FUUUUUUUUCK. first time viewing for me tonight. barely held it together at the end. 10/10. perfect and i do mean PERFECT dark fantasy and ideal double-bill with the company of wolves ('84). holy shit!!!!

like 'wolves' this is the type of media that makes me so excited to work on my novel -- i am desperately striving to evoke the same feel, i want you to read it and imagine everything's taking place on an elaborate soundstage with matte painting backgrounds and stylised lighting and fake trees etc. i love you mid-to-late 80s dark fantasy. i am brushing your hair out of your face and kissing your forehead.

She makes special guest appearances around Christmastime at the Pizzaplex to give gifts to partygoers!

Tbh I don’t think the other reindeer would have individual animatronics made for them—if anything, for a special event featuring a Santa appearance, there could be a few replicated hulls made to go over base Endos, & simply re-named/programmed to respond to the other names…

I kinda think Prancer’s gimmick could be electricity control? And probably hacking into any digital toys to sound alarms/set traps/disable the FazCam & Laserblaster. Highly detectable due to her red nose light & jingle bells, of course lol

Overall this was such a fun traditional artwork??? And idk if I’ve made a full traditional artwork in YEARS, so, honestly kinda proud that I was able to make something I’m really happy with!

Prancer (1989) was one of my favourite movies as a child. As dark and moody of a Christmas movie as it was, I really related to it and the main character, especially as a child. While this isn't about the movie, the idea of Prancer as a human falling in love with one of Santa's elves definitely came to me while watching it again and I just had to draw it. - I hope that whatever you do on the 25th, that you had a great time doing it. And I want to say that my heart goes out to all who feel lonely this time of year, may the next 11 months bring you the joy you may have not gotten this December. ❤️💚❤️💚❤️

Reindeer Gijinkas - Prancer

Next up is Prancer!

I… um… may have been self indulgent when making this design.

LEMME JUSTIFY MYSELF THOUGH

Okay, so “Prancer” is a word to describe horses who are really wild and fiery, so I made this gijinka a cowgirl, and as for her personality… okay yeah I made her flirty because I feel like it and she’s my type

ANYWAY! Prancer travels a lot, and doesn’t actually live in the North Pole. She visits every couple of months, and is kind of like the cool older cousin. She always has a ton of great stories to tell, and actually invites the group to stay at her ranch during the Summer months.

You all can probably guess who’s next! (And I was self-indulgent with her too)

“The Singing Reindeer”, also known as “The Happy Reindeer”, or “Dancer, Prancer, and Nervous”, was an Alvin & The Chipmunks-inspired group created by Russ Regan(Harold Rustigan) and Robert Plaisted(Bobby Please), signed by Capitol Records, to compete with said Chipmunks in the late 50s/very early 60s.

Obviously, The Chipmunks won over the majority of the competition, but even with the few songs The Singing Reindeer released (“The Happy Reindeer”, “Dancer’s Waltz”, “I Wanna Be An Easter Bunny”, “The Happy Birthday Song”), we still think they are a worthy competitor.

There was a vinyl released of “Instrumental Clips/Voice Tracks” that I want to get my mitts on since it seems to be the hardest to find. On the A side, there are voice tracks titled “Weather”, “Time”, “Shopping Days”, and “Merry Christmas”, and on the B side is where the instrumental clips are (from what I’ve seen it’s from “The Happy Reindeer”). If anyone reading this is selling a copy of this particular vinyl, we will happily buy it from you 🥺

Despite the fact that The Singing Reindeer have their own songs and are quite different than their main competitor, the majority of their legacy is being called a copy or a knockoff of The Chipmunks.

We got into The Singing Reindeer because of the fact that “The Walten Files” used “The Happy Birthday Song” as part of their OST, and it seems to be how a lot of people in the present day have come to learn of their existence. I think that’s really cool and also important, since it ensures that another bit of old music doesn’t get lost to time.

We currently own the vinyl for “I Wanna Be An Easter Bunny”/“The Happy Birthday Song”, but we hope to one day own a copy of each of the vinyls they released.
