God you hate that fish faced idiot >:( It’s bad enough that the housewarden’s moodswings guaranteed your holiday plans were all shot, but now Jamil’s getting hounded by the mafia! It’s your responsibility to get them off his back, but it’s not like you’re enjoying it. Somehow it’s even worse to watch Floyd when he’s playing dumb, and his emotional roller coaster keeps you walking on eggshells. The show must go on though, and if you’ve gotta play “wrestle until the biting stops” then you’ll do it :/

You’re probably one of the most talkative of octavinelle students, and definitely a solid salesman. Kalim’s a prime target for resales and marketing practice, so naturally you join the pop music club. A year of “playing nice for the jackpot” leads you to lie awake at night, terrified that he’ll see through your facade and ditch you- it would cut off your best friendship, you’d be forced to leave the club! At some point you realize you’d stopped selling him things months ago, and your worst nightmare happened right under your nose. You fell in love.

“Hey, that solo was so inspiring! You’re really making progress!”

“It still isn’t on par with yours, though. Are you available to keep practicing after school? I’m sure Jamil would appreciate the break, and I would enjoy the company..”

Of course your first job would come with some pet bat, it was too good to be true :( Full time at a bits and bobs shop near one of the best schools in the country WITH flexible hours? You must’ve been desperate to accept without reading about your babysitting in the footnote. He comes in everyday during your shift (regardless of the hours you take, it’s like he has a sixth sense), and has the audacity to exist in your space! It’s not like he even does anything to get banned!! He just stands there. Menacingly. You’re waiting for the day where he leaves convincing evidence that he’s there to traffic you or something- because if you didn’t know better you’d think he has a big, fat crush on you.

“Darling, how is the shop? I’ve taken care of those juvenile delinquents for you!”

“Taken care of? Whatever. Get back to class, kid.”

I hope you guys don’t mind more writing ‘cause I want to do it more often. This was meant to be a request for Gem and Skizz interacting, but I accidentally posted my work in progress instead of saving it as a draft lol. So uhhh sorry. Imma try something new and sprinkle in some art to go along with the story(since I’m assuming you guys wanna see that more than writing)

What Makes Me So Special?

Word count: 900

It was late morning when Skizz entered the detective’s base living room looking down in the dumps. Gem was sitting on the couch to Skizz’s left, which was more of a wooden bench. There wasn’t a lot of options for furniture. It was either a rock couch or a wooden couch, and Skizz knew Grian and Gem wouldn’t let a rock couch in their living room slide.

Gem was wiping down her brand new diamond sword with a white cloth(which won’t ever be white again, probably), which she had just taken for a test drive overnight. It was stained with monster guts and dark, almost brownish purple zombie blood. It was truly disgusting, but Gem seemed unbothered, letting it seep into her long, pleated skirt as she held her cyan blade on her lap.

Gem didn’t even have to look up to examine Skizz’s expression, she knew something was wrong. No way in the whole Minecraft multiverse would Skizz walk into a room without so much as a hi.

Skizz plopped down next to her on the couch with a long winded sigh and a grunt as his bottom made impact with the thick wood of the couch. He continued to sigh and readjust his sitting position like he had forgotten how to sit correctly, bobbing his eyes back in forth, trying to catch Gem’s eye. He wanted to talk about something that was bothering him, but for some reason he wanted Gem to strike up the conversation. Then, he began whistling, which could be seen as a death sentence. As skilled as a fighter Gem was, she’s wasn’t afraid to give her friends a good whack if they annoyed her.

Instead, Gem compacted herself like a shrimp to put her face closer to her sword, pointlessly scrubbing more violently in one spot, which was very much clean by now. Her eye twitched in annoyance to the sound of Skizz’s airy, ear piercing whistle. Don’t get her wrong, she loved Skizz, but she had just pulled an all nighter fighting monsters and really didn’t have the energy to deal with anyone right now. She had the eye bags and unkept hair to show for it.

After tolerating Skizz for a good long while(and being on the verge of stabbing him), Gem finally gave in. “What’s wrong, Skizz?” Gem groaned.

“GEMSTONE!!” Skizz shouted a little too loud. He had been holding in his words for what felt like forever. He most definitely looked constipated. “Y’know how I really like Impulse??”

“Yeah…?” Gem replied, raising an eyebrow as if to say ‘and?’. What was new? She’s heard this story a bagillion times. Skizz really likes Impulse. Skizz pretty much told her every second of every day. Or at least he’s brought it up enough for Gem to give up on counting.

“Well….” Skizz hesitated. He actually seemed serious for once. Or was it sad? Maybe it was the tone in his voice. “I guess I feel kinda lame ‘round him, y’know. He’s just so smart and cool and I genuinely love to be around the guy. He’s special y’know….Special to me…..I just don’t feel special….I can’t build a house without it looking ugly. I can’t make a red stone thingy-ma-jig and have it work. And I can’t even fight good. I can’t even muster up the courage to tell him how I feel about him…” Skizz took a shaky breath. He sniffled, tilted his head up, and blinked a lot, trying to suck back the tears attempting to escape his eyes.

He continued. “How can I possibly believe that he loves me too…..what makes me so special?…..I guess….I’m just scared he’s faking cuz he pities me.” He huffed and gripped his pant legs, trying to fight back the tears. It would usually kill a ‘real’ man to be this open.

“Skizz….” Gem’s expression shifted to concern. Now she felt horrible for trying to ignore him. No wonder Skizz was so abnormally hesitant to speak with her, he was trying to talk about feelings of inadequacy. She stared at the floor in contemplation, then drew a long breath, readying her advice. “Well, if I know Impulse(which I do) he loves you just as much.” Gem gave Skizz a small but comforting smile. “And if I know Impulse(which, again, I do) he thinks you’re special….very special.” Gem gave Skizz a nudge in the shoulder.

“But how do you know-“ Skizz attempted to retort.

“Impulse is smart, right?” Gem finished.

Skizz felt his face heat up. His halo, which floated just above his head, began to rotate slowly. He broke eye contact with Gem out of embarrassment, who continued to smile at him.

Gem shoved Skizz off the wooden couch bench, trying to break the awkward silence. “NOW GO GET THAT MAN! He’s waiting for you, Skizz! I assure you !” She projected reassuringly. Skizz was just able to catch himself. “Uhhh- YEAH!!” Skizz shuffled out of his awkward landing position and struck a triumphant pose. He turned back to Gem. “Thanks, Gemstone!! This little chat really helped me out! And it was kinda neat to let my feelings out. Imma go find Impulse!!! Seeya!!” Skizz ran off and out the door with his confidence restored. Gem let herself fall back into her seat on the couch, smiling proudly to herself for a job well done. She shed a tear of joy at the thought:

Architect Society thoughts

(This is gonna be a pretty thick info dump so I'll put it below a break so I'm not clogging up anyone's feed).

All this mostly started with my attempt at trying to figure out some odd aspects of how Architects are represented in the game, and it spiraled into me imagining hypotheticals and putting way too much thought into things that don't need it/will probably never be explained.

I know that Architect society is presented as this whole, cohesive unit in the game, but I've always wondered if it's more than that. And while we have no idea how Architect society is divided up, or if it even is, we do know that Al-An is in a position of high importance. He states as much, and considering he was given the very important task of finding a cure for the bacterium outbreak, it's likely he was pretty high up.

Which makes me start thinking about how status is represented in Architect society. If it's something physically represented (like how royalty wears crowns, or military wears uniforms) or if it's something built into the 'code' that uniquely identifies each individual 'component' or Architect in the Network

I think both, and like to imagine they use their horns as symbols of status and add adornments to them - it's almost archaic tradition but since metals like gold, silver and platinum are rare in space because of their density, having more of them symbolized importance and longevity of "usefulness", i.e., how long you've been alive and contributing to the Network

(Idk I just want to see Al-An wearing platinum jewelry with pearls or amber, because cosmically they're far rarer than emeralds or diamonds, reflecting his incredibly important status.)

Which brings me to some things never explained in game. There are statues that get made of Architects you can find in the Koppa mining site, as well as a whole ass garden that gets made as a "place to reflect". Why? What purpose does it serve, unless Architect's value art in some way? I keep thinking about that one Architect that died there. Why did they go there, and choose to die there, if they didn't find comfort in the place?

People, myself included, characterize Architect's as being solely invested in scientific study alone, but they have to value art somehow. Otherwise, why would those statues be made on 4546b? Why would all of those objects, some with purely subjective value, be displayed in the primary containment facility and the quarantine enforcement platform? Maybe not valuing it to the extent of study, but still regarding it as serving some sort of purpose.

And now, what if there's an almost outlier section of society that, rather than studying the sciences, are more interested in studying the humanities? Valuing philosophy, art and even their language, placing it in high regard? What if the number that study those has been dwindling for hundreds of years, largely looked down upon by the majority of Architect society for their study into what might not be considered important to progress? Sort of like nowadays - where people consider getting a degree in the arts secondary to a degree in the sciences. But they value that study regardless, and have their own complex of buildings atop a mountain like we see at the end of the game, in some separate location.

And even further - what if there were even Architects that found themselves discontent with being in the Network and left? Regarded with disappointment and shamed by the society they left behind, deemed crazy and defective, but finding individualism more valuable. Forming a sect somewhere either among the mountains, or below the cloud layer, away from 99% of all other Architects.

What if they alone survived the outbreak? Not deliberately, but just because the infection never had the opportunity to spread to them. They might not even know what happened to the rest, to those that remained in Network. They were told to never come back to the mountain peaks, so they never did. Never cared to. They just know that at one point the progress stopped, and the ships stopped flying overhead.

What if, when Al-An comes home, Architects he once deemed lesser, flawed and defective, are all that's left of the people he loves? Robin not understanding the differences, and is relieved and happy that there are some of his people left. But Al-An's just conflicted because they aren't his people. Not really. It'll leave Al-An with his race still technically alive, but his people are well and truly gone. There's no place for him among them, unless he can accept that sole individualism as his new reality. Having to come to terms with the fact that the society he was searching to restore can never come back to be, but the Architect's are not truly gone.

I'll likely have many more thoughts to add, but I found myself caught up thinking about the evolution of the Architect's as a species - from their birth of sentience to the cybernetically enhanced, interstellar traveling people we know in the game. About the scraped beta dialogue between Robin and Al-An about how they had to work hard to survive the threats of evolutionary and technological advancement, and all that meant for them and their society.

I could probably go on forever about what those evolutionary hurdles must have looked like and the sacrifices needed to be made to continue on, since that's just my cup of overthinking biologist tea. But I think I'll leave it here, for now.

‘Sleep’ & ‘Worship’ analysis

Ok so I’ve been thinking a lot about Sleep lately.

Now, I personally have never been super into decoding the songs through a lore lens. For me the songs have always felt like vessel exploring/processing his emotions/relationships, and that’s the lens I tend to do any analysis through.

But like I said I’ve been thinking a lot about Sleep, and why vessel chose to create him in the first place. And I’ve come to like the idea vessel created Sleep to be like, an external way of processing the parts of himself he doesn’t like so much.

I’ll split this up into, Sleep and worship:

Sleep:

Like I’ve said I’ve come to think of Sleep as an amalgamation of vessels struggles, largely from a mental health/trauma? standpoint point.

Part of what makes me feel like that is the name itself. Vessel talks a lot of sleeping/laying in bed, which I’ve personally been kinda linking to depression (but that is me projecting). To me it kinda makes sense that that weight/tiredness, that can feel insurmountable, could be externalised into a God/monster that possesses/overpowers you.

idk about anyone else but sometimes I do say things like ‘sorry, would love to do that, but the depression/anxiety/etc. said no.’ as if it’s its own entity and not part of my brain - this is kinda what I think vessel could be doing, just more creatively.

Lyric examples:

Another things that makes me characterise Sleep like this, is the growing depiction of him as something solid, an actual physical entity, like with the tentacles on the TMBTE album cover. this in combination with vessels progressively more intense interest in swords and other weaponry make it feel like he’s created a monster he can fight

The most recent album being weaponry themed is very interesting for this reason. It looks like vessel is preparing for battle/stocking up an arsenal. And going off the moon-tentacle creature from TMBTE the line “Will you halt this eclipse in me?” feels like vessel is maybe trying to fight back against ‘Sleep’ (to varying levels of success) . To stop the ‘moon’ from bringing on darkness - so he may stay in the daylight.

Finally in Infinite baths the last segment of the song to me feels like ‘Sleep’ is coming in to try and sabotage the good that vessel has managed to create for himself/with someone.

‘Sleep’ is telling him he is unworthy, that he can’t change, and that he will be stuck in his ‘nightmares’ forever. But then vessel ends the song acknowledging both parts of himself in a kinda of equal manner, which feels a bit like a he’s saying ‘ok I am made up of both these things, but im not just giving in totally to this ‘god’ anymore.’

I have more thoughts on EIA being like a battle between ‘Sleep’ and vessel, but I’ll make another post on that later.

The music vessel makes is a ‘token’ - an offering, an acknowledgement - to ‘Sleep.’ He is exploring what he feels, and by doing so, he is growing and continuing on his journey.

Worship:

Now if you’ve gotten this far, im sure you’re wondering ‘but Ren, does that mean we’re worshiping vessel’s emotional issues ?’ and the answer (to me) is no, but also yes… stay with me here.

Here are some key bits of information that shape how I see ‘worship’

So to me, within a Sleep Token context, “to worship” is to connect. It’s to face the broken, shadowy pieces of yourself, but know that you aren’t alone. Because we are all here together, and when we listen to this music we are connected.

Each of us faces our own battles, our bad days, our own ‘Sleeps.’ and when we ‘worship’ - be it at a Ritual or alone in our own spaces - we aren’t giving power to Sleep, rather we are finding strength from being seen, and feeling understood. letting the emotions flow through us, and weave together - to be together.

Of course this is just my interpretation, you can find your own meaning in worship if you so wish <3

So, TLDR: ‘Sleep’ is a external representation of Vessel’s (and our) ‘dark sides’ and when we worship (listen to ST), we give our self permission to feel - so we can find connection and safety in each other.

hello fellow parkciv fans and welcome to my ref sheet of how to draw these guys (ignore the fact EMF is here twice- He's just here to show what my note of "Gold changes based on level!" means) cause RAAAH- I'm also gonna use this as my headcannon post for minor things with their outfits so like if you don't wanna read that I'm just gonna put that in the keep reading section okay okay hope you guys enjoy the art though! also does include spoilers for the second movie so if you're not caught up then uhhhh oops-

design notes time let's go!

Evbo:

Bandaids all over the guy- he has some on his elbows and knees but the elbow ones are always covered by his hoodie. Reason for the bandaids is cause as he got better and better at parkour and progressing the levels the more he would do more defying moves and would have to get hurt at some point from certain jumps or even just having a rough landing onto a block so he gets scraped up pretty bad occasionally.

Halo because he's a god now it just makes sense. Always has a light around said halo and he can turn this on and off but most times forgets to so he just has a glow around his head-

his clothes are pretty baggy on him, like his hoodie is roughly two sizes too big and it's because one, the horrible feeding conditions of being a noob, and two it probably gets cold up in parkour civilization so long baggy sleeves are just better the higher you are. His pants aren't but they are very ripped at the knees from aforementioned rough parkour landings.

Fingerless gloves are for vibes and also incorporating more of the blue small amount of blue

His netherite boots have wings carved into them because I think if you're parkour god you should get the ability to fly occasionally and these boots allow that- I think if Evbo ever does want to fly (which is rarely, man got accustomed to parkouring and he's good at it) the wings do sprout out of the boots just pure hermes winged sandal situation here.

only one with only white pupils out of main three. EMF's eyes are pure white in general, but Evbo is the only one with White pupils that probably when champion turn into diamonds and whenever he's excited they turn into a starry shape. Because he deserves some pizazz!

Very light freckles, incredibly hard to notice when he was a noob cause again horrible eating conditions and the dirt level covering a fair bit of the sunlight a lot and it's not until he actually climbs up in levels that they start to get more and more noticeable. not by a lot but still noticeable.

The shortest of the three and more on the skinnier/not muscly side just because of genetics and again noob level starvation :(

Seawatt:

Kohl around his eyes cause his skin is very reminiscent of ancient Egypt that and also the Parkour fighter level is very sandstone built so it's not the biggest reach. Probably his parents taught him how to do his eye make up.

Chain boots because again parkour fighter society and also they have a little bit of a taller heel (not by a lot but enough to keep him taller than Evbo and so he can still do parkour (even if he's mediocre at parkour already))

The in-between of Height between Evbo and EMF, also has slightly more muscle than Evbo and EMF because it would be silly. Twunk era fr fr-

has "Kneepads" to protect his knees because he's been a master since leveling up and really likes his position in power, so why would he not get himself some protection so he doesn't get hurt. And you can say he has a water bucket so he's not gonna take fall damage but that doesn't apply in the fighter level. There's no water buckets there so this is an investment for his sake.

the cross around his neck is actually a totem of undying, probably just a decorative/fake one or he had used it up before his death by clown pierce, but the point stands that that is what he has around his neck.

so many gold accents to show his status and to be taken seriously in the master level. It's also why he wears a crown to show status and power, because he didn't want to level up but now that he's here he might as well make it everyone else's problem and get some respect.

very much dresses for fashion over practicality and it shows, because Masters can do that. They get the choice to decide if they wanna dress practically or if they wanna test the themes of high fashion. As long as you can parkour in it anything goes.

Very much stuck to a purple color scheme for him so that way we can have Green, Blue, and Purple!! We have all the cool colors now!!

EMF:

That is not a human. No sir. The other two have no idea what he is (if we're being silly they probably thing he's a demon) but if we're talking in DnD Terms I draw him the most like he's a firbolg just because I saw people giving him a tail and I wanted to do that. So by that logic he is very fluffy.

Also by that logic he is very much on the taller and lankier side. Definitely the tallest out of the two and would probably have the height and jumping ability of a dear for vibes.

His gold accents, like Seawatt's, are meant to show his status but his actually change depending on what level he goes to unlike Seawatt's just staying the same. So when he becomes parkour champion all his gold accents become diamond colored for the vibes.

Also because he is the champion now he probably has a very faint glow around his crown because why not! cause in my head being the champion is basically like becoming a demigod so of course his crown is going to become glowy if he's become one but not as bright as Evbo's. EMF doesn't think there's anyone who's light can shine brighter than that guy.

His clothes are more on the form fitting but breathable side. Like his Tunic and shawl-like item are more form fitting while his pants are baggier for comfort. He choses both fashion and practicality on that front!!

He should have chain scars but I forgot to add them in so just pretend they're there pretty please and thank you- I will rectify this mistake when I draw him next.

his white areas tend to glow like stars in the night sky. If you're lucky enough you could probably even make constellations out of the softly glowing white freckles. This also means his blush is white so you can very much tell when he's flustered. Oh this also means his eyes glow and imagine you walk into his house in the middle of the night and you see nothing but two bright white eyes staring at you I would lose it- I would swear herobrine was coming for me on god.

There are differences between his gold and diamond boots I swear I just haven't drawn them because I liked my og sketch so much I didn't wanna alter it :( But next time when I draw him as champion I'll make a point to show the differences between gold and Diamond boots.

And I think that's all I wanted to mention so uhhhhhhhhh yeah if any of you actually read these that's cool!! Thank you for reading my silly thoughts that have been stuck in my brain!!

I hope so Critic

Honestly, this review took me some time because I didn't know what to say. I read this comic several times, and while it is quite entertaining at first, much of the story would slip my mind by the time I finished it. Moreover, the plot starts to become awkward and tedious when the lionesses embark on their journey outside the pride.

The ironic part is that this is precisely the central theme of the story.

One aspect that particularly annoys me is the way the lions name other creatures with terms like “Pickers,” “Stripecoats,” “Cackler,” and “Thunderfoot.” These names, in addition to sounding excessively literal, break the immersion and hinder the reading. If it weren’t a visual medium, following the story would be even more difficult. Supposedly, they were inspired by Watership Down to create this kind of nomenclature, but the influence seems superficial. In Watership Down, rabbits would name unfamiliar things differently, and those terms were quite limited. They also used their own words for specific actions, like Silflay or Hrair.

In this case, the device makes no sense because in Watership Down, the rabbits called plants by their real names, as they depended on them for survival and therefore knew them well. Here, on the other hand, the lions use these absurd names to refer to prey that is a fundamental part of their diet and that they should recognize without any issue.

Only The Land Before Time is allowed to use such obvious names.

Additionally, as I mentioned before, these terms are extremely self-descriptive. At least Watership Down created its own language, while these lions simply speak English with forced, distinct names.

As for the characters, they are acceptable. They aren’t terrible, but they fall into overly basic stereotypes, which makes them indistinguishable within the xenofiction genre. Jasper is the most generic villain I’ve seen in this kind of story, and the same goes for Edge. They’re so flat that they don’t even inspire disdain.

Visually, I must say the art is fine; I like it, but I feel the artists lack experience in comic composition. Some panels are excessively large for insignificant scenes, which causes the story to drag unnecessarily. With better planning, certain moments could be resolved in two pages instead of wasting several more.

I also don’t know if the authors are unaware that hyenas aren’t canines, as they draw them like dogs with manes. I understand the stylization, but for heaven’s sake, they look like hunchbacked wild dogs.

This compositional issue contributes to the frustratingly slow pace of the story. I know that drawing a comic takes time and effort, and the authors probably can’t work on it full-time. However, after three years since its release, the progress is practically nonexistent.

Moving on to another point: the narrative is clumsy.

At one point, there’s a kingdom lions surrounded by a green, lush environment, which completely contrasts with the naturalistic setting the work seemed to present at the beginning. In reality, this lion, Diamond, adds nothing to the main plot and just steals time that could have been spent, I don’t know, on our protagonists finally reaching him, where we could actually get to know him. As the story progresses, by the time he joins the group, we’ll probably not even remember who he was unless there are chapters dedicated to him and his predictable “I want to see the world” story.

Exploring more about Edge would actually be more useful for the narrative.

As for the cosmology/mythology/religion—which, in theory, isn’t religion—I must say I neither remember nor paid much attention to the brief stories at the beginning of each chapter. They’re bland and hardly add anything, except perhaps the one about the hyenas. If they truly wanted to emulate Watership Down, they should have taken inspiration from Richard Adams’ prose, which succeeded in immersing the reader in his world with stories full of charisma and personality. It’s a shame that this aspect is overlooked in the adaptations.

It’s also confusing who they are referring to as the Great King. They speak of him as if he were a deity, but according to their posts on Tumblr, he’s not. And the Traveler is basically the Black Rabbit of Inlé, but without grace. Honestly, I forgot that this story aims to develop its own culture.

Other than that, the story is okay, but nothing special.

It was a beautiful day out. Autumn had arrived in its wonderful grace, bringing nice but not too breezy afternoons and picturesque views of the forests that stretched beyond the world’s borders. The scenery was simply too breathtaking to not—

“What are you doing?”

Pearl perks up from the sketch pad she had on her lap, discovering that Gem had approached her.

“Just a lil’ doodling.” Pearl answers, using the pencil in her hand to point to her work-in-progress.

Gem quirks an eyebrow up at the reply, trying to have a glance at the picture before questioning her friend more. “Really? Right here?”

Pearl looks around. Well, she couldn’t really see what’s wrong with having a break in front of her mound, unless Gem was referring to the whole…game situation. In that case, she supposes it’s a fair query.

“Inspiration waits for no man, GeminiTay!” Pearl puffs out her chest, as though her declaration was meant for more than just Gem, but for the whole world.

Unfazed by Pearl’s theatrics, Gem sighs, “I knew I should’ve stopped Jimmy from calling you Shakespeare.”

With that, any attempt Pearl made at refocusing on her drawing were thrown out the window, and she took Gem’s words as a challenge.

“Why, doth thee not hold the same enthusiasm for the arts as I?” Pearl set aside her pencil, then mimicked holding a skull in her palm, preparing to monologue to thin air if Gem doesn’t stop her.

“Weirdo.” Gem giggles at the grand gestures Pearl made.

“Oh, you love it.” Pearl waves off the remark without a thought. It never gets old, and Pearl’s sure that Gem must’ve called her that a hundred times by now.

Just as Pearl expected, Gem lets out another fond sigh before taking a seat next to Pearl. Out of the corner of her eye, Pearl catches Gem trying to hide a smile.

Pearl returns to working on her sketch soon after, pausing for a second when she feels a weight press onto her shoulder. Gem was leaning on her to get a better view of the sketch pad, and as she shuffled closer, the unmistakable scent of pumpkins and flowers wafted into the air. Pearl makes a mental note to add more orange shades to the final picture.

The sketch at the moment is of the fields of sunflowers scattered around the grass fields of where the Mounders chose to set up camp at. Nothing too out of the ordinary, which is exactly what Pearl needs after days of chaos, all in the hopes of completing secret tasks.

“It looks pretty.” Gem breathes out after a brief lapse of silence between the two.

“Aw, thank you!” Pearl cranes her neck slightly to look at Gem. It doesn’t take long before she snorts and captures Gem’s attention, wondering what Pearl found worthy of laughing at.

Pearl points to the sunflowers. “They match your eyes.”

Gem pushes herself off of Pearl with an offended scrunch of her eyebrows. Her hand hovers dangerously close to the diamond sword she kept sheathed beside her waist. “Remind me again, can yellows kill greens? Because I’m really tempted to right now.”

There’s an amused flicker in Pearl’s face, and she clutches her chest with a horribly faked expression of terror. “Ooh no, am I being threatened by the great GeminiSlay?”

“Dork.” Gem huffs and rolls her eyes, moving to rest her arms on the ground below instead.

Pearl replies with a toothy grin.

this fandom is unfortunately too inactive for me and ive ran out of motivation in being one of the people to keep it (diamond-side) slightly more lively.

i still love this fandom ofc, su (specifically the diamonds) will always have my heart and i will always be attached to these characters

ive had alot of emotions tied to this show and creating stuff for it and unfortunately the bulk of them are pretty bad– hence why im going to be alot more inactive

to add, i don't have the healthiest relationship with this account either, its an archive of all the eras of people I've been and the progression of my art and im not really proud of the person i used to be when i was still active on here(i was very childish and obnoxious)— my self worth was tied to online validation about what i made and it made creating stuff tiring and not fun anymore

Hello and welcome to Day 5 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"

Do you know that moment when you hear an opening from a childhood TV show that you were obsessed with before and your brain is like, "But what if you combine this with this and make it into a fanfic idea?". Cause this is how my brain came up with a Mo Dao Zu Shi Pokemon AU. (The Diamond and Pearl Openings are still my jam to this day)

The AU is not fully detailed in my head (yet), but I came up with two versions for it, so I will just write down some details I already have for both versions:

Ver.1

Edit: As of February 6th, this has a title : "Some roads are not meant to be traveled alone"

Wei Wuxian is a new Pokemon Trainer that just started his journey with his partner Vulpix (Kantonian)

Lan Wangji is a more seasoned Pokemon Trainer (he has been on a journey for at least 2 years) and has an Alolan Vulpix as a partner.

The two meet in Kalos, more specifically in Lumiouse City. WWX wanted to see if he could start challenging the Gyms right away, and his Vulpix got a bit too excited and ran off and got lost.

Lan Wangji is in Lumiouse City for a vacation rather than to start a new journey. His Vulpix is the one that finds WWX's Vulpix. Seeing that the Kantonian Vulpix is very young, LWJ feels anger towards the trainer who let the young fox unattended.

When WWX finds them, LWJ is ready to berate him for being irresponsible, but WWX's "Please never run off again like that Vulpix. I was so scared." stops him in his tracks.

WWX turns to thank LWJ for finding his Vulpix and apologizes for the troubles. LWJ, instead of just accepting the apology, tells WWX he shouldn't be so careless, especially when his Vulpix is so young. (LWJ is kicking himself for saying that) WWX takes offense because he wasn't being careless, nor was he abusive towards his partner.

And so their first meeting is kind of a disaster. That, however, doesn't stop them from constantly meeting around Lumiouse for the next week and then the universe (aka me) decides they should journey around Kalos together. (We all know how the relationship will progress)

Ver.2:

Edit: As of February 6th, this fic has a title:

"Life is a journey you must walk to behold"

In this version, WWX is from Hoenn (Hoenn has a lot of water = Lotus Pier). He and Jiang Cheng have been journeying through other regions (started in Hoenn, went to Kanto and Unova) but this year they want to have an individual journey for themselves.

Jiang Cheng wants to go to Johto, while WWX is going to Sinnoh.

I am on my "Give Jiang Cheng a Shinx" Agenda because just imagine him having a Shinx that is as much of a trouble maker as WWX. (Jiang Cheng's sanity is in danger)

WWX has an Absol as his partner. (The similarities between Absol's lore and WWX's personality make me believe that this is a good pair.) Also, Absol is definitely the one that is more serious and responsible between the two.

Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen are from Johto and their family is well known for being Coordinators.

Lan Wangji has an Eevee that evolved into Glaceon as a partner and has participated in a lot of Pokemon Contests in Johto and Kanto.

Lan Xichen has a Lapras as a partner and is not as interested in Pokemon Contests. He does, however, like to nurse Pokemon back to health and thinks about becoming a Pokemon Doctor.

LWJ wants to go and journey around Sinnoh and learn more about Pokemon Battles (the Lan family doesn't like how trainers that challenge Gyms push their Pokemon so hard, and they are more against Pokemon Battles. In their words, "Contests are a more refined art. Pokemon Battles are barbaric and violent.") LWJ doesn't want to jump to conclusions on that topic, while LXC believes both can be just as good, but it depends if the Trainer is a good person or not.

LWJ, once in Sinnoh, wants to experience a Gym Challenge for himself, so he decides to go to Oreburgh City and challenge Roark, the Gym Leader.

He ends up watching a battle between Roark and WWX instead and falls at first sight for WWX and for his passion for Pokemon Battles. WWX is also very kind to his pokemon, so inner LWJ aproves even more of his choice in love interests.

WWX and LWJ end up traveling through Sinnoh together. (Team Galactic is the main villain that they seem to find/fight against all throughout the journey too)

On the other hand, LXC meets Jiang Cheng and decide to travel together through Jotho, with LXC using this journey to further his knowledge as a Pokemon Doctor and to learn more about Jiang Cheng, who, although says harsh things all the time, is a kind person.

LXC and Jiang Chen end up dealing with Team Rocket during their journey.

There you have it.

This is about everything that I have about this AU. Honestly, I think this one will probably continue to grow in the back of my mind for a while longer before I come up with a title for it and, possibly, even scenes (be it Battles or Contest Performances).

(This is mainly for the people who aren't already familiar with my OCs from the other social medias I'm on, so if you're new here, hello, allow me to introduce you to the two characters that take up most of my inspiration these days ^^ )

Maisy is the Toppat Clan's on-the-ground spy and master of disguise. Her disguises are unique in that she does not put any effort into making herself look like any particular person, but rather she opts to dress an ordinary person to better blend in with the citizens of whichever city she finds herself in. She also regularly uses colored contact lenses to disguise her true eye color. Some examples of her outfits below:

Her most notable mission took place in the National Museum of History and Culture shortly after the events of Stealing the Diamond where she was tasked to help then-Mayor Gene Fredrickson find and eventually track down the diamond thief. (see Maisy's Museum Mission here (note: still a work in progress))

Some other things to note. She is a soft-spoken woman of very few words, preferring to speak in sign language if possible. She is also roommates with Earrings, and she goes on adventures with her occasionally to find treasures to bring back to the Clan.

Quille - formerly known as Jada - is a rather nosy reporter with questionable ethics (as in they will shamelessly resort to trespassing, blackmail, and bribery to get the information they want, though only as a last resort).

Jada was a reporter for CNB News in the West Mesa area for about three years prior to the events of Breaking the Bank. Over the course of her short-lived career she had become rather dissatisfied with the way the news industry operated, particularly in how mainstream media outlets were unwilling to pursue and expose the absolute truth on important matters.

Thanks to Gene Fredrickson's unexpected victory in the city's mayoral election, which she found particularly suspicious, Jada's frustrations only grew stronger and her behavior soon became more and more reckless, to the point where she impulsively tried (and failed) to break into the Mayor's office in an an attempt to find any evidence that her intuition was right, which ultimately landed her a month-long prison sentence in West Mesa Penitentiary. Not only that, she both lost her job with the CNB and was effectively blacklisted from every other major news outlet.

She was not entirely discouraged by this however. She instead embraced her newfound freedom, adopted the pen-name Quille, and now continues to investigate and report on anything that interests her. Her primary subjects of interest are of course Mr. Fredrickson, the Toppat Clan as a whole, and, thanks to her stay in prison, the one and only Henry Stickmin.

One more quick thing, while the character concept is mine, I adopted Quille's design from @/snoobble from Twitter. Just to give credit where it's due ^^

Maisy and Quille, while being separate OCs in completely different factions, have crossed paths once before (so far, canonically at least)

Shortly after Maisy's Museum Mission was complete, she snuck into West Mesa Penitentiary to swipe some files of the person she believed to be the diamond thief to learn more about them. That same night Quille decided to break back into the prison to learn more about the prisoner that escaped while they were in jail for trespassing. As you can imagine, their encounter was a little bit awkward.

(I actually wrote a full-on fic about this if you wanna read it here)

I might explain their relationship with each other more eventually, but to put it simply, Quille finds Maisy intriguing and Maisy sees Quille as a threat. Some more, sillier interactions of the two of them, for reference:

The Yuu art was made by the lovely @quess-art 💕

I've seen this before plenty of times, but I had never actually done a relationship chart with my Yuu which led to me to doing this for fun. I liked this particular template cause you can show a progression of the relationships through each part of the main story.

However, I decided to add the little symbols since there was more I wanted to add that couldn't really be properly explained with what was already provided on the template.

While it's probably obvious to anyone who reads my fics, the hearts are to show Yuu's sons since I had do something special for them ❤

Kalim gets a star cause he's not one of Yuu's sons, but he also must be protected at all costs ✨

Meanwhile, the diamonds are by the three guys Yuu considers to be the scariest dudes on campus lol 😂 I didn't show it with the colors in the chart, but there was a lot of fear during her first meetings with those three. However, she wasn't just completely terrified of them. It's just that her instincts told her to be on guard around them, so that's how she always is with Rook and the Tweels even after becoming friends with them.

There wasn't really anyone Yuu ever actively disliked in this chart, although, if the prologue had been included here, I probably would've used that color for Ace cause he did not make a good first impression on Yuu lol

If it didn't make it look messy, I would've shown some undertones of dislike with Sebek early on in their relationship cause there were times when he got under her skin too lol And I would've used it around the Octatrio during book 3 cause they really pissed her off during that part of the main story 😂

Also, for the record, Yuu loves all of her friends. I just used the platonic love color for those whom she's especially close to 💕

Childhood Blankie Progress (Dec 2024)

I realise I haven't written about it much on this blog, but my childhood blankie is becoming threadbare with use, and I decided that I will repair it by sandwiching it between two layers of patchwork fabric.

My blankie is filled with a fluffy polyester filling, and not a dense batting that I associate with "quilts". I really love this fluffy, squishy stuffing, and want my mended blankie to retain this quality. I've learned that I should have lots of space between my quilting (the stitching that goes through all layers of the blanket, holding the sandwich together), or possibly tie the quilt instead. I also like the idea of "machine tying" with some small areas of dense zig-zag stitches (tacking).

As for the patchwork...

I decided to do a scrappy quilt. I collected together a bunch of cotton fabrics I already owned, that fit a colour palette and theme (autumn, especially pumpkins and leaves, cute animals, especially cats, botanicals, solids, patterns, and woven patterns):

...I may also have purchased more fabrics, too!

After doing some practice patchwork with Lil Blankie, I found I really enjoyed making 9-patches and quartering them ("disappearing 9-patch"):

For Big Blankie, 9-patches are made of nine 5-inch squares (seam allowance of 1/4 inch). When quartered, this yields four 7-inch squares. Some of the 5-inch squares are made from scraps.

I'll also include 7-inch squares of both solid fabric, and squares made of scraps. This will help me use up remnants, especially as I get close to finishing all my quilt squares.

While I can't name every single fabric used, these include:

Fableism Sprout Wovens (cotton solid with textured Xs woven in)

Fableism Everyday Chambray, including Nocturne (52% cotton / 48% bamboo viscose chambray)

When I first started making 9-patches, I was pretty haphazard about them. But as I continued, I tried to make them more symmetric, and to optimise the placement of the very soft and draping fabrics (Everyday Chambray) so the 5" square wouldn't be cut during the quartering. This both maximises the continuous area of soft fabric, and maybe reduces fraying due to cutting.

Quilt math!

So, with Lil Blankie, I learned that I need to slow tf down when doing "quilt math".

Big Blankie is approximately 80"x80" (actually a little smaller, and rectangular; but I'm rounding up now, so I can trim excess later).

Using 7" squares (which includes a 1/4" seam allowance), this means I need 13 pieces per column, and 13 per row. This will yield an 85" square of patchwork fabric, which I can trim down to 80".

(Alternatively, I could sew 12x12 and then add a border. But that feels less forgiving than simply trimming excess?)

I want to use patchwork fabric for both the front and back of the blanket (not using a backing). So I need 13 x 13 x 2 = 338 squares of 7".

If about half of my 7" squares are made from Disappearing 9-Patch, that means I need about 42 Dissapearing 9-Patches (yields 168 blocks; I still need another 170 to come from somewhere else). Which means 378 pieces of 5" squares to make those 9-patches. O

Ok, I think I confused myself, so I'm gonna summarise. I need:

42 blocks of 9-Patch (yields 168 squares of 7" when quartered)

170 pieces of 7" squares, from some other method (solid or scrappy patchwork)

I'm about halfway to my goal 42 blocks of 9-patch, and have made some number of 7" squares as well.

So, Since The Main 8 Cast Have Been Revealed For The WitchCraftSMP Gemcyt AU, I Suppose It's About Time For A Summary Post!

If You Don't Know What I'm Talking About, Look At The Tags Of This Post And/Or Go To My Blog And Check For Those Tags Before Clicking Read-More. That'll Show You The Progress So-Far! Also, I Will Try Writing The Below Without My Usual Typing Style As To Make It Easier To Read ^v^

● Starting Up, A Height Lineup!

In order from Shortest to Tallest, we have:

Citrine/Eloise, GoldPearl/Shelby, Jade/Scott, LapisLazuli/Prismarina, GrapeAgate/Lauren, CherryBlossomJasper/Cupquake, Amethyst/Cleo, & Spessartine/Joey

Eloise & Joey were purposefully placed next to eachother in the heights lineup as to showcase the height range of the whole cast. I also tried making sure that no two colored gems were next to eachother as to make it more apparent where everyone starts and ends. As shown with Citrine & Spessartine, I was not always able to do this ^v^"

● Next Up, Worldbuilding!

This AU takes place in a similar worldbuilding to Steven Universe. With the Diamond Authority and Gem Hierarchy System, including it's stance on 'Off-Color' Gems. Off-Color Gems are basically the outcasts of society, cross-gem fusions, flukes, and rebels fall into this category. If a gem isn't useful or otherwise challenges authority, they are Off-Color.

The AU's worldbuilding has everyone, through one way or another, end up on the same rebel planet. On this planet, they are hosting a competition between their resident 'Off-Colors' to showcase they can be useful outside the boundaries of which they were created. Pearls don't have to be servants, nor do Agates have to lead. They can choose their own fate and thrive! If a gem likes their role, that's fine! But if they don't, they shouldn't be labeled a fluke simply because they long for change.

Everyone's Off-Color traits are explained and elaborated on in their own posts, so look to those if you'd like more information. I also plan to write some stories about how everyone got onto the rebel planet from their life before. Some starting at the beginning of their life, others starting at whenever they gained their off-colored trait.

● Fusions!

I already have a few fusions between the cast members planned out, however I will wait to post anything for one reason, You All! Same with the base Gemcyt AU that started this all, I want all of you to be able to draw your own fusions! Whether they become canon or not, whether I take inspiration or not (I will ask if I can before tho if I do), I want to see y'all's creativity with these gem-ified block people!

● What About The Others?

The Others, in this case, refer to people like Bertha, Mertha, The Supreme Witch, Milo, & ect. For now, I have yet to make them, however (for the majority) I already have gems picked out for them. I just gotta draw them.

● Extras?

Extras! The main thing I want to talk about first is that, while I may change some/alot of backstory to fit into the worldbuilding, the character dynamics themselves will remain the same. Lapis Lazuli & Gold Pearl will remain friends just like Prismarina & Shelby, the same applies for Amethyst & Jade / Cleo & Scott. Lapis & Amethyst will have a rivalry just like Pris & Cleo did. And, of course, Grape Agate AKA Lauren will likely have a strained dynamic with Spessartine Garnet AKA Joey.

Another thing is that, while the art above may seem very simplistic, I mainly did so as to make color-palettes easier to replicate! I might draw more detailed versions of them another time, but for now, the blank colors with minimal shading is good for color-picking & quick refrence!
