In other news, I've lost my glasses. I've misplaced them before, but never to this extent that I haven't been able to find them at home, at work, or in our car. So... yeah, that's a huge bummer, unless they turn up somewhere random where I didn't think to look before (but that would just beg the question of why they'd be in such a random location in the first place) I'm gonna have to replace them.
I need to get my prescription updated anyways so this time around I'm gonna just do the appointment, get my prescription and measurements, and then order some new ones online from like, Zenni or something (I've heard good things about them and their prices are DEFINITELY more reasonable). I just really liked the frames that I had, so I'm really hoping I can find the same ones again or something similar; and honestly even if I do go with a cheaper place like Zenni, I need transition lenses for my light sensitivity so it's always gonna be pricey no matter who I buy them from 😭
Unfortunately there seems to be a high volume of appointments rn (probably because it's the school season, idk) so the place I usually go to is booked up until December. Then when I called another place to check their booking schedule, they told me they could get me in next Monday at 4... which just so happens to land at the tail end of a 3 hour shift that I have to do at my second job, a job that I literally only work 3-6 hours a week for 💀 Sooo the odds of that are kind of astounding (and incredibly frustrating) but apparently cancellations are relatively common so they have me on a waitlist, and worst case, if I don't get called in sooner on account of a cancellation, I only have to wait until mid October, about a month away. Still a pain, but better than waiting until frigging December LOL Like man I just need to replace my glasses, why is this so frustrating 💀

hey!! i have some fashion questions if you dont mind, did you make the white shirt and pants in the first pic on your vampire post yourself? do you wear prescription glasses, and if so whered you get red lenses from? i am slowly taking an interest in dressing similarly regularly lmao
Hello ! I did make the whole outfit in the first picture. The shirt is a basic men's linen undershirt (the kind you make with rectangles, it's a great beginner project and there are a lot of tutorials online), and the pants are based off this pattern by Laughing Moon . As for the glasses, I am quite short sighted so the glasses in the first pic are indeed my regular prescription glasses, but the red ones are basic sunglasses I got in a thrift shop so I wore contacts with them. I do think you can customize prescription sunglasses with different lens colours when you buy them online at places like Polette and similar stores but I've never tried that myself.
I hope you'll find what you're looking for to embrace your future style ;) Cheers !

Glasses Review - Firmoo
Hello vision impaired friends, I bring you the gospel of Ordering Your Damn Glasses Online
I have previously ordered from EyeBuyDirect (luxotica/lenscrafters'/America's Best in disguise, sorry.) and Zenni Optical ( most well known online provider, A+ would recommend) and have seen lots of ads for free pairs from a competitor, Firmoo. I have too much prescription for the free pair offers to ever work out from ANY provider, but their fun designs put them on my list.
When my current glasses broke, I was dinking around and saw their current promotion is Buy One Get One Free PLUS 20% off lenses and as lenses are the real $$$ I jumped on that like tigger on crack. I am VERY nearsighted with astigmatism and the average pair of glasses from lenscrafters used to cost me $300 minimum.
After much deliberation with a million tabs open and a poll I ignored the results of for Reasons, I ordered a pair of clear frames and a pair of purple steampunk-y wireframes . Two pairs of HIGH PRESCRIPTION glasses for $87 shipped. I could cry, y'all.
Note: I have an up to date prescription and a nifty app that measures Pupillary Distance or 'PD'. you will need both these things accurate to have the best experience buying your glasses online.
I ordered them 9/22, they shipped 9/25, I received them 9/29 with regular shipping. They came well packed - each pair was in a bag made of cleaning cloth material inside a sturdy plastic case and they come in a foil bubble mailer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both pairs feel well made, with lots of attention to detail-
however I did not pay attention to detail or pay extra money for the Re-he-heaaallly thin lenses. So the clear ones are slightly too big and I hate the way the nose pieces sit, while the purple ones are a wee bit small across the temple and heavy to boot. I haven't had dents in my nose like this since I was 12.
the website lists their exchange policy as 30 days, the pamphlet that came with the glasses says 60. Either way it was pretty painless to go into my order history and select "exchange". The form I filled out with my reasons for dissatisfaction promised me I would be contacted within 24 hours.
My 'personal Firmoo consultant', 'Karen', emailed me with a code for the full price before discount of both pairs + standard shipping, as well as the usual customer service canned answers about checking the sizing information and did I know I could upgrade the lenses?
Also I could keep the failed pairs 'FOR NOW', here are some places that accept glasses as donations. (mixed messages, Karen, but sweet!)
New friends are April006, round anodized wireframes with a cute dingly gem thing, and Sandy020 , literal tortoiseshell cat eye frames.
This time I used the site's search terms to cut the temple width and earpiece length options down and double checked the weight of the base frames. (14g vs 24g for the round wireframes before my coke-bottle lenses. RIP my nose. )
New order was placed 10/5 and they arrived 10/17 . (last time I checked the tracking estimated arrival had creeped from the 19th up to the 23rd so grain of salt. This may be a tactic to make the order feel like it got here faster or legit delays. In my case there was a federal holiday involved.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Complete disclosure I'm gonna grab a pair of pliers and take the little dangly off the wireframes. It makes a noise when I move my head and if I don't fold the frames in the right order when I take them off it'll scratch up the lenses. I ain't gonna remember to avoid that, so off it goes.
The Good:
Large selection, Good Quality, Good Communication. Lots of Off the Beaten Path options for internet weirdos. Firmoo p much always has a promotion going.
My wallet is so happy. SO HAPPY. Frames run $20-30ish to start. lenses will vary with your prescription and options.
If y'all want 50% off your first frames and to give me a $10 credit they have a referral program and my code is T4Z8I2. BOGO20 is a better value but it expires 11/01/23.
The Bad:
Not flexible about lens options- you go down one track and pick your options within that. If there was a way to put tinting on a pair of glasses other than blue light blocking I couldn't find it. (in contrast I believe Zenni lets you choose a range of colors and tint depth on any pair, designed as sunnies or not)
You Will Get Emails. Firmoo REALLY wants you to buy more glasses and post about it and tell your friends and HERE THIS CODE IS ONLY GOOD FOR 3 DAYS, GO BUY NEW GLASSES. They are marketing themselves to fashionable young influencers who change styles every month. Unsubscribe with impunity.
like Zenni, this is a company with the majority of it's functionality based overseas. It's cheaper because you're ordering directly from a factory and not paying Luxotica's markups to itself. Customer service is mostly English as Second Language speakers and there may be delays.
Not For Emergencies. I was able to coast on a pair of glasses from a prescription or 2 ago but it's gonna take time for your order to be made and shipped.
Overall I'm very happy with them and will probably order again.
Next time I have spare money I'm aiming at Wherelight because y'all. they are next down on the list of reputable to shady AF but they have the most amazing WTF designs.

Goblin HRT day 1
Knock!
kNOCk!!
knocK!!!
Dr Erian looked up from the piles of documents on his desk, confused at the unnecessary noise "Um... Come in?" The door slammed open "Ma'am you can't jus-" <lemme through!> "It's alright, Nurse, let her in" Dr Erian mustered, pushing his glasses upwards. The nurse sighed and shrugged before leaving a short disheveled girl in her place. The girl stomped forth excitedly "Ah. you must be Maxin-" <Monkey.> "Right to it, eh? Well, monkey would be a very easy transition process. Afterall, Humans are Prim-" <No, my name, Monkey!> Dr Erian cleared his thoat "Okay... Well, Monkey, how can I help you today?" Monkey sat in the chair awkwardly and grinned as she steepled her fingers on the doctors desk <Goblin. No matter how hard, Goblin.> Dr erian pulled off his glasses and rubbed them with his coat "this is getting out of hand... Okay. But I must warn you, races from a more fictional realm make for a significantly harder transition. You must also realize there are many risks, including but not limited to - Lowering of intelligence, worse attention span, inability to blahblahblahblahblahblahblah." Monkey stared off into space, drool falling from her mouth slightly.
"Did you catch that? I - Miss Monkey?" Dr. Erian softly laughed in disbelief "Nevermind... I see you'll fit right in. Sign here! Wait - did you live as your perferred species for at least 2 y-" He trailed off, returning his sight to Monkey, who was still distracted "Nevermind, a silly question." He snapped his fingers at Monkey and she snapped back to attention "Sign here, Miss" <Oh! that easy... Really!? I'm so happy! You're a life saver Doc!> She squeeled and flapped her hands. Dr. Erian returned the glasses to his face and mouthed 'wow' before responding "Don't mention it. But we're gonna have to take bloodwork before we can prescribe these medications as to prevent complications." <Hey, I said no matter how hard, didn't I? Go for it.>
Monkey entered her home and rubbed her sore arm before quickly kicking off her boots and replacing her clothes with an oversized hoodie, her height always felt wrong, anything that made her feel shorter helped.
She let out an exhausted sigh and layed down amidst her pile of stuffed animals, she greeted every one of them and rolled to stare at the cieling. Pausing for a time before her lip started trembling <babies~ i'm... it happened. I'm... i'm gonna be me!!> She screamed ecstatically, tears flooding her eyes before she pulled a pillow over her face and squeeled into it.
This won't be easy, she knew it, and this would be a long road with difficult changes. But even still. It felt like a massive weight has been pulled from her shoulders. Like she has been running towards something unreachable for years and can finally rest.
She is to pick up her new prescriptions the day after, and she couldn't contain her excitement. With her friends all by her side, she sobbed into the night.
[Thanks for reading! I genuinely hope you enjoyed. This is part one of Goblin HRT, a concept that means a lot to me since realizing my identity. In it's essence it is a lot more comedic in tone but there will be parts that get a bit graphic or gloomy.
Bonus info! This story if it wasn't clear focuses on Monkey, a stand in for me, but I excel at Third person pov. The pov switches between Erian and Monkey to get the full picture, though i'm used to writing limited 3rd person. The arrows '<>' are a callsign Monkey uses online that are meant to look like the outwards facing ears that Goblins are usually depicted with, it became such a main stay that when she thinks or speaks in sentences she imagines the arrows around them.
Also I will likely reupload in the future with art attached and when I make another part but I wanted to get this out sooner rather than later.
If you're willing i'd appreciate if you would repost! , Follow for more, it helps me spread reach! ]

I made up the potato salad plus the sauce and rice mixture for tomorrow's dinner with friends so all I'll have to do is heat things up and make the omelets. We haven't been able to get together in quite a while, so it'll be nice, but tomorrow also happens to be Eye Appointment Day and I don't know what to expect from this place or how long they'll keep me, and of course I'll be walking back home, so hopefully I can make it in enough time before the guests arrive.
I found a pair of glasses online that are exactly what I'm looking for, so once they get me my prescription, I think I'll go that route.

Chapter 7 of Time’s Arrow, “I love everybody because I love you! // But I'm a chemical compound, You're just the gun in my mouth” is here!
Memento mori. Unus Annus. /ref
PLEASE READ THE WARNINGS AND PROCEED WITH CAUTION. THIS CHAPTER IS ROUGH.
Details below! (Format is funky because I am on mobile rn. Will be fixed later!)
- The lyrics for this chapter’s title are from “Strawberry Blonde” by Mitski and “Gross” by Penelope Scott! The first part is for the majority of the chapter, as it reflects how happy and filled with love Beej is feeling. The other one is for the last scene. :)
- “I wanna remember this moment.” “Every detail. I don’t wanna forget a single one.” - this is inspired by a similar scene in “Parks and Rec”, one of my favorite shows!! Specifically the scene where Ben proposed to Leslie.
- “ “Hm?” Beetlejuice titled their head a little, then pursed their lips as the words processed in their slow, stuttering mind.” - Auditory processing disorder my beloathed. It takes a sec for the info to hit the brain!
- “ “Like, worse than ‘Spiral’.” Beetlejuice gasped, placing a hand on his chest. … “Okay. Now I gotta know. What’s worse than ‘Spiral’?” ” - “Spiral” is the worst of the Saw movies. I will die on this hill. Beetlejuice saw this as the high insult it is.
- “.. I know I’m regaining some weight, but-” - THE RETURN OF THE KING.
- “I’ll have to go back to school. No more online-only.” - Ash straight up lied to the school and said she went with her parents and sister to Massachusetts so she could do all her schooling online.
- “… wanna watch ‘Renfield’?” - “Renfield” is spectacular. Amazing. Showstopping. But someone in Beej’s particular situation should not be watching it for reasons that would be spoilers for that wonderful movie. Go watch it!!!
- The whole dinner cheek kiss thing was planned by Barbara and Adam! They made sure Beetlejuice was okay with telling others first, but he wasn’t sure how to, so they took matters into their own hands!
- “ “I always wondered about you three,” he heard Charles say. He almost thought he heard a twinge of fondness to his voice, but he was certain he must be imagining things. “Good for you all.” ” - Poly ally. He saw their slow burn romance from a million miles away and decided to let them all sort it out on their own. And yes it WAS FONDNESS. Beetlejuice just won’t accept it yet.
- Delia is trying to figure out what prescription glasses to get Beetlejuice on her own, with the help of the Internet! It’s very tough when he doesn’t cooperate.
- “We’ve read two books together now.” … “Or do I just have ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘Frankenstein’ memorized?” - Beetlejuice read “Frankenstein”, like Lydia suggested! They loved it.
- Yes that is an actual passage from “The Great Gatsby”. No I am not sorry. Yes it is extremely thematically relevant.
- “They reached up to scratch at an itch on their scalp, clacking their teeth.” - they scratched it like a dog does. They always do!
- The second passage Beetlejuice quotes is from “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”. It is one of his (and my own, I almost named myself Gawain) favorite old tales. He has referenced it before, and it comes up quite a few times again! Even later in this chapter. ;) (And yes it is extremely thematically relevant. Sorry not sorry I am hiding the foreshadowing and themes in other stories..)
- “ Delia grinned wide, exchanging some sort of glance with Barbara. “It’s not too much?” The demon lightly shook their head. “Splendid!” ” - I wonder what this is about?
- “I say it’s too bold of a departure, if you ask me.” - This is a reference to Beetlejuice’s first line in the musical! Also a jab at myself. LoopJuice is perhaps too bold a departure from the original source material…
- “Images of kisses pressed to their temple, their cheek, their jaw, memories of sweet words, gentle little pleads and promises flashed through their mind. Pink rose in their chest, warmth burned in their cheeks. They inevitably gave in, of course.” - EASILY WON OVER BY KISSES AND PETS. What a fool! /hj
- “They think perhaps this is the closest they’ve ever felt to being happy. Not just slightly sardonic or glibly nihilistic, but happy. Like real people do.” - Part of this is a reference to the last scene in “BoJack Horseman”, since that show influenced how I write quite a bit. And the last part is a reference to “Like Real People Do” by Hozier, which is on my Beetlands playlist!
- “No, perhaps this was normal, he decided.” - It is not. There are two reasons! 1. Beej’s permanent frostbite damage making him more susceptible to cold 2. Cyrus is straight up lurking here. He is nearby and watching him.
- “It scratched at the back of his mind like a wild hound begging to be let in the house, asking for shelter from the storm. Only to savage the home’s inhabitants. Where had it come from? What storm was it hiding from? Fuck. Where the hell is my head right now?” - Self roast. Sometimes I go too crazy with the poetic descriptions…
- “Beetlejuice briefly wondered if the cold could drive a demon mad. He thought maybe he’d read about it happening to breathers before.” - This is a real thing! He’s specifically thinking about the Donner Party.
- “Less and less of you will be left each day, slowly siphoning out until you are empty.” - sorry not sorry, another “The Fall of the House of Usher” show reference. Mike Flanagan is my bestie.
- “ “Your time.” Beetlejuice clenched their jaw as his words rippled through their mind. Darling, I only want your time. They gasped in shuddering breaths, their ears going back. Give me your time. Fuck.” - took him a while, but he finally caught the obvious loophole! Far too late, unfortunately.
- “Ah, what was that wonderful phrase from the inane little story you enjoyed so much said?” Cyrus’ grin widened impossibly. “One year hence.” - He is referencing “The Green Knight”! This is what the Green Knight says to Gawain to let him know his fate is sealed. Also, note the difference between Barbara showing interest in one of his favorite stories, while Cyrus belittles it.

i actually tried to order some new glasses online a few months ago. some heart shaped ones from eyebuydirect. and mind you i had filtered their stupid website by only frames compatible with my prescription. so i placed the order, ok. and then i get this email like, “there’s a problem…” and so i call and i’m like Hey i got this email. and they’re like Oh yeah that’s because your prescription is actually too fucked up and you’re actually too much of a sick and twisted and deformed freak for the heart shaped lenses. But you could choose any of the basic frames that aren’t heart shaped and it would be fine. and i’m like Ok, how about these other heart shaped frames that actually use like a cat eye lens? and they’re like No. you’re too fucked up for those too. and i’m like Ok are you able to cancel my order or is that something i need to do on my end? and they’re like Oh are you sure? we could do any square or rectangle or round frame… and i’m like Well unfortunately i kind of just wanted the heart shaped ones specifically. so they canceled my order and i went to 1-800-contacts instead and had a beautiful and amazing and perfect experience with zero issues

Today was a hectic hell of a day. So I needed to get new glasses and already had my prescription from a week ago. to fucking expensive to get from the optometrist until I found out hey! My insurance covers most of the cost. I drive back there today on my day off and there's a sign saying they're all out to lunch. Just everyone. So I go home, relax, then drive there again. I walk and already the 2 old ladies are confused and just wondering why I was there without a appointment. I don't need one? I was here last week and now I'm here to buy new glasses and use my insurance. Apparently they didn't like that. Turns out you need an appointment just to buy glasses? The optometrist is 1 part eye doctor and 1 part glasses store, so why the fuck do you need an appointment for the store part? Whatever, doesn't matter because they tell me my insurance actually won't cover shit. It helped cover the exam itself, but not the glasses for whatever dumb reason. So I get real upset and feel myself breaking down so I flipped them off and walked out. Maybe a bit to much but I was very annoyed and frustrated. After I finish my breakdown and crying in my car I go home. I go online and check lenscrafters but my insurance wasn't listed on their website. So I go to my insurance website and after decoding its shitty UI I find a list of optometrist who should in theory take my insurance. I call the first one and they're like no. Sorry we don't take your insurance and I told them my insurance website said differently, but I guess that's just a big fucking lie. So I go ok, lets call my insurance and just have them send me a list. I call the little number on the back and dear fucking god. Stupid automated bullshit I hate. After who knows how long dealing with that I finally get a list texted to me. Never once actually reaching a real person to talk to btw. I get the list and go the website of the first one and closets to me. They're open, I call to make sure they take it and no answer. I call again, no answer. A third time, no answer. Welp. Place is open and they have got no one manning the phones it seems and hell they don't even have a frustrating automated response. At this point I'm just pissed frustrated and tired so I just say fuck it lets go to lenscrafters in the mall and just pay whatever the hell for new glasses I need. I get to the mall and as I'm walking to the entrance I realize, shit I don't have my prescription. I go back to my car to get it and yep, it's not in my fucking car. At this point I just go you know what, no. I'm getting new glasses today dammit. I drove home, get my prescription, and drive back. I get there and shouts out to Michael the salesman! Seriously he greets me right as I walk in and I just say hey, do you have glasses like my old ones, but full frame? He goes right to the back and bring out like 6 different ones and tells me to take my time looking and try things on. I do that. I look around. I'm confused why glasses of all things are gendered (seriously what the hell is the difference between women and men glasses, why gender glasses of all things?) I find the few I like. We sit down try them on and he shows me the total price of them and wouldn't you fucking know it! They do take my insurance! Despite their website not listing it they fucking take it and thank fucking god they did because glasses are expensive even with it. Make glasses cheaper you assholes! People need these to fucking see! They should not cost even half as much as they do like most necessary medical expenses! Anyways he tells me to come back in a hour, I do, I wander the mall. I head into Hot Topic where I just look around and the person working there was super pretty, I say nothing of course as I'm a shy little bitch. I go eat and just wander the mall like some vagabond. A hour passes, I get them, they fit fine and just goddamn I should have come here at the start and saved me a fucking day. So yeah I got new glasses. Will post them soon :3

Also a round faced girlie and my back is to have clear frames, that gives you a bit more wiggle room with the shape of the frames. I think these are the glasses I have.
https://www.ray-ban.com/usa/eyeglasses/RX4378Vrb4378v%20optics-transparent/8056597624695
I also have a Maui Jim tortoise shell frame, and they are round but work pretty well for my face, but it doesn’t look like they are making prescription glasses frames anymore.
I’d recommend going to a place like Warby Parker to see what kinds of frames you like. I think you can buy them online too, like try a few pairs out and send back the ones you don’t like.
my big problem with glasses is that I never ordered any from online, I’ve always gone to an optician, had my vision measured, and then picked glasses from a preplanned vibe like thin round gold frame for my last pair. This time I’m thinking big thick plastic-y in a fun but versatile color like green but when I showed my dad an inspo pic he said they wouldn’t suit me so I’m not sure because what if they really don’t and then I have to spontaneously decide on a different aesthetic and idk. I could order online but little embarrassing confession I ordered something online like once. All other times I had my dad order something for me because I don’t know how shit works and I’m a little anxious about like returns and stuff. I’m also from a small town in the middle of nowhere Germany so there’s no brand or chain stores just boutique style optometrists and they don’t always carry a full or trendy range. So yeah. But I’m gonna have to make an appointment anyways to get my vision measured so we’ll see maybe I’ll find one that’s cute in the store already.

Hi friend, thanks for your helpful posts about epilepsy! I suffer from photosensitive epilepsy, I'm on medication but I'm looking for a pair of sunglasses (or rather, clip ons). I've seen that polarized dark blue tinted lenses help with reflecting sun, water and snow. Do you (or anyone else) have any experience with it? I've heard about Zeiss Z1 (F133) but they're not availble anymore, so I'm looking for recs on similar lenses.
Hi Anon! very good question and honestly not sure if I am deep enough in the blue sunglasses game just YET, to give you a good scientific answer. It's true, there are studies that blue polarized sun-glasses can help to alleviate the effects of sun, reflections and flashing lights. I in fact have started collecting blue polarised sunglasses, but sadly i lost the first pair i bought. One thing that is important to know, which, i only learned yesterday ? is - that there is apparently a limitation in some countries to how much your sunglasses are allowed to be tinted, IF YOU ARE DRIVING! So if you happen to be able to drive, your sunglasses shouldnt have a tint above 85% in Germany. I don't know yet if this applies to other places too. The reason is, that beyond that number you won't be able to pick up on essential contrasts and signals in your driving environment. Anyways - I have been using blue polarised lenses without any prescription in the movies for the movie "Suzume" by Makoto Shinkai and honestly the lenses made the colors prettier and more soothing for me. The optician I had the chance to chat with yesterday also told me, that pink lenses can be used to alleviate migraines! (i have yet to research and test this!) On the talk about which model to get. Unless you require prescription glasses to function in every day life, I have opted as a start for the first and easiest pair I could get my hands on in a Dollarstore (the equivalent to be precise bec I'm not in the US). The one thing I made sure of when buying was, that the glasses had a label that said that they were polarised. Apparently this effect is important. Wether your lenses are polarised can be seen especially via looking at screens (e.g.. smartphone)... i can't quite explain it, but there's something funky going on there. (not in the photosensitive way but.. like the way that things look... once you know you know). Usually, polarised glasses will have a sticker or label however that specifically says that they are polarised. PS: the pair i currently use most is sadly not listed online anymore :/ I admit I do prefer the dark blue tint lenses a lot over my regular prescription sunglasses :') the prescription ones are polarised as well but they arent blue.

If it's the cost of glasses getting you down, once you have your prescription you can buy them online for super duper duper cheap!
My new ones are rainbow with a little charm that turn into sunglasses in sunlight (yay for my light sensitivity!), Blue light filter, anti reflective/glare, fingerprint resistant, etc ..... For $50. Instead of, like, $1000+ at physical eye doctor/glasses places (VisionWorks, for the most basic pair of glasses possible with no extras, would have been $300+ if I didn't have insurance through work!)
If it's the issue of weird vision when you first put them on, you just need to wear them for a few days and your eyes will adjust! No more giant lense flare effects when looking at lights; you can actually read from a distance too! And see people's faces! And see so much detail on TV shows and movies!
But yeah, I get my glasses from Firmoo, since there's lots of flash sales and wide selection, but there's also Zenni and Eyebyedirect along with a bunch of others out there!
Plus you can get custom prescription sunglasses for like. $20 ! Or do what I did and get the photo chromatic coating that turns into sunglasses automatically when exposed to uv light :)
As someone who only got 1 free pair of glasses a year growing up and when they broke, they broke.... I try to tell everyone I can about getting them online.
You deserve to see the world clearly 👓👁️🏳️‍🌈
I actually have zenni glasses! The thing is I’m too lazy to wear them :p I get migraines so I have to wear sunglasses whenever I go out so I’m already used to wearing stuff on my face but the idea of needing to swap out glasses depending on sun intensity (I know there are ones that automatically adjust but I don’t trust them to be as effective as regular sunglasses) is just exhausting to me. Pretty much everyone in my family wears glasses + I have an optometrist aunt, it’s me that’s the problem 🤪

The way ADHD medications are handled is just. Terrible for people who have ADHD.
Like, if you get physical scripts, you're telling me I have to not lose these papers? And then when I'm ready to use one, I have to go to a pharmacy in person to drop off the script?? Then come back for it later? Every time??!
Luckily I get electronic scripts now, but even so, my usual pharmacy won't let me fill the next one online. I have to call, fight with a robot operator who thinks they can help me when they cannot, and beg them to transfer me to a person. A person who I hate to bother because pharmacies are already so busy but literally a human must put in this script. And not just any human---a Qualified One.
And either way, your "fill my next script, please" window is so, so small that it cannot possibly adapt to stresses in the system. Stresses like the STIMULANT SHORTAGE that has been a very real thing for many, many months, and is supposed to continue being a thing for many more months.
By the time I have to call, I'm almost or already out.
Oh, and according to my doctor's office, the scripts are "not transferrable" where I live. Which means if my pharmacy is out, my provider has to decide if they are comfortable submitting a whole new script to a different place!! Because even if I find a location that will tell me whether they have enough of my specific medication in stock, by the time a new script gets filled, there is a very high chance that they will no longer have the meds.
And look. I know some people are very good at skipping a few days a week to stockpile. I am not, because I am lucky that my meds have very few side effects, and I enjoy being able to focus on my hobbies and chores even if I don't have any Work Obligations.
It sucks that we are even expected to stockpile!! Because the system doesn't allow for enough flexibility to at least try and work around system issues!! No one would expect me to not wear my fuckin glasses a few times a week. No one would say "well, we're having a lot of issues with glasses prescriptions, so just take a few days off when you don't need to see until we get more in stock."
...Okay, so the analogy falls apart a bit, but if glasses were single use and regulated out the wazoo...you get the point. My meds are like my brain glasses! Brain glasses I already have to overcome executive dysfunction, time blindness, and social anxiety to get on a good day.
And now many of us are just expected to bumble around without them for months and months because our "what if you're an evil trickster prentending you need glasses 😠" system is so inflexible.
Here's hoping if it doesn't work out now, I'll be able to fucking see again in spring rather than the summer.

a Tag Game Tuesday: The MySpace Survey ⭐️
I was tagged by @salesmain!! :D This looks like so much fun, thank you!!
Answers beneath the read more!
what’s your name? I don't really want to share my actual name, but I go by Icy online :) <3
your sun sign: Capricorn
the last song you listened to: Healing Termina by Theophany - I just put Spotify on shuffle while writing lol
what are you wearing right now? My pjs bc I should be sleeping BUT
how tall are you?  5'3" (RIP to me)
piercings? Lobe piercings and a conch piercing in my right ear! I used to have two helix studs but I got them right before the pandemic and the straps on my masks irritated them so much that they never fully healed ;w; I had to call it after 2 years of them not healing, and maybe one day I'll get them re-pierced
tattoos? Yes! I'm addicted! I have a sunflower/bee tattoo, a flower, a demon-fox, and sprigs of lavender on my left arm - I'm trying to fill out that arm as my budget allows
glasses? contacts? I am,,,, so blind. I wear glasses and I need to update my prescription because I've let it go so long that I probably shouldn't be driving when its dark
last drink? Chamomile lavender tea to hopefully make me sleepyyy
last thing you ate? Spanish curry rice with beef and spinch
favourite colour? This one's hard for me, but I'll say Dreadwolf purple bc it's on brand and I do genuinely love it
any pets? I have two cats! Starbucks is a black cat (and if you're following me on my main blog, he's my pfp!), and he's a senior cat who just loves cuddles and food. We joke that I'm his Emotional Support Human because he loves being where I am and will smother me if given half a chance. Our other cat, Shoresy, is a tuxedo kitty and he's so full of love and also so full of fear ;w; He will come trotting over for cuddles but he's also very skiddish.
do you have a crush on anyone? YEGH it's my husband XD
favourite fictional character?  I, um. I have this brain disease, you see. It makes me incredibly and irrationally attached to a sentient egg named Solas and I'm legally obligated financial compensation from BioWare for emotional damage.
a movie you think everyone should watch: Secondhand Lions - this movie wrecks me every time because it's about coming of age and found family and grumpy old men who found themselves with a kid they didn't want but ended up loving anyway. Takes me out every time.
a book you think everyone should read: It's not really a book, but it's a play. Cyrano de Bergerac. In hindsight, I seem to have a thing for witty, tragic men who don't think they're worth anything :')
the last place you traveled: Boston! I had my first lobster roll and I went to heaven.
something you’re looking forward to: whenever I'm able to get more than five hours of sleep hhhhhhh
I tag @beastofmoss, @transprincecaspian and @vahingoniloinenlapsi if you feel like you would like to do this! :D

Thess vs Extreme Wealth
I was a kid in the 80s. I remember that time when wanting to be rich was about status symbols and flaunting one’s wealth. And, I mean, I’m sure there are some people out there who still see it that way - who want the big house, the fancy car, the unfeasibly gaudy deco, stuff like that. The sad thing is, though, that I think most of us my age or younger, if we want to be ‘rich’ at all, only want it because it would provide us a halfway decent quality of life.
Yes, I want bespoke tailored clothes. However, the status has nothing to do with it; I just want things that actually fit me, instead of being manufactured in a way that doesn’t really fit anybody except for one very specific body type, which I am decidedly not. I also want things made of decent materials so they don’t dissolve in the wash after about a month.
Yes, I want to pay someone to clean my living space. Again, though, status has nothing to do with it; it’s all about the disability. I just want things to still be clean even if I’m having a succession of bad pain days. I also want to pay someone to drive me places (though probably just taxis rather than owning a car or chauffeur), because public transport is a nightmare and I don’t trust my ability to drive a car any distance even with power steering. Pain, fatigue, and a chance of fibro fog probably doesn’t mesh overly well with any amount of traffic.
On the subject of disability, yes, I want to be able to afford to travel first or at least business class if I want or need to travel by air. Again, nothing to do with the status. I just want a seat I can stretch out in when I need to, because I’ve spent my life travelling in coach and it was uncomfortable enough before the fibromyalgia. Now that I need to change position fairly often because getting stiff means extra mega ultra pain, I can’t imagine flying coach and being capable of anything but curling up and crying on the other end.
I don’t want a big house; it’d be hell to move around in anyway. I want a flat not dissimilar to the one I’m in now. Maybe one other room, so I could have a guest room and a study / craft room. With a bigger balcony for more plants, and hopefully not north-facing so those plants could get more light. Also a decent-sized kitchen - not huge, just not smaller than the actual bathroom. Preferably pet friendly, since I’d be able to afford pet insurance. I just don’t want it to be in this country. Politics aside, it’s damn near impossible to find a pet-friendly flat or a decent-sized kitchen in this country unless you want a house, and sometimes not even then.
I mean, when you think about it, this is more or less basic stuff. Disability accommodation, decent clothes (because almost nothing we buy off the rack comes under that definition any more), a few small quality of life bits and pieces. I want to be able to grocery shop without panic attacks. I want to be able to just get a haircut when I decide I need one, not look at it and go, “Eh, I don’t look too much like a briard yet; it’ll keep another month”. I want to be able to get my eyes tested when I notice I’m having trouble focusing on fine print again, and not panic about the cost of the glasses. (Yeah, eye tests only cost £20-25, but it’s still a cost, and the optician generally pushes you to buy glasses from them, and I’m currently working on pushing back my anxiety to tell the optician, “I’d just like the prescription, please” so I can go to one of those places where you can get your glasses online for cheaper ... which is a whole other set of anxieties but never mind; I’m just not getting my mother to pay for the damn things again.) Hell, I want spare glasses.
The worst part is that things like this only seem possible these days if you’re really wealthy. Or maybe my view of what ‘wealthy’ means has changed. Because, I mean, if I was really wealthy? Like, lottery money wealthy? I’d have all of the above. My closest friends would not have debt or mortgages. I have charity-related ideas. I sure as hell wouldn’t just sit on it, or spend money on solid gold bathroom fixtures. I’d rather buy a painting from an artist just starting out than blow millions on a painting that will only further enrich an already rich person because the artist is already dead, just because it’s some kind of status symbol to be wealthy enough to afford it.
I guess the difference is that for me, money is a thing to use and circulate, to provide for people who are providing me goods and services. It’s not a way of keeping score. So I don’t get having more money than you can personally use and tucking it away so it generates more money by sitting there, instead of using what you can’t use for yourself to help others. Then again, given that we’ve established that having enough money to have some reasonable quality of life is a pipe dream for most of us, it’s probably not a surprise that I find the concept hard to grasp.

Note
idk if this is relevant or helpful to you but at least in my case if you can get your old prescription from the doctor- just like the numbers, including PD if it was taken- then you can order glasses online from glassesUSA or zenni and they have pretty cheap pairs. like $30 for a basic prescription and no add ons. feel free to ignore if this doesn’t apply to you but I totally relate to the optometrist struggle
Honestly this probably would be the best option but when i was on the phone call after i heard that i basicslly couldnt get anything until after my insurance ends i went into panic mode and didnt think about it until after i got off the phone lmaoooo. i've got an appointment at a different place next saturday which will work out its just inconvenient
