I feel like some of you doubt when I say things like I loved these games when I was a kid or I played them when I was younger. Well, in firing up Hotel Dusk, I finally have proof! On July 9, 2009, it was a month before my twelfth birthday.

Hotel Dusk was the first puzzle game I played that then introduced me to Ace Attorney, which then led to Layton. I have over 40 hours of gameplay saved on that file, and I remember buying it with my Christmas money, so I spent a lot of time in the world of Hotel Dusk and with these characters when I was still rather young.

the john chapters in ntn are so fun, I love seeing people discussing his justifications and motivations and failings, he’s such a good villain.

his narration is very much the account of someone who cared so much and was backed right up to the edge and decided to just fucking swan dive off. and I think it’s broadly true, or at the very least is true to how he understood the events, if not the specifics—when questioned on the order of events, he stumbles. “what’s the difference between the truth and the truth you tell yourself,” etc.

I think his explanation to alecto, in the aftermath of her destruction, isn’t him looking for absolution. he doesn’t want to be forgiven. he reacts badly to alecto/harrow saying “I still love you,” and I think that still is doing a lot of heavy lifting, because that means I love you despite, and that implies wrongdoing. but he isn’t a guy who makes mistakes. I don’t think he wants forgiveness. forgiveness doesn’t exist. I think he wants his audience (alecto primarily, harrow and us circumstantially) to go “okay. you didn’t have any other options. I get it now.”

but this seems like john’s account more or less immediately after the destruction of the planet and his reshaping of alecto, and we the reader have seen what he does afterward, and see exactly how many options he had—ten thousand years worth of them—and how every time he chooses to double down and keep hunting, keep punishing, keep building a wall between himself and accountability. because he doesn’t make mistakes. but it doesn’t work on harrow, and it doesn’t work on us, because we exist outside of the narrative john tells himself. we know too much.

Alastor's sex- and romance-repulsed - The only indication of this is his reaction to Angel's advances and he reacts in the same way EVERYONE reacts, because Angel's advances are shown to violate literally everyone's boundaries (Vaggie even refers to this as Angel sexually harassing the staff). This can be seen with Alastor, Husk, and Sir Pentious. Alastor doesn't like being touched at all and this is made abundantly clear throughout the show. As someone who is sex-repulsed and aroacespec, a single canon instance (two if you count the pilot) of Alastor being repulsed specifically by Angel's advances doesn't mean he's sex-repulsed, it means Angel's advances violate his boundaries. (An alternative reading would be that he's just not interested, since the one instance of him being made uncomfortable by Angel's advances in the main series is him saying "Never going to happen." That still wouldn't mean he's sex-repulsed.) I'm not trying to say you can't headcanon that he is sex- and romance-repulsed but stop acting like it's canon that he is

Velvette doesn't want to work with Val and Vox and will break free from them at some point - Did the people saying this watch Scrambled Eggs. Did you see Respectless. You know she works with Val on love potions right. You saw how she interacted with Vox and Val during their part of Finale right. You realize the fact that she's complicit in their actions is barely subtext right.

Adam created the Exorcists - This is implied but never confirmed. I usually see this brought up as an argument against Guitarspear but thought I'd point it out anyway

i know it’s been said a million times but hozier truly writes some of the most beautiful love songs out there that just cover every aspect of the experience of love, from longing to be loved, aching to be loved, the ecstasy of being loved, the pain of being loved, the pang of grief and the love that remains. i know digital archives are a thing but i like to imagine that there will be historians who will discover them in hundreds of years and pore over them like we have with 16th century sonnets and cry over his love songs like we do now.

Vander is humungalogongus, Huck is Tiny, putting them together just emphasizes both of those qualities in such a delightful way aaa <33

GOD AND THE MUG. THE MUG WAS SUCH A SMALL GOOD CHOICE.

Vanders hand wraps around that tankard like it owe's him money smmnmdsnd whereas Huck would probably need to use two hands to do the same.

I just. It's such a great use of contrasting character designs!!

AND THE TWO SITTING TOGETHER !!! LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL CONTRAST!!!

Like sure Vander is big, but next to Huck,, he is BIG big. Absolute giant, I love how it helps boost those Protective Vibes he's meant to have!!! <333

AND THE SAME THING WORKS PRESTO-REVERSO FOR HUCK. He looks so insanely small compared to him, and joint with how he curls into himself, all of it just makes him look so. fragile.

It's such a fantastic way of getting across the Vibes of the characters in a nonverbal way. giving the animators my bank info as we speak.

Like even outside of his tinger-tapping - the way his eyes can't sit still, his very jittery uneven movements, his eyebrows are almost always Bunched Up in that worried expression, that nervous laugh like UGHHHH <333

There's so many good details post-timeskip I gotta talk about MSNDSM

I. GRMGKRKGR. The way they re-introduce Huck makes my brain start bounding off my skull

First he's fully covered by the cloak, he looks relatively normal

then he falls backwards, revealing that he's completely emaciated, far past his previous thinness.

THEN we get the close-up shot to show the tumor, giving us a glimpse into just how damaging shimmer has been on his body - his hood even falls off to give us a full look.

I JUST. GOD. The escalation. Those small moments of Tension-Release are scattered all throughout Arcane and they all give me such massive brainworms.

LIKE EVEN FOR PPL WHO MIGHT NOT REMEMBER HIM,, ITS JUST SUCH A GOOD WAY OF REVEALING THOSE DETAILS.

and for the people who DO remember him it adds that little layer of,,,, Youch

AND THAT ANGLE. GOD. It really feels like we're looking down at him from the barrel of Cait's gun. The cinematography in this show is always so pretty.

(this is also the moment where we can see the escalation of his habits!!)

His eyes are more jumpy, his hands are more expressive, that nervous laugh he has is escalated to the point that it. sounding like he's gonna burst into tears. ('I- I owed her old man my life. Probably more.. than that - I guess' ..... Bill Lobley did such an amazing job w/ his voice aaa)

My absolute favorite detail they added was post-timeskip Huck's,, self-soothing behaviors?

He holds his own hand, he leans against his arm - at one point he tries to rub his forehead before flinching back, forgetting his tumor is there AAAA </33333

It's so clear he isn't accustomed to contact, which makes Cait's hug feel so much more cathartic </3

HE JUST <33333. They really emphasize how vulnerable he is. His constant fear and his desperation to not be afraid is such a key part of his character.

Like he says himself that one of the main reasons he turned to shimmer was to finally, finally make other people the ones who are afraid I JUST. AAA. I FUCKING LOVE THIS GUY YALL IDK WHAT TO SAY.

He's!! genuinely happy that Vi is gonna get help!! It's so clear that the choice he made to turn in Vi wasn't one he made easily.

If there's any last thing to say it's just. The crew did such a good job adding all that depth. Huck gets 5 mins total on-screen and they still took the time to flesh him out.

Hes truly paved a path for idols and their careers and genuinely I'm forever in awe of where he's started, and where he is now 15 years later. Like... yall..

This man is truly the goal in that industry and I need you to understand how minimally his natural talent caused that but moreso his determination to hone his craft and then expand into different areas constantly so he wasn't just an exceptional dancer but an artist in all senses..
