Ohoho, I love this type of reaction! You see, I'm a person who loves to overanalyze everything, so most of my comics have this kind of thing... The dialogue serves the punchline, but also they tell us something more. Like on this case! You're totally right, Stone DID imply that he can't be happy without Eggman!

First, because I like to think Stone's life was very boring and plain before he met Robotnik. I don't think he was ever truly happy before him. But also, as his comic happens after the third movie, at this point Stone knows what it's like to live without Robotnik (he thought the Doctor was dead for a time, I usually imagine it was a little over a year) so he's sure he can no longer even he content without Robotnik.

As for classic Stone, he's not necessarily happier right now, he's mostly confused. He was just kidnapped and dropped into Eggman's lap, quite literally. But I plan to draw a bit more of their interactions soon, and don't worry, that man is about to FALL.

In Justice (and Graphs) We Trust!

The world could use more silly graphs, so I made some about how often “justice” is mentioned in Dual Destinies (I tried to keep spoilers to a minimum, but there may still be implied/indirect spoilers, so be wary!)

Overall, “justice” is mentioned 407 times throughout Dual Destinies, with Fulbright (naturally) saying it the most, with a full 16% of his lines including the word “justice” at least once!

Fulbright says “in justice we trust” 36 times (5% of his lines include it), and it’s repeated by Athena 3 times and Phoenix twice.

Along the same lines, Apollo says "here comes Justice" 6 times.

Since DD has both a character who talks about justice all the time as well as a character literally named “Justice”, I was curious how often “justice” was used in reference to the concept of justice versus just generally talking about Apollo, so I created a graph about that as well (I call it the “pie of justice” 😊):

after jason comes back to the league bruce finds out he’s in gotham but jason doesn’t want anything to do with him. bruce has no fucking clue what to do.

until.

he’s doing a short interview on a red carpet and the interviewer asks him who his fav gotham vigilante is. at first he’s just gonna give some random brucie wayne answer about batman being hot or something but then he has a lightbulb moment.

he then goes on to gush (for far longer than the interview should go on) about how he loves the red hood and what he’s doing for crime alley because that’s the one place wayne enterprises hasn’t been able to make an impact in. he also says he respects him even regardless of the killing because he understands his perspective that killing bad people stops them from hurting people in the future, even if bruce himself doesn’t think killing is right. the entire thing is slightly brucie, but far more bruce than the press generally sees

though he does end it by asking if anyone knows who the red hood’s stylist is because the white streak is just dashing

Evil Morty's name

...I'm under the impression that the show very much does not want us to call him "Evil" Morty.

1. The name was coined by the fans, not the creators (if this article is to be believed, at least):

3. Evil Morty seems to me to be pushing the idea that being "evil" is something that describes every Morty who rebels against his tormentor...

...which in turn, means it's not defining of him. If a thousand angry Mortys lash out and therefore become "Evil Morty", how does this name differentiate him, specifically? How does it function as a name he'd choose for himself?

We can't really say that only a very small number of Mortys turn against Ricks, either, because he says to Morty Prime: "Now you're Evil Morty too. Sooner or later we all are." If he is to be believed, this means that it happens often. A lot.

...So I think it's a bit like calling Slick Morty "drama implant Morty". There are countless Mortys with a drama implant, but only one who also rolls up his sleeves and is called Slick Morty and who gave his life away in a desperate wish.

6. In the show he claims that being sick of Rick is makes him evil, which can be translated either as:

(a) "I'm so desperate I have no choice but to escape at any cost, even if I have to do cruel things" OR

(b) "you can do any cruel act and it can be overlooked as humorous (couch Morty Prime killing people so he can die old with Jessica cough) but if I do cruel acts so I can escape Rick I'm considered evil"

In theory he could mean either of the two, but I think the first one makes more sense considering it was us fans who named him thus, and we did it because of his betrayal towards other Mortys, not because we judged him for wanting to escape.

7. Considering it turned out he really was worried about Morty Prime, this feels like one more moment where he expresses bitterness and sarcasm towards the name that was given to him:

8. I guess the moniker "evil" can be considered empowering, in a fashion, but I mostly feel this is a really sad part of the empowerment. He escaped, yes, and that's admirable (even if it had to be done at any cost) but that name highlights the absolute worst parts of his struggles. And while he may no longer hope for acceptance, friendship or understanding from anyone, this particular name still feels like it's rubbing in his face that he had to dirty his hands, that his peers are repulsed by him and that he will receive no forgiveness from anyone (at least, not anytime soon). It also reminds me of this post. Strength and cruelty are not the same thing. He is strong but we name him after the cruelty? Especially when we know this is likely only a hurt and lonely kid.

9. I understand that the name may have stuck by now, and even though I admit it has a nice ring to it, I actually hate using it anymore. I like to call him by the one thing that actually sets him apart from all the other cocky or evil Mortys, and that's the one object that is so important to him that it honestly feels like he can't wait to put back it on

something curious about astarion's -1 charisma despite his persuasion and deception proficiences in comparison to durge's high rizz from the default stats + persuasion proficiency as a bard is that astarion's effectiveness at manipulating people comes from being very aware of the expected scenarios of situations. i think he was always purposefully learning and observing how people get what they want (in general as well, not only seduction), he knows what people want/expect to hear and how to turn it to his advantage (like convincing the guards to let him steal in peace, and other proficiency checks). as much as he hates talking to people, he's also definitely had a lot of experience at communication.

durge however. their persuasion skills are uncanny, their approach is vibe-based, they're improvising and experimenting as they go and then it actually works. there's no expected scenario for tricking an orthon to kill himself. it might partly be how bardic magic mixed with bhaalspawn demigod buffs works, they can sense, almost smell people's wants and fears, can use and embrace them.

where astarion has to put a lot of thought and rationalization into convincing people, durge can embody whatever people should see them as, it's instinctive to them, it requires effort not to mould and edit themselves as the conversation goes, while astarion's distinctive personality begins to shine through pretty quick however much he tries.

also every year when the exy season starts there like a whole resurgence of new and old edits and non kevin day fanatics (the few that there are) complain about how they can’t search anything related to exy without them coming up

he tries to control his asshole-ness in interviews but as he gets older and feels safer he gets more expressive- he’ll never be neil but there s a lot of ‘kevin day being cunty to reporters’ compilations

also somehow he breaks out of the like ‘sports player’ famous and is like invited to the fucking met gala and some other big celebrity parties and daydreamers (the self chosen name for kevin’s fan) pass away en mass at the photos

(also just IMAGINE his glambots like…)

aso one time a clip of him talking to one of the foxes at a bar goes viral because he didn’t see the person recording and was saying to one of the foxes ‘yeah and the way i didn’t blow up at that reporter tonight… god i should get an oscar’

he doesn’t *actually* get an oscar unfortunately but he is invited to host and surprising nearly everyone he accepts

he’s very funny and charismatic and just cunty enough that people love him and he starts getting a lot more minor acting gigs, a lot of which he doesn’t take (he’s busy ok) but he does do some small consulting work with movie/tv writers to make exy in films more accurate

also speaking of exy and movies eventually he says yes to selling his story to some movie place and they make one of those ‘fighting through adversity and coming back stronger’ movies based off a real story type things

obviously 90% of the juicy bits are left out but there is allusion to his injury not being an accident and like they do in a lot of the movies, he has a very minor role in it as a coach because the story is based off his life

(i’ve watched a lot of those sort of movies so i know a bit too much about the format lmao)

anyways after that he gets like five fucking billion documentary offers about his life and unfortunately turns them all down

but he’s basically just getting increasingly more and more famous with nearly no effort because the daydreamers are literally insane like rivaling bts level insanity

the fights between diehard raven/riko fans and daydreamers start dwindling to nothing because daydreamers come so hard at anyone who says something bad about kevin on twitter they just don’t try anymore

kevin rarely ever makes statements about what other people say about him or anything in general (the exceptions being andreil/jerejean coming out and a few other select things) but daydreamers have made multiple news/talk show channels make public apologies to kevin without him or his team ever reaching out because of how vicious they are defending him

and one notable time they literally got a talk show host to ‘retire’ (be asked to leave) after saying something about kevin (he said kevin only said his injury wasn’t an accident for clout and then instead of apologizing after being flamed on the internet he doubled down and said riko was a better player)

yeah that guy didn’t ever work on tv again…

anyways daydreamers are insane and protect kevin with their literal lives

some people say they just like him cause he’s hot (which is certainly a certain percent of them and most of them wouldn’t deny he is a snack) but most of his fans are also exy fans mainly because kevin day talks about exy majority of the time and his passion is contagious

there are a lot of ‘i only started watching exy for this sexy kevin day guy but now i’m a hardcore NEL fan’ daydreamers

or like a million tiktoks along the lines of ‘pov you watched a single exy game cause kevin day is hot and now a year later are yelling at your tv cause williams can’t throw a fucking ball to save his life god just give it to kevin and get out of the way idiot’

a lot of daydreamers try to respect kevin’s privacy and don’t take pics/vids of him without his consent but obviously there are ones that still do it which kevin hates, but he’s never had so many people be so ride or die for him he can’t really hate them (and the biggest culprit is still paparazzi most of the time)

one time a vid of kevin singing karaoke gets leaked and his voice is so good daydreamers go to all their favorite artists dms and tags and comments and bombard them asking them to do a song w him

eventually he sings on a song on mariah carey’s classic christmas album and on one of hozier’s songs a couple years later

(kevin and hozier become close friends though most of the general public doesn’t know that because they’re both fairly private people)

the only inkling they have is from another one of hozier’s private story/main story slips with kevin in the background mid laugh

the quality of the photo is so shit but it’s the most genuine laugh that’s been caught of kevin so daydreamers zoom in and cut hozier out (sorry) and it becomes like *the* photo and is viral for weeks on end

also side note andrew (minyard) complains constantly to kevin that there’s only room for one andrew in his life and he has to cut out the other andrew (hozier)

andrew actually really likes hozier he’s just a dramatic bitch <3

anyways that’s genuinely just off the top of my head i love this man so much if anyone wants more i am more than happy to provide he already lives in my head rent free (i’m actually paying him) so i might as well share

He. He literally just says out loud what I've been saying in all my commentary on Re-Animated: they fixed Bucky. He's back, he's the same character he's always been, just "showcased more eloquently". We're seeing him in a new light, he has more layers then before. It's relatively subtle, especially in comparison to the other fourth wall breaks in Re-Animated, but oh my god I love it so much. Not even just because it's funny tbh, but also because it makes it feel like the writers REALIZED they messed up with how they were writing him in the sequels and are actively trying to do better in the series. Purposefully fixing their mistakes. Which I would've been happy with how Bucky is written in the series wether it was an intentional righting of wrongs or not, but it's still nice to have some kind of acknowledgment of how they messed up, y'know?

Idk if I worded this very well but uh, yeah. I'm glad they fixed Bucky :)

The juxtaposition between the “tragic backstories” of the protagonists of my current wips is fascinating.

Because on one of end you have Asha. She had a relatively normal life until she was 14, with a loving father and community. And yes, she did have to step up and basically support the entire Hamlet after her father disappeared and developed an eldest sister mentality of sorts, she was still supported by her community and had Sabino to look after her.

And right after Sabino dies and she feels like she’s lost the last close relationship she had, Earendel comes to her, and is nothing but kind to her. And later she gains a partner in Flazino. She goes through rough things all throughout Upon A Star, but overall she turns out okay and most importantly feels positive about who she is as a person.

Wren never got any of that.

He was whisked away from his homeland before he could even remember it, and constantly had to deal with people looking down on wildborns. He was raised by a military officer, Clara Montgomery, to become a weapon. He was basically a crude experiment to try and show the government wildborns could be used beyond slavery, as a force to wield against foreign nations. He was trained like a dog would be for the fighting ring. Constantly told to release the monster inside him, viewed as a weapon first, and a person second.

But Wren wanted to prove them wrong, he really did. He wanted to be better, especially when he became a teenager. That’s why he took another wildborn he had fallen in love with and fled to a small village. And Wren thought he was freed. He thought he had proved, even indirectly, that he wasn’t the monster everyone wanted him to be. That he had won. Life was tough, yes, but he was happy. Though deep down, there was still a lot of resentment and hatred towards Clara and how she had raised him.

Then the other villagers found out about his lover and killed him. Wren didn’t know how they found out. But regardless he blames himself, even years later. Maybe if he had just been there with him. if maybe he had taken that shortcut home, he could have saved him. But he didn’t.

Wren snapped.

And all of that rage, all that resentment, all that hate came pouring out.

He slaughtered the whole village. Not just the men who had killed his lover, but everyone. Men, women, neighbors, acquaintances. No one was safe from him. He burned the whole place to the ground. It’s possible they could have overpowered him, if circumstances were different. But he had been trained for this. Forged in blood and flames to become a killing machine.

And when all was said and done, when Wren finally saw the carnage he had brought, he knew Clara was right. That deep down, he really was a monster, just as everyone had said. What kind of man does what he had? And from that day on, Wren promised to never grow close to anyone again, to protect them from being hurt by him, by the things he’s done. And every time he’s met with kindness or compassion, he feels nothing but guilt and shame. In his mind, he’s best left alone.

But like his original namesake, he’s a pack animal. And eventually, something’s gotta give.
