Denying a patient the right to a diagnosis just bc the disorder you suspect they have doesn’t have a cure is ableist and abuse of power.
Patients have the right to know what is going on with their body. If you aren’t prepared to help them, there is an entire community who can provide them with the knowledge & skills you lack (symptom management, clinical trials, latest research, emotional support, list of specialists and treatment options, etc).
The least you can do is give them the diagnosis.

The One Who Waits: what if its Death?
Death is what waits for everyone. She's inescapable. She's inevitable. It makes sense the Toymaker, a creature of eternal play, would stay away from the embodiment of Ending.
Not to mention rtd is clearly still going with exploring the Doctor's past and Death is tied to at least one version of the Doctor's origin
Between the duo in Can You Hear Me, Time in Flux, and the Toymaker in The Giggle, the show has been inching back towards eternals and godlike creatures.
Wouldn't it be cool if Death was next?

if i won’t have lost the special interest by the time i’m back at uni and i’d have seen most of classic by then i want to write an academic paper on gender in doctor who. because there is SO MUCH to say about it. thinking about missy’s lampshading of the companion-as-gender in world enough and time. companion is a de facto gender, right? and the doctor is a gender. thirteen is not more feminine than ten or eleven, in fact, she’s emotionally distant and harsh in highly masculine-coded ways and the doctor will always find themselves taking on the masculine role re: the narrative, no matter what gender the actor that’s playing them is. of course amy pond as the ur-example of the companion without agency, treated by the story as a vessel and an object to pass between husband and doctor. then there’s subversion (ace, bill) and deconstruction (clara). martha’s character being simplified in the public consciousness as ten’s tragic rebound, ignoring her doctorification arc. doctorification itself as a transition of sorts. time lords’ gender-fluidity contrasted with their culture’s rigid social norms. cybermen and daleks turning themselves genderless as a marker of dystopian uniformity. the role of river song. rose noble and her magical mystery metacrisis transgenderism. charley sneaking onto the R101 dressed as a boy. ace dressing gwendoline in a man’s costume in ghost light as a symbol of evolution
i swear it could go on forever . i bet when i’ve watched the rest of classic the list of examples would be twice as long, the earlier you look

Out of curiosity with the previous reblog. Before answering please know that harassment is continuously receiving unwanted and hostile dms or comments/reblogs on your account. It isn't people being somewhat rude. Or someone you don't like commenting on your posts in a neutral way. But anyways,
Also if you have received any harassment and have evidence of it but are scared to get your story out there feel free to send on an anonomous ask with screenshots.

whenever i'm facing writer's block, i re-open the fic that is the easiest for me to write without thinking, which is my would-be-about-as-historically-accurate-as-it-could-get-if-it-weren't-omegaverse oregon trail PWP AU (normal), and instead of posting anything, i just keep adding more pretending there isn't a john mulaney-coded voice in my head saying "...could be a series"

This blog is about my service dog and my health but sometimes things are TMI and I try not to post that kind of stuff. So long story short, I had a really awful experience at the OBGYN recently with a Dr who completely blew off my questions and concerns. Rather than accept that at face value, I found a different Womens Health Center with better reviews and made an appointment with a nurse practitioner.
I just got out of my appointment today and I couldn’t be happier. She and her team took me very seriously. They were completely bewildered by my issue and have never seen anything like it but they are totally invested in helping me get answers even if they don’t know. I have an ultrasound next week and the nurse practitioner said she would be waiting outside the door and would go over the results with me immediately so I didn’t have to wait. She also said that even if everything comes back normal they’ll continue doing research and testing to help me find the answers I need.
Just because a person goes to medical school and becomes a doctor doesn’t mean they get to have the final say in your healthcare. If you feel like something is wrong don’t be afraid to pushback. It takes a lot of extra effort and can be traumatizing at times but no one knows your body better than you do.

I actually don't see the lifespan thing as a huge issue though. Sure, it means their time together will be limited from the Doctor's perspective, but that's also the case with every other relationship they have with humans? As a Time Lord surrounded by shorter lived species, it's just a fact that they will outlive almost everyone they love. idk why it would be more of an issue here than with their friendships or surrogate family relationships?
Also it's a bit weird to me that people act like only, say, Romana or maybe River could be the Doctor's equal because plenty of the other companions are 1. adults 2. perfectly capable of holding their own against the Doctor.

reminder that its fine to both enjoy a doctor who episode but still be critical of it, you don't need to defend it to make yourself feel like its okay to like it, you can enjoy an episode and still be like "yeah, this is bad, they should do better"

i hope ruby gets a well-that’s-alright-then-style notdeath. on the one hand it will make haters mad because oh no not another companion with an impermanent end (and i like to see haters mad) on the other it would require creativity to depict this in a new way + i love all the implications i love the dark fairytale quality of these companion exits i love my un-undead schrodinger’s women

with the way the legend of ruby sunday is titled… legends aren’t usually told about living people. legends are stories of the bygone past, of an age long since over, fictionalised and overgrown with folklore like barnacles sticking to an abandoned shell. there is such a thing as a living legend, but they’re exceedingly rare. the unmistakeable raven’s call in the 73 yards teaser, the trailer’s cut to fifteen crying alone after promising to cherry he’d protect her daughter… the foreshadowing is clear as day…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and yet. there’s one massive HOWEVER. ruby appears in s15: millie’s been spotted on set filming it. which leads me to believe — the doctor isn’t one to take the time travel route and revisit companions that in his future are genuinely dead. that would hurt too much, it would cause unnecessary trauma and could break the timeline. that must mean ruby stays alive in some way. ish. she’s alive and a legend and a mystery. girl-ballad girl-song girl-paradox

here she is, fading out.
p.s.: thesis statement on moffatgirls from the tags i left on somebody else’s post about charley pollard.. well it belongs here since it’s basically the semiotic hurricane swirling around ruby at the moment :)

#on a personal level what interests me about these characters is precisely what gets them labeled as being subject to#misogynistic writing by pop-feminist video-essayists. as an autistic girl* (*ish) however; i find female characters that#aren’t quite ‘normal people’; women who represent an idea or concept or are a puzzle to be solved or a manic pixie dream girl to be#more and in a way far more interesting than a girl-next-door-type universally relatable protagonist#they make for more nuanced stories with more symbolism and more layers of interpretation usually. why should there be realism in a#fantastical narrative? similarly i like characters that are haunting the narrative or dead before it began (big locked tomb fan if you#didn’t know) and like. not to be tvtropes but the lost lenore archetype. dead woman who spurs the hero on to recklessness or revenge.#i identify with that dead girl. the laura palmers of the world. set the story in motion without#necessarily having agency. maybe it’s something to do with my#constant background radiation of passive suicidality. in a fun whimsical way :) i would never kill myself but i don’t want to be a real#person. i want to be objectified but not necessarily in a k*nky s*xual way (that too) in a princess in a tower way#the ultimate femme fantasy innit? there’s something about it. hashtag problematic hashtag conforming to gender roles#10000 tags be upon ye#ruby sunday#millie gibson#doctor who#dw#steven moffat#clara oswald#fifteen#fifteenth doctor#twelveclara#amy pond#charley pollard#river song#donna noble#ncuti gatwa#doctor who meta#jamie.txt#haunting
