Part 8 of the Mamma Mia series

After Japan, you operate on auto-pilot, the days all blurring into one. At work, your colleagues leave you be, however, your best friend sees right through you, especially after you cancel on her for a third day in a row. So Jasmine does what any best friend would do: she lets herself into your apartment with the key you had given her, only to find you curled up on the couch, staring into space as the sun sets, drowning you in twilight. She forces you to get changed out of your work clothes while she puts the kettle on.

“Talk to me. This is not like you,” Jasmine says, putting a mug in front of you.

“I don’t even know where to start..” you mumble.

“Start with what’s got you so heartbroken that you’ve become a recluse,” Jasmine offers. You shrug, feeling another wave of tears threatening to spill.

“I broke my own heart. I should never have agreed to their plan,” you say. You tell her all about the last couple of weeks, about the dates they had been taking you on. About how you tried so very hard to not fall in love.

“But I did. I fell harder than I think I ever have.”

“How does that lead to you breaking your own heart? Shouldn’t you be over the moon and disgustingly in love with your man?” Jasmine asks you.

“How can I be happy when I love all three of them?” you throw out, a sob wrecking through your body as you bury your face in your hands, “I am such a greedy whore for wanting all of them,” you whisper.

“No. Stop that right now,” Jasmine says, moving her chair next to yours and pulling you against her chest.

“Sometimes I really curse your parents for the religious trauma they subjected you to. Babe, we’ve talked about this. There is nothing wrong with being a slut or a whore, as you put it, as long as it is your choice to be called that term. Nothing wrong with a little consensual degradation in the bedroom. But loving more than one person does not make you a whore. It makes you polyamorous,” Jasmine responds, rubbing a hand down your back. 

“P-poly-what now?” you ask as you look up at her.

“Polyamorous. Oh babe, for someone with a double master’s degree, you really are clueless sometimes. It means someone who’s in a relationship with more than one person at a time. It just means you love differently than the heteronormative norm.”  

You’re quiet for a moment, letting your friend’s words sink in. She’s hit the nail on the head with her comment about your parents. You went no contact years ago, but your religious upbringing sometimes still haunts you even now that you’re an adult and no longer believe in the church as an institution. A tiny spark of hope flickers alive in your heart at the knowledge that there is a world in which you don’t have to choose between them, before it gets squashed by the realisation that you might have burnt that bridge before you even got to cross it. 

“What if it’s too late?’ you voice your biggest worry out loud, “What if they don’t want me anymore?” 

“Unfortunately there is only one way to find out. You gotta talk to them.”

Jasmine made it seem so easy, but finding the time to do so is proving difficult during the next race weekend. Due to the sprint race, the weekend is even busier than normal. By the time Sunday comes around you are convinced it won’t happen. Kevin seems to be avoiding you —and you can’t blame him for that—, Lewis is busy preparing for two races, and Mark is filming for Channel4. You throw yourself into your work, trying your hardest not to think about how your chest constricts every time you catch a glimpse of any of them on the screens in the garage. It’s not until Sunday’s race has well and truly started that you can’t use work as an excuse anymore. The latest bits of sim data have already been analysed so you really have no reason to stay in your office. You hide away in the back of the garage, out of sight for most of the cameras but you have a clear view on the screen with the F1 world feed. Your chest feels tight with anxiety for this race; the heat has been brutal for everyone involved and the tyre management put in place by Pirelli doesn’t fill you with confidence either. 

The first 30 or so laps go by relatively smoothly, but just as you allow yourself to exhale for the first time in what feels like an hour, things go horribly, horribly wrong. Logically you know the whole thing won’t have lasted for much longer than several minutes, but it feels like everything slows down as you watch one of the RedBulls collide into Lewis’ car while trying to overtake in the straight between corners 15 and 16, sending the latter spinning into the barrier on the right before getting bounced to the other side of the track like a ping pong ball before it comes to standstill against the wall. The RedBull tries to correct its own course but can’t help losing control again and sends the Haas that was behind them into the gravel where something seems to snap from the back of the car, causing the driver to lose complete control and slamming sideways into the barriers. Miraculously, the RedBull remains on the track, although it’s obvious the car has some major front wing damage, and makes it into the pitlane without much of a fuss. You keep watching the screen breathlessly, hoping for any signs of movement while you vaguely hear Lewis’ engineer ask Lewis if he’s okay. Instead of confirmation, it remains quiet. Your chest feels too tight to catch your breath as panic claws its way up your throat when you realise that the Haas currently in the barriers is Kevin. Ripping your headset off, you make your way outside and into the pitlane. Air, you need air. Leaning against the wall, you inhale deeply, trying to use the breathing techniques from yoga to calm down. They’re gone, your brain very unhelpfully supplies and you cover your mouth with a hand to stifle the scream that’s threatening to come out. You hear someone talking to you but the words don’t register as his body blocks you from view. Looking up, you see Mark’s concerned face looking back at you and the realisation that Lewis and Kev got hurt hits you all over again. A sob wrecks through you as your knees buckle.

“I’ve got you,” Mark murmurs, pulling your body against his. “They’re gone and I-.. I will never get to tell them-.. Mark-..” you sob into his chest. Mark rubs a hand down your back, letting you cry into his shirt as he tries to sooth you. You thought the heartache you felt after Suzuka was bad, but nothing could have prepared you for this. You can’t breathe, can’t think; the only thought going through your head is how this baby will never get to see their dads, how you lost the loves of your life and that you will never even get the chance to tell them that, how it’s all your fault. And that thought rips you apart all over again.

Hello! To answer your questions

I like the ghost versions of them better but you can do either or.

As far as information to draw them, the center in their chest has wires sticking out in which the length is meant to represent their anger and the side of their face that's missing is also supposed to be bunched up wires. If you feel that's too much work you can omit that though. (I usually do because I'm lazy.) Also, if you would like I can get a Y/N ref up in a few days if you would like to incorporate them in some way.

Also sun carries a lighter. Moon had a matching one but threw it away after a fight shortly after waking up as ghosts.(The yellow one is suns.)

I have a lot of writings on discord I'll post underneath, its a lot and I apologize for that but its basically everything I've laid out so far

The world is a cyberpunk style dystopia but demons and other supernatural creatures exist. They conjoin together on the west end of town known as the Requiem District. Named by the business men and politicians that lament the loss of the good land.

Outside of the district there is an idea of a perfect order, represented by a yellow triangle patch usually placed on clothing. This idea has formed a monster hunter organization that is paid for by taxes and large donations from wealthy members of society. In classic cyberpunk fashion there is a large class disparity. Because of this Y/N carries an old revolver an axe and the reason why their coat is so torn.

Ghosts are souls that choose to live on usually to complete something they consider important or to prevent others from reaching the same fate. Ghosts can be distinguished by their tear drop that they have on one side of their face.

Sun and Moon are known as the Celestial Twins and are both protectors of their home just in different ways. Sun seeks to protect Humans, which he views as belonging. He cares for those who have nowhere else to turn and leads innocents trapped in the walls back to safety. He carries a lighter as guidance, an opposite to Moon's unnatural neon flames. Moon protects the monsters. He uses his flame to lead any hunters deeper into the city, making them believe that civilization is just ahead before he extinguishes it. He traps those looking to do harm and is known and feared by those looking to take back the broken city.

Y/N is this world is a Hunter, but one forced to turn to the forgotten part of the city after being injured by a monster. Both Sun and Moon were killed by a hunter they let stay one night and don't have great views of them.

The forgotten city itself is unnatural with its building only ever growing higher and its alleys ever tighter. The very city creaks to keep those within trapped and those outside of it away. Neon signs flicker to convey messages and plants never able to grow above the skyline no matter how long it has been.

Sun and Moon's relationship is quite strained after their mutual deaths. Sun convinced his brother to let the human stay before they showed their true intentions, Because of that Moon hates himself for failing that night and letting his brother get hurt. He stays away from him out of anger and fear. He is determined to get retribution for the two of them.

Y/N to only make things more complicated as Sun protects humans. And here's one in front of him. They're a hunter though but they did not come seeking harm. The wariness that both the twins feel compounded with the growing intrusion on their home, their city.

Despite sun being a ghost, he chooses not to float and instead walk. His reliance on a lighter for light helps keep him connected to the idea of the human side of this world. He's slow, gentle, and keeps his more inhuman side hidden. Moon is comparison doesn't bother and even tries to amplify his inhuman nature. With floating around and sharp robotic movements and sudden jolts forward. Obviously also his fire which he uses to mimic the unnatural neon lights of the city.

Ghosts are incorporeal but could take on a physical form. However it takes a lot of energy and many choose not too unless they feel absolutely necessary. They can still interact with objects however.

Moon haunts people in their dreams and makes them desperate. he can still interact with objects just not people so he burns and steal supplies. He eventually convinces them to kill themselves since he can't touch them and isn't going to let them leave and bring reinforcements. Y/N is caught up in the middle of this as Sun is trying to help and keep them safe while moon torments them and makes things worse there by also forcing the two twins to interact

Both of the celestial twins are a species of monster known as automatons. Automatons represent an aspect of their environments or some type of technology. This can be radios, speakers, air sirens, basically anything electronical based. Sun and Moon are electric wires. It's why light plays such a big role in their story

The entire world is currently desperate for resources so punk fashion that used to be a subculture now has entered the main stream. I like to imagine moon made not only their clothes but repaired other monsters clothing as well. He's decorated sun's poor torn up sweater multiple times with left over fabric. Cute star and cloud shapes made with the utmost love. Poor sun misses that sweater desperately after his death, unable to find it again.

Omori: Marvel Knights/Midnight Suns AU

Okay. So I'm in a Marvel kick atm, thus I decided to make this AU prompt. Also, this is an AU for my OC too, so Erika will have a major role.

Setup

So, this starts off similar to how I wrote Erika in her bio. However, after the accident, Erika desperately attempts to find ways to bring Mari back and repair her family.

She has been able to communicate with her, but chooses not to tell Sunny, due to concerns regarding on how he'll react. That said, he finds out anyway in secret.

Erika, Mari, and Sunny are completely unaware that demonic forces are watching them. A demon appears before Erika, promising to teach her a ritual to give her exactly what she wants, at the cost of her becoming a Spirit of Vengeance.

Erika chooses to take the risk, having reached several dead ends in a row.

Two years after the accident, Erika finally has a ritual to bring Mari home. She performs it, willingly becoming a Spirit of Vengeance to save Mari...and Mari returns to life as if she never died....

...Only for the reunion to be short-lived as Sunny's taken from the two sisters.

One month later, Erika teaches Mari the same ritual, only for it to fail, forcing Mari to share Erika's curse.

This ultimately leads into them becoming heavily depressed, which only fuels their anger and hatred towards Hell, sparking desires for revenge against it.

GHOST RIDERS/SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE

Erika

The oldest sibling of her, Mari, and Sunny. Takes Johnny Blaze's role. Became a Ghost Rider in an attempt to resurrect Mari. She succeeded, but at the cost of Sunny, which kickstarted her path of vengeance. Mari becoming a Ghost Rider only added fuel to the fire, as Mare now shares Erika's curse.

Erika solely blames herself for everything, thinking that she should've been home on the day of the accident, believing she could have prevented it entirely.

Is a biker for BACA. Personality is similar to what I wrote for her in her bio, with some Johnny Blaze in there.

Mari

Died in an accident similar to canon. Believed in Erika's attempts to bring her home, only to be heartbroken at the loss of Sunny. After her resurrection, Mari begged Erika to teach her the ritual that made her a Ghost Rider in an attempt to save Sunny. Unlike Erika's attempt though, it failed, due to her having died once before.

Mari now shares Erika's curse. She solely blames herself for what's happened.

Biker-in-training. Personality is similar to her Ghost/Resurrected Mari and H/O AU counterparts I made.

Unlike Erika, Mari is far more noble. Erika is a pure antihero, though she is respectful sometimes.

She is kinda inspired by Danny Ketch’s role as the Ghost Rider, but not much, if at all. Admittedly, I feel hesitant about giving her his role, given how writers like to make Danny a temporary villain sometimes for no real reason.

HALF-DEMONS/VAMPIRES

Hero

The more demonic of the brothers and the most morally-grey member of the group. He is conflicted between what he SHOULD do and what he WANTS to do. He believes that Erika is to blame for Sunny's demise and Mari's curse, which Kel is understandably angry about, as is Mari.

As such, he will be in conflict with Erika if Kel and Mari are not around. Of course, he won't succeed in his efforts, due to Erika being far stronger than him.

Kel

The more vampiric of the brothers. He struggles with his vampire instincts during full moons, super moons, and blue moons, so he has to sneak into a blood bank in order to keep himself in check. The last thing he wants is to be something he's not. He supports Erika and Mari's quest, albeit indirectly.

He doesn't want to get involved in their chaos to the point where he'd only get in their way. Is frustrated by this and Hero's morally-grey path, which has sparked some bad blood between the brothers.

MUTANTS/MAGES

Aubrey

The Mutant of the group. She's a combination of Magik (yes, this is an actual X-Men character) and Wolverine. She has some knowledge and capabilities in sorcery, but prefers brute force and her claws. She is similar to canon, but has some Logan in her. She couldn't bring herself to resurrect Sunny, believing that she'd fail regardless.

She doesn't blame anyone but the unfairness of the universe in general. To her, life is unfair to everyone and if it weren't unfair, terrible things would never happen to anyone.

Basil

Basil serves as the Doctor Strange of this AU. He is more or less similar to most HIKKI/OMARI-type AU versions of him, but he is less resentful in general. He's just sad at how powerless he feels, which is why he picked up sorcery. He tried many times to bring back Sunny on his own...and failed every time.

Here, Basil blames no one but his own powerlessness.

About Sunny....

So, I honestly don't know what I wanna do for Sunny. I know I want him to have a major role, but I don't know what characters he'd fit with.

Currently, the idea is that he'll be brought back, but under the influence of someone else....

Whether that be Dracula bringing him back to become essentially Morbius, Khonshu bringing him back to become his Moon Knight, or Sunny being resurrected to become a Ghost Rider by the forces of Hell.

Actually I only thought is this yesterday and this was added recently but I think I'm mad at the infantilization as well like if someone has sun's anxiety for example suddenly people are unwilling to see them as anything but a pure and if anyone dare give them conquence for their actions the fandom would start hating it hurts these characters in the Long run I see Charlie and sun being able to improve from tough love and I suspect alot of characters would fall under the same category.

And for the occasional moments where love and kindness are ineffectual, I also know spells that, as my Silver Moon would say, “really stomp the asses of whoever gets in my way”. That kind of magic is my specialty, after all.”

As a member of the ecclesiastical order called The Brotherhood Of Shadowed Suns, who are a collections of priests, scholars, mages and more from around the world dedicated to ensuring the world is prepared for the worst, Davrick was a wunderkind among even the specialists there. A prodigy at an exceptionally young age who spent his entire life among the various abbeys of the order, his gift with words was only ever excelled by the sheer kindness and openness he shares with everyone. Allowing him access to incredible stores of knowledge that had been hidden away for centuries with but a few words. It was this ability to ferret out long forgotten grimoires, tomes and sources of knowledge and information that prompted the order to grant him Archmagus status at the age of 18, earning him the title of “The Will Of Secrets”.

And it was this same ability to find power that lead his path towards that of a powerful warrior on the verge of destroying a motley of drunken fools messing with her. Forcing Davrick to step between them. When asked why he did it, he admitted to “not wanting their blood on her hands and their deaths on her conscience”. This earned him the respect of Thea Leh Rühk, the daughter of Hüda Leh Vahh, queen of the kingdom of Drüsher. And two years later, they were wed  under the Valiant Tree in the Fålku Forest near Vah-Krynn Keep, Thea's home and capital of Drüsher.

But Davrick is not just the “Will Of Secrets” for his ability to find lost libraries and spells. For he holds a terrible secret, which if revealed would lead to terrible tragedies. A secret that will change the world... or destroy it entirely. All the while knowing that if he acts upon his own secret, it threatens the stability his love is struggling with. But soon, he will have no choice.

That’s the problem with secrets, you see. Sooner or later, they get found out...

Lore Dump #1: Society and Species

As one may guess, this starts us off with the general context for the characters and setting of No Release. This post delves into what our characters are and why the locations they inhabit are important.

We start off with the division of the continent they live on. The western side of their home is an undeveloped wild land, where citizens tend to adapt to life using their primal feral forms, while the east is alike to a quaint community somewhere in between a simple village and a medieval town in terms of advancement and style. These people tend to prefer their more advanced forms, also known as skill forms.

Those who inhabit these sectors are known as Shifters due to their ability to shift in between a feral and human form. There are two other classes, however. Hidden deep in the woods of the Western Hemisphere is a group of shifters who can mold their bodies in any way they so choose, known as Multishifters. Their social structure is completely independent from any other, with emphasis on loyalty and militarism. Their leaders are known as the Great Commands, they lead the forces of people and divulge ranks to those they deem fit. Multishifters tend to be quite intelligent, it takes skill to morph your body without hurting yourself, it takes delicate patience.

Arguably farther into seclusion are the Cosmarian sects, divided in two by the God they choose to worship. In the west dwells the Sularians, worshipping the god of the Sun and Heat. Their name is, unsurprisingly, Sulari. These people tend to be easy going, inviting those not involved with their religion to come and go as they please, no need to pledge their loyalty as long as they bring gifts to justify their place. Emphasis is put on the importance of enjoying your life while it lasts, burn as bright as a flame before you eventually fade away. Their camp is located at the base of the Mountains on a grassy hill perfect for running and dancing through the fields.

The Lunarians tend to be a stricter bunch. Also dwelling by the mountains, however on the eastern side, they take much more care in keeping this place a well guarded secret. Any who dare set foot in their domain shall be converted and taught the ways of worship towards Lukara, the god of the Moon and Sea. They value knowledge and the passing of legacies from kin to kin, no one’s light shall ever fully die. As of recently they have been forced out of seclusion due to the necessity of eastern forces to drive back those who wish to destroy them.

Surrounding the continent and circling towards the middle are the Mountains, towering and intimidating chunks of stone which provide the population with their shifting abilities. Overexposure to the shifter energy produced by the Mountains will cause one to melt, their skin deteriorating as their atoms catastrophically collide with one another. At the highest peak rests a safe zone, with a sigil etched deep in stone stained with dark and ancient blood. A long forgotten village resides in this place and await the return of the Death God.

That’s a lot of writing and I didn’t even touch on the important landmarks yet. Alas I am tired, and want to collapse.

Venus/Jupiter aspects in the natal chart...

Will make someone generally likable, charming, generous, and agreeable- especially if it's a conjunction, trine, or sextile you're working with. They'll be the person who might be incredibly popular or someone whose creativity [Venus] is magnified [Jupiter]. They might be very beautiful or well known for their good looks. However, throw a square to Chiron in the mix and this individual might have a hard time believing it. Since Chiron is the place in our chart where we wear our inner wound and a square indicates conflict, the pain to either of these planets has to do with beliefs, how we're educated, and the overall philosophy of life. One could perhaps have a lot of doubt as to whether they are truly attractive.  They could be bullied or hated for their attractiveness or popularity. On the other hand, Jupiter Squaring Chiron can make someone have severe wounds concerning their spiritual beliefs. It's common to see this aspect in charts of people who were forced into a particular belief system or religion. In addition, it's also an indicator of those who were abused by organized religion. Not to scare any of you with significant placements within this house synastrically or in composite, but remember what I said in Astro Musings 1 about Neptune? Wherever he is, there's going to be a feeling that something is hidden. Deception will be a big factor or just naivete or idealism. More so if the aspects in this house are squares/oppositions. With the Trines and Conjunctions, the energy here can feel incredibly spiritual and binding. [Don't bust out the champagne yet, I said FEEL binding- it doesn't mean it necessarily will be]. Sorry. North Node/Neptune might make you two dream of each other or have this strange 6th sense concerning them and their energy. Moon and Neptune will make two people have an uncanny knack for knowing what the other is thinking. It will feel downright Soul-Mate-esque. The same if Mercury and Neptune are joined.

Aquarius Moon in the 5th just like these other aspects, can be an indicator of one who might have a fear of motherhood or pregnancy in general. In addition, One with a Cancer Lilith in the 6th might choose career over motherhood. In a woman’s chart, it can also be an indicator of someone who has reproductive [4th house/moon] issues [especially if there are afflictions].

Lilith in the 6th house may feel that they give more than they get. They might also reject the idea of daily work and routine or general discipline. There can be scandal’s at work as well. Believe it or not, when it comes to “jealousy” over material things, it’s not Scorpio. Taurean/Leo placements [typically risings and Suns and moons] and especially underdeveloped will be the types to hate on you for having something [Usually clothing, car, house, etc] they want. Scorpios, though famous infamous for the jealousy stereotype, will usually show this trait only in romantic entanglements. This is because Scorpio is a water sign. Their primary mode of operation has to do with the emotional realm.

Mars in the 10th House is usually seen in those who make athletics part of their career.

Contrary to popular opinion, Gemini isn’t the only sign that can be a “jack of all trades”. In fact, Libra Suns often fit in in various roles/professions. are the placement[s] I see the most in those who have a deep skepticism of Astrology. Their belief system can be rather rigid [Saturn] which makes it harder/ for them to be open minded [Jupiter] to other schools of thought.

Each Planet/Sign rules a day of the week. Whichever day you were born can inadvertently make you take on some of the traits of that sign, regardless of what your “big 3″ are.

Answer:  Haha, nah, Lan Wangji was fairly sure Sizhui wasn’t Wei Ying’s, for several reasons. One, Wen Yuan was born before the wen remnants even went to the Burial Mount. Lan Wangji saw the small child amongst the escape party that rainy night at the  concentration camp. Also, Wen Ning was several years younger than them, which would make it kind of weird if he were the dad. Before Wen Ning became the Ghost General, everyone just knew him as Wen Qing’s kid brother.  Lan Wangji, however, absolutely believed Jiang Yan to be Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian’s child even before Wei Wuxian was resurrected...

When Yan’er turned ten, Jiang Cheng decided it was time for her to accompany him to Cultivation Conferences. Most sect heirs began their training this way; Jiang Cheng still remembered his first time, trailing nervously in Jiang Fengmian’s wake. 

Heiresses, in comparison, were few and far between. Even head disciples were rarely girls. Jiang Wanyin had no children. His head disciple was his heiress, and his heiress was Jiang Yueqian (江月千). 

长烟一空 - when the smoke clears; 皓月千里 - the moon casts a thousand miles of light 浮光跃金 - which dances upon the water, golden 静影沉壁 - the shadow of the moon itself like jade underwater*

“Shifu.”

Speaking of the devil, here she comes, walking measuredly down the long stairs of Jinlintai towards Jiang Cheng, the epitome of an obedient, filial disciple. It had only been a day and Jiang Yan already had the world fooled. Only Jiang Cheng knew how impossibly obstinate and utterly uncontrollable she was when her mind was fixed.

"Ah, Jiang-zongzhu, this is..." Spotting her, Lan Xichen glanced beyond his shoulder, the question dangling in the sentence he did not deem necessary to finish.

Unbeknownst to Lan Xichen, the child that made her way over was his niece by blood. Jiang Cheng was acutely aware that Yan'er actually resembled Lan Wangji a great deal, and despite having weighed the risks and gains against each other repeatedly before deciding to bring Jiang Yan along, now he was no longer so certain in his calculations. Lan Xichen was not a simple peasant; what if he detected a trace or a hint of her heritage between the furrow of her brows or the curve of her eyes? What if...

Jiang Cheng turned, raising an arm towards Jiang Yan, an introduction ready, but whatever words he had prepared in advance died on on his tongue when he laid eyes on the girl. Suddenly, he was no longer worried that others would suspect her to be Lan Wangji's child.

There was a red ribbon in her hair.

Yan'er stopped at a polite distance from the two older men and bowed in perfect form.

Jiang Cheng's heart stuttered violently in his chest at the sight of that red ribbon falling sideway over her small shoulder. If souls could travel, his would have left him in an instant. He stood in disincorporated panic, wrestling with the nauseating sensation of being ripped from his reality and tossed so far into the distant past that he felt whole again.

"Shifu, Lan-zongzhu." Yan'er greeted.

Shifu. Lan-zongzhu. In another world, another life, she would not need to be so formal. She could easily bound up to them, carefree, cooing jiujiu and bobo and ask to be bailed out from whatever trouble she caused.

Instead, he was only her shifu, and Lan Xichen, a stranger in her life. It would be laughable, if fate had not dealt them each such a wretched hand.

Jiang Cheng stepped towards her. “Where did you get this?” 

Jiang Yan looked up in surprise, her hand reaching up and making an aborted motion to touch the red ribbon in her hair.

“Qin-shenshen gave it to me. Is it not nice?” 

Qin Su. Jiang swallowed down a sigh of relief. Earlier, the Jin servants had sent word that Jin-fu'ren had baked treats for Jin Ling, and the boy had wasted no time dragging his favourite person - his Yan'er jiejie - to his aunt's place with him. Clearly, Qin Su had seized the opportunity to dote on the girl in place of the daughter she never had. Qin Su meant well. She couldn't have known. She's never even met Wei Wuxian.

In this state, Jiang Cheng could barely bring himself to look at his disciple, but he forced himself nonetheless to kneel and tuck an errant strand of baby hair behind her ear. “Very pretty.” 

Yan'er smiled.

Jiang Cheng could cry.

They'd been lucky thus far. Yunmeng's Jiang-xiao-guniang was born a taciturn girl who did not like to smile or laugh, not even when she was expected to for polite society. Whether she was happy or sad, one would be hard pressed to tell. Only in front of her master Jiang Cheng or her Jin Ling-didi did she elect to reveal the full expanse of her emotions. Yet, whenever Jiang Cheng bore witness to that smile as warm and incandescent as sunlight, he could not help but shudder somewhere deep. Recalling the radiant days of years gone by, he could still see - every time he closed his eyes - his er-shijie smiling at him in the very same fashion.

So...they'd been very lucky thus far, that Yan'er was not so like her mother in that way, not so free and generous with her smiles. Or else this devastating secret —Wei Wuxian's only wish — would not be able to withstand the test of time.

"Very pretty, Yan'er." He reaffirmed. "Did you thank Jin-furen?"

"I did."

Jiang Cheng stood and turned back to face Lan Xichen, and realized they were being joined by two others: Lan Qiren and Lan Wangji. The latter of two stared directly down at Jiang Yan, visibly stricken and unblinking, as though he'd just seen a ghost. After all, he had often been on the receiving end of that signature smile once upon a time. It was probably not a smile he'd ever expected to see again in this life.

In hindsight, perhaps Jiang Cheng should have made Yan'er wear her uniform like all the other disciples instead of her favourite indigo robes.

“Ah, Wangji, shufu -” Lan Xichen was quick to react, sensing animosity brewing in the disquiet that stretched taut between his younger brother and his fellow sect master. "Jiang-zongzhu, perhaps you would introduce us?"

The First Jade smiled kindly down at Yan'er. She returned his kindness with a polite nod.

Lan Wangji finally dragged his gaze up to meet Jiang Cheng's, a rarity since their violent parting at Nevernight. The venerated Hanguang-jun had developed a habit of pretending that Jiang Wanyin of Lotus Pier did not exist at all. He probably preferred, dreamed of it even, if Jiang Cheng had been one to fall of the cliff that day. He probably hated himself for not shoving him into the molten abyss when he could to avenge the love of his life.

Love. What did Lan Wangji know of love? Jiang Cheng sneered inwardly. One did not compromise one's love and abandon her, ill and with child, to bleed out alone in a cave tainted by demonic spirits.

One did not watch idly as one's love and her people are reduced to ashes for the power and greed of men either....

Jiang Cheng buried the offending thought, too familiar with Wen Qing's ghost that still haunted him in his moments of weakness. Without breaking gaze, he laid a hand on the crown of Jiang Yan's head and said, "This is my first disciple, Jiang Yan, Jiang Yueqian."

"Yueqian greets Zewu-jun, Lan-lao-xiansheng, Hanguang-jun."

Jiang Cheng watched as the icy fire within Lan Wangji's eyes flicker, fizzle, and extinguish entirely. Jiang Cheng's vague silence had allowed him the space to make his assumptions, and he had assumed the most insane explanation.

Is it so difficult for you, wondered Jiang Cheng. To believe that she could be yours? So impossible, that you would choose to doubt Wei Wuxian instead?

Fine.

Hanguang-jun. The venerated Second Jade of Gusu. That's all you'll ever be. Yan'er will never call you Father.

Jiang Cheng decided he had spent enough time today making nice. "Zewu-jun, it's getting late. If nothing else, I will be taking my leave. The conference continues tomorrow. I will see you then. Yan'er, come."

Yan'er bowed again to the senior cultivators, perfectly well-mannered. A dash of surprise crossed those bright eyes, however, when Jiang Cheng took her hand to lead her away. She followed wordlessly, trusting him, and did not look back once at the Lans she left behind.

Now that Yan'er was out in society, there would surely be rumours. No matter. Rumours were nothing Jiang Wanyin could not withstand. How ironic, indeed, that this was to be his lot in life.

For the first time, Jiang Cheng felt he could understand his father.

The Moon; Showing Love/Needing Love

 The Moon is a vital component to our personalities. It can show us how we go about showing love for others (and ourselves) and in what aspects we need love. Within the birth chart, positive interchanges between the Moon and personal planets can demonstrate a healthy and developed Moon sign; this is especially true with positive interchanges to Venus. These individuals hold special value in showing love and comfort for others and themselves. We can see a similar outcome in synastry charts when one individual’s Moon has positive interchanges with the other person’s Sun, Moon, or Venus. A positive interchange between one person’s Sun and another person’s Moon demonstrates the most natural compatibility two people could have. These relationships often have the most ease because one individual’s core or character (Sun) aids and uplifts the other’s needs (Moon). How they show love: An Aries’ innate curiosity is their not-so-subtle way of demonstrating love. Cancers are very sentimental about physical togetherness, so quality face-to-face time is an important aspect to how they show love.

What they need: Cancers need that natural nurturing quality returned. As much as they want to create security and comfort for their loved ones, they too need others to shield for them. Virgo Moon

How they show love: Virgos choose their words carefully and eloquently and this is how we can acknowledge their way of showing love. Though they are not one of the outright expressive Moon signs such as Cancer, they’ll know exactly what to say or write to make someone feel loved. Though cliché for a Virgo, acts of service is also their way of demonstrating care. They don’t mind doing the small things just to make someone’s life a little easier. Virgos also love leaving things better than when they first found them; physical improvements equate to mental improvements. Pedro's Special Birthday Reading 1

Happy Birthday, Pedro! 🎁🎂🎉🥳 Today is Pedrito's birthday and I have made some special readings on his 47th year that starts today. The first one is this amazing (and hard) Celtic Cross spread I'm gonna talk about now that was intended to show what the Tarot cards have for him this year until his next bday. I didn't focus on anything specific, not romance or work, but everything. A reading about his year. So, let's start.

The cards I pulled for this Celtic Cross were: The Hanged Man, 3 of Pentacles, 6 of Wands, The Sun, 5 of Wands, The Moon, 2 of Wands, Justice, 7 of Cups reversed and The Chariot.

His first card is The Hanged Man. Even though it looks like it's a bad card, it's actually not. This one is showing how committed he is at this moment in life. He is giving all he's got and he's dedicated to it. I took it as his committment to work right now, to his career. The man is full on into it. What might hold him back is the 3 of Pentacles. It's warning him to not let Ego get in his way. He's gonna need to accept help and ideas from other people, and to not let all his success get to his head or he could experience some emotional instability and anxiety issues. And talk about success! The head card is the 6 of Wands and it's showing what's in the surface right now for him, it's his present moment, and it's him full of energy and positive vibes and a great energy for success. Whatever he does this year is full of incredibly strong positive energy, the odds are at his favor and he's gonna have the strength and the will to make it happen the best way. That leads us to The Sun, that is the crucial point, the Name of The Rose, and it represents his most basic desires, what's really under the surface and the reason and moving force of his present moment and present cards. The Sun is light and warmth, consciouness, self-development, clarity, joy, fame. Pedro wants The Sun, with its warmth and light and success. He wants to BE in the Sun, metaphorically speaking. However, the 5 of Wands are his past influences, what he went through before and is now over. This card shows us how misdirected he was in the past. How hard he worked to see no results. The storm he went through, how much of an outsider he felt, never belonging and always hurt by others' opinions. He went through great doubt, he felt like he was making so much effort but things were not working out and he didn't know which way to go. He was frustrated and confused and he didn't know what to choose. But that is over now, and he needs to let go of this past for good.

Then, we have his future influences. The card is The Moon. His immediate future is warning him to not let this emotional weight from the past get in his way. He could get stuck in it and it's important to get out of his emotional comfort zone to not go backwards in his journey to self-development. Since the card is upright, it could mean he DOES have the strength to let it go, to not be emotionally attached to the past. He can reach the balance between mental, concrete and abstract. He might even return to these memories, the past and what's under the surface, but he will not be stuck. His current attitude is the 2 of Wands, and this is the action card. A lot of fire energy, growth and movement. The man is going for it and going hard, and I mean for his projects in life. He may have some challenges to face, but he's got what's needed to conquer them. He's dedicated, committed and full of energy. Then Justice is telling us how the world is seeing him, his friends, family, colleagues. They see him as a very balanced person, as someone who has reached a point of balance between emotional and rational, and he's also the fair man, the one that can listen to both sides, the man who can BE on both sides, if he judges it to be the correct answer. His hopes and fears are the 7 of Cups reversed. His biggest fear is to not have a choice, to not have opportunities and to be stuck to just one possibility. Remember we always say he's very flexible, always in movement and ever changing? He wants to keep that, he wants to have all the opportunities and possibilities and his biggest fear will be to limit himself or to be limited and to not have them. But fret not, Pedro, your closing card is The Chariot. There's only progress for you ahead! This card is saying he's on the right path, and he's moving forward, fast and strong, and this is gonna be a year of progress and movement for him!

neptune represents issues which are frequently unconscious, so all of this may operate without your awareness. if projected, the negative aspects of neptune become more emphasised. the more you reject it in your own life, the more likely it is that you’ll meet it in exaggerated ways outside yourself.

neptune in the 1st house

tends to be the kind of person who waits and sees, but your outward behavior doesn’t begin to describe what goes on inside. you feel connected to your environment because you’re aware of subtle energies, you pick up impressions from others they’re usually unaware to be giving. you find yourself in the uncomfortable position of knowing (beyond a verbal level) what others’ unconscious motivations are, what’s hidden behind their civility. you tend to be very idealistic, preferring to live in harmony: peaceful non-demanding relationships and quiet and aesthetically pleasing surroundings. you choose to think kindly of others, whether they reciprocate or not; your sensitivity gives you a natural compassion. you can be most charming, often whimsical, sometimes romantic, and usually empathic. you seem approachable and often receptive to a degree others find startling and deeply gratifying (if not a little scary lol). you want life to be perfect for yourself and others, and your desire for a better world can be channeled into artistic creative pursuits, social work, or mere daydreaming.

you often struggle with personal identity. you may be so open to others that you pick up their moods without realising it. you tend to mimic, unconsciously, the strong characteristics of the last person you were with. don’t become an emotional sponge; define your emotional boundaries and accept it is necessary for your growth to establish a firm identity. another thing i noticed about you is that you guys don’t mind suffering; no, i’m not saying you don’t hate it (everyone does!) but you seem to accept it when you don’t have to. you put others first and feel that it’s best to sacrifice your own well-being than to be responsible for someone else’s suffering.

there’s almost always a strong awareness of and interest in spiritual energies with this placement. you may actually be psychic, whether or not you’re comfortable with the ability. you may deeply religious, although not conventionally since institutions don’t satisfy you; you feel at home with a belief system you know, from personal experience, exists. your lack of interest in the real world can lead you into seriously bad habits like drug abuse or eating disorders and due to your dislike of physical activity, this can quickly damage your (often sensitive) health. alternatively, this placement can also lead to arrogance, depending on the sun and midheaven placements/aspects.

neptune in the 2nd house

you tend to be idealistic with the use of money and personal resources, not terribly attached to them. you look at them as temporary and although sad to part with something you own, you can let it go where others simply cannot. there’s an indifferent attitude towards finances, income and etc. some of you are v generous and will give things away to people who can truly admire it, believing nothing truly belongs to anyone. this outlook satisfies you greatly, making you easygoing but also easily being taken advantage of. this sort of gives you a fairy-tale attitude towards your money - it’s either always there when needed, or simply one of the world’s idiotic, materialistic preoccupations. you may be unpractical or simply forgetful with resources; not willing to sit down and figure what’s the best buy and choosing to go with intuition. purchases usually go by what you want rather than what you can afford (my friend has no idea how much is on her bank acc and doesn’t care to figure it out. she just doesn’t care lol). you should actually read the small print in contracts and not trust just anyone with your money.

alternatively, there may be a strong tendency to overvalue material things (neptune = beliefs in the house of money and possessions), specially if there’s an earth emphasis in the chart, making you inclined to putting great care and time into upkeep. you usually want your things to look aesthetic™️. 

there’s also a strong creative tendency; it may be expressed in various forms but it will certainly be inherent. you need at least periodic access to music and inspiration, including the outdoors where you can soak up peace and serenity. since the 2nd house also relates to sensual pleasures, you probably expect these to provide a kind of ultimate ecstasy. in short, this placement forces you to face up to your tendencies to create illusions about money, possessions, sex, or creative pursuits. don’t expect more from them than they can provide.

neptune in the 3rd house

on one level, this placement can confuse and scatter the brain, giving it vagueness and disorganized thinking. sometimes, however, the mind exhibits uncanny insights into the subtleties of the environment. you sense the hidden nuances and meanings behind what’s being said. what you miss in terms of precise analytical ability, you can by being able to view the big-picture more clearly. there’s a danger to this however; your desire to view what’s beautiful and ideal around you can give a kind of selective perception in which only the good is seen and what doesn’t fit into that is ignored.

you don’t usually feel comfortable expressing yourself through normal channels of communication. what you have to say can be better demonstrated through dance, poetry, song, or picture (painted or taken). there’s often a shyness in the early school situation, which manifested in mental illness (my friend has dyslexia and this was a hard time for her) or simply confusion.

since this house also rules siblings, there may be some sacrifices to be made in relation to them; they may be a problem or have difficulties. since neptune fuses the boundary between the self and others, you may feel you’re responsible for their problems or everything which happens in the immediate environment (also ruled by the 3rd). if you don’t have siblings, you probably longed for the companionship of it, an idealized vision of what a sibling is. i also noticed this neptune placement showing exceptional ability as teachers - specially working w children who have learning difficulties. they can understand ways to communicate with and understand the child better than anyone else.

neptune in the 4th house

i have this one and it’s a loaded position: an unconscious planet in an unconscious house. to feel safe in a secure nest is fundamental, though that’s often quite unconscious. your idea of haven includes a lovely home, w lots of food and someone who will take care of your needs. there’s an assumption that the mother, early home life and emotional security all need to be perfect. that is, all needs will be met with ease, and there’s no upset or disappointment in these areas. the mom or other primary caregiver, is supposed to be there when needed, regardless of other commitments. the illusions connected to the 4th house (remember, neptune refers to illusions which must be exposed and released) are deeply intimate; and any threat to them is profoundly threatening to you.

neptune in the 4th generally has to overcome the strong need for the nurturing parent to not only be perfect but to continue being so into your adulthood. you have great difficulty separating from them; you may never fully do it. it doesn’t matter if they actually lived to your expectations, for their importance is in your head - the parent you idealized or pretended they were. sometimes, however, this desire focuses on the home rather than the parent. in this case, the childhood home was either perfect, or mysterious and elusive. you can react by trying to re-create the exact same nest.

with this placement, nurturing yourself becomes the ultimate value, a way to find supreme satisfaction. you can also make the most amazing caretakers and companions. your need to nurture others is a complicated expression of your own hunger to be taken care of; you give too much and eventually become resentful when no one appreciates your (not asked for) sacrifices. you might also project neptunian traits onto your parent; they may be v spiritual and loving, vague and confusing, or even absent, so you were left w only a fantasy of what they could - and should - have been. they might have also been a victim (similar to pisces moon) and you might’ve felt obligated to save them. 

you feel like caring involves being swallowed up completely, and it’s something you either constantly yearn or are terrified of. you also feel if your (unrealistic) emotional security needs aren’t met, you won’t survive the disappointment (you did, and you will again). neptune in the 4th can make the most patient and loving parents, w a strong sense of their emotional bonding and spiritual responsibilities. you will do more to create an ideal parent/child relationship than anyone else and constantly remind others of how important it is to strive to be the best parent one can be.

neptune in the 5th house

this combo leads to a definite charisma, an aura of charm and power and importance (timothee, angelina, mlk, drake, etc). it’s a strong indication of some kind of acting ability, though it may be used as a teacher or a salesman rather than on stage. you’re likely to work in some area where applause and respect can be immediate and experienced personally. you need this; neptune undermines the self-confidence so you depend on others’ feedback to measure your worth. this can be a deadly dependency because even the highest praise and respect can truly fulfill the yearning to be loved unconditionally, only provide a temporary high, making you forever vulnerable.

some of the illusions related to this placement include the need to have perfect relationships and children, and the perfect artistic creation. whenever one expects perfection, they’re doomed to disappoitment, although the process of disillusionment may be needed to rethink your outlook on life. you may expect your love life to provide a complete sense of fulfillment. you can make a v romantic partner, the type to love cheesy romantic things and music, who can surround your lover with utmost affection. however, you might also expect them to sense your wishes and always meet them; or expect yourself to always be sensitive and caring at al times, regadless of your moods and/or needs.

you need to re-evaluate your tendency to romanticize lovers instead of seeing them for who they are. you may also harbor illusions towards children, your own or all, which hamper your ability to deal w them realistically and effectively. there’s a difficulty in developing a strong sense of self-worth, or maybe fancying yourself to be far more important than you really are. this placement is associated w a great deal of inspired creativity, however, and if other chart factors support it, it indicates exceptional artistic talent. with humility and self-awareness, you can use your magnetism to uplift those who have lost all confidence.

neptune in the 6th house

w this placement, neptune is in its polar opposite, since 6th house relates to virgo and neptune relates to pisces. this house is about the world as it is and how to manage it in a day-to-day basis. neptunian energy is the opposite: it yearns for and seeks to unite w the cosmos, which transcends this world. how can these two work this out?

when they’re well integrated in the chart, you can dream of neptune while using the practical 6th house skills to plan and organise the dream you wish to make true some day. it can direct the neptunian energy to envision something better, prettier, more creative and inspiring. without this, the 6th house is merely a housekeeping unit - a drive to organise and plan, but for what purpose? neptune supplies it with purpose and the house repays it with practical skills, usually related to some artistic work.

however, if the energies are at odds, there is the need to dream vs. the need to be practical and realistic. you feel a strong need to busy yourself w details and make everything as efficient as possible, tidying up and even criticising others (negative virgo energy). you may expect far too much from others and yourself, never able to say “no” when more work is piled on you. another expression is not being able to keep your shit together; you forget, are disorganized, feel tired and drained of energy, get sick often, or feel generally unfulfilled. my friend, for example, often seeks jobs for its glamorous aspects, only to get swamped by details and routine.

Calum was running. His legs carried him through the overgrown forest and over fallen trees. The wind around him bit at his skin, leaving him gasping for air until all he could feel was the burn in his lungs, one that was different than the burn the cigarettes he smoked gave him. Behind him, the footsteps were getting closer and closer, never stumbling like Calum had. In his arms, the beating heart pumped, racing and then slowing in random increments that left Calum's blood running cold. He hadn't remembered the way back to the cottage, the thick forest trapping him in and spitting him out somewhere unknown. The lighthouse had been the only thing high enough above the trees that Calum could see, his legs burning as he ran closer and closer towards it. Somewhere behind the wind, the ocean waves crashed into the coast and shook the world beneath him, making him stumble whenever a particularly large wave hit.

He was alone and running from something he couldn't see.

As Calum ran, the forest disappeared behind him and all that was in front of him was rolling hills of green. The footsteps behind him had stopped and Calum leaned over himself to catch his breath, the cold air burning his throat as he tried to listen for anything or anyone else. Stepping towards the hills, where the ocean roared right below, Calum's eyes watched the lighthouse in awe. The light illuminated the world around him in glimpses, making its round across the landscape to warn ships that would never come of the land. The father Calum got from the edge of the forest, the darker the sky became, leaving him to wait until the spinning light was cast his way in order to take the steps up the rocky hillside.

"Calum?" a voice said behind him, echoing through his body as rocking the Earth much like the dark blue waves beneath him.

Calum turned sharply, his eyes scanning the forest at the bottom of the hill, searching for that voice in the darkness. The whirl of the lighthouse, which got louder and louder with every pass of the light, made Calum dizzy. His head hurt with every pass of the bright light, but he kept searching until his eyes finally landed on her. The wind had whipped her hair across her face, her clothes soaked with mud and leaves that left her shivering at the edge of the forest. Calum wondered if she had been chased her too, how she had managed to outrun something that Calum barely did.

"Maeve?" he called out, his voice lost in the wind and the waves, the sleeves of his sweater ripped to shreds by the trees behind her, "Come on! It's safe in the lighthouse, we have to get there!"

"I-I can't! I have to go back to the cabin!" she sighed, Calum's ears aching at the pain in her voice, "I can't go with you! I have to stay there!"

Calum frowned, watching as Maeve turned back around and ventured deeper into the forest. His body ached, his escape making his legs burn and his joints ache front he cold, but he took another glance at the lighthouse. One last look at the promised safety before he rushed down the hill and headed towards the woods once more, calling out Maeve's name.

Calum woke with a start, his lungs aching for a breath of fresh air as his eyes looked around at the dark room, trying to gain a sense as to where he was. The bed under him was soft, the mattress pillowy and not at all like his hard mattress back home. Next to him, Maeve's soft voice was slow and even Calum's mind too panicked to listen to the words she was whispered. But the softness of her skin against Calum's was what truly made his mind wake up and made his eyes meet hers in the darkness. He was sure he looked like an animal caught in the middle of a dark road, his face illuminated only by the sliver of light coming in through the blinds of the window. But Maeve's voice brought him back down, brought his breathing into a steady rise and fall of his chest until his forehead was leaning against hers.

"Hey, I'm right here," Maeve whispered, one hand cupping the side of his face as the other was placed over his heart, feeling the pounding of it against her palm, "You're okay." Calum's lips found hers in the dark, the soft sigh that left him as their lips connected making him forget for a second all about the lighthouse and the forest.

Maeve was on his lap, their bodies moving in a slow and lazy rhythm before Calum would even remember the dream. He was lost in the way her body curved into him, how her back arched back into the palm that was keeping her steady. The bed was squeaking with every move of their hips, hidden under the groan and soft grunts leaving them both as they melted into one another. With his eyes adjusted to the dark room, Calum could see how Maeve's face twisted in pleasure, her nose scrunched up and her bottom lip trapped between her teeth. Calum was sure his own face looked pretty similar, his grip of Maeve's waist tightening when he felt her clench around him, the waves of pleasure rolling off of her as she got closer and closer. Calum's hand, which had been shaking in fear only a few minutes before moved between their bodies, his thumb running through the hair at her mound before moving lower and finding the bundle of nerves that had made Maeve gasped and whimper the night before.

"Come on, pretty girl," Calum breathed out, his thighs tensing underneath Maeve as he rocked up into her, "Let go for me,"

And Calum had never heard such a pretty noise like the one’s Maeve made.

"Choose life?" Maeve whispered into the darkness, her fingers slotting in between Calum's.

"Mhm," Calum breathed out, his eyes unfocused in the darkness of the walls and the bouncing of their voices, his mind still reeling from the high she'd brought him, "From the movie Trainspotting."

Maeve's shifted, moving onto her side as she rested her head on Calum's chest, her fingers tracing over the words against his skin again and again as she listened to Calum whispered about the movie and how it had changed his outlook on life. She felt the goosebumps under her touch, could feel the blush that ran down from his face to his chest. Her lips had been leaving trails of kisses on his skin, her smile pressing against his skin whenever Calum's voice stuttered from the kisses left on his skin. They'd been lying there for what could have been hours, in Maeve's mind, both enjoying the afterglow of being together in more ways than one.

"I like it," she whispered, placing a soft kiss over the peak of his nipple, "Always question the world, huh?"

"Always." he breathed out, his hands exploring the softness of Maeve's curves.

Maeve had decided that the Scottish air was infused with magic. Every day, she’d try and spend as much time outside as she could. In the beginning, it had been to give Calum some alone time; but after their eventful night and early morning, Maeve has needed the fresh air to clear her mind and stretch out her sore limbs. Her walks in the forest had been a lifesaver in the beginning too, they gave her peace and quiet and a sense of calm that hadn’t been around since the crack of a bridge had forced her to lodge with a stranger. Well, not so much a stranger anymore.

“Or is he?” Maeve thought to herself, a frown on her face as she leaned against a tree to tighten her shoelaces, “All you two do is talk and get to know one another, Maeve, you’re not so naïve to sleep with a stranger!”

In the short time that she knew Calum, she had found a lot of herself in him. She didn’t know if that was a good or bad thing, but that hadn’t mattered last night or this morning when she woke up wrapped in his arms. She knew that Calum had a passion for learning and exploring, much like she did. She knew that Calum had been in a different situation than her, relationship-wise, but that hadn’t meant he was broken. If she was being honest with herself, Calum had been in the exact opposite of her situation. She wondered if he knew that too, if he resented the fact that she could leave someone so easily and not be affected by it or if he sympathized with her. Maeve felt the pain in his voice that night when Calum spoke about his ex-fiancé like she was the stars and the moon before the supernova wiped them out of his universe. She knew that he had loved her and he wanted a life with her, even if he had rushed into things.

She knew Calum just wanted to feel a love that would never be there.

The sun had filtered in through the brightly colored leaves, the kaleidoscope it made on the ground below Maeve leading her back from the depths of the forest to the cabin where the man who had made her see stars just hours ago had been when she left only an hour before. She had wondered for a long period of her life whether she was broken or not. Whether her heart was defective and unable to love since it had seemed like she was never able to love her past partners. But last night with Calum, under the safety of a dark cabin, she had felt her heart race and her mind go numb to anything but the thought of him. Maybe she’d been alone for too long, Calum’s soft touch and grunts in her ear stirred something inside of her, or maybe it meant more.

Maybe Calum had become something more.

"Do you think you'll stay in Scotland longer?" Maeve asked as she walked into the kitchen.

Calum was stood by the small window, watching the sway of the trees, a cup of tea in his hands keeping him warm. He'd been lost in his head again much like he did nowadays, the worry of heading back home to deal with his problems instead of running away pressing against his temple. Maeve’s soft voice had drawn in his attention back into the moment, his body turning towards her, pulled by the softness of her presence and how hours ago that same soft voice had thrown him over the edge. Since he’d watched her walk out of bed, dressed in only the shirt she’d thrown off of him, he hadn’t gotten the image of her out of his head. How the sliver of moonlight had shown him sneak peeks of her body; the shade of red her chest had turned from Calum’s lips, the darkness that the hair on her mound had been. He’d been thinking of her ever since she walked out of the bathroom past him in a dark blue sweater, her boots leading her outside before Calum was once again left in the dark and silence of the cottage.

“My flight leaves in two days,” he said quietly, setting the cup of tea down, “If we’re ever rescued,” he teased.

“I’m sure we will be,” Maeve laughed quietly, “I’ll jump from tree to tree if I have to. There’s no way I’m missing this interview.”

“They’d hire you anyway,” Calum chuckled and shrugged, his eyes meeting hers, “They’d be foolish not to.”

The afternoon sun beamed down on both Maeve and Calum, leaving them warm and energized. The hike, which Calum had forced Maeve out of the cottage for, had taken place on their last day alone. Maeve had brought a blanket, making Calum carry it in his backpack which was also packed with snacks, water, and a camera that Calum had insisted was necessary. They'd walked next to one another, their hands grazing one another every once in a while. Calum's eyes were focused on the trail, knowing that no matter how far they walked, their way back to civilization grew farther and farther away. Eventually, his focus turned from the panic of being alone again and the reminder of his dream to the way Maeve's warm hand wrapped around his. He looked down, where their hands were joined and swinging with every step they took, his heart jumping at how right it all felt. "Is this okay?" Maeve asked quietly, her bottom lip sucked between her teeth.

"Of course," he whispered and nodded, giving her hand a small squeeze as he continued on through their walk.

When the grassy field came into view Calum had unfolded the blanket and set down the backpack, sighing at the relief his back felt when the heavy bag was no longer straining his muscles. The field was surrounded by trees, leaves scattered around them as the sunshine warmed the air. They'd sat in comfortable silence, listening to the songs that the forest would play for them. In the daylight, where the trees, birds, and river could see them, the distance between Maeve and Calum grew until they were nothing more than strangers again. They would drift off into their own minds, stuck in the waves of anxiety and tension that came from sleeping with a stranger. But that afternoon, their last afternoon, things were different. The sunlight brought soft touches and laughter that floated into the leaves above them. Calum's lips were puffy from the soft kisses that Maeve would leave every time she giggled at something he would say.

"I'm going to miss this," Maeve whispered at one point, her eyes focused on passing clouds, "I don't think I've ever felt this carefree before."

"Me too, I didn't think my trip to Scotland would've ever ended up like this," Calum mumbled, his own eyes watching the clouds swim across the sky, "I'm jealous you get to stay here."

"Do you think we'll see each other again?" she asked softly.

"I think the universe trapped us in a cottage together for a reason, no?" Calum asked and chuckled softly, his head lifting up to look over at Maeve.

"It seems that there is no theory for which to explain a moment like this," Maeve whispered and smiled as she watched Calum lean in closer to her, "I'm going to miss you."

Their last morning together, was one they hadn’t even realized would be their last.

In the morning, when the sun hit both Calum and Maeve, the bedroom was quiet. Calum's chest was rising and falling, the soft snores that usually left him hidden by Maeve's shoulder. The wind had no longer whistled against the cottage, the last of the raindrops from the night's storm falling down with a drip, drip, drip. The birds outside were singing, cheering as if they knew the bad weather had passed and the final storm, an encore complete with thunder and lightning, had come and gone. Calum's eyes opened slowly, his hands pulling the warm body next to him closer. His body leaned closer to hers, the warmth between their bare bodies a reminder of the night before where they both held one another as their moans were whispered in between kisses.

Calum had been stroking her skin, lost in the softness of her and the way his heart ached knowing that his life would never be the same as it was in that moment when he heard the familiar accent of Mrs. Bagby. His body tensed, his arms reaching out to pull the curtain back, flooding the room with light and being met with Mrs. Bagby, who was waving from the other end of the broken bridge. Calum's wide eyes and shaky hands had forced him to pull the curtains closed, his body moving on its own as he grabbed his sweatpants and sweater, before rushing out of the cabin. His shoes were covered in mud as he jogged over to the bridge, his breath hitching as he watched the roaring water splash against the rocks below him.

"Mr. Hood! Oh no, this is horrible, are you and the girl okay?!" Mrs. Bagby called out, "When did this happen?!"

"The day I walked out here! We couldn't contact anyone! The power hasn't worked since that storm blew over!" Calum yelled, watching as the older lady’s face turned into confusion.

"Storm? Darling, there hasn't been a storm here since before you arrived," she said with a shake of her head.

Calum frowned, standing at the edge of the broken bridge, his eyes searching the older woman for any hint of a joke. But Calum was met with a worried look that made his blood run cold. He'd clearly remembered the rainstorm, remembered hearing the tumbling of the bridge and how Maeve had gasped from the room next to the kitchen. He remembered walking out that next morning and standing where he was now, trying to figure out how he was meant to spend the night with a stranger who had taken his breath away.

"Calum?" Maeve asked quietly, her voice still laced with sleep as she stood by the door. She was wrapped in a blanket, her hair a curly mess around her head as she looked at Calum confused, "What's going on?"

"I'm going to get help! You two pack your bags!" the older lady called out, the engine of her car rumbling through the forest as she disappeared down the road.

And then they were alone.

Maeve had been quiet, packing clothes and memories of a day she couldn't help but think would be the last remnants of Calum she would have. Calum, who was sat on the couch, had packed his bag and sat in silence wondering whether he was ready to leave the cabin behind. Whether he was ready to leave Maeve and the safety of the dark powerless cabin. The past couple of days had been a whirlwind, they had been tiring and filled with silence. But Calum had loved nothing more than spending time with Maeve and learning about her in those moments when the silence was broken. He'd never met anyone like Maeve before, she was open and willing to tell Calum her story with no hesitation and yet, Calum found himself wanting to know more and more about the woman in the bedroom next to him. But the sound of a car across the river brought him back to reality. Brought him back to the fact that he had to go back to a sunny city where his life had been. A city where every street reminded him of the fact that he was alone and where the only trees he could see were palm trees. He'd be back in a city where his friends tiptoed around him and the way his heart had been broken.

Maeve had been outside, sitting on a stone that had looked more comfortable than Calum assumed actually was, staring up at the sky. The sunlight had illuminated her, leaving her skin a soft golden color that looked breathtaking in the dark sweater she'd slid on after Calum had taken it out of his bag and handed it to her on the car ride back to civilization. The car ride, which had consisted of Mrs. Bagby, or Baird he still didn't quite know, apologizing profusely for all the confusion and for leaving them trapped in the forest. Maeve had been focused on the passing trees and the way the river was no longer a constant noise in her ears. But when the rolling hills of the Highlands came into view, Calum felt the ache in his heart, knowing that their little universe was far away and no longer just theirs. The sweater engulfed Maeve, leaving her protected against the bitter wind that nipped at her skin even through the sunlight. Her bags had been sat at her side, like two piles of rocks ready to float away and leave Calum stranded.

“You’re going to do amazing,” Calum mumbled as he walked over to her, “They’re not even going to know what hit them.”

“Thank you,” Maeve whispered, her head turning up to look up at him, “I hope you have a safe flight back, take lots of pictures of the ocean.”

“And you take lots of pictures of those hills for me?” Calum smiled, the flash of his teeth disappearing as the car that would take him away from the woman, and the country, he’d fallen in love with, “It was nice meeting you, Maeve.”

Deific/Major Familiars and the Table of Offers

As stated before, the Deific Familiar is the first Familiar one has to approach. It corresponds to the patron God or Goddess of the contemporary practitioners, although in the past the concept of “Divinity” in a non-christian sense got lost with the end of real paganism. From then on, these entities were addressed as more powerful Spirits.

A BIT OF HISTORY

In the middle ages and in the first modern era, the Deific/Major Familiar appeared as the head of the Procession of the Dominae Nocturnae (Signore della Notte, Ladies of the Night).

All throughout the Europe of this period, we always find the same theme, although called with different names: there’s a figure, the Deific Familiar, that procedes with a following of Spirits (usually women and associated with Fairies) and human Souls (the so called Witches, that evidently were non other than individuals that were having an extracorporeal experience) passing from house to house.

Those who wanted to have the favors of said Procession and of the Deific Familiar that was the head of it, would completely clean the house, putting everything in order, making the beds, etc. Then they proceded to prepare the table for these Spiritual guests, leaving food and drinks on the kitchen table for the night.

During the night, the Procession would enter the house, stopping to eat, drink, dance and sing and the Deific Familiar, with his/her wand, would have blessed the same food: the Procession could only eat the Spiritual aspect of the food, filling the Material aspect with prosperity and many other virtues.

In the morning, the blessed food was supposed to be eaten and the left overs preserved.

According to some scholars, the theme of the Procession of the Dominae Nocturnae has its origin in the theme of the Wild Hunt or the Procession of the Dead.

The Wild Hunt was the Procession of Spirits of those who fell honorably in battle, according to the Viking beliefs, the Einhejar, together with the Valkyries, guided by Wotan (Odin), and it was said that it could be possible to see it in some occasion in the battlefield.

This theme will slightly change in the christian epoque, becoming the Procession of the Dead, a procession of Spirits of those who died a violent death, suicides, non baptized children and people who weren’t evil enough to deserve eternal damnation in hell, but that could not access Paradise either (the concept of Purgatory was developed from here). This belief, even if born in the germanic/norse world, will spread throughout Europe, thanks to the extensive preaching of the christian priests, that, while trying to eradicate said beliefs in the population, obtained the opposite effect.

This theme would then be changed and adapted by every culture: Wotan was substituted with local figures, first among all, Hellequin (from “ Helle König”, the King of Hell, from which Dante developed the figure of Alichino, that later became the famous figure of Arlecchino, Harlequin).

From the initial Wild Hunt, two different Processions would be developed:

Procession of the Dead, with a male like Hellequin as the head

Procession of the Dominae Nocturnae, with a female like Diana or Aradia as the head. This theme also received the influence of the beliefs on Fairies. In numerous cases the figure head of the Dominae Nocturnae is also the head of the Fairies (Doamna Zinelor in Romania, the Fata Maggiore in Sicily, the Queen of Elphame in Great Britain).

This introduction is useful to understand how to choose our Deific Familiar. This Familiar was different in each region, although the european theme was the same. It depended on local latent beliefs, while the myth of the Procession was pan-european, thanks to the christian priests.

CHOOSING OUR FAMILIAR

Said choice must be thoughtful; we’re linking ourselves with a Spirit, a link that will probably last for all our lives. It cannot be taken lightly.

With this premise, the first thing to do is to seek documents of Witch trials in our area. Usually, the most useful ones are the ones before the 1550s, because around this moment in when the Church starts to associate Witchcraft with the Devil, so we risk to find trials that describe Satan as the head of the Procession, instead of other Spirits, like Diana, Aradia, la Signora del Gioco (Lady of the Game), and others. Said trials are completely useless for our ends.

Analizing these trials and the local folklore (like reading books of popular legends about Witches) we need to pay attention to:

the names of the heads of the Witches

the names of the heads of the Fairies

the names of the heads of the Wild Hunt/Procession of the Dead

the names of other figures deriving from pre-christian divinities present in the folklore

The facebook page “Gli Dei della Stregoneria Italiana” already did good part of the job. Of course this work isn’t exhaustive and it’s good practice to try and integrate it with a personal research, but it’s a good way to start.

Sicily: the Regina delle Fate (Queen of the Fairies), also called Savia Sibilla, Signora Greca, Signora Grazia, Donna Inguanto, Mandotta and Donna Zabella; the Re delle Fate (King of the Fairies) also called Re Cozzo or Re Cucco.

Sardinia: Diana (the sardinian Fate were called Janas); Maimone also called Maimulu and Mamuthone (probably derived from Dioniso Mainoles. Aradia (also called Mama Erodas, Arada, Araja or Rejusta) was also seen as the patron of the Janas.

Calabria: in this folklore, the table were prepared for the Fatae, that the local albanian minority also called Drekezit o Fiatazit. There are also the figures of the Sibilla Cumana, of the local Befana called Papparutu or Pacciarutu and a group of local healers called Cerauli that had St. Paul (substitution to Eracle) as their patron.

Apulia: the Patrona de la Cheise, figure similar to the Donne di Fori/Donne di Fuori/Patruni di Casa/Patruni di Luocu Siciliane. One salutes her saying:”Bon ggiorne a la Patrona de la Cheise, u mmaile ca esce e un bbeine ca triese” (”Good morning to the Patrona de la Cheise, an evil that goes away and a blessing that enters”). To protect yourself from the apulian Streghe, the Masciare, the locals said “Driana meste ca va pela vì” (”Master Diana that travels the roads”). The local paganism of the V sec. a.C. consists in the cult of a divinity of the Sun (Mitra or Apollo?) and a divinity of the Moon (Diana?). Dioniso is the god linked to the Tarantismo, substituted by St. Paul in later times.

Basilicata: the Madonna Nera di Viggiano, probably derived from Persefone, has a black face and wonders between the fields of wheat and the cattle, it was a dark divinity from the shadows of the earth’s womb, the farmers’ Persefone, an infernal goddess. We also find prayers to the Santo Sole (Saint Sun), probably a remainder of Apollo or Helios.

Molise: the cult of St. Cosma and St. Damiano comes from the cult of the Dioscuri and in part from the cult of Priapo. This region shares with Campania the figure of the Ianare, the local Streghe, and as a result of Diana that gives the name to these Streghe.

Campania: Diana gives the name to the local Streghe, the Ianare/Janare and it’s linked to the cult of the Noce di Benevento (the Walnut tree of Benevento), together with Godan (Odin) and Iside (Isis). The folklore mentions other gods: the Zucculara (Hekate), Cupindo (Cupido), Erodiade (Aradia) and the Sepilla la bella (the Sibilla Cumana).

Lazio: Aradia lead the Streghe to Rome and gathered them together the day of St. John, near the homonym basilica. We also read about the Meridiana or Marianna, a demon of noonday, probably deriving from Diana. Cupiddo (Cupid) was also worshipped.

Abruzzo: this region shares with Umbria and Marche the cult of the Sibilla Appenninica (also called the Sibilla Picena or the Sibilla di Norcia); probably derived from the cult of Cibele, Cupra, Nortia or Venere; others think this figure was the Sibilla of the god Pico. The goddess Angizia in the origin of the figure of St. Domenico di Cocullo. Some of the other cults are the goddess Ancharia and Ercole Curino, the goddess Maia, the god Hermes, the Pasqua Pefanij or Bboffe, a feminine figure linked to Epiphany.

Tuscany: the tuscanian Befana, has the same origin of the venetian Redodesa; the Fantasma, a figure linked to Hekate; the Maga Accina on mt. Amiata, linked to the Sibilla Appenninica. The belief in Diana and Aradia is documented by the archbishop Sant’Antonino in the XV sec d.C., long before Leland.

Emilia-Romagna: the goddess head of the Streghe is called the Domina Cursus and Sapiente Sibilla. Other pagan figures of the local folklore are: the Borda, deriving from Borvo/Bormo a celtic god that presides the thermal and spring waters; the Fata was corresponding to the germanic Perchta, seen as a nice old lady, very clean and with a welcoming attitude.

Again, it is vital that you make your own research by looking up the names of these divinities and accessing the documents of the trials.

Once obtained these names, starting from the region(s) that we choose as a point of reference and the call that we feel towards a specific divinity, we can operate the decision of our Deific Familiar.

THE TAVOLO DELLE OFFERTE

Now that we have chosen our Deific/Major Familiar, we can start with the Tavolo delle Offerte (the Table of Offerings), a table spread with food and drinks for our Familiar and their Procession.

Here is how it goes:

Thoroughly clean the house (or at least the room in which you’ll operate this ritual, usually the kitchen).

Set the table (if we’re forced to work in other rooms, an altar will suffice) with a clean tablecloth, table napkins, cutlery, dishes, glasses, a bottle of wine or another drink of choice and the following meals (first course, second course, side dish, dessert or fruit). You’ll also need one or more chairs, so that our guests can seat.

Recite a prayer to manifest that we’re leaving this offering to our Deific Familiar and its following, inviting them inside, allowing them to dance, eat, sing and drink inside our house and asking them to consume our food and to bless it after they consumed its Spiritual aspect, and to cast their blessing upon us, our house and to its inhabitants.

We can light some incense and leave some musical instruments as a further offer. Adding candles and tapers that represent our Deific Familiar, statues or images of them, flowers and so on, it’s also acceptable. These are contemporary additions, but the banquet is the necessary base of the offering.

In the morning, we will approach the table, thank the Deific Familiar and we’ll eat the blessed food. Upon finishing the meal, we’ll thank the Deific Familiar once more, we’ll tell them goodbye and procede to clean up.

WHEN AND HOW OFTEN LEAVE THE OFFER?

The foundation of the relationship with a Familiar Spirit is to nurture them, in order to fuel the link between ourselves and the Spirit. In the past, the Strega fed their Familiar once a day. In this age, some people make offering everyday, others a few times a week or even once a week. In my opinion [TN: the author’s opinion] we should make an offer at least once a week.

🐏 VENUS IN ARIES
