I must be stopped (gods i'm supposed to be on break!)- this is way longer than I was expecting it to be, perhaps even a part three...
Masterlist | Taglist | somewhat un-edited.
(pt.1) (pt.2) (pt.3)
Tumblr media
↳ Years had past since you had last seen Edward. You still kept in contact with his siblings and his mother, of course. Lady Sabrina refused to let you go- often sending various treats and letters towards your family's estate, you called her ever other week with updates to your studies, travels, and love life. Your mother teasingly voiced her jealousy towards her best friend choosing her own daughter over her best friend.
↳ You often joined the older ladies out for a dinner or lunch with Charlotte tagging along when she was not in school (yet you would never tell Charlotte's parents otherwise to you signing her out as a trusted guardian and taking her even out of the country some weekends). Clicking your glasses together while looking down upon the busy London streets, you smirked seeing someone wearing a piece of yours from across the street.
Tugging at your mothers dress-sleeve she trued around in her seat, grasping your hand in a tight squeeze of excitement and pride as her wrist glittered in your newest bracelet collection. After finishing your PHD of Business Administration you took a fake name to hide your identity for the public and papers for as long as you could. You often blushed now- seeing your face on gossip articles with your date of the evening.
Dinner tonight was a celebration of your recent contract with an up-and-coming movie star- he would be wearing your necklaces on the red carpet by the end of the week. A bottle of bubbly, bubbled your laughter to the surface as they all screamed in your ear, jumping up and down and clapping their hands in the restaurant as you ducked your head, trying to stray away from the attention.
↳ Unknowing to you though is that your's and Edward's mother collected all the gossip magazines, continuing their bet as Sabrinas heart fell every time you looked so in love with your new partner. Charlotte would often make side comments about your "slut era" she called it as you knocked her shoulder with your own, rolling your eyes before your mother swatted your shoulder at the dinner table and insisted on maintaining appearances in the public eye.
--
↳ When inside your studio-office space, drafting up new designs with your creative team. You spun around of your chair and became shocked when you eventually rolled back around to find a wax-sealed envelope with the Halstead crest so beautifully stamped. Peeling away the wax as carefully as you could, the thick, textured paper settled nicely between our hands as you read through the invitation. Tears beginning to well in your eyes before you were squealing in Freddy's ear through the desk-phone as he winced and handed the phone over to Tammy. Both laughing over your childish excitement to their own wedding.
↳ You called the brainstorming off early, rushing to help Tammy find just the right dress later that afternoon as she thanked you for assisting with the wedding planing (already fed up with Lady Sabrina's input into the event- though she was funding a large portion of it due to Freddys... interesting resume).
↳ Wedding dress shopping happened later that spring as you teared up seeing the woman in white. Helping her into your exclusively design accessories and veil. Later that day, you third-wheeled the couple during cake testing- eating double of your weight in sweets as your teeth ached afterwards.
↳ During the bridal party. You all got dressed up in small red dresses and matching heels as you style one another's hair and got your nails done for the evening. You all went to a bar to start of the week strong, you had never felt so carefree and young after the countless sleepless nights of being a CEO and Doctorate student- you really let yourself go that night. Waking up in the bed of a stranger who wrapped their muscled arm over your waist.
Trying to wiggle your way out of their grip and find your various articles of clothing spread round the downtown flat, you ended up stealing one of their shirts- not bothering to look at the design plastered on the front as you placed your phone on to charge and started breakfast.
The oven dinged, the eggs were done as you put out a spread across the countertop before doing a light clean of last nights activities- doing your best to put away things where you thought they belonged and were stopped halfway by an arm pulling you back into their chest and placing a kiss against your forehead, "thank you, love. Didn't have to do any of this at all- I appreciate it very much."
A blush spread over your cheeks as you led them towards the still hots plates and ate together. There name was William from your foggy memories of last night. By the groaning the man in front of you was excepting while pouring himself a coffee, he seemed as well wasted as you were.
"Can I get you any Advil or orange juice?" William asks, placing a coffee in front of you with a smile as you wipe your mouth and take a small sip. "No, I'm alright." When washing up the dishes together, he offered to place your things in the wash while making small talk throughout and even going for a round three later that morning.
Becoming lost in the bubble you both formed for yourselves, hands casting through the short strands of dirty blonde hair that tickled your palms. Your heart dropped in the slightest bit when his phone rang as a show you were both listening to in the background was paused. He whispered a sorry towards you, patting your knee before taking a stand and walking over to the bedroom, you could only hear the start to the conversation, "Captain, everythin' alright?"
Deeming yourself overstaying your welcome, you walked towards the hall bathroom, preparing yourself for the next day and left a small note with your name attached, softly shutting the door behind you before leaning your forehead against it. A stupid smile showing itself across your features as your hands drifted through your contacts, landing on Charlottes picture as it dinged for a few moments.
"Girl, where the fuck have you been since last night?"
"I think I'm in love Char," you stated while the elevator doors closed behind you and the busy city streets awaited you.
--
↳ In the remaining days of the bridal party, you all rented out a vineyard, playing various lawn games with sunbathing by the pool. You subconsciously looked up towards the glass doors of the modern home- unknowing of what you were expecting before returning to your book, humming along to the radio as Tammy splashed you with her dive. Drawing a quick 10 score on your phones notes app and presenting it to her, Charlotte snorted and did a dive of her own as you all laughed and enjoyed the warm weather.
--
↳ Your did frown later that night when William had yet to text you, throwing your phone onto the bed. You really have to get yourself together, you thought to yourself- waiting here on some guy... some guy that treated me fairly. And in this day and age, it was a rare sight to find. Charlotte had already given you a major thumbs up as did the rest of your university friends and some of the past boyfriends you still kept in contact with. They all approved.
↳ Looking into your suitcase, you picked up Williams freshly washed shirt- you had forgotten to return it as your head drifted towards your phone. A perfect excuse to see him once more, your fingers drifted over the keys, breath paused on the send button before tapping the green arrow in a split second. Your adrenaline soared as you ruffled your hair, huffing out and looking at the shirt once more.
Your fingers drifted over the warn edges, pausing at the left breast pocket before your eyes went wide in shock. Displayed was the same coat of arms as Eddies regiment, FUCK, FUCK, FUCK. Was all you could think, hands now gripping at your roots as that text now burred your phone and your mind. It was the night before the wedding at by the looks of it, you were going to be up with your thoughts.
--
↳ The day of the wedding at arrived, you smoothed out your dress as you waited in front of the large wooden doors to the Halstead estate. The wedding was being held in the gardens- now in full bloom as the first week of summer sprang into season. The blush pink complimented your rosy cheeks as you sweated lightly in the blissful heat, everyone had already been partnered up and as the maid of honour- you were more than worried that Freddy's best man had yet to appear
Much to your shock, Edward slowed his steps, feet tripping over the blood red rug beneath your feet as he stumbled to a straight stand by your side. He dropped his gaze down towards your shoes, taking a long drag up of your form before casting you a charming smile. The voices around you soon became muffled as your gaze fell onto his broad shoulders, the scar against his chin and you wondered if the scar you left from throwing a rock at his head while children's was still behind his ear in the same place you remembered it to be.
He wore a navy suit, crisp white shirt underneath as his tie held small pink flowers- perfectly matching your dress. He picked up your hand, maintaining eye contact as he pressed a light kiss to your gloved hand. You were ever-so thankful for purchasing the matching gloves in this moment, holding that the material hid your light shakes from his reassuring hold. His hand soon slipped up your arm. Breath hitching as strings began to play in the background.
His fingers drifted to the skin left uncovered by your tall gloves and dresses arm before looping his arm with your own. The doors soon opened as you both faced forward, smiles plastered on brightly as you walked in perfect rhythm down the isle. You looked towards one another, a few gasps being hear distantly in the crowd yet you couldn't bring your eyes to see where the sound came from. Arms dropping as you continued separately to your respective sides.
Looking up towards the clear blue skies, letting out a breath, your gaze turned to find Freddy looking at you, soft smile on his face as he gave you a singular nod before turning to his wife who began her walk down the isle. You took her bouquet, tears streaming down your eyes as you silently sobbed in happiness for the couple.
You clapped when they kissed, cheered as Freddy dipped her as Lady Sabrina tossed a comment on their outrageous display yet you haded her the bouquet as she shut her mouth abruptly, turning quickly behind to stare at your mother who was already watching as you and Eddie walked down the isle, arm and arm. Your gaze solely focused on the couple, unknowing to the man on your arm who stared at you the whole time- enamoured by your happiness as another stood in the back isle's, rose in hand they stole from the gardens as they waited for the festivities to start.
--
↳ As the first dance had finished and the cake had been cut, the DJ started to turn on the selected playlist and you headed straight to the bar in order to hug the newly weds who had a mission of getting absolutely wasted by the end of the night. After chatting with them for a few moments, a cough from behind you has your eyes going wide as does everyone else in the general area who stops to watch
You pause, drink slipping through your fingers as they catch it just in time with a smirk. "Hello, love," William speaks in hushed tones, knowing of the curious glances around you. Your eyes fly across the white warm-event weather uniform he wears. The sharp colour of his blue pants matching his eyes as your mouth soon falls agape. He takes a hand, lightly underneath your chin as he closes your mouth, pressing a kiss to the side of your lips.
Your eye's drift over to his shoulder, looking at his rank as you return a kiss to his cheek in greeting, now taking the barstool behind you as he leans against the bar top, taking his hat off and setting it between you. "Why hello there, Lieutenant," you say before taking a sip of your drink to gain some liquid courage as the eyes around you both begin to turn back to their personal conversations.
"You know my rank?" he questions with a raised brow as you shrug your shoulders. "Have close friends in the military as well, memorized all that chest candy," you state, eyes now darting across the metals he displays. Williams chuckles, ordering himself a drink as the bartender nods in confirmation as you both ease into conversation with one another.
--
↳ Eddie currently talks with his family as Freddy perks his interest. "Did you see that guy she's been talking to at the bar?- dude is seriously laying it on thick." Freddy rolls his eyes as you throw your head back in laughter, hand pressed against the white uniform as the man looks down to your touch with another teeth-filled smile. Charlotte shrugs, stealing a sip of Eddies drink as their mother quickly steals the wine glass from her and returns it to Eddies open hand who tries to peer over Freddys shoulder as he continues on and on about the bachelor party he had.
Eddies eyes go wide, seeing the white uniform, seeing you pressed up against another mans chest as he spins you lightly, eyeing you up and down and how your dress twirls at your feet as you get both of your glass topped off once more. His gaze hardens as he catches Williams face, his arm drifting around your waist, mouth pressed to your ear as he kisses your skin teasingly- eyes darting towards the door as you look up at him through your lashes.
Eddie's hands turn into fists, his eyebrows furrowed as he starts to take a step forward yet Freddy still mindlessly talks as nobody is now listening as Charlotte begins to fill their mother in as she looks towards her son with concern. Hand ghosting on his arm that he has yet to take notice of. He watches as you bite your lip, pulling at his collar as you trace the seams of his uniform. Eddie lets out a sharp breath of air as he seems your lipstick begin to stain his skin, his mothers hand now tight against his arm as he stares down at it.
Charlotte shakes her hand, Sabrina now walking away to talk to your mother sat in the corner conversing with Tammy's parents. Freddy had finally taken notice of the lack of attention, returning to his wife's side as they stole bites from the cake before the official cutting. When Eddie turns back to see where you went, the bar is empty the door swinging closed as he speedily walks towards the hall only to find it empty both ways. As he begins to walk, a cough has him turning around to find Charlotte taking off her heels as she leans against the wall next to a suit of armour.
"Thought that you two were not together, no feelings right?" she presses, gaze determined as she slips off the last of her heels and begins to walk towards her brother who's shoulders only rise in their tensed form. He shakes himself off as she stands directly in front of him, shaking off his suit as he adjusts his suit-cuffs. "No, still is the case- just worried for my childhood friend is all."
"Alright, then..." Charlotte takes notice as his eyes keep darting back down the hall behind her, hope and hatred bleeding through his eyes as she smirk's, going in for the jab. "...If thats all you care about, he's a good man- that not right Captain?- They fucked a few times..." Charlotte presses her heels into her brothers chest as he keeps them there. His sister signals him to follow her outside as they begin to stroll towards the gardens all those Christmas's ago.
"She even told me she's in love with him-"
"What?" Edward asks in a breathy tone, his heart dropping as his sister continues walking further into the gardens and towards the centre fountain. "I warned you before Edwina, she's too good to have to wait so others take action. You had your time with her it seems, now it is time for someone else to take your place." She ends with a bittersweet smile. "You know... I always hoped she would become my actual sister- mom too but a best friend is better than nothing at all, right?"
The sharpness of her words twists itself deep in Edwards heart as he staggers, shoes dropped to the gravel beneath his feet, hands clenching at his tie that now seems too tight, his breathing laboured as he starts to see blood flashing on his hand and across his face. He hears your laughter filling his ears, the smell of your conditioner flooding his nose as it drifts off with the evening air.
--
↳ When Eddie returns to his work on boarder patrol, checking various people and their cars through the checkpoint. He enters the change-room at the end of every night, giving a nod and handing off his gun towards another officer who would be taking over the night patrol that evening.
↳ He often see's William changing as he enters, his shift ending 30 minutes before his own. He looks at the mans back, the angry red ail marks clawing their way up to his shoulders as the muscles his his back flex when a shirt covers up majority of the markings yet this shirt is old and warn. Having lost a great deal of his green colour, now a muted muddy colour as the neck hands low.
↳ Edward see's the the hickeys you undoubtedly left across his collarbones and neck, he recognizes that bite from the occasional moment you both shared as teenagers. William nods towards his superior officer outside of working hours. Picking up his jacket before moving to the sleeping quarters. Eddie sits on the centre bench, elbows against his knees, hands in his head as he grips and tugs at his hair. Frustration eating him alive as he imagines your touch, your lips against his own, the taste of your skin-
↳ Every day the same, every vacation time taken at a similar point as he notices a year afterwards the diamond ring hanging off Williams dog tags. He constant has been looking at it underneath his uniform throughout shifts, smiling before his mask returns as another car pulls forward. Eddies brain was struggling to come to cope with the images of that small ring hanging off Williams neck. He cursed himself alive as Freddy punched him square across the face when he drunkly ranted towards his brother a weekend he spent back home
↳ When he returned back to base, the ring he had around his dog tags was gone. William nodded towards the Captain as usual, that little display now irking him- pouring more fire into the gaping wound he sustained as the lieutenant paused. Face turning over his shoulder as eh spoke out into the empty change room, "I have been requested by management to switch towards the front lines... It has been a pleasure working with you sir. I wish you the best."
"Thank you, William. Do take care of her," Eddie states, looking at him square in the eyes. "Till the day she loves me no longer and afterwards," William promises before gently closing the door behind himself. Eddie does now feel himself crying before he calls his mother, not saying a word as he cries, she cries, as he can feel his fathers disappointment, his sisters distaste, and Eddies side remarks.
↳ But why stop at that? Eddie was soon being called back for your engagement photo, he glared at the ring on your finger. It's small for a jeweller, he thinks to himself yet had already bought the ticket, a gift and written a card voicing his congratulations to you both.
--
↳ Edward was beyond confused to walk into the empty venue space a few months later. Handmade stars hug above his head, a tray of champagne by his feet as the lights were dimmed, the afternoon sun finding its way through the blinds casting patterns onto the hardwood floors beneath. In his steps, the floors creaked as your tearstained face meet his eyes. He walked faster, taking a kneel beside you as you flung yourself into his chest as he dropped the gift, kicking it aside and held you tightly to himself. Hands beginning to drift through your hair as he pressed a kiss to the crown of your head.
He felt your tears staining his sweater, the rapid spikes of your shoulders as you sharply breathed between sobs. "H-He, He cheated on me! I fuckin' love another man and he cheats on me!" you wail, shaking your head into his neck as he rubs your back. Eddie holds himself from question the slight hope at, love another man.
"I am sorry to hear that darling, you are the most underserving person of such treatment I know. Downright motherfucker," Eddie whispers into your hair before you fall backwards, tugging Eddie by his shoulders to join you laying on the floors. You both stare up into the various stars coating the ceiling as you squeeze your hand in his own larger one.
A few moments pass as you listen to each other breathe in the empty room. Rain slowly begins to fall against the window panes as you turn your head to already find Eddie look at you with a soft smile. "Thank you, Eddie, for staying here with me... you're the best friend I could ever ask for," you speak out softly, hand resting on his cheek as he turns his head to kiss your palm.
"Always."

Jay Halstead- Allergies
Tumblr media
When Jay asked me out on a date I was so worried he would take me to a restaurant, luckily he didn’t, instead we went just went to Mollys and had a drink. After how well our first date went Jay asked me on another, which meant I couldn’t hide my allergies from him anymore. Thankfully he understood and so once again we didn’t go out to eat.
Now here we are married with a 5 year old daughter who fortunately doesn’t have as manny allergies as I do, except for the fact she’s allergic to cows milk. Anything containing said product could send her into anaphylaxis, this is why we have many vegan products just to be on the safe side.
I sit at my desk opposite Jays as I fill out paperwork from my last arrest when my works phone rings
“YN Halstead”
“Mrs Halstead hello, this is Mr Martinez I’m calling you to let you know that I will need you or your husband to come and pick up Layla from school. She’s unfortunately been sick and says her chest hurts”
“Ok” I sigh looking at the clock on my computer 12:34, “I’ll come down and get her. Has she eaten anything at lunch?” I ask standing up. Jay then looks at me confused
“Yes, she didn’t say she felt ill, in fact she ate all of her lunch”
“What was it?”
“It was macaroni cheese, but I’m not sure what Layla had instead. I’ll find out from the cook and let you know what it was when you arrive”
“Ok I’ll be about 15 minutes” I sigh putting the phone down
“Everything ok?”
“Laylas been sick, I’ll go and get her, you think Voight will let me bring her back here?”
“Never had a problem with it before. I’ll come with you” Jay says getting up “go get the car ready and I’ll let Voight know”
We arrive at the school, but as we park up there’s an ambulance with blue lights flashing. Quickly we get out of the car and rush into the reception area
“Oh thank goodness Mr and Mrs Halstead your here” the receptionist walks round her desk to us “please follow me”
“What’s going on?” Jay says worriedly
“After Mr Martinez rang you he spoke to the cook. They’re new and turns out that she gave Layla the macaroni cheese”
“What?!” My eyes widen and panic sets in
“She was given her epipen and we phoned an ambulance. She’s in here” we head into a room where I see my best friend Sylvie sat next to mine and Jays daughter
“Momma!” Layla yells crying
“It’s ok momma and daddy are here”
“Why the hell did the cook give my daughter something she’s allergic to? Do you not have a list of all the childrens allergies?”
“Of course we do Mr Halstead, but as this cook was new she didn’t know their allergies”
“How did she not know? Surly she would have see then list?”
“She never come to the office to get it” the receptionist states
“Then why didn’t you take it to her?” I shout
“I understand your both upset, but I have to remind you that we are still at a school” the headteacher now walks in
“And how are you going to make this better Hm?” Jay asks crossing his arms
“We have asked that she go to an allergen awareness course, and we will be making a list to stay in the kitchen”
“YN, Jay? Layla is ready to move to hospital. You know the drill”
“Yeah course. Babe let’s go” Jay sighs at Sylvie “but this isn’t over. I want to know how your going to prevent this from happening again”
Jay and I head to the hospital where we’re told that Layla will be ok but no school for her for the rest of the week.

hey im dreaming of a reading story with jay where he meets a reader a quiet shy bookworm who always wears dresses or skirts and is a bit younger than him (around 10 but if that's too much for you maybe less) the rest of the Intelligence (Will too) doesn't believe she has feelings for him but then something happens and they see how much she is in love with him and they start treating her like family and Will like a little sister
Sorry for my English but it's my second language and I also wanted to say that your stories always bring me joy and peace 🤍
Found Family- Jay Halstead
Warnings: mentions panic attacks and sleazy men
Authors note: Thank you for the ask! I had to make a few changes, but I hope you still love it!
—————————
You met Jay by chance and unfortunate circumstances. You have a habit of frequenting coffee shops on your days off. You are almost always dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt, glasses perched on your face and hair thrown into a messy bun. You enjoy reading and studying in crowded places so that you can people watch when you need a break. You sit toward the back, back against the wall, and watch as people come and go as you drink your coffee.
Today, you sat in the back in your skinny jeans and maroon sweatshirt, laptop sat untouched in front of you, school work spread around the table, but your favorite book was perched in your hand. You’d given up on studying for the time being and there wasn’t really much to look at or watch at the moment. That was until someone came back to your table.
The guy couldn’t have been more than 50, but he was certainly uninvited when it came to sitting in the seat directly across from you. He had a sinister smirk gracing his face as he stared at you. You tried to ignore him, in hopes that he would go away, but you had no such luck.
Putting your book down, you shut your laptop and folded your arms protectively across your chest. “Can I help you?” You asked, barely above a whisper.
The guy smirked and brushed his foot across your leg. “Maybe. I’ve been watching you for some time now. You seemed lonely and I figured I could offer you some company. After all, a pretty girl like you shouldn’t be alone.” He replied, smiling suggestively as he leaned forward and started moving your stuff out of the way to get to you.
“Hey!” You said, pushing your chair back to get away from him.
The man hooked his feet around the legs of your chair and pulled you back. “Oh come on. Don’t be like that.” He snarled. “Let’s not make a scene.”
You were shaking as tears threatened to spill from your eyes. You looked around for anyone who could help you when you spotted a handsome cop watching the situation unfold. You did the open and closed hand signal, which immediately had him moving out of line.
“Everything okay here?” The cop asked, coming to stand at your side, looking down on the man as he flashed his shield at the creep.
“Yes officer. Everything is fine. I’m just talking to my girl.” The man immediately answered, leaning forward to touch you again.
The cop lunged forward, taking the man’s wrist in his hand and twisting his arm behind his back. “I don’t think she wants you touching her. This is your only warnings to back off or I’m arresting you for harassment.” The cop practically growled into the man’s ear. “Got it?” He asked, letting up slightly.
The man nodded. “Got it. Got it! Please let me go. Your hurting me.” The man begged.
The cop immediately let go and yanked the man out of the chair. “Get out of here. Never, and I mean never, talk to this woman again or come into this coffee shop. We clear?” The cop asked the man.
“We’re clear.” The man replied, immediately walking out the front door.
The cop turned to you and kneeled on the ground at your side. “Hey. I’m Jay Halstead. You okay?” Jay asked, looking up at you with kind eyes.
You shook your head and stifled a sob. “N-no. I j-us.” You drug in a breath, trying your hardest to keep the tears at bay. “I wanna g-go h-home.” You whispered, wild eyes checking the area around you.
Jay nodded and stood. “It’s okay. Let’s get you packed.” Jay offered, looking at you for approval. When you nodded, he immediately began gathering your things for you. “Do you want a ride home?” Jay asked once you were ready to go.
You smiled shyly and nodded. “I-if it isn’t t-too much t-trouble.” You agreed, fidgeting with a backpack strap with one hand and wiping tears from your eyes, under your glasses.
Jay smiled. “No problem at all. Come on.” Jay said, leading the way out, coffee long forgotten.
———————
That first encounter was 6 months ago. Ever since, you have yet to see that creep, but you have seen Jay Halstead dozens of times. He frequently comes to your place at the end of the day, which is a habit he started forming after your initial meeting. At first, he wanted to be sure you were okay, and that the man stayed away, since you live alone and have no family in town. He brought something every time he came, and often stayed until you fell asleep.
Now, Jay comes over whenever he gets a chance or whenever you need each other. Most nights end with you snuggled into his embrace and him carrying you to bed. Sometimes, you will stay at the other’s apartment if it gets too late, but you both have yet to establish any relationship.
Tonight, you and Jay are having drinks with his team and his brother, Will Halstead. You are sitting next to Kevin and relentlessly teasing and flirting with him. It’s something you have done with all of the guys, and sometimes the girls, to try and mask the feelings you have for Jay. You distract yourself with one of the guys when Jay meets another girl to try and stifle your jealousy. Since you haven’t shown the same energy to Jay, nobody else has ever suspected that you could have any real feelings for Jay. Until tonight.
You were going up to the bar to grab drinks when someone grabbed you around the waist. You barely reacted at first, thinking it was one of the guys or one of your friends from 51, until they tried pulling you closer and spoke.
“No one as pretty as you should be alone.” The man whispered, trying to tug you into him.
You shrugged him off and waved down Stella. “I-I’m not a-alone.” You stammered, your anxiety immediately heightened as you felt the man move his arm higher up and try to hook a hand around your boob.
You felt like the room was closing in as you lost sight of Stella, until the man was forced off of you. You almost fell, but landed in steady arms that immediately pulled you into their chest and backed away as Adam and Stella dragged the guy out of the bar with Kevin in tow. You struggled briefly, but recognized the smell of your best friend, Jay Halstead.
“Hey hey hey. It’s me. It’s me. It’s okay.” Jay shushed, caging you in his embrace as he walked you through the crowd and back to the table.
“She alright?” Asked Will, sliding a glass of water your way.
You had major anxiety when it came to going out in public since the initial incident. You’ve just recently started venturing to the bar on your own since you know many of the patrons, but this was gonna set you back. Your anxiety was through the roof as you clung to Jay with shaking hands.
Jay shushed you and pulled your head into his chest, placing a hand on the ear that was facing the crowded bar. You could barely hear the noises of the bar, but you could clearly hear the beat of Jay’s heart and feel his chest rising and falling. Jay spoke to Will as you allowed yourself to get lost in your thoughts about Jay. Instead of replaying the incident, you allowed Jay’s presence to calm and reassure you.
Eventually, Jay pulled back and picked you up, following Will through the crowded bar. “We’re gonna go home. Alright? I’m gonna take you home.” Jay said to you, kissing your forehead.
You nodded, leaning your head on Jay’s shoulder. As you walked out, you spotted Adam trying to chill Kevin out. Kevin was pretty close to you, like the big brother you never had, and was extremely pissed that someone had the nerve to mess with you. The anger immediately turned to playfulness as they spotted Jay carrying you out and your little wave over his shoulder. They both began making kissing face and inappropriate gestures towards you and Jay that had you hiding giggles in Jay’s neck.
“Alright love birds, into the truck.” Will teased, opening the door for Jay to slip in the back seat with you.
“Yeah yeah yeah. Whatever.” Jay replied, sliding in with you and buckling you both in, not letting you out of his lap as you shivered from the adrenaline crash.
The ride home is silent. You weren’t sure where you were going, but you hoped Jay would stay either way. Your question was answered soon as Jay got out of the truck and headed into his apartment.
“Figured you wouldn’t want to be alone.” Jay said to you, letting you down as he took his key off his key ring and threw the keys to the truck at Will. “Just bring it back tomorrow.” Jay said to his brother, both of you waving back to Will as he drove off.
You followed Jay in, immediately going into his closet to grab his army sweatshirt, changing into it and leaving your clothes on his bedroom floor. When you came back into the living room, Jay had your favorite playlist on and some hot tea. He was sat back on the couch, in sweat pants that he grabbed from his dryer and no shirt.
You wasted no time in crawling into his lap and laying your head on his chest again. You waited for him to wrap his arms around you and get comfortable before you swallowed your fears and spoke. “Jay. I wanna tell you something.” You whispered, fiddling with his dog tags.
Jay hummed, pulling you even closer.
“I really like you. I mean, your my safe space. You always know how to make me feel better, no matter the situation.” You took a deep breath before continuing. “Sometimes, I just wanna lay my head on your chest and forget everything bad that has ever happened to me.” Finally, you sat up some and looked him in the eyes. “I want to be with you. In more ways than one. Honestly Jay, I love you.” You said, smiling wildly as Jay smiled at you.
“Thank God. I didn’t want to scare you away, so I’ve been waiting on the right time to tell you that I love you too.” Jay said, crashing his lips into yours. The kiss was slow and needy. Your hands found purchase around his neck and in his hair. His softly held you around the waist with the other tangled in your hair as well.
The kiss ended when you both finally needed air. You laid your forehead against his, noses brushing against each other.
“The others are gonna freak.” You whispered, causing Jay to cackle.
“Nah. I heard there’s a bet going on. You found a family in my little family. They are just gonna be happy we are finally together.” Jay said, smiling widely as he leaned in for another kiss.

Jay Halstead Masterlist | Main Masterlist
"Hey, did you get it done?" Y/N hears Jay ask into his phone as she approaches his desk and leans against it after exiting Hank's office.
He winks at her with a smile on his face. They're the last two members of the intelligence unit remaining upstairs. Everyone else had gone home early, leaving the couple to finish theirs alone. What Y/N didn't know was that the paper work that needed to be done could have waited until the morning and that Jay's using it as a rouse to distract Y/N from leaving when the others did.
"I'll call you tomorrow," he assures whoever is on the other end of the phone call before ending it.
"Who was that?" she inquires, curiosity getting the better of her.
"That was Will," he replies as he stands up and grabs his coat from the back of his chair. "He asked my opinion on something he was contemplating."
"I'm guessing he listened to you," she comments as she takes his coat and helps him in putting it on.
"He did," he says as he spins around to face her before leaning forward to plant a kiss to her lips. He steps back from her and asks, "Are you ready to go?"
Y/N nods and returns to her desk, where she picks up her coat and beanie before putting them on. As they walk out of District 21, he takes her hand in his and kisses the back it.
When they reach his truck, he draws her in for another kiss before unlocking the front passenger door for her. He helps her into the seat and kisses her once more before closing the door.
As she watches Jay run around the front of the truck and into the driver's seat, she blows hot air into her hands to keep them from freezing.
"You've been oddly affectionate today," she comments, recalling all the times he's pulled her aside for a short sweet kiss and a private moment with her. He was a lot more touchy with her, even in front of the others.
At work, they kept their relationship professional and kept their affection for one other to a minimal, saving it for when their shift is over. Calling each other babe was largely a slip of the tongue; they kept their hands to themselves, limiting their intimacy at work to an embrace and a kiss in the locker room and a sneaky kiss in as they gear up to take down an extremely dangerous suspect. At work, they'll always be partners before husband and wife… until one of them gets hurt.
"Can't I show my wife some love on her birthday?" He asks, unable to disguise the joy in his voice, his smile radiating from ear to ear as he began the drive to their apartment.
"Oh, I'm not complaining," she says, smiling as she hears his excitement and delight in his words and sees it on his face. She stares at him and feels herself falling in love with him all over again. Her heart always soars when she sees him happy. "I thoroughly enjoyed it."
"Good," he replies, taking her hand in his and kissing the back of it as they come to a halt at a red light.
"Before we walk inside, you have to promise me you won't murder me," he says as he steps between her and the apartment door and removes her keys from her grasp.
She glances at him with suspicion. "What did you do?"
"Nothing bad," he quickly replies. He's aware of her dislike of surprises, so he kept this one to a minimum, including only his brother and the unit.
Kim, Adam, and Kevin wanted to throw her a surprise party, but Jay immediately vetoed that idea since he knew it would be the last thing she wanted, especially the day after Christmas. She'd told him a week ago that all she wants for her birthday is a night in with her husband, eating pizza and having a couple drinks.
So that is what Jay planned.
He opens the door and walks ahead of her inside the apartment, laying his stuff on the floor. He looks around the room, noting that he owes Will big time.
Y/N follows Jay into the apartment, a shocked expression on her face as she takes in the dim lighting and candles flickering about the room. The fire is roaring and there's a bottle of wine, two glasses and a pizza box set on the coffee table, which she giggles at. It isn't her first birthday spent with them as a couple but it is her first birthday as Mrs Halstead and he wanted to make it as special and meaningful as she is.
"Happy Birthday, babe," Jay says quietly as he approaches her and helps her take  off her coat and beanie before kissing her on the cheek.
She spins around to face him as his arms encircle her waist, drawing her into him. "I really do have the best husband ever."
"And brother-in-law," he smiles, implying that he had help in setting things up.
"Is this what you were discussing with him?" She asks, amazed that they were able to keep it so well hidden from her.
"Maybe," he shrugs, his smile turning into a smirk.
"Make sure to thank him tomorrow," she adds, running her hands up his arms, shoulders, and neck to his head. "Until then," she adds bringing him into a soft and loving kiss.
Before either of them could deepen the kiss, her stomach rumbles as the smell of the pizza invades her nostrils. Breaking the kiss, she pulls out of her husbands hold and moves toward the coffee table. Opening the pizza box, her mouth waters at the sight of her favourite toppings on top of her favourite pizza base. Jay moves beside her and opens the bottle of wine, pouring some into the glasses. He hands one of the glasses to her.
"I love you so much," she says taking her glass.
"I love you too," he smiles and kisses her.
"Best birthday ever," she says breaking the kiss and taking his glass from him. Deciding to ignore her stomach, she places the glasses back on table and moves back into her husband's arms.
His lips meet hers again as he guides her in front of the fire, his hands grazing her skin underneath the shirt, that just so happens to be his, that she's wearing. As he lifts the shirt off her, he tells her, "Babe, we're just getting started."

— melt.
Tumblr media
summary: After seeing how heartbroken the families of the people who work for the department get when they die, you decided to not get involved with anyone. You didn't expect, however, to have that ice wall melted away by someone — Jay Halstead — in your own unit. And when Jay got hurt in one of the cases, you couldn't help but be mad at him, and it didn't take long for him to figure out the why.

Grumpy, reserved, quiet. All words used to describe you. And they weren't really that mistaken.
There was a thick ice wall between you and the rest of the world. A wall that didn't allow you to build any deeper relationship with anyone. One that burned people with its overwhelming coldness.
A wall that you build it yourself a little over a month after entering the Chicago's Intelligence Unit. Specifically after you watched how destroyed a family felt after losing a relative who worked for the department.
You felt selfish for even thinking of getting emotionally involved with someone. What if something happened to you? To them? You would never forgive yourself. You'd be rooted in the Asphodels Meadows — trapped with your own regret for all eternity — if anything ever happened because of you.
Everything was going well with it. You weren't that happy, but you were happier than you would be if you carried all the guilt of putting a loved one in danger.
But you never could prepare yourself to the warmth of Jay Halstead.
How cheeky of you to fall in love with a sweet smile. But it was true. You felt pathetically helpless any time he laughed at your jokes and showed you his teeth.
It was bittersweet. His laugh sounded like heaven and it made your life a living hell. How could you not be selfish? How could you think of being a good person when he was so close to you?
You tried to rationalized it. Tried to think that he wasn't that good. That perfect. That it was just your love-starved brain romanticizing him to tempt you.
Which lead you to the mistake of getting to know him.
Everything got worse.
The attempt of hating his flaws turned out to realizing that his loyalty was too much for his own good. He would mindlessly die for you, without a second thought or regret. How intoxicating.
He was like a honey-flavored poison. The sweetest way to lose yourself forever.
And unfortunately, you tasted him. Not only that, but it was never enough. You couldn't get enough of him. He became everything.
So when he almost died during one of the cases because he risked himself a little too much to get information, you were mad.
"Will you tell me why you're not talking to me?" He asked you, leaning over your desk and tilting his head, letting out a sigh. "Come on, I could've died and you won't even talk to me?"
"It's exactly because of that." You murmured, annoyed, not looking at him.
"What? I didn't hear you." Jay said, getting closer.
"It's because of that!" You said, now louder. You two were alone in the office. You were finishing up some papers while Jay — who couldn't for the life of him be separated from you for more than a couple hours — made you company.
"You're not talking to me because I risked myself?" Jay asked, confused, watching as you got up from the chair and went to the break room.
"I'm not talking to you because you're irresponsible!" You answered, finally looking at him in the eyes. Your bodies facing one another.
"I did it for the case! We needed the info!" Jay argued and you groaned, massaging your temples.
"Oh, my God, you really don't understand, do you?" You brushed your hands against your face, trying to calm yourself down.
"No, I don't. You do things like that all the time, and usually is worse. But when I do it, I'm irresponsible?" He asked, frowning.
He looked at you, trying to understand what was wrong. You weren't like this. You didn't fight with people unless their actions harm the case. So what was happening?
It was when the realization hit.
You were worried.
"Detective," He called, flashing you that damned smile that you so desired to kiss. "are you mad because I could've died?"
"Wha- What? No!" You mumbled, taking a step back as he approached you.
"Oh, yeah?" He mumbles, smiling smugly at you. "Are you sure of that?" He asks, getting closer and closer.
"Y-Yes, I am! If you died, it would've been a loss for the team and all the time and money that they invested on you would go to waste and-" You gulped, feeling the cold wall against your back and watching as he trapped you, putting his arms on each side of your face. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing."
"Why are you looking at me like that?" You said, nervously pushing his chest, but not really wanting him to leave.
"Like what?"
"Like that! Staring at my lips! Stop it!"
"Or what?" He asked, smugly.
Your breath got stuck in your throat, and as the seconds went by, he got closer. His forehead was soon touching yours, and his smile only grew bigger.
"Looks just like a dream I had." He said, putting his hand on your chin. "It ended very well. "
You didn't answer right away, trying to process your thoughts. You wanted to give a good answer, something that would make him go away — even though you didn't really want that —, but a wave of curiosity hit you with the revelation that he dreamt of you.
"How so?" Your voice was almost inaudible.
"I got to do more than just kiss you." He whispered, as if telling a secret. "But I think that just being able to kiss you would already make me the luckiest man on earth."
Your gaze fell to his lips, and just the thought of kissing them got you nervous. Your heartbeat rapidly beating against your chest, and for a moment he thought that he could feel it too.
But it was actually his own.
"Please," He asked. It could be mistaken for a beg, but the smug look on his face said otherwise. "detective."
"I thought…" You were breathless. Your nervousness didn't let you speak properly, but still, for some reason, you knew exactly what to say.
"Say it."
"I thought you were a man of action," You breathed out. "detective."
He smiled.
His hands — painfully — slowly went to the nape of your neck, holding it as he pressed his lips against yours, devouring it slowly, torturing you with it.
The kiss was the epitome of breathtaking. His lips moved slow and tenderly against yours, savouring you like it was his last meal.
He could live the rest of his life devoting himself to kissing you. How could it taste so sweet?
Jay wasn't much of a religious man, and he was even farther of believing in Greek gods. But as he felt your body against his and your sweet kiss on his lips, he was sure that you must be Aphrodite's work.
Masterpiece, actually.
His hands traveled around your body, feeling your curves, trying to memorize it so he didn't feel so sad when they weren't against his fingertips — even though that he knew it would be his life's biggest torment.
And he got a taste of it when he had to part himself from your lips.
"What were you saying, baby?" He asked, with a smug smile on his face.
"Fuck you, Jay Halstead." You said before kissing him again, feeling his smile melt against your mouth as your fingers intertwined his hair.
"You wish." He mumbled against your lips, lifting you up by your thighs and wrapping them around his waist.
Jay warmth was definitely more than enough to melt the ice wall away.

This case had been difficult for the team, Jay getting hit his hardest with his dad being one of the victims on the fire. The longer the chase for the arsonist, the more you could see him spiraling. You expected it, all things considered. Jay may have said they didn’t have the best relationship, but it was still his father. What you didn’t expect was for Jay to disobey a direct order from Voight and go after the suspect on his own.
After you took his truck and two way, you thought he would be safe, far away from the action. So when you heard his call come in over the radio, your heart sank to your stomach.
“This is 5021 George. Emergency. Shots fired. Offender down, need an ambo. Lower Wacker and Columbus.”
As soon as you heard his location, you took off running, Kevin close behind. Rounding the corner, you saw Jay unmoving on the pavement, his side covered in blood.
“5021 Victor. Officer down. I repeat, officer down. Lower Wacker and Columbus. Get us an ambulance!” You rushed to Jay’s side, leaving Kevin to take care of the offender.
You tried to stay calm as you ripped open his shirt, panic threatening to override your training. You could see he was bleeding from his side, but you couldn’t tell what the damage was from the other bullets.
“Jay? Hey, talk to me.” Your voice wavered.
Jay was breathing heavily, looking at you with wide eyes. You pulled his vest away from his body, feeling under it for the bullet.
“It didn’t go through. It didn’t go through.” You pressed on the wound at his side with shaky hands. “You’re gonna be okay. It’s okay. Just breathe.”
-
You watched intently as the paramedics patched up Jay in the back of the ambulance. There were officers all around you, blocking off the scene and questioning the other members of the team, but you tuned it all out.
Once the paramedics were done treating him and he had gotten a thorough scolding from Voight, you made your way over.
“Hey.” You took a seat next to him. “You gonna be okay?”
Jay looked at you sheepishly. “Yeah, I’m okay. No serious damage, just a few stitches and some major bruising.”
“Good.”
“I’m really sorry, Y/N. I just couldn’t stop myself.” He said quietly.
You nodded lightly, giving him a small smile and patting his leg gently. “I know.”
The paramedic came back over and you used the interruption to excuse yourself. You could feel the aftermath of the situation setting in and you needed to get away from the scene.
You heard footsteps behind you and Kevin appeared at your side. “Hey, you okay?”
“Yep, I’m good. I’m fine.” You replied, unable to keep the emotion out of your voice.
Kevin put a hand on your arm, slowing you down and turning you towards him. “Woah, woah.” You couldn’t stop the tears from welling up in your eyes as you met his gaze. “Yeah, that’s the adrenaline wearing off. It’s okay.”
“I thought he was dead.” You choked out the words.
Kevin put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you close. “So did I.”
As the two of you made it back to the cars, he brought you in for a hug. You gripped his shirt tightly, embarrassed by your crying, but soaking in the comfort after the emotions of the past hour. You knew out of anyone, Kevin would never judge you for being human.
“I gotcha.” He rubbed your back comfortingly. “C’mon, Sarge said we’re done for the day. Jay’s in good hands. I’ll drive you home.”
You spared one last glance back towards Jay as you got into the car, only to find him looking right at you, his face etched with concern.
