The sound of John Constantine’s incredulous voice entered the meeting room before his body did. “Fight an Infinite Realms ghost? Are you insane?! Do you want to get us killed?”

Zatanna spun and almost snarled at him. “What would you have us do then, Constantine? Maybe you’re okay with sacrificing people sometimes, but we’re the heroes. We can’t just let it keep wreaking havoc. There’s no reported deaths yet, but we don’t know how long that’ll last.”

He leaned against the wall nonchalantly and lit a cigarette. “Well, what’s it yelling about?”

“What?”

He took a long drag before continuing. “Realms ghosts– they’re basically immune to our magic, but they’re easy marks if you know how to deal with ‘em. They all have some sort of Obsession. Just work with that and they’re remarkably simple to manipulate.” His voice turned to a grumble, “Doesn’t mean they can’t be a huge pain in the fucking ass sometimes though.”

Tapping some ash off his cigarette, he looked straight back into the room again. “So… what’re they yelling about?”

And Ambessa had nothing to say to Mel about her powers having visibly awakened? Even when Mel offered to go with Ambessa, giving her the ultimate opportunity to make Mel a weapon for real? And Ambessa made no attempt to find or retrieve Mel - not just her daughter and the remnants of the family Ambessa professes to love, but also her ultimate weapon - when she disappeared? And Ambessa trusted Singed and Viktor on their home turf - neither of them hiding how insane and self-serving they are with every reason to take over Ambessa's soldiers or just blatantly turn on her as soon as it benefits them - more than she trusted Mel? While Caitlyn (and by extension Piltover) was visibly and clearly falling away from Ambessa's teachings before Ambessa's eyes? (as if getting rid of certain people allows piltover to get rid of fascism but we won't get into All That)

Not only do I struggle to be hyped for Mel's powers beyond how amazing and beautiful she looks, but I can't help but feel like Mel is somehow less powerful in season 2 than she was in season 1, and not in an interesting way. As if Mel's ability to bend all of Piltover politics and economics to her will in season 1 now means nothing in season 2? You can argue that Jinx's attack led directly to Mel losing ground in Piltover - because I expected Mel to have to claw back that power without being able to rely on people who are too easily seduced by Ambessa and authoritarianism, and she would have to get creative to go toe to toe with her mother. I expected pushback to her mage identity that she would have to navigate. But instead this went either unwritten, or was ignored or discarded. Instead Mel is removed from the main plot, cutting her off from what made her the most interesting - only for all of Mel's very real talents, her very real powers and abilities, to be not only translated but REPLACED with magical powers she doesn't know how to control, and by the finale, those magic powers are the only powers that are considered real. Mel takes a backseat to Piltover's governing and decisions, a backseat to Jayce of all people who was not only new to politics mere months ago but made poor governing, strategic, and diplomatic decisions when he had that power. In season 1 Mel stayed off the "throne" but she did pull its strings one way or the other, and she makes no attempt at this in season 2

In my least generous suspicions, Mel was gentled and quieted to capitulate to an agenda for other characters who had to be correct and heroic - or wrong and villainous - no matter what the leadup narrative said, given her powers to help sell the game and set up future shows, and was effectively ejected from the Arcane story with faceless soldiers and a role she doesn't want because she was inconvenient there

so annoying how people ignore that adora’s “protectiveness” is not just a sweet quality and that she has like, a martyr complex because of abuse. like that is literally part of her character arc, learning to let herself be taken care of and to stop throwing herself on the chopping block.

same with people seeing catra as someone adora protects through a solely shipping dynamic lense or this damsel in distress almost and portraying it as this romantic thing (usually to make them fall into an opposites masculine and feminine dichotomy (not that masc and fem couples are bad but this misses the point) when catra actively hates it. the climax in their relationship is catra as the protector, adora’s knight in shining armor (paralleling utena) for a reason.

#it kills me bc this or adora being strong is why ppl insist adora must be butch and catra must be femme #and honestly it’d bother me less if you stopped acting like butch adora has to be paired with a femme catra #when they could both be butch #but also bc while it isn’t just presentation presentation is part of it and catra is the one character shown to prefer presenting masc #like femme catra is literally seen as a joke in the show #but anyway catra has an inherent nurturing and protectiveness to her it was just suppressed due to Child Abuse🙃#it’s just so frustrating bc not only are we missing the point of adora’s arc (like scorpia for example is actually about embracing her #nurturing and protective side)#it’s like catra’s character is just thrown to the way side completely #so people can project onto adora #can’t believe im ranting about this but it’s like spop fandom invents new mischaracterizations every year #like they look out for each other but catra takes on the role of adora’s protector as she is the more vulnerable and being exploited #as she-ra Good Grief #but nooo catra can’t be butch she Must be adora’s femme #they can’t both be butch or masc (or acknowledge adora’s canonical character arc)#bree talks #catra #she ra #adora #catradora

Annoying that the response to deeply legitimate complaints about the quality of clothing being mass produced for all price points (even expensive brands have gotten worse) is to ALWAYS harp on buying second hand and shopping at thrift stores. When that requires much more luck, patience, free time, travel, etc than having quality clothes available anywhere the way they were in living memory, AND those quality second hand clothing become a nonrenewable resource if nothing of quality is being made. Buying thrifted clothes is NOT a long term solution to the fact that even the fabric available at fabric stores is worse than it used to be.

#it’s very individual solutions to a large scale problem #like poor quality is a symptom of the viscious machine of capitalist exploitation destroying our planet. you can’t individual #solutions yourself out of that. and it’s frustrating that every conversation turns into Try Thrifting! like yes that should be PART of #it but not the ONLY answer ever given

Shen Yuan's life would have actually been far more difficult if he was the only transmigrator. Instead of airplane, he would have been dealing with an active and malicious spy who would not have hesitated to take advantage of him and his situation.

Either he believes the entire amnesia story or picks up that SY is an imposter. Maybe even both. He believes the amnesia first but then realizes something more is going on when he tries to take advantage of the so-called "amnesia."

Whatever the case, Shen Yuan's life would have gone from easy mode to medium or even outright hard.
