Hey, related to your website migration, are you following any of the recent WordPress drama?

honestly i spent months trying to find a way to make ghost work for me so i could get off wordpress and away from photomatt's ability to tantrum but it just wasn't fucking happening. wordpress is what all the plugins are for and that's what makes it versatile. if a payment processor exists, someone has made a wordpress plugin for it. every single alternative i've seen, if you get booted off stripe for smut crimes, you're fucked. i'm still able to use stripe and haven't had any problems, but i like to be prepared for the possible futures where i can't take payments with stripe anymore. so... wordpress. if i didn't want to paywall content or take payments i probably could have switched, but that's the Whole Point, so here we are.

thinking about... walking back from mordor. this is a personal shorthand for a lot of things, but it mainly relates to the question of what comes after. so the dark lord is defeated, so the war is won, what now?

In a literal sense, sam and frodo don't walk back from mordor. They're rescued and airlifted to safety and healing. they don't have to do the whole ugly slog across the polluted lands in reverse. the eagles are deux ex machina in that sense, but it doesn't feel unearned after frodo and sam have gone to the brink of their own destruction in destroying the ring.

but in a more psychological sense, frodo and sam spend the rest of their lives walking back from mordor, where mordor is the shadow of the ring and the wounds they experienced from their journey and from carrying it.

the scouring of the shire is about walking back from mordor, when the shadow of mordor comes to your door. it's about undoing the pointless and cruel rules imposed by sharkey-saruman and frodo keeping the hobbits from killing surrendered enemies.

I'm fascinated by the after. maybe it comes of reading history, I don't know. few of the sff books I read seem to be similarly fascinated. authors don't seem to be so keen on the hard slog of rebuilding as they are on the revolution.

re my 3 seconds ago reblog i feel the need to remind y'all that I do not tag posts as n.sfw anymore unless they're explicit. As an artist I've experienced Tumblr's filters slapping a community label and shadowbanning anything that gets an n.sfw label on it -- even if it's just nudity and technically meets their policies, EVEN if someone else reblogs it and puts that tag on.

(this is also why I hate that Tumblr lets people "suggest" community labels. The idea is good in theory assuming everyone is acting in good faith and has the same idea about what constitutes as needing one, but that's how a lot of queer posts get shadowbanned).

anyway if you don't want to see suggestive/spicy/nude content I tag it as cw nudity since thus far I haven't had any issues with the tumblr censors grabbing it.

Posting a rare WIP because I'm not really digging how I textured Junior, but it was too late to stop once I realized it was way too dense.
