The Retreat I
8 months after the accident…
Monique gripped the steering wheel of her weathered Subaru, stealing glances at her best friend, Ashleigh, in the passenger seat. The winding mountain road stretched before them, an endless ribbon cutting through the dense, shadowy forest. As the sun reached its apex in the sky, casting long fingers of light through the trees, Monique felt a familiar tightness in her chest.
The radio played softly, filling the silence between them. Ashleigh’s eyes were fixed on the view outside, but she could sense Monique’s unease.
“You know, this is exactly what we need,” Ashleigh said, her voice gentle yet firm. “Getting away will help clear your mind.”
Monique sighed, her grip tightening. “I don’t know, Ash. What if this is just another failed attempt to escape my life?”
“It won’t be,” Ashleigh insisted, turning to face her friend. “You’ve been through so much, Mo. I know you’re stronger than you realize. It’s time you remembered that. We both need this time away to breathe and heal.”
Monique glanced at Ashleigh, seeing the determination in her eyes. “I hope you’re right,” she muttered, returning her gaze to the road.
At thirty-two, Monique wore her experiences like invisible scars. Her once-bright smile now seemed forced, a mask to hide the turmoil beneath the surface. This vacation was meant to be an escape, a chance to outrun the shadows of guilt and grief that had dogged her steps since that fateful night.
The car rounded another bend, and Ashleigh gasped softly. “Hey Mo, look!”
Their friendship had been a lifeline for Monique, a bond forged through years of shared experiences, laughter, and tears. Ashleigh’s unwavering support and infectious optimism had always been a source of strength for Monique, especially during the darkest times. Despite the heavy weight of her recent past, Monique felt a flicker of hope as they ventured deeper into the mountains, guided by Ashleigh’s constant belief in her resilience.
As they approached the clearing, a cabin emerged from the wilderness. Its weathered exterior spoke of years of neglect but also held a mysterious charm. Like hollow eyes, the windows watched their arrival with curiosity and anticipation.
Monique eased the car to a stop, killing the engine. “Home sweet home,” she said sarcastically. The silence was so loud that the only sound was the tick of the cooling engine and their shallow breaths.
Monique’s feeble attempt at humor fell flat in the eerie stillness. Neither woman moved to exit the car. Monique’s mind drifted, remembering her previous argument with her brother Marcus. He had insisted this trip would help her heal, but Monique couldn’t take the mix of pity and encouragement in his eyes. It was her fault David was gone. Her actions had shattered so many lives.
A sudden movement in the trees snapped Monique back to the present. She tensed, eyes scanning the tree line. “Did you see that?”
Ashleigh frowned, peering into the gathering darkness. “See what?”
For a heartbeat, Monique thought she glimpsed a person standing motionless among the pines. Then it was gone, leaving her to wonder if it had been a trick of the fading light.
“It’s nothing,” Monique said, more to convince herself than Ashleigh. “Come on, let’s get our stuff inside before dark.”
They exited the car, the crunch of gravel under their feet echoing through the silent forest. Monique couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched as they retrieved their bags from the trunk.
Ashleigh bumped her shoulder playfully against Monique’s. “Hey, this is supposed to be fun, remember? Two weeks of rest, relaxation, and zero cell service.”
Monique managed to put up a small smile, grateful for her friend’s unrelenting support. “You’re right. I don’t think I could’ve done this alone.”
As they approached the cabin, keys jingling in Monique’s hand, a chill wind whipped through the clearing. It carried the scent of pine and something else – something old and vaguely unsettling.
Monique hesitated at the threshold, her hand on the tarnished doorknob. This was their refuge, a chance to heal and move forward. Yet, as she gazed into the cabin’s shadowy interior, she couldn’t shake the feeling that they had made a terrible mistake.
With a deep breath, Monique pushed open the door. It swung inward with a mournful creak, revealing musty darkness within. Neither noticed the gleaming eyes watching from the forest’s edge as she and Ashleigh stepped inside.
The musty air inside the cabin tickled Monique’s nose as she fumbled for a light switch. A soft click and warm light flooded the room, revealing a cozy interior that immediately dispelled any lingering unease. The cabin’s weathered exterior had hidden a warm, inviting space that promised comfort and relaxation.
“Wow, Ash,” Monique breathed, taking in the rustic charm of the living room. A stone fireplace dominated one wall, flanked by well-worn but comfortable-looking furniture. The wooden walls were adorned with old photographs and paintings of the surrounding wilderness, adding to the cabin’s quaint appeal.
“This place is pretty nice,” Monique said, her tone lightening.
Ashleigh beamed, already hauling their bags inside. “I told you! I found this place online while Marcus and I searched for venues for the big day. It had great reviews from other guests for a quick reprieve.”
They began exploring the cabin, starting in the living room. Monique noticed a large, plush rug beside the fireplace and a stack of firewood beside it. A sturdy wooden coffee table held an assortment of nature magazines and a few board games.
“I can already picture us cozying up here with a fire going,” Monique said, her spirits lifting.
“Exactly,” Ashleigh agreed. “This is our sanctuary for the next two weeks.”
They moved into the kitchen, a small but well-equipped space with modern appliances that contrasted with the rustic charm of the rest of the cabin. The countertops were clean and stocked with basic cooking supplies, and a welcome basket on the table held locally sourced produce and a bottle of wine.
“Look at this,” Monique said, picking up a small jar of homemade jam. “They thought of everything.”
They continued their tour, finding a bathroom with surprisingly modern fixtures. The shower was spacious, and the vanity was stocked with fluffy towels and various bathroom products. Monique smirked as she noticed the stockpile of feminine hygiene products.
“I’m not sure how she knew to stock up on feminine hygiene products,” Monique said with a raised eyebrow. I guess you told her it was us, huh?”
Ashleigh laughed. “Yeah, I mentioned it was two women staying. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask for the essentials.”
“I’m impressed; this is way nicer than I expected,” Monique said.
“Wait until you see the bedrooms,” Ashleigh replied, leading the way upstairs.
The main bedroom was the highlight of the cabin. It featured a large bed with a rustic wooden frame dressed in cozy quilts and soft pillows. French doors opened onto a covered porch that overlooked a babbling stream. Monique stepped outside, inhaling the fresh mountain air and listening to the soothing sound of the water.
“This view is unbelievable,” she said, turning to Ashleigh. “I can’t believe you found this place.”
Ashleigh joined her on the porch. “I knew we needed somewhere special. Somewhere, we could relax and disconnect from everything.”
The second bedroom was smaller but equally charming. It had a single bed and a window that offered a view of the dense forest. Ashleigh placed her bag on the bed and turned to Monique.
“This will be my room. You get the primary suite,” she said with a smile.
Monique felt a surge of gratitude. “Thanks, Ash. Really.”
“I’ve got a whole itinerary planned, too! I promised hiking, yoga, and that winery visit. Oh, and I brought some art supplies for you. I thought you might want to get back into sketching.”
Monique’s throat tightened at her friend’s thoughtfulness. She hadn’t touched her art supplies since before the accident.
“You’re spoiling me on this trip, Ash. Seriously.”
“You just call me Big Momma, Ash.” Ashleigh responded with a terrible impression of a masculine man who provides a special kind of “sugar.” A slight smirk sneaked in, about to make her break character.
Monique looks at her and says, “Anything for you, Big Momma.”
They fell onto the bed after bursting into laughter. After regaining their composure, the two returned downstairs when Monique surprised her friend and wrapped her in an affectionate embrace that symbolized their 20 years of friendship and history. After unpacking, they spent the next hour or so discussing the latest gossip from home. Monique felt more at ease than she had in a while, thanks to the cozy vibe and Ashleigh’s company.
They decided to stroll before dinner as the sun dropped below the tree line, leaving long shadows across the clearing. The forest trail was alive with the sounds of birds settling in for the night and small animals rustling in the underbrush.
“You know, Mo, sometimes all we need is a little nature to remind us of what life is really about,” Ashleigh said softly as they passed the stream. “Two weeks of peace will do wonders for your soul.”
Monique nodded, taking a deep breath of the pine-scented air, fighting her mind’s attempts to remember the hikes with David. He epitomized getting outside and getting to it. She’d thought of him fondly instead of with heavy guilt. A faint sense of hope was felt for the first time in months. Maybe she could start getting better here.
Returning to the cabin, they fell into an easy rhythm of setting dinner together. Ashleigh pulled out the fresh trout they had picked up on the way during the drive-up while Monique set the table. Preparing a meal brought a sense of normalcy that Monique hadn’t realized she’d been missing.
“Who knew we’d make such a great kitchen team?” Monique remarked with a small smile as she arranged the trout on a plate.
“Remember our college days? We were practically gourmet chefs with a hot plate and a microwave,” Ashleigh replied with a laugh, tearing open a packet of herbs.
Monique chuckled. “Yeah, those were the days. Having real food and a real kitchen for a change.”
“Exactly. “And, real friends who stick by your side no matter what,” Ashleigh said, her tone more serious as she met Monique’s eyes.
Monique felt a warmth spread through her chest. “I don’t know what I’d do without you, Ash.”
“Luckily for you, you’ll never have to find out,” Ashleigh replied with a wink.
Monique nodded, feeling a sense of contentment that had been forgotten for far too long. Ashleigh’s promise of a peaceful retreat was beginning to make her feel like things might get better.
They settled to eat, savoring the freshly cooked trout and reminiscing about their road trip. The cabin filled with the delicious aroma of lemon pepper seasonings and thyme, and their laughter echoed through the rustic space.
“This trout was a great idea,” Monique said, licking her fingers. “We should stop by that market again on the way back.”
“Deal,” Ashleigh agreed, holding her fork in a mock toast. “To our first bestie dinner in the cabin!”
“First bestie dinner in the cabin!” Monique echoed, clinking her fork against Ashleigh’s.
After dinner, Monique and Ashleigh settled onto the cabin’s porch, glasses of wine in hand. The surrounding forest hummed with the evening chorus of crickets and frogs. The air was incredible, and the night sky revealed a blanket of stars.
“To, new beginnings,” Ashleigh said, raising her glass of wine.
Monique clinked her glass against her dear friend’s, a genuine smile tugging at her lips. “To a new beginning.”
They sipped their wine in comfortable silence, listening to the symphony of nature around them. Monique felt a sense of peace she hadn’t experienced in a long time.
“So,” Ashleigh began, her voice gentle, “how are you doing, Mo? And don’t give me that ‘I’m fine’ nonsense. I was afraid we’d have to admit you soon enough!”
Monique laughed wryly, then sighed, swirling the wine into her glass. “Honestly? I don’t know. Some days are… better than others.” She paused, struggling to find the words.
“It’s just… everywhere I go back home, I see him. David, I mean. Or I see the looks people give me like they’re just waiting for me to break down.”
Ashleigh reached out and gently squeezed Monique’s hand. “He was your college sweetheart, turned husband, Mo; I can’t even begin to understand how you feel. You are so strong for even making it through the day, even though all you want to do is curl up into a ball and hit ‘Do Not Disturb.’”
“It’s a pain I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, and please know I appreciate you and this beautiful cabin you got for us. I just…” Monique trailed off; her gaze fixed on the darkening forest.
“I can’t help feeling like I’m running away.”
“You’re not running away,” Ashleigh insisted. “You’re taking time to heal; that’s why we’re here. There’s a huge difference.”
Monique nodded slowly. “I guess so. It’s just difficult to see it that way sometimes.”
Ashleigh leaned back in her chair, looking up at the sky. “Something about being out here makes everything else seem so small. The stars, the trees, the sounds of the forest—it’s like a reminder that there’s so much more to life than the pain we carry.”
Monique followed her gaze, the stars twinkling above them. “You’re right. I’ve missed this. Just being able to look up and feel… connected to something bigger.”
“Let’s make a pact,” Ashleigh said suddenly, turning to face Monique. “For the next two weeks, we focus on the present. No dwelling on the past, no worrying about the future. Just being here, right now, is all we need.”
Monique’s eyes met Ashleigh’s, and she saw the sincerity and determination in her friend’s gaze. “I can do that,” she agreed, “for you and me.”
Ashleigh grinned, holding out her pinky finger. “Pinky swear?”
Monique laughed; a sound that felt foreign yet incredible. She linked her pinky with Ashleigh’s. “I pinky swear.”
They stayed on the porch longer, wrapped in blankets, occasionally pointing out an exceptionally bright star or a constellation they recognized. The conversation flowed easily, with light-hearted banter and more profound reflections.
“So, how are the wedding plans going?” Monique asked, genuinely curious.
Ashleigh’s eyes lit up. “Oh, Marc and I have been so busy. It’s coming together, but you know how stressful it can get. Finding the right venue, finalizing the guest list, and don’t even get me started on the dress fittings.”
Monique smiled. “I can’t wait to see you walk down the aisle. You’re going to look stunning.”
Ashleigh squeezed her hand. “And you will be right there beside me, Miss. Maid of Honor, and all. You know I couldn’t do this without you, Mo.”
Monique’s heart warmed at her friend’s words. “I’m honored. Truly.”
“Who else besides my ride-or-die would I want to marry my brother?”
They continued to sip their wine after sharing a giggle. As the night grew colder, they decided to head inside. They secured the cabin, double-checking the locks on the doors and windows before settling into their respective rooms.
As Monique lay in bed, drifting off to sleep to the gentle babbling of the stream outside, she felt a sense of calm wash over her, the weight of the past months lifting ever so slightly. For the first time in a long while — she allowed herself to hope this retreat might bring the healing she desperately needed.
She was about to drift off when a faint sound reached her ears—something soft like gravel crunching underfoot. Monique’s eyes snapped open, and she strained to hear her heart racing. The sound was muffled but distinct, moving slowly around the cabin.
She held her breath, eyes fixed on the shadowy outline of the window. For a moment, she thought she saw a flicker of movement—a vague, shadowed figure blending into the night. She started peering out of the window when she was proven correct by being startled back into bed, playing asleep to avoid detection. The figure paused, leering into the window, no longer lingering at the forest’s edge from their arrival. She and Ashleigh were on the second floor of the log cabin; how could they have possibly gotten up here? Monique’s heart began to pound in her chest as she scrambled to find her phone and turn on the flashlight. Immediately after she looked up, the figure disappeared, leaving only an eerie silence in the master cabin suite. Shadows cast on her wall began forming the same silhouette she’d just seen a moment prior.
Monique exhaled shakily, feeling quite irrational. She told herself it must be a trick of the moonlight and her overactive imagination, but the unease lingered. She instinctively knew she should check on Ashleigh, but trepidation kept her in bed, her intuition faltering in the oppressive silence. The promise of peace in this dense forest now felt tenuous, as if the darkness outside held secrets that were just beginning to stir.

Weird combo but I'd love to know!
(Shhh that's totally okay oh my gosh! I love different types of combos of questions! :D) For this, I'll answer with my main WHA OC Leoht!
Tumblr media
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?
Leoht was actually inspired from a, "Create a Witch Hat Atelier OC," meme going around a few years ago! For each question that was on the prompt sheet, one comment on the post would decide what each part of him would end up being! So, it went something to the effect of this:
1.) Brimhat or pointy hat? Pointy hat
2.) Magic specialty? Lightning
3.) Forbidden body mods or occupation? Occupation: Using lightning magic in some form
4.) Where do they live? The Assembly/the Great Hall
5.) Color scheme? They have a dark color scheme with very vibrant details (imagining lightning striking through a dark cloud)
6.) Hat details? Inspired by Sailor Moon's Makoto's oak leaves crown
7.) Robe details? Very clean and elegant robe with decorations related to lightning; basically, the outside is very fancy, but inside has a thunder pattern and more chaotic?
(The final two that needed comments ( 8.) Extras? and 9.) Pen design?) I came up with myself)
And thus Leo's creation was assured thanks to a fun little meme all my friends were participating in at the time JJKLGSKLJGKJ
As for what inspired his personality as a character, even though he's since deviated from his original inspirations and has become his own thing over time, I definitely initially based his personality around really goofy, charismatic, not-a-single-thought-in-that-head and sunshine-y characters such as Flynn Rider and Rapunzel bc I was basically trying to make an OC that encapsulated my favorite character archetypes and mashing them all together
But nowadays he definitely has a nice balance of everything I love in my favorite character types, and I'm really happy with how far he's come in his development since then!
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?
Oh, absolutely! I'd say his biggest ones that affect him the most would be his fear of water, fear of thunder (ironically) and fear of heights.
His fear of water has been around for about as long as he can remember, though whether that fear is because he's afraid of the idea of drowning or because he's never learned how to swim is unclear even to him, but he has a feeling that the two kind of go hand-in-hand in contributing to his fear. He'll still go around smaller bodies of water like streams and the like, but anything bigger than that and he gets paranoid about tripping and falling in
His fear of thunder is more so due to the loud booming noise of it more than anything. Since he was little, he's always gotten rattled up by loud sudden noises, and thunder was no different. Even when he lived underwater via The Great Hall, the muffled noise of thunder above the surface was still enough to keep him awake at night, and once he moved into his professor's atelier for the first time and had to bare witness to thunder full-throttle without the safety net of the sea above him-- well, it really only further cemented a phobia he already had and cranked it up to an eleven
As for his fear of heights, Leo only really started developing a phobia of it when he was first learning how to fly with his shoes. One wrong glyph drawn on the soles of his shoes was all it really took to make him utterly terrified of flying high in the air like that again, and even though for a bit (after he met his childhood friend Elric, who tried his best to help Leo overcome that phobia) Leo seemed more or less calmer about heights than he used to be, after his and Elric's friendship ended out of nowhere during their youth Leo found his confidence in flying shaken and his ability to do so properly even more so. So, despite trying his hardest to hide his phobia of heights from those around him as an adult, all it takes is looking at his face once to realize he's completely and utterly horrified at the events that are unfolding that led him back into the air after so long spent deliberately avoiding it
🎓 - How long have you had the OC?
I've had Leoht living in my brain since January 13th, 2022 (but technically he was starting to exist on the 9th since I was brainstorming him around that time)! He's officially been around for the past two years now, and I'm honestly so beyond happy and proud of how much he's grown and developed as a character; and I'm even happier that I revisited his outfit design last year and gave him a much needed new and improved one since I was learning more about character design and how I wanted to incorporate the different elements I wanted for his character into his clothing; the colors are definitely a massive upgrade bc his old outfit colors were hideous to me JKJLKSJDKLG

[ID: A thin border divider showing a sliver of a golden sky streaked by rain clouds above a dark blue sea.]
ON THE TUMBLR WRITING COMMUNITY
How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr?
Since, like, 2020? Somewhere thereabouts.
What led you to create it?
Wanting to connect with writers/readers outside of Ao3 (it's just not set up for conversations outside of comment threads). And wanting to raise my characters up like baby Simba at the start of The Lion King for more of the Internet to behold.
What’s your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?
It's about the connection. 🤌 Plenty of writing communities, both on and offline, focus on critique or getting something published. Which can be great, if it's what you're after. But I think having others who genuinely cheer you on and let you ramble is just as important to helping writers through the often messy process of creating.
What’s one thing you’d like your mutuals to know about you?
I can be a bit shy or slow to interact, but once I'm invited in I'll haunt follow your blog or writing even if I'm not constantly saying anything.
Is there anything you’d like to see more of on your dash?
People talking about what they love, in published work and with writeblr stuff. A lot of the time I read or watch something because of the way others talk about it. That includes your own writing!
What tips/advice do you have for someone who made a Writeblr today?
Be patient, manage your expectations, and focus on having some fun. There's no algorithm here and even less clout. Writers can and do build audiences on Tumblr, but it's uniquely suited to allow us to experiment and be weird too.
WIP IT GOOD
Which Works-in-Progress (WIPs) or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?
I'm rewriting Apophenia, a novel about a supernatural researcher enduring the worst assignment of his life. A lot of my other projects are set in the same world.
How long have you been working on them?
Over five years now, I think! I'm slow.
Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?
The Chocolate Box event on Ao3! The prompt was for a human captured by a vampire, but I wound up creating an entire world and series. Oops.
How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?
If I'm not thinking about these characters it's only because I'm dead.
When someone asks the dreaded, “What do you write about,” question, what do you usually say?
Gay vampire trash.
What do you want to say (if it’s different from what you do say)?
I write about characters who struggle towards community, compassion, and being better people despite a) their flaws, and b) the world burning down around them. I hope that it gives me the courage to continue doing the same.
LET’S ROTATE BLORBOS
Name any characters you created.
I'll direct you to some mood boards/intros even: Isaac Soto Márquez, Renato Faria Dimas, Dorian St-Ange, Kinslayer, Elfy Bosques-Rodriguez, Ankaris the Memory Salesman, Fior the Master Transcriber, Vess the Collector. And here's a comic sans presentation for Apophenia.
Who’s the most unhinged?
Outwardly? Any of my necromancers. They come in a wide variety of styles, from Motley sewing patches of skin onto itself, to Acacius of Antioch who drapes his bejeweled and gilded bones in black veils. Each also has an, um, unique view of (un)life, the body, and ethics. Views which could come across as unhinged.
Who comes the most naturally for you to write?
At this point Isaac Soto, the protagonist of Apophenia. We do share a few similarities, but mostly I've just been writing him for years now.
Do you ever cringe at them?
At my characters or their antics? I wouldn't give them the satisfaction.
How much control do you feel you have over your characters?
They do frequently just spring ideas and actions on me, but I have the ultimate say in what makes it onto the page. Same with having the power/responsibility of changing something I realize isn't working, is insensitive, etc.
Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters?
Always and forever, yes. 💜 Send me asks, comment in the tags or on Ao3, shriek in reblogs, replies, or a dm. It doesn't matter how--I love whenever someone is curious or interested enough to ask something about my fictional creations.
ON WRITEBLR ENGAGEMENT
What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account?
Sometimes it's based on vibes, sometimes I really like the sound of their stories. I appreciate a sense of whimsy and/or humor especially. And someone who likes spooky as well as fantasy stuff.
What makes you decide against following?
Two things: A) Their intro already has, like, 80+ notes (though the vibe/story will override this), and B) lots of posts hating on things/trends/people. I don't mean venting or sometimes ranting, which is everyone's right. I mean someone's whole brand is ridicule or just immediately seeing the bad in everything. Which is still their right. It's also mine to avoid it, and I think this is mutually beneficial. Thankfully, though, this experience has been very rare for me on writeblr.
Do you interact with non-mutuals often?
I try to. I'll reblog, read, comment, take an open tag, whatever when I have the energy. I mean, how else do writers get readers? It takes people who might not know you personally talking about your work a lot of the time.
Do your mutuals’ characters occupy space in your noodle?
I am absorbing the essence of your blorbos as we speak, making them an eternal part of me.

AITA Tag!
No one tagged me but I enjoyed the first one so much that I have decided to do it again.
Rules: Make an Am I The Asshole post (look at r/aita for examples if you haven’t seen them ) for an OC
From Kell:
AITA for “Betraying” Xaeren before his ritual to kill a goddess?
Ok so I met Xaeren when I accidentally stole a rune and money from him in Daliva. I didn’t know who he was at this point, but I used that money to buy passage on a ship to Zairel where I forged papers to get into the lysandri school of magic. At school I heard of Xaeren. An assassin, the most powerful caster in generations, a traveller and a storyteller. He had recently returned to the city and people were intrigued. Anyway, I had carried the rune with me all the way to the school, not knowing what it was and Xaeren found me there to reclaim his property. We spoke for a while, I gave back the rune and realised he really wasn’t as malicious as some stories made him out to be. I was struggling at school and he offered to teach me magic and in return I would give him information about a variety of different higher level spells house lysandri kept.
He was particularly interested in the work of Muliva Kazi and the magestones and he told me he planned to kill the goddess of death. I laughed this off at first but the deeper we got in this the more serious he seemed. He taught me so much magic and he was always kind to me but I began to realise how powerful he really was and that I might be getting in well over my head.
I asked him exactly what he wanted me to do and he told me he would never put me in danger, but if I wanted out I should tell him then because soon it might be too late.
I chose to join him. I wanted to learn more magic, to grow more powerful and succeed as a mage and he was my path to that, if it all got too much I could easily cut and run back the the lysandri mages.
This became more complicated when the lysandri mages found out about his plan and labelled him a wanted criminal for crimes against the natural order. He had found a way to kill the goddess and I had agreed before the mages came into it but this made me start to question my allegiance.
The day before the ritual I told him I could not do it. I couldn’t sabotage my entire career, my entire life as a lysandri mage just for his unachievable project so I left him. He was angry saying I had betrayed him, that I was his way back but even in the end he didn’t push me to help if I wanted to leave.
They told me he died in the ritual and took the goddess with him.
I just wonder if anything would have been different had I been there for him. I don’t regret putting my career first, I am now a high mage and a member of the ivy council because of that decision. Still I wonder was it wrong to leave him there after all he did for me?
So AITA for ‘betraying’ him before his ritual to kill the goddess?

Writer Questionnaire ❦
Taking a break from writing to catch up on my tags writing 2 books at once is not for the weak 😭 so thank you @drchenquill for the tag as always!
- how long have you had your writing tumblr/writerblr? a fast and loose estimate is fine!
At least since April or early May!
- what lead you to create it?
I wanted to connect with other writers and creatives to make new friends!
- what's your favorite thing about the writer community?
My favorite part is the absolute powerhouse of creativity and innovation. You all have this incredible knack for coming up with unique ideas that never fail to inspire me. Plus, they're hilarious! Their sense of humor adds a delightful twist to everything we do, making even the wildest ideas feel approachable and fun. Honestly, being around such talent and laughter is a constant source of my motivation and joy!
- what’s one thing you'd like in mutual to know about you?
No notification I receive on this app goes unnoticed. I'll be at work, smiling because someone found my writing and enjoyed it! It means so much to me and only makes me want to write even more!
- is there anything you'd like to see more of on your dash?
I would love more collaboration and interaction in my messages. I am open to discussing and exchanging ideas with another writer. I’m particularly interested in co-creating a planetary system and bouncing creative ideas back and forth.
- which wips or writing projects are you noodling about lately
I'm currently working on fleshing out a novel titled Journals from The Whitmore Estate, which is a modern/historical fiction story. The novel explores the slave and civil war era, and also delves into our near future. It centers around the actions of a power-hungry ancestor who sought to shift power dynamics, and the resulting centuries of generational backlash.
- how long have you been working on them?
Its been about a few months, I had to take a break to give myself new perspectives and coming to a decision on who the main character was!
- do you remember what inspired them/what got you started
I was looking at writing prompts and came across one that said something along the lines of “Your character inherits a manor from a distant relative. Upon moving in, they discover what lies within its walls, answering why your family has been plagued by bad luck for as long as anyone can remember.”
- how much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?
Wayyy too much! Now rhat I've found the main character, I can't put it down!
- when someone ask the dreaded "what do you write about?" question what do you usually say?
“I write whatever comes to mind!” Or “You can read my writings to find out.” 😗
- name any characters you created. Side characters, protagonist, antagonist, characters who’ve never been written, the first original abomination you ever pulled from your ass; whomever you’d like!
Kirjani is my favorite oc to date! Her chosen family: Rick, Raelin, and Lena. The three sisters from the Isles of Aurorith! Imani, Jade and Jasmine, the first ocs I ever created, they deserve their story to be told. (I’m working on it!!) My scrapped character folder is at about 60 something, but the one I just couldn't figure out completely was their grandmother Queen Amara, those who've followed me for a while probably remember her! She was just a bit too sinister and I tried to work around certain motivations and rationality kept getting in the way 🤣 I might use her for another story of mine I've been thinking about
- who’s the most unhinged?
I think it would be between Amara or Kirjani for sure. One of them is justifiably so, the other… not so much LOL
- who comes the most naturally for you to write?
Jules a gay sophmore in high school who is grieving the sudden loss of his mother (I haven't introduced him yet!) He's the first character I've ever based on myself or someone like me rather.
- do you ever cringe at them?
Oh yeah, that’s when I'm writing his best romantic scenes. Love, especially teen romance is supposed to be cringy and awkward at times. That's what makes it so!
- how much control do you feel you have over your characters? do they ever “write themselves,” refuse to cooperate, or do things you didn’t expect? to what degree? are some less cooperative than others?
They literally form their own lives that I just go with, its their world I’m just living in and writing it! I'm considerably outnumbered lmao
- do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters? and do you have a preferred means of receiving said questions? for example, as asks, as replies, as reblogs, as tag notes, as comments on ao3, etc.
More than words can express, that's why I love sharing my characters and their personalities. I want to open discussions on humanity and how the human condition can create dynamically and perplexing people!
- what makes you want to follow another writeblr account? do you follow ‘em as you see ‘em, or take time scoping out the blog to make sure you align with its content? do you follow based on wips, or vibes?
I don't really have enough mutuals or followers, so I follow people based on their creativity and if they're on Writeblr. I don't have much discernment at the moment :)
- what makes you decide against following?
Just depends. I guess I haven't found a page I've ever said, “Oh no, can't follow that,” too.
- do you interact with non-mutuals often?
Not really, and if I follow you and you don't follow me back, I will give you 24 hours before I unfollow. We're all creatives here; no one is more creative than the next person, in my opinion.
This was so much fun to answer, I have so many more tags to do, but I’m not gonna stress ah finishing them all today 🥲 I have some short stories I wanna post as well from the weekend.
I tag @leahpardo-pa-potato, @slenders1ckn3ss, and @coffeewritesfiction. + open tag to any writer interested!

Fun line
Thanks @pluttskutt here, @the-golden-comet here, @happypup-kitcat24 here, and @mysticstarlightduck here!
Rules—Post a line that you're tremendously pleased by and a line that’s just out-of-context ridiculous
Pleased By:
From The Secret Portal Part One (Maddie POV)
“Reach inside yourself,” Carla continued. “Feel the animal inside of you.” “What does that mean?” “It means that you need to look deep within yourself,” she “clarified.”
Out of Context:
From The Secret Portal Part One (Robbie POV)
“You thinking about something?” Akash asked at the table as I stared at the bowl in front of me. “Have you ever thought about how cereal is like the skeleton of milk?”
Yeah yeah I've posted these before, but I don't think everyone has seen both!! Besides, I was overthinking what to use, so here's what I did.

✨Seven(ish) Sentence Sunday 🧞‍♂️✨
Thank you to the lovely Mawce aka @justabigoldnerd for this Seven Sentence Sunday tag! Always a pleasure! ✨
Editing back through my work and I stumbled into this asshole. 🙃
Mal staggered with a half-empty bottle of airplane wine in hand, that daddy’s money paid for. Unlike his cohort, Noah had to work hard to get into his graduate program; Without his scholarships, unpaid internships, and paid TA and tutor jobs on top of being a full-time student, there was no way that Noah would have been able to afford his tuition. His parents kicked him out early on, so he didn’t have the luxury of wasting time nor money. He was there to get his degree, land a decent-paying job in his field of interest, and get the fuck out.
The well-libated colleague “accidentally” spilled some of the alcohol all over Noah’s front, and he appeared to have been aiming for the laptop. “—!!” Noah reacted just in time, pulling his equipment away from the splash zone as Mal laughed cruelly.
Definitely some contention here on all sides. 🤔✨
As always, I will leave this as an +open tag and gently alert the tag list. Happy Sunday! 💫✨
