Sirius has a suspicion. It nibbles on him when some Hogwarts graduate fucks him in the loos of the Three Broomsticks (and keeps owling him love letters for four months afterwards, to the loud jeers of his friends at the Gryffindor table). It becomes a bit more insistent when he makes Noor Patil come between classes, and James picks her long hair off of his robes. It nearly overwhelms him when Bilius Weasley kisses him at a Party and Sirius just goes with it. It makes breathing hard when Remus confesses an infatuation and Sirius gets him off for several months. The suspicion is that this in an unhealthy coping technique. Fucking random people is not really the best way to get over his uncontested crush on James. Not that the word crush comes anywhere close to describing the absolute behemoth of feelings Sirius has for his best friend. What Sirius does know is that he is not ready to confront James with any of that. This is his problem to take care of. And he does. "So, who is it this week?" James asks accusitory when he spots the purpling hickey on Sirius' throat. Sirius shrugs and pulls over his robes. It was Diane Scamander this week, though Bilius had come to Hogsmeade to see him, so she won't be the only one. "You've become quite the slag, Padfoot," James continues. There is something in his voice that tells Sirius that this won't be the end of it. "Why haven't you done it with me yet?" And there we go, Sirius thinks, while surpressing a groan. "I wasn't aware you're offering." Even to his own ears Sirius sounds desperate with that reply. James shoots him a look that is somewhere between heated and unsure. "Well, I am. But if you prefer Noor, or Bilius over me, I won't press." James very casually lifts his arms over his head and flexes. But not even that can stop Sirius from acknowledging what a dirty lie that was. As if James had ever not pressed on a matter after setting his mind to it. "We'll see," Sirius replies, and exits the dorm. Looks like his slag days are counted.

If you're complaining about Kamala potentially becoming a mutant with the Noor powers....why?

I understand that Kamala becoming a mutant may make her feature as a background character in x-men storylines...while shes always front and centre as an inhuman. So that's a good point. But it's also not a huge deal if she gets a solo run because her storylines focus on herself and her family and friends a lot of the time.

I don't see her powerset changing completely. The embiggen powers work well in a comic book medium and doesn't in live action. If they add some of the purple light..... it's not a big deal.

I feel her fans have reached the point where they're just complaining about everything bc people constantly bait since the MCU show. MCU!Kamala is the best version of Kamala anyway.

A review of the “Far Cry Timeline”

I realized that there was a page dedicated to the series’ timeline on the Far Cry Wiki, so I decided to review it because… I just couldn’t help myself.

GREEN: Correct information and date.

BLUE: Probably correct but needs to be confirmed.

PINK: Correct information but wrong date (see this post).

ORANGE: Pure fan speculation (date and/or information).

RED: Incorrect information and/or date.

PURPLE: Far Cry and Far Cry 2 lore. I haven’t played these games yet so I can’t tell if the information is accurate.

c.10,000 BCE

Three tribes, the Wenja, Udam, and Izila settle in the region of present-day Central Europe known as Oros, sparking conflict for resources and territory. The events of Far Cry Primal occur, culminating in the Udam, the last Neanderthals, going extinct soon after.

500 BCE

The Chal Jama Monastery is built in Kyrat.

15th century

In the 15th century, the Chinese navigator and explorer Zheng He passed by the Rook Islands during a voyage to map the oceans. It was an ideal location for one of Zheng He's most trusted soldiers, Lin Cong. After Zheng He left the isles, Lin Cong stole one of Zheng He's colossal treasure ships named "the Chaoyang" (containing massive amounts of gold and treasure that were collected during Zheng He's many ocean voyages).

Lin Cong and his Chinese invaders ruled over Rook Islands where the natives suffered under their tyrannical reign.

Rook Islands were free from them when the Rakyat rebelled and a vengeful Zheng He returned to stop Lin Cong treachery. Lin Cong died and his faction was destroyed.

The Silver Dragon was buried with Lin Cong body in his entrapped and dragon-infested tomb.

The Shanath Arena is built in Southern Kyrat.

Lieutenant Robert F. Barclay of the British Army set sail to Kyrat.

Pagan Min found the last Kyrat royal heir for Mohan

Pagan Min and Yuma Lau sided with the Royalists at first but later that year betrayed them when his Mercenaries and the Royalists seized the Royal Palace and Pagan killed the royal heir, and took his place as King of Kyrat. He then turned his mercenaries on Mohan’s men before they could know they were in danger killing many. Leaving Mohan to escape with just a handful of survivors.

First Kyrati Civil War ended in Kyrat with Nationalists defeated, Royalists purged, last royal heir assassinated and Pagan Min became the new self proclaimed king.

Golden Path is founded

Second Kyrati Civil War begins.

Sometime in the latter half of 2008, the events of Far Cry 2 take place.

Guy Marvel tells people about his ideas for zombie movies. The events of Dead Living Zombies takes place.

2012

Four people, Leonard, Mikhail, Callum, and Tisha get scammed out of their money by Vaas' pirates while working to redeem themselves on a cruise ship. They soon turned against the pirates.

Six months later, a group of young adults parachute onto the Rook Islands by mistake and many get captured. Jason Brody helps the locals lead a revolution against Vaas' Pirates, free his friends, and deal with a slave trader named Hoyt Volker. The events of Far Cry 3 (including all DLC missions) take place.

2014

Ajay Ghale goes to Kyrat to spread his mother’s ashes and while visiting either stayed with Pagan Min or ends up helping the locals lead a rebellion against him. In the latter case, the country doesn’t improve much after the government is overthrown. The events of Far Cry 4 (including The Syringe Mission, Escape from Durgesh Prison and Hurk's Redemption) take place.

Yuma Lau sends an Expedition made of Royal Guard forces, lead by Colonel Sandesh to a Kyrat Valley looking for a relic that could cause immortality, but don't return to Kyrat.

Darpan dies in all cases.

Antón Castillo is elected as El Presidente of Yara, promising to "Rebuild Paradise."

Alternate universe, movie, or non-canon events

Ajay’s helicopter crashes in the Himalayas, he later gets involved with a cult group known as the Disciples (the Royal Guard forces Yuma sent to the Valley) and a unique relic.

2018

Alternate universe or non-canon events:

Carmina Rye is born the same day or few days before the Collapse.

A group of police officers attempt to arrest Project at Eden's Gate leader Joseph Seed, they either spared him and left early, or actually arrested him and got overwhelmed by his cult. In the latter case, after most are captured, The Junior Deputy helps the locals lead The Resistance against the doomsday cult and take back Hope County. The events of Far Cry 5 take place.

After the 'Resist' ending of Far Cry 5, the world suffers a nuclear war, known to some as the Collapse (however, with the release of Far Cry 6 which apparently takes places in a contemporary setting, the Collapse might prove to be an alternative timeline, no longer followed by the next game.)

In two other endings where they do not arrest Joseph at the beginning or at the end, it's unclear what exactly happened.

In Guy Marvel's epic sci-fi film, Nick Rye and Hurk get sent to Mars to deal with the threat of an invasion. The events of Lost On Mars take place.

2021

Dani Rojas has a conversation with their friends Lita Torres and Alejo Ruiz on the rooftops of Esperanza. A blackout takes place as Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa soldiers pour into the city block. Alejo insults Antón Castillo and throws a can at a soldier, resulting in said soldier murdering him. Dani and Lita escape to a boat heading out of the country. A young boy attempts to board but is denied until Dani vouches for him. Before the ship can sail off, Antón catches it in an attempt to retrieve his son, Diego; the young boy attempting to flee. Antón then orders his soldiers to execute everybody else on the ship. Dani just barely survives, and wakes up to Lita dying on the beach. She gives Dani her phone and asks them to seek out the revolutionary group she was affiliated with, Libertad. Dani obliges to honor their fallen friends. The events of Far Cry 6 take place during October.

2022

Alternate universe, movie, or non-canon events:

Three months after Dani Rojas sails away from Yara, they rest on a Miami beach and listen to the radio. The death of Clara Garcia at the hands of Antón Castillo's special forces has snuffed out the revolution in Yara.

2035

In the 'Resist' ending of Far Cry 5, the world suffered a nuclear war known as the Collapse. 17 years after the nuclear war the Highwaymen terrorize the citizens of Prosperity. The locals and the remnants of Project at Eden’s Gate, New Eden, fight back against the Highwaymen’s leaders, Mickey and Lou. The events of Far Cry New Dawn take place.

How to save your brain from being eaten by AI (maybe): keep a sketchbook

At the beginning of May I started bookmarking photographers who are using AI in interesting ways, to add to my Instagram collection of digital art references (#artdirectionneversleeps). Later that month I did my own first experiments using NightCafe to visualise ideas for a client. It was entertaining and frustrating, partly because of my lack of prompt skills, and partly because the "styles" you could apply to your "artwork" looked exactly like bad fantasy art from the 1980s.

However, by June, photographers I was working with were using Midjourney to conceptualise setups – still with a bit of that tacky SciFi book cover feel, but it was proving genuinely useful to talk about how sets might be designed, for instance. By July, I was seeing film directors use AI for pitching storyboards, and my lovely students at Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design using it for presentation mock-ups.

That's just three months. From AI being a "what?" to becoming a completely logical, natural part of the image-making process, for at least some parts of the creative industries. The speed of change is head-spinning. And this is just the beginning.

Meanwhile, also in May, I was teaching at CNC on a really fun module about Brand Identity Design. Part of this involved the students keeping a sketchbook, to explore and develop their ideas. One of my lectures was about WHY people keep sketchbooks, and I illustrated several points with quotes from designers, architects and artists, and pages from my own sketchbooks from waaaaay back in the day.

Because WBITD, when I was an art student, I kept sketchbooks constantly. Not only was it a course requirement, for me it was also a way to stave off boredom and depression: it's hard to think negative thoughts when your brain is absorbed in analysing the curves of a hand or a coffee cup or a flower. When my best friend and I used to Interrail around Italy, I would draw our cafe tables and the local streets, and we'd get rewarded with extra drinks and desserts by kindly waiters.

Somewhere around the mid 90s I gave up sketching, partly because life got more hectic, and partly because smartphones got invented. When Emma and I started the BID course this summer, it had been a very long time indeed since I cracked open a sketchbook. And, erm, even though I did buy one – a lovely, spiral-bound, hard covered book with wonderful heavyweight paper, from Seawhite of Brighton – it took me another few months to start using it.

Two things pushed me into finally starting: firstly, it's #drawugst and I thought I should try a drawing a day, every day, during August. I started on Tuesday, August 1st, with a graphite pencil sketch of my aloe plant. I did it in semi-darkness, around 9pm, and my hand-eye coordination felt a but rusty, but following the heavy curves of the plant was satisfying.

On Wednesday I drew fallen agapanthus blossoms, playing with coloured marker pens (of which I have a ridiculously huge collection, almost never used). This was a reminder of the importance of not trying to control the end result while you're sketching. Because you just can't.

Yesterday evening I scribbled our messy after-dinner table. I used the graphite pencil, a Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth charcoal pencil, and an Edding 1225 calligraphy pen – and blackberries. The fruit, not the redundant communication device. Blackberry juice is a fabulous art material – it gives this beautiful purple inky result, and it's such a pleasure to smear all over the paper. I'd picked the berries earlier this evening on Wormwood Scrubs, just to add to the satisfaction of the whole experience. (And this morning I made almond milk smoothies with the rest of them.)

The other thing which made me finally restart a sketchbook after all this time is AI. I can see that it is just going to get bigger, more powerful, and more indispensable in my industry. I'm not going to worry about losing my job to a bot (I don't have "a job", anyhow), but I am concerned about what it will do to our creativity.

When you use one tool extensively it starts to train your brain, you develop habits and shortcuts. It's one thing to have tricks for making the most of Photoshop, or to have routines when you set up an InDesign document. But when you're trying to generate ideas you need to keep an open mind. To look at things from different angles. To look again, look harder. Try wacky ideas. Draw with your food. Stick things onto the pages. Doodle. Take a line for a walk. Write notes to self. Be creative. Be messy. Be human.

Okay, few points

1. Though I cannot speak for people from cultures clearly not my own, I did feel a deep sense of anger when the British soldier told the locals to “go home”. Like, excuse me sir, you’re the foreigner.

Moving on.

2. One other thing I liked is that across these five episodes now, Kamala has been receiving bits and pieces of clothing that would soon become her (or inspiration for her) eventual outfit. She received her mask from Bruno, her vest from Waleed, and now the scarf from Kareem. Not to mention the bangle she sorta kinda inherited from her great-grandmother, so there’s that one too.

3. CAN WE TALK ABOUT KAMRAN. No, hang on, can we talk about his mom first. Najma calls out her son’s name right before she turned to ash as she tried to close the Veil, right? Then there’s this little seconds-long sequence where you see strands of the Noor (Light) snake it’s way to Kamran, knocking him to the ground. The captions state “Energy pulsating”. Kamran’s eyes glow the same way Najma’s and Kamala’s eyes glow, except with him, it’s blue. We then see him look at his hand, and it’s the exact same kind of hard light that forms around his fist (same as Kamala’s), only it’s blue instead of purple. And this is kind of inherent to him the same way it was inherent to Najma, the same way it’s inherent to Aisha and therefore Kamala as well. Remember a few episodes ago Bruno said to Kamala, “It looks like your power is coming from within you. The bangle unlocked the superhuman part of you.” It was the same with Kamran. He has the EXACT SAME POWER SET as Kamala does now. Kamala has her power set because she’s a human hybrid (Aisha was clearly not of this world), and Kamran has his power set because like Aisha, Najma is clearly not of this world either. But while Kamala needed the bangle to unlock her inherent powers that she inherited, Kamran received these powers almost by accident, but his body is receptive to the powers because he too, is not of this world, courtesy of his mother Najma. So essentially, both Kamran and Kamala have powers that originate from the Noor Dimension, because they have the same (or similar) origin story. Their ancestors came from the same place, the Noor Dimension. This actually fits in so well with their similar comics origins because there, they were both exposed to the Terrigen mists and so in the comics they are Inhuman, but here, in the MCU, Kamran and Kamala are pseudo-Noorians, if such a word exists. They have a foot in both worlds. They are simultaneously of the Noor Dimension and of Earth.

3. Okay, about Kareem. At the very end, when Kamala bids goodbye to Kareem, yeah? This little conversation:

Kamala: You know, I'm pretty sure a Pakistani goodbye is the opposite of an Irish one. Overstay your welcome and then ask if you could take home food.

Kareem: I have to go tell the others what happened. I figured you could use some time with your family.

Kamala: Are you gonna be okay?

Kareem: Yeah. Yeah, I'll be fine. He'd be really proud of you.

Kamala: Thank you, by the way. For everything.

Kareem: You know, if you ever need anything, I'm just a call away. Although the U.S. government may or may not have several warrants out for my arrest, so…

Kamala: Wow. Well, I don't know how much more trouble I can get into after all this.

Kareem: Just in case. [The narration states, “He removes the red scarf from around his neck and drapes it over Kamala’s shoulder.”] For you. [The narration continues, “He walks away. Kamala eyes the fabric, then pulls it off her shoulder and holds it in both hands as she leans on the balcony railing, wearing a contemplative expression.”]

Why would the US government (well, the DODC but like) have arrest warrants out for Kareem, if what he says is true? He’s not the one with powers, and yet, YET when he first meets Kamala face to face in the station, he tells her point blank, “I sensed the Noor.” Does Kareem also have some sort of hidden ability? Would this, then, be why he suspects the DODC may target him? Also, if Kareem had sensed the light from within Kamala, it would mean that he’s sensed it a week earlier when Kamala first saw that vision during that AvengerCon. To be able to sense it, he must’ve been somewhere in the US as well, and maybe tracked her down all the way to Karachi. 🤔

Hey! I don’t know the comics super well - why is Iman so insistent that MCU isn’t Earth-616?

Honestly she's just messing with Kevin lol.

But initially the MCU was coined earth-199999 to differentiate it from earth-616 (which is main comics continuity). So she's saying that calling another universe earth-616 such as the mcu destroys the sanctity of the concept of 616. Also the mcu is different from 616 so calling it another number suggests that within the mcu there's a world somewhere in the multiverse where earth-616 exists and all the decades of comic history exists and the mcu characters could one day even visit that earth.

She's correct though. The mcu is special in its own way and main comics continuity is special in its way but both are VERY different from each other. So they should have different designations.

If you mean specific examples one is ofc Kamala is an inhuman with stretchy powers and she emerged from the terrigen cocoon in earth-616.

But in earth-199999 / mcu she's a djinn from the Noor dimension with super pretty purple light based powers. And she's a mutant.

Ooh I'd like to go to Rome and Venice and I would like to go away for a month or two. My photographer knows another photographer who decided to do a photo essay on an african reserve and loved being there so much he took time off his career to document and to help around in the reserve, I would like to do that too!

The purples and oranges when the sun sets and the sky slowly begins to darken, that's my absolute favorite!!

Ooh this might be my personal choice but I love love love! books with like gold detailing on them. on the other hand books that have paintings as their covers on them (like My year of rest and relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh or If an Egyptian cannot speak english by Noor Naga) are my absolute favorites!!
