every other day i make this post on twitter so now the tumblrinas get it. i greatly prefer the original evangelion series to the eva rebuilds and my main reason is because the rebuilds were too afraid to make asuka genuinely bitchy and not like, tsundere rude.

okay!!! got my thoughts together about in stars and time!!! many spoilers.

spoiler-free review -- Wow, There Are Certainly Things That Happened In That There Time Loop !!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! !!! ! ! ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! !! !!!! ! ! ! ! this game broke my heart like six times. you should play it. heed those triggers though cause i probably maybe did not do that as much as i should have

-me at the beginning of the game, a seasoned player in shouting 'it's the human connection!!!!' at media, bc it's my favorite thing in the world: it's the human connection, siffrin!!!!!!!! talk to your friends!!!!!!! me at the end of the game: IT IS THE HUMAN CONNECTION. I AM IN TEARS. MY HEART IS IN PIECES -gets me every fucking time.

-odile: you loved us so much you were going to break the whole entire world and honestly that's cute. sif: :( -it's so much. it's precious it's heartbreaking it's everything. odile's not wrong though!!!!! -me, regularly about cats doing Things: they just want love!!!! me, about sif, now: THEY JUST WANT LOOOOOOOOVE

-and it's not just the human connection!!!! it's being able to rely on yourself, too!!!! to show yourself the kind of kindness you need too, to be capable of being kind to yourself, not just accepting help from other people (as important as that is, as important as being able to ASK for it is, for siffrin) but accepting help from yourself -if that makes sense -helping yourself!!! you don't forget about your past self, or any self!!!! -'my self-loathing isn't that strong that i'd literally kill another me.' EXACTLY!!!!! IT NEVER IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that line took me out -i hated fighting loop so i was so happy. that one kinda worked out

-oh man loop being a sif from a different universe was not on my bingo card at all for this game (-i didn't have a bingo card. but i was wildly theorizing about OTHER things while i was playing.) -and that sif can start to be the person they needed? that loop needed? -MAN!!! AND THAT PUTS SO MANY OF LOOP'S STATEMENTS IN A DIFFERENT CONTEXT -when they're like. 'wow! what if you ARE manipulative and disgusting :)' - :( - :(((((((((((((((((((((( -loop i hope you can be happy.........wherever you are................................ -i want to have more thoughts about loop but right now i am still at 'aaaaaaa.......... :(' -'i asked for this job, stardust.' they asked to help themselves :') they asked to hurt themselves :') they asked to keep themselves trapped in the horrors :')

-one of the things i love about the game is that there's sooooooooo many little details that you pass as you go through the loops that you have to come back to bc they become important, like the carving tools, the weapon room, the books!!!!! -going through and seeing these details over and over and then going 'OH SHIT WAIT! I HAVE TO GO BACK THERE' -it's just built so well!!!! i liked that. -needing to try all of bonnie's snacks so you know what their favorite food is!!!!! -how sif's reaction to the same items changes!!!! -the list in the head housemaiden's office!!!!!!!!

-minor disappointments that there was no real resolution for the country that disappeared, just bc so much was made of it? -THAT'S what i was wildly theorizing about -but also, like, it still........doesn't ultimately matter? -like, i definitely would've liked to have known! -i feel so stupid saying this bc my favorite book series is literally a series of unfortunate events and i will defend the lack of answers in the end for my entire life!!! -but there's also. definitely enough to theorize about it all, too

-but yeah! ultimately in the face of other things in the story -- sif's deep-seated self-loathing and desire to remember and be remembered -- remembering, specifically, their home, as pivotal as it is, is not........necessarily the point -it's about identity, but there's lots of kinds of identity, lots of pieces of what makes up someone's identity, what contributes to a new identity when something about you has been taken away from you, what are the pieces of you in the first place? -and not just for sif, for odile, too

-and part of it is. sometimes, you have multiple homes. sometimes? your home isn't the Home you had, it's the people you come to love, and that doesn't make it less than the home you had before, but you can still feel the gaping absence of a "natural" or expected home, you can still feel the loss of what you did have and could've kepts to -/lulu vandelay sits up in a cold sweat bc she literally just wrote that exact same thing in her most recent headcanon ramble fic, and has to take a moment to stare at the wall about the joys and agony of the human connection again, and how precious found family stories are

-there's so much in this game that i feel like i could still unpack more boxes. gosh

-i put 55 hours into this game over like. a little over a week? almost two weeks??? -actually it was more like 45 -- there were some stretches of time i was not close to a save point and had to put my switch in sleep mode for a few hours until i could go back to it. so the game counted a little more than i actually played -I POWERED THROUGH. I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED NEXT EVERY TIME SO BADLY -and i love how. it's like, a little hard to get stuck. at least the way i played, i feel like it unfolded pretty consistently -i would, perhaps, have. played a little slower, though. just. -bc the game hits a point where it starts to get VERY HEAVY. it stays good but i was concerned about the time loops from the get go (i love time loops. i love the thoughts that come with time loops! and oh boy did this one.........bring the thoughts........) so by the time sif was starting to lose it about the time loops I WAS ALREADY THOROUGHLY LOSING IT ABOUT THE TIME LOOPS -also i'd put the game down and go 'no, lulu, you yourself are not in a time loop.' -it was very quickly breaking my heart!!!! sif was hurt and IT HURT!!!! sif's heart was breaking and SO WAS MINEEEEEEEE -sometimes it's like, cathartic in a way to experience those feelings through someone else -- sif being trapped, feeling trapped, feeling like he's always doing something wrong and it's always his fault, maybe if he didn't do this it would work out and it didn't, trying again and still getting punished for it, not wanting to be forgotten (so desperately that you trap yourself in a time loop bc you don't have a home!!!!) but it still hurt!!!!! it still hurt a lot!!!!!!!!!! -in a great way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but it's so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god.

-i do kind of want to replay it, though. maybe not right away bc it's a game that works beautifully the first time you play it bc you uncover things at basically the same pace sif does, and right now i think i would just go, 'sif you need to act out of disrespect now and read marc's notebook, sorry.' -but i. would like to experience this story again. when some time has passed!!!!

-okay. look. -i was considering the diary in the orrery as either sif's or the king's; that either one of them was 'the original' and the other was 'the wish craft one' (-how else would the king have gotten that diary?) (-or, well, idk, maybe he found it. makes you wonder.) -bc the parallels between sif and the king were REALLY GETTING TO ME. there were SO MANY. literally wrote down 'oh sif you're not beating the 'actually the king' allegations here' -and that the power of that wish craft was what caused the country to disappear (which the ka buan book speculates anyway) -and -- also not that sif needs a reason to have a terrible memory, like that's fine on its own absolutely -- being the 'copy' was the reason they kept forgetting things, or being the 'original' was the reason bc they were missing parts of themself -or maybe it was someone else's!!!!!!! -mysteries............

-oh i should have thoughts about the king literally being frozen and at that point. getting the memories of his country -you cannot...........always stay in the past...............bc you cannot move forward...........bc we are always moving forward...................

-i don't mind not having an answer about the like, "ghost" sifs though -- that works fine as it is to me -pieces of past loops? pieces of future loops? a piece of the sif that went through the house alone -omg. i got the scene where the rest of the squad talks to the ghost sif bc i fastforwarded to floor 3 all unlocked on one loop but went back to the change god bc i didn't know if i got the keyknife or not -i then realized i could've just checked the inventory. -IT WORKED OUT THOUGH BC I GOT THAT SCENE //AND// FOUND OUT IT WAS MIRA'S STATUE, SO!

-i think there were a few loop conversations i missed? just a couple? -but i got the croissant one, which i was very thrilled to find out the story for -i did not get the dagger though (although i stg i used so many tears.) -and you know what????? i think that is for the best :) maybe next time :))))

-oh the croissant reveal did not disappoint!!!!! just like......... -being confronted with something you hadn't really thought about. and realizing suddenly how much it means -and ascribing so much terror to an innocuous piece of the situation bc it has to go somewhere. that you never want croissants again, you never want the reminder -but still keeping the coin to remind you, you never want to not remember the important thing, the current one, your family, this family, bc they mean so much to you and you've never been happier, you CAN'T REMEMBER being happier so this is what's important -so you'd hurt yourself to remember them!!!!!!! if that was what it took!!!!!!!!!!!! -I'M SCREAMING

-i was thinking, it wasn't necessarily the deeper wish at the favor tree, for sif (-although the second they made the wish at the tree i was like '............is it gonna turn out that the wish he made is what's trapping him. no. ...no. .......yes? yyyyyyyyyyeah.') -but. running from the boulanger while holding the coin, and desperately praying not to forget, not to be forgotten -bc A Coin is a ritual, too, and siffrin knows them subconsciously -but his wish and vaugarde's wish getting tangled together, is interesting too

-also. so i had like 55 loops total bc i also tried to go straight through the house as often as possible to get as much information out of each loop as possible (and i loved sif's 'touch exposure therapy' in the gardening room and always wanted to go back there specifically) (i was also DESPERATELY trying to see if odile would at any point ACTUALLY specifically comment so i was always letting sif be as weird as possible and look at stuff he should not have known) (and i loved the bathroom scenes, too. those were worth going through the whole house.) -oh anyway anyway sometimes i would loop forward though bc sometimes you do, in fact, have to -me: i am trying to loop the least amount of times. i feel so bad for sif and it's only the beginning of the game. sif's not even feeling bad yet about the loops!!!! the game itself: you WILL loop more and you WILL feel worse :) -AND THE GAME WAS ADDING LOOPS -like, i think if you fast forward over all the floors, it adds more loops, bc after i was like '......wait, for real? that many loops?' i checked as it saved one time after i skipped floors or something

-the gang: /talking about wish craft me: THE FAVOR TREE. THE FAVOR TREE IS RIGHT THERE. YOU HAVE ALL BEEN TO THE FAVOR TREE, GUYS!!!!!!! a loop or two later: /the tree book me: HALLELUJAH

-oh speaking of waiting for sif to notice something (but honestly not that long, which was nice) -i think this was........after you beat the king for the first time? me: sif. sif the change god's statue face as changed. sif. SIF THE FACE HAS CHANGED. LOOK AT THE FACE, SIF!!!!!!! SIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -he does in fact not notice. that's okay, sif.

-i love that all of them want to stay together for a little longer, too!!!! like!!!!!!!! no but that's so good -bc, how do you end this kind of journey??? how do you really just go your separate ways right after????? how do you..........stop after you just saved the world -none of them want to let go yet and that's okay and they can say it!!!!!!! -THEY'RE FAMILYYYYYYYYYYYYYY -but sometime they'll have to. and sif will have to be okay with it. but there's still time to grow. there always is!!!! there's time to. change. whatever that change is.

-the change god being real was A SURPRISE!!!!!! holy shit. that was scary. -WITH THE MOST CHILL SPEECH STYLE. THAT WAS HILARIOUS (-me, reading the change god's text: ........i miss you roxy lalonde.......)

-me: i want to do the 'sif helps everyone' tasks again bc they were such sweet and precious and comforting moments and doing them all in one run was the best thing ever (and then sif refers to everyone as their family afterwards which was shattering!!!!!), but doing them again after the first time would just cheapen them, for sif to have to relive such pivotal moments knowing this loop probably isn't the loop it'll stick........like, i could not redo them now, and i could not fast forward through them. i cannot do it. it would feel like a terrible corruption!!!! sif in act 5, going through his millionth nervous breakdown: hold. my. fucking. beer. me: 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫 -AND THAT THAT'S THE LAST FUCKING LOOP -bc it can't be perfect, sif!!! you have to let people help you!!!!! you have to cry!!!!!!!!1 it won't be perfect it will be messy and terrible and people will get hurt but that's not the end of the world!!!!!! -i mean they really went for the gut in those convos, though. oh sif.

-i love that sif finally gets a chance to just sit and cry and gets a whole big squad hug at the same time. -and they're going to keep trying!! keeping growing!!!! keep going!!!!!! learning!!!! and so will all of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-i spent most of the game with memory of bomb attached and then ONLY USED THE BOMB ONCE, I KEPT FORGETTING!!!!! -that was great. goddamn -i found all the bomb components pretty early but actually for the life of me i CANNOT remember where the long thingy-thing was so i never picked it up again. where. where was that........

-the game's universe being so casually lgbtq+ was so fun!!!! i love the bonding earrings and how. you'd make as many earrings as people in the relationship!!!!!!!!!! -giving your children multiple names in case they want a different one they already have more options!!!!!!!!

Do you think BW Ash got unnecessary bashing and hate? I think coming off from DP may made it valid.

hmmmm this one is tough, honestly… because i don’t really care for bw ash all that much. he’s not awful or anything, he’s got a lot of underrated sweet moments tbh, but they made really awkward and bad choices with him this time around. i don’t think ash should be this emotionless badass like other fans do, i think it’s good for him to struggle. but bw ash left a lot to be desired.

i think the decision to constantly kneecap him was really poor. like even as a kid, i smelled bullshit and was confused on a lot of the choices they made going from DP ash to BW ash. i get that it’s supposed to be a soft reboot, but it’s just awkward seeing ash forget how to catch pokemon properly or get stomped on by newbie trainers just to make the plot work. not to mention stuff like the elesa battle, where they’ll make ash look like a complete moron AND jerk to his pokemon and the audience for the sake of a cheap joke that isn’t even funny to begin with. it doesn’t feel good. it feels like the writers look down on ash in this season, and it’s kinda miserable to watch in certain episodes.

but on the other hand. the fandom is so nasty about bw ash that i get defensive just on principle. people loooooooove getting ableist specifically about bw ash. i got an anon one time mocking me for liking bw because “ash is so autistic in that series”. he gets called the r slur constantly. and like… that immediately gets my guard up. like you can criticize the character writing without getting ableist?? also people forget that he’s literally a child?

so yeah. i dont like how bw ash is written, but i distance myself from literally everyone else who says so, lol

Okay okay okay so i see we've started guessing about the halloween fics! Wasn't here last time so i wasn't sure about the vibes. Also i assume they are all buddie?? I've been thinking about this occasionally for a while.

Anyways as someone else said i've also definitely been thinking that the connect the dots one is a ghost hunter au. From the running around one i've been getting superhero vibes, specifically the flash, or any other speedsters, but that could totally be way off.

Now i JUST had the epiphany, based on what you've already answered, that the sapphic in the 2010s one must totally be carmilla(of the web series variety) right????? If not then i'll at least pat myself on the back for it being a great guess actually lol

They are indeed all Buddie! I actually had the idea for all of these since last November because that's just how my horrible gremlin brain works, I guess.

It's so funny because a couple other people have also made guesses based on the runnin' around one and I... have to admit I'm surprised that everyone's been so off? I thought it was a bit obvious of a hint but apparently I was wrong, ha ha.

I will give the hint that all of my Halloween fics are decidedly spooky/supernatural/Halloween themed. I usually do, to put it one way, "monsterfucking," but I have done fics in the past that were more spooky vibes such as my two Hades/Persephone AUs from last year and my Dark Codependent Buddie AU which people have delightfully termed "psychological horror" and "murder husbands." So stay more in that realm with your guesses and you'll be on the right track. ;)

That is SUCH a fun deep cut guess I loooooooove it! But no. I did a vampire fic the last three years in a row, this year there are no vampires. I know, tragic. But there are other ways to drain a person...

Baby's First Bujo - not pretty.

I bought a fancy notebook from Notebook Therapy to try bullet journaling. Often called having/keeping a "bujo". It's common in ~the bujo community~ to keep 1 book per year and make your pretty spreads and layouts in December to be ready for January. An inside spread with "Hello 2023~!" and some pretty graphic design is common.

I recently made the inside cover page/title page whatever for mine and...god, it looks pretty bad. One to two notches above "graphic design is my passion."

Journal and fancy tape and other pens and stuff for a more engaging social media post. I have more tapes but the NT Torii series is the prettiest. There's also a Gojo washi tape in there.

The left page of my inside cover spread has 3 fake "photos" from journalsay of the night sky stacked on top of each other, against the right border. I put a piece of big/tall washi tape on the bottom border that is deep grey with a gold art deco ish print on it. Above that and on the left side of the left page, I put a sticker of a dragon constellation I got from an artist's patreon. There is a lot of white space in between the dragon on the left and the washi tape border at the bottom.

On the right page of my inside cover, I tried to write an aggressive and motivational sentence with the word "ferocious" in it. I ACTUALLY MISSPELLED ferocious. That never happens to me. I could not believe my damn eyes. I covered it up by covering the top half of the page with greenery/leaf washi tapes and putting a big sticker on top of that. It's a black, screaming/roaring dragon head with gold outlines. It doesn't vibe much with the calming greenery behind it.

On the bottom half of the right page I wrote my motivational sentence. I made the F of Ferocious slanted for no reason and it doesn't match the rest of the word. The rest of the sentence looks kind of bad, because despite having dots all over the page, my handwriting is nevertheless plain bad, to the point that people can't politely joke about it and often just don't know what to say and just go silent when they see it.

So. My very first "spread" just sucks. I left my desk to go sit in my bedroom chair and feel sad about it for 10 minutes then came back.

Then I prepared a few more pages, including two pages I can write small things I dislike or that irritate me, two pages I can write small good things I encounter or think about, and two pages I can write down books (or fics also?) that I finish. I also want to keep a tracker for my weight, my exercise routines, expenses and savings for certain items and...more things. I'll make the January-specific items soon.

I do feel confident I will actually use this thing. I like it. I like having plans and solid things to reference, and most importantly, just having the written word to track what I do. Before, I just had fanfics for that. I often think of phases of my life through what fanfics I was reading/writing at the time. Now I can add bujo spreads to that mentality.

The orca one is also from Notebook Therapy, it has black pages!! There, I use a white pen to write daily or close to daily thoughts of my fics (very tiny bits of what I plan to add or write in my next writing session). And the rose one is from Target, I've had it for over a year now, I loooooooove it! It's where I write more detailed, serious plans and outlines for my fics. Minimal stickers and "designs" in it, just writing. It also has my Zine Tracker inside where I write down the date I followed the zine account, the date I preordered it and the day it arrived.

I'm not putting pictures of any of my actual "spreads" or writing because again, visually they suck and are ugly, but I do use these books and I like them a lot. Just looking at them makes me giddy and proud.

Dude! I was gonna bring up the Lizzie Bemnet Diaries! I looooooooved that shit. So good. I actually started to rewatch it a couple of years ago but have yet to finish it. I might rewartch it again....but I loved how they made Bingley and Caroline Asian. I thought it was a great way to bring another dimension to the characters while still keeping the core of who they are intact. I do think it also highlights like...a lot of the backwards thinking and slut-shaming of how men and women interact and I read a post a while ago about how that's a huge part of P&P that people overlooked. Lydia's story and what people thought and how they project their insecurities of their reputation ontoher play a huge role and I think people don't realize that everyone is judging her quite harshly, even Elizabeth. I definitely missed that when I saw the movie (though I'm sure it was just more subtle, given the times and the writing) but the web series was good about keeping that at the forefront.

YES it was such a cool way to adapt the story and they did it so well. I feel like it would be pretty hard to figure out ways to make it all fit into a vlog style but they did it!

And yeah the way they did Lydia's arc in LBD was so good it was heartwrenching. They kept it true to form in the way Lizzie was still kind of disapproving of Lydia's frivolity or whatever but I like the route they took of not actually demonising her for it in the end. Lydia in 2005 P&P I feel is written to be so annoying that we forget that Wickham was like also there and led her on to run away and get married for his own benefit.

omg, I remember the guy who played Bingley in LBD being so endearing, as Bingley should be in every adaptation ever. I really should rewatch it.

This IS a bit tricky because I spent most of 2020 just lurking on AO3, no acccount, no commenting, no kudos. so there are just so so so many fics that I remember pieces of, and have little headcanons that LIVE with me but I have no idea who the author is or what the fic is called.  

so.. that being said, the top 10 is ever changing and could never be fully complete. I just love every author and every fic, you are all so wildly talented.

This fic has everything!! a sexy ex-lover rival gang leader, relaxed rio, angry rio, angsty kitchen sex rio. LOFT rio. AND it’s my favourite post-S2 reckoning of all time. There are moments in this fic that I just want to SPAM the gg writing room with. like scrap ur plans. DO. THIS.  Overall, this is such a creative and well-written series.  The characterization is superb, the smut has.... so many feelings, and the angst is AMAZING. There are a couple chapters (I wont give spoilers) that involves Beth in a hotel in Canada that I legit could not stop reading. it’s just all... so damn GOOD. favourite line: You thought I could be something, right? Well, this is that something. The bitch you trained bit back.

Whew! this fic has EVERYTHING. safe house brio. KARMA. brio ignoring each other. snippy, cranky brio. baking shows. mick overhearing loud shower sex. zero communication. brio getting high and giggling! all the feelings. I looooove this fic. like I LOVE it.  it's so creative and it feels so real!! I can play it like a movie in my head. There is so much fun smutty build up, so much tension, anxiety and a very, very, good Thaw Of Feelings which is my fav. I will forever have a soft spot for safe house fics, but this one hilariously twists the trope by doubling down on their idiot stubbornness. genius. favourite line:  He's using her and she's using him. Maybe it's the only thing they're truly equal at.

This fic has everything!!!!!!! (but TW that everything is not for everyone, as the plot primarily revoles around a rape scene.) This fic sets up some of the most soft, emotional, protective brio moments. I also adore how this author handles the delicate subject matter. I work from time to time as a crisis advcate for women and ...... this fic is so accurate and well written. All the emotions beth feels, the way rio reacts to her. everything. I have read this SO many times. It also inludes a Mick POV that will TUG at your HEART.  favourite line: *When on route to Rio’s loft* Rio nods, with that gentle look he has. "Alright, mama. Let's get you home." There's a beat, they both catch it, but neither of them make the correction.

❤  working on things - odenkirk (not on tumblr?)

THIS fic, now this fic has everything!!!!!!!!! masturbation! sexting! weed-smokin horny rio! DEAN?!??! in a way that didnt repulse me???? SEX. kinda threesome??? a heck of a lot of things that I didnt think id be into but then read it and was like HUH, guess i AM. and last but not least, deliciously perfect characterization. This is a fic I ask you to take a risk on. It will pay off. Its fun and oooh soooooooo sexy. Yes, dean goes to pound town too, but I promise- odenkirk makes it WORK.  Blush meter: off the charts. I had to put my phone down and reckon with Jesus.  favourite line:   Rio: Don't get precious, sweetheart. It's you cuz it's you.  AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS AUTHOR has EVERYTHING! FakePlastikTrees is one of those authors where... I read one fic - then buckled my seatbelt and clicked on her account so I could systematically read through every. single. fic. They are often short scenes that feel so true. Her Rio characterization makes me green with (benevolent) envy. and her smut?? oof. top notch.  This fic in particular lives in my heart because it really truly feels like a missing GG scene between Beth and our favourite tattooed babysitter. The atmosphere is tangible and the author slows time down for these two, it stretches out like you are smokin in the suburbs with them. I love a MickFic and this one is top tier. 

favourite line: “Oh come on. He’s a little unhinged.” “Takes one to know one.”

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh this fic has EVERYTHING. scrabble competitiveness! annie speaking truths! christmas beth! christmas rio?!?! delicious bickering! CABIN isolation!  gift giving perfection! I could go on and on and on.  This fic just pulls you straight in. stcs crafts the timeline so effortlessly, and weaves it with so many endearing and authentic feeling details (beth has her own ‘guys’ now, and we know this bc she gives them sweets and food. OF COURSE) The longing between her and rio is so RICH. if you want your heart to swell a million sizes - this is the fic for you.  favourite line:  They hadn’t – been intimate yet, back when she got him arrested, or the first few times he’d shoved a gun in her face. And the sexual part had been all done and dusted prior to their, god, kidnapping and shooting fiasco. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t present throughout – a hovering spectre, forming a treacherous spine through all their endeavours.

now this fic. actually for real, has everything. because its every POV you never knew you NEEDED.  and mego42 absolutely nails each and every one. especially Dean. Its a complicated look into his blubbering sexist mind, and misguided fixations that is really well-written. The way in which brio has their own arc throughout the chapters, but told through the eyes of those around them - is amazing. this fic just makes you love every character even MORE.  favourite line: well.. annie, mick and ruby have a group chat and thats all you need to know. anytime that comes up = favourite line.

be still my bisexual heart. this fic has everyONE! Yes, this fic dissolves into perfect threesome smut BUT before you get there, you get this awesome set up of a dangerous-feeling connection between Rhea and Beth. They are honest, open and fully acknowledging the fuckedupness of their desire. For how small a part Rhea has in the show - this author NAILS her voice, it’s uncanny. Both of them talking about rio? sign me up. Rio coming home to it? sign me UP.  favourite line: “Jesus,” she hears behind her. “What am I looking at right now?” Rhea smiles down on her, ignoring him, running her fingers through Beth’s hair.

I want to include this not only because I loooOoOOOved it, but also because this author just has a talent for creating holiday themed brio fics that are not in the slightest cheesy, or forced. which is... hard! to! do! I read her halloween series while in quarantine, and it became apart of my little daily routine. each fic containing at least one moment that made me go AHHH these two!!!!!  so in short - thanks for infusing all my holidays with stellar brio. then christmas comes around and she nails it again! beth and rio begrudgingly working late?   YES. they migh each have a date but they dont DARE talk abut their jealously? YES. Bourbon as a third character? haha YES! Beth looking smokin hot? YES.  favourite line: “Is that your move? Meet me under the mistletoe?”  “Oh baby, you know my moves.”

Alright so unlike the KH liveblog I’m actually gonna be saying a lot of nice stuff in the Zelda liveblog bc I adore this series so much and its nowhere near as Cursed as KH can often be because the people who make it aren’t Fucking Insane so here’s my first nice thing

I loooooooove this title screen. Its so peaceful and majestic all at once Its like Nintendo knew they were making what would become one of the most beloved games of all time and said “let’s pop off on the title screen first that’ll show those fucking weebs” and it worked

Have you seen Merlin? They’re also quite known for beautiful but not really accurate costumes, especially with the women

Fun? Yes! Accurate? Hell no!

BUT we, once more, cannot talk about accuracy when it is a work of fantasy. So, the level of accuracy we can expect from a series like Merlin is that they keep their visual references and inspiration to a single part of the Middle Ages. We cannot ask for much more, honestly. I mean, they could decide to set it in a particular century and then, make their fantasy world have a touch of reality by sticking to the fashion of that time (let’s say, like The Pillars of the Earth), but they didn’t.

Now, is this costume design good? Well, it is not that bad at all, since it accomplishes its function: it sets the characters in time and space (vaguely, but it does), it shows the aesthetics of this particular world, and it gives you information and sets a personality for each character. Also, it has a clear colour palette, makes the show look a certain way (I mean, there’s no way you see a still from this show an think it is from something else), and I think it accomplished what Reign does not: it caters to a young audience establishing parallels between the modern attitudes and fashion and the medieval-inspired ones in the show. (But also, there are corsets. Why? I don’t know. This show has its high and lows.)

Is Merlin wearing a tee and leather jacket? No, he’s not, but the proportions make him look pretty modern even though he’s not actually wearing modern clothes. This is a “trick” often used is all kinds of design: to make something popular, you have to balance what is familiar and what is strange. Other media that is much more historically accurate can decide to not make something so “popular”, but they already have the advantage that before them, people watched other shows, and that trains the eye to make a more accurate silhouette (that might seem strange to a modern viewer) more appealing and acceptable.

All that to say that thanks to shows that made the Middle Ages in England look like this for a wide audience back in 2008:

And, of course, I’m talking about more or less popular shows, not films or smaller shows that can go for a little more niche audience (like let’s say, The Hollow Crown). Usually those have a greater liberty to be as accurate as they can. BUT (there’s always a but!) people get it, and people LIKE good productions, and that’s making popular TV becoming more careful with their costume and style choices. That’s how we get Turn and Harlots and Outlander, even though they’re not perfect, man, they make a really good job in what they decide to keep as accurate, and makes them have more freedom in what they choose to not be accurate and do it in a more playful way.

In the examples above, we see that Jack and Aliena in The Pillars of the Earth have costumes that are less accurate, probably because we’re supposed to be more attached to them, and making them look weird would not work for the viewer. On the other side, Maud is perfectly dressed, I mean even her hair is super accurate, and look at the fit and length of her dress, these make her look slightly odd to a modern audience, but not too much, because not every one was dressed with this level of accuracy. Finally, we have the England storyline from Vikings, and we can see that people are really used to or open to these weird proportions in clothing and hair: from the colours to the textures and shapes, and of course the CLASSIC and perfect tonsure hairstyle that we see Athelstan wear (a little detail that we’d NEVER would have seen a main character wear back in the BBC Merlin times). Even though Vikings has several parts of fantasy, they decided to have a strong grip in historical reality (even though I would not really call it “historical”).

This became a LONG(TM) post. Sorry. I’m just passionate about the Middle Ages, and good costume design XD

according to the ~end of the year~ Billboard chart, it was “Walk Like an Egyptian,” but google also shows me a lot of random Whitney Houston songs...and “(I’ve Had) The Time of my Life” from Dirty Dancing, which is probably a dead giveaway to how old I am lmao

I’m not sure if this question actually means ~rave~ because I don’t really have any complaints about my favorites....but they’re Amy Lee and Lindsey Stirling, and I adore them both! they’re both so talented and use their platforms for good. Lindsey’s an advocate for mental health and Amy’s been encouraging people to vote. I believe she also has a foundation that donates to epilepsy research, since she had a younger sister that died from it many years ago

and when they collabed and went on tour together???? SO AWESOME AHHHHH~ I saw their Tampa show like two years ago and it was AMAZING!!!!! they both have such commanding presences on stage, but when they’re together, neither one of them overpower the other. definitely the best non-Distant Worlds concert I’ve ever been to and I would absolutely see them if they ever toured together again (in a safer world, of course)

they both also have awesome music videos, but I think I like Lindsey’s a little more. I think she might actually still edit them herself, which is amazing. and I really like the Artemis series she’s been doing, although I would LOOOOOOOOVE if she did a video for Masquerade. I can see it in my head so easily and it needs to happen....plus it could be an excellent excuse to promote wearing masks lmao

19. what’s your favorite teacher you’ve ever had?

I took a Ceramics class every year in high school, despite the fact I liked drawing much better, and it was 100% because of the teacher. she was hilarious and was always there to help us out, but she was also cool with us just chillin and figuring projects out on our own. I still have some of the ones I made around my room

I was admittedly a bit of a teacher’s pet when it came to her, although thinking back, I’m not really sure why since I actually wasn’t very good 8D;; I think we just got along really well. I ended up getting a special award in that class before graduation and I still have the plaque hahaha

I think she still works at the high school and I think all the time about visiting her (she saw me when I worked at my old retail job and instantly remembered me), but of course now that would be irresponsible, not to mention that they rebuilt the high school and now it’s basically a fortress

OooOOOoooh! It’s the day of Loooooooove!~

My favorite ship is Mimi/Meiko! They are so damn cute together. Determination is my favorite movie of the tri. series. It’s so comical and wholesome. Before all goes to hell.

The other ships I love Daisuke and Ken. That was my go to ship when Adventure 02 was first airing. I mean the way Ken would react to Daisuke later in the series just screamed “Lovers!!!” to me. I still love them together. THe fact Daisuke and Ken travel across the world to taste ramen is A+.

Miyako and Ken of course is my fav ship too. The Kyoto episode was so cute. It was like Ken was passing off a child to Miyako. Yaaaassss.

*COUGH*Meiko/Haruko is gooood ship. *COUGH* The way Meiko squeals and freaks out when Haruko suddenly hugs her is so cute! *COUGH* Meiko always trying to tell Haruko who cried hysterically at Meiko leaving to go back to Tottori was really heart warming. *COUGH**CACKLES*

Taichi/Sora/Yamato trio. TaiMei. KouMi. Jou/Bike girl, Hikari/Takeru, Daisuke/Miyako.  Are my more casual ships. THey are they tightest friends and are great together.
