Batman and Robin (2009) #20, by Peter J. Tomasi
Technically, Jason’s not there either, but that’s at least understandable considering he’d recently tried to kill them several times with no sign of stopping.
For Cass, on the other hand, there was no good reason not to count her.

I always liked the relationship that developed between Damian and Maya during the #robinsonofbatman story arc, and I would like to see that brotherly relationship between them again. #Mayaducard is truly the sister that #DamianWayne needs

As a Batman writer, Peter Tomasi has given us so much when it comes to Harvey Dent and his relationship with Bruce, but there’s one very weird bit that I’ve never been able to talk about without spoiling a major (and completely bonkers) twist.
In Tomasi’s “Mythology” storyline, the final plot twist reveals that Bruce spends every birthday in a sensory deprivation tank with a VR hookup, brainwashing himself into living out a nightmare scenario where he’s pushed past his physical and psychological limits. It’s kinda like the Batgirl “death” episode of TNBA, only Bruce purposely does it to himself to make himself a better Batman.
So, yeah: totally normal, perfectly-hinged Bruce behavior.
In this particular VR brainwashing birthday scenario, he makes himself believe that Leslie Thompkins has been murdered and Alfred (who has not yet been really killed in Tom King’s run) is wounded and on the brink of death. Looking for answers, Bruce does what any World’s Greatest Detective would do: beat the shit out of random Arkham inmates for info.

“… is ME.” >:(
We then skip ahead past Bruce’s bloody interrogations, a choice that’s barely treated as Batman having crossed a moral line. In effect, just him being a cop-on-the-edge trope. Not one of his better moments, even if we already know this is just a computer program scenario that Bruce himself programmed.
We don’t see the actual beatings, just the aftermath. It wouldn’t even be notable to me if it weren’t for the brief moment at the end:

Bruce. Why. Why did you program a VR scenario where you beat up your tormented murderer best friend and have Harvey take your fists with a smile and a happy wave while you promise/threaten to return to beat him up some more? What does this say about you? What the hell do you even think your relationship with Harvey is at this point???

The 5 Best Krypto the Superdog Stories
The 5 Best Krypto the Superdog Stories #comics #superman
This article is dedicated to my good boy, Riley “Krypto” Dalton, 2009-2023. The first trailer for James Gunn‘s Superman swept the Internet with its comics accurate tone (Including a bowl-cut sporting Guy Gardner), focus on the Daily Planet, and general hopeful vibes with an electric guitar cover of John Williams’ iconic Superman theme shredding through it all. However, arguably, the most…

Wait, hold on Mr. Tomasi, what the hell is this:
Like--
W-wait--
Peter J. Tomasi, writer of the Super Sons (one of which has recently had a disastrous and narratively disappointing time-OSHA related incident), currently releasing what may be your last book for DC for the foreseeable future, what are you suggesting here sir, in your totally legally distinct "Sinister Sons" book?

Over at a non-tumblr comics community, I posted one of my favorite Guy Gardner moments, that scene where he reunited with Ice after she was resurrected.

I wanted to post it because I’m sick of fans and writers like Tom King thinking that Guy has never had any character development since 1990, and that he’s actually a far more complicated and likable character than he’s usually credited.
What was really interesting was the reactions, where there were a few people being dismissive of this scene. One person cited King’s Human Target as proof that “Guy is toxic,” while another said that “Guy Gardner is trash, it’s literally his only character trait lol. This is, like, a weird form of character assassination.”
What bugs me about these isn’t just the fact that these people haven’t read enough comics or know anything about Guy as a character. It’s how, when they’re shown a scene of him from actual CANON by one of the best writers to ever handle him (Peter Tomasi), their first reaction is to reject it rather than think “oh hey maybe there’s more to this character than I thought.”
I don’t know how much of this speaks to how loathsome Guy could be at his (brain-damaged, traumatized) worst: that he’s now defined by who he was for just a few years. That popular misconception of Guy has apparently engendered that much disdain from casual fans that they cannot accept that there might be more to him and his reasons for his past behavior. It’s like they actively want him to only be an asshole they can hate, and refuse to accept that there’s decades of canon showing that he 1.) was originally a good person, 2.) was a victim of traumatic brain injury combined with Hal Jordan being an asshole, 3.) has had THREE DECADES of character growth since then.
I guess all the canon and character development in the world doesn’t matter if people don’t or won’t read the actual comics. Some characters are doomed to be defined by their worst selves.

Morrison: Damian didn’t know Talia until he was eight years old
Tomasi: Actually, he knew her from the beginning; he spent each birthday fighting her for the chance to—
Morrison: That’s nice anyway she put a bounty on his head and replaced him as her son with a rapidly aged baby clone because she’d rather he be dead than out of her control
