A new audio drama summarized as “Original comedic versions of the 1930s radio show Flash Gordon.” Fans of comedy science fiction, Flash Gordon Mel Brooks and Monty Python will likely enjoy this show. At the heart of my desire to create this zine is the idea in fandom theory that, for many women and girls especially, fandom is a “sacred space” where they can experience levity from their otherwise marginalized place in society.  The title of this zine–“swiftieism”–is a tongue-in-cheek take on this idea and the way many of us idolize Taylor to the point of religious worship.  The Swiftie fandom is incredibly diverse, and our greatest strengths are our unabashed emotion and passion.  We all love Taylor, but I want to hear about you and your specific relationship to her.  The more personal, niche, introspective, melodramatic, conflicting, or silly, the better.  The zine will be available as a free digital download and a paid physical copy (hopefully in June 2024).

If these guidelines seem pretty vague, it’s because I’ve intentionally made them so.  This zine is about me and my experience and taste as a fan, but it’s also about all of you.  All of us.  Submission criteria is subject to change a little since it’s my first time making a zine with the intent of distribution.  Watch me learn (and probably lose my mind) in real time!

After his first encounter with the Upside Down, Steve needs something to help him relax. He gets more than he expects from drug dealer Eddie Munson, who pulls him into a world of gentle care, good feelings, and calm that he's never experienced before.

It’s two weeks after- after , and Steve can’t fucking sleep. His face is healing up well enough, most of the cuts and scrapes are healed over - aside from the one on his lip that keeps breaking open because he can’t stop fucking messing with it - but that’s not what’s affecting his sleeping issue. 

The real problem is that every time he closes his eyes, he sees the flashing lights, hears the otherworldly roars of that fucking thing . He thinks about Barb being snatched from his yard, a mere thirty second walk from where he sleeps. It’s starting to affect him in a bad way, he needs to rest , but after so many nights of lying in bed, staring at the ceiling and jumping at every shadow and noise, it seems like getting there on his own is going to be impossible. 

And then, he thinks about Eddie Munson. Thinks about the easy relief Eddie had provided him with during the midst of everything, and knows that he needs it again.

Just like the donut, it should be so sweet it sickens you. What kind of craving hurts? Teeth that have gluttonous cavities or ones that are too sharp for kissing? What is so good one would walk on glass to get and What is so awful and pitiable and foul you can't help but write it love letters. Perhaps, though, it is just sweet and soft - though this too can be painful, even disgusting. What is love but to devour, what is an embrace but teeth tongue to eat you whole.

The run off of dying giants, sweat from celestial bodies, biles of Scorpius, Cygnus and Draco. The distillate of long dead lights that still make wishes come true. What comes from the cold beauty in ones life, what planet drips down onto you. What is rain but the tears of heaven. What comes to mind at night and the wee hours of the morning? We wish to see the art and stories of our cosmonauts and angels for this theme.

Deadline: May 31st

The submission deadline for 'Honey Crueler' is still April 30th! but this will be the theme of the next issue and we encourage you to submit to either or both. We hope this does not confuse anyone- we are creating a backlog of issues to publish so that neither us nor our submitters have to rush to complete their pieces and get everything read, edited and printed.

At the end of this month (April 30th) we will announce the artists accepted for Honey Crueler - so stay tuned
