I worked on a game and it's out NOW!!
I was the character designer and dialogue portrait artist on Ascending Inferno - it's a precision platformer where you have to kick your brother's soul out of hell like a wretched little soccer ball. Do you like suffering? Play Ascending Inferno. Do you hate suffering? Well you're in hell. I don't know what you expected.

One of the best things about this edition is that it stays true to the golden era of platforming title. And it wouldn’t be complete without a killer soundtrack, right? That’s why British composer David Wise is back to work his magic. If you’re into retro gaming, you’ve definitely heard his work before. Since he’s the genius behind some of the most iconic soundtracks in gaming history. Titles like Donkey Kong Country, Battletoads, and also Banjo-Kazooie. If you’re heading to gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany from August 21-25, you’ll have the chance to play Gimmick! 2 before it officially released. And as a bonus, David Wise himself will be there during the media days, available for interviews. If you’re into retro game music, this is a rare opportunity you won’t want to miss. So, mark your calendars for September 5th! Gimmick! 2 is bringing the old-school physics based precision platformer vibes back. You don’t want to miss out on this one. Whether you’re reliving the nostalgia or discovering it for the first time, this title is due to be a must-play on Linux and Windows PC. So be sure to Wishlist on Steam.

Sonar Scout Preview
This is more of a "it's not you, it's me" negative review. I liked what I initially thought was the concept of a chill game where you explore underwater with a sonar interface and slightly janky controls. The leaderboard should have clued me in that these puzzles and the challenge were not going to stay non-violent or at one's own pace. Turns out there are moving enemies that can hurt the submarine, and well, that becomes just unplayable for me. If you want a very different take on a precision platformer, this one is for you.

Sometimes I just want to take indie game developers by the shoulders and be like, dude, the reason big, chunky pixel art is so popular in precision platformers is because having movement and collision snap to a relatively coarse grid makes it easy to sight-read the hitboxes. It's not just for show. If your precision platformer uses chunky pixel art but doesn't have movement and collision snap to the grid, you've fundamentally misunderstood the functional reasons for your aesthetic choices. You want me to make pixel-perfect jumps in an engine where whether or not I get spiked depends on sub-pixel bullshit? Fuck off.

read a review for arctic eggs (video game) that was like "at first, launching eggs into the stratosphere is funny, but it gets old after a while" which, first of all, is a hysterical thing to read about a game you haven't played and know almost nothing about yet. like what do you mean. you can do that.
anyway now that i have played the game a bit, yes that does happen, and no it has not got old yet.
#creature talks#should i tag this as arctic eggs#it seems pretty niche on tumblr n this is a Whatsver post abt it so i feel like im clogging up the tag with sth inane#arctic eggs#anayway#have not finished it at ALL i only just finished the first lil area#but so far id recommend it absolutely. extremely funny. visuals r nice#controls r janky intentionally. steam page compares itself to getting over it which i havent played#normally i steer clear of anything close 2 a rage game. or anything that requires a lot of repetition to execute One Thing perfectly#precise platformers r like this 4 me for example when yr expected to die a ton as u go. sorry celeste i may pick u up again someday#i get very frustrated. arctic eggs has generally been consistently fun despite the constant redos?#humour of it helps. n again the controls r janky but so far it doesnt feel truly Unfair.#anyway. michael tag yapping over. hopefully the rest of the game is as engaging as this bc ive had a blast so far

explicitly not to get parasocial please do not make it like that, but tumblr fame is kind of like having a friend who you've known forever and you never ever talk but if you ever did it'd just be picking up wherever you left off. Like this website is full of people who are willing to just go "oh sweet the post is back" or something without questions. Site without expiration dates.
#it's weird that whenever I kick up enough noise on here again some random popular post I made recently will just take off again#it's basically never one of the new posts I made re: kicking up noise#and I realized that so long as I stay on this blog it'll just be like that. forever#unless I get thermonuclear cancelled I guess. still waiting for my turn lol#problemnyatic thoughts#and to be clear this is not me bragging. As much as I appreciate the utility of having a platform I kind of find tumblr fame to be a chore#And I do not have the capacity to maintain more than one blog. so I'm kind of just stuck with it#If ur not tumblr famous please cherish what you have. The website gets worse when people start to think what you in particular say matters#bc the way people are on here‚ it means they feel the need to walk their entire worldview through your mouth to confirm or deny its validit#And or to measure your precise moral weight#it is fucking E X H A U S T I N G

Precision puzzle platformer which initially appears to have a cliché "it was all a dream" ending involving the protagonist being found unconscious by the side of the road, except it's actually everything after your first "death" that was a coma hallucination, with different endings depending on how far you got before dying for the first time. You can tell whether you're still on the deathless route because certain of the game's more fantastical movement gimmicks do not appear in the "real world", obliging the player to devise alternative solutions for many puzzles.

Every time I have the misfortune to need to visit one of the '''updated''' islands in Wild Horse Islands I'm like 'I am going to break into the dev's house, eat all the food in their 'fridge like an angry raccoon, and then tie them to a chair for a mandatory unskippable 10 hour powerpoint on level design starting from first principles because they clearly do not know a solitary goddamn thing about it.'
#I cannot believe how much WORSE they made LITERALLY EVERY ASPECT of all three of them#just like#what the actual fuck#they have more verticality and platforming in a game where the controls are the opposite of precise#they're harder to navigate#which is exacerbated by the verticality like it makes the maps useless you gotta memorize where shit is and how to get there#being able to see something doesn't mean you can get there unless it's below you and you're yeeting off a cliff#speaking of being able to see things; you fucking CAN'T because they put WALLS everywhere#why#whi#tea plays too many games
