At the back of my copy of The Vampire Armand, there's an old interview with Anne Rice talking about creating that novel. I've never forgotten her answer to one of the questions... It haunted me for years.
It gives incredible insight into how and why she wrote such beautiful, brutal and broken characters, and what she endured in the creation process.
BUT before you read this, I'm going to STRONGLY warn you, it goes to very very DARK places
Q: What are your work habits for a novel?
A: Once I truly begin to write, I work obsessively, in twelve-hour days, punctuated by days of long sleep and vivid dreaming. Starting time and ending time are no longer important. I might begin at 9 A.M., or after noon or at eight in the evening. I go from there. I turn on the computer and write, write, write.
My room is a mess. Notes are scribbled on the walls so that I can look up at them at the appropriate moments and insert the date, the name, whatever, when I need it. Books are stacked so high that people have to search for me when they come into the room. Opened books with marked-up pages are stacked on top of one another.
I become suicidal. I go through a horrid despair some time or other before the final page, during which everything seems meaningless—from the dawn of history to the very hour in which I am writing.
I’m intolerable to live with. But I spread myself thin over a number of loved ones and staff members so that no one person has to put up with how intense, hysterical, and miserable I am.
When I get elated and talk fast and furiously about wonderful aspects of history or the characters, or good developments in the story, people run away from me. I don’t blame them.
While the novel is being written, I try to avoid dressing for outdoors. No one can make you go out if you don’t have shoes on. Not even in the south. I wear long velvet robes and soft velvet slippers. I refuse to go out. All food is brought in. I eat hamburgers because they are easy to hold with one hand while reading and holding the book with the other hand.
In the middle of the night I read, sometimes on the carpeted floor of the bathroom, just because it’s warm. I am wretched. I don’t care anymore about being abnormal. Writing is everything. Everything. It seems impossible to write the book. It seems impossible to lift a hairbrush to brush my hair. But I do it. I put on mascara every day that I write.
This period of intense work lasts about six weeks. It’s best that way. My imagination is overheated, and my memory clogged with data of varying importance. If I go over six weeks, I begin to forget things; I feel the loss of intensity and information and I become all the more self-destructive and obsessed.
The end of the book is a big event for me. A big event. I start screaming. I put the hour and the date at the end of the last page. I expect everybody to understand, at least a little. It’s a triumph! The darkness of destiny has been driven back for a brief while. I celebrate. I scream, eat chocolate, and sleep.
Right near the end of writing The Vampire Armand, I realized I had to return to Italy, especially to Florence, and at once I began to make preparations for the trip. As soon as the novel was finished and off to the publisher’s, as soon as it could be accomplished, I flew to Italy. That gave me hope, a way out of a life threatening darkness that often follows the climax of a book. But I still ate chocolate and screamed.
While writing, I don’t want to rest. I don’t want to sleep. Why sleep? It seems stupid, except when weariness overcomes me like a giant cloud of poisonous vapor. Then I sleep fifteen to twenty hours. I tell people to go in and out of the bedroom and ignore me lying there, as if I were dead. I won’t talk on the phone. I won’t open my eyes if I don’t have to. I dream terrible, upsetting dreams.
I want to kill myself. But I can’t. I can’t do it to other people, and I have work that must be done, novels that must be written. So I don’t kill myself. Besides, I don’t think it’s good to kill oneself. It’s a horrible idea. It has a horrible effect even on acquaintances.
I think a lot about people I loved who are dead. I think of how dead they are, year after year, ever more dead.

What changes have been made to the sekais so far?
Empty SEKAI now has a lake, as well as stepping stones leading to a currently locked door in the centre. The lake is also full of stuff relating to Mafuyu's feelings, like the apple her mum used to cut into bunnies, her favorite book from when she was a kid, Ena's drawing of her, and also Kanade's music plays in this area.
Street SEKAI is now bigger with more streets (all of which are inspired by different streets worldwide, including Boston, Mexico, Argentina, and Hamburg). All of these streets are blocked off by walls though, though some of them have started to crack. Also Nagi's ghost is in the SEKAI but it might have just been created by An and not be her legitimate ghost.
Wonderland SEKAI now has a port with a boat (that seems to have been used before??? probably was part of some imaginary game Tsukasa played as a kid lol), as well as a few different islands. Also there's a phoenix. It talks. It's probably the phoenix from the Happy Phoenix play that inspired Tsukasa as a kid.
Stage SEKAI now has an outdoor area with a city in the distance (unknown if they can actually go to the city). Sometimes the flowers & ponds decide to give the girls flashbacks to memories of them giving/receiving hope and similar things as well (plus with Haruka it just straight up shows her what her childhood idol is doing in present day. somehow)
Also all the SEKAI now have a sapling growing in them. I wonder what that could possibly be connected to and what event we could be leading up to...? Something something Journey to Bloom, Brand New World, WLEs being called World Bloom events in the game data.

Epel Facts Part 2: Family (pt2)
Epel says that he would sometimes play in a barn as a child, where he once got trapped by snow. His family didn’t know where he was and no one could heard him calling for help, so he ended up breaking down the door to save himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Epel temporarily had a pet rabbit when he was younger, after one got caught in one of his father’s traps.
He nursed it back to health and would take it on walks, and says that he would get nervous that it would get attached to someone other than him, since people would feed it vegetables when they went out. He eventually released the rabbit back into the wild.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are many references to how Epel enjoyed playing outdoors as a child.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Ace complains about the variety of shops in the town on the island Epel is surprised, saying that there aren’t even any places to eat hamburgers at all where he is from, which surprises Ace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Epel says that Halloween in Harveston was more of an event to gear up for the upcoming apple harvest, when forty relatives and people from the village would gather at this house to eat.
When asked why he is glad he is able to use magic, Epel talks about being able to harvest apples and levitate crates.
He tells a story about a time he lost a scarf that his grandmother made for him when a bird stole it off his bicycle (along with his breakfast).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Determined to get back his scarf, Epel borrowed a broom from a person sweeping nearby and flew after it. He says that he made it in time for class but someone found his abandoned bicycle and called the school, which led to everyone discovering that he’d been flying. While his teachers were angry at him and his family was worried, he says that he regretted nothing, as he’d been able to get his scarf back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Epel says that he has been a target for bullies since he was a kid, as people tend to assume that he is weak and “back home, the only way anybody ever saw you as powerful was if you were big an’ buff an’ strong.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Epel says people in his village were kind, but once he started going to elementary school in another town he would get into a lot of fights. His grandmother says that Epel would come home in tears but Epel insists that he just kept facing down people who gave him trouble, even if they were bigger or stronger, and he earned the name of “The Poison Apple of the Felmier Family.”

SSR Idia Shroud Bloom Birthday Personal Story: Part 3
"Happy Birthday"
(Part 1) (Part 2) Part 3
Tumblr media
[Ignihyde Dorm – Birthday Party Venue]
Riddle: So now, here is the final question.
Riddle: “What would you like to do in the coming year?”
Idia: …Go out.
Riddle: EH!!???? I DIDN'T JUST… MISHEAR YOU THERE, RIGHT?
Idia: Nooope. Thanks for the predictable response.
Idia: Ortho gathered some data that the hamburger shop down in town was real good.
Idia: Looks like they got a limited event going on too… So I'm thinking I wanna go ASAP.
Riddle: Is it really that good? I don't really see the appeal…
Idia: Ah, how like you. Didn't expect anything else.
Idia: Also, I bet I could chill at Whistle Park near the port all day long. That is, until my energy and stamina depletes.
Riddle: You'll be outside all day long!!?? …Apologies. What would you do at Whistle Park?
Idia: I mean… Obviously I'd be gaming.
Riddle: YOU'D GO ALL THE WAY OUTSIDE JUST TO PLAY A GAME!?
Idia: YEAH, SOOOOO―!!!!!!!!
Idia: When I heard that a new game for my favorite series was going to be released, I jumped online to access their site, and…
Idia: YOU CAN'T IMAGINE THE IMMENSE DEPRESSION I FELT TO LEARN THAT IT WAS A LOCATION-BASED GAME!!
Riddle: …A-A location-based game…?
Idia: One of those games that rely on the location information from your phone. There's been a ton popping up recently trying to get everyone to get up and move around.
Riddle: Ah. So are you really going to that hamburger shop to get something to eat, or…
Idia: Obviously I'm going because it's a designated spot to get game items, and battle others, duh?
Idia: And speaking of which, Whistle Park is one of the best places on Sage's Island with a ton of those spots. It's the most efficient place to make my rounds.
Riddle: Ah, that's more like it. But for it to even drag you outdoors… That game must be particularly invigorating.
Idia: I mean, not really? It's got a pretty common gameplay, and I planned on ignoring it, 'cause it's not relevant to a shut-in like me.
Idia: But then Ortho was all, "Hey, let's play together, Nii-san!" and started looking up all the hotspots on Sage's Island…
Idia: Looked like we could have more fun with it than I thought, so I said fine, I guess…
Idia: …I guess it wouldn't be terrible to be able to adventure with Ortho while we're here for school.
Tumblr media
Riddle: The interview has now concluded. Thank you for the interesting conversation.
Riddle: The only remaining task for you is to simply fly on the Birthday Road. Here, please take this broom.
Idia: You just say "simply fly" like it's nothing… And on top of that, I gotta use a super fancy broom like this? I'd only draw attention to myself.
Riddle: Is that bad? It looks to me to have a tranquil and classy feel about it… It suits both you and the outfit you are wearing today.
Riddle: I am certain that Ortho is impatiently waiting for you to come out, as well. You should hurry and go, at least for him.
Idia: Hiee! There's that signature Riddle-shi straightforward praise like it's nothing! I can't stand it… I'll just have to run away to the venue, I guess.
Tumblr media
Idia: Become one with the wind, I'm becoming one with the wind, I am one with the wind… Grit my teeth, and go!!

National Barbecue Day
From hot dogs and hamburgers to pineapple and vegetables, there’s something for everyone at a barbecue. Gather your friends and family and get grilling.
There’s one thing that truly tells you that it’s summer, and that’s the rich savory smell of barbecue floating through the air. In every small town all over the world, the smell of starter fluid and charcoal is a sign that something beautiful is happening in a backyard somewhere. National Barbecue Day was created to laud this age-old cooking practice, and to encourage us all to get out and try our hand at creating delicious backyard cuisine.
Learn about National Barbecue Day
The word ‘barbecue’ is used to describe the name of a gathering or meal, style of food, grilling device, or cooking method whereby barbecued foods are cooked and served. A barbecue can refer to a type of social occasion that features this sort of cooking. It can also refer to the way the meat is cooked, as well as the cooking method that is used.
We love nothing more than getting our friends and family together on a warm day and enjoying delicious barbecued meat with a fresh and crispy salad and other tasty side dishes. When the sun comes out, even if we only experience a mere glimmer of light, the country transforms and a BBQ is the first thing on everyone’s mind.
If you are planning on hosting an event, whether it is a celebratory occasion or a mere get together, an outdoor BBQ never fails, and National Barbecue Day celebrates this! Not that we need an excuse to get the barbecue out!
Barbecuing is typically done outside by smoking meat over charcoal or wood. Of course, you can also barbecue fish and vegetables as well. There are a lot of different countries that practice barbecues, with a number of regional varieties. You can spend some time reading up on the different styles of barbecue and the various traditions. Look at the different items that are popular in various areas. For example, pulled pork sandwiches are a big hit in Memphis and North Carolina. In Maryland, pit beef prevails as the main choice, with mutton being popular in Kentucky.
There are a number of different techniques that can be used when barbecuing. This includes grilling, roasting, and smoking. The technique after which a barbecue is named incorporates cooking while using smoke at very long temperatures, as well as long cooking times.
History of National Barbecue Day
First let us begin with a simple definition, what is barbecue? Barbecue is a process by which food is prepared over an indirect heat, and is flavored by the smoke produced by the source of that heat. In that one simple sentence, you begin to get an idea of just how complex the process of proper barbecuing can be. Everything you do when preparing a barbecued meal changes the flavor of the end product. That’s where you get the term “apple smoked” or “mesquite grilled”, these meals have all been touched by the flavor of the wood-smoke they were cooked over.
The origins of barbecue seem to lay with the indigenous Haitians encountered by the Spanish when Columbus first arrived. They discovered them cooking meat on sticks suspended above the fire, flavored by the smoke and heat, and brought the process back home. So it was that term barbacoa entered the Spanish lexicon, and it didn’t take long from there for it to become barbecue. The process has spread all over the world and is now used to prepare all sorts of things, from every type of meat imaginable to fruits and vegetables. Anything is possible with National Barbecue Day!
How to celebrate National Barbecue Day
Get your friends together for an outdoors barbecue in your backyard. Everyone loves the taste of freshly grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and steak! Those who don’t will certainly enjoy grilled pineapple and eggplant, and that’s just the beginning of what can go on your grill.
Do you like Mexican food? Fantastic! Try making fajitas with grilled bell peppers, tomatoes, and onions. Of course, our personal favorite is barbecue chicken, especially with a rich and savory barbecue sauce. Ultimately you can do whatever you like, but remember that National Barbecue Day is all about family, friends, and food, so spend the day appropriately!
If you’re worried that you are going to set your hair on fire, you can even get BBQ caterers! There are several things you should be mindful of, though. You need to find a company that places a strong emphasis on quality.
From the cooking equipment and machines used to the ingredients cooked, everything needs to be the best of the best. You should also take a look at the various menu options they have available. Make sure you are happy with the dishes that are on offer. One of the best ways to determine the worth of a catering company is to read the reviews that have been left by others.
What do they have to say about the service they received? Would they recommend it? This is the best way to get an honest assessment. You will instantly get a feel as to whether this is a BBQ catering company you want to hire. Of course, we would definitely encourage you to try and do your own barbecue! However, if you can’t, this does not mean you need to miss out. Plus, a bit of help means you can enjoy time with your friends and family members!

Okay one more ask then I'll leave you alone lol (unless you don't mind talking german stuff) Are there any particular places or sights you'd recommend to someone visiting? Like something they really shouldn't miss out on while in Germany?
I love talking about German stuff! Keep in mind that I haven’t been to Berlin since before the pandemic, so not sure if all my recs are up-to-date, but these were my favorite places when I lived there:
Teufelsberg is one of my fav places on earth! It’s an old listening station from the Cold War built on top of a giant hill of WWII rubble covered in greenery/forest that’s basically been turned into a shrine to graffiti (which btw is everywhere in Berlin, the street art scene is incredible there) and it’s a fun hike to get to the top
Hamburger Bahnhof is a very cool contemporary art museum with a bunch of weird installation art, also one of my fav places
All the museums on Museum Island are great, and the Berliner Dom is there too if you want to go up to the top for a view of the city
Brandenburger Tor is a great landmark to see, and if you go at the right time there are cool events around it (I went to a projection art festival there and it was amazing)
The Holocaust memorial is very powerful, as is Topographie des Terrors, which is an incredible indoor/outdoor museum that I would highly recommend
For shopping, the Mauerpark flea market has great stuff and is huge (would recommend learning enough German to haggle!)
If you like contemporary theater, Schaubühne is great, and the opera and ballet companies are very good if that’s more your thing— tickets can be cheap depending on where/when you get them and if you can get a student or senior discount
Not sure how the nightclub and bar scenes are rn but I would recommend trying to find a local source for those if you’re into that! The “big ones” generally aren’t worth the cover price (and if you’re American you can’t even get into some of them on principle lol), so try to find some hole-in-the-wall types if you can
I don’t have any specific restaurant recommendations (except maybe the rotating restaurant at the top of the Fernsehturm if you want to be a fancy tourist), but make SURE you get some Currywurst (there’s even a fun museum around the food) and some Döner! Berlin has a lot of great Turkish food and some fantastic Vietnamese as well. If you want classic “German” food, go somewhere that says they serve southern German food (from Bayern aka Bavaria)
There are also a lot of awesome parks in Berlin if you want to hang out and look at dogs or kites or stuff like that, it’s a super green city! Tiergarten, Treptower Park and Tempelhofer Feld are all great, and the Botanischer Garten/museum is lovely (I went there a lot since I lived close by)
And finally, if you’re anywhere in Germany around Christmas, go to a Christmas/winter market! Beautiful (often handmade) things to buy and so much delicious food, I miss those a lot
These are all just from my experience being there! If you want a really robust tourist experience I recommend looking at one of Rick Steve’s guidebooks :)

Celebrating the 4th of July: America's Grand Festivity
The 4th of July, also known as Independence Day, stands as a hallmark of American history, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This day is synonymous with patriotism, celebrating the birth of a nation founded on the principles of liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness.
The Historical Significance
Independence Day marks the momentous occasion when the thirteen American colonies declared their independence from British rule. The Declaration of Independence, primarily authored by Thomas Jefferson, laid the groundwork for the United States of America, establishing a government that derived its power from the consent of the governed. Each year, Americans honor the courage and vision of the Founding Fathers and reflect on the nation's journey and achievements.
How Americans Celebrate the 4th of July
From coast to coast, the 4th of July is celebrated with immense fervor and a wide array of festivities. Here’s a glimpse into how Americans come together to mark this special day:
Fireworks Displays: Perhaps the most iconic tradition, fireworks light up the night sky in towns and cities across the country. Major displays in cities like New York, Washington D.C., and San Francisco draw thousands of spectators, creating a dazzling spectacle of lights and colors.
Parades: Patriotic parades featuring marching bands, floats, military units, and local organizations are a staple. These parades often showcase the community's spirit and bring together people of all ages to celebrate.
Barbecues and Picnics: Family and friends gather for outdoor feasts, indulging in classic American fare such as hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, and corn on the cob. These gatherings are a time to relax, enjoy good company, and savor delicious food.
Concerts and Festivals: Many communities host concerts, festivals, and fairs, offering a blend of music, entertainment, and local crafts. These events provide a festive atmosphere and a chance for local artists and businesses to shine.
Historical Reenactments: Some towns, especially those with rich historical backgrounds, hold reenactments of significant events from the American Revolution. These reenactments offer an educational glimpse into the past, making history come alive for spectators.
Sporting Events: Baseball, often referred to as America's pastime, plays a significant role in 4th of July celebrations. Many people attend Major League Baseball games, where patriotic ceremonies and fireworks add to the excitement of the sport.
A Clean and Festive Celebration: Dumpster Rental Services
With all the celebrations comes the inevitable cleanup. Whether it's a community event, a large family gathering, or a neighborhood barbecue, managing waste effectively is crucial to keep the environment clean and enjoyable for everyone.
This is where dumpster rental services come in handy. Companies like Dumpster Rentan offer convenient and efficient waste management solutions to handle the post-celebration cleanup. Renting a dumpster ensures that all the trash, from leftover food and disposable plates to decorations and fireworks remnants, is collected and disposed of responsibly. This service not only keeps your surroundings tidy but also contributes to a more environmentally friendly celebration.
Incorporating dumpster rentals into your 4th of July planning can make a significant difference, allowing you to focus on the fun and festivities without worrying about the aftermath. So, as you prepare to celebrate this Independence Day, consider the benefits of a dumpster rental to keep your community clean and green.
Conclusion
The 4th of July is a day of joy, reflection, and unity for Americans. It's a time to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. As you join in the festivities this year, remember to cherish the freedom and values that make this country special. And, of course, ensure your celebrations leave a positive impact by managing waste efficiently with a reliable dumpster rental service.

Works in the exhibition consist of cast hybrid forms as well as sculpted elements in ceramic, wood and resin.
Articulating connections between the natural and constructed world, Fry’s sculptures respond to architecture, history, the human form, and the flotsam of everyday life. Fry’s figures are typically female or hermaphrodite, of imaginary descent, and melded with elements to portray strength, shelter, and metamorphosis. The exhibition will also feature a series of stacked forms evoking connection, precariousness and the uncertainty of our present time. Fry’s masterful use of imagery and the sheer physicality of her materials provide a sensual and surreal experience.

In-N-Out Burger in Alhambra, CA: A Local Culinary Icon
Tumblr media
In the bustling city of Alhambra, California, In-N-Out Burger stands as more than just a fast-food restaurant—it's a culinary institution with a dedicated following. Since its inception, In-N-Out Burger has become synonymous with quality, simplicity, and a commitment to delivering a classic American burger experience. In this article, we will explore the charm and enduring appeal of In-N-Out Burger in Alhambra.
Iconic Beginnings:
Founded in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder, In-N-Out Burger started as a humble drive-thru in Baldwin Park, California. The Snyders' commitment to fresh ingredients, made-to-order burgers, and a simple menu laid the foundation for what would become a beloved West Coast fast-food icon.
Timeless Menu:
One of the hallmarks of In-N-Out Burger's success is its timeless menu. Focused on simplicity, the menu features classic items: the Double-Double (double meat, double cheese), the iconic hamburger, cheeseburger, and the Protein Style option for those opting for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. The menu's consistency and limited selection contribute to the brand's identity and customer loyalty.
Quality Ingredients:
In-N-Out Burger's commitment to quality is evident in its use of fresh, never frozen, 100% beef patties. The menu's ingredients are sourced with care, and the commitment to freshness extends to the hand-cut fries and real ice cream used in their shakes.
Secret Menu:
Part of the allure of In-N-Out Burger is its "secret menu," a not-so-secret list of customizable options that customers can order. From the Animal Style burger, featuring extra spread and grilled onions, to the Neapolitan Shake with strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla flavors, the secret menu adds an element of fun and personalization to the dining experience.
Cult Following and Community Engagement:
In-N-Out Burger has cultivated a devoted fan base, and its red-and-white arrow logo is a familiar sight to locals and travelers alike. The brand actively engages with its community, often hosting events and supporting charitable causes. The company's commitment to maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere contributes to its enduring popularity.
Efficient Service and Cleanliness:
In-N-Out Burger is known for its efficient service and commitment to cleanliness. The streamlined ordering process, open kitchens, and spotless dining areas create an environment where customers can enjoy their meals in a welcoming and well-maintained space.
Time-Honored Traditions:
In-N-Out Burger embraces time-honored traditions, including its distinctive white and red aesthetic, the classic paper hats worn by staff, and the practice of printing Bible verses on their packaging—a tradition initiated by the founders that continues today.
