I'm reading these tattoo history books (because I am an eternal art student that can't do an apprenticeship without being a nerd about it) and because of Japans huge influence on all Western tattooing and it's ties to the yakuza, I am now above averagely educated on yakuza tattoos... But honestly I've never been into reading about organised crime so I don't know shit about anything else yakuza related.

The 'yakuza' section of my brain is now a big folder with tattoo information and images and next to it is just a note titled 'anything I know about the yakuza' which reads: - weirdly chill and accommodating to '50s to '70s American and Dutch tattooers coming over asking all kinds of questions about their tattoos - weirdly chill and accommodating to that guy asking them to review one of the yakuza video games

So my conclusion based on my extremely limited information is that just like on a first date, when communicating with the yakuza you should find some common interests or ask them about themselves. This will go great. what crime.

I follow primarily black cosplayers on Insta, and they have forever changed how I see Koriand'r. I do not recognize her with straight hair or light skin, who is this woman DC, and where is my alien princess???

I'm playing with her costume. Her mini-skirt is a skort, because I cannot imagine flying with a skirt, but also she would wear a mini-skirt (it is alien to her why humans have problem about it). I changed her silver accent to gold because I wanted her to have a warm palette, but maybe it was not a good choice. I'm not sure, colors hate me. I don't know if it's the paper or whatever I did, but some colors turned awful, and I had to save it by bringing out the gouache. The purple is still not exactly what I wanted, but it's better.

I've been posting through it on twitter, but fuckin hell the new Magic set is genuinely pathetic.

It's a set steeped in the catchings of "cowboy Americana" but they're such cowards they hastly added "oh the plane was uninhabited before the set started so no icky colonialism here!"

Except that made it SO MUCH WORSE.

To begin with, it seems the people writing the story and flavour text didn't get the massage this was a "new" world because people get on like they're been there for decades.

Parts of the ~cowboy~ aesthetic are just thrown in without thinking about what they ACTUALLY mean or represent. The first chapter of the story talks about mission bells ringing. Oh, like, from a mission building? A mission building that was only in Texas and Mexico because of fucking CATHOLIC MISSIONARIES AND COLONIALS.

And to circle back to "oh but there were no natives uwu", did they not realise that it was actually ENDORSING the idea of fucking Manifest Destiny? The whole myth was that the white man was "finding" all this shit and civilising it while ignoring (read: subjugating) the native population. Saying oh but OUR cowboys are manifesting their destiny in a ~good~ way doesn't actually make it better.

I've also heard the baby defence that, "well Magic isn't the place to tell that kind of story" OH WELL GEE maybe they shouldn't have told a fucking cowboy story to begin with!

And for what? What does the story give us for this? A whole bunch of villains from previous sets showing up for no reason, but with cowboy hats and in saloons. Fucking incredible.
