anyway wrt the grayson name i like the idea that it was anglicised when they crossed the atlantic and then just stuck that way. dicks position in gotham vs the other wayne kids is thee most isolating and foreign — he’s lost every connection to his life and family, and he’s stuck in an unfamiliar city with a bunch of strangers in a big house on the hill. the same as with robin, it makes sense he’d cling to what he had left. he’d be stuck under a new spotlight, with a different audience, and to keep himself safe he’d hold onto the name grayson, protecting the memory of his parents, with both hands and never let go.

do i think he’d ever take the wayne name? eh, probably not. out of bruces kids (excluding duke for obvious reasons) i think neither dick or jason would ever change their names. if jason hadn’t died? maybe. but not now, and never again. the little dance dick and bruce have been doing round each other for twenty or so years where they are both father and son and best friends and brothers is so difficult to untangle that they don’t even try. bruce has nightmares in canon of being confronted by the graysons for taking their son from them. i imagine that while he’d never say it, whenever bruce hears dick referred to by paps as “richard wayne” there’s some deeply buried, burning pride. but he would never dare to speak it aloud.

great news for you last night i was in the trenches and diagrammed about it

the entire piece is mainly themed around vax's death at the end of c1 but i was also thinking a LOT about the champion's relationship with his own mortal roots as well as the RQ's relationship with hers. thats mostly what the blood is getting at. the idea that each of them despair their own mortality but for different reasons (the raven queen hates that she was mortal once and that it's still part of her, and the champion grieves that he had to sacrifice his mortality to serve her). not sure how well i communicated that part though

the vex and vax ravens at the top are part of that too wrt to how their story sort of represents that entire internal struggle that both of them experience. plus the twins generally are just very easy to parallel with everything related to the raven queen.

i gave the raven queen a mask like a barn owl because... birds are cool.. .. and the champion's look is just a combination of various vax depictions

Cause that center bit looks like a pomegranate to me (please let me be ur Queen of the Underworld Shadow Realm, I love some good Hades x Persephone symbolism) and also I’m debating whether the sides are a mask or a caduceus or, taken as a whole, an owl.

If you wanna really get into the delusions, you could say that the mask refers to his deceit, the caduceus would reference both the fact that he turned out to be a snake and the healing aspect of his de-corruption (plus the whole thing with Hermes with his caduceus leading souls to the Underworld vs. MC & Co following Aerin into the Shadow Realm), and the owl would refer to his intelligent nature that everyone underestimated. But then you’d be digging right alongside me.

Anyway, the sides could be something else entirely but I’m kinda digging my heels in over the pomegranate thing.

Addition: another interpretation of the pomegranate could also be as an allusion to the kidnapping of Persephone wrt what Aerin did to Nia

1. What Disney films inspired “Reach for the Stars?”

There’s Tangled, Princess and the Frog, Encanto, Beauty and the Beast, a little of Frozen, and The Owl House. (Ik the last one is not a film but shhhhhhh)

But for Non-Disney inspirations, there’s HTTYD, a bit of the movie Guardians of Ga’hoole, a book series called ‘Wings of Fire,’ and some Rise of the Guardians.

Mostly though, I take what I can get from the Wish Artbook and twist it into my own idea for it. Plus, some songs that I listen to. There might be other movies that inspired me, but these are the ones I could think of for now.

2. How does Sueño feel about the other Starboys in the Wishverse?

Sueño considers Cielo as one of his closest friends and sees KOW!Aster as that very warm and reliable family member. These two are his main pals, since he warmed up to them first. Wish Granted!Star is a handful buuuut, he’s sweet. He reminds Sueño of his younger self and a bit of home. He misses the Astral Realm a lot :(

Haedus is a bit of a stranger to him for now but he's drawn to him. He'd like to open up and get to know him more. Bonding over some shared trust issues maybe? I think they'd make really good comfort buddies. :))

For Antares, Altan, TGATS!Aster, WRTS!Aster and Castor, Sueño hasn’t interacted with them much but he thinks they’re okay acquaintances he’d be fine interacting with. Just no sudden advances please. He gets all flinchy 😅

I’m planning to keep the way Magnifico grants wishes that look animated by hand. Similar to how he granted that woman’s wish of being a dressmaker and the admittedly cool-looking scissors and fabric animation.

I’m also taking some inspiration from the song sequence “Almost There” from Princess and the Frog. Basically to explore the concept between dreams and reality. Similar to Tiana, I imagine it that whenever Asha daydreams of what could be, whether it be her own or other people’s desires, it’s in a 2D style animation. The wishes inside the bubbles are also in the 2D style, since it’s more of an abstract and “on-paper’ idea.

Meanwhile, when snapping back to what’s solid and real, it reverts back to 3D animation.

Just something neat that I think would’ve been cool that as more people act on making their dreams a reality by themselves, 3D sequences would become a lot more frequent than 2D ones.

Sueño’s stardust that he uses to make pictures and communicate would look 2D as well while the drawings in Asha’s book would have some small sketches and mini-page-flipping animations of references to past Disney movies. (Especially a reference to the famous ball bouncing practice animation. The basics~ ✨)

2. What is the relationship between Magnifico and Amaya? Are they the typical passionate/evil couple or are they the more typical rich/empty couple?

I kind of don’t understand what you’re trying to ask here, sorry. But to answer it anyway, Amaya and Magnifico genuinely do love each other and find comfort in knowing that they’re not alone in how the world has left them bitter with their own crushed dreams.

However, while Amaya is more self-controlled and calmer, Magnifico is emotionally driven and tends to get carried away when it comes to vengeance. Such so that there are times where the couple don’t always see eye-to-eye and Amaya feeling like there’s a distance growing ever larger between them.

Think of Charity and PT Barnum from “The Greatest Showman” basically, but eviler.

3. Does Sueño’s powers have any limits because of his younger age?

No, not really. It’s really more on how to control those powers and not have any accidental emotional outbursts. (I guess you can say, a bit similar to Elsa)

He also can’t permanently grant wishes but that’s more of a general star thing. Only Alpha Stars have the granted ability to do that when they earn it.

I LOVE a Filipino cuisine that we call ‘Adobo.’ It’s marinated chicken in soy sauce :))

However, Sueño would probably freak at the thought of eating a poor animal. He’d go vegetarian. I think he would just settle for a nice scoop of ‘Cookies and Cream’ ice-cream from me instead. 😅

5. We know that Sueño doesn’t like closed places and we know how he behaves in those situations. Would Magnifico use Sueño’s fear to manipulate him in some way or would he use another alternative?

Sounds like a very in-character thing for Magnifico to do sooooo, I approve this theory. But you know, if the star is too stubborn and refuses to cooperate even with this method, he could always just threaten the safety of a certain girl to force him to. :)

Congratu-fucking-lations on beating Owl, that fight felt incredibly good to beat my first time. Can I ask what your setup was wrt prosthetics/skills/buffs? When I beat him the first time I was being stubborn and basically ignored all my tools and then had a clarity snap when I saw my friend using shuriken for something that didn't even cross my mind

Didn't use buffs but used firecrackers and the mortal draw ability to take out chunks of his health, otherwise i just focused on taking advantage of openings and avoiding his bag of shinobi tricks to slowly whittle his health down

By that point I'd gotten deflecting his attacks decently down pat so I got him via posture damage once he was at abt half health each phase

My friend was watching me play, I was scrambling and screaming the entire time and didn't expect to beat him that attempt but I WAS quite caffeinated which also helped

wrt court of owls - ig it really depends on what u want to achieve with the narrative. if i were to rewrite them, my priority would be stripping it of the blood libel trope, and removing their weird machiavellian plotting to create batman and robin.

the easiest fix in that regard would just be to make the talons regular ol' emotionally volatile undead, kinda like darkest night (derogatory). i already think that's an interesting dynamic - even ignoring the peanut gallery of dead parents, it could be a fun conversation of like... people who've died in gotham, and the idea of a legacy. maybe jason escaped this fate because he died in ethiopia. maybe steph escaped this fate because she was so quick to return to life. maybe some remnants of bludhaven get caught up in the crossfire. maybe bruce is forced to directly reconcile with his ghosts. maybe maybe maybe.

having talons possess autonomy that has simply been corrupted by their new state of being also allows for more interesting character beats than like... silent assassins who wear fun little hats. the owl motif is a slay, however that's really where my compliments end.

dick being a centrepoint could also be super interesting, but again - it cant be because his great great grand-icicle was a weirdo serial killer. "the gray son" being the stupidest part when his first name is dick is the most impressive thing good grief

i do also think that the idea of a maniacal secret society is done a lot more effectively in black mirror, hush or even gd batman year one tbh. there's not a lot to go on that hasn't been done a hundred times already, unless u make them realistic interpretations of the grotesquely rich. there is definitely space for that in the batman mythos rather than ghoulish phantoms in a sewer. give me more regular, normally evil oligarchs. get ollie to bully bruce about donating his money. it'd be funny.

wrt guardians of ga’hoole (coming from someone who grew up reading the books and still does enjoy the series to an extent): unfortunately that series has a lot of racist/questionable undertones too, like the nest maid snakes being written a lot like a slave race and the owls’ prejudice against non-raptor birds (ie. puffins, seagulls, crows) being treated as a fact of life (and it’s even weirder because they tackle the subject of owl species supremacy as an explicitly bad thing that only the villains participate in). i’m also kind of iffy about how the middle kingdoms are written as a fantasy counterpart culture to china, but i never got to that part of the series when i was reading it as a kid so i can’t really say anything about it.

anyway sorry to dump this into your inbox, the topic of racism (intentional or otherwise) in xenofiction is something i’ve been thinking about and that anon’s ask made me remember the undertones i didn’t see/ignored when i was a kid reading them
