Fun fact I learned about asking for help: sometimes... People don't mind. I mean, sometimes people do mind and they refuse to help, and that's ok. But sometimes, you ask your little sister to help you carry laundry, and she'll say okay. Sometimes you'll ask your mom to proofread an essay, and she'll be excited to get to put to use her English degree. Sometimes when you ask your older sister for homework help, she really wants to share her knowledge and feel smart. Sometimes a random stranger on the internet has been waiting to tell someone the exact way to care for magnolias. Sometimes your grandpa just wants to spend time with you, he doesn't care if it's to study for a hard test or tease him for his lack of hair. I guess, sometimes, by asking for help, you help other people.
I learn that again every day. Everyone is trying their best. Today I was doing housekeeping at the care home. Every person who can hold their legs up while I hoover did. If they could pick up their slippers off the floor they did. I didn't ask. I go into every room with the expectation that I will move the furniture and their belongings. But they see me come in with the hoover and without hesitation they help me as much as I am able. I'll move the table, Mabel. Thank you for picking up your slippers. I love you.
I spoke to one resident about the paper, as I emptied her bin. Yesterday's paper was too big for the little bin and was making it difficult to tie up. She said I'll fold it smaller tomorrow. I nearly cried.
People tell me they couldn't do what I do. Why wouldn't I do everything I can to help Mabel? She does everything she can to help me. Even if it's not much
hi friends I need you to know i read standard deviation way back in 2013 when I was 15 and malleable. now i am 25 and taking electrical engineering courses, in an accelerated masters program, finally learning statistics for the first time and every. single. time. we discuss the concept of standard deviation my permanently altered brain thinks "yeah yeah the statistical significance of drunk mario kart with your graduate instructor yeah we all know it" anyway i also reread it on a nearly yearly basis if i had to wager
So I need you to know that this ask resulted in a good 15 minutes of texting back and forth, squealing. It's just so unreal to think that all this time later*, people are still reading and finding joy in our fic.
Thank you so much for reaching out and sending this ask 💖💖💖
* Standard Deviation is 10 years old!!! We began posting on November 14, 2012!!!
I hate the excuse that “things were Different then.”
Time has never changed empathy or kindness. People have been demanding rights and equality forever. There was a goddamn actress in fucking 1700s France who wanted equal rights for women, abortion access, equal rights for black and white people, etc, etc, and was eventually executed for these beliefs.
People are people. And people are inherently kind. Anyone who tries to convince you otherwise has been consumed by the close-minded, capitalist, every-man-for-himself mentality that plagues man. Do not cave to their disease.
found this note in a book while doing research for my masters and figured id share
"you're in pretty good shape for the shape you are in. if things start happening don't worry, don't stew, just go right along and you'll start happening too"
It didn’t hit me until recently that people genuinely think Kamala Harris was a police officer because of all the people who call her a cop online.
Like I think maybe it’s important people should know she was a prosecutor. She was once a district attorney and later an attorney general for the state of California. And we can discuss how related that is to police work and how tied she is to the carceral system etc etc (but for fairness would have to include her record of pushing for lowering incarceration rates through programs helping former prisoners + her office refusing to jail folks for low level weed offense). But she was never a police officer. Like people should get that clear. Kamala Harris was never a police officer. She was a district attorney. She was never a police officer.
hey hi hello it's the screaming anon again but quieter this time I just realised you also wrote the love without weakness, lies, limits series and am once again screaming
I am holding you in my arms and squeezing you tight.
(Love Without series for anyone who wants to read - mind the ratings)
not to sound like a boomer, but I need some people to learn how to write emails in a semi-professional (at the very least) format so you're not cold emailing a business/potential employer/any other stranger about formal matters in the exact same way you'd DM a close friend on instagram
the formality/language can loosen up in the email chain once you've established a rapport and you match the other person if they're being less formal, but please don't have the very first email you send a stranger be written in all lowercase ultra-casual sms slang with no greeting or signature and a billion emojis
