Wait, wait, someone actually made a game based on THAT?!
(Sees its for the CD-i)
Logical.
For those curious, back in the 90s, while he was wrestling in WCW, Hulk Hogan also starred in a series called "Thunder in Paradise". Initially a direct to DVD movie from the creators of Baywatch, it became a 1 season series starring Hogan and Chris Lemmon.
Certain WCW and pro wrestling stars also appeared in the series, most notably Sting, Jimmy Hart and Jim Neidhart.
...it's cheesy yes but I rather watch this than "Velma." And that should tell you just how much I do not want to see "Velma".

The Apple Pippin? Yeah, it runs Doom.
The Pippin was one of those many failures of '90s Apple before the iMac-led revival - a game console manufactured by Bandai running MacOS classic off of the game CD, with the aim of being a multimedia box like the wildly successful Phillips CD-i. It failed to reach those lofty heights and was snuffed with a terrifying immediacy with the return of Jobs and the end of the "Mac clones" program in 1997, just a year after launch.
This project hooks up a "fake mac-formatted" hard drive that the Pippin was able to recognize, allowing for the Mac port of Doom to be run.
Incidentally, the Mac port of Doom's source code leaked out the other day. Interesting stuff!
Thanks to DeathEgg for hipping me to this!

"HARBOR LIGHTS": The first song ever taped by Elvis Presley (officially)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PICTURES: [1-2] Elvis Presley, December 27, 1954. Photo by Lou Lowery.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elvis had paid for two private sessions at the Sun Studio, when he would cut two acetates with the songs "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartache Begins" — the actual date is not certain but it happened sometime in 1953 — and again Presley would go back to Sun Studio on January 4, 1954, to record "I’ll Never Stand In Your Way" and "It Wouldn’t Be The Same Without You," all ballads.
"In fact, he sang very little but ballads, and to the untrained ear, we now know, he sounded like plenty of other local C&W singers. To Marion [Keisker], though, there was something there — a stronger yearning? A deeper passion? A greater determination? Whatever it was, she wanted to keep an eye on it; after the kid had made his acetate she made herself a note: “Good ballad singer. Hold." — Ernst Jorgensen on "Elvis Presley: A Life In Music"
A while after the private recordings, on June 26, 1954, Elvis was officially invited to a recording session at Sun Studio. A phone call was made by Marion Keisker (Sun Studio's secretary), and soon after that Elvis walked back in the studio and he started the official recordings singing in the same familiar way, not venturing in something out of extraordinary. Nothing came out that was really interesting to tape, but still certain there might be something good ahead, a while after that Elvis came back to Sun Studio once more and that's when the ballad called "Harbor Lights" was covered by him.
The song was originally recorded by Roy Fox & his Orchestra with vocal by Barry Gray, in London, on January 29, 1937. You can listen to the original record of the tune below.
youtube
Elvis recorded "Harbor Lights" on July 5, 1954, during his first commercial recording session.
According to Ernst Jorgensen, it may have been the first song Elvis recorded. The first song put on tape. The order for the official recordings during that session at Sun Studio would have been, "Harbor Lights" and "I Love You Because", nothing that really caused a big impression on Sam Phillips, but then during a pause from the recordings, Elvis, Scotty Moore and Bill Black were just joking around, having fun playing Arthur's Cudrup tune their own way, without even realizing they were doing something that finally got Sam Phillips really excited about. That's when "That's All Right" came to be and then, during the same session, there was "Blue Moon of Kentucky", both songs, as soon as released, instant hits by this new Memphis guy with a funny/weird/unique name.
Opposite to the hits "That's All Right", "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and even the ballad "I Love You Because", Sam Phillips considered the recording of "Harbor Lights" unworthy of release, according to Jorgensen once more, because "they couldn’t get the Hawaiian-inspired pop song right" (Look at Hawaii being there for Elvis since the very beginning of his career... in a certain way. Interesting). In 1976, tho, RCA released the master of "Harbor Lights" on the LP "Elvis – A Legendary Performer, Volume 2", for the first time.
I don't know about you but this is surely one of my all-time-favorites Elvis song. ♥ Thank God it came to the light of day.
MASTER (TAKE 3):

Music by Hugh Williams (the pseudonym of Austrian composer Will Grosz) and lyrics by Northern Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy. Elvis recorded the songs during studio sessions for Sun Records between July 5–6, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee.

"The Record Store"
These types of stores are always a neat place to visit if you happen to have any interest in music. While they're probably not as easy to find nowadays since many prefer the digital route when it comes to getting music, they're definitely worth seeking out to take a look. You can find all sorts of records here. A rare cassette bootleg from an indie band, a out of print album that's only available on vinyl,  a famous album that managed to find its way in the bargain bin, or tons upon tons of one dollar soundtrack CDs that are usually ignored. But on top of finding different kinds of records in these stores, you can find all kinds of people too. Music lovers, casual browsers, music collectors, audiophiles, and sometimes musicians. And when you bring all these types together, you get all kinds of conversations too!
Record Collector: "I'm telling you, a Japanese import of this Cars album can go up ten times as much as this used one. The sound quality is amazing compared to this!" Casual Browser: "So I'd be dropping an extra grand just to hear less cracks and pops?" Max Goof: "...oh sure, and Powerline's my older brother!" Grunkle Stan: " No really, I know these guys. Let me tell you how I once got in a slugfest with Henry Rollins at Lollapalooza!" Phillip J Fry: Weird, I thought these things died out before I went to the future. ( looks around)  I am still in the future aren't I?" Wakko Warner: "Hey, Rumplestiltkin! Can I look at that when your done?" Groundskeeper Willie: "Ay. Sure thing, laddie. Just don't call me that again." Seller: "You sure you can't take em? Only half of these skip!" Record Store Guy: "Sir, we only take non warped records here. Begone, record warper!"
This is one of the places I always try to go to whenever I get the chance. One thing I love aside from drawing is collecting and listening to music. And most of my musical tastes were forged from the various finds that caught my attention within these stores. I don't visit these places that often nowadays, one because I rarely have the time, two it gets really expensive. You'd be surprised how much money you can end up burning through just from going through the bargain bin selections week after week.
So I wanted to do a new crossover fanart piece that's loosely based on my experiences in visiting these stores. While I tend to go for a retro look in my artwork already, I decided to do something different by using a standard comic book color sheet. One that contains only 64 colors.  While I did end up doing a lot of extra color mixing further down line, I mainly kept with colors in the pallete, one so I would have less difficulty in choosing colors, but also so it would have more of an old school look.
Here's a link below to the various comic book color palletes if anyone is interest in trying that out. http://www.madformidcentury.com/2013/10/mid-century-color-palette-in-comics.html#.ZCujJXbMKM8
See how many characters you can spot here! And for a harder challenge, see how many album covers are here as well!
