Fantasy Guide to Interiors
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a followup to the very popular post on architecture, I decided to add onto it by exploring the interior of each movement and the different design techniques and tastes of each era. This post at be helpful for historical fiction, fantasy or just a long read when you're bored.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interior Design Terms
Reeding and fluting: Fluting is a technique that consists a continuous pattern of concave grooves in a flat surface across a surface. Reeding is it's opposite.
Embossing: stamping, carving or moulding a symbol to make it stand out on a surface.
Paneling: Panels of carved wood or fabric a fixed to a wall in a continuous pattern.
Gilding: the use of gold to highlight features.
Glazed Tile: Ceramic or porcelain tiles coated with liquid coloured glass or enamel.
Column: A column is a pillar of stone or wood built to support a ceiling. We will see more of columns later on.
Bay Window: The Bay Window is a window projecting outward from a building.
Frescos: A design element of painting images upon wet plaster.
Mosaic: Mosaics are a design element that involves using pieces of coloured glass and fitted them together upon the floor or wall to form images.
Mouldings: ornate strips of carved wood along the top of a wall.
Wainscoting: paneling along the lower portion of a wall.
Chinoiserie: A European take on East Asian art. Usually seen in wallpaper.

Baluster: the vertical bars of a railing.
Façade: front portion of a building
Lintel: Top of a door or window.
Portico: a covered structure over a door supported by columns
Eaves: the part of the roof overhanging from the building
Skirting: border around lower length of a wall
Ancient Greece
Houses were made of either sun-dried clay bricks or stone which were painted when they dried. Ground floors were decorated with coloured stones and tiles called Mosaics. Upper level floors were made from wood. Homes were furnished with tapestries and furniture, and in grand homes statues and grand altars would be found. Furniture was very skillfully crafted in Ancient Greece, much attention was paid to the carving and decoration of such things. Of course, Ancient Greece is ancient so I won't be going through all the movements but I will talk a little about columns.
Doric: Doric is the oldest of the orders and some argue it is the simplest. The columns of this style are set close together, without bases and carved with concave curves called flutes. The capitals (the top of the column) are plain often built with a curve at the base called an echinus and are topped by a square at the apex called an abacus. The entablature is marked by frieze of vertical channels/triglyphs. In between the channels would be detail of carved marble. The Parthenon in Athens is your best example of Doric architecture.
Ionic: The Ionic style was used for smaller buildings and the interiors. The columns had twin volutes, scroll-like designs on its capital. Between these scrolls, there was a carved curve known as an egg and in this style the entablature is much narrower and the frieze is thick with carvings. The example of Ionic Architecture is the Temple to Athena Nike at the Athens Acropolis.
Corinthian: The Corinthian style has some similarities with the Ionic order, the bases, entablature and columns almost the same but the capital is more ornate its base, column, and entablature, but its capital is far more ornate, commonly carved with depictions of acanthus leaves. The style was more slender than the others on this list, used less for bearing weight but more for decoration. Corinthian style can be found along the top levels of the Colosseum in Rome.
Tuscan: The Tuscan order shares much with the Doric order, but the columns are un-fluted and smooth. The entablature is far simpler, formed without triglyphs or guttae. The columns are capped with round capitals.
Composite: This style is mixed. It features the volutes of the Ionic order and the capitals of the Corinthian order. The volutes are larger in these columns and often more ornate. The column's capital is rather plain. for the capital, with no consistent differences to that above or below the capital.
Ancient Rome
Rome is well known for its outward architectural styles. However the Romans did know how to add that rizz to the interior. Ceilings were either vaulted or made from exploded beams that could be painted. The Romans were big into design. Moasics were a common interior sight, the use of little pieces of coloured glass or stone to create a larger image. Frescoes were used to add colour to the home, depicting mythical figures and beasts and also different textures such as stonework or brick. The Romans loved their furniture. Dining tables were low and the Romans ate on couches. Weaving was a popular pastime so there would be tapestries and wall hangings in the house. Rich households could even afford to import fine rugs from across the Empire. Glass was also a feature in Roman interior but windows were usually not paned as large panes were hard to make. Doors were usually treated with panels that were carved or in lain with bronze.
Ancient Egypt
Egypt was one of the first great civilisations, known for its immense and grand structures. Wealthy Egyptians had grand homes. The walls were painted or plastered usually with bright colours and hues. The Egyptians are cool because they mapped out their buildings in such a way to adhere to astrological movements meaning on special days if the calendar the temple or monuments were in the right place always. The columns of Egyptian where thicker, more bulbous and often had capitals shaped like bundles of papyrus reeds. Woven mats and tapestries were popular decor. Motifs from the river such as palms, papyrus and reeds were popular symbols used.
Ancient Africa
African Architecture is a very mixed bag and more structurally different and impressive than Hollywood would have you believe. Far beyond the common depictions of primitive buildings, the African nations were among the giants of their time in architecture, no style quite the same as the last but just as breathtaking.
Rwandan Architecture: The Rwandans commonly built of hardened clay with thatched roofs of dried grass or reeds. Mats of woven reeds carpeted the floors of royal abodes. These residences folded about a large public area known as a karubanda and were often so large that they became almost like a maze, connecting different chambers/huts of all kinds of uses be they residential or for other purposes.
Ashanti Architecture: The Ashanti style can be found in present day Ghana. The style incorporates walls of plaster formed of mud and designed with bright paint and buildings with a courtyard at the heart, not unlike another examples on this post. The Ashanti also formed their buildings of the favourite method of wattle and daub.
Nubian Architecture: Nubia, in modern day Ethiopia, was home to the Nubians who were one of the world's most impressive architects at the beginning of the architecture world and probably would be more talked about if it weren't for the Egyptians building monuments only up the road. The Nubians were famous for building the speos, tall tower-like spires carved of stone. The Nubians used a variety of materials and skills to build, for example wattle and daub and mudbrick. The Kingdom of Kush, the people who took over the Nubian Empire was a fan of Egyptian works even if they didn't like them very much. The Kushites began building pyramid-like structures such at the sight of Gebel Barkal
Japanese Interiors
Japenese interior design rests upon 7 principles. Kanso (簡素)- Simplicity, Fukinsei (不均整)- Asymmetry, Shizen (自然)- Natural, Shibumi (渋味) – Simple beauty, Yugen (幽玄)- subtle grace, Datsuzoku (脱俗) – freedom from habitual behaviour, Seijaku (静寂)- tranquillity.
Common features of Japanese Interior Design:
Shoji walls: these are the screens you think of when you think of the traditional Japanese homes. They are made of wooden frames, rice paper and used to partition
Tatami: Tatami mats are used within Japanese households to blanket the floors. They were made of rice straw and rush straw, laid down to cushion the floor.
Genkan: The Genkan was a sunken space between the front door and the rest of the house. This area is meant to separate the home from the outside and is where shoes are discarded before entering.
Japanese furniture: often lowest, close to the ground. These include tables and chairs but often tanked are replaced by zabuton, large cushions. Furniture is usually carved of wood in a minimalist design.
Nature: As both the Shinto and Buddhist beliefs are great influences upon architecture, there is a strong presence of nature with the architecture. Wood is used for this reason and natural light is prevalent with in the home. The orientation is meant to reflect the best view of the world.
Islamic World Interior
The Islamic world has one of the most beautiful and impressive interior design styles across the world. Colour and detail are absolute staples in the movement. Windows are usually not paned with glass but covered in ornate lattices known as jali. The jali give ventilation, light and privacy to the home. Islamic Interiors are ornate and colourful, using coloured ceramic tiles. The upper parts of walls and ceilings are usually flat decorated with arabesques (foliate ornamentation), while the lower wall areas were usually tiled. Features such as honeycombed ceilings, horseshoe arches, stalactite-fringed arches and stalactite vaults (Muqarnas) are prevalent among many famous Islamic buildings such as the Alhambra and the Blue Mosque.
Byzantine (330/395–1453 A. D)
The Byzantine Empire or Eastern Roman Empire was where eat met west, leading to a melting pot of different interior designs based on early Christian styles and Persian influences. Mosaics are probably what you think of when you think of the Byzantine Empire. Ivory was also a popular feature in the Interiors, with carved ivory or the use of it in inlay. The use of gold as a decorative feature usually by way of repoussé (decorating metals by hammering in the design from the backside of the metal). Fabrics from Persia, heavily embroidered and intricately woven along with silks from afar a field as China, would also be used to upholster furniture or be used as wall hangings. The Byzantines favoured natural light, usually from the use of copolas.
Indian Interiors
India is of course, the font of all intricate designs. India's history is sectioned into many eras but we will focus on a few to give you an idea of prevalent techniques and tastes.
The Gupta Empire (320 – 650 CE): The Gupta era was a time of stone carving. As impressive as the outside of these buildings are, the Interiors are just as amazing. Gupta era buildings featured many details such as ogee (circular or horseshoe arch), gavaksha/chandrashala (the motif centred these arches), ashlar masonry (built of squared stone blocks) with ceilings of plain, flat slabs of stone.
Delhi Sultanate (1206–1526): Another period of beautifully carved stone. The Delhi sultanate had influence from the Islamic world, with heavy uses of mosaics, brackets, intricate mouldings, columns and and hypostyle halls.
Mughal Empire (1526–1857): Stonework was also important on the Mughal Empire. Intricately carved stonework was seen in the pillars, low relief panels depicting nature images and jalis (marble screens). Stonework was also decorated in a stye known as pietra dura/parchin kari with inscriptions and geometric designs using colored stones to create images. Tilework was also popular during this period. Moasic tiles were cut and fitted together to create larger patters while cuerda seca tiles were coloured tiles outlined with black.
Chinese Interiors
Common features of Chinese Interiors
Use of Colours: Colour in Chinese Interior is usually vibrant and bold. Red and Black are are traditional colours, meant to bring luck, happiness, power, knowledge and stability to the household.
Latticework: Lattices are a staple in Chinese interiors most often seen on shutters, screens, doors of cabinets snf even traditional beds.
Lacquer: Multiple coats of lacquer are applied to furniture or cabinets (now walls) and then carved. The skill is called Diaoqi (雕漆).
Decorative Screens: Screens are used to partition off part of a room. They are usually of carved wood, pained with very intricate murals.
Shrines: Spaces were reserved on the home to honour ancestors, usually consisting of an altar where offerings could be made.
Of course, Chinese Interiors are not all the same through the different eras. While some details and techniques were interchangeable through different dynasties, usually a dynasty had a notable style or deviation. These aren't all the dynasties of course but a few interesting examples.
Song Dynasty (960–1279): The Song Dynasty is known for its stonework. Sculpture was an important part of Song Dynasty interior. It was in this period than brick and stone work became the most used material. The Song Dynasty was also known for its very intricate attention to detail, paintings, and used tiles.
Ming Dynasty(1368–1644): Ceilings were adorned with cloisons usually featuring yellow reed work. The floors would be of flagstones usually of deep tones, mostly black. The Ming Dynasty favoured richly coloured silk hangings, tapestries and furnishings. Furniture was usually carved of darker woods, arrayed in a certain way to bring peace to the dwelling.
Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD): Interior walls were plastered and painted to show important figures and scenes. Lacquer, though it was discovered earlier, came into greater prominence with better skill in this era.
Tang Dynasty (618–907) : The colour palette is restrained, reserved. But the Tang dynasty is not without it's beauty. Earthenware reached it's peak in this era, many homes would display fine examples as well. The Tang dynasty is famous for its upturned eaves, the ceilings supported by timber columns mounted with metal or stone bases. Glazed tiles were popular in this era, either a fixed to the roof or decorating a screen wall.
Romanesque (6th -11th century/12th)
Romanesque Architecture is a span between the end of Roman Empire to the Gothic style. Taking inspiration from the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the Romanesque period incorporates many of the styles. The most common details are carved floral and foliage symbols with the stonework of the Romanesque buildings. Cable mouldings or twisted rope-like carvings would have framed doorways. As per the name, Romansque Interiors relied heavily on its love and admiration for Rome. The Romanesque style uses geometric shapes as statements using curves, circles snf arches. The colours would be clean and warm, focusing on minimal ornamentation.
Gothic Architecture (12th Century - 16th Century)
The Gothic style is what you think of when you think of old European cathedrals and probably one of the beautiful of the styles on this list and one of most recognisable. The Gothic style is a dramatic, opposing sight and one of the easiest to describe. Decoration in this era became more ornate, stonework began to sport carving and modelling in a way it did not before. The ceilings moved away from barreled vaults to quadripartite and sexpartite vaulting. Columns slimmed as other supportive structures were invented. Intricate stained glass windows began their popularity here. In Gothic structures, everything is very symmetrical and even.
Mediaeval (500 AD to 1500)
Interiors of mediaeval homes are not quite as drab as Hollywood likes to make out. Building materials may be hidden by plaster in rich homes, sometimes even painted. Floors were either dirt strewn with rushes or flagstones in larger homes. Stonework was popular, especially around fireplaces. Grand homes would be decorated with intricate woodwork, carved heraldic beasts and wall hangings of fine fabrics.
Renaissance (late 1300s-1600s)
The Renaissance was a period of great artistry and splendor. The revival of old styles injected symmetry and colour into the homes. Frescoes were back. Painted mouldings adorned the ceilings and walls. Furniture became more ornate, fixed with luxurious upholstery and fine carvings. Caryatids (pillars in the shape of women), grotesques, Roman and Greek images were used to spruce up the place. Floors began to become more intricate, with coloured stone and marble. Modelled stucco, sgraffiti arabesques (made by cutting lines through a layer of plaster or stucco to reveal an underlayer), and fine wall painting were used in brilliant combinations in the early part of the 16th century.
Tudor Interior (1485-1603)
The Tudor period is a starkly unique style within England and very recognisable. Windows were fixed with lattice work, usually casement. Stained glass was also in in this period, usually depicting figures and heraldic beasts. Rooms would be panelled with wood or plastered. Walls would be adorned with tapestries or embroidered hangings. Windows and furniture would be furnished with fine fabrics such as brocade. Floors would typically be of wood, sometimes strewn with rush matting mixed with fresh herbs and flowers to freshen the room.
Baroque (1600 to 1750)
The Baroque period was a time for splendor and for splashing the cash. The interior of a baroque room was usually intricate, usually of a light palette, featuring a very high ceiling heavy with detail. Furniture would choke the room, ornately carved and stitched with very high quality fabrics. The rooms would be full of art not limited to just paintings but also sculptures of marble or bronze, large intricate mirrors, moldings along the walls which may be heavily gilded, chandeliers and detailed paneling.
Victorian (1837-1901)
We think of the interiors of Victorian homes as dowdy and dark but that isn't true. The Victorians favoured tapestries, intricate rugs, decorated wallpaper, exquisitely furniture, and surprisingly, bright colour. Dyes were more widely available to people of all stations and the Victorians did not want for colour. Patterns and details were usually nature inspired, usually floral or vines. Walls could also be painted to mimic a building material such as wood or marble and most likely painted in rich tones. The Victorians were suckers for furniture, preferring them grandly carved with fine fabric usually embroidered or buttoned. And they did not believe in minimalism. If you could fit another piece of furniture in a room, it was going in there. Floors were almost eclusively wood laid with the previously mentioned rugs. But the Victorians did enjoy tiled floors but restricted them to entrances. The Victorians were quite in touch with their green thumbs so expect a lot of flowers and greenery inside. with various elaborately decorated patterned rugs. And remember, the Victorians loved to display as much wealth as they could. Every shelf, cabinet, case and ledge would be chocked full of ornaments and antiques.
Edwardian/The Gilded Age/Belle Epoque (1880s-1914)
This period (I've lumped them together for simplicity) began to move away from the deep tones and ornate patterns of the Victorian period. Colour became more neutral. Nature still had a place in design. Stained glass began to become popular, especially on lampshades and light fixtures. Embossing started to gain popularity and tile work began to expand from the entrance halls to other parts of the house. Furniture began to move away from dark wood, some families favouring breathable woods like wicker. The rooms would be less cluttered.
Art Deco (1920s-1930s)
The 1920s was a time of buzz and change. Gone were the refined tastes of the pre-war era and now the wow factor was in. Walls were smoother, buildings were sharper and more jagged, doorways and windows were decorated with reeding and fluting. Pastels were in, as was the heavy use of black and white, along with gold. Mirrors and glass were in, injecting light into rooms. Gold, silver, steel and chrome were used in furnishings and decor. Geometric shapes were a favourite design choice. Again, high quality and bold fabrics were used such as animal skins or colourful velvet. It was all a rejection of the Art Noveau movement, away from nature focusing on the man made.
Modernism (1930 - 1965)
Modernism came after the Art Deco movement. Fuss and feathers were out the door and now, practicality was in. Materials used are shown as they are, wood is not painted, metal is not coated. Bright colours were acceptable but neutral palettes were favoured. Interiors were open and favoured large windows. Furniture was practical, for use rather than the ornamentation, featuring plain details of any and geometric shapes. Away from Art Deco, everything is straight, linear and streamlined.

Naruto General Headcanons
A/N: i have quite a bit of requests but i have no motivation to write person 5 I'm so sorryyyyy it might be a while before i post them. if you have any other requests though please make sure to send something in!
Cast Line Up- Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi
Tumblr media
Naruto~
This kid has SO MUCH energy, but at a certain point in the evening he crashes so hard. Like you cannot get him to do ANYTHING because he's half asleep.
Has broken his arm twice. The first time when he was like 6 he fell off a tree while he was climbing it. The second time he was splashing paint on the great faces and as he was coming down he hit his hand on the ground too hard.
When he can’t sleep he sits on the roof of his apartment complex and stays there for a while, usually until the sun rises.
Likes to paint his nails frequently, usually bright colours, a big fan of bright oranges and greens.
Never has chapped lips. No matter how dry out it is he just never gets them.
After the chunin exams he holds a deep adoration for Neji, because he was able to change his point of view and become better and stronger, and Naruto finds it really impressive.
Sasuke~
Likes to draw, while he was in the academy he often found himself doodling on his work. If someone ever approached him about it he would deny them and tell them they were seeing things.
Sometimes when he feels really alone, he likes to turn on his TV for background noise and deep cleans/rearranges his bedroom. He does this usually once a month.
Can play guitar, and does sometimes. It reminds him a lot of his family, specifically Itachi, so he usually keeps it locked in the back of his closet.
A very avid reader. Has tons and tons of books.
Loves to stargaze. Spends a lot of nights, especially rough ones when he feels alone, watching the stars, usually in a tree or clearing.
After he left the village, for the first few months he actually missed being there, and missed Naruto and Sakura’s theatrics. He got over himself pretty quickly though.
Sakura~
VERY good at makeup, but because she's a ninja she rarely gets a chance to do it, because she usually sweats it off.
Used to wish her hair was blonde because Ino has blonde hair, and she was incredibly popular.
Very very flexible.
Also has a very large sweet tooth, and will take most sweet food over savoury or sour food. Can also handle spice VERY well.
Her legs are stronger than her arms, and she tends to use them more in training and combat. One of her favourite people to train with is Tenten.
Kakashi~
Hates ramen. Cannot stand it. It's been like that since he was a kid, and honestly he's not sure why, he just really cannot stand it.
Has very nice hands. They are usually fairly soft because he hates how his hands feel when they're dry.
Once tried to read a book that wasn’t Make Out Paradise and couldn’t even get past the second chapter.
Very lazy. His ideal day is staying inside his house in a comfy robe and soft slippers reading the day away.
Insomniac, and very good at hiding it. His bags aren’t obvious, and if they are he covers them up with makeup.
Hates being fussed over, but secretly likes to fuss over other people. He can’t really help it, he’s just lost so many people that he has to fuss over the people he loves.

Annecy photodump 4 - assorted
This one is just straight up posting my holiday photos. But there's a few little anecdotes along the way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Saturday, I unexpectedly ran into a protest passing along the road between Bonlieu and Pathé (the two most important places in Annecy). I'm not entirely sure what it was they were protesting, but it was interesting hearing the familiar rhythms of protest chants with French words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was funny seeing Liberty Leading the People printed on a protest sign after watching a film about the context behind its painting earlier in the week.
French coppers wear these little sailor hats, upholding the tradition of police everywhere to wear dorky headwear...
Tumblr media
I was standing by the lake trying to take a selfie with my DSLR when this guy in an Unreal Engine t-shirt sitting nearby offered to photograph me. I tried to say 'yeah so it's in aperture priority mode' to which he replied 'don't worry, I'm not a noob', switched it to manual and rapidly adjusted the aperture and exposure, and proceded to take some insanely nice photos of me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By contrast in my own attempts, the sky is way overexposed...
Tumblr media
So thanks, that guy! I am entirely shown up with my own camera, but one day I'll learn x3
BD Fugue is the big BD (comics) shop in Bonlieu. It's a wonderful place to just go in and look at all the enormous glossy books. For example, historical comics...
Tumblr media
or go over to the fantasy section for some 30-odd volumes of Elfes...
Tumblr media
There were a whole lot of similar comics to this series called stuff like 'Orcs' and 'Wizards'. (I don't remember the exact titles.) Must be quite popular!
As well as comics, it stocks books on animation and animation history. Conveniently, a lot of these are in English. I held off on buying comics in French (mostly...) but I got a very technical book on animation timing and a history of European animation, both of which I'm sure I'll be turning to a lot in the next year.
The VR room has a lot of bright coloured floors which provide some very nice examples of indirect diffuse-diffuse lighting, which is very expensive to render in games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's something inherently funny about seeing people immersed in VR like this.
Annecy has an abundance of old churches and cathedrals. Here's a few, inside and out...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think these are mostly Catholic, though I don't really know enough about church architecture to say. I was a little disappointed to find out that you can't go up to that little glass dome on the roof of the cathedral, but on the other hand, it is a very pretty dome.
On another note - I've been in a number of cities over the past couple months - London, Glasgow, Belgrade, Geneva, Annecy - and in every single one I've seen graffiti and stickers saying 'free gaza'. (Though I also saw a weird little Zionist street stand with a bunch of leaflets and shit in Geneva.) Here's some graffiti in Annecy and a BDS sticker from Zagreb. I don't want to draw too many conclusions from this - the governments of most of these countries are still doggedly backing the genocide - but it does feel striking to see support for Gaza expressed at least in the graffiti culture of so many places.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the coolest things about Annecy is that the Alps are always kind of like... just hanging out in the background. They're so enormous it's hard to photograph them really! But here's a few shots with Alps chilling behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And to wrap things up, one last DSLR selfie.
Tumblr media
À la prochaine, Annecy!

you play as an anthropomorphic humanoid squid (called inklings) who has the ability to transform back into a squid. and in 2 and 3 you can play as an octopus too (called octolings) and you use funky weapons to put paint everywhere (its called ink but its always super colourful and bright and noticeably thicker than ink so it looks like paint)
the main battle mode is called turf wars and you gotta ink as much of the ground as possible, there are 4 people per team and there are 2 teams. theres a ranked and a league battle mode too (just called anarchy battles in splatoon 3) and then there is grizzco where you gotta defeat a bunch of npc enemies for minimum wage by direction of a wooden bear figure
NOW I GET TO TALK ABOUT THE AGENTS HELL FUCKING YEAH agent 1 and 2 are the famed idols of splatoon1, callie and marie, and agent 3 is the protagonist of splatoon 1 story mode. agent 4 is protagonist splatoon 2, and in this one callies been taken and you gotta get her back. and then NEW agent 3 is splatoon 3's, where grizzco is the enemy now long fucking story. but og agent three is now the captain of the whole shebang
ohohohohoo okay octo expansion time this is splatoon 2's paid game mode you gotta pay like 25 bucks but its fucking WORTH IT the main character is named agent 8 because of the original captain's naming habits. this agent is an octopus fuck yeah. you are trapped in an underground subway with no memories and you gotta collect these things that are literally blender parts and then you almost get blended but then agent 3 (before they become the captain) BUSTS THROUGH THE FUCKING ROOF and destroys the damn blender and now you gotta escape the metro and there are literally 2 final boss fights. fight 1 is you gotta fight a mind controlled agent 3. fight 2 you gotta ink a statue. fucked up man. then you beat the octo expansion hooray
ok and now there is SIDE ORDER and agent 8 is the protagonist AGAIN and you have lost your memories AGAIN and pearl and marina (the two idols from splat 2) are your guides A-fuckin-GAIN but this time youre trapped in a world marina made that went fucking evil or something. whatever not her fault. i havent beat side order yet so i cant tell you a whole lot about it but its also great. i always choose the male agent 8 but you can make him a girl and girl 8 is generally the more popular one

Untouchable for Life, Chapter 1 (Anetra x Sasha Colby) - Writworm42
Admin Note: I'm so worry, Writ!! You should have been in the last queue, and I'm also sorry that it's taken me a million years to fix it after you told me. I have no excuse, I just completely forgot and I apologize deeply! -V
A/N: Summary: Anetra should be grateful for his new job as a photographer for the city's biggest queer tabloid. Especially considering how hard he fucked up before landing there. But it's all lost on him until he's roped into a special assignment, one that ties Sasha Colby into his life. But can the knots that bind him to his past be undone? Or will the cord he and Sasha walk on snap?
Sorry not sorry for all the puns in the summary fhdsjfk but I promise chapter summaries will have more specific to the chapters themselves and the story as a whole!!!
Anyways, remember how I said I'd never write another multichap bc they're too much stress? WELP! Thank you nickysjaida for encouraging me and athena for beta-ing, you're both so wonderful <3
Fic title from I Turn My Camera On by Spoon
Anetra sighs, dropping his head into his hands as his thoughts race. His boss watches in front of him intensely, almost to the point of scrutiny, but what can he do?
He doesn’t exactly have options here.
“I just don’t get why—“
“The board wanted you gone,” Michele shuts him down immediately. “Hell, they wanted your head on a platter! This is the best I can do for you. You either take it, or you go collect your things.”
“But I wouldn’t even get to write!” Anetra huffs. “Not even captions or anything!”
“I know,” Michele says coolly. “Why do you think I was able to negotiate this? You’re too good to lose, Anetra, but I guarantee if you walk, it’ll be the last time you ever work in journalism, photo or otherwise.”
Anetra groans. Michele is absolutely right—he fucked up, and fucked up big. Lose his credibility big. Sue the whole company big.
But does that really mean he has to go to Q-Beat ? He’ll be a laughingstock in the journalistic community— Q-Beat may be the most popular queer magazine in the country, but it’s barely above a tabloid. Hell, maybe it’s worse—they’re probably the only print mag he can think of that has more listicles in one issue than actual pieces, and the product placements are so obvious they might as well just say Absolut wrote the news updates.
There’s a reason the whole industry calls it Q-Bait as a joke.
But with the scandal he’s in, he can’t afford to negotiate now. If he wants to do anything other than Walmart Christmas portraits for the rest of his life, he has no choice but to take this job.
"Fine," he finally sighs, grabbing the contract and pulling it closer. "Give me a pen."
--
The Charles Media building is often referred to as a marvel of architecture in the city, and the reputation isn’t unearned. Standing under its sloped, pink-painted roof are twenty-five floors of different print outlets, each an empire in its own right. Anetra has to admit, it’s kind of impressive--from magazines to books, encyclopedias to graphic novels, if you can flip or scroll through it, you can find it nestled among the offices in the tower.
Perhaps most impressive, though, is the way the architects were clearly so committed to the bit when they designed the place. From floors one to twelve, everything is wide, spacious, and decorated in black and silver. The floors narrow slightly after that, and from thirteen all the way to its sloped roof, the building’s colour scheme is a deep magenta, with sparkle and hints of blush. And that’s just the outside--within the walls of 96 Tucker Avenue, things are even more colourful, bringing the entire aesthetic full circle.
The perfect shade of lipstick for the perfect media queendom, both inside and out.
At least, that’s the vision the company projects. Right now, Anetra feels anything but perfect—and from the way his coworkers avoid him in the elevator, he’s pretty sure the feeling is mutual.
At least Q-Beat is near the top floor. Once the last few people filter out around the sixteenth floor, he has the elevator car all to himself, leaving him alone to try and collect his thoughts.
From what Anetra knows, the farther up the tower you go, the more isolated the group, meaning there’s a chance that no one at Q-Beat knows who he is or what he’s done. A perfectly fresh start. Good; his talent will speak for itself that way, and he can make friends based on that. If he even wants to--maybe friends aren’t such a good idea. The main condition of being able to keep this job was to lay low, after all.
Plus, the longer he tends to stay in one place, the less people seem to want him around. Especially now that he’s a liability.
It’s a thought that hurts, and he’s glad to be able to swallow it as the elevator comes to a stop at the twenty-third floor.
The sight that awaits Anetra as the elevator doors glide open makes his jaw drop.
Back on the eighth floor where Anetra’s old magazine was located, everything had been all business all the time. The walls and the floor were a stern black, with tiles that clicked under your feet as you walked. There had been almost no decor in the entrance either, other than a pair of leather chairs under a harsh silver sign directing visitors to various offices tucked behind heavy mahogany doors.
But on the twenty-third floor?
Anetra can’t help but feel like he might as well be on an alien planet. He had expected pink, had expected some sparkle and embellishment. But he had had no idea just how much of a culture shock it would be. It’s such a contrast, he barely knows where to start—though maybe the entrance is as good a place as any. The floor’s lobby is fully furnished with tables and chairs and even some floral arrangements, separated from the action by only a glass door and floor-to-ceiling windows that allow a clear view of the Q-Beat workspace behind it. The floors are plush zebra-print carpet, the walls an almost violent pink lit up by a fluorescent sign welcoming visitors to Q-Beat with cursive font. And when Anetra peers into the office space, he sees not a maze of cubicles, but an open floor plan that’s bustling with people in casual dress.
In other words, friendly coworkers and lax norms without anywhere to hide from either.
Fuck.
“Are you Anetra?”
Anetra snaps to attention and sees a tall blonde standing in the office’s doorway looking at him with anxious eyes.
"Oh, um… Yes?" He frowns. He was supposed to meet the editor-in-chief first, but this woman is in jeans and a tank top that shows off well-defined muscles and big tattoos, her hair fluffed up in an almost rockabilly style--definitely not like any chief Anetra has seen before.
"Are you asking me or telling me?" The woman's eyes narrow. "Because I have a meeting in fifteen minutes and only ten before my Ativan hits, so I really need to get a move on orienting you if you are."
Anetra decides right then and there that no matter who this woman is, he definitely likes her.
“I’m Anetra,” he tries again, stepping forward and extending a hand for the woman to take.
“Loosey LaDuca, she/her pronouns, editor-in-chief,” she shakes his hand firmly. But before he can drop his hand away, she grips it harder, pulls him forward through the glass doors and into the office.
“Let me introduce you to the others, they’re really excited to meet you.”
Crap.
Loosey’s tour of the Q-Beat workspace is a whirlwind, so fast that Anetra almost wishes he’d brought a notebook with him. Though that probably wouldn’t have done much to help him either; Loosey doesn’t even stop to breathe as she charges through the office with Anetra in tow, so he seriously doubts she would have let him slow down to write. At least he avoids seeing too much of the team this way; Loosey’s version of ‘introducing’ is more like drive-by name-dropping, and Anetra is perfectly content to settle for the waves he and his new coworkers exchange as he passes.
Good things can’t last forever, though, and sure enough, Loosey’s tour comes to a hard stop right in front of a large table surrounded by people who immediately turn all their focus on Anetra.
“This right here is our photography department. Well, two of them are,” Loosey rolls her eyes. “The rest of you, get back to work please?”
“Hey, they were working!” a short woman with hair almost as big as Loosey’s protests. “Half of them were reviewing the photos that are going to go with their article.”
“Uh-huh, and the other half?” Loosey retorts.
“Is this Poppy’s replacement?” The other woman left at the table pipes up quickly, a smooth change of subject accompanied by an even smoother smile.
“Oh, yes,” Loosey says, her eyebrows raising in surprise as if she’d forgotten Anetra was beside her. “Anetra, this is Mistress--” she points to the smaller woman, who nods curtly, “--And this is Salina. Ladies, Anetra is coming to us from News Summary Weekly , so things might work a little differently here than he’s used to. So be nice, Mistress.”
“Hey!” Mistress huffs when Loosey shoots her an extra-pointed look.
“You know I’m right,” Loosey rolls her eyes. “Now, will you guys take over from here? These pills are not doing what they’re supposed to, so I’m gonna go take a three-minute power nap before I have to talk budget for the rest of the afternoon.”
“Sweet dreams!” Salina calls after her, cackling when Loosey shoots her the middle finger over her shoulder in response.
Just like that, their attention is turned back on Anetra, giving him the distinct feeling of having been thrown to the wolves.
“So you’re from the political phonebook, huh?” Mistress starts in right away, her lip twitching as she looks Anetra up and down. “You’re certainly dressed like it.”
“Hey, wait a second,” Salina adds pensively, “Ain’t that the magazine with the guy who--”
“Sorry, what are your guys’ pronouns?” Anetra cuts in fast before Salina can finish that sentence, hoping to God the heat he feels rising in his cheeks isn’t visible to the two women before him. “I use he/him.”
“She/her for both of us,” Mistress answers with narrow eyes, her tone of voice skeptical. Anetra’s going to have to look out for her, he can tell. But at least Salina seems distracted enough—her attention is already back on her computer, which she wastes no time in sliding over to Anetra.
“Alright, newbie, come here and sit down, let me show you all the different softwares and shit we use in this department.”
It’s a close call, but he’ll take it. He smiles gratefully as he moves over beside Salina, leaning in close to get to work.

ㅤㅤㅤand it was working . the intimidation tactics , often turning physical , the rumours he spread and acted like he knew nothing of . it was just kind of unexpected how easy it was to overdo it , gossip of hana sleeping with a teacher to save his grades reaching the higher ups that resulted in his expulsion , and it was during one of his many power trips that hana learnt who had started all of it . so of course he rebelled for the first and last time , frantic , out of sheer terror , he still remembers the way sato had grabbed him by the hair and recounted what he had done , before eventually letting him off with a few more bruises and the promise hana would not be able to survive the world alone . it was up to hana to prove him wrong , and that exactly was what he was going to do .
ㅤㅤㅤwithout a college degree it was hard to find a job at first , not with his sort of character , at least it would seem . it was hard to get through some interviews with nothing to show . nothing he had confidence in . maybe sato was right , he would have thought , if it weren't for kaoru , owner of the bar SENKA , who took him in . it was supposed to be for just the night , the cheap motel he stayed in had learnt of the puppy hana had brought with him from sato's home lest it suffered more than just a bad leg , but after long conversations with kaoru and his other employees that cosy night in , hana had hoped to try putting his looks to good use .
ㅤㅤㅤmaybe it would prove the taunts he used to endure wrong , maybe it would prove them exactly to be true , that it was only what he was good for , but at least he ended up affording a cheap apartment to call his own a few months into the job . it was only then life seemed to be slowly getting back in order for him , including when he ended up reuniting with his mother just recently , who had now started a family with another man and their beloved daughter , but they seem eager to welcome hana into it all the same .

Tumblr media
"Um, Warden-san? Surely there's been a misunderstanding. Please let me out and we can talk about this."
Tumblr media
𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨
Name: Sasaki Yui / 佐々木 惟 (The kanjis in her last name mean "help, aid" (repeated, indicated by the iteration mark 々) and "wood". Her first name means "think, consider, reflect".)
Status: Prisoner 006
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Birthday: May 25 (Gemini)
Height: 177 cm
Blood type: AB
Image color: #CF9FFF
Occupation: Idol
Personality: Yui is cheerful and sociable, often approaching others with a soft smile. She's a great conversationalist too, able to speak with anyone on any topic as she knows a little bit about everything.
Her usual demeanor can only be described as "cute". She speaks in a soft voice and her movements are gentle. Her fans love her for it. The messed up people in Milgram could hardly care less.
There are times when her cheerful demeanor falters when she's alone though, when she stares blankly into the distance with sagged shoulders. If she notices someone coming, she'll brighten up immediately. Unfortunately for her, Milgram has some quiet people that are good at sneaking around. She'll have to keep her guard up.
Tumblr media
𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨
Which canon Milgram song she would cover: It's not my fault (I told you I’m queen; It’s always the same; God gave me everything, everything is as I wish)
Which DECO*27 song she would cover: Negative shinkaron
If she could cover a song by a different Vocaloid producer, which one would it be: Paradichlorobenzene by Owata-P
Her MV description: The first minute of the MV takes place in a school, the rest of it in a dance stage. Bright colours are present most of the time but dark grey appears a lot in both locations.
The MV starts with Yui making her way up an old grey staircase. She's dressed in her school uniform, so this event takes place a few years in the past. Fluorescent lights flicker once above her. She reaches a door at the end of the staircase and opens it, revealing a school roof and the summer sky painted a bright and blinding blue.
A blue-haired girl sits by the fence, sipping from a bottle of strawberry soda. Yui goes over and sits down next to her. Together, they watch a video of idols performing on stage. The girl gets excited after a while and pulls Yui up to her feet, dragging her along to copy the dance routine they had just watched.
They do a synchronized spin, and the school setting switches to the dance stage setting. Yui and the girl's school outfits have changed into idol outfits. Yui wears purple whilst the other wears pink. They're in an idol group of five and doing a different dance routine now. A big crowd cheers from below, waving coloured light sticks around. The number of pink light sticks outnumber the other four colours.
They have a meet and greet after the show. Yui watches as a group of girls surround her friend, holding out album covers and photo books for her autograph. A fan approaches Yui and her gaze is torn away from the blue-haired girl. She smiles warmly.
The show is over. Yui beckons for her friend to follow her, excitedly running across the now empty stage. Without the colourful spotlights and flashy visuals being shown on screen for the show, the stage looks awfully grey and dull. Yui looks back at her friend as the girl jogs over to catch up to her. Above them, a spotlight jerks and falls.
The last shot of the MV shows a close up of Yui flinching, then her expressions morphs into one of horror. The MV ends.

(Cheerful) Hello! My name is Sasaki Yui. I'm 22 this year. I work as an idol! And I'm quite popular according to my fans, hehe. Warden-san, this must be a mistake, right? How could someone like little old me possibly murder anyone?

Her favourite colour is lavender.
Her favourite food is matcha swiss roll.
She has a strict 5-step skincare routine that she adheres to everyday. Her skincare products were the first items she requested for since arriving at Milgram.
She has 4 million followers on Instagram.

I cannot draw. So picrew saves the day once again!
I like how both of the "love and passion" prisoners feature dance in their MVs. It's a cute similarity.
I really like Yui's last name for some reason.
I also wanna braid her hair...

Veranda Installation: A Guide to Enhancing Your Outdoor Space
Adding a veranda to your home is a fantastic way to extend your living space, providing a seamless transition between the indoors and outdoors. Whether you're looking to create a serene retreat or a vibrant social area, a veranda offers both aesthetic and functional benefits. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of veranda installation, from planning and design to construction and maintenance, ensuring you achieve the perfect addition to your home.
Benefits of Installing a Veranda
1. Increased Living Space
A veranda extends your home’s footprint, offering additional space for relaxation, dining, or entertaining. This outdoor area can be enjoyed year-round, providing shelter from the elements while allowing you to appreciate the beauty of your garden.
2. Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal
A well-designed veranda can significantly enhance the visual appeal of your home. Whether you opt for a traditional or contemporary style, a veranda adds character and charm, making your property more attractive.
3. Improved Property Value
Installing a veranda can increase the value of your property. Potential buyers often see a veranda as a desirable feature, offering extra living space and enhancing the overall appearance of the home.
4. Versatile Use
Verandas are incredibly versatile and can be used for various purposes, including outdoor dining, a play area for children, a place to relax with a book, or even an outdoor office space.
Planning Your Veranda Installation
1. Assessing Your Space
The first step in planning your veranda installation is to assess the available space. Consider the size and layout of your garden or patio area, and decide where the veranda will be positioned. It’s important to ensure that the location you choose complements the overall design of your home and garden.
2. Design Considerations
When designing your veranda, think about the style that will best suit your home. Traditional verandas often feature ornate detailing and wooden structures, while contemporary designs may use sleek lines and modern materials like aluminium and glass. Additionally, consider the type of roofing – options include clear or tinted glass, polycarbonate panels, or even retractable roofs for added versatility.
3. Obtaining Planning Permission
In the UK, planning permission may be required for certain types of veranda installations, particularly if the structure is large or affects the exterior appearance of your home. Check with your local planning authority to determine whether you need permission before proceeding with your project.
4. Setting a Budget
Determine your budget for the veranda installation, taking into account the cost of materials, labour, and any additional features such as lighting or heating. Having a clear budget will help you make informed decisions throughout the process and avoid unexpected expenses.
Choosing the Right Materials
The materials you choose for your veranda will impact its durability, appearance, and maintenance requirements. Here are some common materials used in veranda construction:
1. Wood
Wood is a popular choice for traditional verandas due to its natural beauty and versatility. It can be painted or stained to match your home’s exterior. However, wood requires regular maintenance to protect it from weathering and pests.
2. Aluminium
Aluminium is a durable and low-maintenance option for contemporary verandas. It’s resistant to rust and corrosion, making it ideal for the UK’s variable weather. Aluminium can also be powder-coated in a variety of colours to suit your design preferences.
3. Glass
Glass is often used for veranda roofing to allow natural light to flood the space. Clear, tinted, or frosted glass can be chosen depending on your privacy and shading needs. Glass requires regular cleaning but offers a sleek, modern look.
4. Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate panels are a lightweight and cost-effective alternative to glass. They offer good insulation and UV protection, making them suitable for roofing. Polycarbonate is available in various thicknesses and tints.
The Installation Process
1. Hiring a Professional
While some homeowners may choose to install a veranda themselves, hiring a professional ensures the job is done correctly and safely. Professional installers have the expertise and tools necessary to handle all aspects of the project, from foundation work to roofing installation.
2. Preparing the Site
Before installation begins, the site must be prepared. This may involve clearing vegetation, levelling the ground, and laying a foundation. The foundation is crucial for providing a stable base for the veranda structure.
3. Building the Frame
The veranda’s frame is constructed using the chosen materials, whether it’s wood, aluminium, or a combination of both. The frame includes posts, beams, and rafters, which provide support for the roof and overall structure.
4. Installing the Roof
The roofing material is installed once the frame is in place. This involves fitting glass panels, polycarbonate sheets, or other roofing materials securely to ensure they are weatherproof and stable. If you’ve opted for a retractable roof, this will require additional mechanisms and fittings.
5. Adding Finishing Touches
Once the main structure is complete, additional features can be added to enhance the functionality and appearance of your veranda. This might include installing lighting, heating, or outdoor furniture. Consider adding decorative elements such as plants, cushions, and rugs to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere.
Maintaining Your Veranda
Proper maintenance is essential to keep your veranda looking great and functioning well. Here are some tips for maintaining different materials:
1. Wood
Regularly inspect wooden components for signs of rot or pest damage. Treat the wood with a suitable preservative or paint every few years to protect it from the elements.
2. Aluminium
Clean aluminium frames with a mild detergent and water to remove dirt and grime. Check for any signs of corrosion, particularly if you live near the coast, and address any issues promptly.
3. Glass
Clean glass panels regularly to prevent the build-up of dirt and water spots. Use a glass cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge to avoid scratching the surface.
4. Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate panels can be cleaned with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or tools that could scratch the surface.
Conclusion
Installing a veranda is a rewarding project that can transform your outdoor space into a functional and stylish extension of your home. By carefully planning the design, choosing the right materials, and ensuring proper installation and maintenance, you can enjoy the benefits of your veranda for years to come. Whether you’re looking to create an outdoor dining area, a cosy reading nook, or a play space for children, a veranda offers endless possibilities for enhancing your lifestyle and adding value to your property.

A Palette of the Past: 10 Roofing Colours That Define Historic Homes
When you go to different places, it is impossible not to find a historic home. They can be seen everywhere, giving the place a different look and vibe. Their roof can already tell you so much about the age and significance of the house, especially its colour and style. To help you visualise a historic home, here are some roofing colours you will commonly see in historic homes according to Newcastle roof painting professionals:
Slate Grey
When you look at historic homes, one of the roofing colours you will notice is slate grey. This colour is dark grey with hints of blue or green. It is a natural inspiration for roofing, flooring, and even decorative applications that you will commonly come across in old homes. It is versatile and gives homes a sophisticated aura, like in Victorian homes.
Terracotta
Terracotta is another colour for roofing historic homes, especially those with Spanish colonial and Mediterranean architecture. You will easily notice it because it resembles the colour of natural clay which also has the same name. When you see it, it makes the place look warm because of its undertones, like reddish-brown to orange-brown. This traditional and timeless colour has been influencing architecture for years, giving it a years-old ambience to the home.
Charcoal Black
When it comes to timelessness and sophistication, nothing can ever beat charcoal black. This deep and rich shade of black creates richness and drama in the home. It can also pose some dramatic effects because of its slightly matte and muted appearance. Aside from roofs, walls and floors can also take advantage of this colour, matching everything homeowners put and buy in their homes.
Forest Green
Historic homes, like Tudor-style homes, give importance to nature, so it is no surprise that forest green is a known colour. It conveys a sense of tranquillity and connection to the entire home and to people who will look at it.
Weathered Wood
Weathered wood is a natural wood tone commonly used in historic homes. It looks like it has been aged and weathered by exposure, but the quality is still as good as new. Its natural appearance of greyish-brown or silver-grey tone can show the effects of various environmental factors. It is rustic and vintage, making it popular for interior and exterior use.
Whitewash
Whitewash colour is loved by many because it makes the place look light and bright. It might look washed out or faded, but its natural texture and grain are what make it unique. It gives historic homes some traditional and rustic aesthetic, so it is common in interiors and exteriors. Blending it with different colours is also not difficult because they can match everything perfectly.
Cream
Historic, even modern homes, still use cream colours for their interiors and exteriors. Popular during the Edwardian era, it gives the home warmth and cosiness. The softness of this colour can also complement different colours you have in your home, making everything look belong and match. From historic to traditional to classic to modern to minimalist homes, you can never go wrong with this colour.
Ocean Blue
If forest green can make historic homes reflect forests, this shade of blue is for the ocean. Ocean blue makes the home look calming and relaxing, promoting a soothing atmosphere through the roofing. It is refreshing to look at, like Victorian seaside cottages, so it is no wonder people stop to look at them when they pass by a historic home. It is timeless and has lots of symbolism, like peace, stability, and tranquillity.
Ruby Red
If red is something you fancy having on your roof, historic homes have already used it. This intense shade of red can make Victorian homes look full of richness, vibrance, and luxury. Old homes that have this colour on their roofs scream drama and elegance.
Mustard Yellow
Yellow is one of the colours often overlooked in homes, but historic homes say otherwise. This warm and earthy shade of yellow enhances the mood, making people feel more lively and positive. Whether you apply it indoors or outdoors, you can never go wrong with it.
Historic homes, no matter how old they get, can impact modern architecture. These colours on their roof are just a start to understanding the place better and what they represent. The message is clear: never ignore your roof and its colour. They are just as important as the other parts of your home.
