This season of the life series I only watched ep 1 of Jimmy and pretended to stay that way(I am not that big of a fan of the life series, its not really my jam), but this fucking comment is making me rethink this. I need to see wtf this cluster family is.

the complicated and highly silly worldbuilding/headcanons of mumbo k jumbo:

Seasons 2-8: ‘Human.’ Absolutely not human though. Like this man just doesn’t know he’s a shapeshifter. It’s not like he has a reference for what humans are though? No one on HC is. At least not that he thinks is human? Because there’s no one on hc that’s like him. Clearly shows signs of being a shapeshifter. Clearly shows signs of his shapeshifting abilities being able to affect others temporarily, too. He changes form, or someone else does at his hands? It’s just the Narrative/Story Magic/Builder’s Magic!

Season 8: multiple things happen at once. The most noticeable, the soul stealing thing. He knows but only actually processes afterwards that grian never was human in the first place, a real testament to exactly how crazy his perspective is. Boatem meeting is called, they figure out Mumbo’s a shapeshifter and probably has been the entire time they’ve known him, and then Scar goes, “what about the vampirism?”

Season 8, continued: “What do you mean, ‘what about the vampirism?’” says the other four members of boatem, mumbo loudest of all.

Season… I don’t know. maybe before hermitcraft, even. or somewhere between season 2 and 5. Mumbo is bitten by a vampire. Mumbo is a shapeshifter who is a human at the time, so it looks like nothing changes. It’s kind of an awkward exchange, but they both go about their day like nothing happened. mumbo doesnt figure out that vampire was actually a vampire.

Season 5 sometime: Mumbo is in his base. the Convex are spying on him. Mumbo is quite clearly a vampire but he is still very much under the impression he is human. he’s accidentally shapeshifted into his vampire form, but is clueless. he probably just thinks his base is lagging out his mirror. The Convex know mumbo’s a vampire, and have seen him as such, but he seems human next time he’s seen

And, if we’re feeling extra silly, though this one’s optional (listen. none of this is set in stone.): Post-moonfall, the void. The dormant Watcher abilities gained from the soulsteal awaken, or at least begin to.

guess whos insane about skizzleman and impulse in the life series again

its me. theres limited life spoilers here so like, if thats not your gig, now you know. did you guys see. that in this session, session 3, both Impulse and Skizz independently decided that they needed to give their allies items that would help them survive? So they both did a lot of personal hard work to make sure that the people they trust the most would always have these items on them in case of danger? and. and the items are Ender Pearls and Golden Apples? Items that both of them have history with? For Impulse and Ender Pearls... Remember the Ender Pearl Stasis Chamber that saved and failed Impulse many times in 3rd Life? Remember Impulse Ender Pearling to Bdubs, to his demise, in 3rd Life? Remember Impulse having the option to save himself from falling off the Ghast Farm with Ender Pearls but dying because he focused too hard on the boat trick in Last Life? Remember Impulse designing an escape route for him and Bdubs if they ever needed it, one that required Ender Pearls to fully complete, in Double Life? For Skizzleman and Golden Apples... (well, shoutout to this post by @aquelondungeonmaster about Skizz and Golden Apples because HOLY SHIT IT MAKES ME EAT DIRT AND WALLS!!!!) Remember Skizz being given a Golden Apple by Ren for some leather, and in a way solidifying Skizz’s loyalty in 3rd Life? Remember Skizz giving out Golden Apples to the Red Army before rushing to his own death in 3rd Life? Remember Skizz trying but failing to save himself from getting killed by eating a Golden Apple in Last Life? Remember Skizz not being in Double Life, the only series that had to ban Golden Apples because they would break things? What I’m saying is, there’s history here. History of these two with these specific items either saving or failing to save them in the previous series...and not only that, they’re kinda symbolic of how these two treat conflict. Skizz gives his allies, the people he loves and cares for, Golden Apples. Something to help them face conflict, something that will make them stronger then before. Impulse gives his allies, the people he loves and cares for, Ender Pearls, something to help them escape conflict and live another day. Isn’t it just awfully symbolic of them? For both of them to give out items to help their allies that lines up with how they treat conflicts, while also having a lot of history with these items specifically? how the FUCK isn’t the life series scrippted WHAT ARE THESE CONNECTIONNNNS????? omg i love the 3rd life horses so much <333 do you have a thought process for the specific breeds you assigned people, along with the horses’ armor pieces and such? also, i know you said you’re doing 3rd life horses, so do you have any headcanons for what kind of horse life series players that weren’t in 3rd life like pearl and lizzie would have? (like even if you don’t end up drawing them)

i dont have specific breeds picked out for all of them but ill just go through each one :]

cleos horse is a clydesdale, i knew i wanted some big draught horses for cleo and ren specifically, and i just looove clydesdales theyre so beautiful. for bdubs i wasnt as sure, his is maybe a quarter horse or something? definitely something fast and versatile. and both of their tack is meant to be fancy but not too over the top (cleos horse has a couple flowers that match the ones in cleos hair, and bdubs' horse has a clock and a red cloth that matches bdubs' headband)

rens horse is a shire, wanted his horse to he as big and imposing as possible. for martyn i also wanted something strong and big, but not as fancy and eyecatching. so that its obvious from looking at the horses who's the king and who's the hand. i think his is maybe a cleveland bay? and then both of their tack is very medieval knight-esque, which i think fits their vibe pretty well.

for joels horse im not really set on a specific breed, but i wanted something small and agile for him, something used for hunting. his tack is also a lot simpler than the crastle & dogwarts people

for etho i was kinda struggling tbh. the first breed that came to mind was something like arabian or akhal-teke, but in a third life scenario it just doesnt really make sense to give a desert horse to anyone except desertduo lol. my other option was some kind of ancient breed - like sorraias/tarpans. but those are pretty small and i wanted something a bit bigger, so i ended up with just kinda. generic gray horse. i wish id have made the markings a darker gray instead of white, and added a stripe on the back, i think thatd work better. he also has pretty minimal tack, and he's the only one who rides without stirrups cause he just seems like that kinda guy (same)

for the other third lifers - desert duo get either an arabian or akhal teke, like i said. kinda leaning towards arabian. they also only get one horse because they still have pizza too of course

imp & skizz & bigb all get bigger working horses similar to martyn probably. i think imp & skizz get very similar horses, and for bigb im thinking maybe black forest horse or something?

tango gets a mustang, i dont really have a reason for that it just feels right

jimmy gets a haflinger because thats like the golden retriever of horse breeds i think

for scott im not sure either - he could be a lusitano kinda guy, but tbh i think flower husbands can just share one haflinger with a million flowers woven into its hair

and then the ones that werent in third life - pearl definitely gets a marwari horse. im not sure what it is about those horses but thats just. the pearlescentmoon horse to me. maybe its the ears, they kinda look like little antennae

for lizzie im not really sure generally, but i think specifically for the last life fairy fort she gets a unicorn. thats just the only kinda horse i can think of that makes sense lol

mumbo gets a trakehner or some similar warmblood breed

gem gets an irish cob i think. definitely something thats strong but not super big

to fuel ur theatre au brainworms, in the romeo and juliet au: mercutio is bdubs + benvolio is cleo, and jimmy and joel are sampson and gregory (two capulets from the start of the play they're such dumbasses my absolute beloveds), so we've got the design philosophy of the montagues and the capulets mirroring the aesthetics of the family and the bad boysss. (I never came up with a design for bad boy!Ren when he steps in as Tybalt instead of Grian during show week but I feel it's not too hard to imagine hehe)

but also (separately from that au, because I saw other talk of the life series and theatre and plays on ur blog) I constantly think about the life series as a greek tragedy, specifically in relation to the purpose of the series' inevitable tragedy being catharsis for the watchers (with the watchers also being literally the viewers). we love to see them suffer!!! but there's also a bunch of politics surrounding greek tragedies that Plato and Aristotle had discourse about that you can rope into it and tldr; my understanding is catharsis was Aristotle's answer to Plato's concern that tragedies' emotive affect could encourage rebellion against the state, with Aristotle saying that instead the cycle of pity and fear and eventual catharsis felt by the audience has a "purifying" effect that's like an emotional release from those emotions instead. Then with the extra layer of lore the fandom has surrounding Grian running away from the watchers, if Grian designs the life games, to the end of sating the watchers' need to emotionally feed (thank you Martyn for that piece of lore I'm stealing it jkfhdsk), the purpose of the games could be the cleansing of the watchers' discomfort with him running away and being a player and maintaining the status quo where Grian is actually the one in control !!!! even if he makes himself suffer. also different characters "curses" as their harmatia!! And, if we interpret the watchers as a fictional force AND the viewers simultaneously, then the chorus could absolutely be watchers who are vocal in the fandom - removed from the "players" (and OH how I love the dual meaning of minecraft players and players as in actors) but providing additional commentary and insight into what's happening that further feeds the emotional experience of the audience !!

lrb actually i wont shut up yet but i dont wanna like add more tags. the poll isnt about whats most *realistic* but rather whats more agonizing and i think both bring up interesting ways to interpret that line.

because "he knows bdubs said it and did it to echo that" can come off two ways 1) a genuine response to 'he loves me, he cares' 2) potential way to reference that line and also rub in his death weeks after the event BUT i will be honest i dont think enough of that could be to make fun at bdubs, it doesnt feel like its aimed *at his death* its aimed at the fact etho just. didnt win it for bdubs, like thats what he was doing. not that he was responding in a cheeky way to what bdubs said-- just poking at the fact 'he knows'. "realistically" no, etho maybe didnt watch another pov to find out he said that and no, he wouldnt have held onto this specific line multiple episodes later. the thought of him making a genuine reply to bdubs sets a very different angle of Sad but the second option--

that it is coincidence that it echoes bdubs' words. there is a different kind of agony in it because he leaves both people unaware... etho doesnt know bdubs said that, bdubs doesnt know etho said that. it does come off as the most "realistic" option of course but, it is also my preferred agony because i love it when two people dont know when the other says things like that. especially for etho. bdubs voices loudly his loyalty to etho all season, dying to it. while etho remains as he always does- not a loud loyal lover of his friend but still ever wanting to keep him alive. etho does not express in the way bdubs does-- around bdubs. he does so in a way that flies under the radar, making it seem like his attachment is lesser.

and then. when bdubs dies. its clear to everyone how much he wanted bdubs to live. and when he dies, alone, with no bdubs, its the one moment where he actually says "i love you" even if played off jokingly. bdubs had no clue he confirmed that he loves him, he cares, after hearing his friends claim that etho no longer cared about him. he doubted if etho cared right up to his own death and that is the last thing he got to hear. bdubs dies in doubt and desperation. he wanted to get back to etho and prove himself and be together because if he didnt do it, theyd never be together and he'd never get to maybe hopefully hear etho say that to him directly. the added agony is knowing etho never would have said it if bdubs what right there with him.

etho's sitting on a ledge. there are cars zipping past him underneath the bridge he's sitting on, and he's throwing cans, watching them get crushed by tires zipping past. he hates the way his life is. therapy is expensive, running away would just lead to the cops chasing him and a dirty record, and he doesn't really want to end his life either. that only leaves one totally reasonable and practical option: faking his death! with the help of bdubs (idk their prior relationship yet) they set off to fake his death! what could go wrong?

grian on the other hand, is suicidal. he's miserable and can't think of a way out, with not family or friends to support him. before he can start planning tho, he runs into a friendly scammer- i mean stranger who introduces him to the wonderful world of cheating the system and faking your death! grian says sure, because what has he got to lose? if things go south anyways, he doesn't care if he ends up dead anyways.

Hi! I've only been playing minecraft for a month and building things is now my favourite thing to do but i am still incredibly new at this.

Do you have any suggestions at all abot how to improve?

Should i buy texture packs?

Should i just build more?

Is it okay to use references?

Do you have any suggestions about YouTube channels to watch?

Do you build in creative or in survival mode? Do you ever use commands?

Hello! In all honesty I've only really been building in minecraft for about a year and a half and before that I was literally living in cobblestone boxes and spending 80% of my time in the mines aha, but I've learnt a lot in the time I've been doing this!

Texture packs are an optional thing, you don't have to use them and you defo shouldn't just buy any of the bedrock ones just because. Its completely up to you if thats something youd like to do!

But a lot of building is about practice! Figure out your shapes, your blocks you want to use, just wing it, go wild! A couple tips I do have are:

1. don't limit yourself on what a block IS. wood just doesn't have to be wood and stone just doesn't have to be stone. I've made walls from mushroom blocks, mixed sponge into a gradiant, heck my most recent build for buildtober (the pumpkin spice cafe i made) has walls made from snow blocks and powdered snow!

2. Depth is everything in minecraft! Use panes for your windows instead of full glass blocks, it just gives it a little bit of a 3d look! The only way I learn't how to use depth in my builds was experimenting

3. I don't remember who said it (probably bdubs) but when working with a big wall and using different blocks for texture and detail try to make every 3 x 3 section of it a little different to avoid it looking all flat and meh

4. when working on bigger builds defo try to do a little planning! even if it's just the over all shape or what blocks youd like to use where. I know I've said i wing a lot of my builds, which I do, but I also know what blocks I'll be using before I jump in. OF COURSE, that can change over the course of the building project but Thats Just How It Be Sometimes.

It's 100% okay to use references, from irl or others builds! There's plenty of build tutorials hanging around on tumblr and youtube. I can only reccomend youtube channels I've watched but there's loads and everyone has a different building style! I personally really like GeminiTay, fWhip, bdoubleO100 (bdubs) and you might've heard of Grian. And before anyone says "Scott Clovercrafted Darling those are just your blorbos". And you're right, they are my blorbos but they're all insanely good builders.

I build in both creative and survival! The Rosendale Megaproject I've been working on is a creative project while my current world, Duskwood, is pure survival! I try to do a little bit of everything except redstone. Well. I can make basic redstone farms but that's about it. My ability only extends to being the dude who gets excited if he can get a piston to move. I'm not even going to touch commands or command blocks, thats a whole other level of wizardry.

TEAM BEST ya they are a turf/anarchy team!! i think im going to have them specialise in.. rainmaker or clam blitz? though i dont play either of those modes or any of their weapons enough to be sure yet. im THINKING of making skizz or tango a species other than ink/octo but im also not sure there. zits may become a band if i feel up to fleshing that out bc itd be cool. AND bdubs is some sort of dj/band member for sure. him amd doc were roomates when doc got out of the underground so i think thatshow doc got into djing in the splatlands.. sorry he isnt team best but thats important. tango and etho run a semi-legal casino in the back of beefs grizzco office (stat poker) and id say tango helps with the tech for. some modes??? maybe he designs bombs im undecided. skizz i need to put more thought into definitely but ill get there in time

as for weapons, etho is bamboozler main maybe with some sort of.. stealthier other options? idk i like bamboozler too much. bdubs is inkbrush!! maybe some dualies too but not sure which. tango... i want to give him a splatling since i like the mental image but i think hes much more of a shooter guy. anything with crab tank i think hed love tbat. skizz im also hesitant on.. something with booyah bomb but not a lot of weapons have that rn. this ranking will so change once we get new kits for weapons so im leaving mtself open tbh

i like thinking about classpecting the life series members so uh

skizz has to be a blood player. his whole thing literally every season is bringing a team together. BEST, TIES, the heart foundation, even in 3rd life hes said on the podcast he saw himself as the in between guy keeping everyone together. hes about community and connections between people, even when its to his own detriment, or isnt as helpful as he thinks it is (defending bdubs in LL to keep the team together) idk class but he's one of the "natural w their aspect" ones, and probably not a destructive nor passive class.

martyn i think is actually a breath player? it could be mind if youre looking at him being kinda smart and sneaking around and trying to have the upper hand. but most of the time i think hes making contingency plans. making sure no matter what he always has other options, the freedom to leave or betray someone without losing absolutely everything. in fact in DL i think he even gives freedom to cleo, to make that choice to be with scott and still know marytn is there and is an option for her. in 3L and LL he offers jimmy some kind of out, giving him an extra choice in whatever situation. in SL (and all seasons tbh) he makes promises left and right not to hurt teams, to be their sword, etc but is ultimately still alone after jimmy's death. he's never fickle or unsure where his alliances lie, they lie with him and thats all that matters. im not sure what class would match up with like... giving options, opportunities, choices, to himself as well as others, but its him

Ok ok im tired of seeing every mention of bigbs betrayal being all the same takes over and over about either cleo and/or that he could have asked, so here are some other thoughts:

- the point of boogeyman, and technically the game at large, is to get people to trust u so theyre less of a threat. Technically bigb did exactly what the role was intended for, he basically just played the long con. The fact that he caught feelings cause he didnt Realize he was playing a long con just makes it that much juicier

- also how many people can say they Actually gained Cleo's trust? Bdubs. And MAYBE tango. And even then was it her trust they got or just her affection? Technically i think that makes bigb one of the best boogeymen so far.

- After all what better way to gain someones trust than to genuinely deserve it. Up. Till. The very. Last. Moment. (Not great for cleo's future trust endeavors, but that kind of works seeing as thats the one thing she doesn't need anymore...) (also another great foil moment to ren, who also gains trust thru actually deserving it- imo)

- consider why the fairies ultimately decided to stick with him. Theyve all been boogeymen. They Know the itch. They kno, even tho they Started by trying to kill outside the alliance, if push came to shove, EXACTLY how it did for bigb (he didn't immediately decide to kill in-ranks, he struggled the whole episode to find Anyone), they wouldve done anything as well.

- yes, if he'd told them, if he'd ASKED for help, push might Not have come to shove for bigb, but consider why he didnt. He was Terrified. He isnt like Lizzie, he specifically mentioned he doesnt kno how to build traps and there were several moments he Could have pvped that Could have failed. And he's not ren either. He doesnt have the leverage ren has, he doesnt have the repor that would help him trust others to Trust him. And hes not cleo, shes never been the boogeyman, she has no idea what she'd do (or wouldve done) let alone anyone else knowing.

- remember bigb telling etho he wouldnt kill anyone? That he thought maybe he'd just go to red? He almost did. Do you think he thought of that in those final moments? Why do you think he changed his mind? Maybe being boogeyman made him realize how impossible winning on red might be for him. Maybe he realized he'd rather take the risk losing a friend on green than not having the option of friends on red...

- And can we talk about his main ally being cleo? Cleo who, even when she had absolutely 0 reasons not to trust ren, refused to trust him. Shes willing to drop people. Shes willing to drop Anyone. Even when she Swore she would Die for tango and bdubs, she said it because she Believed they might ask. Because when the name of the game is last life, the only person you can Trust is yourself.

- I do believe that, in the last 5 minutes, if bigb had told her, cleo would have let him kill her. But if he'd asked for their help from the start the way ren did? If he'd told her on that ladder, or on the bridge, or maybe even standing over the pond having listened to them all jump aboard to help ren. I dont think it would have been the same.

- And maybe, maybe bigb didnt want to ask. Maybe in spite of the curse, in spite of every instinct to survive. Bigb might hoped, believed even, that he might fail to kill Cleo.

- Lizzie didnt think to disavow bigb. I personally think it just genuinely didnt occur to her, because real time rping and what have u. But she could have condemned bigb. It wouldve made sense. Cleo was angry that she was betrayed, if Lizzie had simply said i am also angry you got betrayed (and she seemed like she honestly was) if she had said why would i want someone i kno will betray their closest allies on my team (and why would she) she might have won cleo back, and cleo wouldn't have gone over to scott and pearl's and she wouldnt have gone red...

- martyn trying to exile bigb from the fairies without being a part of them

- the way martyn is trying to use ren to control the fairies, but he crossed the line. He's never been boogeyman, he didnt think ren would side with a traitor, maybe he should wonder just how much he Does kno about ren. Just how much power he really has.. (also, just, ren being the one to stick up for bigb And against martyn one of the people actually like the most 🥺🥺) (also martyn overstepping- over estimating what he can get away with >:3 get lost stinky boy!!)

-the shadow fairies are now entirely composed of people who have been afflicted by the curse

- not only did the only person to not experience the curse end up being the one to abandon ship now shes a red name

- (listen, writing isnt my strong suit, but i feel like red names v boogeymen make for an interesting dichotomy, like red names are almost more "natural" and harder to come back from, where the boogeyman is practically a virus and people who have it are still green names, they still have the chance to "remove" the curse and being red is still the most terrifying threat)

- mix that with cleo's general self-riteousness (affectionate)- "i have the RIGHT to kill, now, youre all just TRAITORS"

- i think cleo pointing out to ren that she knew if push came to shove ren wouldve betrayed her or bigb was really important to ren sticking up for bigb afterward

- yes theyre perfect foils for what happened- the difference between being transparent with ur allies and having help v not and ending up being Forced to betray.

- But Cleo Was right and ren Does grant that if skizz hadnt worked he wouldve been short on time and even Lizzie may have requested he kill one of their allies rather than lose her guard dog

- even tho bigb was in 3rd life he was forced to make way less difficult decisions, mostly cause he was just less confrontational, he has less experience with that that than ren, he was SCARED

- he was Scared his allies didnt care enough about him to help. He was scared he had the one ally on the server most likely to drop him for even being remotely a threat. He was Scared that he didnt have what it took to pvp or trap or beguile!

- and if u just take even a moment to consider "why DIDN'T he tell anyone after they spent literally the whole episode Helping ren", u realise the answer couldve very well been.. "well, im not ren" maybe he felt like more of an outsider than ren, more expendable.

-bigb cast himself out of the alliance before they ever had the chance to. By staying on the outside, he never had to know if they would turn their backs on him. And the fact that they decided to stick with him after it all, when he thought they might really cast him out. Looked inside themselves and realized that bigb was Not an outsider- Not a Betrayer- that he was in fact, just like them- scared and afflicted and feeling completely alone. I think this could make their alliance way stronger than the others, and possibly even make ren more resilient to martyns whispers (although evidence points to no on that one)

- i do think, tho, bigb needs to find something more substantial to tie himself to them fast though. "We have all had to deal with the fear of betraying our friends now" is not exactly the most substantial post to tie your bonds to. But i think just making that idea stronger by Being more transparent moving forward could do the trick. Making it less "we all have almost betrayed our friends" and making it "we are not the curse that made us do that" maybe? Might could help? And by being honest- not vulnerable but honest- moving forward could have that desired effect, exactly...

Same as the other person said with the servers, except you can travel between them in this sort of public hub. A bit like that one bdubs fic, that way they can visit other worlds, see updates (snapshots) before it comes to their own, set up new temporary worlds etc. Of course with the whitelist you cant just walk into any old world, youd need permission.

I know everybody imagine communicators as phones, but ive always imagined them more as a small tablet, like ipad mini size. Could fit in a trouser pocket size. But like, type with 2 thumbs size. Does that make sense? Thered probably be a tab to switch to offworld contacts and be able to chat/call with people regularly who are not in your world, and an option to video call. I dont see people in the same world using the call/videocall features.

Also totally agree with your death/respawn hc! I love when thats included in fics. You cant just spring straight up from death honey /lh

Yeah, I couldn't find one. So I spent half an hour and made one. XD This is still a bit big, I think it would be small enough to slip into a pocket but... I mean, we can fit shulkers into our pockets so space doesn't seem to be an issue lol.

I love the idea that the HUD is still something you can actually monitor as a player. Your health, your hunger, your coords, any beacon effects, the tab list (bless the tab list), and chat -- and maybe other things too, but you'd have to pull them up from a menu. Like a screenshot function but it's actually a camera. Or if you're an admin, you can access logs and player data this way.

But the see-through screen with the HUD on it? Yeah, that's solidly in my imagination.
