Remember the 6 year old girl who was surrounded by Israeli tanks and the red crescent couldn't reach her? Her name is Hind Hamadeh. Here you can hear the phone call her 15 year old sister, Layan Hamadeh, made with the medics. She was killed exactly a moment later including all people in the car, except for 6 year old Hind who was stuck in the car with the dead bodies of her family, Israeli tanks and IDF surrounding her, shooting, preventing anybody to reach her.

That was last night (29.1.24). Today, still nothing. The fate of Hind remains unknown.

palestine red crescent ambulance team went to rescue her yesterday evening, but they have not returned as of now. We lost contact with them about 18 hours ago, and we still remain unaware of their fate and whether they succeeded in evacuating her or not.

I've had this in my drafts for months, and I just saw a post complaining about fan artists (while having the nerve to start out with, "I love fan artists so much but...") who draw characters this way or don't draw them that way, so I figured it was about time to share this.

You know that unwritten rule in fandom that says you shouldn't demand that fic writers cater to your tastes? "Don't like, don't read"? Here's a reminder that the same goes for fanart.

Sometimes, I see complaints that fan artists don't draw character A exactly how they look in canon/in a particular slice of canon/according to someone's specific headcanons. Sometimes, I see complaints that character A is being depicted, say, without enough body hair, or with the wrong body type, or as a different age than they appear in canon.

If you find yourself getting upset with fan artists over things like this, I hope you'll take a moment to:

mind your own business

consider how fucking hard art is

I think a lot of people who haven't spent time in the art trenches have absolutely no clue how difficult it can be to draw a human, period—let alone human features you haven't already practiced a million times.

This can be especially true for artists who don't have a lot of drawing experience. When I was a kid, I mostly drew women, so learning to draw more typically masculine features was a challenge, and it took me many years to even get okay at it. It takes a lot of practice to figure out how to draw a variety of facial structures, body types, hair styles, ages, etc.

For a example, I have never known an artist who doesn't think drawing children is a bitch and a half, and wrinkle placement can mean the difference between drawing something that looks like an elderly human versus a shriveled apple.

Simply drawing body hair can be very time consuming. You also have to understand hair growth patterns and direction and take into account if the person's body hair is very curly or more straight, etc. If I just want to do a really quick sketch, maybe I don't feel like spending 10-20 minutes adding body hair. Maybe some people don't like body hair so they don't want to draw it. Maybe some people have carpal tunnel syndrome or medial epicondylitis and the extremely repetitive motion of adding body hair to characters is physically painful. You don't know. And it's not your place to tell them they're wrong.

Fanart, just like fanfiction, is about drawing the things we like—NOT catering to what other people want or think we should be making.

So feel free to talk about how much you love it when fan artists draw characters in ways you like! But don't be a jerk by demanding people draw what you want, and don't put down those who don't cater to you. You can have all the personal preferences you want in fanart, but it's rude and entitled to force those preferences on others fans or act like you're a better person because of your tastes in the appearances of fictional characters.

just kinda a thing i wanted to say since ik i have younger artists following me (its applicable to everyone really, but very important to form care habits as early as possible) i read about others artists experiencing pain from overworking and i always thought to myself, i wouldnt let that happen to me, im real young, i still have time before i have to worry about really damaging my body

but your body really doesnt care, if you push yourself, if you ignore the pain, its going to fuck you up. maybe for the rest of your life please god take care of yourself when you draw, write, game, literally anything. stretch your wrists, fingers, dont keep your elbow in a locked a position for too long, especially dont lean on your elbows. get up around every 45 minutes, drink water, eat food, use the bathroom, stretch your whole body and your hands again. walk outside and let your eyes readjust your body is trying to communicate with you for a reason when you start hurting, please listen to it, be kind to yourself, you deserve it

I'm not here to stir up shit. I've got no skin in this game anymore, but I think it's important to remind the community about just how long these communication issues have been prevalent amongst Thomas productions. For example, I was at my peak-obsession with Sander Sides at 14. The signs started cropping up of a sinking ship while I was in my first year of high school. Disgruntled artists, lackadaisical deadlines, and silenced staff members were the norm. Now I'm about to turn 21.

I'm musing on my plans ahead for a specific story (I'll update y'all when the month is over and I'm back on social media! but I have made a plot breakthrough literally three years in the making), and I realised: this character would absolutely have religious OCD/scrupulosity. So I need to do research.

People with ROCD, what resources would you recommend/what is it like living with scrupulosity? I may live with it myself, but I have no formal diagnosis and no medical professional has ever considered exploring it (that'd be multiple friends who've asked if I have OCD) so I'm hesitant to give her purely what I feel/experience in case I'm misleading myself.

A google search wasn't particularly helpful on specifically how to write it, hence why I came here.

Please signal boost and give me ideas :)

My child suffers from malnutrition and illness, lacking basic healthcare. He cannot play or grow in a healthy and suitable environment. They reside in a modest tent lacking comfort and security, suffering from a shortage of clean water and food, and encountering difficulties in accessing necessary healthcare. He'd really done a number on you this time. Fucked you into a state of complete exhaustion, and you'd fallen asleep easily once he'd finished with you. The sight of you sleeping in his bed, covered in marks that he left - naked and exposed and vulnerable, laid out in front of him, and so trusting, trusting, trusting - the sight usually fills him with something like smug satisfaction.

Now, though. He's not quite sure what he's feeling.

He drinks in every detail as he watches you, brow furrowing a bit while he tries to untangle the strange knot of emotions in his chest. You're such a pretty little thing. He doesn't want to look away.

Suddenly, the thought of not touching you is akin to blasphemy. His fingers start to draw lazy circles onto your bare shoulder, and a soft sound in the back of your throat makes him feel... he doesn't have a word for it, but it makes him pause, makes him scoot a bit closer, makes him wrap an arm around your waist to pull you flush against his plastron. You let out another soft sound, shifting in your sleep to lean into him. Trusting, trusting, trusting. Like it's easy.

The feeling of you pressed against him, soft and relaxed... he dips his face into your neck and breathes in, your scent making him a little dizzy, somehow. It doesn't make sense. Your scent hasn't changed. Nothing about any of this is really new, except for whatever the fuck is happening inside of him.

He's not sure what to think. It's almost... scary. As if now, for some reason, he's the one actually in danger.
