OC Info Sheet: Layla "Llorona" Montez
This lovely lady!!
Hair: indigo, long & curly (until Cora burns some by accident then it becomes a bob)
Eye color: golden yellow
Height: 5'9.5
Age: start of story 26, cora's death 29, when reunited with law 42
Devil fruit: Wail Wail Fruit- a person with extreme grief gives out a loud sound wave that triggers anyone within it's radius an extreme fear induced reaction (fight creates destructive self harm, flight will take any means necessary ways to flee, and freeze will leave them paralyzed for 2 minutes)
The stem is red and the rest is a dark blue. Turn it upside down to see the face :D
Background: Born and raised in a cluster of isles called Mariposa Island, an artisan place where butterflies and florals are the main inspiration.
Grandparents were from Dressrosa, it's where she got her accent
Married a man named Nicolas Estrada very young (22 & 23) and had a son named Lucas (4) (Both now deceased)
She worked as a jeweler, while her husband was a perfumer.
Her Story: Pirates destroyed her town in search of a hidden devil fruit, killing her husband. When she found his body the devil fruit was hidden with him. She ate it hoping to use it's power to stop the pirates but nothing happened.
She then goes back to her own house to find it on fire and rushed in there to rescue her son, burning herself in the process. When she tries to put out the fire in a river nearby, she unintentionally drowns her son to death. (You can easily tell I'm using the ghost myth of Llorona for inspiration)
Grief struck, she uses the devil fruit power to chase away/killed everyone in town. She was later found by Giolla and Diamante who were on a mission/shopping trip. They take her to Doflamingo who decides to keep her as part of the family. Reality is that he wants to weaponize the fruit.
Cora tries his best to get her out/make her life less miserable since he can't scare her away. He does fall in love in her eventually but hides it out of guilt and in fear that Doffy will use it against him.
When Law shows up, Layla grows more attached to him compared to other kids due to the fact he looks like her dead son (both have dark hair and golden eyes). It felt like a second chance of saving him from death.
She falls for Corazon when he speaks to her for the first time. "Come with us. We'll find a cure for Law and get you far away from this life." Law finds their lovey dovey stuff stupid and gross.
Fun facts:
A romantic at heart, enjoys the arts
Favorite food: pan de dulce (sweet bread), specially conchas (melon bread?)
Least favorite: anything pickled really
Favorite color: a soft blue
Flower to represent her: Snowdrops (Meaning: A symbol of sympathy and condolence, "with death comes rebirth." Snowdrops can be used in other ways as a symbol or representation of hope, renewal, and comfort in rituals, ceremonies, or meditation.)
Birthday: April 7th
Hobbies: singing, collecting sea glass
Law calls her "Yona"
Song to give her: My Love Mine All Mine - mitski
Not so fun facts:
The tear streaks down her face started as makeup but Doflamingo makes them into tattoos as a punishment for attempting to leave
Doflamingo used Sugar's ability to make Layla a doll for years as a punishment to escape during the Dressrosa takeover
Since it follows the canon story, Layla gets captured and separated because of Vergo

If Apple TV does indeed do a spin off with a AFC Women's Football team, I love Brendan Hunt, Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, but please.
Get more women in the writer's room.
I love Ted Lasso with my whole heart, but we deserve better for Keeley, for Rebecca, for future characters in this series, and for how women overall have been portrayed. They did fairly well, but still. They can do better.
especially how they handed Jane and Beard. I still am personally in denial about that.

One time I was working as a waiter at a burger joint where the fries were tossed in salt and coriander and as I was bringing food over to the table for these two huge beefy guys one of them asks what the green stuff is so I go "it's coriander" and his friend goes very seriously "he can't have coriander" and I'm thinking shit ok maybe he's allergic and guy 1 starts pulling up his sleeve to show me something and I'm thinking shit shit shit he's probably breaking out in hives rn and it's my fault but he just shows me his arm and he has this huge cursive font tattoo that just says "I fucking hate coriander"
