notes: okay i am SO sorry that i left you waiting this long! i haven’t been active on this account for months, i’m so sorry! also i first wrote this as richard x charlie’s sister!reader and had to edit it when i realised it wasn’t what you were after so i apologise if it’s a bit messy!

warnings: overprotective charlie, annoying charlie

- your parents were friends with charlie’s parents at school, so it was no surprise that when they found out they were both having children months apart, they were going to make sure they were friends

- you had always been close, so it’s no surprise that you were friendly with his friends too - even if you didn’t see them as much as you saw him

- you were closest to neil - they were best friends, after all (and he’s the friendliest)

- you first saw richard at a christmas ball that involved both welton and henley hall

- you saw charlie causing trouble and annoying everyone with his group; all but one of them

- immediately, you were infatuated by this boy, and went over to talk to him

- he was very shy (but it was obvious to everyone that he thought you were beautiful)

- when you left, charlie nearly slapped him

- “my friends are off limits, you creep!”

- due to charlie’s overprotectiveness (and his dislike for richard), you had to keep your relationship a secret for a while

- there was a lot of sneaking around

- richard, being a perfect gentleman, didn’t like this at first. he wanted to treat you right

- but then he remembered the anger in charlie’s eyes during the ball and knew that you couldn’t go public

- it all went perfectly for a few months, until charlie walked in on richard reading a suspicious letter

- the handwriting and perfume that was sprayed on the letter were all too familiar

- when he snatched the letter from richard’s hand and read it, he was totally enraged

- pitts and knox had to hold him back

- he was very very angry at you for not telling him - he felt betrayed

- but he quickly forgave you once you filled him in on all the details he’d missed

- it took him a while to forgive richard, but once he saw how well he treated you, he knew you were in safe hands

- charlie’s parents were practically yours too, so once you told your parents, you had to tell his too

- all four of them were thrilled!

- they loved richard as charlie’s friend already - this was perfect for them!

- mortifying for richard - his first time meeting your parents was also his first time properly meeting charlie’s parents

- of course, was very nervous to meet them

- they’d invited him over for a family dinner, but he got along with them spectacularly

- the only thing he had to worry about was charlie being annoying and teasing the two of you

- you nearly threw a fork at him when he started making kissing noises

- although it took him a while to come round, charlie knows that richard loves you and that you’re happy with him

Hey everyone! So I finally wrote a thing!! I’m pretty sure is absolute garbage but 🥰 I’m here! Attempting to replenish the lack of DPS fan fiction!! So here it is (also I forgot how to add a Keep Reading bar on mobile help)

Summary: you’re new at Welton and your cousin Charlie’s friends take you in! Neil Perry x female reader x Platonic! Charlie Dalton

“She’s off limits, thanks.” A blunt voice sounds from behind me. It’s my cousin Charlie only naturally. I’ve just transferred to Welton Academy, now that they’ve begun accepting girls. The only downside of this is that my over protective older cousin Charlie won’t give it a rest. Of course there were ups and downs to the whole thing. Charlie had introduced me to his friends initially so I knew someone in most classes, but they were mostly boys, who flirt a lot, or act like they’ve never seen a woman before.

“I’ll decide if I’m limited!” I angrily turned to whisper yell at him, after giving a polite smile to Pitts who I was just speaking to. This obscure comment makes Charlie roll his eyes.

“Are you coming to the meeting tonight?” He asks casually as we all stand on the campus outside.

“Uh yeah If I still can.” I respond hoping the so-called “Dead Poets Society” meeting was still open to me. “Yeah you can!” Neil cuts in from looking at his book. He stands up from the brick wall he was leaning on.

For some reason this assurance makes me grin. I suppose if Neil says I can… I then turn back to Charlie. “I’ll come get you at.. let’s say 9?” He says in a hushed tone and walks away pointing to his watch.

I will admit. I’m appreciative to have a somewhat big brother on campus. Charlie and I spent most of our childhood when he wasn’t here, together anyway, so we really are family, cousins, and friends.

At 9 I’m waiting in my dorm. I’m in some comfortable slacks and a large coat when I hear a tap on my window. I open it expecting the boyish grin from my cousins. I open the drapes revealing a Neil Perry. I open the window curiously. “Hey- it’s you?” I ask. “Yeah! Charlie’s down there but Cameron forgot something so they went back they’ll meet us- hi..” he says with his typical smile and laid back demeanor whining with excitement. His brown hair is a mess from the hostile weather outside.

Later I sit in the cave. A mere observer for now since I wouldn’t have anything to share my first time here. I smile and shake my head as Charlie continues this Nawanda act. Neil who stands in the middle of us all looks toward me with a smile “I forgot to ask- Y/N would you like to share anything?” He asks with a warm inviting expression. Like he truly would love for me to get up there. I smile appreciatively and shake my head. “Not this time Neil thank you..!”

After the meeting we sneak back. To ensure I got back safely Charlie offers to be the one to sneak to the girls dorms with me.

“I’ll come too..?” Neil suggests softly. Charlie nods and quietly ushers us in.

“Goodnight guys!” I wave a bit as I quietly try to enter into my dorm which is extremely difficult with decades old door hinges.

As Charlie and Neil walk back, they enter a quiet hallway where Charlie mumbles grinning to Neil. “So you like her..?”

“What?” Neil asks with fake confusion. He figured he could pull it off because he’s never been much of a lady chaser.

“What?” Charlie mocks. “You like her! Y/N!”

Neil blushes knowing only Charlie knows him like that. They stop in the hallway by their dorm rooms.

“She’s a very lovely girl-“ Neil starts, attempting to be indirect. Charlie just chuckles and says. “Alright I know… it’s fine” he waves off “although…you should ask her about theater or whatever.. she’s into that..” Charlie says playfully but also with thought. It’s a bit funny Neil is the only person Charlie would even consider trusting in such a situation. They both say good nights and enter their dorms on opposite sides.

like personally if I was Charlie I would’ve actually just given up like my best friend, brother, platonic soulmate of 12 years kills himself when he probably felt he could’ve done more to help or some shit? Then the school asks him to lie about what happened to Neil? And then he gets expelled because he indirectly would’ve rather gotten kicked out than ever lie? Then probably to the standards of back then bc of his record would’ve probably not gotten into any school so I threw away everything for my best friend which is so justified I think we would’ve all done the same but I would’ve given up I actually feel so bad. Like he had to tell the other dead poets about his brother in all but blood dying. who told him. why did an ADULT expect a CHILD to handle that situation. what the hell

Nail (and friend) biter- probably a bad habit he always had since he was a little kid.

This man cannot sit still for the life of him.

Cracks his knuckles after writing for a while because his hands cramp up if he doesn’t.

This always freaks out the rest of the dead poets.

With being a passionate friend, as we’ve experienced, there is no doubt in my mind that he’s just as passionate - maybe even more - with a lover by his side.

This man is the king of spoiling anybody. He adores and making sure they’re alright, especially if they return the same favour to him.

INSTIGATOR. I cannot say this enough, he’s one of the poets in the group to initiate total chaos.

His love language (both romantic and platonic) is no doubt quality time. He doesn’t know what he’d do without the people he confided in the most close to him.

Is always up to help others, but still trying to get used to looking to others for help rather than just himself.

He would probably go to Neal the most considering how close they actually are in the movie.

Always has his friends’ best interests at heart and always knows what they like the most for whenever he has to get them gifts or spend time with them individually.

Also the type of friend to instantly know when something’s wrong or out of the ordinary.

Somebody skips a meal? Somebody doesn’t seem as bright as they usually are? If they’re unnecessarily tired? Charlie is instantly wondering what’s wrong.

He probably doesn’t understand much about mental stuff, but nothing stops him from trying to learn for the sake of others. He believes that no matter what somebody experiences, they should always be able to experience comfort for it.

He does seem sarcastic and kinda jerky from the first time you meet him, but his remarks always grow on others and he can genuinely be a sweetheart when times call for it.

Dreams of still staying in contact will all of his friends, simply because thinking of a life without them makes him feel lost.

One of the biggest supporters you could find. Remember how excited he got seeing Neal on the stage?

The type of friend to lean over and doodle on another buddy’s notes in the top corner of their page.

If one of his friends are sick, he’s always the first one to bring them soup and extra blankets.
