one thing i haven't seen people talking about enough when it comes to glimmer's relationship with shadow weaver is that glimmer was always underestimated by almost everyone else until she met shadow weaver.

she was the weak princess, the one who had to recharge her powers ever so often. angella was overprotective of her because of her trauma after losing her husband. castaspella jokingly says that she didn't expect glimmer to have any real friends, and that she thought that bow was an imaginary friend at first.

glimmer was younger than most of the other princesses (except for frosta) and was not in a position of power yet. she even calls herself a “screw-up” at some point. it's clear from s1 that she had low self-esteem and wanted to prove herself to everyone, especially her mother.

it makes sense that she warmed towards the first person who actually saw her for who she was. adora and bow cared about her, of course, but they didn't know much about her powers. they didn't see her potential in magic, shadow weaver was the first one who saw that.

and since glimmer didn't have anyone else to teach her how to nurture her powers, she had to rely on shadow weaver. not to mention, after angella died, she had no one to help her or give her some guidance. she had no prior experience in ruling a kingdom and shadow weaver was the only one who even remotely offered some advice and support.

this isn't meant to excuse glimmer's behaviour in s4, of course. but people often reduce her entire attitude in s4 to “glimmer siding with adora's abuser and acting bitchy” when it's a lot more complicated than that. glimmer had very few options and they were in the middle of a war. she had to weigh her options carefully and choose the most effective one, even if it meant accidentally hurting or inconveniencing people along the way.

What I wish the She-Ra fandom was:

People who acknowledge that Catradora is abusive and probably shouldn't have been romanticized in a kids show, but still enjoy it as the dark romance turned wish fulfillment wlw it is.

People who believe that Adora, Catra, Glimmer, and Bow should all be living happy fulfilling lives full of queerness by the end of the show, but that Catra should be living that life away from the people she traumatized. 

These two groups are friends. 

What the She-Ra fandom is: 

People who are in complete denial that Catradora is abusive. 

People who think Catra is irredeemable and should die. 

These two groups hate each other. 

(If you are actually a member of the first two groups though please hit me up I would love to have an spop community like that!!!)

It speaks volumes that most Bow stans are black people who offer constructive critisism of the show and that Glimbow defenders who're Glimmer stans always appreciate Bow on his own too while 'Spop Salt' people pretty much never actually bother to make Bow content other than trashing his writing with no fixes because they only care about Adora and their weird ass CONFIRMED age gap Entrapta ships and they ignore Netossa too and i'd go as far to say if Lonnie wasn't a lightskin(speaking as one)and a character who didn't have enough screentime to be written with flaws they'd bash her like they do Catra.As a black woman who selfships with Bow and an abuse victim who's succesfully breaking the cycle of abuse not because i'm 'naturally good' but because like Adora i was lucky enough to have friends that gave me the kindness that made me realize i was abused and could choose to a good person,keep Bow's name out of your performative mouths-Niggas ain't your guiltrip card you can use but not actually care about as ourselves

You know, when people attack or defend Catradora, there's something EVERYONE seems to forget when they're discussing Catra and Adora's relationship. And that is, until the end of the series, they weren't IN a relationship. They were bad friends who became enemies, they learned lessons and became friends again, and THEN they entered a relationship.

Bonus: Also, this isn't Sesame Street. The show's not teaching anyone how they should act in relationships. It's supposed to be entertaining NOT educational. Differentiating from fiction and reality is the duty of the viewer, no matter how old they are.

tumblr keeps recommending me c//a and pro Catra posts, it's both entertaining and irritating. anyway, i'd like to know your thoughts on this post!

personally, i feel like c//a stans misunderstand our point. we keep saying that Catra does deserve a redemption but she doesn't deserve forgiveness, or at least, instantaneous forgiveness when she has put no effort into trying to change. but they take it as "CATRA IS AN IRREDEEMABLE MONSTER WHO DESERVES TO ROT IN HELL" (which, ironically, is what they say about characters like shadow weaver).

also Adora "wanted" Catra in the finale season because that's how the authors wrote her. it made no sense for her character to suddenly want Catra back after it took her so long to finally cut Catra out of her life.

Do not go after the person who wrote the original post. (this is mostly for my other followers)

Tumblr has been doing the same thing to me, too. It showed me a post that said that as similar as Catra was to Shadow Weaver, she improved to be better. Which is a lie, lmao.

I hate that people think redemption and forgiveness are the same thing. You are allowed to improve as an individual, but the people you hurt don't owe you forgiveness. Sadly, SPOP doesn't have a single character that chooses not to forgive Catra. Even though Frosta punched her in the face, she was more accepting of Catra than Entrapta. Same counts for Perfuma and the other princesses. Though I'm pretty sure anyone would be demonized for not believing that "Catra got better!!!". S5 already does this when Adora vents about Catra being a stubborn brat, she just looks pathetic and Glimmer doesn't take her seriously.

And indeed, most stans think characters like Shadow Weaver or Hordak are not allowed to be redeemed, that's really because they're older and physically disabled.

Finally, yeah, Adora in s4 completely gave up on Catra, she didn't hesitate to nearly kill her without any remorse. Adora's priority was her friends, but especially Glimmer. "I want to be the hero she deserves". But you never see C//A stans talking about that, lol. They only bring up Glimmer and Adora's conflict or Glimmadora at all so they can shit on Glimmer and prove that Catra is a better girlfriend. Which is also bullshit.

Adora is allowed to want things, yes, but s5 pretty much sums it up as her wanting Catra of all people. Not her friends, not a family, or knowing more about her origins, idk. Just Catra. It's literally always about her. Adora is not a character that exists outside of Catra anymore. S5 definitely reinforced this, and the fandom only repeats this. It's annoying.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Viv was one of the spop writers, if you want a good LGBTQ+ show without being problematic, I do know a few!

The Owl House, an obvious pick but that's because it really is just so good, they don't just have the couple get together in the end, they build it up well and they are just being a cute couple for the rest of the series, there is also other lgbtq+ couples like Raine x Eda and Marsha x Vee

Rick and Morty, this one mighttttt be cheating because it isn't really focused on in the show but the main character is pansexual and most of the main cast besides like Morty is confirmed to at least be bi.

Steven Universe, it's not the best show ever, but it does have canon lgbtq+ characters and a gay wedding.

OK KO Let's be Heros! Again not a lot of focus is placed on it, but it does have a canon lgbtq+ characters and a gay kiss so that's cool!

Craig of the Creek, just a good show in general but one of the main characters named Kelesy is confirmed to be lgbtq+ since she has a crush on another girl and it has a gay kiss!
