Ending 2023 on a high after a long, stressful Christmas week. We ended up staying at Matt's parents' from Christmas Eve through to yesterday bc they only live 5 mins from the nursing home where his grandma was dying. So we went to sit with her every day to look through old pictures, talk about her favourite memories, and towards the end just to keep her company and hold her hand because she was too exhausted to do anything or even speak. It was so sad and the one thing she said was that she just wanted to drift away peacefully so it was awful to see her distressed and uncomfortable for almost a week as she deteriorated. But I think it meant a lot to her that we were all there at some point every day just so she wasn't alone. She died the 28th so we spent the 29th with his family and tbh everyone was just so relieved she wasn't in pain any more. And because they knew it was coming they had already come to terms with it. So it kind of felt like a peaceful day rather than grieving. We all just relaxed, I just sat around reading my book all day bc I had been doing as much housework at our house as I could to avoid us coming home to an actual bomb site, and also at his parents' so they didn't have to do it after spending 8 hours at a time at the home. We came home last night to have one night together in our own home with our shiny new TV that all Matt's brothers chipped in for us for Christmas bc our old one was really on its last legs. Matt was working a late shift at the hospital so I spent all night unpacking, doing laundry and cleaning to get the house straightened up a bit.

Today though, we had a lie in together (got up at 8.30!!) and woke up to a gorgeous sunny day so we both took Mags out for a lovely long walk. Had lunch and a cuddle on the couch, then Matt went up to do some uni work before we go to his brother's for NYE tonight with the rest of the family. I did more housework and then finally got to work out - I've been craving exercise all week but had an awful period and walking Mags for 20 minutes at a time was painful enough, and obvs we were spending as much time with family as we could. Despite everything, we did actually have a lovely Christmas Day. Just my dad was a dick both times I saw him over the holidays which is exactly what I expected therefore not worth getting upset about.

Anyway, it felt great to have a more normal day today and to get a proper workout. I did legs - strength followed by 25 mins on the bike which I'm just finishing up as I'm typing bc I need to go get ready for tonight.

In Out Of The Furnace, the specifics of Woody Harrelson's character and his scene were a bit random, though - i'm glad they'd edited out the more direct (and obviously misleading) references to the Ramapough Lenape Nation in the version I saw. (Except the surnames that 'happen to be' very common among the nation.)

it seems that part was unfortunately partly inspired by some racist made up stories in a real life murder case (an unarmed Ramapough tribe member killed by a park ranger) - check out the New Yorker article Fiction in the Ramapos by Ben McGrath.

I probably wouldn't have noticed those details at all if I hadn't read trivia about the movie - in the edited version post-lawsuit they are just an unspecified group of people from the Jersey Appalachians, which is all they need to be.

And it's not the point that those people would be 'bad' compared to other characters that would be 'good'.

The message is that everybody is fucked anyway - the different characters are just on different points in a spectrum of "trying to not fuck others <--> going all out on fucking others, too", to try to get ahead, to get justice, or just to survive, and failing nonetheless, because they're all fucked by forces far greater (class society, capitalism and the military-industrial complex basically!). :(

I’d really like to talk about malevolent but I’m not always that great at getting my thoughts written down into messages, so here goes:

I really liked your views on the KIY cult-backstory for Arthur, and I was wondering if you thought that Daniel was somehow mixed up in it as well? Because we know that he’s part of the Freemasons in New York and it’s been mentioned that the Order of the Fallen Star may have some members there as well. Since we don’t know the exact role the OotFS play yet in the story, do you think they could be the ones who originally tried to summon/contain the KIY back near the lighthouse (and therefore may tie into your theory)?

so i dont think the order of the fallen star is the same, i initially thought it was kayne's cult. because of course he'd task john to make arthur bring HIM into our world.

regarding daniel and the freemasons, i have another crack theory that they, the freemasons, the order and the kiy cult, if they are all separate, then they are rivaling factions trying to bring their respective god(s) into our reality.

but your suggestion is making me think now, because i've been trying to figure out WHAT the fallen star is? could it be john, the heart, the missing piece of the king, the fallen star from the constellation of the king in yellow? could john have always been somewhat unattached from the king, being something separate that resided in him?

admittedly there have been no references nor symbolism regarding stars in canon (rip my stars john/butterfly arthur agenda hskabdhb) but that would tie nicely into my other other crack theory: arthur and john are the same person in different times. ok hear me out on this one.

malevolent seems to be a story about self-love, ultimately. and arthur, in the show, is said to be the very worst and best humanity has to offer. but harlan, in his asks, seems adamant of arthur's inherent goodness and john's evilness (because he's a ''monster'') but what if arthur at some point makes a sacrifice, because john has been returned to the kiy.

as he was intended too, being groomed by the cult, he tries becoming a vessel of kiy, but somehow instead he become part of him, john's part, the heart. they become one, they become the fallen star. and since eldritch being don't obey the laws of time, john from before he met arthur also has some arthur in him allowing him to become john in the first place and so the madness in arthur is also caused by john.

now this causes weird time shenanigans and i'm not sure if this w.bg effect on me but idk if the show will go in this direction.

anyways sorry, i gave you something completely unrelated from what you asked but hey at least this is a thinly veiled answer-in-a-trench-coat?

I’m sure you’re busy with writing ppm ootf, but if you would be able to take requests eventually it would be amazing if you could write a fix it where scrooge and Isabel initially work things out and are able to have a life together when they were younger, this is just an idea but if not it’s all good! Hope you have a nice day!

I absolutely would LOVE to take requests! I currently have a lot of plans for PPM OoTF with another big Scrooge story in the works with co-writers! (no idea if we'll post it on Ao3, but we'll see how it goes).

So yes, I do take requests! Especially any related to PPM OoTF! Some Isabenezer fluff would be adorable!
