Genuinely, the reason why so many discussions about transgenderism end up the way they do (in addition to the overt transmisogyny) is a complete unwillingness to view gender (and sexuality) as political categories, instead viewing them exclusively through the lens of "personal identity"
"Why do people use agab/tma? Is not the point of being trans to escape the shackles of your agab?" I cannot stress this enough but I am not the one doing the shackling, society has invented the shackles and I am using language to describe them and how they affect me
In a hypothetical future situation where society is no longer (trans)misogynistic and the patriarchy has been fully dismantled, these terms will have no real use. But it's important to recognize what is current actual material reality and what is simply idealism and hypotheticals
I would love to live in a world where tma vs tme is not a meaningful distinction. But that world doesn't exist (and also you are not helping make it so it does), and so those terms remain useful
#like i know this is the idealism website but so much more of the world makes sense when you abandon that flawed framework lol#this post might not be the most coherent but here we are

Happy Pride! Now that Lunar Boy (our middle grade graphic novel) is out, we wanted to share our thought process behind queer vocabulary in media. The constant censorship, imposed western biases on queer culture, and what it means to introduce queer vocabulary to a young audience.
Check out Lunar Boy wherever american graphic novels are sold, or check it out at a library!
#pride month#pride#queer#trans#lgbt books#qpoc#queer books#lunar boy#graphic novel#my art#longish post#just in case it needs to be said: of course it's okay not to identify with “queer” for any personal reason! but in talking about media rep#it's important to discuss the potential biases that could be imposed if we reject queer vocab all together#and the limitations the lgbtqia acronym has in encompassing identities outside of a western framework

Haymitch and Peeta's relationship matters sooo much to me actually and I do not think we talk about it enough! Considering Haymitch's reluctance to allow himself to care about anyone at the start of the trilogy, it's remarkable how quickly he lets both these kids in. A big part of it is just that he actually put effort into mentoring them, of course, which necessitates getting to know them a little, which is something he hasn't let himself do with any of his tributes for years (and that's really all it takes, isn't it, getting to know them a little is all it takes to start caring about them, because despite everything the big heart Haymitch had as a 16 year old is still beating somewhere inside him somewhere, no matter how hard he's tried to beat it down). But it's not just that. After all, he wouldn't have put effort into mentoring them if it hadn't been for who Katniss and Peeta are as people. They're his pair of fighters.
Despite the new info about Burdock in SOTR, I do not think that alone was enough get Haymitch to start caring as a mentor, nor do I think it really contributes all that much, actually, to his decision to "choose" Katniss over Peeta in the first games. Obviously he cares that this is Burdock's daughter, but in the end it's really just that Katniss flat out has a better chance of winning, and Haymitch knows it. So he picks Katniss.
...Then they both make it out. And back in the Victor's Village, Katniss has her family to watch over and everything that's going on between her and Gale. She's got plenty keeping her busy. But Peeta is alone, like Haymitch. His family doesn't ever seem to come visit. He and Katniss aren't really speaking. Suddenly this kid is dropping off bread in Haymitch's kitchen every morning and coming by to eat meals, this great kid who shouldn't be alone, but is seemingly nonetheless alone, because why else would he constantly be there? It's been a long time since Haymitch has been the best someone's got. After that realization, how can he help but open himself up a bit further? Cleave open a crack in the fortifications he's built up around his heart?
Then...the Quell. And Haymitch is denied even the chance to volunteer to die in Peeta's place. He has to find a more complicated, creative way to save the both of them. Because at this point I don't think it's fair to say Haymitch chooses Katniss again over Peeta. It's largely out of his hands. Plutarch, the narrative, the rebellion, all of them have already chosen Katniss over Peeta for him. So Haymitch has to resort to making his separate promises to both of them, and trying his best to stay true to those promises, even when they seem diametrically opposed.
I imagine Haymitch is doing a lot of maneuvering behind the scenes at the beginning of Catching Fire, first to get all the other tributes to be willing to die not only for Katniss (who is the established priority of the plan), but for Peeta too. The explanation later given is "well they all knew you'd fall to pieces if Peeta died, Katniss, so they had to keep him alive to keep you going along with them" but... is that even strictly true? Do most of the tributes *actually* believe that? Finnick doesn't. He straight up tells Katniss later that he didn't, not until he actually witnessed Katniss' reaction when Peeta collided with the force field. I have to conclude he's not the only one who had serious doubts about Peeta and Katniss' ~love~. Yet somehow all these people go into Games willing to save Peeta over themselves and a bunch of other people they've known a lot longer, when Peeta isn't even the one labeled as critical to the Revolution. Why is that? Because Haymitch somehow convinces them it's important. That there's at least some validity to Katniss being inconsolable and uncontrollable if Peeta dies, even if they don't believe in the love story itself.
The first part of Haymitch's plan is convincing the other tributes Peeta also needs to be kept alive, and the second part is making sure Peeta is in the right place at the moment of rescue. This is revealed when Haymitch and Katniss confront one another in Mockingjay about Peeta's capture: "How could you not save him?" "How could you let him out of your sight?" Haymitch was banking on Katniss and Peeta refusing to leave one another's side in the arena. It's obviously a dicey gamble, given the unpredictability of the Games and the fact that he's keeping the rebellion a secret from them entirely, but it's kind of where Haymitch has to place all his hopes. Let Plutarch and the others prioritize Katniss, and do everything in his power to make sure Peeta still gets rescued, anyway. It doesn't work, but he does try to keep his promises to both of them. He loves them both the same amount!
I also think it's notable that pre-highjacking, Peeta never genuinely blames Haymitch for choosing Katniss over him in the first games. He only throws it back in Haymitch's face when he's particularly angry at him about something else (as in Eleven's Justice Building on the Victory Tour, when he's made about Haymitch & Katniss keeping secrets from him) or when he's using it as leverage (his bargaining chip to get Haymitch to save Katniss in the Quell). Peeta doesn't blame him, but Haymitch does blames himself, for a long time after. And even though he didn't strictly choose Katniss in the Quell, he blames himself for that, too. That Peeta was taken.
So Haymitch is the one visiting highjacked Peeta everyday in the hospital, and the one keeping tabs on his recovery to relay to Katniss when she refuses to get involved directly. He's the one on the phone begging her to remember their promise to try and save Peeta! I wonder if at the end of Mockingjay, a part of him feels a bit guilty for accompanying Katniss back to Twelve. Obviously he knows there's not really any choice, Katniss does need him more than Peeta in that moment, she can't be sent off on her own. Peeta needs to stay in the Capitol to get the best care, and Katniss is the one who's the least stable. Still, it must feel a bit like he's leaving Peeta behind...again. The boy nobody was able to be there for at his least stable. This boy who's never been anyone's top option or first choice, not until Katniss catches up to her heart (and even that's something that's so tangled nowHaymitch doesn't even want to poke at it.) So he goes home with Katniss but it's still all wrong. Half his family is still missing.
It must come as such a relief when Peeta finally comes home.
#ahhhhhhh#haymitch abernathy#peeta mellark#the hunger games#sunrise on the reaping#sotr#thg#it drives me nuts that people are saying things like 'oh haymitch was alwaysss going to choose katniss since she's burdock's daughter!'#like...no? (i actually think he still sets up peeta as best he can for success under the framework of focusing on katniss to win too.)#(but that's another post lol)#anyway#there's just this weird idea amongst people that katniss is always more important to haymitch than peeta and i think that's wrong!#it was kinda already there but it's gotten worse since the burdock best friend reveal#and it's one of my biggest thg fandom pet peeves omg#he loves them BOTH those are BOTH his kids!!!!

Where can you play ride kamens? It looks fun looking at your blog but idk where to play
it'll doesn't start until the 30th, but there's some pre-release episodes/character bits that are scattered around the website and twitter! (the links to pre-reg/download are also on the website :D)
honestly I'm really enjoying it just based off of the pre-release stuff, these characters look like they're going to be exactly that blend of ridiculous and emotionally constipated that hits me so right.
#art#ride kamens#no no i get it though water tastes DIFFERENT#anyway i'm trying not to read too much into the zangetsu/ryuugen meta but also#whenever takato opens his mouth i'm like 'this man would absolutely steal a baby'#man i almost don't even care about the actual game i'm having enough fun with the marketing#these morons are already important to me and i don't even know what their deal is#(this is very off-topic but i've always thought it would be fun to someday do one of those things)#(where the story is told entirely through an outside framework)#(like fake game manuals or posts about shows that don't exist and things like that)#(i think it's commonly used for horror but i just! like it in general!)#(an exercise in minimalism! this character has three sentences of canon and three thousand fanfics about them)#(what i'm saying is that ride kamens is proving that i can get invested based on absolutely nothing okay)

UPDATED taxonomy of living mikes chart
hey everybody, new mike chart! roughly the same deal as [the old one], but in light of the lieutvia michael fiasco it now includes some mikes that were later consolidated into other mikes. but not all of them! so this chart is either non comprehensive to a new goal or contains a lot of extraneous information to the old one. lol
see the notes for other caveats and exclusions. otherwise, this should list every mike in woe.begone up to episode 191! contains spoilers up to that point, of course. as with the first one, this excludes speculation and operates on information we are currently given to understand is true.
EDIT: fixed the latvia mike section and distinguished organizational squares from groups! the original post on my blog will be kept up to date! (with fixes not with the show lol can you imagine)

it's nice that the genre framework of a mass-produced action novel tend to gamify empathy, isn't it? makes human interaction so easy to understand. if you choose an incarnation to raise, you can see your understanding of them increase, and watch their power levels grow as their bonds with others increase. save a person, and they are in your debt. play on their traumas you already understand, and you can earn their loyalty. this action earns you an ally, this one an enemy. human hearts reduced down to words on a page, skills, stats, bonds, understanding that can be used to borrow their skills.
makes it simple for kim dokja, a man who has next to no practical experience with deep human bonds, to comprehend how people work, doesn't it?
#narrates#orv#kind of an evil post here. raven's been pointing out the commodification of empathy#and how kim dokja's skills specifically tend to engender a mindset where other people are tools he can used#while she's been reading orv for the first time#rly got me thinking.#when the only framework you have for understanding the world still gives you a starting place for empathy#but is still a little bit fucked in how it functions ‼️‼️‼️‼️

Okay so like…
“I think transandrophobia is inherently a bad framework for discussing transmasculine issues”
Is fine and all.
But the thing is?
So many of us feel underserved by the existing frameworks people are using to describe our experiences for us, which is why we’re trying to come up with a framework at all.
And so just saying “trans men and mascs shouldn’t be using this framework” in the face of that sounds a lot like “and so you should go back to other people describing your experiences for you” because of an entire lack of suggesting any other framework.
Build your own frameworks to discuss this stuff if you’d like, if you think the way those of us using the word transandrophobia are doing a poor job. That’s totally fine. But that’s not what these people are really saying, when you look at it, because they’re not using any other framework to discuss these things. They’re not showing us better frameworks or working toward making those better frameworks. They’re just saying “what you’re doing isn’t good enough” and that’s it. That’s where I’m failing to see any good-will behind this new angle of coming after those of us who are talking about transandrophobia.
#my post#transandrophobia#transmisandry#anti-transmasculinity#and sometimes someone will suggest the framework of one of these other words while not realizing#that it’s the same framework under a different name because of attempts to stop people coming after the construction of the word#we’re using itself

honestly i'm kind of interested in the idea of laios in an arranged marriage. because obviously straight-up inherited monarchies are ...bad, to say the least! but it's what the characters are familiar with (even laios' father's extremely local, extremely minor leadership role is inherited, presumably through the male line). and it isn't just about what they think the best way to run melini is; in terms of ensuring that the other longed-lived nations respect melini's continued sovereignty, having it passed down in a manner that's close enough to their own ways for them to understand it and respect it is important. And it seems like most of the other nations have leadership through inheritance - thought that isn't confirmed for certain except with the elves.
Also, a marriage carries the potential to establish foreign allies - something melini is certainly lacking. A marriage could come with resources they'll badly need, treaties of mutual defence, money, legitimacy and political capital... not that these things can't be worked around, but if laios isn't strongly opposed, there are a lot of advantages! and i don't think he would be, because that's the framework for marriage (conferring practical advantages, building intracommunity relationships and providing a partner to do important work that he can't do) that he had grown up with. he isn't exactly a romantic and I doubt he's holding out for any sort of relationship of that nature.
Like, I don't think it's impossible that they would go with this path, because it's the most obvious and it carries a lot of advantages and it's what almost all the decision-making characters would consider normal and not objectionable. and it could be so interesting.
I think Laios would have major hangups if expected (i.e., by Marcille) to establish a genuine, romantic interest in a woman. Whether because of his sexual or romantic orientation, or just his own deep-seated trauma about rejection and being inherently disgusting and scary. And I think he'd hate the idea of having kids, too, and be very frightened of being like his father. But I don't think he'd refuse on that basis; he could cope with a marriage contract, with clearly laid-out expectations and responsibilities. And when it came to having a kid, I think he'd be reluctant to express that he doesn't want to do it, because he isn't naive and he understood when he agreed to be king it would carry responsibilities like this. It's clear from his nightmare that he already felt pressure from his parents to have children, probably magnified by the fact his father has got a position, responsibilities and wealth to pass on. Obviously he isn't a perfect martyr, so he might struggle when it comes to actually going through with it - but I don't think he'd actually, outright refuse. I think he might do it even though he doesn't want to, and I think that could be really messy in a way that appeals to me.
I don't know, there's something about negotiating these kinds of complicated situations that's interesting to me. and i love a platonic marriage. If they find a woman who has an interest in education, for example, and can work with marcille on setting up schools and universities. she'd ideally be politically savvy enough to be an able partner to laios: even though kabru can and would continue to do a lot of that, there are different spheres that a queen and a prime minister can work within!
how would their relationship work? maybe she finds laios' perspective on the world, and his frankness, unexpectedly liberating after an extremely controlled, cloistered upbringing. maybe she had a rebellious phase, has magic, or something else which makes her a relatively unpopular candidate for marriage - even as melini grows in power, i doubt that they'd be getting offers for the cream of the crop in terms of perceived value on the marriage market, because laios' relationship is a bit too ambivalent/monstrous for that, and melini too new. maybe she's a widow! an older woman, wouldn't that be cool - though they'd want her young enough that she could definitely still have kids.
certainly i think he'd be happy for her to pursue other relationships, though ideally in a manner that couldn't produce illegitimate kids. with other relationships in play, that's even more interesting. like, both kabru and toshiro have complicated emotions relating to infidelity. i think kabru would actually find it quite cathartic to be in the kind of high-status environment that rejected his mother for perceived infidelity, pursuing an affair that all parties consent to, though he'd likely be incredibly aware of the public image - since "image" is what he was rejected for. toshiro... i just really really love the way he'd feel about being the "other woman" in laios' marriage, considering his feelings about his father and maizuru. especially given how much closer he is to maizuru than his mother, being in her position...! his emotions would be so complex, it's incredibly tasty. i bet he'd make a bunch of assumptions about how laios' wife feels about it and be totally wrong, and that's so interesting. also, i think laios' wife should fuck marcille (she and falin have an open relationship).
#og post#dungeon meshi manga spoilers#dunmeshi#laios touden#inheritance! in the cultural framework these characters are working with#it really matters#this is why in my unwritten postcanon story i have the touden parents have another kid. can you imagine laios' feelings on that! god.#negotiating some kind of freedom within the restrictions responsibilities and expectations of this position#is part of what is so interesting to me abt postcanon dm#and it's extra interesting to me if there are a lot of restrictions and responsibilities laios can't or won't escape and has to work around#and marriage and kids are a big one there... exactly BECAUSE laios is so viscerally uncomf with the expectations of heterosexual masculinit#so easy to read as transfem nonbinary gay etc#i want to see him treating a marriage contract like he does the problem of the demon. if that makes any sense.#putting that brilliant autistic brain to work to see a way to do this that isn't like your father did

really cowardly to restrict replies on your posts. but the male privilege that trans men experience (and we do! i would know, i'm a passing trans man!) isn't "cancelled out" by the transphobia we're oppressed by. both things can be true, that trans men are oppressed by transphobia and that trans men can benefit from male privilege. also, it should be obvious that a closeted trans person is only superficially "benefiting" from being closeted. closeted gay people are still hurt by homophobia, regardless of if someone knows they're gay.
LOL, yes i am such a coward random person hiding on anon. also none of my replies are off, check who youre seeing the reblog from. click on my post and reply to it, their settings may be overriding mine. yea.
anyways no trans person will benifit from a cis societal structure. they can find ways to "benifit" as good as you can just forget the whole thing and repress yourself forever. benifit from being "cis" there yea? anyways thats not how oppression nor intersectionality works. maybe try and understand some of the fundamental concepts before making stupid comments like this.
also why is a closeted trans person "superficially" benifiting but the random hypothetical trans man you enforce that every trans man is just "regularly" benifiting? absolutely absurd. no trans person benefits from these ideals. at best you can be hidden away and thus 'benifit' from any systematic structures thinking you are trans, but that doesn't mean the social oppression and ideals don't still affect you. this line of logic is absurd at best.
#not even gunna disect this one its stupid as shit#anti transmasculinity#transandrophobia#transmisandry#reminder btw; most of our posts r co-written by a transfem#xoxo#no but its so funny to me#“well someone whos seen as a cis man in society but is actually a woman is only superficially benifiting”#“but someone who is a cis man and is actually a trans one has ACTUAL benefits"#very weird lmao#asks#like your logic cannot work in any framework where you take into account like. most trans experiences

Netflix Devil May Cry episode 1 review
Although it's the first episode, I've mentioned some stuff that happens in the other ones and I mention stuff from the games and other materials, so be careful of spoilers.
When I began watching the episodes, I kept a notepad open to write the stuff that I personally liked or disliked. Also, it's difficult not to compare to the source materials because after all, I'm not judging an original work, but you will see that I have criticized parts based on how they were presented.
Even without using the name DEVIL MAY CRY, to me it was a mediocre show because of its writing.
To be clear, if you liked the show, that's great, I'm only expressing my personal opinions as a longtime fan that was disappointed on how the series was treated. If you'd like to know more context about my disappointment, it stems from the producer of the adaptation that you can read about it here.
I would like to say that this is a pretty long post. I might not do the same for others but I hope that I can get some feedback.
First off, when the adaptation was released, there were people who said "Since when did Devil May Cry take place in America?".
DMC takes places in our world and in the first game at least, it took place in America. This information comes from the manuals of the first and second games.
The Vatican was also mentioned in the manuals. There are pieces of texts from "Demon World's History" that belonged to the forbidden library of the Vatican. I think that Fortuna in DMC4 took the place of that location.
-Ok, so, my problem is, and correct me if it was mentioned, but I don't recall if there was an explanation... How the heck did Force Edge end up in a museum? Later in the episode it seems that the scientist dude and Baines seemed like they didn't knew much about it? Baines asked Enzo about the sword and Enzo told the legend of Sparda and it's then that the scientist figured out the purpose of the amulet?
Like, I dunno, to me it sounds like even they, who should know that stuff, didn't knew that part from the legend?
So yeah...moving on.
The scene with the woman and her baby.
Okay, so it was a setup to lure Dante in order to get his amulet.
First, we see that a Plasma changes into that woman's baby and purposefully drops a rattle that gets carried by shadows into an alley.
I can only assume that some of the demons were nearby and saw the Plasma transform and where like "oh look, boss threw that thing this way, I think he wants us to lure that woman over here"...
The woman begged them to not hurt her child and one of the demons said "What daughter?".
I dunno, it's weird, like the Plasma could have just transformed into anyone, wait in the alley and scream for help while putting on a show with those other demons, since they seems to have been part of the setup for Dante.
Regarding her baby, she might be dead? When Plasma explained how its power works, it said that the person it copies has to be alive, but...alive just to copy them and then it can kill the person? Or would the appearance be lost if the subject dies? I didn't get how it works...The mother and baby appear in the last episode too, so...Is it the actual baby? Another Plasma? I'd say it's a plot-hole...
Another problem I had was how the scene after Dante rescues the woman. I think it was poorly executed...
She looked at Dante who was trying to break free from the Plasma. Like, if you saw a stranger acting like that near your baby, wouldn't you shout and try to get the person away from the kid right away? It seemed like she kept looking until Dante pointed the gun at the Plasma, that's when she went up to Dante. And she didn't see at all that her baby looked like a monster? Dante blocked her view that much?
A lady hitting him with a handbag managed to outrun him, the guy who was able to save people when a huge truck was crashing into a dinner and in the next episode he was dodging bullets...Like WTF?

-A rare occasion where I say something positive.
First I gotta say : fuck the quantum physics trope! I'm not a fan of Marvel/DC but I think that's where I heard it used the most.
Ugh, okay like I said, despite that, It is true that lesser demons can pass trough the portals, but they still need a medium in the human world such as the Marionettes in DMC1, but that doesn't apply in this setting because…demons were a branch of homo sapiens that adapted in the Demon…ahem, "Makai". That's the reason why they don't need mediums?
However, in this adaptation apparently the big demons go back to Makai after the seal that separated both worlds was put back...isn't it weird? I mean, if they went back because of that, Sparda should have stayed there too, right?
Isn't this another plothole? I mean, the issue with the portals that were mentioned is that they would only allow lesser demons to go through them. They went through them and even if the portals closed, they would remain in the human world, but the greater demons, after passing through a portal that was strong enough to let them pass through...they would get transported back to the demon world of that portal was closed?
Yeah...moving on.

The dinner scene. So, Dante was able to to rescue people while a truck was crashing into the place but he couldn't catch up with the woman from before?

Oh man, I mocked the way "Vergil" looks here but when the real one showed up at the end, I'd say that this "Vergil" looks better here. He actually looks similar to Dante, unlike the..giga chad in the last episode.
Also, how come the Plasma knew how he looked like? It sounds like he was mostly using his Nelo Angelo appearance, so how did the Plasma, who was a minion working for White Rabbit, knew how Vergil looked like?

-Lucia! She got captured so easily...The Protector of Dumary Island...

They probably haven't given her the ability to use her Devil Trigger because if she had done that, she wouldn't let herself get captured that easily. Since the last episode showed Arius, they probably wanted to have her transform if she fights him or something...
Also, how the heck did the goon squad find her?
Baines said 'find every demon hunter that you can", but DARKCOM didn't go after Dante. Like they had his adress because it was shown that he was in their database but they found Lucia randomly in the city? I'm only judging based on the episode provided me with...
Moving on to the scene where the scientist looks up Dante's records.
Also gotta say it's so weird that Dante let himself get arrested…I guess since he didn't think of himself as a demon,, he might be obeying the law to some extant?
Whatever, so let's look at the records.

Note that on that profile EC, meaning eye color, it says "blue" however, they are green and Vergil is the one with blue eyes :/

Uhm, was it actually important for the government to include that he makes jokes and that he refers to his missions with video game terms? I found that weird...It's like those things are meant for the audience even though we, the audience would see if he's like that.

Five plus years of combat experience against demons?
So, Dante has been taking demon-hunting jobs since he was a kid? He's supposed to be 18-19, but these records say that they don't know his age...Well, he was arrested before but that's something they either didn't ask him or Dante refused to say.
Again, his and Vergil's designs make them look as if they're much older.
Next up is the amulet…

When I saw this I was like "Is this some Steven Universe bullshit?" Like seriously? I recalled that Shankar was asked why the amulets had different colors like the ones from the reboot and this was the reason? Geez…I think they are exaggerating the idea that each brother must have everything with their signature color.
Also, I think it was redundant that Sparda's legend was mentioned twice and like Enzo was the one who brought up the sword and the amulet, while Mary didn't.
Like, there was that episode where one of the goons from her squad didn't even knew about Sparda, believing the others were talking about SPARTA the Ancient Greek city. Like shouldn't be common knowledge for DarkCom, but Mary had to give them a written report or something like that? So yeah, kind of weird that Enzo seemed to know more than even one of those members from the elite demon hunters...

groans
End of the episode I skipped the DDR part because I cannot stand flashing lights…
So yeah, this was the first episode. I might not do such a long post for others because I do not want to revisit them...
Let me know what you think!
