Remus Lupin x Sirius Sister!Fem!Reader
Summary: Remus has an unbearable crush on his best friend's sister. “he was sure he was bound to her every life he’s lived, and he’ll look for her in every life from now on, because in this life he just got blessed with her.”

As the late spring breeze sweeped into the open windows of the library Remus couldn't help but notice the way her hair moved with it, at least the little ones that weren't braided, the two brunette braids sat nicely on her shoulders dressed with her uniform and her house’s robes, she was too focused on her essay to even notice the small disturbance on her scalp, eyebrows furrowed, quill fiercely working on her paper sheet, Remus couldn't look but he was sure she was bouncing her left leg.
´Stop gawking at my sister, moony. I'm sure if you go say hi, she'll be more than pleased.´ As soon as Sirius words reached remus ears he couldn't help but groan, his best mate Sirius Black always had a way to annoy him, ‘I was not gawking at your sister’,Remus blushed slightly, he was indeed staring profusely at his sister, he always was, if she was in a room he’d know, and somehow he’d find a way to be near her, like a moth attracted to the shining lights. ‘Alright, but mate you can’t deny the way you look at her, can’t really blame you she’s a Black, not me, but a Black’ the one to groan now was James ‘We are not talking about you, pads, we need to find a way to match you and y/n together!’ ‘While I agree you should get it together Moons, let’s not let prongs play matchmaker, he’s awful.’ Peter chips in little in conversations, but his rare voice of reason it’s always needed. Now an overwhelmed Remus tries to end the weird conversation surrounding his life, ‘Guys do not, I was just thinking, not staring at anyone. We need to focus on our homework’ ‘Cut the crap moony, you’re obsessed with my sister.’ 
Remus would’ve never expected the outcome of a studying sesion with his friends to end up in them making a plan for him to snog a girl. As he was starting to get really  annoyed with them he looked up and made eye contact with the live image of his dreams, Y/n Black. His face failed him, he started smiling like a fool, surprisingly (not really, you’ve talked a lot of times, you would consider each other acquaintances) you smiled back and waved quickly returning to your work. ‘Moony! pay attention!’ you’d never know James was this bosy unless you’re coming up with stupid plans or pranks, ‘You know what? I’m getting tired of you, I came here to study and get some work done, not to make a stupid plan’ his three friends looked around sheepishly, ‘Sorry mate, we’re just trying to hook you up with my sister, maybe i could get a favour in return’ Sirius says as he winks pointing at his homework, ‘Do whatever you want, i don’t care, I’ll go study somewhere else’ kinda annoyed kinda mad Remus picks up his things as he heads for the door. ‘And don’t pimp out your siblings,Sirius’.
The annoying breeze was making y/n more cold than normal, she could barely focus on her essay for professor Flitwick, she could’ve stayed in her common room with her friends, but no damn her heart, she came to the library to follow her stupid heart, to see her stupid crush and to have to bear with her stupid brother who was most likely mocking her, after all she was a schoolgirl with a crush on her older (barely a year) brother´s mate, pathetic, that’s how she felt, she was pathetically sitting alone on the library, pathetic was the way her heart skipped a beat when he smiled at her, pathetic was the way he didn’t wave back. She was done embarrassing herself, as she started gathering her stuff to finally go cry it out in her bed, a small voice interrupted her hate thoughts. ‘All done?’ honey slipped out of Remus's mouth whenever he talked, she was sure of it, ‘Mmh not really, was getting a bit chilly, though, did you finish your homework with the guys?’ barely getting it out, fighting the urge to gauge her eyes out of embarrassment. She has talked with many times before, not much lately, her crush on him has been growing bigger and bigger until it smashes her frontal cortex completely.
Remus’s hands were clammy, there he stood awkwardly, desperately trying not to faint at the sight of her soft gray eyes, the confidence he quickly got to go talk to her, quickly left, ‘No, they’re daft, not really the ones to help with getting homework done’, she giggled, she didn’t really find it funny, she’s just nervous, ‘do you wanna finish your essay as I finish my homework?’ Remus cursed himself, why? why? why? his whole brain seemed to be jell-o when she’s near him, ‘well I don’t think there’s more I can do, but maybe…’ the confidence facade crumbling down, ‘maybe what?’ ‘maybe we could hang out, catch up, we haven’t really talked in a while’ that was mostly true, they were always kind of close, they used to hang out a lot actually, but since their feelings took over them, they’ve been less close than normal. ‘yes!’ he barely allowed her the chance to finish the sentence, he almost regretted it, until she blessed him with her blinding smile, he would give anything to see her wide smile every day of his life, she held her hand out for him to grab, ‘Let’s go, Rem’.
Her (hand) was the most precious thing Remus Lupin has ever held and will ever hold, following her blindly, letting her take him wherever she wanted, all he could do was look at her and wonder how did the sun managed to take human form, he was sure he was bound to her every life he’s lived, and he’ll look for her in every life from now on, because in this life he just got blessed with her. Heart racing, flushed cheeks from both of them, she kept stealing little glances at him to check if he was still there. he was. When Remus was busy imagining what it would be like to spend a lifetime with her, she stopped, the courtyard, that’s where they were, not in their shared apartment with four cats and thirty, and he was so happy she wasn’t a legilimens.

The bold red and gold letters were unbearably obnoxious- something like this had Gryffindor written all over it. The bright colours were in stark contrast with the dark greens and black tones of the Slytherin common room. You didn't even have to walk up to the noticeboard to read the massive words plastered across.
'INTER-HOUSE PARTY
WHERE : gryffindor common room
WHEN : friday
TIME : 10 PM
(any snitches will be hexed- courtesy of Sirius Black)
You scoffed at the last part, looking around. no-one seemed to be particularly interested and neither were you.
Upon closer look, you saw rips and tears on the sides of the poster. Whoever had placed it there must have used a permanent sticking charm to prevent anyone from taking it down.
You left the room, rolling your eyes.
On the way to detention you stared aimlessly at your feet whilst you walked, completely submerged in your thoughts. A certain gryffindor boy weaseled his way into your mind. Sirius Black- the reason that you were currently headed to Filch's office on a day when you could be doing Charms homework, or spending time with your friends instead.
So when you felt a hand on your shoulder you spun around so suddenly you almost tripped over your feet. Two strong arms held you steady, as you met a familiar pair of green eyes.
"James?" You asked quizzically, glancing around to see if anyone was looking, "What happened to making sure no one saw us together?"
Still chuckling at how startled you had been, he quickly ushered you into a broom cupboard. You were fairly certain a second year had witnessed the two of you do so.
After the amused look on his face had finally faded away, the both of you just stared at eachother awkwardly. Just as you were about to ask why he was making you late to detention, James took a deep breath.
"I have feelings for Lily." He blurted out.
You weren't sure what you'd been expecting him to say, but it definitely wasn't that. You stared at him for a second, confused about the momentary wave of relief that washed over you.
James looked at you uncertainly, unsure of how you'd react. You'd suspected for a while. A long time, actually. And James' feelings for Lily Evans simply didn't bother you. Perhaps because you had known your time together was coming to an end anyway; the passion the two of you used to have was gradually ebbing away. The boy opposite you jumped as you began to speak, knocking the dusty cleansweep by his arm onto the floor with a loud clatter.
"Cool." You shrugged, "It was fun while it lasted Potter." And you left, leaving James in the dark with a pleasantly surprised look on his face.
It contorted into one of shock as Remus slipped in not even seconds after you'd left.
He looked sickly pale. His footsteps were small, and he moved slowly.
"Erm.." James sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck, "Shouldn't you be resting, Moony?"
But Remus ignored him, "(Y/n)? Really? Out of all people- the one person your best friend despises?" Despite his weakened state, Remus defiantly crossed his arms, "Don't you think he deserves to know?" But James had already stepped out of the cupboard, and was lingering by the open door.
He gestured to his friend's frail figure, "You need to be resting, it isn't healthy for you to be up, especially not when it's almost time." He paused, "And anyways, it's over." James shrugged, "It was just a fling, and now we're going our separate ways."
"Are you sure Sirius will see it that way?" Remus inquired knowingly, but James had already left.
"Your wand, (L/n)." Filch snapped, snatching it the second you pulled it out of your robes. You raised a hand towards the doorknob hesitantly, the grime on it so thick that what you imagined had used to be a shimmering gold, was now a dull grey.
Filch glared, "What're you waiting for then?"
The caretaker's threatening glare encouraged you to open the door and enter. Filch immediately closed the door behind you. As you grudgingly looked around the room, it became clear that it must've been used for storage. Boxes were stacked up the walls, the air was stale, and the only source of light came from the full-moon which illuminatined the room through a large, floor length window opposite.
You groaned, checking the likely broken clock on the wall. Black was late, which wasn't suprising, but you knew that to clean this place without magic you'd need an extra pair of hands.
Heading to the moudly cardboard box closest to the door, you opened it up, coughing as dust billowed in your face. The contents seemed to be random trinkets that didn't have any practical function. Great, you thought to yourself, setting to work.
An hour passed. 9 pm. Black still hadn't turned up.
As time slipped by, not only had you finally realised that Black wasn't going to come, but also that Filch had locked you in.
The room was pitch black by the time Filch opened the door. Mrs Norris stalked inside as Filch took a look around, candle held high. Once he was satisfied with the cleanliness of the room he gestured for you to leave, reluctantly handing back your wand as you did so.
The hallways were dark and quiet. Even the portraits' inhabitants were asleep as you headed back to the Slytherin common room. You were exhausted, covered in dust and grime with aching limbs, but only one thing was on your mind.
The fact that Black had bunked that definition made you almost shake in anger. It was now midnight. You had spent four hours cleaning that room, and the person who had gotten you into the situation couldn't even be bothered to show up. Engulfed in spite and bitterness, you didn't notice the person ahead until you crashed into them.
"Sorry." You grumbled, prepared to walk past when you suddenly realised who it was.
"(L/n)?" Sirius Black stuttered in shock, as your wide eyes took in his appearance.
His hair was matted, and stuck to the sweat beaded on his forehead. A deep gash was just above his cheekbone; red glittered his face.
You stumbled backwards, hand shakily rising to your mouth, "Oh-- oh my god--"
Black looked at a loss for words, "I-- uh--"
"We've got to take you to Madam Pomfrey," you stated urgently, all previous anger dissipated in an instant, "you stay here, I'll go get--"
"No!" Black snapped, causing you to jump. His eyes were bloodshot, and were full of such a desperation that you had never seen before. Then, in a much more subdued and pleading tone, "She can't--" He rubbed his forehead, and you noticed his hands were coated in blood, "--no one can know."
You hesitated.
"No one." He emphasised, still tense, unsure whether you'd make a run for it or not.
Shaking your head in disbelief, your mind snapped into action, "Fine. Come with me."
Taking his elbow, you began to lead him away.
"(L/n) I don't have the time--"
You stopped so abruptly that Black crashed into your back.
"Listen to me," You faced him, eyes practically blazing, "You are going to come with me, and I am going to help you because I swear to god I refuse to be the one responsible if you're discovered tomorrow morning dead." Your breathing was heavy with adrenaline as he stared back at you silently.
"Okay?!" You snapped without meeting his eyes, immediately beginning to tug him again.
"Okay!" He said exasperatedly, "but it won't help if you tear my bloody arm off!"
"I ought to do just that after you left me in a four hour detention to clean up some disgusting room by myself." Ignoring his protests and unsympathetic apologies, you pulled him inside a room you often frequented, but with a different boy.
"Is this the prefect's bathroom?" Black raised an eyebrow as you pushed him down onto the toilet seat. Ever since you and James started having regular meet-ups, he had given you the password to enter the Prefect's Bathrooms. Apparently it hadn't been changed yet.
You nodded, quickly wetting a tissue and wiping off the blood from his face before taking out your wand. Black sank into silence as you worked, but his pained expression and sharp intakes of breath whenever you dabbed at a cut didn't escape your notice.
Brushing aside a few strands of hair stuck to his forehead, you murmured "Episkey!"
And the gash on his cheekbone quickly closed up.
"Where'd you learn that?" Black asked in awe, absentmindedly running a hair through his thick hair.
"Just because you don't pay attention during Charms doesn't mean everyone else doesn't." You stated, looking up briefly from rolling up his trouser. He had leaned back with a wolfish grin on his face, and you briefly revelled in how someone could look so handsome so effortlessly, before snapping back to your senses.
"Immature prick." You sighed, moving your hands down to the bottom of his shirt. It was soaked in blood. Peeling it up cautiously, you bit the inside of your cheek as you saw the wounds littering his abdomen.
"Didn't realise you were so eager to undress me," He smirked, as you instantly withdrew your hands in disgust.
"Can you not give it a rest for one second ?!" You snapped.
From then on he stayed silent, opting instead to rest his head against the cold wall and close his eyes. You began to murmur charms, working on each open wound until most of them were gone. The deeper ones would inevitably scar. His smooth skin felt warm against your fingers, and you observed how his muscles tensed whenever you accidentally brushed against them.
You began to wish you hadn't said anything.
After a few more anxious minutes, you sat back. There would definitely be some bruises the next day, but without a professional healer there was really nothing that could be done.
The silence was so prominent between the two of you, and your thoughts so loud, that you began to wonder whether he in fact could hear them. But Black made no semblance of opening his eyes or moving, and you wondered whether he really had fallen asleep. You cleared your throat to let him know you'd finished.
His dark eyes fluttered open, and you stared at the bruises forming under his eyes. Without much thought, you lifted your fingertips and brushed his right eyelid. Whatever had happened, it was no normal courtyard fight. These injuries had to be supernatural.
"I'm sorry." You whispered finally, fingers dropping as you began to tap them against the cold tiles on the floor.
He stared intensely, and you struggled not to squirm.
"I don't mind it when you touch me." He said bluntly, causing you to get flustered.
"No-- I meant--"
Sirius Black looked as though he could laugh, causing you to descend into an ashamed silence as he spoke, "Oh about yesterday? I deserved it I--"
"--about what happened at the Malfoy's." You interrupted, finally making eye contact, "I didn't know."
He stayed silent, but Sirius' grey eyes resembled a storm, the emotion so prevalent you found yourself lost in in them. His eyes bore into yours as you sat there, with bated breath, unsure whether he understood to what you were referring.
"I judged you. Unfairly. Just like Elizabeth did to Darcy..." You trailed off, cringing at what you had just said- internal monologue was internal for a reason.
Besides, he had likely forgotten and was probably wondering if you'd had too much pumpkin juice to drink during lunch.
You attempted to salvage your apology, "At the Chrismas ball, in the--""
"--in the broom cupboard." He almost smiled, eyes twinkling as he remembered your first proper encounter. As though it was a happy memory shared between two childhood friends.
"I'm sorry." You repeated, and he smiled so broadly, radiantly, that you couldn't help but blush, cheeks aching as you both began to laugh.
Everything seemed to shift. Much to the majority of Hogwarts' students' shock, you and Sirius began to be civil to one another. You exchanged smiles when passing in the corridor, you laughed when he pulled a prank in class, you even walked to Potions with him at the beginning of third period the following day. People couldn't seem to believe that a Gryffindor and a Slytherin who had despised eachother for years had suddenly begun to exchange niceties.
When Friday finally came around, Serafina couldn't contain her suspicions. Fully aware of what the gossips in Hogwarts could be like, she hadn't wanted to offend you by believing the talk of the school. You hadn't yet told her about what had happened that day - only about you and James breaking it off - and so she was desperate to know what had changed between you and Sirius.
Eyes practically shining as the two of you sat underneath the large oak tree in the courtyard, you started to explain everything that had happened when Sera cleared her throat. Her eyes were focused curiously on something behind you.
Turning around, you grinned as you saw Sirius nearing you.
You waved as he stopped roughly a metre away from you. He didn't return it.
Lowering your hand slowly, you noticed something had changed in his demeanour.
All of a sudden James was at his side, out of breath as though he had been running, eyes wide in...
fear?
"Don't do this mate," He began to beg uselessly, as you glanced around in confusion, students had begun to gather around, "She didn't--"
"Tell me." He began in a low voice, as James looked at anywhere but you, "for how long exactly you've been fucking my best friend."

On the 22nd of November you sit on the floor of your office late at night, watching the flames of your fireplace crackle and pop. Beside you, sits Harry, eyes focused on the fire as well. Sirius had asked him to wait in front of the fire in your office at one o'clock and for you to be there too. You can't say your heart isn't beating faster than the steady tick of the clock on the wall, worried and giddy at the same time.
"I'm sorry about this whole situation, Harry," you say with a sigh, reaching out to stroke Dubh's fur idly as she clambers into your lap. "I know this isn't what you want. I tried everything to get them to change the rules but nothing worked."
"Thanks," he says blankly, like he's used to being disappointed.
"And that article in the paper — "
"I didn't say anything of that. It's a lie," Harry responds quickly.
You nod. "I'm well aware. Rita Skeeter is...difficult." As soon as the words have left your mouth, you grimace, shaking your head. "Actually, she doesn't deserve that nicety. She's a bitch, Harry. A nasty old hag that has nothing better to do with her life than spread rumours and sensationalise everything in sight."
Harry seems slightly taken aback by your words but nods in fierce agreement nonetheless.
"My best advice to you, Harry, is to run for the hills every time you see her — or just wave me over if I'm near. I am well accustomed to small talk with people like her — the trick is to just get them talking about themselves."
He nods. "I don't plan on going anywhere near her ever again."
"Smart decision," you say, sighing. "And look — I know I'm not supposed to get involved but if you need any help whatsoever, just ask. There's plenty of useful spells I can teach you and tips I can give — anything at all."
Just then, the flames move in a peculiar fashion and Sirius' head appears in the fire. Both you and Harry let out a small gasp, and when you look at Harry, his face has broken into the biggest smile you've seen him wear in weeks.
"Sirius!" Harry exclaims immediately.
He looks different from the last time you seen him. His face had looked gaunt and sunken, but now he looks far healthier and his hair, which was long, matted and greasy, is now clean and neat. You're glad to see that though he's trimmed it a tad, he's kept the beard. He looks younger.
"Hello, Harry," he says, before he turns to you, smiling, "and hello to you too, love."
You bring your hand up and give him a tiny little wave, unable to stop the giddy smile taking over your face at the sight of him.
"How're you doing?" Harry asks.
"Never mind me, how are you?" Sirius asks firmly, returning his attention to his godson.
"I'm — " Harry stops himself suddenly, holding himself back. Just when you're about to check if he's alright, he spills. He tells the two of you everything: about how no one believes that he hasn't entered himself into the tournament, how Rita Skeeter had lied about him in the Daily Prophet, how he can't walk down a corridor without getting sneered at, and about the toll it's all taken on his friendship with Ron.
You feel your heart ache for him. He deserves absolutely none of this and you wish you could do more to help.
"Hagrid's just shown me what's coming in the first task, and it's dragons — I'm a goner," he finishes desperately.
Sirius is looking at Harry with deep concern as he says, "Dragons we can deal with, Harry, but we'll get to that in a minute — I haven't got long here...I've broken into a wizarding house to use the fire, but they could be back at any time. There are things I need to warn you about."
"Just break into Moony's house next time," you say simply, shrugging. "Sounds much easier to me."
Sirius gives you a look that suggests he already thought of that, but obviously decided not to as he was already coming north to see you two. You smile cheekily at him and he shakes his head, refocusing his attention on Harry.
"What do you need to warn me about?" Harry asks.
"Karkaroff," Sirius says. "Harry, he was a Death Eater. You know what Death Eaters are, don't you?"
"He's a Death Eater?" You're shocked. Just this morning you picked his fork off the ground for him at breakfast!
"He was caught, he was in Azkaban with me, but he got released. I'd bet that's why Dumbledore wanted an Auror at Hogwarts this year — to keep an eye on him. Moody caught Karkaroff. Put him into Azkaban in the first place."
There already is an Auror at Hogwarts, you think. Or did Dumbly-dorr just forget about me?
"Karkaroff got released?" Harry says slowly. "Why did they release him?"
"He did a deal with the Ministry of Magic," Sirius replies bitterly. "He said he'd seen the error of his ways, and then named names...he put a load of other people into Azkaban in his place...he's not very popular there, I can tell you. And since he got out, from what I can tell, he's been teaching the Dark Arts to every student who passes through that school of his. So watch out for the Durmstrang champion as well."
How do you not remember any of this? Surely you'd have seen this all mentioned in the papers around that time?
"Okay..." Harry says. "But...are you saying that Karkaroff put my name in the goblet? Because if he did, he's a really good actor. He seemed furious about it. He wanted to stop me from competing."
"We know he's a good actor," says Sirius, "because he convinced the Ministry of Magic to set him free, didn't he? Now, I've been keeping an eye on the Daily Prophet, Harry — "
"You and the rest of the world," he says bitterly.
"— and reading between the lines of that Skeeter woman's article last month, Moody was attacked the night before he started at Hogwarts. Yes, I know she says it was another false alarm," Sirius says hastily, seeing Harry about to speak, "but I don't think so somehow. I think someone tried to stop him from getting to Hogwarts. I think someone knew their job would be a lot more difficult with him around. And no one's going to look into it too closely; Mad-Eye's heard intruders a bit too often. But that doesn't mean he still can't spot the real thing. Moody was the best Auror the Ministry ever had."
"So...what are you saying? Karkaroff's trying to kill me? But — why?"
Sirius hesitates.
"I've been hearing some very strange things," he says apprehensively. "The Death Eaters seem to be a bit more active than usual lately. They showed themselves at the Quidditch World Cup, didn't they? Someone cast the Dark Mark...and then — did you hear about that Ministry witch who's gone missing?"
"Bertha Jorkins?" You say. You recall reading that article about her disappearance not too long ago.
"Exactly...she disappeared to Albania, and that's definitely where Voldemort was rumoured to be last...and she would have known the Triwizard Tournament was coming up, wouldn't she?"
"Yeah, but...it's not very likely she'd have walked straight into Voldemort, is it?" says Harry.
"I wouldn't be too sure about that," Sirius says grimly, glancing at you. "Do you remember her at school?"
You nod your head. "She was at Hogwarts when we were, a few years above us," you explain to Harry. "As thick as a board, she was. Very nosey, too. Awful combination."
"Makes her easy to lure into a trap," Sirius finishes.
"So...so Voldemort could have found out about the tournament?" says Harry. "Is that what you mean? You think Karkaroff might be here on his orders?"
"I don’t know," Sirius says with a shake of his head, "I just don’t know...Karkaroff doesn’t strike me as the type who’d go back to Voldemort unless he knew Voldemort was powerful enough to protect him. But whoever put your name in that goblet did it for a reason, and I can’t help thinking the tournament would be a very good way to attack you and make it look like an accident."
"Looks like a really good plan from where I’m standing." Harry grins bleakly. "They'll just have to stand back and let the dragons do their stuff."
"You'll be fine," you reassure firmly, though you're not sure if it's for Harry's sake or your own. "I'll be there, all the rest of the teachers will be there, and there'll be that group of dragon keepers there too."
"Look, about these dragons," Sirius says, speaking quickly now, glancing around him furtively, "There's a way, Harry. Don't be tempted to try and simple Stunning Spell — dragons are too strong and powerfully magical to be knocked out by a single stunner, you need about half a dozen wizards at a time to overcome a dragon — "
"Yeah, I know, I just saw," Harry says.
"But you can do it alone," Sirius tells him, looking him straight in the eye. "There is a way, a simple spell's all you need — "
Knock-knock.
At once, all three of you go dead silent and whip your heads to the closed door.
"Go, Sirius, quickly!" You hiss at him urgently.
You scramble to your feet, grabbing Harry's invisibilty cloak off the desk and launching it at him.
"Quick!"
Harry frantically pulls the cloak over his head and ducks behind your desk as you make you way over to the door, glancing back at the fireplace to see that Sirius' head has disappeared and the flames have returned to normal. You feel a small pang in your heart.
Who could possibly be knocking at your door at one o'clock in the morning? Surely everyone is asleep by now?
You pull the door open and are met with nothing but the quiet, dark corridor.
"Must've been Peeves," you mutter angrily, moving to close the door. Of course that poltergeist would find a way to cut your time with Sirius short.
"Oh, no, mistress, it is Bitsy!"
You look down in search of the voice and sure enough, at the foot of your door, is Bitsy, grinning up widely at you with her ginormous eyes reflecting the flickering light of the candles on the wall. You notice that she's holding a tray of scones in her tiny hands.
"Bitsy?" You say in shock and confusion. "What are you doing here? Is everything alright?"
"Bitsy was cleaning this corridor, mistress, and heard talking coming from mistress's office! And Bitsy thinks 'why is mistress up so late talking?' Perhaps she has a guest and is very hungry! Mistress was not at breakfast this morning, and I isn't seeing mistress in the kitchens either!"
While part of you feels angry and cheated that she's just interrupted your seldom chance to talk to your husband, you can't be mad at Bitsy and her big kind heart.
You chuckle softly. "Oh, Bitsy. You are far too kind to me. You're right, I didn't attend breakfast this morning nor did I go to the kitchens in the afternoon — I had breakfast with a friend of mine in Hogsmeade today. I should have told you."
Bitsy beams at you and holds the tray out for you to take. "Bitsy is glad to know you did not go hungry this morning. For you, mistress!"
You accept the tray with a smile. "Thank you, Bitsy. You are very kind — let me go fetch something to give you as a thank you."
"Oh, no, mistress! I cannot accept anything from you, I is just doing my duty!"
You leave her momentarily, placing the tray of scones down, grabbing a box off your desk and returning to hand it to her. "Film, for your camera, Bitsy. So you can take more pictures. "
You don't miss the gleeful smile that spreads over Bitsy's face as she looks at the box in wonder. "Mistress, I must not — "
"I insist, Bitsy. Actually — I order you to accept the film. I know how much you love your camera," you tell her, pushing it into her hands.
"Thank you, mistress," she says gratefully, bowing to you. "I must return to my work now, unless mistress requires Bitsy for anything?"
You shake your head, smiling. "No, but thank you, Bitsy. I think it's time for mistress to get some rest."
Bitsy leaves, clutching the film tightly in her hands and bowing out of your view before Disapparating. You close the door behind you, letting out a sigh as Harry stands up slowly, pulling the cloak off.
"I'm sorry about that, Harry," you say. "I really wish we could have more time with Sirius."
"Yeah, me too. Was that a house elf?"
You nod, chuckling. "Sure was. That's Bitsy. You see, I stay up much later than everyone else — I'm usually up in the tower because of course, the best time to view the stars is at night, so I sleep in the next day and miss breakfast a lot of the time. And when I do, I can go down to the kitchens and Bitsy and all the other house elves will give me something to eat — have done since I was in school myself when I did the exact same thing. Bitsy is my saviour, honestly. She's an absolute gem."
"You're able to get into the Hogwarts kitchens?" Harry says curiously.
"Yep. There's a painting of a bowl of fruit down by the entrance to the Hufflepuff common room — just tickle the pear and the door'll open right up for you."
You know that as a teacher you probably shouldn't be telling him this, but you don't really care. You went there countless times as a student so why shouldn't he?
Harry nods thoughtfully before asking, "That spell Sirius mentioned, that could defeat a dragon...have you any idea what it is?"
You bite your lip, drumming your fingers against your hip as you search your brain for anything like that. "I don't, Harry, I'm sorry. Perhaps you could try confundus, and confuse it? I can't say I'm too familiar with dragons...now, you should go to bed, Harry. A good night's sleep for the next few days is what you need before the first task. And in the meantime, I'll have a look and see if I can figure something out for you."
"Thanks, but I doubt I'll find it easy to sleep," Harry remarks, throwing the cloak back over his head.
"Well, if you do find that you can't sleep, come up the Tower," you tell him with a smile, pulling the door open for his invisible figure. "I find stargazing is the best way to relieve stress and solve problems."
⁠✧⁠*⁠。✧⁠*⁠。
You feel like you're about to get sick. You stare at the Hungarian Horntail, huge and terrifying as she crouches protectively over her eggs, huffing great hot breaths out of her large nostrils. And there, standing across from this fearsome beast as though rooted to the spot, is Harry. The crowd roars around you but you can barely hear them as your stomach knots and twists and flips with sickening worry.
"Accio Firebolt!" Harry yells, raising his wand.
You wait. The crowd waits. Harry waits.
And then you see it. Harry's broomstick, his Firebolt, hurtles towards him and stops in mid-air beside him, waiting for him to mount it. You vaguely register Ludo Bagman roaring something over the crowd in response to this, but you're too focused on praying to whatever great deities you can to protect your godson. You're just so relieved that he managed to figure something out — and something so clever, too! Why hadn't you thought of a Summoning Spell? It's so simple. Sirius will be so proud of Harry when he finds out.
Harry rises into the air, the wind rushing through his hair, surveying the dragon not far below him. A sort of resolve seems to come over him and then he dives, forcing you to bring your hands up to cover your eyes in fear.
"Oh, I can't watch," you breathe. Beside you, Minerva gives you an understanding look as she watches on. You hear the rush of fire, the crowd cheering and screaming, and then —
"Great Scott, he can fly!" Bagman roars. "Are you watching this, Mr Krum?"
You open your eyes just in time to see Harry plummet to the ground once more, just missing the burst of flames that flies from the Horntail's open maw — but not quick enough to completely avoid the whip of her tail and to your horror, one of the long spikes grazes Harry's shoulder, ripping his robes.
"Harry!" You shriek, practically about to chew your finger off with the alarming rate you're biting the tips of your nails as you reluctantly watch on, wishing for it to be over.
He begins to fly this way, then that, not near enough to make the dragon breathe fire at him to stave him off, but still posing a sufficient enough threat to make her keep her eyes focused on him, tracking his every move.
The dragon's head sways with his movements, her eyes unwavering as she followed him, gruesome fangs bared. You can feel your heart palpitating in your chest. Harry rises even higher, the Horntail's head rising with him, her neck now stretched out to its fullest extent.
You jump as the Horntail lets out a deafening roar, her tail thrashing threateningly as she blows another burst of fire at him, which he thankfully dodges.
She opens her mouth and then she finally rears, spreading her great, black, leathery wings at last and Harry seizes the opportunity to dive at an incredible speed. You can barely keep your eyes on him with the rate he's whistling through the air, hurtling towards the nest of eggs.
"Come on, come on, come on..." you chant, hands tapping frantically at the tops of your thighs as you sit on the edge of your seat, watching impatiently.
Harry takes his hands off his broom, seizes the golden egg, and with another huge burst of speed, he's off and soaring out over the stands. He tucks the egg safely under his uninjured arm, and looks out over the stands.
You can't help but jump out your seat, cheering yourself hoarse as you voice your praise and feel relief wash over your body like a tsunami. The noise around you is monumental, drumming in your ears like a jackhammer.
"Look at that!" Bagman yells. "Will you look at that! Our youngest champion is the quickest to get his egg! Well, this is going to shorten the odds on Mr Potter!"
The dragon keepers rush forward to subdue the Horntail and you hurry out of your seat, practically sprinting to the entrance of the enclosure. Minerva is hot on your heels and Moody and Hagrid have already beaten you, waiting with wide smiles for Harry to land.
"That was excellent, Potter!" Minerva cries as the boy hops off his broomstick. She points a shaky hand to his shoulder. "You'll need to see Madam Pomfrey before the judges give out your score...Over there, she's had to mop up Diggory already..."
"Harry, you were brilliant!" You exclaim excitedly, eagerly pulling him in for a hug and beaming at him. Normally, you'd worry about other students thinking you have a favourite — which you do, of course you do — but today you couldn't care less, you're so overwhelmed with relief and swelling with pride for your godson. "Absolutely brilliant, Harry! Just — fantastic, honestly, I can't believe it, I was so worried — I'm so proud — "
"Thanks," Harry says, unable to keep the large smile on his face down, his face red.
"Thanks, Hagrid," Harry says loudly, so that Hagrid doesn't blather on about how he had shown Harry the dragons beforehand. You give a light chuckle.
"Yeh' did it, Harry!" says Hagrid hoarsely. "Yeh did it! An' agains' the Horntail an' all, an' yeh know Charlie said that was the wors' — "
Even Moody looks very pleased, the slightest of smiles tugging at his cracked lips. "Nice and easy does the trick, Potter."
"Right then, Potter, the first aid tent, please..." Minerva says, gesturing to the tent with her hand.
He leaves, giving you all a grin before heading into the tent and you just smile proudly after him, rolling on the balls of your feet.
"Oh, he was just excellent, wasn't he?" Minerva says to you, smiling. "The best out of the all the champions, by far!"
You nod enthusiastically. "Easily! Oh, Merlin, I am just so glad he came out alright, I thought I was going to chew my own hand off with worry..."
"He was migh'y," Hagrid says loudly, a sob racking his body as he reaches into his pocket to pull out a large handkerchief, bigger than your face, and blows into it. "Jus' migh'y."
"Oh, Hagrid," you say softly, reaching up to place a comforting hand on his back, smiling sympathetically.
Across the enclosure, the five judges are sitting at the end in raised seats draped in gold. The first judge, Madame Maxime, raises her wand in the air and what looks like a long silver ribbon shoots out of the end of it — forming the shape of a large figure eight.
"Not bad," you remark, clapping along with the crowd. "Must've been the injury that lost him marks..."
Crouch comes next, shooting a number nine into the air.
"Excellent!" Minerva exclaims.
Next, Dumbledore puts up a nine and the crowd yells louder than ever.
Ludo Bagman — ten.
You turn to Minerva in disbelief, matching looks of shock with each other before you eagerly applaud.
Now, Karkaroff raises his wand. He pauses for a moment, and then a number shoots out of his wand — four.
"What?"You yell indignantly, blinking several times to make sure your eyes aren't tricking you. "A four?"
"How shameful, he gave his own student a ten!" Minerva remarks angrily.
Several members of the crowd seem to agree with you, bellowing angrily and booing at Karkaroff's biased marking.
Suddenly, Sirius' words ring in your head.
He's a Death Eater.
You feel your spine chill as you look across the enclosure at Karkaroff's steely expression, steadfast in his decision to reward Harry four marks.
Scumbag.
⁠✧⁠*⁠。✧⁠*⁠。
"A toast!" Dumbledore announces, raising his glass. "To the completion of the first task of the Triwizard Tournament!"
You grin, raising your glass in tandem. "Cheers!" You clink it against Minerva's, then with Professor Sprout's on your other side.
All the staff have gathered in that small room right of the Great Hall for a little staff-only party, the fire blazing in its place and radiating a pleasant warmth around the room. The house elves have prepared a small spread of finger foods for the lot of you — and you've gone straight for the cupcakes, decorated humorously with little edible dragons. They're delicious — you make a mental note to voice your thanks to Bitsy the next time you see her.
Despite the happiness that's settled in you since Harry's successful task, when your eyes land on Karkaroff, sitting on the opposite side of the room to you, talking with Snape, unease gnaws at your gut.
You're sitting in a room with a Death Eater.
You've been in this situation countless times, of course, back when you were an Auror. But then, you knew what was going on. You knew what you were in for. Here, you don't. At parent-teacher meetings, you don't doubt you've been in the company of some Death Eaters, or former Death Eaters, rather. Some of your Slytherins' parents certainly seem to have a fondness for opaque, long-sleeved shirts...
You can't help but remember that night at the Quidditch World Cup, and your brain starts to picture one of those cruel Death Eaters pulling off his mask and revealing Karkaroff's sharp face.
You grip your champagne glass tightly, downing the contents and taking a deep breath. You should go mingle, the time for investigating Karkaroff can come tomorrow.
It's this little staff party that you finally get acquainted with Madame Maxime properly, trying your hand at your conversational-level French. She seems very impressed at this, delighted that you know at least a little bit of her own language — she says something about the 'arrogance of native English speakers', which you don't disagree with.
"Oh, and look at zis pretty diamond on your finger!" Madame Maxime exclaims suddenly, catching sight of your engagement ring, sitting pretty above your wedding band on your left ring finger. She takes your hand in her much larger one so she can inspect it closer. "You are married?"
You look at the sparkling ring, glinting in the candlelight, smiling softly. "Yes, I am."
"'Ow sweet," she remarks, dropping your hand gently. "I was married once."
You raise your eyebrows imploringly and she leans closer, waving her large hand theatrically as she says, "But 'e was a bastard."
She laughs fiendishly, and you just sort of watch, unsure whether you should laugh or not.
"You can laugh!" she assures when she sees your unsure expression. "Good riddance, is what I say. 'E thought 'e could keep ze company of some girl while I was at working at Beauxbatons — so I said to 'im, 'fuck you and ze 'ore you rode in on!'"
You nearly choke on your champagne, shocked at what you've heard come out of Madame Maxime's mouth. She grins proudly, showing rows of pearly white teeth. She seems to be finding your shock very amusing as she laughs again.
"His loss," you tell her, chuckling.
"Absolument." She shrugs nonchalantly, as though it was nothing to her but a stone in the bottom of her shoe. "Et toi? 'Ere is your 'usband?"
You don't answer her for a moment, sucking on your teeth. "Well, I don't know, actually."
"'Ow do you not know?"
"Because he's just escaped from prison," you answer simply. You don't know what makes you tell her that. It would have been so easy to lie, but you don't. Perhaps it's the two too many glasses of champagne you've had, or perhaps it's the way Madame Maxime doesn't seem to care about anything, really, other than Fleur Delacour and the tournament.
Her mouth drops for a second, before she laughs. "Ah, well, c'est la vie. Marriage is never easy."
You chuckle softly, shaking your head. It feels weirdly relieving to you that she couldn't care less about your personal life. You find a new respect for the woman in front of you. "Certainly not."

He isn’t ashamed of it. James has a face anyone would want to stare at. Though he’s pretty sure the rest of the patrons in the cafe think he’s some creepy guy with no social skills. But it’s not his fault. James looks so sexy while making coffee. How can anyone expect Regulus to control himself? 
The way James’ arms flex and biceps strain under the short sleeves. The rough, veiny hands that always touch his skin so tenderly. The thick, long fingers he has felt in places he should not be thinking about in public. 
The sinful tongue that has brought him intense pleasure; is now caught between his teeth. The big, brown eyes that crinkle innocently at patrons but Regulus intimately knows what they look like, dark and half-lidded with lust. 
The messy curls that are always so soft under his fingers. The smiling lips that can drag the most embarrassing sounds out of Regulus.

Hands buried in his jet black hair, you kissed him heatedly as he pushed you against the wall. Void of any thoughts, your mind was focused solely on the rush of adrenaline that the feel of his hands on you was causing. After a few minutes you pulled away, and looked into his dazed green eyes with a small sigh.
"I should get going, the girls will start wondering where I've gone." You said, your voice dazed and distant.
He nodded almost reluctantly, looking you over once more before leaving, giving you the chance to quickly fix your smudged lipstick in the mirror before also exiting the cramped toilet. You poked your head out of the door and checked the corridor of the train for anyone who might be watching, but thankfully it was empty. Flattening down your skirt, you made your way back to your friends' compartment.
You and James Potter had been hooking up for... 3 months now, was it? You weren't entirely sure and you hadn't exactly been keeping track. It had started off just before the fifth year of school had ended, and it had continued over the summer. It was simply founded on - like most things - sexual attraction, with both parties strictly agreed to no strings attached. It had stayed that way since. Potter needed an output for his energy (of which from personal experience he had an abundance of) and you were scared to commit emotionally in a relationship but still wanted certain benefits, therefore your arrangement just worked.
Sirius smirked as James entered the rickety train compartment, his hair even messier than usual and his glasses spread jauntily across his face.
"So, how was she?" Sirius asked, humour evident in his voice as James rolled his eyes whilst sitting down.
Remus and Peter looked up from the chocolate frog cards they'd been comparing (who had gotten the rarer card: "wanna swap?" "i will for your dumbledore"), finally taking notice of James' disheveled appearance.
"Who?" Peter asked, looking between the two boys nervously.
"His sneaky link of course- the one he won't tell us about." In that moment James felt extremely vulnerable as Sirius' eyes raked up and down him, looking for any sort of clue.
Remus quirked a brow, and Peter's faced promptly turned red as he busied himself by stuffing a struggling chocolate frog into his mouth.
James shrugged, "Good. Nothing much to say really." He paused, taking notice of Sirius' suggestive expression, "And it's definitely not like what you're thinking." He emphasised the last part, picking up the latest daily prophet that was strewn across the floor. James began to rifle through the pages, clearly not reading a thing.
"Who is she?" Sirius exclaimed, ignoring James' previous comment, curiosity biting at his voice. "This has been going on for months now, Prongs, and you haven't even introduced her to us!"
Sirius paused, taking a quick glance at the blond with the remnants of chocolate frog spread around his mouth. "I mean Peter I understand.." He lowered his voice, "but Remus and I... I'm your best friend. Plus I always tell you about the girls I'm with." He said pointedly.
"Only because you have so much to say; there's a new one every bloody week." James gave up pretending to read the newspaper and gave Sirius a look. "Sorry mate but it's just the truth. I'll tell you at some point she's- just not ready."
Sirius stood up with a dramatic sigh, a sign that the interrogation was over. At least for the time being. "I'm going to go grab some pumpkin pasties, anyone want one?"
Peter raised his hand, and Sirius began to leave when James stopped him.
"Here." The boy with the round-rimmed glasses gestured to the money in his right hand.
"James." Remus muttered warningly. He knew that Sirius could never accept money from his friends. Especially not from the Potters, who from Sirius' perspective were already kind enough to allow him to live with them over the summer ever since his parents had completely cut him off.
Sirius paused at the sliding door without fully turning around, so that only the side of his face was visible. "I can handle a few pumpkin pasties, Prongs." Sirius' prior demeanour of happiness vanished, and James realised his offer to help his best friend had likely offended him instead.
James quickly retracted his hand, "Yeah mate, of course."
"-and then I hexed him, because what kind of asshole stands a girl up at Madam Puddifoots?!" Your friend and fellow Slytherin Serafina exclaimed as you burst out laughing. The two of you had always been good friends, and had gotten especially close in the past year: largely due to the fact that you had the same humour.
All of a sudden the trolley lady popped into view as she stuck her head through the open compartment door.
"Anything from the trolley dears?"
Your eyes lit up, saying that you adored food was an understatement, "I'll have a-"
"Got any more pumpkin pasties?" A voice interrupted you, a look of disdain making it's way onto your features.
Sirius Black was in the corridor of the train, right outside your compartment. This had taken you by surprise- you hadn't expected to see him so soon. You had been hopeful that you wouldn't have to see Black at the very least until when lessons began. His sudden appearance had caught you completely off-guard. Granted, he hadn't exactly changed all that much since you had last seen him- which happened to be during an extremely awkward and unpleasant encounter during the summer holidays, just as you were heading to the Potter's home to meet James whilst his parents were away. You had made up some silly excuse at the time, waiting for an hour in a coffee shop before you dared to return to the Potters' home. But then, you hadn't really had the chance to properly look at him, since your eyes had been focused on your trainers in an attempt to conceal your red face.
Mind snapping to the present, your eyes drifted again to Black. His dark wavy hair was now chin-length, just about long enough to brush against his defined jawline. From where you were sat, he seemed noticeably taller too. A shame, you thought. The days during your first three years of Hogwarts - when you had been able to make fun of Sirius Black for being shorter than you as it was the one advantage you had - had clearly long gone. On top of that, Black appeared to have visibly matured. His air of arrogance and mischief were still there, sure, but he looked more... burdened. The dark circles underneath his eyes didn't escape your notice.
All of the girls around you except for Serafina immediately began to smile shyly.
Black, completely unaware, was in the middle of grabbing four pasties when he noticed his gaggle of admirers.
"Ladies," He acknowledged with a smirk, and you got the distinct impression that he was basking in the attention, like a cat in a garden enjoying the sunlight.
That was until his gaze fell on you. "(L/n)." He dragged out your last name in a disinterested tone, the anger in his foggy grey eyes betraying how much your appearance bothered him. Apparently you still got on his nerves. Good.
Your glare somehow increased as your eyes met his. It wasn't until the trolley lady asked again for what you wanted that you broke off from his stare. Black, taking that as a sign of victory, went back to his gang of troublemakers, allowing you to finally relax and scoff your cauldron cakes. Serafina had watched the two of you interact, now deep in thought as she absentmindedly fiddled with an empty chocolate frog box.
After a few moments of bated breath followed by a reassuring click as the compartment door slid shut, the girls began to giggle amongst eachother. Their gaze flickered to you every so often as they excitedly recounted what had just happened. This behaviour was pretty normal, and so you had learned to block it out by now. The girls you and Sera were with in the compartment were just some Slytherins you'd sat next to in class before, so it wasn't like you were obliged to chat with them or anything.
Lost in thought, you leaned your head against the cool window, swirling your tongue around your mouth as you savoured the taste of the delectable cake. Here was to hoping that your sixth year would be as sweet as the chocolatey goodness in your mouth.
Saltiness flooded your taste buds as you accidentally bit your tongue.

Safe & Sound
When Sirius was around five his father got him a dog, that was back when they hadn’t really realised Sirius was not going to be the ideal Black, but still long enough for them to realise the importance of leverage with their children.
Sirius was clearly too young to question Orion’s motives and just went along with it, daring to hope that maybe his father was going to be nice for a while again.
When Sirius was seven and refused to learn French in his free time his father had his dog killed.
Now, Sirius mostly thinks about how his animagus looks like his dog.
However, sometimes late at night very briefly, when he’s sleep dazed and has let his guard down, does he think about how he’d loved the dog so much that it made him physically sick.
Sirius would hold the leash extra tight while walking him because of the pit in his stomach and the voice telling him if he let go the dog would leave and get hit by oncoming traffic, get lost, or fall into a ditch.
When the dog refused to eat he’d cry himself to sleep worried he’d be dead the next morning.
The constant anxiety of having to care about anyone being alive was exhausting because he didn’t have any practice with it.
He didn’t really care if his parents lived or not. And he hadn’t met Regulus enough to want him alive either.
In said sleep-dazed thoughts he’d realise how much he hated loving things. It made him sick to his stomach like it was the worst feeling in the world.
He’d let the people that loved him do anything close to killing him without a single question in his mind.
James could put a knife in his back and Sirius would say thank you. Anything they did to him was acceptable.
Anything anyone done to them wasn’t.
That’s why he was constantly trapped in the middle of these confines, the ones where he wanted to vomit until he passed out because if they died he would die and the ones where he wanted to throw himself off of a building because he couldn’t stop this.
He couldn’t stop them.
Maybe that’s what the Aurors saw when they arrested him, for their murders.
Relief.
Relief that it was finally over and everything he was worried would go wrong had gone wrong.
Now that they’d died he didn’t have anything to be worried about nor did he have anything to fight for.
It was the first fight he had with Remus before they got together. About how he didn’t want to be with Remus, because it would crush Sirius’ soul and he wouldn’t be able to take it.
Not with Remus.
Never with Remus.
Remus fit perfectly and it made him feel ill. He hated that he could imagine him staying forever and he hated it even more than he wanted it.
Family would never be a part of his equation.
He s hours at the night begging, to a god he was sure didn't exist when he didn't have anyone to love, to keep Remus safe and alive.
Having nightmares about having everything taken away from him when he couldn't do anything about it, about James betraying them and hurting Remus while Sirius can't stop him.
Bile crawls up his throat.
Remus breaks all of those parts of him that he’s spent so long building up and it’s completely terrifying.
Remus is it for him.
Remus has a chokehold on him and one day he's going to suffocate.
Eventually, when he starts believing that Remus was the spy he was ready to forgive him, ready to join the other side for him, beg James and Lily to join them too.
Anything for Remus.
Anything.
Except when he brings it up, the look of hurt flashing across Remus' eyes, the hurt the betrayal, the sentiment doesn't transfer.
And he can feel himself choking as Remus leaves him, safe and sound.

Regulus needs to talk to James before Evan snitches on him because he looks dangerously close to taking matters into his own hands. But despite what everyone seems to think, his fear regarding telling James isn’t entirely unreasonable. He remembers telling someone about him – several centuries ago – and how terribly it went. 
He remembers seeing fear and disgust in the eyes of someone he loved. He won’t be able to bear it again. Especially not from James, who has consumed every bit of Regulus’ soul and drowned him in his infinite sea of love. 
In his friends’ defence, none of them know about what happened with his ex-lover. Back then, he told them he walked away because he didn’t want to disclose his secret – Regulus was too ashamed to admit to the truth – and they fear he’ll do the same again.
But running away from James has never crossed his mind once. He already loves James too much. Regulus is certain that distance will make him even more desperate to taste James. He just needs to figure out how not to have a panic attack just at the thought of telling James.
