butterfly etho for fanon swap?

Etho was in the midst of rifling through some chests in the shopping district when his antennae twitched, detecting a shift in the air behind him. Someone sneaking up on him? They weren't doing a very good job of it, which probably meant it was someone he didn't know, and there was only-

Movement again. Much closer. Too close to his wings.

Before his brain could even really catch up, Etho was sitting on a shelf on the shop's back wall, looking down at the new (well, new-ish, newest) hermit, whose black eyes had gone very wide.

"Grian, right?" he said pleasantly. "I don't think we've met."

Grian blinked at him, then back at the spot on the floor where he'd been standing, then back up at him again. "...Hello! Sorry to, uh, startle you? We've- goodness, I've probably made a horrible first impression here, haven't I. You're... Etho, right? I saw your... wings from out the door."

"And you were about to touch them," Etho noted, fighting to keep his tone neutral-to-vaguely-threatening even though he really wanted to laugh.

Grian looked like he was regretting every life choice he'd ever made. "It's a common problem with me?" he offered hopefully.

Etho would've grinned if he'd had a mouth that could do that. Instead he snickered, dropping back down to the floor. His wings flashed behind him, black-and-white stripes playing with the end-rod lighting. "Well, nice to finally meet you, Grian. I'll see you around, I'm sure."

He strolled out of the store without another word- without even getting the ender pearls he'd come for, he realized a moment after. Oh, well. He'd probably baffled the new guy for a good few weeks, and that was reward enough in itself.

From behind him, he heard, faintly: "...What?"

I have a local cryptid that I've seen about twice. Nobody who believes me can understand what it looks like, and everyone else just thinks I'm crazy.

Before you get super excited, I want to let you know that it's some sort of bug or animal. It's not extra terrestrial or monster-esc, it's just a really weird bug.

TW for vague descriptions of dead animals

Several things to get out of the way before I can describe it to you.... I live in Michigan, so anything that doesn't live around here is out of the question... and I collect bones from dead animals.

Ok, now the describing. About a year ago I was out tending to my maceration station (the place I keep my roadkill so that the bugs can eat away the bits and I can collect the bones once they're done) when I spotted this.... thing.

It was about four inches long, two inches wide. It had wings, and was flying like how a humming bird would do. Sort of hovering and dashing around. It's abdomin had two bright yellow lines and the shape of it reminded me of a wasp. It's face looked like a butterfly's face, with a probiscus and those weird shaped eyes. It had six legs, but when it landed the wings didn't stop flapping. The wings themselves were short and I couldn't get a good look at them because they never stopped moving, but they could have been a different color than the rest of it. I think it's main color was black but I can't quite remember.

I ran inside to grab a jar to catch it, but it was gone when I came back. I remember researching bugs, butterflies, humming bird moths, beetles.... none of them matched what I saw. And if they came close, none of them ate dead things.

That's right. It eats dead things. Today, I saw it again. I didn't have my phone (a mistake I'll try not to make again. I need a picture of this thing.) I watched it scout out the best place to land, and when it finally did, it unfurled its probiscus and started drinking.

I had a jar this time... (I wanted to catch some American carrion beetles to pin) but I was kinda scared of it. When it saw me trying to catch it, it CAME TWARD ME and started loudly buzzing. When I backed off of it, it flew away.

I'll update with pictures if I ever manage to get some. But it could be a year before I ever see the thing again.

"Costume? If you'll keep it between you and me, I'd much rather go in my real form. It would be amusing, if nothing else."

4. What is your favorite memory?

"Leaving my childhood home for the first time, I suppose. The cameras were terrifying, and everything was so loud, but it was just... Amazing. I knew I wanted to stay here from that moment onwards."

5. Is there an animal you are scared of?

"Butterflies. We had them where I grew up, and they were my worst nightmare. That probiscus... How can anyone consider it beautiful?"

6. If you could choose between being able to sing or dance like a professional, which would you choose and why?

"I'd rather dance. The ability to move swiftly has always been of value to me, and grace is a lovely trait to have."
