Canon genders the clones, both individually and collectively, pretty aggressively. They're men, brothers, boys, sirs. Omega is notable for being the "female" clone, to the point where she's not recognized as a clone in a meaningful way.
But the clones grew up without gendered social groups! Despite how clones are gendered by external factors, gender is functionally a nonentity in their lives until they meet civilians, and civilians do a load of other weird shit anyway.
So why do they still use gendered language?
My argument is that feminine language isn't used as a gendered form of address, but as a form of address that reflects a specific kind of power dynamic and relationship between parties.
Given the structure of the clone army, the only people a vast majority of young clones interact with who could insist on being called ma'am are exclusively kaminoans.
The kaminoans view clones not as autonomous subjects, but as property. They have and expect complete control over their lives and actions. Incidentally, the female kaminoans we see (such as Nala Se) tend to demonstrate an even more proprietary perspectives on the clones.
You can question a sir, like your superiors or trainers, at your discretion, but you can't question a ma'am. A sir is someone who has power over you, but is somewhat responsible for you. The have personal accountability to you in some way. Sirs are responsible for men under them. A ma'am is someone whose power over you is absolute, an authority without accountability, who is not beholden to you but that you must obey. You are tool or a number to a ma'am.
And when you bring clones out into the wider galaxy, I'm not sure anyone would figure it out that quickly.
Say you're a new jedi general. You meet your men, and they address you as "ma'am". Maybe you correct and move on, figuring that they've grown up surrounded by thousands of identical men and aren't great at guessing genders based on social and appearance cues. Scuttlebutt has your forms of address spread through the men by the end of the day, and you don't think about it again.
The clones, on the other hand, take this correction as he/him jedi stating that they want to work with them and suppourt them despite having so much power over them, which fits with both what they know of the jedi and, most often, their leadership style.
She/her jedi (see Shaak Ti especially!), clones maybe treat a little more as absolute authorities. This gendered divide in behavior gets met with, "hm, maybe they're just not used to women." For many jedi, they eventually switch to calling them sir as well, especially as they build rapport.
For Shaak Ti specifically, she is an absolute authority as the representative of the Jedi on Kamino, not just as a figurehead but as a decision maker and educator. Even as the clones grow to trust and love her, she's a relatively distant and all-powered figure. She has near total authority over them, and clones might ask for help or suppourt, but there's no social obligation for those requests to be met, she's just kind. It's compassion, not duty.
Senators, there's a good mix of different factors that make it confusing. "Senator" is always an acceptable form of address if you're not sure how'd they react, even if they should be ma'ams by default, but they're either trying to build rapport for some reason or genuinely want to work with you when they say to call them sir, regardless of the actual power dynamic at play. The she/her senators that respect the clones are in the same boat as Shaak Ti: Padme Amidala may care about clone rights, but I am still just one of hundreds to her and she has no personal accountability to me. Her position is such that she should not and cannot owe me anything. Same with Riyo Chuchi, Mon Mothma, etc. etc.
And a civilian that insists on being called ma'am or sir is going to be an asshole either way, and they technically have power over clones without personal accountability or responsibility for them. It works.
Finally, Palpatine.
He's a slimy rat fuck who pretends to be affable and kind, so of course he's going to laugh and say, "Oh, no, call me Sir!" when you call him ma'am. He is not personally accountable to you, and he does not care about you, but it helps his image and it helps him manipulate people to pretend, so of course he's making you use sir to build false intimacy despite the fact that he's the ma'am of ma'ams, both in power gaps and lack of accountability for his treatment of clones.
So having clones using sir vs ma'am not as a reflection of gender but as a reflection of power? Yeah, I think it works.

here's something stupid: the catcatfish
some quick facts:
they're nocturnal and tend to roam around while awake.
they have keen senses of smell and hearing, but terrible eyesight. despite this, they also have a tapetum lucidum, making their pupils "glow" in the dark.
their fur is short, dense, and oily to waterproof them.
they prefer a diet of mostly meat and are attracted to strong-smelling food like fish, cheese, and anything fermented.
the elongated dewclaw on each front paw is sharp, flexible, and nonretractable. it injects a venom that causes respiratory failure and cardiac arrest in prey and, in extreme doses, humans. veterenarians typically remove the dewclaw venom glands during the neuter/spay procedure.
they grow to an average of 1m and 23kg (3ft and 50lb) but can reach up to double that length and triple the weight!

SWAN 𦢠āļøĀ (Strategic Wyvern Aerial Navigator)
"The āSWANSā are biomechanical lifeforms that after years of mimicry adapted to resemble combat jets. Their wolfram-like skin not only is resistant to the toxic and parasitic dangers of the āfalse oceanā but is nigh impossible to penetrate. While not a real bird they present many similar features and behavior. It's not all too rare to spot them flying in flocks and engaging in courtship
Swans are known to jam signals and strike airborne carriers since theyāre an extremely territorial and violent species. First it will race against the enemy (it should be noted their structure allows them to reach enough speed to break the sound barrier) as a sign that they dominate the air space before they plunge the foe into the ground. Competitiveness amongst the species in a similar fashion has been observed to uncertain ends. In spite of all the gathered studies their intelligence and physical feats are still under research but paired with their enormous size and aggressivity is more than a difficult task.Ā
They are rapacious hunters from the skies and encounters are advised against. Thereās no current methods to defend against the Swans and in consequence it has obstructed facilities, aviation and transportation."

NEW ALIEN

I call them Ocira. They're a sort of combination of seals and octopus. They're pseudo-eusocial and very kind
That wrinkly thing on their chest are their gills, which they can use to express certain emotions.
Their "teeth" are truly spines that can be raised to eat meat, or flattened to chomp plants.
To communicate, they do a sort of drumming and pinching of their swim bladders for different tones and squeaks.
They live on an ocean planet, in shallow, warm waters around reefs.
I might draw them more and tell more about them šø
*update! This post has been edited and is a bit outdated. See the most recent posts about the ocira sophont for better information šø

A look into the environment layout of Rahlo, along with nine close up species profiles of the native plants!
Feel free to ask questions!
Much of Exoton's plant life is characterized by highly specialized root structures, predominantly growing in a vertical, cone-like shape. Most species are derivatives of a key ancestor, the Giant's Needle, sharing a dense, layered root system with a distinctive spiraling growth pattern. This structure provides exceptional stability and resilience, making root trees some of the planet's densest organic formations. Their durability makes them extremely difficult to fracture, even under significant force.

The genus Silurian ("Person of the Silures", in reference to the historical territory of Wales in which they were first found) was initially known only from a single fossil, notable in part for the unusual object fossilized alongside it (1). Though this was generally accepted to simply be a large petrified stick, the "Silurian Artifact" and the associated "Silurian Hypothesis" were often a point of discussion in the topic of dinosaur intelligence and the theory of pre-human civilizations. It wasn't until large-scale mining operations began to impede on their extensive networks of stasis chambers that the Silurians themselves finally woke up and were able to meet humankind in person. To the surprise of many (and dismay of a few) the Silurians were not the scaled, humanoid "dinosauroids" so often depicted, but colorful, feathered, and relatively goose-shaped. Most Silurians who were present in the planet's underground represent the gentry and high ranking military, who were given priority in the earth-based shelters. Most others were evacuated on large, extensive spaceships, all of which are yet to return to Earth. Due to this, the varied mindsets and cultures of the Silurians are in shambles at best, largely replaced by the speciesism and real estate concerns of the upper classes. (1) Much later, the original type fossil was identified as Rohlik, a student who fell to his death after attempting to drunkenly pole vault over a ravine with a large petrified stick.

Fuck Canon Tiingilar
i hate the canon tiingilar recipe with my whole heart. Look at this (original source Galaxy's Edge cookbook). This is supposed to be "blisteringly spicy Mandalorian stew or casserole"? This is a mild chicken curry.
It sounds good, but it's not the rich, spicy, flavor-packed mandalorian stew of my dreams.
Let's start by breaking down the etymology of tiingilar.
Tiingilar is broken into 3 parts: Tiin, gi, and lar.
Tiin is an underived form of tiin'la, or coarse.
Gi is the word for fish.
Lar is a bit up in the air; it could be related to laar, for sing (which anyone who's seen someone bite into something spicier than they can handle can understand), or galar, for spill/pour (makes sense for stew), or even olar for "here", which I suppouse could be extrapolated to mean "whatever is here" for a stew which has flexible ingredients.
But the really important bits are the "tiin" and the "gi"! The first chunk of tiingilar means "coarse/rough fish(y)".
The other food word we have with "gi" in it from canon mando'a is "gihaal", (which, hilariously, breaks down into fish-breath), a pungent fishmeal. It's long lasting and stable which means its probably a staple ration food. It sounds like it'd put most people off at first, but given mandalorian tastes prioritize strong flavors (draluram), possibly including pungent flavors, and "richly nourishing" foods (yaiyai) it's probably a pretty common ingredient.
Guess what fishmeal is! A very high protein (typically 50-60%, but up to 70% for some varieties!), nutritionally dense, and coarsely textured! It's used in any cuisines; some is processed for human consumption but I cannot find any sources that use it in food except in research aiming to combat malnutrition (shout out to researchers at the Abeokuta University of Agriculture for being the best resource about fishmeal in food!). Although we can't know that gihaal would be the same as our version of fishmeal (which is normally processed from whole fish), I think that we can assume that mando'ade woudn't be skimping on the inclusion of bone, which include a lot of valuable nutrients, and would make it coarse.
So, gihaal is a pungent, likely coarse fishmeal that is a staple nutritional supplement in, at minimum, field cookery. It would make nutritionally-dense, protein packed, and strongly flavored base for tiingilar. Makes sense linguistically and practically for mandalorians to build their cooking around nutritionally valuable and shelf-stable rations.
Which brings me to the mandalorian values in food! Draluram (bright mouth: intense, bold flavors), heturam (spicy as in heat burning in the mouth), hetikleyc (spicy as in sinus burn), and yai'yai (richly nourishing, which I personally take to mean both nutritionally dense and satiating) are the 4 canon words that express the priorities in mandalorian cuisine.
These values fit in with the inclusion of gihaal as a base for tiingilar, adding yai'yai if not draluram, but where's my spice? Where's my layers of spice, the sharp sinus burn that makes your eyes water and the creeping warmth that leaves you panting and the bright heat and the numbing and tingling sensation at your lips?
Definitely not in that yellow curry recipe.
The inclusion of ginger and cinnamon (from garam masala) are both nice, but think bigger and broader! Obviously, we don't have mandalorian herbs, but add spice with chilies, cayenne, ginger, horseradish, mustard seeds, sichuan pepper! Bring out warming spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, star anise! Highlight the different elements of spice and warmth and flavor with enthusiasm and delight!
As for draluram, I think the pungent flavor of fish is a nice, bold addition to something for a unique flavor, but let's not forget other players. Aliums like garlic and onions are always lovely, but what about citrus? If mandalorians have behot, what's stopping you from adding in citrus juice or peel or some kaffir lime leaves? What about strong bitter flavors from vegetables you choose, like mustard greens or kale, or the rich savory taste of browned meats if you want more protein in your dish?
Yai'yai, we have a good base of protein and fat and nutritional content from the fishmeal, but why not build it out? Add sugar, both to balance flavors and because energy is energy and mandalorians certainly like their sweets. Fats and oils, other meats and proteins, vegetables and carbs. Add nuts, peanut butter, sesame for added bulk and another element of flavour. I want to see an end product that sticks to your ribs, that makes me skip seconds on not because I don't want more, but because I'm full on one serving.
Back to the etymology. Mild chicken curry is not tiin, nor does it have gi. It's fairly yai'yai, got decent draluram, negligible heturam, and no hetikleyc.
Tiingilar with a gihaal base (in irl cooking, any kind of fish base) and heavier seasoning to add multiple kinds of heat would fit all of those categories so much better.
So I guess in the end, I'm saying I don't have an idea of tiingilar as any one recipe, but tiingilar as a general dish that leans into mandalorian food culture and the literal meaning of the word. Maybe it's little gritty and somewhat fishy, but it's a rich and spicy and flavorful meal you can make with whatever on hand as long as you have a handful of staples.

ALICE: So each of the cases is categorized on four metrics with a standard integer scale, thatās your DPHW.
GWEN: Okay. Now Iām pretty sure I need to try and keep them as even as possible.
ALICE: Ok, so, it makes sense that if youāre low on āWā that means we should probably prioritize processing cases with a higher rank on that metric to bring the average up, right? ⦠So, itās just a hunch but I bet if we have a look at old cases and then try and sort by āWā we can find out which cases got the biggest scores in that metric and reverse engineer what you need ⦠Now, unless Iām wrong, which, letās be honest, is pretty damn likely, when we cross reference this shortlist for common terms weāll find out what Freddy thinks you need and that... is... more... Bonzo?
Loving finally getting a breakdown for why DPHW is important, here.
Now I, like the utter nerd I am, have been tracking the DPHW of each case on a spreadsheet, and therefore was able to do some quick sorting just like Alice. Bonzo is definitely our highest W scorer of the lot ā heās got 2 of the 5 cases ranked as ā8ā on that metric, though he tends to score pretty high on P and H as well.
However.
We are not low on W. When you add up the total DPWHs of every case weāve gotten so far, you get:
D ā 136 (average score 3.2)
P ā 148 (average score 3.5)
H ā 210 (average score 5.0)
W ā 218 (average score 5.2)
W is the highest metric. So either it needs to be the highest, and the balance only works if itās at the top...
ā¦Or Freddie is lying about whatās needed, and intentionally trying to send things haywire.
Not too much mercury or the world ends, not too much sulfur or we all go madā¦
#also fun to note that the dphw for colin getting eaten was 5555#completely balanced#(the crowbar threw it off though)#the magnus protocol#tmagp spoilers#36 outside the box#my magnus protocol stuff#original post#queue cause i'll be at work when the episode airs#fr3-d1 | freddie#magnus protocol speculation/analysis#if we really want to balance things we need more violins#or just to turn people into trees#push d up a little#though again both of those are pretty high on h as well

Women!!!
(Or I guess I should say, hokar!!!!! 'Karā is the most accepted equivalent of āmanā, āhokarā for women. It's not exactly what they call themselves and just came from one tribe's convention, but it's just kind of what happened in the language blender)
During their mating season in the winter, female Prectikar grow longer feathers on their back and arms fir both display and for the babies to hold on to. In many cultures, this is also the time for some displays of their strength and endurance, aka wrestling. The point is to show their ability to either quickly overwhelm their opponent with their strength or have the stamina to bring them down in the long run, something that symbolizes their fitness for carrying and protecting pups. This activity can also be to help relieve tension and grudges between different tribes. Usually, matches are between bachelorettes who are looking for a partner, as seen here, unless itās for one of those āpoliticalā ones between more important people where the opponents are normally taken.
Clothing covering standards slip for this time of year to better show off their sexy dimorphic features. Tusks are covered to prevent fatal goring, and mitts on their lower arms are also usually worn to prevent excess claw poking.
Kar donāt wrestle with each other and wrestling with a female would be seen as out of line because it messes with their established power dynamic, where the kar should never disrespect/overpower/not support the hokar. instead, they run in races (sprints, usually) or play other strategy sports to show their speed and problem solving skills, which they see as useful in the masculine hunter/support role. these kind of races are only really for bachelors, the only time any taken kar will participate is to show off against the youngsters.
Unlike with Cerest, this kind of fighting is supposed to be more of a yearly sport, and is not a part of how they normally operate when establishing social status. Actually hurting your opponent is seen as foul play. Tribes will have a whole separate set of rules/circumstances for actually-hurting each other duels/ritualistic combat, since the type of fighting done during the mating season is mainly for showing off rather than lasting consequences (other than bagging a partner, obviously)
For most, the more tribes that participate in these kind of events better, its not usually a privately held thing. with the introduction of modern video broadcast technology and an audience of xenos who'd be interested to see aliens fighting, I think that a Bachelorette but with body-slamming is not impossible to exist in canon (but it'd be a very short run time of a few months in winter XD )
#ah yes just girls being girls wrestling in the mud pit#i think ive mentioned this before but they widely dont think that being gay is a 'real' relationship you can have so a little mud wrestling#between ladies would never have any tension behind it whatsoever obviously#alien species#original species#drawing#spec evo#speculative biology#xenobiology#worldbuilding#prectikar
