the neat thing about the concept is that for most of the characters I need to explore both their younger self and older self post and pre the time skip. which is another reason why i like Augustus’s character because one of his defining traits as a ten year old is he speaks very very little but when he does he uses a lot of colorful language and is a little jarring with it. and then you see him age seventeen and he talks a little less than the average person but overall things feel a lot more socially acceptable in how he talks, so you miss a lot of character when you just look at him in that age.
i’m very fond of him. i feel like he also symbolizes a lot to will of this like comfortable unfamiliarity because another aspect of it is that augustus is a LOT of things that will isn’t -- for one, he’s queer. secondly, he’s quiet which  is not very common with the people will is around a lot. and also he’s just interested in things that will isn’t which creates this very strange closeness that i really like exploring.
i also think his character design is like super fun. he’s the only guy i can really clearly envision in my brain i like him lots

When Oscar was about seventeen Glissan gave him a notebook, in which he drew scenes from his childhood and awkward, haunting images of the Native Police still at work in the Gulf at the very end of the century. He dictated the captions to Glissan: "Police boys doing duty (Lynch law)", "Dispersing usual way, some good shooting", "Murderer hoppled to tree".

high infidelity.
“Catalina Riegler! You look so beautiful that I could think you’re going to the Oscar’s.”

June 29th 1928, saw the birth of the actor, Ian Bannen
Born in Airdrie, Lanarkshire as a young man, he served in the army and attended Ratcliffe College, Leicestershire.
Ian first appeared on the London stage in Prisoners of War and later had great success in Eugene O´Neills The Iceman Cometh and Long day’s Journey into Night. Bannen was an original member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and also made numerous appearances on Broadway. He made several high profile roles on film in the 1960s, including: The Hill, The Flight of the Phoenix for which he was nominated for an academy award and “Penelope. Scores of other roles followed, both on film and television.
His most notable roles in the 1970s and 1980s were: The Offence, Identikit, Bite the Bullet, Jesus of Nazareth, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Eye of the Needle, Gandhi, Gorky Park, Defence of the Realm and Hope and Glory. In the 1990s, Bannen won acclaim for his role as the father of Robert Bruce in the Oscar Winning epic Braveheart. In 1998 he starred alongside David Kelly in the charming comedy Waking Ned Devine, which was a surprise hit all over the world.
Of course I have to mention him in the reboot of Doctor Finlay in the mid 90’s where he played semi-retired practice partner, Dr. Cameron alongside fellow Scots David Rintoul and Annette Crosbie.
Ian Bannen tragically died in a car accident near Loch Ness in 1999, he and his wife, Marilyn Salisbury, who had been driving, were discovered in an overturned vehicle at Knockies Straight between Inverness and Fort Augustus. His wife had only minor injuries. Ian was laid to rest in Kilchuimen Burial Ground Fort Augustus.

Character ask: Willy Wonka (any version)
These answers apply to every adaptation – that I know, anyway – of the story of Charlie/Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the original book and its sequel Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. I haven't seen Wonka yet.
Favorite thing about them: He's a fun character all around. I love his creative genius, with all the fantastical candies and treats he creates and all the fantastical rooms in his factory. I love his blend of weirdness, cleverness, mischief, and passion for his work. His hints of moral grayness and insanity make him interesting, but his underlying warmth and kindness, especially to Charlie, prevent him from seeming like a villain. (At least I don't think so: more on that below.) He's like an eccentric wizard from a fantasy story, but with a more modern, candy-themed twist.
Least favorite thing about them:
Original book: The whole story of how the Oompa Loompas came to work for him has unfortunate implications. Even after Dahl revised the text and changed the Oompa Loompas from black African Pygmies to light-skinned dwarfs from Loompaland, the concept is still very iffy. A businessman "importing" a tribe of people from a foreign country to work in his factory, where he never lets them leave the premises, pays them in food instead of in money, and tests his experimental foods and drinks on them, which sometimes cause them bodily harm... it wouldn't fly in a book written today.
1971 film: To a sensitive child viewer (as I was), his angry outburst at Charlie and Grandpa Joe for stealing the Fizzy Lifting Drinks is scary and mean, even if it is just a test.
2005 film: I don't like the subplot about his controlling dentist father. A character like Wonka doesn't need daddy issues to explain him.
Three things I have in common with them:
*I love chocolate.
*I'm at least a little eccentric.
*I often wear purple.
Three things I don't have in common with them:
*I'm not a chocolatier, an inventor, or a factory-owner.
*I'm female.
*I've never met an Oompa Loompa.
Favorite line:
Original book:
(Explaining why he won't let Augustus be cooked into fudge): Because the taste would be terrible. Just imagine it! Augustus-flavored chocolate-coated Gloop! No one would buy it."
"Whipped cream isn't whipped cream at all unless it's been whipped with whips! Just as a poached egg isn't a poached egg unless it's been stolen from the woods in the dead of night!"
And the full text of his "There's no earthly way of knowing" poem and the funny, creepy poems he recites in the Space Hotel to scare the White House in the sequel.
1971 film:
"We have so much time and so little to see!... Wait a minute! Strike that. Reverse it." (and the later variation with "...so little to do")
"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men."
"But Charlie, don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he always wanted... He lived happily ever after."
And of course his various quotes from Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, and other literature.
brOTP: The Oompa Loompas, and Charlie by the end.
OTP: None, he's happily single.
nOTP: Charlie or any of the other kids.
Random headcanon:
*In all versions, he's on the autism spectrum – it just manifests in different ways for each different Wonka.
*In the 1971 film, he's Jewish, just like Gene Wilder was in real life (and like Timothée Chalamet, for that matter). Maybe this is true in other versions too. I chiefly like to imagine this as a "take that" to Roald Dahl's antisemitism.
Unpopular opinion: The popular "Wonka is a villain" take is overdone. Yes, he has some moral ambiguity to him, but he's not evil. People often seem to forget that the fates of Augustus, Violet, Veruca, and Mike aren't "punishments" that he deals out. They're accidents that each child causes himself or herself by ignoring his warnings. Now, I don't mind it when adaptations imply that he deliberately sets up those accidents to occur if the kids disobey him, or at least show him as unconcerned with stopping or rescuing them. But I don't think either of those things are true to his portrayal in the book, per se.
Song I associate with them:
"Pure Imagination."

Tell me if I missed anyone! Under the cut because it is a very long list. I'm defining Marauder's Era as the seven years the Marauders were attending Hogwarts. Includes some fanon first names. Organised A-Z by surname. Some liberties taken with uncertain birth dates.

Okay basic questions time before I get a bunch of anon asks
“Two of these are women.”
Father figures also count
“Some of these doesn’t have their own kids”
See point 1
“Why is there only a few characters from the same franchise going against each other but sometimes they aren’t”
Because I only recognized fire emblem, Pokémon, and JJBA at first.
“Aus doesn’t count”
As a previous undertale fan. I could care less. And I am not replacing Tim with BAMSE.
“Replace x with Bamse”
Sorry but. Findus and Skalman have already won. 3 times are a bit too much for us sweds.
“911 is copaganda”
You see Brooklyn 911 (picked by wheel) and you go against fireback mountain. Shame on you anon.
“Dad council these aren’t all random”
Yeah but Neon J vs Wubbox = chaos
Code of conduct

Welcome to the Layton NPC Showdown!
This is a bracket to determine which of the many memorable NPCs from across the Professor Layton games are the greatest.
GAMES INCLUDED: Every game except LBMR. Eternal Diva characters are also not included here.
WHAT COUNTS AS AN NPC?: Anyone who doesn't have a puzzle animation. Characters excluded are Layton, Luke, Flora, Clive, Emmy, Randall, Aurora, Des, Espella, Phoenix, Maya, Katrielle, Ernest, Sherl, Hastings, and Emiliana.
WILL THERE BE NOMINATIONS?: Nope! Every NPC will be included.
WHAT ABOUT THE LAYTONMOBILE/MOLENTARY EXPRESS?: No vehicles. Not characters.
WHAT ABOUT THE PUZZLE LADS/LASSES?: I only plan on including characters that we can speak to in-game, so no Puzzle Lads or Lasses. Sorry to the people who like them 😔
WHICH CHARACTERS ARE INCLUDED, THEN?: Anyone who isn't an exception listed above that is in the profiles of the game! A full list is enclosed below.
WHEN WILL THE TOURNAMENT START?: More information forthcoming on that! I have to seed the bracket first :)
WHY IS NAIYA YOUR ICON?: In my opinion, she's one of the more underrated NPCs of the series. I'll probably cycle through some of the ones I have available to me right now.
WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD I VOTE ON?: Whatever makes you happy :)
ARE ALTER EGOS SEPERATE CHARACTERS?: No. For instance, Ratman is not included because his secret identity is in the tournament.
US OR UK NAMES?: I will try to make available as many names for the NPCs as possible! Which includes their Japanese names and as many names in the localizations as I am able to obtain from the wiki and my own sources. I'll probably reliably have the English (both versions where applicable), Japanese, and French names for every character when I do the bracket rounds. The list below however is entirely in English.
And now for a list of the entries! I didn't check all of these for inconsistencies, but I attempted to ascertain that I used the US versions. Some of them might be UK versions though because that's the version of the game I have (specifically Diabolical Box NPCs and Last Specter NPCs -- I know some of their US names but not all).

Dark Horse - Good Omens
I am down the rabbit hole again.
Ever since I heard that phrase several times in s2, it bugs me. People keep saying "It's a common phrase". Yeah, I know. However, they repeat it several times, and there is an actual dark horse statuesque that Crowley leaves his glasses on.
I decided to look it up. Of course.
Besides the common meaning of the phrase - "someone who surprises you with some hidden quality", I didn't know exactly where this phrase derived from.
It comes from the book "The Young Duke" by Benjamin Disraeli.
The first thing that caught my eye here was the "Duke". So I searched the book. The second thing that caught my eye was that it was published by "Henry Colburn and Richard Bentley".
The subtitle of the book is "A moral tale, though gay".
I found out that the phrase is taken from Byron's Don Juan. But why?
There are several interpretations of the connotation the word gay had in the past. Quoting from an article that I read and to which I will add a link below if someone is interested in reading it, "(The world ‘gay’ did not carry its present connotation as relating to homosexuality, though an 1857 Punch cartoon reveals that two decades after The Young Duke it referred to prostitution). William Kuhn suggests, Disraeli associated ‘gaiety’ with cheerful disposition, although Kuhn finds ‘a hint of Byronic licentiousness in Disraeli’s quotation’ and speculates on his latent homoerotic fascinations with good-looking young men (104). In The Young Duke, Disraeli introduces not only episodes from his early adult life but also presents his passion for politics. He makes a satirical picture of the English aristocracy that indulges in a hedonistic lifestyle while avoiding its political responsibilities.")
Then I decided to check Disraeli, and forgive me, I am not from the UK and I didn't know, but it turns out he has been Prime Minister of the UK twice.
Also, he was the 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, and Terry Pratchett is born in Beaconsfield.
Disraeli's sexual orientation has been questioned by others.
I read the article by William Kuhn that is cited above and this is what it says:
"Disraeli's previous biographers have noticed that there were some romantic irregularities in his past: he preferred old ladies to young women; he married late; he had a passion for male friendship. The standard explanation for this is that in those pre-Freudian days there was a Romantic cult of friendship and that love between men was sexually "innocent" (the underlying assumption being that sexual contact is "guilty"). Some of his earliest biographers (such as W. F. Monypenny and G. E. Buckle) explained away Disraeli's odd history of affectionate relationships by saying it was due to the "oriental" part of his nature. By this they meant that he was Jewish and thus partly "foreign" and un-English. They were also hinting at a Victorian prejudice that sexual license, including same-sex contact, was more common in "the East" or what we would call the Middle East. Lord Blake, whose 1966 biography is still authoritative, hinted that Disraeli was a lot like Oscar Wilde, and left it there. Two more recent biographers (Sarah Bradford and Jane Ridley) have been more comfortable referring explicitly to the homoerotic element in Disraeli's personality, but neither has regarded it as important enough to give it more than a page or two."
Anyway, let's leave his sexual orientation aside and go back to the book.
The book plot: The protagonist of the novel, George Augustus Frederic, Duke of St James, is an orphan, who has inherited an enormous fortune. The young Duke becomes an unprincipled dandy who wastes much of his wealth on luxuries, debauchery, and gambling. He wears effeminate clothes and has adulterous affairs with women. Gradually, he becomes reformed by his honest guardian Mr Dacre, and his lovely daughter May, whom he eventually marries. May helps him realize that his privileged social position requires him an extraordinary sense of duty and commitment to society.
Basically, the story follows the Duke’s slow transformation, under the discreet influence of a beautiful and benevolent woman, from a self-indulgent, selfish dandy to a responsible aristocrat who takes part in the social and political life of his country.
So yeah, I don't think "dark horse" was just a used phrase. Nothing in GO is "JUST"
