MAKING OUT WITH THE BRIDE'S FATHER - JOEL MILLER HEADCANONS ✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No outbreak!Joel Miller x f!reader
A/N: the reason why I love Pedro so much is that he always makes me feel alive no matter how bad the situation is 💟
A/N #2: besties I'm so sorry about this Headcanon, I know it's sooooo bad, but I had the idea several weeks ago I think I don't really remember and I've been writing a little bit every day since but I went through a lot in a short time and I lost inspiration but at the same time it was really bothering me to see it lying in my drafts unfinished, I'm sorry it sucks, but I love you all 💕
Tumblr media
• you met Sarah Miller when she was only a freshman girl, completely lost in her first day of college after she was dropped off and looking like a scared little deer even if she tried assuring you she was alright
• you were a few years older than her and you'd been there, so you pretended to believe she was alright but still offered her some help to get her dorm organized and simply find herself around campus; she quickly accepted it and that was how your friendship had started
• during the semester, you became one of Sarah's best friends; as you were always there to help her out, advise her or simply offer her some company or comfort the days she felt lonely and missed her family too much - you knew she didn't know her mom and she was raised by her dad and her uncle which you thought it was pretty awesome of them, but other than that, you didn't actually hear much about them, as you both often talked about other stuff
• and so the years passed and soon enough Sarah was graduating and marrying her college sweetheart, Ben, who'd been introduced to her by you during a party, so it was more than exciting to be invited to that beautiful party
• so you packed your bags, got yourself a decent place on Airbnb and went to Austin, to celebrate the wedding of your beloved friend, due to conflicting schedules, you could only get there a few days before the wedding, which ruined your plans of meeting Sarah's family, having dinner together and getting to the city, since the most you were able to do was just handle the last adjustment and details for your dress, help Sarah with the arrangements for the party and of course, party hard in her bachelorette party
• the bachelorette party was partially organized by you, as you never really knew how those things were supposed to go, other than just the scenes you saw in several movies, should you go to a male strip club? Should there be men half naked rubbing themselves against you and your friends? You weren't so sure, so you talked to Sarah and you picked a nice nightclub to dance and drink
• so you and your group of friends hit the club, all in your best clothes, nice heels and Sarah wearing a cute little party veil so everyone would know she was the bride to be. The night was perfect and you danced and drank as much as you wanted, knowing you could just call yourself a Uber to go home
• you stayed until the end of the party, your group of friends had all left home in different Uber rides and Sarah was picked up by Ben just some moments ago, so you grabbed your purse, paid for your part of your check and went to the parking lot, since your uber wouldn't take much to get there
• and that was when you saw him: easily the most handsome man you'd ever seen, older than you of course, tall, broad, brown hair salt and peppered and leaning against his truck. He seemed to be waiting for someone, but his attention was immediately shifted towards you, and he couldn't pay attention to anything else
• you just caught Joel's attention as you walked out of that bar; you didn't seem drunk or wasted, but definitely a little tipsy and while he wasn't a creep - Sarah had accidentally called him and asked him to pick her up and there was no way in the world he wouldn't come for his little girl, even if she wasn't little anymore and was going to be a married girl in a couple of days
• and even when she explained to her dad that she didn't mean to call him and he didn't need to pick her up because she was already going home with Ben - clearly drunk, which bothered Joel but he couldn't actually do anything about it - he said he was just going back to sleep, omitting the fact he was already at the parking lot waiting for her. She wasn't a child anymore, but he really missed when she was one because then, she would still be his sweet little Sarah wearing her cute star PJs to bed, and not exiting the club completely drunk like she did a while ago
• but all that whining went away in the blink of an eye once Joel spotted you, because he couldn't recall seeing a better looking woman at a bar in so fucking long, that or it was because he hadn't gotten laid in so long, his balls might've been blue but he wasn't just gonna empty them on the first woman he saw, so he just kept using his hand for it
• but you... He swallowed hard and decided to take a few steps towards you, after all, it wouldn't hurt just to make sure you were doing okay and no creeps were bothering you, because he wasn't a creep, he just wanted to make sure you were alright
• and when you saw Joel walking towards you, you felt your breath caught in your chest. He was so freaking handsome, big and manly, the kind of man to put you on all fours and fuck you while he whispers into your ear what a good girl for him you really are
• and you didn't remember much of your interaction with him, when you realized what you were doing, you were pressed against the hood of his truck, kissing him hungrily while his strong hands squeezed your body and roamed all over you; your hands messing up with his curls, tugging at them slightly as you moaned into his mouth, against better judgement you could let yourself be fucked by him at that moment
• however, you didn't even know his name, it was a dangerous game your body begged you to play, but your rational side was still too alert for it, so when you managed to see your Uber had arrived, you found strength in yourself to get rid of his intoxicating touch in your body and simply run to the car, you should've asked his name, but you didn't
• and the following days after that night at the bar, as much as you tried thinking of something else, all you could focus on, was that handsome man and the way he held you, he gripped your body and kissed you; it was different from any kind of touch you'd experienced, that mysterious man seemed addictive to you
• but as the wedding approached, your lustful thoughts had to be placed aside so you could focus on all the tasks you had to do: help Sarah get ready, check the venue for her and so on, not to mention getting ready yourself for the event, being so busy you totally skipped the part where you'd meet her family
• as you waited in church for her with the rest of your friends, you couldn't help but being extremely shocked to see Sarah walking down the aisle by her father, whom you had never actually seen before that night at the bar, but he happened to be your mysterious fling from the parking lot
• Joel also couldn't believe the hot girl he'd made out with was his daughter's best friend, he knew he was older than you even if you both hadn't much time to talk, but he didn't expect that
• you two had to stop those feelings aside so you could focus on the ceremony, but the way Joel kept glancing at you, made it pretty obvious you'd have a very interesting wedding reception afterwards 😉

“Tenma’s here,” your mom calls up from the kitchen.
The announcement is unnecessary because Tenma has yet to learn how to walk quietly, stomping up the stairs to your room.
His face is set in a scowl too, dark curls and dark eyes giving him quite an evil aura.
But you’ve known him long enough not to care about that.
“Grab a scarf,” you tell him as soon as he steps through the door, “I’m playing wedding.”
“Not again,” he groans, though does as he is told. The pink scarf he picks has hundreds of little coins sown to it, chiming as he wraps it around his shoulders and moves through the room.
“I’m a Djinn,” he exclaims, “I will curse you.”
“Djinn’s don’t curse people! They fulfill wishes,” you correct him.
“Fine,” he huffs, “What do you wish for?”
“I want Tenma to play the husband.”
“Not again!” He groans, throwing his hands in the air.
“You have to!” You declare, “Djinn’s always have to follow their master's wishes!”
He huffs and whines and begs but it’s no use. He plays the husband to your wife.
“Can we play outside now?” He asks as soon as you kiss his cheek and declare the marriage official. “Mom brought my ball.”
“Fine,” you decide to be nice today. “But don’t kick it too hard. I don’t like that.”
.
- 8 -
“It’s so weird that you’ve got a boy as a best friend,” Asuka exclaims. Your small group of (girl)friends has gathered in your favorite spot, overlooking the garden and the big open space below. Tenma’s playing Ball with a group of boys and he’s easy to pick out, he’s always the smallest in any group.
“You think so?” You ask back, taking one of the strawberries Sango brought for lunch break today. “It’s not like I had a chance. Our mothers are best friends. He’s basically my annoying twin brother.”
“Do you think he’s cute?” Ryo asks, looking up from where she’s painting Tomoko’s nails.
You consider this for a moment, look down to where he’s running around, red-faced and panting. He’s not ugly, that much you can tell, but cute?
“I don’t think so,” you say, because it’s better than to admit that you don’t really know what cute really means for a guy. You think babies are cute, but that’s not the same thing, right?
“I think he’s cute,” Ryo admits easily now that she thinks she knows where you stand. “Can I ask him to be my boyfriend?”
“I mean you can ask,” you offer, feeling a little weird that she asks you in the first place, “but I don’t know what he’ll answer you. I bet he still thinks girls are gross.”
.
- 10 -
“I think you’re getting a little too old to be sharing a bathtub,” your mother announces after Tenma has left.
“We weren’t sharing,” you explain, drying your hair. “We were playing that he was my magical shapeshifting dog but he rolled around in a mountain of dragon poop and I had to give him a bath. He pulled me in when I was almost done washing him.”
Your mother sighs. “Aren’t you getting a little old for those stories too?”
You tense and she notices right away.
“Dear, I didn’t mean… if this is how you want to play, I’m totally fine with that. I was just wondering…”
“How else are we supposed to play?” You ask, unable to keep the agitation out of your voice. “Am I supposed to kiss him and hold hands like the other girls in my class are pretending to do? Or play Volleyball the whole day? Or just do our homework and study, study, study until we fall asleep? Or play video games that you don’t like because they make you dumb? How are we supposed to play?”
Your mother sighs again, lowers herself until she’s sitting crosslegged on the floor next to you.
“Come,” she says, opening her arms until you crawl into her like you used to do. “I’m sorry. I know, as your mother, I should say and do all the right things but that was pretty stupid of me. Can you forgive me?”
You nod and she pulls you in a little closer, kissing your damp hair. “Now tell me, what do you like to do? What’s fun?”
You lean into her, the familiar smell and warmth, and let yourself open up.
“When I come up with a story, Tenma always makes it bigger. Like today, when I said: Do you wanna play my dog, it was his idea that he could shapeshift. And that we’re living in a world that has dragons. And… and I was a maiden that had a tavern and there would be knights who came by to slay the dragons but the dragons are actually our friends… It’s like reading a book but you’re in it, you know? And he doesn’t ask about who I like and what I like and what I think is cute all the time. That’s so annoying.”
“You like hanging out with Tenma?”
“He’s okay,” you offer and she snorts. “If he ever gets on your nerves, you can tell me, okay? I know boys can be annoying too.”
“I can handle Tenma,” you tell her, knowing you’re right. “But can you, like, not allow me to go to Ryo’s sleepover next week? She’s so obsessed with boys and she always pranks someone during sleepover. I don’t want to wake up with my head shaved.”
.
- 12 -
“Do you wanna be my girlfriend?”
To say you’re surprised would be an understatement.
It’s not that you don’t get chocolates and confessions, because you do, a lot actually even though you decline every time, but never from Tenma.
For a long second neither of you does or says anything and all you see of him is the back of his neck as he bows.
But then he pops up, a weird grin on his face.
“Got you!” He declares, opening the pack of chocolates and biting into it without a moment of hesitation. “Did you think that was real?”
“No,” you say even though that’s a lie, “Why did you do it?”
He shrugs, offering you the chocolate. You take a bite as well, feeling a little smug that neither of you cares that it will be an “indirect kiss” as the girls call it.
“Everyone thinks we’re dating,” he admits finally when he pulls the chocolate back again, “just wanted to see what you think about it.”
“It’s annoying,” you declare ad you should have watched his face a little closer because something like a shadow moves over it, but it’s gone before you can catch it. “You’re like my brother.”
“Yeah,” he says, but it sounds a little weak for someone as headstrong as Tenma.
You don’t wanna think about it though, so you poke his shoulder. “Where did you get the chocolate?”
“Someone confessed to me. I said no but I kept the chocolate because they thought I was dating you and still confessed. That’s stupid.”
“Mhm,” you don’t ask for a name. “Wanna stay and play a bit before we walk home?”
“Volleyball?” He asks, ears perking up.
“Sure.”
.
- 14 -
Neither of you is dating anyone.
None of your girlfriends believes that you’re not into Tenma and you’ve given up on convincing them of the truth. You don’t really want to date anyone. You like solving puzzles and coming up with crazy ideas that Tenma can bend and fold into even crazier stories. You like going for a run with him in the morning because even though you hate waking up early it sets your mind at ease and you like going for a run with him in the evening because without it, you’ll be unable to sleep.
Sure, there are some good-looking boys in your class. But maybe you’ve spent too much time around Tenma, or boys in general, to find any appeal in them.
They fart and they burp and they dig their dirty fingers into their noses and they refuse to shower even though they smell awful and sweaty. The number of times you’ve had to drag Tenma into the shower, turn it on, and hold him under the spray because you couldn’t allow him in your room otherwise and he wouldn’t go on his own is too high to admit at this point.
It helps a little that Tenma thinks the same of girls.
Not that the girls from your class are as disgusting as the boys.
But they giggle too much and they always flutter their lashes at him which he thinks is a little creepy and they don’t listen to him when he talks about anything that isn’t their appearance.
“I like talking to you instead,” he admits and this is probably the highest praise he’s ever sung you, “you know what I’m talking about.”
And you know what he means because you always know what he means. It’s not that hard. Tenma likes stories, the crazier the better, and he likes volleyball. And food, but he’s picky with that, giving you his tomatoes and eating all your salmon even though you’d have wanted to eat that yourself.
All the other girls in your class are talking about boyfriends and getting married and having a family and all you want to think about is solving riddles with Tenma or telling him a story so he doesn’t make you practice receives with him.
.
- 16 -
“Did you get your first kiss already?” Hisoka asks and you shake your head. Nothing sounds less appealing than tasting someone else’s spit.
“Don’t you and Tenma kiss?” She asks and you stare at her as if she’d said that Alien’s are real.
“Why would we kiss?”
“You’re dating, aren’t you? Everyone says that you’re dating.”
“He’s like my brother,” you tell her. “We grew up together.”
“But you’re the manager of the Volleyball team too.”
“Yeah, because I like Volleyball.”
She huffs. “Okay, who do you like? I think Tsukishima is still single.”
Tsukishima, blond, tall, and universally liked, blushes like a strawberry. You glare at him for eavesdropping.
“I’m not interested in anyone,” you declare loudly. You hope that’s the end of it.
It isn’t.
.
“Hey, can you walk home without me? We’re going to prank the store owner down the street,” Tenma hands you his bag without waiting for an answer.
You walk home alone, grumbling to yourself about how you would have wanted to play along with the prank.
But it doesn’t matter.
After years of being an okay player, Karasuno’s trainer seems to have spotted something in Tenma that he didn’t even expect there himself.
Extra training. More time on the court. Recognition from others.
Soon enough you’re sidelined with Tsukishima and the others.
First-year managers are not allowed on the court during official matches.
Is there anything worse than realizing that you’ve made a mistake? Putting all your faith in one friend only to realize they can drop you without a moment’s hesitation?
.
“Tenma’s here,” your mother calls out from the kitchen.
You’re not fast enough at sprinting toward your door. He slips into your room before you’ve managed to close it.
“Tsukishima told me you’re leaving the team?” He sounds out of breath. Did he run here?
“I’m just a manager, it’s not like the team will notice,” you scoff, pushing him off your bed. “Besides I’m taking up Advanced English, so I’ll have more time to study.”
“What? Are you going to turn boring now?”
“You’re boring!” You scream, surprised by the anger that’s spilling from your lips. It feels as if he’d stabbed you with that question and all the words are just the blood that’s spraying out of open wounds. “All you do is play volleyball and think you’re the greatest and it sucks!”
“You suck!” He yells back. “You’re just jealous I’m finally cool!”
“You’ll never be cool!”
Tenma stomps his foot like a little kid before storming out of your room.
You can hear the front door slam shut all the way up to your room and if you crawl into your bed to cry right after that’s nobody’s business but yours.
And your mother’s, as it seems, because she appears at your doorstep just a few minutes later.
“Wanna tell me what that was all about?”
“No.”
“Hm, maybe not right now,” she offers at your tear-soaked voice, “but I expect an explanation until tomorrow evening, okay? Tenma’s family to me too. You know we can solve all fights with good communication.”
You don’t answer and she leaves you alone to wallow in your despair.
.
“Tenma wants to apologize,” Udai-san pushes him toward you. Your mother nudges you forward in much the same way.
“I don’t want you to be cool,” you say instead, the words prickly on your tongue. “I like you better when you’re not cool.”
Tenma’s eyes flutter around the room, arms crossed. Your mothers leave the room and you sink into the floor, annoyed and hurt and so many more things you can’t properly name.
“Do you really think I’m boring?” Your voice is much to vulnerable for your liking.
But it stills his nervous movement and he sinks onto the floor just like you, heavy and exhausted. You’ve never fought like this before.
“I think you’re trying to be,” he offers quietly, “but I want to you to keep playing Volleyball with me.”
“I’m just a manager.”
“Yeah, but it feels like you’re playing with me. And… and you’ve always been the smart one, okay? Everyone’s always said: Tenma, you should be more like her. She’s so smart. Can’t she tutor you? No one ever told you to play Volleyball like me. No one ever told anyone to try to be like me until now.”
“I’ve always wanted to be as creative as you,” you offer and even though he wrinkles his nose you can tell he’s touched by that.
It feels like you’re standing at a crossroads. Whatever you decide or do or say next will change the trajectory of this friendship. You’re not ready for that. You doubt you’ll ever be.
As long as there’s the safety of your past, you’ll always try to grasp it.
“Do you wanna play my dog?”
.
- 18 -
You’re not sure if it’s the awful music, the crowd around you, the smell of sweat and food and spilled soda, or just everything all at once, but you don’t think College parties are for you.
You recall a balcony or backdoor to your left so you move that way, push against the wall of bodies with everything that you’ve got, panic already bubbling in your throat.
Someone grabs your hand just as you’re gasping for air and with a well-aimed push you’re through, cool air hugging you like a loved relative at a family dinner.
“You good?” Tenma’s squinting down at you. He’s grown a little during break, though you doubt he’ll ever be as tall as the other guys on his former Volleyball team.
“Yeah, thanks.”
His hand is still around yours, now pulling you down the path into the dark garden.
“Where are we going?”
“Dunno, getting some fresh air into you. Met anyone you like?”
“Yeah, the fridge.”
He snickers. “What about that girl from your business Class?”
“She’s trying to eat the face of some guy I don’t know.”
“Tsukishima?”
“Pretended he didn’t know me.”
“Aww, I’m wounded.”
“I bet you are. What about you? Any hot girls tried to talk to you?”
“About that,” he knocks his elbow into your side, “one of them tried to kiss me.”
“A hot girl tried to kiss you?” He nudges you again at your incredulous tone.
“Don’t act so surprised. I’m famous.”
“Bet you are,” you snicker. “But what happened? Did she realize you’re not a tall girl but a small guy and run away?”
“No,” his voice sounds weird now, but you can barely see his face in the dark, “I turned her down. Didn’t want my first kiss to happen at some party.”
“How do you want your first kiss to happen?”
“Ah,” you know he’s just shaking his head from left to right as he’s thinking, you don’t have to be able to see him for that, “Like this, you know? In the garden in the dark? That’s kinda romantic.”
“Should have brought someone else over here then.”
His hand lets go of yours.
“Right,” he says, voice weirdly tight.
“Shit, did I ruin the mood?” You ask, nudging your elbow into whatever you can reach, “I can get that hot girl for you. Just tell me what she looks like.”
“Do you wanna get KFC instead?” He must have turned his back to you. You don’t know what you said to derail this conversation, but it’s clear he doesn’t want to keep it up.
“Sure,” you agree, “but you’re paying.”
.
- 20 -
Tenma has started growing his hair out.
You’d be lying if you said it didn’t suit him.
You’d be a filthy, awful, terrible liar if you said you didn’t want to drag your hands through it all the damn time.
“You should cut your hair,” you tell him when you meet up for lunch, “You look like a homeless guy.”
“And you look like a sexy secretary,” he jokes, pulling you in and putting you in a headlock. It feels brotherly and it’s just what you need to get through this lunchdate that’s not a date.
Somewhere in between graduating Highschool and today Tenma’s gotten hot.
Or maybe you’ve just finally gone through puberty, discovered all the hormone’s healthy teenage girls were supposed to have.
Last week you even sniffed his leather jacket when he was in the bathroom and you wished you could have put in on for a few minutes, but you feared he’d notice and how would you ever live that down?
“Did you get any feedback on that story you submitted?” You ask, trying not to overthink his comment. It’s probably meant as a loving insult, after all you’re not a secretary.
“Yes, actually, they told me they’re printing it.”
“No way,” you shut the menu again, “You’re joking, right?”
He grins. “You think I’m joking?”
“Not really, but I wanna make sure you’re being honest with me before I pay for your lunch.”
“You could let me pay and we call this a date,” he says and even though you catch yourself freezing up you can see on his face that he caught it.
“I was joking,” he tells you and if you’d be able to be honest, if you’d trust yourself not to ruin this, you’d tell him that his joking is the one thing that makes you still freeze up in fear.
After all, you don’t throw away a friendship of twenty years to a joke, right?
“I know,” you tell him pointedly, clearing your throat and opening the menu again. “Which means you’re paying for yourself.”
“Come on,” he whines, but his voice comes easy now, which means you can breathe again.
The moment is gone and somehow, you’re sure, you’ll survive the next one too.
.
“Can’t your girlfriend sleep in your room?” You can’t place the voice for a moment even though it sounds familiar.
“Not my girlfriend.” That’s Tenma. Who are they talking about?
“Well, if you keep having a girl over make sure she has a place to sleep that is not the living room. I need my space in the morning.”
“Sure, sure.” Tenma sounds like he’s not taking this seriously.
You blink and wipe the drool from your face.
“Morning sleeping beauty,” Tenma’s face is so close now you can smell the toothpastey-freshness of his breath.
“What day is it?” You ask, feel your jaw crack as you yawn.
“Sunday,” he pulls you up with ease, “Let’s put some of my spare clothes on you before we meet up with our parents. Or did you bring something?”
You rub your eyes as you lean on him. He might have stopped playing Volleyball, but he hasn’t lost his muscles.
The memories are slowly coming back to you. Going through his newest idea, a Manga this time. Reminiscing over old footage from his Karasuno days. Sharing one, two, maybe three beers as you giggle and swat away his hands on the Couch.
You can only hope you didn’t say or do anything embarrassing last night.
But this is Tenma. He’d let you know right away if you had.
.
It gets easier to live with your crush.
Tenma never mentions any girl he’s seeing or points out who he thinks is cute.
He’s pretty good at keeping in contact even when he’s so lost in his creative mind that he forgets to eat.
And while your work is equally demanding, the hours there are more regular.
It’s not uncommon to find you in his kitchen after work, growing from putting ready-to-eat food onto plates to actually preparing home-cooked meals. They’re not awful and you think that’s the highest praise you can get.
Sometimes, when it’s so late you can forget about catching a train back home and Tenma’s so tired he sounds like he’s speaking a foreign language, you end up sleeping in the same bed.
If you drag your fingertips through his hair then, hear him mumbling softly under his breath as you fall asleep, that’s your secret to keep.
.
- 22 -
Tenma’s a full-fledged Manga Artist now.
You got your own promotion just a short month later and as he raises another glass on your good work, the question tumbles out of you before you can stop yourself.
“Do you want to move in together?”
His grip is suddenly too tight around his glass. You can tell because you’ve grown a bit too observant lately, always way too laser-focused on where he is and what he’s doing and how he’s smelling like, freshly-showered or cozily slept-in.
“You can say if it’s a stupid idea,” you ramble on, “I mean, I’m over at your place all the time anyway to make sure you’re eating enough. It would be weird though if one of us brought home a date, but like-”
“Sure,” Tenma clears his throat, “we could move in together.”
He deflects all further questions though, whether it should be closer to his work or closer to yours, how many rooms you’ll need, and if you’ll be able to get a cat, instead filling up your glass again and again.
Eventually, you walk home arm in arm, each of you trying to support the other.
It’s a hopeless case but that doesn’t mean you’ll stop trying.
.
“This was fun,” you say at the train station, debating if you’ll take the train home or find some excuse to stay at his place.
You turn your head, surprised to find him this close. His eyes are wide open, dark and beautiful. He’s always had the prettiest eyes.
You’re still debating their color - more of a dark brown or maybe black - when he leans further in.
You half expect him to headbutt you when instead, his lips touch yours.
The kiss is so soft, you think you’re imagining it, along with the sigh that follows it.
But you’ve always been a realist, digging your fingernails into the skin of your arm to prove yourself you’re not dreaming. It hurts.
“Tenma?” You ask, breathless and floating, “Did you mean to do that?”
His face turns pale, eyes wide like those times you’ve pushed him into a cold shower to sober him up.
“SHIT!” He pulls away so quickly that you stumble, lose your balance and fall flat onto your ass.
“Shit, shit, shit!” Tenma’s rubbing his face with his hands, up and down, up and down, and you’re left sitting there, backbone hurting, the world spinning in the wrong direction.
“Okay, shit, this…” He’s folding himself into a tiny version of himself, just across from you on the cold sidewalk, “I didn’t meant to do this, okay? I know you think of me as your brother, so we can just pretend this never happened, okay? I’m drunk. You’re drunk. We’re going to have forgotten about this tomorrow-”
“Tenma?” You interrupt him, your voice weirdly cloud-like. “Are you in love with me?”
He deflates like a balloon, there’s even a little whistling sound coming out of his mouth when he further shrinks into himself.
“Maybe?” He squeaks out. “It doesn’t have to mean anything, though-”
“I love you too.”
There. You’ve said it. You can’t take it back. Maybe you’ve misunderstood a lot of things tonight, you’ll for sure be able to blame the alcohol for it, but you don’t kiss people you don’t like, right? Especially not if you waited twenty-two years for that.
Wait, did Tenma even wait that long? Is this even his first kiss like it’s yours?
“Why didn’t you say something?”
You blink, shaken out of your musings by the petulance in his voice.
“You didn’t ask.”
.
- 24 -
You’re not sure what wakes you, but his side of the bed is empty and cold.
You push yourself up with a groan, hiss when your feet touch the freezing ground.
You don’t have to look long to find him, hair disheveled, eyes foggy.
“Hey,” you wrap your arms around his shoulders and rest your chin on top of his head, “I miss you.”
“Sorry,” he yawns, “I’ll be in bed in a minute.”
“You said that four hours ago,” you remind him, leaning further into him, “can you still see what you’re drawing?”
“If I lose this idea-” he starts before a loud, jaw-cracking yawn cuts through his sentence.
You unwrap yourself to dig your thumbs into his shoulders, press a well-aimed kiss underneath his left ear.
“Come to bed,” you're not surprised when he follows you without another argument.
Last week one of your coworkers mentioned off-handedly that your boyfriend looks like a delinquent, all long hair and dark shadows, the hint of a stubble and a shirt he forgot to iron.
You weren’t meant to hear it, you’re sure, but you don’t care anyway.
He curls around you now, long limbs and warm hands, head resting heavy on your chest.
You drag your fingers through his hair, up and down and up and down, tell him about all the plans you have until you fall asleep along-side him.
-
“Look at you,” Saeko pulls you into a hug, “You’re practically glowing.”
You snort. “Don’t tell that to my mom. She’s started asking about grandchildren.”
“Yours too?” Akiteru jokes, turning from you to Tenma. “Are your parents united on the grandchildren front or are they more like ours?”
“No, no,” Tenma shakes his head, “My mom is just as insistent that we get started. Our mom’s are best friends for a reason.”
“And they never tried to set you up?” Saeko waves at someone across the streat before dragging you onto the seat next to her, “I smell a story.”
“I’m not sure my mom really cared about it as long as we stayed friends,” you think back. “But there was that time when she asked me to stop taking baths with you.”
Tenma’s face turns pink.
“I remember that time well.” He laughs along with the others, but your hand finds his under the table, squeezes tight.
You like to think that he fell first but you fell harder, but he disagrees.
If anything, he likes to say, I love you most.
“I say,” Saeko interrupts your thoughts, slinging an arm around you, “we play it like your parents. We just have to have babies around the same time and the rest will be history.”
“Don’t get ideas,” Akiteru says but you know him, he’s just as helpless against Saeko’s charm as you are.
“Not the worst idea she’s had,” Tenma whispers into your ear.
.
- 26 -
“Morning Udai-San,” Akaashi greets you.
“I told you to call me by my first name,” you tell him, laughing when he blushes a soft pink. “How’s it going, anyway?”
“Good. We’re actually on schedule, but I don’t want to jinx it.”
“Hmm, I get it.” You resist the urge to tousle his hair. “Is Tenma in his office?”
“Yes, I was just going to get coffee. You want some as well?”
“No, but thanks for asking. What are you getting for Tenma?”
“Two shots of espresso and extra sugar.”
“Make it one shot and I’ll make sure you get a promotion,” you wink and he winks back, slipping out of the office.
.
“Baby?” You ask, slipping through the door.
Tenma’s leaning heavily onto his desk, one hand playing with his hair as he thinks.
“Hmm?” He sits up, opens his arms to welcome you. “Hey, what brings you here?”
“I left Naoki with Saeko and Mi, they were playing so nicely.”
He smiles as you plant yourself on his lap, sink into him like you’re not much bigger than your toddler and not the grown woman you are.
“You good?” Tenma asks, rubbing a hand over your back. “You seem in your head today.”
“Yeah, I am, I just…” You sigh and turn your head to kiss his cheek. “I’m glad you stayed my friend.”
“Where’s that coming from?”
“I was thinking about how I don’t have that much patience. I don’t know if I’d kept crushing on you for as long as you kept crushing on me. What if you’d have given up? We wouldn’t have gotten together.”
He hooks his head over yours, wraps his arms a little more snuggly around you.
“Listen, I didn’t stay your friend because I was hoping you’d one day see me as more. I stayed your friend because I’d rather have you as my friend than nothing at all. After all you’re the best friend I ever had.”
“Even though I made you play my husband, my dog and my dragon?”
“Especially because of that.”
.
“Did you have fun playing with Mi?” Tenma asks your thirteen-month-old.
The bathroom door is open and you can hear them splash around in the bathtub.
“Mi,” Naoki repeats with excitement.
“Yep, Mi. Now, can you say Dada too?”
“Mama.”
Tenma laughs, easy and carefree and you leave the dishes in the sink in favor of joining him.
After all, the dishes won’t run away, but those little moments with your family might.

Pt.1 Pt. 2 Pt. 3
******
This is it. We're going to fly.
I look out of the small airplane window beside me. We're so high up.
The sky is bright blue with minimal clouds. That helps relieve some of my anxiety. At least we don't have to worry about a tropical storm or something.
We're still so high up though. If someone were to fall off the plane, even when it was touching the ground, it definitely wouldn't be pretty.
In a few minutes we're going to be thousands of feet in the air. That's terrifying.
" You alright? " Eddie's voice breaks through my thoughts. He glances up at me from a random rock magazine in his hands.
I nod stiffly, pulling my gaze from the window. I take a small breath to help myself calm down. " Yeah, I've just never been on a plane before. I guess I'm a little nervous. " I admit while beginning to play with my fingers. " Flying over the ocean is freaking me out a bit. "
Eddie sets his magazine on his lap and turns his full attention to me. " It's going to be alright. I've done this a million times. Nothing's happened then and nothing will happen now. Just try to distract yourself. " He reassures me. " Here. " He pulls out another magazine, this one also about metal music news. " It's band stuff so I hope you don't mind, but it might help to take your mind off of everything. Plus there's a pretty fire crossword puzzle in the back. " He says with a grin, trying to help me feel better.
I smile at him. " Thanks, Ed. "
Eddie's grin widens at the use of his nickname. " Why of course, m' lady. " He exaggerates a playful bow in his seat.
I roll my eyes. " You're a clown. "
" Actually, I prefer the term Jester. " Eddie laughs at my reaction. He glances to the chair next to him where Rose is curled up against the arm rest. The look of pure adoration in Eddie's eyes sends a flutter of happiness through my body.
He loves her so much. He's matured a lot since High school. I never would've pictured him to be this responsible. It's amazing what having a child can do to a person. He just wants the best for her.
" She's a great kid. " I compliment.
Eddie nods in agreement. " I'm very lucky. She's put up with a lot, especially with the tour and everything. "
I wonder where her mom is? I haven't heard Eddie mention anything about her and Rose never calls her.
" If you don't mind me asking, " I begin cautiously. " where's her mother? "
6 months seems very long for a kid to be apart from their parent, especially when they're as young as Rose.
A flicker of anger crosses Eddie's expression.
Worried I offended him, I try to fix it. " You don't have to tell me. Sorry, that was very personal, I shouldn't have asked. "
Eddie shakes his head. He gently pulls the blanket around Rose's small shoulder. " No, you didn't do anything wrong. " He sighs. " It's...it's a long story. "
Overhead the pilot announces that we will be taking off. My hands clamp onto my arm rests as we suddenly begin to move. I refuse to look out of the windows, focusing my attention on our conversation. " Well, lucky for you, I don't think I'll be going anywhere anytime soon. " I nod towards the window. Out of the corner of my eye I can see the ground rush by. We're going to fucking fast.
When we pick up from the ground my stomach drops. A weird unsettled feeling courses through my body. I try to ignore it.
It's okay. It's just a plane.
Yeah a plane thousands of feet in the fucking air.
Eddie seems to pick up on my distress. He leans forward in his seat, as well as forward as the seat belt will allow him to go, and he pats my knee. " It's gonna be alright, Y/N. " He glances over at Rose who's still sleeping and very much unbothered by what's going on around her. " Her mom is a model I met at a party a few years ago. We dated for a bit and then we found out she was pregnant. " Eddie sighs. " She wasn't that interested in being a mom, her career was just taking off. We tried to stay together at least until Rose was born but she wasn't happy. We decided it was best if we broke up. She isn't around much. She's still out there 'finding' herself. She's supposed to come see one of the shows when we get back into the States. She wants to see Rose. We'll see how that goes. She doesn't even bother with child support so I wouldn't be surprised if it's too difficult for her to make it out to see Rose. " He doesn't sound like he carries much belief in the woman.
" I'm so sorry. " I send him a sympathetic look. " That's very rough. "
Eddie shakes his head. " It's alright. I've got Rose and Rose's got me. She doesn't need anyone else. " He tenderly brushes a strand of hair out of the young girl's eyes. " Besides, now she's got an awesome nanny who will be there for here when I can't. " He sends me a smile.
" Of course. "
I've only been around the little girl for a little while but I'm starting to grow more and more protective over her.
Eddie and I continue to talk and eventually, my fears of flying begin to subside and I can finally relax.
It's nice catching up with Eddie. It's been so long since we've seen each other. I forgot how easy he is to be around. In many ways he's changed but in so many others he's exactly the same. He's kind and funny. He cares about what I have to say.
Things my ex struggled with at times.
I don't even realize when I begin to fall asleep. The peaceful atmosphere along with Eddie's soft voice lull me into a hazy state.
" Y/N? " Eddie's voice feels distant and quiet.
I don't respond, my lips feeling too heavy to move. I manage to muster up enough strength to crack my eyes open just enough to see through my lashes.
" Can I get a blanket please? " Eddie asks a nearby flight attendant. She quickly returns with a blanket which he opens up.
I hear the faint click of his seat belt as he takes it off. He shuffles around for a moment before leaning towards me.
My eyes, too heavy for me to keep open, close completely. I feel Eddie's gentle hands tuck the soft blanket around my shoulders. His touch is light as if he's scared of waking me up.
" Sleep well, Y/N. I'm so glad I ran into you. " His voice is so quiet I almost miss his words.
Too exhausted to think over his words, I let my mind slip into darkness, the feeling of safety and comfort completely surrounding me.
I missed Eddie.
*****
" How the fuck did they find out we were going to be here? " Eddie's slightly panicked voice.
My eyes widen at the sight in front of us. Dozens-no hundreds- of people are gathered around the entrance of the hotel we're supposed to be staying. Some are carrying large cameras with blinding flashes that go off as they snap pictures of the car. Others are loudly screaming and carrying signs. Everyone is loud and their eyes are desperate for a chance to see or be noticed by one of the boys.
" Someone must've leaked where you're staying. " Eddie's body guard, Tony, sighs. " Don't worry Ed, we'll get you guys in there safely. " He leans over to say something to the driver.
Eddie turns to me. " I forgot to pack sun glasses for you guys so this is what we're going to do. I'm going to get out and cover you two with my jacket. Keep her face hidden. Try not to look into the flash, that shit can blind you. " He pulls a pair of sunglasses out of his backpack and slips them on. " Trust me, it's not fun stumbling around while not being able to see. Don't worry about the bags. I'll send someone back to grab everything. "
I take Rose out of her car seat and pull her hood up. Eddie waits for me to get ready before he finally opens the door.
Noise floods into the car and the light is so much brighter than what the tinted windows let through.
I'm terrified. The crowd looks uncontrollable and hungry for the attention of Eddie.
The hotel's security struggles to keep a clear path for us to walk through. They firmly tell the crowd to back up but their voices only end up blending with the chaos of the screaming fans and inquisitive paparazzi's.
Eddie keeps true to his word. As soon as he's out of the car he turns his back to the crowd and holds his jacket out.
I hurry towards him, terrified of being in this mess longer than we have to be.
One of Eddie's arms snakes around my shoulders to block out the flashing lights. I tuck into his side, pulling Rose closer.
I keep my head down to watch my feet and keep an eye on Rose who's now restlessly twisting in my arms. The noise and lights are too overwhelming for her, she looks like she's about to burst into tears.
" Daddy! " She squeaks while trying to reach for the man. I struggle to keep a good grasp on her.
" It's okay, Rosie. It's okay. " His voice is calm, but I can tell he's nervous. His body is tense against mine and he's basically holding onto my shoulder for his life.
" Eddie! Who's with you right now? It this a new partner? " Someone shouts from around us.
" Is Rose there? How old is she now? "
" What do you have to say about the band that allegedly copied one of your songs? "
" Show us who you're with! "
Questions dart through the air causing an overwhelming feeling to flood me. There's so much going on.
" Back up! Back up! " Tony demands ahead of us.
" Please give us some space. We're just trying to get into the hotel. " Eddie's voice is forcibly polite.
It'll be over soon. We're almost there, right?
Damn it this walk feels like it's taken an eternity. The entrance really didn't seem this far away from the car.
Out of the corner of my eye I spot of hand reach under the jacket. It roughly yanks me back, causing me to slam further into Eddie. I let out a small gasp in surprise, my eyes widening.
Eddie firmly holds me down so I don't fall backwards, both of his arms grabbing onto me. " What the fuck! " He exclaims, pulling me further towards him and away from the person who grabbed me.
The jacket slips down slightly and I'm able to peek out over the top.
Rose is now full on sobbing, terrified of the sudden rough movements. Her small hands cling onto my shirt, looking for any form of comfort. The top of her head slightly peers out from between Eddie and I revealing one of her tear filled eyes.
I pull one of my hands over her face, trying to bounce her slightly.
I don't know what the fuck to do? How am I supposed to comfort a child when I don't even feel safe myself.
Eddie's livid. He sends a rough look towards the paparazzi who yanked me. " What the fuck is your problem? Don't touch them! Back the fuck off, you entitled piece of shit. We're fucking people! My daughter's right here! You could've hurt them both. " His grip around me is tight and protective.
The man's eyes widen in surprise. He's momentarily paused from taking pictures. " Hey man, I didn't mean anything buy it. I was just trying to get your attention. "
" Well you fucking got it. " Eddie snaps.
I haven't seen him this mad since failed Mr. Ryan's chem class for the 3rd time.
" Eddie please, let's get inside. " I beg the man.
Eddie's eyes shift towards us. His anger seems to morph into slight concern at the sight of our state. " Yeah, I'm sorry. Let's go. "
He sends one last nasty look towards the man who pulled me before we continue towards the hotel.
Eddie was right. These lights are blinding. If Eddie wasn't holding my shoulder's I'd definitely fall.
We finally make inside and I let out a breath of relief.
The doors close behind us and immediately security guards stand in front of them to block the entry of the nosy mob.
Eddie lets go of me and immediately reaches for his daughter. He shields her from the windows by blocking everyone's view with his back. " Oh, baby. " He mumbles with guilt. " I'm so sorry. Daddy's sorry. " He gently rubs circles into her small shaking back.
We make our way further in to the hotel and finally out of the view of the mob outside.
The crying seems to have worn out Rose because by the time we reach the front desk she's passed out. Not that I blame her, the whole day's been exhausting.
We collect our keys from the front desk before beginning our journey to find our rooms.
" This was a mistake. I shouldn't have brought her here. What if she's like traumatized now? She's too young for all this crap. " Eddie mumbles in concern.
" Hey, she's going to be alright. " I try to reassure him. " She's a strong little kid, she'll be okay. Don't beat yourself up too much about it. "
Eddie doesn't look like he believes me. Instead of voicing his concerns further, he chooses to nod and remain silent.
We finally come across the massive suite we're staying in. As soon as we enter we're greeted by a large common area with a beautiful gift basket full of treats. To the side is a small kitchen and bathroom.
Eddie disappears into one of the other rooms, one I'm assuming is a bedroom.
I make my way into the other room and a rush of exhaustion hits my body. I didn't realize how exhausted I was until I saw the bed.
I abandon my backpack near the door and flop onto the bed. A small sigh escapes my lips as I close my eyes to block out the bright lights.
This is going to be harder then I thought.

Staring at the keyboard, you’re unsure what to type back to your best friend. You haven’t told Shoko about your incident at work yesterday. She’s always been protective of you; you and Shoko have been friends since you were in diapers. She’s practically family to you. She would probably freak out hearing how that asshole on the drums was treating you. But it’s not even the jock you’re worried about. Shoko can always see right through you… so what would she say if you told her that you were restless about running into Satoru Gojo by the water fountain?
The thought of seeing him again creates a tightness in your chest you’re not used to, and you feel featherbrained when he’s nearby. Frankly, a feeling that scares you. A feeling you would rather avoid because you simply don’t have time for it. With your mom being in the early stages of dementia, you finishing your psychology degree and working a part time job, you feel as though you already have so much you need to juggle in life. “Finally!! Took you long enough to get here! Thought I was gonna have to eat without you,” you hear Shoko call for you sarcastically and glance over at a table in the corner of the taco shop. There you see your friend, smiling in her seat as she waves you down. Two plates of food directly in front of her.
“I told you I was at the library! That’s literally the opposite side of campus, Sho!” Rolling your eyes playfully, you take a seat in the chair across from her, letting your bag slide off your back and fall to the ground beside you.
“I know, what gives? I thought you couldn’t stand the silence there.” She perks her eyebrow upwards at you.
You immediately regret bringing it up. Nonchalantly, you shrug your shoulders in hopes she won’t pry more. “I guess I just figured I’d change it up.”
“Oh?” Shoko places her elbow on the table and rests her chin in the palm of her hand. “You’re not usually one for change. You literally order the exact same thing every time we come here.” She grins as she shoves a plate of food directly in front of you. You look down at it to see three carne asada tacos, your typical order.
“Man, I really am predictable huh?” You laugh as you grab the plate in front of you and pick up a taco. “Thanks, Sho, I’ll send you some money.”
“Don’t you dare!” She furrows her brow while maintaining her grin. “My treat today! I know you’ve been working hard.” Her eyes soften as she begins to pick up her food, before she takes a bite she asks, “How’s your mom doing?”
You shrug as you chew, “Oh you know, she has her good days and bad days.” Shoko nods as she watches you intently.
You both love and hate how good she is at reading you. Sometimes you wonder, maybe she should be the one studying psychology. You let out a sigh, giving into her gaze. “Last night when I got home from work, she kept calling for my dad. Every time I tell her he’s gone it’s like she’s going through the grief all over again.  She wouldn’t believe me until my aunt got involved.”
Shoko gives you a concerned look, “Oh, y/n. That must have been tough. Let me know if there’s anything you need. I’m so glad your aunt bought the house next door to you. Her being around to step in must be a huge help.”
“Yeah…it’s helped a lot. Just knowing someone is close by to her while I’m at class and work is reassuring. It’s helped me focus on my studies more.” You half-heartedly smile at Shoko.
Shoko groans, “You work too hard y/n. But I’ve been thinking~ since you’re in dire need of a break, how about we decompress tonight?”
You raise your eyebrow at your friend as you grab another taco, “Decompress?”
She grins at you mischievously. Oh boy…what is she planning?
Shoko reaches into her bag and pulls out a piece of paper. The wooden table shakes as she slams in down in front of you and her grin widens. You look down and observe what appears to be a flyer. In bold lettering you read ‘The Blue Note Club. Live Music this Friday. Featuring bands Beyond Tempo, Shades of Infinity and Forgotten Flash. 5-dollar admission, music starts at 7pm.’
“I’ve seen this flyer posted all around campus. Everyone’s been talking about it. Let’s have a girl’s night out! It’s tonight! I know how much you love live music!” Shoko’s eyes are glistening with excitement, her grin ear to ear.
You return a nervous smile back. You do love live music, but you don’t do clubs. You’re not much of a party girl. It’s never really been your forte. Then again… you never really had the opportunity to let it be, given how you’re always taking care of your mom. Your mom started showing signs of dementia since you were ten after all. And with your dad out of the picture, it forced you to grow up real quick. “Oh, I don’t know, Sho…”
“Come onnnnn y/n!” Her fingers interlock together towards you as she pleads childishly. There is a glimmer in her eye that tugs at your heart.
“I really should be studying tonight… I have a huge project coming up.” You say, but as usual, Shoko reads you like a book. She knows it’s an excuse.
“So, study tomorrow! I know you have the day off work!” Her arm nudges you softly and there is that grin again. She was not giving up.
Hmm, well maybe if you’re just honest…she’ll let you off the hook? “Sho, you know this is not really my crowd… a club? It’s not something I usually do.”
“True – but I thought you said you felt like changing it up today? Miss, study at the library.” she beams. “So, let’s change things up! You need a night out to decompress y/n. You’ve been shouldering so much lately! Let’s let loose!”

You’re quite familiar with being seen as the casual friend accompanying the bombshell babe – but now you are playing the role of the bombshell babe.
Shoko and you approach the entryway – the sensation of the tremoring music bleeds outside the booming building. “Ladies.” A bouncer stands directly beside the door to greet you, flickering an arrogant smirk with a gentle nod of his head. His dyed blonde hair is accented with dark green roots, and you notice three piercings in his left ear.  You read his nametag, Naoya Zenin. His sharp brown eyes lock onto you as you politely smile back at him – for a moment he seems completely enchanted, captured in your beauty. Shoko peers over to you from the side and grins slyly.
“Two entries please!” Shoko says, making Naoya’s gaze snap away from you momentarily like a rubber band.
“Right,” he clears his throat and his form tenses as he straightens his posture. “Five dollars each, and I’ll need to see your ID’s.”
When you hand him your ID with your cash, you feel his fingertips brush gently across yours, lingering a little longer than usual. He checks your IDs under the fraud light and then returns them to you. You feel the cool ink of the round red stamp as he presses it firmly against the back of your wrist – proof of your admission. “Have fun.”
As you enter the building, the blast of music bellows in your face, a feeling you’ve become all too familiar with from your part time job. For a moment you are exhilarated, the sound of live music always makes you feel alive and you genuinely love the vibrations as they resonate throughout your body, giving you a sense of instant relief. But that moment ends as soon as it begins – your shoulders stiffen and your eyes widen as you observe that you are not in your element.  Looking around you see people dancing, some innocently, others lustfully grinding on top of each other. The smell of alcohol and marijuana sting your nostrils, and you glimpse at people making out in the corners of the room non discreetly. Your body tumbles forward as Shoko grabs your arm and leads you towards the direction of the bar.
“I can tell you’re nervous. Don’t overthink it, we’re here to have fun!” She smiles back warmly at you. “You’re already catching eyes – that bouncer couldn’t keep his off you,” her elbow nudges you as you take a seat in the leather barstool beside her.
A defeated sigh slips through your lips. “I don’t even know where to start. Maybe I’m just not cut out for this.”
“We just got here, don’t give up yet! This is where we start – you just need a little liquid courage,” her lips curl up into a grin as she waves down the bartender.
Shoko orders you a shot of whiskey to kick off the night. You clink your shot glass against hers and tilt your head back – the sharp harsh liquor burns as it slides down your throat. You immediately feel its effects kick in, slightly taking off the edge of your nerves.
You and Shoko enjoy another round, and you loosen up even more. As you begin to work on your third drink, you see Shoko’s eyes suddenly expand and a wide grin stretches even farther across her face. As Shoko’s best friend, you know that look all too well. She was smitten, intently focused on someone behind you. Curious, you shift your gaze over your shoulder and catch sight of a man with long raven hair, rich as ripe wheat hung in loose, tousled waves to his shoulders. Half of his hair was tamed back into a bun, with a tousle falling loose fluttering against his lashes. He has round gauges on both earlobes – sleeves of tattoos cover his built arms. It’s no wonder she is captivated. He was beautiful.
He’s sharing a drink with a blonde-haired boy – another striking and beautiful man. The blonde’s face is sharp and defined, his hair short and aptly combed. His expression slightly unamused from whatever the black-haired boy is laughing about to him. He’s wearing a deep blue button up shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. A loose tie hangs around the collar of his shirt.
You direct your gaze back at Shoko. “Someone catch your eye?” As the words come out, you are unable to hold back a smile to your friend.

You really didn’t give this much thought, but before you know it, you’re heading in the direction of the two men. Maybe it’s the warmth you feel rising throughout your body that grants you this assertiveness. The moment you lift yourself from the seat of the bar and trek towards them, your body sways like you’re on a boat – unable to control the trajectory of your speed, you bump through the figures of mingling people. Your eyes are focused on the black-haired man as you pull Shoko by the hand and lead her directly towards him. Remnants of her voice echo behind you – feeling the weight of her feet trudge after you, she tries to resist your pull, and you’re unable to fully make out what she’s saying. Her voice being wrapped through the sounds of the club don’t help your current inability to focus on anything else other than this hasty decision you suddenly set out to achieve.
Holding Shoko’s hand, you halt in front of the two men. “Hey boys! Here to see a band in particular?”
The boys look at each other momentarily before turning their heads towards you, a brief smile on their faces. “You could say something like that. How about you?” The blonde replies.
You don’t even have the chance to answer his question – simply because your body sways at the sound of a familiar voice. Were you imagining it? White snowy hair glistens from the luminous lights of the club as he saunters towards the group. “Suguru, Kento – Beyond Tempo is finishing up their set. It’s time for us to start getting ready for sound check.”
Your heart skips a beat as reality sets up. The Satoru Gojo was here. And damnit was he beautiful. The black V-neck tee perfecting hugging his muscles, his iconic round sunglasses hanging from the center of the slit. His black ripped jeans giving him an alternative look, and his flawless silky hair loosely set around the structure of his dimpled smile – deep sapphire eyes luring you in like a siren would a sailor. His eyes drift to you as he approaches, uniting with yours momentarily until you quickly break the gaze as you look away, swallowing hard with anticipation. Fuck, you needed another drink.
“No way, y/n?” He says with a cheeky smile. “I was wondering where you went off too, especially after I didn’t see you by the water fountain today. Guess I should cancel that missing person report.”
Shoko’s devious grin plasters her face as she stumbles forward and locks her arm in yours, her weight leaning against you and her cheeks tinted red from the intoxicant. “Oh? You two know each other? Aren’t you going to introduce me y/n?”
Great. Now you really needed another drink. You take a quick moment to embrace the warmth of the alcohol as it envelopes your body, giving into its effects. Liquid courage, don’t fail me now. “Ha-ha, very funny,” you roll your eyes at Satoru. “Gojo, this is my best friend Shoko Ieiri. Sho, this is Satoru Gojo. He shops at the music shop that I work at.”
The dark-haired man approaches Satoru and playfully taps his back. “So, you finally checked that shop out. Told you they have better deals.” Turning towards you and Shoko he smiles. “I’m Suguru Geto, and this is Kento Nanami. We’re all in the next band up, Shades of Infinity.”
“Oh wow! That’s awesome. Can’t wait to hear you guys play.” Shoko glees at Suguru.
You can see from the corner of your eye that Satoru’s focus doesn’t waver from you during this entire exchange – his gaze burns you more than the liquor inside you. You hear the band Beyond Tempo wrapping up. The lead front man speaking into the mic, thanking the audience for their time. People applauding in the background. You can barely concentrate, partly from the liquor, but also from the intense effect of Satoru’s gaze – provoking your pulse to resonate throughout your entire being.
“That’s our queue. We gotta set up,” Kento turns towards the stage. “Nice meeting you ladies.” He waves and ushers towards the platform with Suguru.
Satoru stays behind momentarily. “Hope you’ll cheer me on. Gotta break in these new drumsticks,” he lifts them from his back pocket, waving them playfully in front of you while granting an affectionate wink. He begins to follow his bandmates, but then shifts back slightly stopping in his tracks. “Let’s meet up after the show–” He waves, not giving you a moment to reply as he quickly sets out to the stage – the image of his broad shoulders shifting through the crowd.
You release a breath you didn’t’ realize you were holding, and Shoko’s arm tightens around yours. “Okay, who was that?”  She never fails to see right through you.
“I’d like another drink.”

After you and Shoko order another round, you tell her everything that happened yesterday involving Satoru Gojo. You’re unable to stop the words from sliding out your mouth, they slip out like glassy ice unable for you to grasp. Each declaration uncovering a part of you that you have always chose to ignore – the vulnerable side of you. Because the truth is you’re infatuated with Satoru Gojo. The mere image of him enraptures you and ignites a sensual curiosity – but it goes against everything you believe. After all, being vulnerable only leads to getting hurt. That’s what you’ve observed with your mother.
Shoko grins at you, “So he’s the reason you weren’t at the water fountain today, hmm?”
Glancing over at the stage, you watch Satoru’s focused expression while he sets up his ear piece for sound check. Biting your lip, you groan and turn towards Shoko, “I mean, can you blame me? Just look at him.”
“Oh, believe me, I saw the way he was looking at you.”
“Enough about me, what about you and Geto?”
“Oh. I want to fuck him,” she smirks and speaks blankly.
“Gross Sho,” you roll your eyes laughing.
“What? It’s a natural desire. Sounds like you want to fuck Gojo. Why not let him take your v-card?”
Don’t get Sho wrong, you definitely want to experience things with Satoru Gojo. And although you haven’t had sex, you’re not unfamiliar with the feeling of lust. Growing up, you are Sho would often stay up all night, talking about celebrity crushes, your ideal types, and your inherent deal breakers. You’ve explored the “ins and outs” of your body as well, discovering what pleasures you in more ways than one, and although you’ve had many opportunities to, you would never cross the line of letting someone else explore it – specifically in fear of not being able to separate lust from potential love.
“Not happening,” you allege. “But I’ll happily be your wing woman for Geto.”
Shoko’s eyes glint in excitement. She looks towards the stage and observes Suguru as he sifts through wires – his violet fender Stratocaster hanging across his shoulders. “Really? God, he’s so hot.”
You chuckle at Shoko and raise your drink to your lips. The alcohol was enveloping you in a gentle sway, but it breaks momentarily as you spring from the sound of Suguru’s voice echoing through the speakers as he speaks directly into the microphone.
“Test, test. One. Two. Three.”
People in the bar begin to shift their attention towards the performers on stage. You watch as a crowd begins to huddle around the half-moon platform. You feel Shoko’s hand grasp yours and suddenly you’re being pulled out of your seat, escorted in the direction of the pit. Your eyes flick through the crowd and are drawn towards that familiar ivory head as he sits behind the drums, foot tapping the kick of his bass drum and fingers delicately twirling the pristine new drumstick he purchased. You watch his fingers spin the drumstick effortlessly, and you can’t help but imagine how skilled those fingers are in other ways.
“Thank you everyone for coming out today. We’re Shades of Infinity.”
Suguru’s hand brushes against the strings of his guitar, Kento joining in plucking at his bass while Satoru strikes his drum with intricate and encapsulating rhythmic beats. And suddenly, you are enthralled in the vibrations of the melody that raptures your core. You find your body unknowingly moving to each pulsation, and Shoko joins you. Gently closing your eyes as you move, Suguru’s soft voice cascading through the speakers like a smooth red wine. Upon opening your eyes, you see Satoru watching you – a smug smile enfolding his lips.
Time passes effortlessly – before you know it, Suguru is announcing the final song.  The crowd is going wild for them – the atmosphere in the club seems to have changed since they went on stage. It seems everyone is much more invigorated from their performance compared to the last band playing. You’re having so much fun now, it’s hard to imagine how apprehensive you were at the beginning of the night. You and Shoko dance with enthusiasm, a slight stream of sweat on your brows as you give your bodies to the cadence. And suddenly, the set it over and the boys are packing up. You glance over at Shoko, sharing an exhilarated smile with her.
“Let’s cool off and get another drink.” Sho says breathily.
You make your way back over to the bar, taking a seat to catch your breath. As you begin to sip your drink, you notice a familiar face approaching you. The bouncer – Naoya Zenin.
“Hey! That was some great dancing out there.” He speaks with a conceited smile to you.
“Oh, thanks!” You politely respond. Shoko peers over at you with a knowing smirk.
“My shift is over – but you know I haven’t seen you around here before? This your first time here?”
“Oh…yeah. I’m not much of a club girl myself. This is my first time coming here.”
“Wow, really? Well, I figured I hadn’t seen you before because there is no way I would forget someone as stunning as yourself. What brings you here?”
Before you can respond a familiar voice cuts the air. “Ohhh~ you could say she came to cheer me, her boyfriend on during his performance.” Suddenly, Gojo’s arm springs around Naoya’s shoulder as he leans his weight against him and blinks those sapphire iris’ directly into his core – Satoru’s head is tilted with a smirk curled around those cocky lips. His tone is lively, but with that recognizably slight undertone that is without doubt, telling Naoya to fuck off.
Shoko nearly spits her drink out and you can’t stop your own dumbfounded smile from his initiative, unable to comprehend if maybe you’ve just had too much to drink – did he really make that declaration, again.
“Oh…I didn’t realize you were taken. Excuse me.” Naoya awkwardly releases himself from Satoru’s grasp, patently annoyed, and immediately clears off. Satoru proudly shoves his hands in his pockets and gives you that familiar smug grin.
“You know, it’s quite rude to give him the wrong idea,” you respond sharply, the alcohol making it impossible to hold your tongue.
“Is it? You didn’t say the same thing yesterday in your shop.”
“That was different. What If I wanted to talk to him?” You didn’t. But it wouldn’t hurt throwing the idea out there. After all, you were infatuated with Satoru Gojo, and rather than admitting that it’s easier to push him away.
Satoru raises a brow slightly, humming at you with a shit eating grin that makes you question if you want to slap him or kiss him, “If that’s the case, why didn’t you stop him?” Okay, actually you want to slap him for seeing right through you.
Unwilling to respond, you decide to deflect by asking him, “Well, why did you tell him we’re dating?”
Shoko attempts to hide her smile behind the glass of her drink – taking a sip while her eyes flash between you and Gojo, clearly enjoying your amusing banter.
He shrugs, “for fun? Nothing wrong with a little theatrics. Besides, you’re the one who doesn’t pay attention to your surroundings. Figure I’d save you the headache. That guy’s a sleaze – every time I come here he’s picking up a different girl.”
“Well, I think I can judge what kind of person he is for myself. Also, I don’t need your protection,” you scoff. “Besides, I get the feeling you’re not much different than him considering how full of yourself you are.”
He leans himself against the bar, setting his elbow on the counter and resting his cheek in the curve of his palm. “Ouch – insult me more, it’s hot. Didn’t expect there to be a feisty side to you.” His smug grin doesn’t falter, managing to make you feel irritated yet also aroused.
“Jesus, Gojo. There are plenty of sides of me you don’t know. Not like we’re actually dating – I wouldn’t even consider us friends.”
“Yeah, well personally I’d like to learn about more sides of you. Actually, I would love for you to come to our afterparty tonight.” He reaches his other hand into his pocket and grabs a folded piece of paper – he slides his slender fingertips across the marble bar counter, lifting them gently to expose the parchment directly in front of you. “We’re heading over there now. Here’s the address.”
Suguru’s graveled voice cuts through the loud atmosphere of the club. “Satoru – quit goofing off and help us pack the car. Let’s get out of here.”
“Right.” Satoru taps his hand on the bar counter as if to say he’d better do as Suguru says or he’s in for it. “Gotta get to it. Hope to see you ladies there,” he lifts himself from his relaxed position and veers back to the platform.
Pinching the bridge of your nose, you feel Shoko’s self-satisfied grin bearing into you. “I already know what you’re going to say,” you exhale.
“Oh, we’re going.”

Before leaving for his tour, Marshall had apologized to you about three hundred times. You had just gotten engaged and he had to leave you to plan the wedding on your own, while he was touring Europe for a month and a half. The two of you didn’t want to wait to get married and agreed to do it as soon as he came back. The day before he left for his tour, the two of you almost went to city hall to get married in a haste. You couldn’t wait to finally be married and officially be a family. In truth, neither of you really cared about having a lengthy ceremony, a reception or proper wedding attire. You just wanted to be married. But as you were ready to get in the car and get to city hall before closing time, you were met with doubts, especially Marshall.
Should we do it ?  Are you sure ? He asked.
I’m game if you are, you said with a smile. I can’t wait to be your wife.
I can’t wait to be your husband. Won’t you regret having a proper ceremony, though ? He asked.
I don’t care, you said. But if you’d rather wait, we can do it too…
I don’t want to wait, he said. But maybe… Maybe we can call my daughters ? They wouldn’t want to miss it.
Of course, you said. Maybe we could have one of them FaceTime my parents so that they don’t miss it either ?
Great. And we should celebrate a little, maybe go to dinner ? He suggested.
Should I dress up, then ? You asked. If we’re going out after, I should at least wear a nice dress.
I should at least put on a nice shirt, then, he agreed.
Ok, we get dressed, book dinner, call the girls and my parents and off we go, you said.
Should we call Paul, Denaun and Tracy ? He asked. They were here when we met, they’re our closest friends, they should be celebrating with us.
Ok, but then perhaps Royce too ? You asked. And do they bring their significant others ?
You stopped and stared at each other before bursting out in a fit of laughter. He kissed you lovingly.
Who are we kidding ? He chuckled.
Do you… Do we want an actual party ? You asked.
I think I do, he admitted. I love you, I can’t wait for you to be my wife, but I think I’d regret not celebrating properly. You deserve actual vows, a nice place to get married, a first dance… I want us to do this the right way. And I don’t think your mom would forgive us if she wasn’t there to attend, and possibly have a little figurine of herself on top of the cake.
You’re right, you giggled. But I don’t want to wait too long, though. Let’s do it when you get back, ok ?
Ok, he agreed. Right after I get back, I’m marrying the shit out of you and you’re mine forever.
I’m already yours forever, you said cheekily as you showed him your engagement ring.
It had been a couple of months since he got on one knee at dinner and proposed with the most beautiful ring you had ever seen. You should have gotten used to the rock sitting on your engagement finger by now, but you were still giddy every time you looked at it. Knowing that he took your daughter with him when he went to pick the ring also made it that much more meaningful. That very night, he also stated his intention of adopting Lily and caring for her. Ever since you’d met, he had always been incredible to her and, even though the adoption wasn’t official yet, he was very much a father figure to her. You knew leaving her for six weeks was just as hard for him as leaving you. By his own admission, he loved your little routine as a family and was going to miss it while on tour. Sadly, he was also going to miss her second birthday. Unfortunately, the tour had been planned before the two of you started dating, so there was no way he could have known. He was gutted, though, and he kept on apologizing to the both of you.
It’s fine, you said. We’ll celebrate with you when you get back.
It’s not the same, he shrugged. But I’d like that.
If anything, you’ll miss the party with all the kids from daycare, so you’re pretty lucky, you giggled. I sort of want to skip it…
Why did you plan it in the first place, then ? He mused.
Because apparently, it shows that your kid and family are socially adjusted, you explained. And if I- if we want her to get into the right preschool…
You’re still set on that fancy preschool, aren’t you ? He asked with a raised eyebrow.
You still think that’s stupid ? You asked.
I think preschool is preschool, he chuckled. My kids didn’t go to any fancy preschool or kindergarten. In fact, they went to all public schools and did great. But if you think it’s what’s best for Lily, sure.
Yeah but now that you’re adopting her, you should have a say- you began.
Doesn’t matter, he said. I’m not against it. In fact, if you want me to foot the bill, I will, happily. But, just in case she doesn’t get in : you should remember it’s preschool, not Harvard, and that her life won’t be ruined if she goes to a public preschool. I’m pretty sure they use the same crayons anyway.
True, you giggled. I know it’s stupid, you know ? But Lily is my first and only child. I only want the best. I know you have more experience with your girls. I should probably chill… You know better.
I don’t know if I know better, he chuckled. You’re the best Mom she would ask for. Plus, you know… When I had my daughters, I wasn’t in the same position as now. I wasn’t able to be as present, physically and mentally, too. But Lily… was Lily’s going to get the best version of me.
We’re pretty lucky to have you, you said lovingly.
I’m pretty lucky too, he said. I’m really going to miss you. I’m not even gone and I can’t wait to be back, already.
Hopefully, we don’t burn the house down with that wild Project X party for her birthday, you joked. Are you sure you’re ok with me hosting it here ?
You live here, now, don’t you ? He said with a smile. Besides, the house survived Nathan and the parties he threw when I was on tour and he lived here, so it should be fine with the kids from daycare.
You were still navigating your new life as Marshall’s fiancée. Before your engagement, you didn’t live together but after he asked for your hand, you ended up moving in with him in his house. You still weren’t too used to the place. Before, you spent most of your time in your house, since all of Lily’s stuff was there. But given his celebrity status, Marshall needed his security nearby and it made more sense for you to move into his house, which was in a gated community, than for him to move into yours. You liked the place and he had made the cutest bedroom and playroom for Lily, who absolutely loved it, but you had yet to claim the place as yours. Though now that you would be left here alone for six weeks, you’d have no choice.
On the morning he left for his tour, the goodbye was bittersweet. As a collaborator who worked for Shady Records and his biggest supporter, you were excited for him because you knew he loved performing, but as his fiancée, it was hard to let him go. He was standing by the door, bags in his hand, ready to cross the threshold. You were holding Lily, ready to say goodbye. Six weeks would be too long. He let go of his bags to hug you one last time.
I’m going to miss you, he said. I’ll FaceTime everyday, alright ? Or at least, as much as I can.
Sure, you said. Say bye to Dad, Lily ?
Bye, she said in her little voice.
Bye baby, he said softly. Take care of your Mom, alright ? And don’t become a giant while I’m gone.
He kissed her little head and she giggled. You tried to get her to say « Bye Dad » but referring to Marshall as her father wasn’t natural for her yet. He wasn’t bothered by it, though, and said that she’d use the word in due time.
Bye, my love, he said before kissing you tenderly. I love you.
I love you too, you said. Have a safe flight. And say hi to everyone for me.
Will do, he said. See you in six weeks.
You nodded and watched him leave, tears in your eyes. As soon as she saw the car leave the property and the tears in your eyes, Lily understood that Marshall might be gone for longer than usual and started to cry. You knew it was going to be a long few weeks. However, Marshall kept true to his words. He FaceTimed you every night and even read a couple of stories to Lily, who was always happy to see him on the screen. The tour was going great and he was having fun, though he missed you a lot. As for you, you kept working and planning the wedding. At least, this kept you busy.
Two days before Lily’s birthday, you were looking at your phone and showing her pictures and videos of Marshall on stage and she finally pronounced the magic word.
Daddy ! She shrieked.
That’s right my love ! You said happily. That’s Daddy. Oh he’s going to be so happy !
You couldn’t wait to tell Marshall Lily had finally referred to him as Daddy. Though you wished he’d been able to hear it for himself. You had two weeks left before finally seeing him and you couldn’t wait for your little family to be reunited. That’s when you decided that enough was enough and, without second-thought, you decided to book plane tickets to join him in Europe. You never thought your daughter would have a father but now she had one and your little ray of sunshine deserved to have her favorite person by her side for her second birthday. And since he couldn’t make it home, home would make it to him. You immediately started packing and called Tracy.
What’s up beautiful ? She asked. Marshall’s on stage right now. Want me to get him to call you back when the show’s over ?
Hey ! No need, you giggled. I thought I should give you a heads up… I’m flying to Europe with Lily. We’re packing right now.
Seriously ?! She asked. It’s going to be great to see you girls. He’s going to be so excited when I tell him !
Can you not ? You asked. I thought I’d surprise him !
Oooh that’s a good idea, she said with excitement. Do you need me to book your flights ?
I’m good, thanks, you said. I just wanted to let you know. We’ll be in Sweden tomorrow afternoon.
I’ll send the details of the hotel so that you can drop off the bags, and tell security to let you in the arena, Tracy offered. And if you need me, I’m one phone call away !
You were incredibly thankful for Tracy. She was the first person you befriended when you started working for Shady Records and she had been instrumental in your relationship with Marshall. In fact, she was the very person who told you to go for it, and who opened your eyes to the fact that he was into you.
As soon as your bags were packed, you got in the car with Lily, heading for the airport and ready to catch the first flight for Sweden. You couldn’t wait to see Marshall.
It was Lily’s first long flight, going out of the country, and it turned out to be an absolute nightmare. You had only managed to book economy tickets and you had to sit through an entire flight with your daughter in your lap while she was all fussy. You tried playing with her, reading to her, letting her play with her phone (even though you were absolutely against the idea of kids playing with technology) but nothing would do. Your back hurt and you knew you’d have to face the music and deal with jet lag, all while trying to work remotely for the duration of your stay. But regardless, it was worth it : you were determined to spend Lily’s second birthday with Marshall. Before the flight, you also took care of canceling the party, making up excuses and saying that Lily was sick. When you touched down in Stockholm, you were excited, despite the lack of sleep. Lily was starting to be sleepy as well, which made her less  energic. Travelling with a toddler wasn’t too easy and, since you couldn’t pack the stroller with you, you had to carry her, as well as your bag, hers and the diaper back. So much for packing light. You only planned on being gone from home a few days but, even with the bare necessities, it was a lot. Thankfully, you got the help of a very nice taxi driver who took you to the arena. It was 2:00 and you knew that, around that time, Marshall was probably starting soundcheck. You grabbed your phone and let Tracy know you were on your way. It had been on airplane mode for hours and you just realized you had missed calls from Marshall, as well as texts asking if you were alright and if you were mad at him. As soon as you got out of the cab, you found Tracy waiting for you in front of the arena. She hugged both you and Lily and helped you with your bags.
I made arrangements with the hotel this morning, they’ll have a crib set up in Marshall’s suite for Lily, she said.
You’re a godsend ! She’s been fussy the whole flight, hasn’t slept one bit… I can’t wait to put her down for a nap, hopefully get some rest, you confessed.
Someone else’s been fussy, she pointed out. He was gutted that you wouldn’t pick up the phone right before Lily’s birthday…
I didn’t even think of that, you said earnestly.
Don’t worry, all will be forgiven as soon as he sees both of you, she said reassuringly.
You entered the arena and she led you backstage, where you greeted by the whole team. Paul was surprised to see you and you had to say that you had come on impulse and moved your schedule around. He was still your boss and it hadn’t really occurred to you that you should keep him informed. However, as always, he was understanding and you suspected it had something to do with Lily hugging him and cooing « Unc Paul ». Your baby had Marshall’s whole team wrapped around her finger. Seeing all these familiar faces gave her a surge of energy and she was all giddy. You were led to the side of the stage, where you could see Marshall and Denaun doing sound check. They were absorbed and didn’t see either you or Lily. However, your daughter immediately spotted her Dad and favorite Uncle and she started shrieking.
Daddy ! She said.
You want to go and see him, baby ? You asked.
Yes ! Daddy !!! M’ere ! She called.
However, with the music being so loud, no one could hear her. You put her down and she immediately started running towards Marshall, who had his back turn and had no idea Lily was coming his way. You immediately took out your phone to capture the sweet moment. At some point, Porter spotted her and smiled as he stopped everything.
Look who’s-
DADDY !!! Your daughter shrieked.
Marshall turned and, as soon as he spotted Lily, you could see his face light up. He put the mic down and lowered himself for Lily to run in his arms. He engulfed her in a big hug and held her tightly.
What’s my name ? How did you call me ? He asked with the biggest smile.
Daddy ! She repeated with pride.
That’s right, baby ! Daddy missed you so much, he added as he kissed the top of her head.
He looked around and finally spotted you. You stopped recording and ran to hug him as well. You held each other for a long minute, savoring each other’s presence.
God I missed you, he said as he buried his face in your neck.
I missed you too, you said. We missed you.
I’m so glad you’re here, he said. I was worried when you didn’t pick up the phone last night.
Sorry, you said. I was on the plane when you called. I wanted Lily to have her favorite person by her side for her second birthday.
You’re amazing, he praised before kissing you. I’m so happy to see the two of you. Wait, I lost track of time… it’s today, right ?
It is, you giggled.
Happy birthday, baby, he told Lily before kissing her.
I can’t believe our baby is two, you said emotionally.
I can’t believe you flew all the way here, he replied. I’m so happy. You’re amazing.
I wouldn’t have been able to sit through this party and celebrate when Lily doesn’t have you by her side, you said. It doesn’t feel right. Birthdays are a family thing.
How about preschool ? He asked with a raised eyebrow. I know one of the moms at daycare is the director…
Don’t care, you chuckled. My baby has her Daddy by her side and that’s all that matters.
You stayed by Marshall’s side during soundcheck and attended his performance. Lily was wearing noise-reducing headphones and she was excited to see her Dad performing, jumping around and interacting with fans. It was a shame she was too young to remember it later, but she seemed to be having a blast. At some point, though, she fell asleep I your arms, absolutely exhausted by the time difference and the whole flight spent without closing her eyes. She had slept a bit during the day but it wasn’t enough. You were rocking her, holding her close to you when Marshall walked off the stage after the show. You could see him melt as he saw her asleep.
She’s so cute, he commented.
She was a handful, you replied. I’m glad she’s asleep.
I can’t wait for her to wake up, though, he chuckled. We haven’t even celebrated her birthday yet !
We can just have cake and make her blow on a candle tomorrow, you giggled. She won’t mind that it’s a day late. She won’t remember anyway. But at least, we’re together. That’s all that matters.
I’m so happy to have my girls with me, he said lovingly. Now, how about we hand Lily to Tracy for a second and you help me shower ?
You giggled and agreed. Tracy had always been a doting aunt figure for Lily and she had absolutely no problem watching her - not that it was too much trouble when Lily was sleeping peacefully. As soon as you were alone in his dressing room, Marshall locked the door and kissed you passionately before pining you against the wall.
God, I missed you, he said in between kisses.
Missed you too, you whispered. Missed this.
He chuckled and removed his tee-shirt. After almost two hours on stage, he was a sweaty mess but you didn’t care one bit. If anything, you liked his scent and were even more attracted to him - which you could probably blame on your compatible pheromones. You playfully ran your hands on his chest, in his back, happy to finally be able to touch him. He reciprocated by helping you out of your clothes and, soon enough, you were in the shower, kissing sloppily while lathering each other in body wash. You enjoyed the warm water pouring over you, relaxing your muscles after a long trip, as well as Marshall’s hands all over your body, teasing your breasts, grabbing your butt… The two of you couldn’t get enough of each other. While you were apart, you sent a great deal of nudes and sexy texts to each other but nothing compared to the real deal. You weren’t sure if you had to blame it on your exhaustion (his from the show, yours from the trip) or simply the euphoria of being reunited, but you swore the both of you never came this quickly before. You simply laughed it off and cuddled for a while on the couch. You were taken out of your little bubble when you heard Tracy knock on the door.
Hey lovebirds, she giggled. Time to drive to the hotel.
You quickly got dressed and went to get Lily. You expected her to be sleeping but, instead, you found her wide awake, playing with Denaun. Obviously, the little one was too happy and didn’t care too much about rest and sleep, much to your dismay. Toddlers were a handful and, even though Lily was a rather easy child, you definitely liked it more when she had proper rest. Otherwise, she could get a bit difficult, like any other child her age. Denaun was teaching her how to answer the question : « Who’s the GOAT ? » (apparently, « Nauny » was the only acceptable answer).
Finally, you two, Denaun grinned. Finally got it out of your system ?
Shut up, Marshall chuckled.
Not before the wedding, you said innocently.
Check it out, guys… Lily, who’s the GOAT ? He asked.
Naun- DADDY ! She giggled as soon as she saw Marshall pointing at himself.
Fuck you, man, Denaun sighed. Took me twenty minutes to get her to say it !
Language, Marshall scolded as he took Lily in his arms. That’s right babygirl. Daddy’s the GOAT.
Marshall was still beaming over the fact that he had finally earned the « Daddy » title and proudly carried Lily on his shoulder on the way to the car. Once you were at the hotel, everyone gathered in Marshall’s suite for dinner, which mainly consisted of snacks. You tried to get your daughter away from the sugary snacks and scolded Denaun for sneaking her some, but it was a lost cause. Even Marshall indulged her.
If she has sugar this late, she won’t sleep as well, you pointed out.
But she’s so happy, your fiancé pointed out. And it’s her birthday…
Speaking of which, Tracy said, it’s time to blow candles, don’t you think ?
You hugged your friend, who had taken the time to order a small cake with candles from room service as soon as she learned you were coming. Everyone sang your baby happy birthday and she was elated to have some of her people with her. When it was time to go to bed, you went to the bathroom to brush your teeth while Marshall put your daughter in her PJs. You walked in on him holding her and gently rocking her as she was yawning. He was so absorbed that he didn’t see you.
Happy birthday again, my princess, he said with a smile. I’m so happy Mommy brought you here. I missed you so much. I swear to God, and I swear to you, I’ll never be away on your birthday again.

I was thinking about stuff from elementary school again
So like
At my school we weren't allowed to bring stuffed animals to school unless we saved up enough gold slips to have that as a reward for a day
I regularly disregarded this rule and kept a stuffed animal in my backpack without my teachers knowledge
But there were a couple instances where I got ratted out or one occasion in second grade where I'd let my stuffed dog have its head poking out of my backpack and because its head weighed more than its body it fell out and another kid grabbed it and I was sobbing and had to tell my teacher about it
And I got scolded for it every time
HOWEVER
Not only do I think that rule is just fucking stupid
But as I was thinking about it
Having a stuffed animal in my backpack was like 90% of the reason I didn't just try to fuckin bounce at recess some days
Like I may not have technically lived within walking distance but I still KNEW how to get home from my school. Go down Princeton til you get to the big 4 way intersection. Turn left. Go straight til you get to the gas station. Turn right. Walk past the gas station. Turn right again then BOOM theres my apartment.
So there were days when I strongly considered just making a run for it at recess. Realistically I probably wouldn't have made it very far before they caught me. But my fear of getting in trouble might not have been enough to stop me from trying if I hadn't had a stuffed animal in my backpack that I would be leaving behind if I left then. And that was a distressing enough thought that I never actually tried it.
#hell i got left outside once cuz i didnt hear the whistle and was very absorbed in what i was doing so i didnt notice the other kids going#in and i noticed after my class had already gone in and i ran up to the teachers before they could direct the other 2 classes in#and that was the only reason they noticed i didnt go in with my class#so if id just hid out for a minute until they all went in i probably wouldve had a good 5 minutes before anyone realized i was gone#and couldve made a break for it#probably couldve made it at least to the end of princeton before anyone caught up to me#oh and there was that time in middle school when my science class did ''a walk through the solar system''#where the teacher had marked out to scale how far all the planets were from each other within like...idk a mile? 2 miles? from the school#and made us walk there and back for the class#and me and my friends werent super athletic so we ended up getting left behind on the way back#one of my friends called her mom to pick her up#but the teacher just straight up left us out there#that was another time id considered just saying fuck it and going home#and while i didnt have a stuffed animal in my backpack at the school waiting for me my anxiety was much higher by that point#so that held me back then#but i still considered it#honestly if i hadnt been so worried about getting in trouble i probably wouldve accepted my friends offer to ride#back in her moms car with her lol#one time we got my friend althea to ask the security guard at our middle school what hed do if we all just made a run for it#during our outside time we got after lunch#i dont remember what his answer was tho#anxiety also kept me from bouncing at lunch in highschool lol#we got to leave and go to any of the fast food restaurants near by at lunch and we usually had our backpacks with us#ik there were kids that did just bounce at lunch#but there were cops everywhere so i wouldve wanted to go home instead of just hiding out somewhere til the end of the day#and i didnt have a car til the last week of senior year#like yall were lucky i have anxiety otherwise i wouldve just peaced the fuck out when i wasnt feeling it#my dad certainly did#my dad is me with far less anxiety#except i probably wouldnt have ever set the bathrooms on fire

(Part of this post with older brother danyal al ghul)
...Okay, look. Sam knows she's staring. She knows very well that she is staring. And that if she doesn't stop staring it's gonna draw her unwanted attention, and that will only have to make her explain why she's staring. Which she doesn't want to do.
She's trying not to stare, which she thinks she should get brownie points for. She tries to look away, to find a spot on the wall to stare lifelessly at, maybe she can burn holes into some of these annoying socialites' heads. But eventually her eyes drift, and suddenly she's back to staring again.
Can you blame her though? Damian Wayne looks like a very close mini-me of her fucking best friend. Seriously, it's like looking into a mirror to the past. If that mirror to the past had green eyes rather than blue and a distinctive lack of a facial scar.
The first time she sees him when her parents drag her over to Bruce Wayne to butter up to him she has to do a doubletake. Then a triple take. Then a quadruple take, just for good measure that she was seeing what she was actually seeing. She was sure she looked like one of those stress toys that when squeezed had their eyes pop out comically like a Saturday morning cartoon, that's what she certainly felt like anyways.
Look, Danny's come a decent way from being that scowl-y, jerkish little ten year old she first met when he arrived like the wind to Amity Park five years ago (even if he was still occasionally scowl-y and jerkish), but one thing that's stayed the same is how reserved he is about his home life prior to being taken in by the Fentons.
He doesn't talk about it much, and Sam's come to know that he's very good at changing the subject when it gets brought up. Even after being friends for nearly four years, the only thing she and Tuck know for certain is that he has a little brother that he refers to as 'starlight', whom he cares a lot about but left on really bad terms with. And that he's never met his father, but wants to and knows who he is.
He's never told her or Tucker who he was though, and glancing at Bruce Wayne, Sam is realizing why. She can begrudgingly acknowledge all the good he's done for Gotham, but... well, if Danny told her that Bruce Wayne was his dad, she wouldn't have believed him at all.
But she's starting to see the resemblance, as subtle as it is.
And she sees the resemblance to Damian Wayne, her eyes dropping back down to him as he wears a very Danny-like scowl on his face, arms crossed behind his back as his eyes swept around the ballroom. He was five years younger than Danny, and god it was so, so weird.
His eyes turned on to her, and they locked gazes for a moment.
Involuntarily, Sam makes a startled noise and looks away. Fingers tap against her purse, black and purple and unfortunately a clutch that only held her phone and her wallet in it. She would have kept a knife on her, but her parents put their foot down and there was a security detail at the door. Only in Gotham.
Silently, she was hoping that the little Danny-me didn't say anything. Or at least, he hadn't noticed her staring. Which was a tall order if she ever heard one -- and unfortunately, her silent prayers went unanswered as her mother's eyes dropped down onto her.
"Did you say something, Samantha?" She asks in a sickeningly sweet voice, a sound that makes Sam's skin crawl. Her dad and Bruce Wayne's attention also turns onto her, and she glowers at her mom from the corner of her eye.
"I didn't say anything." Sam says, barely keeping her tone polite as she turned her head away. Her mother clucks her tongue, disapproving, but from her peripherals doesn't pester her more
Bruce Wayne, the bastard, takes that time to turn to Sam and grace her with his dime-a-dozen billboard smiles. "I've been talking with your parents this whole time, Miss Manson, you must be terribly bored. How is your schooling going?"
Sam eyes him up and down. On one hand, she immediately wants to be snarky. It's none of his business what her school life is like, she doesn't care for his fucking small talk.
On the other hand, this was Danny's whole father. Someone who she knows that Danny has wanted to meet for, what she's assuming, his whole life. He's never brought it up much, but she remembers that very quiet, solemn conversation she and Tucker had with him where he admits to having never met his dad. But god does he want to.
And... wait. Sam's eyes narrow, and she meets Bruce Wayne's eyes. Does this man even know Danny exists? She drops her gaze down to Damian, who was staring at her suspiciously, and then back up to Bruce, and she alternates between them.
Why was Damian living with Bruce, but not Danny? Why hasn't Bruce done anything to reach out to him - what was going on with Danny's biological family that Danny had to be separated from them, but not Damian? Danny's always been kinda mysterious, but now things weren't adding up.
Was Danny given up? Does Bruce just not want Danny, but wanted Damian? Why the fuck does Bruce Wayne know about Damian but not her best friend -- or does he know and just not care? He's fought for custody for his adoptive kids before, does he just not want to fight for his other biological son? Does he think Danny's not worth it?
She's never cared much about the Wayne family before, other than to hear about the advancements on WE's eco-friendly tech, but Sam thinks she's gonna have to look into why Damian Wayne was living with the Waynes.
Slowly, with a protective anger beginning to burn in her gut and crawl up her throat, a scowl slowly curls at the corner of her lip as she redirects her glare from her mother onto Bruce. "It's going fine," She says curtly, jutting her chin out defiantly. "Me and my friend Danny started a petition to fix the leaky faucets in the girls and boys' bathrooms in order to conserve more water for the rest of the city."
She eyes his face, waiting to see if anything like recognition flashes through it. And- and nothing. Sam breathes in slowly through her nose, trying to quell the red that's blurring the edge of her vision -- does he just, not know where Danny is?
Her parents however, make vaguely displeased expressions. "Our Samantha is... quite passionate about her pet projects." Her dad says, laughing low and nervously, "she's very vocal about silly things like that."
"Her friend Daniel is perhaps even worse than she is sometimes." Her mother adds on, fanning her face with her perfectly manicured hands with a sigh. "I swear, he's the one that keeps dragging her into these things."
Sam's anger turns on its head, and she whirls on her heel like a fire-breathing dragon. "It's Danyal." It rolls out like instinct. Danny's told them both that he hates the Americanized pronunciation of his name, but in a rare moment of restraint, puts up with it for reasons unknown to her. "And Danny doesn't make me do anything, it was my idea."
The name, Danyal, seems to ring some kind of bell in Brucie Wayne's head, because she sees him and Damian quietly perk up like two cats pricking up their ears. Her eyes flick onto him immediately, something dangerous rearing its head. So Bruce Wayne knows about Danny. And he's not reaching out to him. Is he? She's not sure.
She does know that she's gonna rip his throat out if she finds out that he's known about Danny this entire time and has been ignoring him while favoring his little brother. She'll hunt down Aragon herself and steal his dragon-shifting amulet and wreck house on Bruce Wayne if that's the case. Batman and his league of vigilantes be damned. Her parents don't notice her slowly turning head towards Bruce.
But Bruce does, and she makes direct eye contact with him. His smile doesn't falter, he just tilts his head like a curious puppy and looks at Sam's parents. She hopes Bruce can read minds, she hopes he can hear her threatening him.
"Danyal?" He asks, and Sam doesn't know if she hates the fact that he said it correctly or not. She just continues burning holes into him and hoping he might spontaneously combust.
Her mother waves her hand dismissively, tilting her nose up poshly into the air. "Our dear Samantha's little... foster friend from school," she says, not even bothering to hide her disdain, "a creepy little boy with the most garish scar on his face. He's a rude little thing, not good for polite company."
Scratch that, Sam mentally alternates between ripping into her parents and Bruce. She whirls on them. "Do not talk about Danny that way." She all but snarls, and they all but ignore her.
(She's tearing up the upholstery when she gets home. She's going to paint over the fine china. She's going to do something to make them pay for this.)
"Oh yes, he was taken in by that freaky Fenton family a few years ago." Her dad continues in lieu of her mom, and they both shake their heads disapprovingly. "It's just what our city needs, another menace."
"Danny is not a menace." Sam continues, raising her voice while her hands shake with rage. Her parents finally look at her, but she can already tell that they're going to scold her for raising her voice. She bulldozes over them and jabs her black-painted finger at them. "He's got a bigger heart than the both of you combined."
"Samantha, please." her mom says, exasperated. They both give her disapproving looks, Sam thinks about grabbing champagne off the tray of a nearby waiter and throwing it in their faces. "You defend that boy far too much. What do you actually know about him and his family?"
Sam sets her jaw, puffing herself up like a dragon protecting its hoard. She steps into her mom's space. "I know that he loves the stars; you can ask him anything about astronomy and he could give you an entire lecture on the formation, class types, and various gasses that stars are made up of. He can tell you how the Earth was formed, he can tell you about the visible light spectrum and about light curves, and a whole ton of other stuff that I don't really understand. But Danny loves talking about it."
Her face twists and scowls, "I know he cares a ton about the environment and about fixing light pollution, and preserving the forests and natural habitats of animals." She nearly jabs her finger into her mom's chest, "I know he loves dogs, and that there's one he feeds every day on the way to school that he calls Cujo, its a St. Bernard puppy and Danny carries him around whenever he sees him after school, and is in the middle of training him."
It's not a total lie, but it's not the whole truth either. Cujo doesn't need food, but Danny gives him it anyways. "I know he likes spicy food and loves movies but specifically only sci-fi and horror, and he hates most martial arts movies. His favorite superhero is the Martian Manhunter, but Batman comes in at a close second." For reasons to her that were pretty unknown, but it didn't matter.
"I know he loves wordplay and making puns, which I would have never expected from him when we first met, but it's so unbelievably Danny-like that I can't imagine him not making puns." And she smiles a little to herself, she remembers the first time Danny intentionally made a pun once and it got startled laughs out of both her and Tucker.
Her smile suddenly falters, and she swallows. Her lips purse up, wobbling, and she very quickly glances over to Damian Wayne, of whom is watching her with a vaguely bewildered expression alongside Bruce.
She turns her eyes back onto her parents. "And I know that he worries a lot, even if he has a shit way of showing it. I know he had a little brother that he hasn't seen since he was adopted by the Fentons, and he doesn't talk about him often but when he does he he calls him 'starlight'." From the corner of her eye, she sees Damian jerk.
"So- so, so what if he's not 'good for polite company'." Sam's voice, embarrassingly, cracks down the middle. But she's so angry over Danny's behalf that she doesn't really care. "Or that he can be mean, and critical, and stubborn. He's learning, and he's becoming kinder by the day. That's more than I can say about you."
(She remembers when Danny finally admitted to her and Tucker being his 'closest friends'. It was sometime before the portal incident, and it felt like a milestone because beforehand he only really referred to them as his companions or allies.)
(At the time, he'd looked unsure of himself. Skittish like a stray in the back of an alleyway, almost shy in his own way. It had come out stilted, slow, like an infant taking its first steps, and it would have been endearing if it hadn't been heartbreaking.)
Her parents rear back like she'd struck them, and her mother holds a hand against her chest in aghast. Sam doesn't care, she blinks the sting out of her eyes. "Samantha." Her mother starts.
Sam cuts her off, "I don't care what you have to say, you-- you pricks." she snaps, around her, there are gasps. Belatedly, she realizes she's grown an audience, but again she doesn't care. "Danny might be an asshole, but he cares. And I'd rather be around someone whose mean but cares, than someone whose nice but doesn't."
With that, she whirls on her foot and turns on Bruce Wayne, who has been silent the entire time with a surprised expression on his face. He starts to shake out of it when Sam turns to him, but she doesn't give him the chance to speak. "Enjoy your party." She snarls, and then stalks away.

1. it’s my 24th birthday today, so my goal of being published by the time i’m 25 is now a one year looming monster, but i never specified what kind of published and am currently looking in various literary magazines that are recommended for writers who have yet to be published, so i’m surprisingly confident that i can make it work? and tbh even if whatever i write isn’t officially published before my 25th birthday, if i have someone in the process of being published then i’ll be happy!! no matter what though, i’m gonna try to be proud of myself for at least giving it my best shot!!
2. i honestly love that my birthday is on the ides of march because the ides of march meme shitposting is only a thing on tumblr but it also being my birthday makes it easier to like. be excited about the ides of march outside of tumblr. like even in person i can be like “it’s my birthday! i’m an ides of march babe (:” and if someone is like oh what’s that? or if they say something along the lines of oh like julius caesar? i can be like yep!! and even if it’s a small thing outside of tumblr it brings me immense enjoyment and amusement being able to bring it up off of tumblr
3. transportation situation has been very rough since june 2023 when i totalled my car, my gap insurance are being assholes and i ended up putting my foot down on the phone with them yesterday which i’m pretty proud of because i am NOT a confrontational person (something i’ve been working on this past year, so seeing some improvement with my ability to hold my ground and not be a pushover yesterday was very cool!!) i was told i’d get a response from them by friday next week no matter what, and if i don’t then friday of next week i will continue to wreak havoc upon them. but my moms car which i’ve been using since my accident broke down yesterday, hopefully it’s fixable but my parents were saying it might be done for, so trying to think of how i’m gonna get to work next week is kind of stressing me out lmao, but for now i’m just gonna focus on enjoying my birthday the best i can because i don’t want to start off being 24 with an overwhelming anxiety for something that won’t be a potential issue until monday. plus i already messaged my boss today to let her know that i’m going to do everything i can to make it work out but just so she’s in the loop and knows of the potential of me not being able to make my morning shifts (one of my coworkers said she’s more than happy to give me a ride for our afternoon shifts which does help relieve some of the stress!) and i told her i’d let her know for sure sunday so that if necessary she can have time to figure out someone to fill in for me in the mornings!
overall: life is weird and i ended being 23 yesterday with a shitty situation but a positive outlook and i am going to enjoy my first day of being 24 no matter what because honestly i fucking earned it. happy friday everyone, i hope it’s a good day for you and me both!
#aritalks#i did cry a little bit when i first woke up because i dont really know what to do about work and also i hate not having a car i can use#not only because of the work aspect but also getting my license when i was 18 gave me a freedom i didn’t have before#and i don’t like having to rely on other people just to like go to the fucking store or something yk#but then my best friend/roommate messaged me happy birthday and i was like fuck it! today is going to be a good day!#the stressful uncertainties can wait until tomorrow#also one of my best friends who hasn’t said happy birthday to me the past two years#(not intentionally im p sure they were just busy on my birthdays the past two years#and then had that moment of ‘oh shit i didnt send a message fuck i think its too late now’ which i totally get bc anxiety things yk)#was one of the first people to message me happy birthday!!#i’m also hoping to still be able to go see my mom and then stay the night at my dads tonight#so i can see both my parents and also my baby siblings for my birthday#my dads working today but after he texted happy birthday i sent him a text asking if he thinks we could still make it work#my mom is asleep still i think (she called me at midnight and left a voicemail singing happy birthday!! but her sleep schedule has been all#over the place recently so i’m waiting until 11:30 to call her which is in like 30 mins)#but she said something yesterday about driving out to me to give me a hug and also bring me my diabetes stuff that got delivered#(her house is my mailing address because i know it’s not going to change bc it’s my great grandparents house that she’s partially inhereting#when my great grandpa dies but since i have moved out of my dads my address has changed twice and i didnt have a mailbox at my last place so#just for the sake of consistency and not having to worry about important shit getting sent to the wrong address i’ve had her house as my#mailing address since i moved out of my dads at 19)#so i think i’m gonna ask her if she can just pick me up instead so i can go to her house w her and hang out with her#and hopefully my dad will be able to at least stop by with my siblings so i can see them too#i’d like to stay the night with them but if we can’t make it happen then i can also stay the night w my mom and hopefully tomorrow figure#out the car situation. might have to rent a car for a week if i can afford it? best case scenario is my moms car can be fixed but i still#dont know whats wrong with it ik there are two potential problems and one is fixable the other is not#the fixable one would cost like $150-$400 to fix depending on if we get a used part or a new one#if its $150-$200 ish i can probably afford to pay for the whole thing or at least most of it#but if its more than that hopefully my dad or one of my family members can help#and i can just pay them back in like $50 increments with my next few paychecks#just realized i said i wouldnt worry abt the car thing today and also i think im at tag limit to i’ll stop now lmao xoxo gossip girl ❤️

Daydreaming about my tiny future home with a garden where I can grow vegetables and rhubarb and herbs for my tea and I have a kitchen where the oven is always preheating and there's fresh loaves of bread and hand made butter and cheese and I'm kneeding the pastry dough and I'm sitting in the window reading a book and getting caught in a daydream and I'm writing poetry and petting my dog and watching whatever tv I want or sitting in silence and I can just be alone by myself with no one else around at all.

actual footage of the smallest dance imaginable. a hundred people bought tickets which is. not a lot for an entire seven cities worth of students in a school. and then there was maybe fifty people total in the building at the most filled up time cause so many people just used the tickets as donating to charity and didn’t even want to go
#was excited to come home and laugh at the dance and then it just got a little much toward the end#but i still think it was pretty funny. also there were so many songs that literally no one there knew??#my friends begged the dj (social studies teacher) to skip songs no one was dancing to and they wouldn’t#the entire night was really funny before i started falling apart about everything it just became a little much#kind of this whole week combined. monday i tried to take the bus to school showed up ten minutes early waited half an hour it never showed#(first time trying to take the bus from the apartment. school said there’s a stop here but apparently no)#tuesday i tried to take the bus after school and it never stopped within a mile of the apartment. got dropped off at a trailer park#that was not mine. had to have my mom pick me up. and then go to work after like regular#then wednesday was a little bit normal i think. pretty much regular. but did have trouble getting home again!! just not as exciting#anyway then thursday was probably maybe normal?? except my sister came in to school to visit her old favorite teacher. who is my teacher#in economics. and knows me trans and i had to have a conversation with my sister. so maybe not that normal#and then on friday. my older sister had my key card and i couldn’t get into the apartment building. waited outside for my little sister for#twenty minutes in the cold and then we went in the lobby and had to wait for a stranger to get close enough to ask for help. bad experience#so anyway there’s been a lot leading up to today. and it makes sense that i fell apart eventually. but no longer crying so call that a win#hope you all are well. i’ll go to sleep eventually. just a lot to get off my chest. in conclusion wasn’t this dance stupid#we hadn’t had a charity gala since pre-covid so i think just nobody knew what it would be like. i’m the only grade who’s been before#if it wasn’t for the charity gala i wouldn’t know i was trans. somebody complimented my transition there and i was like sorry i can do that?#(had cut my hair short and was wearing a suit. considered myself a stag bisexual and hadn’t heard of transmasculinity /gen)#so i had maybe high expectations. anyway i’m probably running out of tags soon just. yeah. idk. today was a lot#friends only#delete later

i keep forgetting how to talk to people bc the person i talk to the most is my mom but whenever we text we use something closer to ASL grammar than English grammar so i forget how to words sometimes
