Fever is a classic trope, but many people aren’t aware of how to accurately write it in detail. So, here’s some temperature and treatment reference info for all your fever whump needs:
Temperature ranges (degrees F)
(Note that symptoms stack as fever progresses, so anything in the lowest tier will be potentially applicable through the highest tier; I’m not gonna re-type all symptoms for every level if it’s been stated before)
(a) 97 - 98.9 degrees—Normal temperature;
Someone who has a normal temperature but is beginning to develop a fever (temperature increasing) may experience mild symptoms, including body aches, irritability, sensitivity to sensory input (sound, light, touch), fatigue, etc.
(b) 99 - 99.9 degrees—Mild / “low grade” fever
Usually accompanied by mild symptoms (see above). May also start to feel hot/cold, prickly skin, general malaise, or slightly worsened versions of symptoms listed above. Likely to have decreased appetite, possible nausea.
If this is the start of their illness, symptoms may develop for the first time that are not strictly fever related (sore throat, cough, nausea, etc).
Treat with rest and over the counter (OTC) medication. Cold/flu medicine, tylenol, ibuprofen, etc all work.
(c) 100 - 101.9 degrees—A classic Fever(TM)
This is your stereotypical fever. It’s clinically significant (in medical diagnostics) but should be treatable at home/not severe enough to require immediate intervention by a doctor.
Symptoms include feeling generally shitty (all of above symptoms), paleness in the face, dark circles, chills and/or sweats, fatigue, shaking, muscle and joint pain, headaches, nausea and vomiting, weakness, lightheadedness, dizziness, ringing ears, etc. At the higher end of this temperature range, fever dreams may be experienced (though more common at higher temps).
Lots of water and clear fluids are needed to stay hydrated. Unlikely to want food, so soups are a good option for nutrition. Plain crackers can calm nausea. Requires treatment with OTC medications to prevent fever from becoming worse. A cool damp cloth on the forehead may help keep the fever from progressing and can provide comfort if feeling overheated.
If they’re feeling cold, provide multiple light and breathable layers of sheets/blankets. Avoid any materials that trap moisture and replace damp or sweaty clothes when possible. May need help standing or walking to use the washroom.
It is possible to try to care for yourself at this point, but dangerous if no one knows to check on them as it can get worse quickly and with little warning.
(d) 102 - 103 degrees—High fever
This is the upper limit of a “safe” fever and should be treated immediately and monitored carefully. Higher than 103 becomes dangerous (more on that below) and shouldn’t be treated at home.
Significant symptoms. All previously listed are possible and more likely (and occur with greater intensity)—feels colder, shaking more, sweating more, you get the idea.
At this point they will be sleeping more than not. Any periods of awareness will be hazy and very unpleasant. Brain is not processing normally, and may become delirious. May have fever dreams and/or hallucinations (auditory, visual, etc). Periods of awareness/awakeness are more likely to be only half conscious, and memory may be affected.
It is not possible to care for yourself independently at this level—a caretaker is required. Fluids are essential to prevent dehydration, which is one of the biggest dangers. An IV may be necessary if they can’t drink water. The other major goal is to control the temperature and, at minimum, prevent temperature from rising (if not to get it to go down). OTC medications can still be used, but should be combined with use of a cool cloth, ice packs (wrapped in a light towel to prevent frost burn), and other methods of manual cooling.
Keeping the head cool is the most important (to prevent brain damage), but cooling the abdomen (vital organs) is also important. Cool cloths and ice packs can be placed under the armpits, over the stomach, on the hips/groin, and on the neck in addition to the standard forehead placement.
If the fever is still rising and cannot be controlled, then it’s time to go to the hospital. Waiting until it hits the next level will mean an ambulance trip, so better to take them in for treatment now (unless you want them to suffer more hehe).
(e) 103.1 - 104 degrees—Danger Zone
This should no longer be managed at home. A doctor is required for the best outcomes. An IV for hydration is likely required to replace fluids lost from sweating (especially if sweating a lot or throwing up).
Symptoms become more severe. Consciousness is limited and awareness is impaired. Almost guaranteed to be delirious and disoriented, if conscious at all.
At this point, there are a number of dangers: dehydration (can be deadly), unconsciousness (distinct from sleep, may lead to a coma), difficulty breathing, uncontrolled swelling that may impede breathing or blood flow to organs, seizures, abnormal heart rhythm, heart attack, etc.
(f) 104.1 - 105 degrees—Life Threatening with possible brain damage
Fevers this severe are life threatening and almost always indicate an underlying issue that has been missed or has gotten out of control. Some causes include internal bleeding, severe infection (infection of an organ, wound, surgical site, etc), severe heat stroke, extreme physical exhaustion, and similar.
This requires hospitalization. If not already at a hospital, an ambulance should be called immediately. Past 104 degrees, brain damage becomes a distinct possibility, and at 105 degrees some brain damage will absolutely occur. The more severe the fever, and the longer it goes on, the worse the damage and the more likely it is to be permanent.
(g) 105.1+ degrees—Severely life threatening to certain death
The average human can tolerate an internal temperature of up to 107 degrees F at an absolute maximum before significant brain damage, seizures, and death occur.
Note that maximum survivable temperature varies person to person. Most people can survive 105 degrees F, but this is still considered life threatening/potentially deadly.
106 - 107 may be survivable, but it depends heavily on the person and circumstances. This range can easily kill someone. 108 degrees is almost guaranteed to cause death, usually from related complications (usually from brain damage). Fevers of 108-112 are very rarely survived. There have been only a handful of reported survivors who experienced a maximum temperature of 115 degrees F. For 99.9% of people, a temperature of over 107 degrees means death.
People who survive fevers that exceeded 105 degrees F will have a much more difficult recovery and usually some degree of brain damage. The higher the temperature and longer the duration at that level, the worse the damage will be. It is possible to recover from brain damage to a degree, but it is rare to impossible to make a 100% full recovery after brain damage occurs.

Hey Miss Lofty. Do you have any suggestions for remedies or something for colds? I can't have over the counter medicine, and I figured you'd be a good person to ask, even though your job is more keeping people from dying.
I mean, there’s really no remedy for a cold except for it to run its course, but you can try to give your body some love to help it along. Orange juice, vitamin C in general can help give your immune system some help in fighting the cold. Make sure you get extra sleep and hydrate very well. Salt water gargling for sore throat is helpful, be kind to your nose and use tissues with lotion so you don’t look like Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. Anything with ginger in it is helpful for nausea if you get an upset stomach - ginger ale is excellent for this. If you don’t like ginger ale, sprite is helpful too. I’m not sure about cough suppression without like cough drops or something 🤔 that stinks that you can’t take otc meds, I usually at least use NyQuil so I can get some good rest :(
Anyway, I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon! ❤️

Every single part of menstruation aside from the first six months at 11 and a year at 17 was traumatic,
the ten day mega bleeds so bad I wore sweaters around my waist to hide leaks all year round. cysts at 14 and bad meds, new meds with nausea and dysphoria, the pills I finally got that kept it to 6-7 days of gushing like a stuck pig. Not being able to use tampons, the horrific price of pads that actually work, the anemia and the price of meat.
The gradually increasing pain in my back and legs that was aggravated by periods.
Then one day I'm watching a documentary about the social revolution that is the pill and a scientist mentions you can take your bog standard 2 compound pills without stopping, it's actually less natural to force your body into withdrawal every month for no reason but the church intervened. I nearly ripped my hair out in anger.
I started buying an extra otc pill pack every few months and went down to 2 days normal flow with 2 days spotting despite taking them at the correct time every day.
It was manageable and shame free until about 15 years ago when the muscle issues got worse: uterine cramps would spread across the bowels and not only press on important nerves but cut blood flow to my legs this makes the legs cramp and press on more nerves. I had to lobby doctors for several years to try various stronger hormones as seizure/tremor meds make normal doses inert. By lobby, you all know the drill: this could affect your fertility, this can increase risk of cancer blablabla find a way to say you'd be a more productive little ant if your legs worked, find the doctor who actually hears.
Yeah so I don't talk about my personal journey with the pill or the fact that pregnancy is too risky because
the point is to communicate that we have a solution to the horrors for 98% of girls
for the other 2% we have other medicines and options (which should include days off, medical period supplies for free and therapy/group therapy).
And for disabled, ill, intersex kids, mentally ill women, refugees and prisoners: sickening how fast puberty blockers, tube tying and surgeries are deployed when there are so many alternatives. Eugenics is alive and real.
The fight for women's right to control their periods and fertility, for trans folk to control their bodies and marginalised folk to control their fertility is **all part of the same eugenics** and addressing only part of the issue doesn't get rid of the rot at the root. They don't want trans men and birth controlled teens because they're breeding stock, and if you're 'undesirable' you may wake up with your body changed without your consent.
So please tell all your friends and parents of girls that there are solutions and what is and isn't normal period symptoms. We have the science!!!

1 MONTH ON T
 10/25/2023-11/21/2023
Days 29 - 56
Tumblr media
Today is day 29 of my HRT diary! Holy shit! As of writing this, I have just taken my 5th injection.  Let's throw together a quick little list of the changes we've seen during month 1.
Day 29
October 25th 2023
Hygiene:
Looking into buying a new deodorant. Mine is slowly stopping working and I need to use so much more of it. My feet stink! I don't even wear socks or shoes. I never leave my house!!!!! This is wild. My body odor in my underarms is very much locker room stank, and my under-breasts smell like old taco bell. The amount of showers....JFC,
NSFW:
One inch of growth in the first month. Not mad about that at all. This thing is a plump little monster let me tell you. I get random erections, like a teenage boy. Sitting in the car? Erection that tingles and itches. Eating pizza with my family? Erection that makes me have to shift my weight, but I can't escape it! Crying over my broken bong? Yup. Erection there too. Fuck you, tick tack dick.
I own an entire box of toys. I have a very healthy sex life and a partner who is more than willing to assist. But no matter what I try, it doesn’t STOP. And it’s not emotional its physical. I can FEEL this…..tingling? Fullness? I expected sensitive, and I expected wanting to have sex more. But being PHYSICALLY aroused more when I just wanna take a nap? Or watch tv?
Peeing is weird. I was just sitting on the toilet, peeing like one does, and I COUGHED. And my pee YEETED onto the wall instead of going in the toilet. Like....henh? The urethra in the AFAB anatomy isn't anywhere near the clit. The fuck is happening? Well. Whatever, guess this is life now.
If my boobs don't stop feeling bruised soon I STG I might just cut them off myself. Holy fuck. Ow.
Appetite:
Early on I had some increased appetite that I actually benefitted from a lot. It helped me combat my ARFID ED, and was a welcome change. Though, now it's starting to taper out as nausea and PMS symptoms kick in. Hoping it comes back as my cycles hopefully cease.
Body Hair:
Acne in places I never thought I would get it but here we are. Ass acne? Breast Acne? Thigh? Sure. I have Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also called acne inversus, I'm used to that shit. But my NECK?! MY SCALP? MY FUCKIN ELBOW?! The hell?!
Vocal:
Yeaaaaaaaaaa we dropped ya'll. I'm a raspy, cracky, little bitch but OH I am loving it. I can't wait to see where it settles.
Here are some things I wrote during earlier weeks about vocal changes:
October 18th 2023
Night 21-Morning of Day 22
Overnight my voice really started to drop into a raspiness. It's like the beginnings of Laryngitis but instead of squeaking I'm rasping. That said, the rasping feels soothing on those sore areas of my throat. Using my voice in this comfortable range seems to help progress it without hurting it.
October 13th 2023
Day 17
Talking voice has begun to crack
October 16th 2023
Day 20
I think my voice just DROPPED
My throat hit an all time sore today.
I was rubbing it and gargling numbing medicine and water. I'd taken the max dosage allowed for OTC ibuprofen and Tylenol every 6 hours on the DOT. I even took an extra of my fibromyalgia pain management medication. I had trouble eating, vaping (nicotine), smoking (medical weed), and also literally had chose my food based on what would help my throat or at least not hurt it further. I even spent parts of the day silent and nonverbal to try to sooth it and let it rest.
However, I found that to be counter productive. I realized that using my voice in a comfortable chest voice range helped to sooth some of the tenderness. So I sung some poor man's poison and some seether. Then I went back to not talking again. It just HURT all morning. It's even affected my sleep. The throat pain bothers me more than the clit sensitivity.
Just now, before typing this, the pain started to subside and all of a sudden my voice is like gravely and feels like I'm talking from my breastbone and not my throat.
October 17th 2023
Day 21
The sore throat is less intense and no where near as constant. It comes and goes and so does my voice. Sometimes its normal, sometimes raspy.
Body General:
My mother noticed a change in my face shape during a video call. She said I look more like my father.
I've noticed a change in my over all torso shape, however I'm not sure if it's due to weight loss, as I've lost 20 lbs, or the T redistributing things. Could be both I suppose.
Menstruation:
I took pregnancy tests every single day I was late to be safe. All remained negative
After being intimate with my partner this morning, she informed me there was blood. I went to inspect, and sure enough, my flow started. My cramps are intermittent but normal for me in the moderate to severe range. So far the actual flow is light. Continuing to monitor changes.
Misc:
Shaved off my face a few weeks back to monitor the new growth more accurately. Starting to feel itchy stubble on the chin. Here we go.
Moody AF. Might talk about increasing my Cymbalta dosage actually. It's kind of intense.

That fever thing is super interesting EVEN THOUGH it makes me uncomfortable that it sort of validates my family member's superstitions that she got from an alternative-medicine magazine, about people who have fevers not getting cancer, which makes her worry about me naturally not getting a temperature when I'm ill (I still selfmedicate with Ibuprofen to work in spite of minor injury, or when a cold/flu gives me too much pain to sleep, or when headache-nausea makes it hard to stay hydrated)
I couldn't find much credible evidence stating that people who don't get fevers are more susceptible to cancer, so I'm not sure I would put much stock in it at this point.
Many types of cancer can cause fevers, though, and since fevers stimulate immune response (the immune system also fights cancers) if you had cancer and a fever, it probably makes sense to treat the fever as little as possible.
I think it's probably still okay to medicate for pain when necessary (since we really don't have OTC meds to treat pain that don't also treat fever), but limit fever treatment with those medications when possible.

Ayurvedic treatment for migraine

Ayurvedic Treatment for Migraine | Migraine Treatment
Ayurveda Treatment of Migraine Headaches
For those who suffer from migraine, Ayurveda can be a boon in curing this order.
Migraine headache is not an easy disease to do away with. Even with Ayurveda, moderate to severe form of migraine headaches take a while to get totally cured and usually gradually get better in a phased out manner; they usually do not disappear in one go. Usually whenever patient experiences such a headache they themselves often start off with paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen or other analgesics. OTC drugs may provide some relief, although they are typically not effective for most sufferers, and therefore is a very dangerous and harmful practice.
In allopathy treatment, patients who have been diagnosed with reccuring migraines, migraine abortive medications are prescribed. It means treating the attack at the onset can often abort it before it becomes serious. Similarly many NSAIDs are prescribed for a long time like paracetamol, naproxyn, excedrin, metoclopramide, megraleve, analgesics combines with caffeine and antiemetics. In short they treat the symptoms and not the person suffering from migraine headaches. These medicines are made up of synthetic products and are non organic. So, in one way they might be relieving your symptoms for an hour or so but the other way they are making you face other problems which we call side effects. Most of the pain killers are toxic to kidneys and liver which are vital organs.
Moreover allopathic pain killers are just a temporary solution. They have the same type of medicine for every migraine sufferer. Allopathy just works superficially and does not treat the root cause of migraine headaches.
Studies show that the constant use of pain killers may have a rebound effect - actually causing headaches. Dependence on pain killers may also hamper the effectiveness of endorphins, the body's natural pain killers.
On the other hand, Ayurvedais different; Ayurveda treats the whole person and tailor made treatment is devised for each different patient. For example 5 different patients of migraine headache may be given 5 different kind of remedies depending upon their physical and mental makeup, aggravating and ammeliorating factors. There are 253 remedies to choose from for migraine headaches in Ayurveda. This is one reason an experienced and knowledgeable homeopathy doctor is required to work on the disease. Ayurveda also helps and transforms people mentally, emotionally and physically.
Ayurveda treatment of migraine headaches depends totally upon the symptoms presented including the psycho-physical makeup of the patient. The character and the modalities associated and also the symptoms associated with the migraine headaches like aura, vomiting, nausea and the trigger factors decide the choice of Ayurveda medicine that would help that particular case.
What is Migraine or Paroxysmal Headache?
It is very common for each one of us to suffer from headaches couple of times in our lifetime; but for some, headaches are far too common and their recurrences become a major hindrance in leading a normal life. One such type of recurrent headaches is called Migraine headaches. Migraine headaches show a typical pattern of recurrence and are characterized by severe to moderate head pain, involving both sides or one sided which may or may not be present with nausea and vomiting.
Causes of Migraine or Paroxysmal Headache
Although the actual cause of migraine is not very clear, but the researchers believe that migraine headache is caused by a drop in the level of a chemical serotonin in the brain which leads to the inflammation and dilatation in the blood vessels of the brain leading to a headache.
Migraine is often pyschosomatic in origin. There are migraine personalities and most migraine sufferers show one or may of the following behavioral pattern : conscientiousness, fastidiousness, rigidity of views, constant conflict between the environment and self, high level of expectation.
Migraine headache sufferers are more females than males. However, we are observing a shift. Often it is observed to be running in the family, showing heriditary links.
Due to some triggering factors, varying from person to person, there is some kind of vasoconstriction and vasodilatation of the branches of the carotid artery which leads to typical throbbing and congestive attack of headaches. Migraine headache attacks may be triggered by :
Allergic reactions.
Bright lights, loud noises, odors or perfumes.
Physical or emational stress.
Changes in sleep patterns.
Smoking or exposure to smoke.
Skipping meals.
Alcohol.
Menstrual cycle fluctuations, birth control pills, hormone fluctuations during the menopause transition.
Tension headaches.
Foods containing tyramine (red wine, aged cheese, smoked fish, chicken livers, figs and some beans), monosodium glutamate (MSG) or nitrates (like bacon, hot dogs, and salami).
Other foods such as chocolate, nuts, peanut butter, avocado, banana, citrus, onions, dairy products and fermented or pickeled foods.
Symptoms of Migraine Headaches
The signs and symptoms of migraine headaches vary among patients. Therefore, what a patient experiences before, during and after an attack can't be defined exactly. The four phases of a migraine headache attack are common but not necessarily experienced by all migraine headache sufferers :
The PRODROME, includes symptoms experienced by patients hours or days before the headaches. These may include irritability, depression, tiredness, yawning, constipation, stiffness of neck and so on.
The AURA, immediately preceeds the headache. The symptoms may include foggy vision, colored vision, bright lines in front of eyes, sensation of pins or numbness on body, vertigo, loss of smelling power, nausea / vomiting and photophobia.
The PAIN phase, also known as HEADACHE phase : Usually the headache is in one half of the body. It increases gradually and lasts from 4 to 72 hours. However the intensity, duration and frequency of pain varies from person to person. The headache can be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, vertigo, pallor of face, loss of appetite, sensitivity to smells, noise and light and so on.
The POSTDROME phase, the symptoms occuring after an attack of migraine. These include mood changes, depression, tiredness, letharginess, loss of appetite and so on.
Defining Severity of Migraine Headache Pain
The International Headache Society defines intensity of pain on a verbal 4 point scale :Number
Name
Annotation
0
No pain

1
Mild pain
Does not interfere with usual activities
2
Moderate pain
Inhibits but does not wholly prevent usual activities
3
Severe pain
  Prevents all activities
How are Migraine Headaches Diagnosed?
Migraine headaches are usually underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed. The diagnosis of migraine without aura, according ot International Headache Society, can be made on the basis of the following criteria, the '5, 4, 3, 2, 1 criteria'.
5 or more attacks.
4 hours to 3 days in duration.
2 or more of - unilateral location, pulsating quality, moderate to severe pain, aggravation by or avoidance of routine physical activity.
1 or more accompanying symptoms - nausea and or vomiting, photophobia, phonophobia.
For migraine with aura, only two attacks are required to justify the diagnosis. POUNDING (Pulsating, duration of 4 to 72 hOurs, Unilateral, Nausea, Disabling) can help diagnose migraine. If 4 of the 5 criteria are met, then the positive likelihood of diagnosing migraine headache is very high.
Lab Investigations in Migraine Headaches
To rule out possible organic causes of headaches - for example, an aneurysm, tumor, or structural abnormality - a doctor may employ vision tests, x-rays, a CT scan, a lumbar puncture, or an EEG.
Home Remedies for Migraine Headaches
It is very important for those suffering from migraines to realize that lifestyle modifications like regular excercise and reducing stress in their life are very essential in curing migraine headaches. Regular excercise can release endorphins, the body's natural painkilling agents. Excercise may also help to dilate blood vessels, which increases blood flow and may counteract the constricting action that occurs a the onset of most migraines. Identifying trigger factors and avoiding these factors can be very helpful in controlling the recurrence of migrain headaches. Holding an ice pack or a bag of frozen vegetables against your forehead while soaking your feet in hot water may stop a migraine headache if fone right away.
Economic Impact of Migraine Headaches
In addition to being a major cause of pain and suffering, recurrent migraine headache attacks are a significant source of both medical costs and lost productivity. Medical costs per migraine sufferer averaged USD 107 over 6 months in one 1988 study with total costs including lost productivity averaging USD 313. Annual employer cost of lost productivity due to migraine headaches in USA amounted to one billion dollors in 1994, in addition to lost productivity estimated at 13 to 17 billion dollors per year. The workplace model of 9 to 5, 5 days a week may not be viable for a migraine sufferer. With education and understanding an employer could compromise with an employee to create a workable solution for both.

Different Types of Medicines
Medicines Ruxonib Cream act in a variety of ways. Some can cure an illness by killing or halting the spread of invading germs, such as bacteria and viruses. Others are used to treat cancer by killing cells as they divide or preventing them from multiplying. Some drugs replace missing substances or correct low levels of natural body chemicals such as some hormones or vitamins. Medicines can even affect parts of the nervous system that control a body process.
Nearly everyone has taken an antibiotic. This type of medicine fights bacterial infections. Your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic for things like strep throat or an ear infection. Antibiotics work either by killing bacteria or halting their multiplication so that the body's immune system can fight off the infection.
Sometimes a part of the body can't make enough of a chemical. That can also make you sick. Someone with insulin-dependent diabetes, for instance, has a pancreas that can't produce enough insulin (a hormone that regulates glucose in the body). Some people have a low production of thyroid hormone, which helps control how the body uses energy. In each case, doctors can prescribe medicines to replace the missing hormone.
Some medicines AnlotinibINN12Mg treat symptoms but can't cure the illness that causes the symptoms. (A symptom is anything you feel while you're sick, such as a cough or nausea.) So taking a lozenge may soothe a sore throat, but it won't kill that nasty strep bacteria.
Some medicines relieve pain. If you pull a muscle, your doctor might tell you to take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. These pain relievers, or analgesics, don't get rid of the source of the pain — your muscle will still be pulled. What they do is block the pathways that transmit pain signals from the injured or irritated body part to the brain (in other words, they affect the way the brain reads the pain signal) so that you don't hurt as much while your body recovers.
As people get older, they sometimes develop chronic or long-term conditions. Medicines can help control things like high blood pressure (hypertension) or high cholesterol. These drugs don't cure the underlying problem, but they can help prevent some of its body-damaging effects over time.
Among the most important medicines are immunizations (or vaccines). These keep people from getting sick in the first place by immunizing, or protecting, the body against some infectious diseases. Vaccines usually contain a small amount of an agent that resembles a specific germ or germs that have been modified or killed. When someone is vaccinated, it primes the body's immune system to "remember" the germ so it will be able to fight off infection by that germ in the future.
Most immunizations that prevent you from catching diseases like measles, whooping cough, and chickenpox are given by injection. No one thinks shots are fun. But the diseases they prevent can be very serious and cause symptoms that last much longer than the temporary discomfort of the shot. To make life easier, now you can get immunizations at many pharmacies.
Although some medicines IEB Pharma require a prescription, some are available in stores. You can buy many medicines for pain, fever, cough, or allergies without a prescription. But just because a medicine is available over-the-counter (OTC), that doesn't mean it's free of side effects. Take OTC medicines with the same caution as those prescribed by a doctor.

Understanding Leptospirosis Symptoms, Causes and Treatment
Rodent fever is a different name for leptospirosis. Leptospira bacteria, which thrive in moisture and water, are to blame. They later spread to households, farms, and typically rodents like mice.
The tissues of deceased animals or the urine of diseased animals can both disseminate these pollutants. These microorganisms can enter the body by various animal-related pathways or through tainted water and food, leading to serious health problems.
Symptoms Of Leptospirosis
• Fever
• Red Eye (Conjunctival Injection).
• Headache
• Waves
• Muscle And Joint Pain
• Abdominal Pain
• Vomiting And Nausea
• Ulcers
• Yellow Skin Or Eyes (Jaundice)
• Skin Packs
Leptospirosis: What Is It?
Leptospira infections may be the source of leptospirosis. Skin injury or cuts around the eyes, nose, or mouth might result in a leptospira infection. Leptospirosis may be a zoonotic disease that spreads from animals to humans. You can become infected by:
Direct contact with an animal's waste products or urine
Contact with contaminated soil or water
Consumption of infected food or water
Leptospirosis Causes
The bacteria Leptospira is the source of leptospirosis. Microbes can enter your body through the mouth, nose, eyes, and skin tears. Over time, they enter your body through your blood and collect in your kidneys, which are the organs that "cleanse" your blood.
Your kidneys release toxins or waste into your urine. Urinary kidney bacteria are discharged and can transmit leptospirosis to people or animals.
Factors At Risk For Leptospirosis
As a result of leptospirosis:
1. Residing in warm or muggy environments
2. Those who work with animals, such as farmers and veterinarians
3. Working outside in sewage tanks or mines.
4. Camping
5. Using polluted water to swim in
6. Engaging in outdoor athletics
7. Residing in filthy or flood-prone places
8. Managing polluted soil or gardening
Treatment For Leptospirosis
The severity of the disease determines how to treat leptospirosis. Options consist of:
1. Management Of Fluid And Fever
Leptospirosis can be treated with specific drugs in moderate cases. It includes drinking plenty of water, sleeping well, and using over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
2. Antibiotics
The following antibiotics are used by specialists to treat leptospirosis:
Doxycycline
Zithromax
Amoxicillin
In extreme situations, penicillin and ceftriaxone are recommended.
Intravenous antimicrobials may be used in severe cases of leptospirosis.
3. Other Medications
Leptospirosis is a severe illness requiring hospitalisation because it can affect many organs. Depending on the severity of their ailment, some patients may need additional hospital care. Ventilators and vasopressors (blood pressure medicines) are used during dialysis.
How To Prevent Leptospirosis?
There is no vaccine available to prevent leptospirosis. Avoiding contact with potentially contaminated water when swimming or standing in it is the best strategy to prevent leptospirosis. Other strategies to reduce your risk include:
1. Take medications for prevention. To prevent (anticipate) infection while travelling and at high risk for leptospirosis, speak with your doctor about taking medication.
2. Steer clear of animals that have leptospirosis.
3. When touching potentially contaminated water or soil, put on protective footwear and apparel.
4. After floods, stay away from water activities like swimming in lakes and streams.
5. Consume water that would be safe. Never drink unboiled water from lakes, rivers, or streams.
6. If you must handle deceased animals, put on gloves. If you have touched them at that time, wash your hands well if you haven't already.
7. Apply a waterproof bandage to an open wound or wound
.
8. Avoid swimming in freshwater, including lakes, ponds, and streams that may contain uric acid.
9. Since mice and other rodents are carriers, keep them out of the house using efficient pest control.
10. Wear protective clothing or shoes When working with contaminated water, soil, or animals.
The Final Say
The risk of contracting leptospirosis is approximately the same whether an individual is an animal or a person. However, it can also spread through polluted water or soil. The urine of infected animals is the most prevalent vector for its transmission; however, it can also spread through other means.
Leptospirosis is a disease that, in most situations, manifests as a relatively minor illness, yet, it has the potential to lead to more severe illnesses, such as meningitis and kidney damage. It is crucial to look for therapy as soon as possible to reduce the likelihood of these issues occurring.
To avoid risk, people should avoid urinating fresh water and entering it, especially after flooding. They should put on protective gear if they work with animals.
